HUBLOT Big Bang Ferrari California 30 Giappone Limited edition
Swiss watch brand HUBLOT has recently launched an exclusive Japan limited edition timepiece of “Big Bang Ferrari” at the occasion of the launch of the exclusive limited series of the “Ferrari California 30 Giappone” car. The “Big Bang Ferrari California 30 Giappone” is a limited edition model with just 100 timepieces available exclusively in Japan.
Partnership between Ferrari and Hublot has been highly successful, both commercially, with the Big Bang Ferrari watch series, and promotionally, with many events held all over the world. The Japan limited edition “Big Bang Ferrari California 30 Giappone” is inspired by Ferrari’s newly launched exclusive sports car “Ferrari California 30 Giappone”.
Both “Big Bang Ferrari California 30 Giappone” and “Ferrari California 30 Giappone” are launched together to celebrate 25th anniversary of legendary “Ferrari California”’s victory at Japan Grand Prix™. Both share common features such as white and red colors representing Japanese flag, and use of carbon fiber. Furthermore, detailed design of the new Big Bang Ferrari reveals a fundamental part of the brand DNA for both Hublot and Ferrari: sport, performance and technology.
For example, a cylindrical bezel which offers added depth to showcase the movement can be seen through the sapphire dial or an indexed crown and elongated push buttons fixed along a rotating axis like the pedals in a car, or carbon inserts on the case profile and interchangeable straps with a highly innovative quick change system, whose principle was inspired by a seat belt. And this timepiece comes with two straps, in white and red Schedoni leather stitched onto white rubber, providing a wearer with great flexibility, comfort and durability.
As for the dial, the legendary prancing horse is featured discreetly in relief at 9 o’clock. A minute counter is positioned at 3 o’clock (completed by a yellow date window), and the hand and the style of the indexes are inspired by the counters in a Ferrari, perfectly in line with the Italian manufacturer’s sport DNA whilst adhering to Hublot’s graphic codes.
The UNICO movement is designed, developed, machined and assembled by the micro-mechanical engineers, engineers and watchmakers at Hublot. The movement boasts a practical flyback chronograph which can be reset at any time, and which is unique in the watchmaking industry, two push-buttons, with date indicator, and featuring a uniquely positioned mechanism with dual coupling and the famous “column wheel” visible on the dial side.
Its development required a completely original approach and thinking outside the box: For example, the hour counter is driven directly by the barrel, and there is no jumper in the chronograph mechanism. This simplification boosts reliability and robustness. Its pallet fork and escapement wheel are fixed to a removable platform and are made from silicon, whose lightness provides a guarantee of performance. Its construction, which incorporates just 330 components, has been simplified as much as possible in order to further increase robustness.
This result is the fruit of continual adjustments made since 2009, the year it was launched, which have been carried out jointly by the technical office, the laboratory and the after-sales service in the manufacture. Its frequency of 4hz/28,800 vibrations per hour and its immaculate finish are also a guarantee of high chronometric quality. Finally, its automated production, which includes automation of the machining, stone fitting, oiling and numerous assembly operations, also ensures consistent, controlled quality. Its power reserve is around 72 hours.
