OMEGA New Speedmaster Moonwatch with a Lacquered White Dial

Swiss luxury watchmaker OMEGA has launched a new lacquered white dial version of one of the most iconic chronographs ever made, the Speedmaster Moonwatch.

OMEGA New Speedmaster Moonwatch with a Lacquered White Dial

This new version was spotted for the first time in November 2023, on the wrist of OMEGA brand ambassador, Daniel Craig, at the Planet OMEGA Exhibition in New York. Now, the design is finally and officially revealed, and will be available for public sale.

The watch’s most distinctive feature is its rare white dial. When the original Speedmaster was first created in 1957, one of the main goals of the designers was to produce an easy-to-read display with superb legibility. So they designed a black dial with contrasting white hands and indexes.

Boasting an opposite colour theme (white dial with black detailing and new applied indexes), the new Moonwatch maintains an excellent dial visibility just like its ancestor. In this new model, Omega has also added a Speedmaster name in red. Moreover, it is the first ever Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional step dial version with a white glossy lacquered finish.

The new Speedmaster Moonwatch stainless steel model’s dial is a nod to the white and black colours of astronaut spacesuits. In addition, red lines have also featured on the suits since Apollo 13 in 1970 to signify the commander’s rank.

With the new white dial version of Speedmaster Moonwatch, the brand is also paying tribute to a revolutionary timepiece. In 1969, OMEGA created the ALASKA I prototype as part of their secret NASA project to design the perfect space watch. After months of experiments, OMEGA chose a white dial because it provides a particularly effective thermal reflection coefficient. The red Speedmaster name on the new model is also a nod to the protective red case that surrounded the original ALASKA I watch.

The black anodized aluminium bezel boasts a famous “Dot over Ninety” on the tachymeter scale. The watch is driven by the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861, a manual-winding chronograph movement with Co-Axial escapement.

Dressed in a 42 mm diameter case, this new Speedmaster Moonwatch comes with a comfortable and vintage-inspired stainless steel bracelet with five arched links per row. This bracelet offers a classic look with polished and brushed detailing.
