NOMOS Glashütte Minimatik

German watch manufacture NOMOS Glashütte presents Minimatik, an ultra thin ladies’ automatic watch equipped with the new automatic NOMOS caliber DUW 3001 an in house developed movement from the Glashütte based watchmaking company.

The new automatic NOMOS caliber DUW 3001 is only 3.2 millimetres tall—and Minimatik, one of the first two models featuring this new NOMOS motor, is similarly slender. This classic women’s watch stands out from the crowd of usual feminine watches. The flat case appears to float, thanks to its skillful design. Tripartite, intricately constructed, it appears both refined and reserved.

With its curved sapphire crystal glass, its elegant form, and contoured lines, this new watch is not only decidedly attractive, but also comfortable on the wrist. DUW 3001, the new automatic movement, is extremely thin and accurate. It houses swing, the much-praised and highly precise in-house escapement from NOMOS Glashütte.

The sub-seconds dial sits harmoniously and well-proportioned between six o’clock and the hands’ center, while the hands point toward the appealing typography.  Excellent legibility is also guaranteed—and cheerfulness built in. For all elegance and restraint aside, Minimatik is a little cheeky too: The hands are lacquered a strong Bordeaux red, while the numerals shine in ink blue. A cheery and yet traditional combination, also reflected in the minute markers, and made a touch more elegant with golden hour indexes.

Despite its cheerfulness, the golden hour indexes reveal themselves as intricate pearling. With its complex surface contouring the refined case catches the light beautifully, reflecting the world with brilliance.

The case design was created by Studio Hannes Wettstein—notably by Simon Husslein, who was also the creative force behind the cases for Lambda and Lux. And the dial experts at NOMOS’ in-house creative agency Berlinerblau were responsible for the timepiece’s face; primarily Thomas Höhnel, who incidentally also designed Ahoi.

Minimatik will be arriving with retailers in fall 2015.
