Leitners Ad Maiora – The Hybrid Smartwatch

Leitners, the Czech-German watch brand founded by a team of watch enthusiasts has recently launched its Ad Maiora Hybrid Smartwatch on the popular online crowd-funding website Kickstarter. This new generation wristwatch combines traditional horology and wearable technology.

Founded in 2019, the brand aims to create handcrafted classic watches enriched by smart functions, so no one ever would have to wear automatic watches on one hand and a smart band on the other anymore. It is a German-based company with an R&D team in Brno (Czech Republic), the IT and cultural hub of Central Europe.

Ad Maiora is an automatic watch integrated with a number of superb smart functions suitable for day-to-day life. The engine that drives the mechanical part of this timepiece is the MIYOTA 9039 self-winding calibre. An integrated circuit with full-dial e-ink display looks after the smart-watch functionality. The Operating System of the smart-watch was developed by the engineers of Leitners.

With its smart technology, the Ad Maiora watch can be paired with your phone via Bluetooth. While the mechanical movement indicates the time in the classic three hands configuration, its full-dial E-Ink display provides the functions like Always on Time & date, chronograph, world-timer, alarms, smart notifications, message review and time management tool.

The well-arranged icons and the smart interface ensure high visibility of the indications. Powered with a state-of-the art electronic circuit, the watch also offers smart-functions like Activity tracking, heart rate monitoring, GPS tracking and barometer, Sleep monitoring, music control and camera control.

Ad Maiora maintains a classic wrist-watch aesthetic rather than going after the typical smart-watch designs. The watch case is made with 316L stainless steel. Despite housing two different technologies, the watch maintains a size of a classic dress watch. Its case measures 42mm diameter and 12.6mm thickness. Lug to lug length is 47mm and lug width is 22mm. The watch is topped with a sapphire crystal glass.

It is a versatile and extremely durable watch with a water resistance of 100 meters, so that the wearer can utilise it during the adventurous and outdoor sports activities. To cancel out the negative magnetic effects between the mechanical and electronic modules, the company has incorporated an anti-magnetic shield system.

The MIYOTA 9039 self-winding movement features 24 jewels and beats at 28 800 vibrations per hour. It provides timekeeping with an accuracy of -10～＋30 sec per day. Visible through the transparent case back, this mechanical calibre also features stop second device.

Further, it can be energized by both automatic and hand winding methods. Once it fully wound, it provides autonomy of 42 hours. In the smart-watch section, the battery provides autonomy of one week on full charge. The Ad Maiora watch will be provided with a USB charger.

The indexes, hour hand and minute hand are embedded with Super-LumiNova for ensuring the night time readability of the analogue display. The Ad Maiora watch features a rotating bezel to browse through menu of the smart watch functions. Its chronograph pusher styled buttons can be used for select/back or contextual functions. The crown at 3 o’ clock is connected to the automatic movement for time-setting and winding.

The watch is available in two design options. In the first option, the watch features smooth sand-blasted bezel and crown. In the second version, it features coin-edged bezel and crowns. When it comes to case finishing, two options are available: Stainless steel with raw finishing or black coated stainless steel. The Ad Maiora will be supplied with a metal bracelet or HIRSCH Performance leather strap or rubber straps.

On 04th November 2020, Leitners launched a Kickstarter campaign to promote the Ad Maiora watch collection. This campaign will be online until 04 December 2020. Pledges starts at €469 or US$ 553. Post successful campaign, the company offers an estimated delivery of the product in August 2021.
