NOMOS Glashütte – Metro 38 Datum & Metro 38 Datum Urban Black

NOMOS Glashütte welcomes two new models – Metro 38 Datum and Metro 38 Datum urban black – to its Metro family of watch collections. The new Metro versions may not have a power reserve indicator, but do have the sensational NOMOS swing system.

The white silver-plated dial of Metro 38 Datum with delicate minute indexes and the extra-large date indicator appear considered and modern, while the blue hour indexes at three, nine, and twelve create a beautiful contrast to the red seconds hand.

Metro 38 Datum urban black is the second addition to the Metro series. The dark gray, almost black dial under the curved sapphire crystal glass presents the cosmopolitan watch in an entirely new way: more masculine, and exceptionally elegant. Particularly special: Both watch models also tick with swing, the NOMOS in-house escapement.

This essential pace-setting component, which is decisive for the accuracy, robustness, and durability of a watch, can only be produced by a very small number of watchmaking companies. Since spring last year, NOMOS Glashütte is one of them, and has even man- aged to produce the part in series, which makes it independent from third-party supplies.

The fine hand-wound caliber clearly visible through the sapphire crystal glass back is DUW 4101. With its introduction, hand-wound NOMOS movements with a date indicator will now also be equipped with swing.

The new dials were created by Mark Braun, the Berlin-based designer behind Metro. Only introduced at Baselworld 2014, NOMOS Glashütte has already received the German Design Award, the Good Design Award, the iF Product Design Award as well as the Goldene Unruh for this already bestselling model. As time-consuming as designing the dials was, finding the right case size was almost more so. Various prototypes had to be produced, and lugs, back, and heights adjusted accordingly, in order to find the perfect proportions.

Metro 38 Datum and Metro 38 Datum urban black are available with retailers from summer.
