de Grisogono – New Retro Double Jeu & New Retro Power Reserve

de Grisogono presents two new models from its New Retro line of timepieces: New Retro Double Jeu & New Retro Power Reserve.

de Grisogono New Retro Double Jeu
The first timepiece, the New Retro Double Jeu, is a playful model that diverts the primary purpose of the oscillating weight. The watch is in fact driven by a quartz movement. While the dial provides a dual display – in a rectangular sapphire format and in a circular format – either flinqué or snowset, held by four rhodium-plated anthracite bridges –, the gaze is drawn to the profile-turned outlines of a half-moon oscillating weight. With each flick of the wrist, and when the oscillating weight has performed one rotation, the dial suddenly springs to life.

On either side of the dial, the stylised 3 and 9 o’clock Arabic numerals set with 82 diamonds pivot to reveal different colours on the front and back: brown and white diamonds for the pink gold model; and white and black diamonds for white gold. The New Retro Double Jeu comes in a choice of white or pink gold, with its rectangular case either framed by a 1.3-carat row of diamonds, or entirely set with diamonds totalling 4.3 carats.

de Grisogono New Retro Power Reserve
Featuring a power reserve display, the New Retro is elegantly and soberly paired with a skeleton hand-wound mechanical movement specifically developed to equip its rectangular case. The sophisticated mechanism of the watch can be admired through the open-working, held by stylised anthracite rhodium-plated bridges with a structure subtly reminiscent of the radiator grilles on vintage cars.

From the circular satin-brushed gear train to the sunburst ratchet wheel and the sandblasted mainplate and bridges, ultimate refinement is visible in each and every detail. The New Retro Power Reserve reveals its 48-hour power-reserve gauge at 12 o’clock. Available in pink or white gold versions fitted with an alligator leather strap.

de GRISOGONO LUNA

Swiss Jewellery and watch making house de GRISOGONO presents LUNA, a new collection of ladies’ watches. This feminine jewellery watch embodies the quintessential skills cultivated by de GRISOGONO. From the first sketch to the final polishing operation on these timepieces graced with heavenly curves, de GRISOGONO reveals the secrets of its ateliers.

Volume, asymmetry and harmony are the keynotes of an extraordinary jewellery watch. More than six months dedicated to researching the perfect shape, curve, purity and balance for the watch. From first sketch to the wax model, from 3D modelling to the mock-up, along with gold casting, gemsetting and polishing: the very heart of this timepiece turned jewellery piece  relies on a clever blend of harmoniously balanced dimensions and asymmetrical effects.

None of the lines are straight in this creation that is instead all about rounded curves. A cambered and bevelled bezel, a domed dial, along with half-moon outlines, all contribute to an atypical timepiece conceived as a piece of jewellery.

Guided by the concise yet precise instructions provided by Fawaz Gruosi, 2D sketches and gouache paintings take shape beneath the deft pencil strokes of the in-house designers. The contours of the watch are then given specific measurements and degrees of curvature under the expert supervision of the engineers in the R&D department, taking into consideration the technical constraints relating to the making of such a model. In this original tandem between watchmaking and jewellery, the jewellery artisans have also sculpted the model by creating a wax prototype and shaping the supple material so as to achieve the closest possible resemblance with the initial design. The hand-crafted wax model, along with 3D modelling, then serve to fine-tune the shape of the watch and endow it with perfect proportions. Within this generous and audacious process, even the slightest change in its measurements means rethinking the entire piece. In this instance, the supreme quest for the most appealing possible shape involved more than 20 intermediate wax model stages. Before the watch is crafted in the noble and precious medium of gold, a last brass model is then produced and used to make the final necessary adjustments.

After selecting all the gems that will serve to adorn the watch, the lapidary sizes and adjusts the stones in step with the advancement of the setting work. The gemsetter follows a setting plan spread out in front of him and based on the mock-up in order to show the various positions of the stones. His talent and his ingenuity enable him to highlight the beauty of each gem. Beneath his skilled fingers, the metal gradually vanishes, giving pride of place to the radiant precious stones.

Shade by shade, one diameterafter another, his keen eye peering intently through the microscope alternates between traditional, bezel and ‘wild’ settings – the latter being a distinctive in-house de GRISOGONO technique. The case of the watch is adorned with a traditional setting and a random bezel setting, while the dial features the signature ‘wild’ setting.

A generous 4.7mm-diameter diamond sparkles exultantly on the workbench. The gemsetter carefully places it at 6 o’clock. The stones rimming the bezel accentuate the curve of the bezel gracefully hugging the shape of the model. This complex rail setting is distinguished by baguette-cut gems set almost vertically due to the extreme rounding of the upper section. For ‘wild’ setting, he cleverly combines more than 35 different stone diameters in a liberated technique that creates a truly unique composition.

de GRISOGONO ECCENTRICA

The ECCENTRICA,  de GRISOGONO ‘s newest collection of ladies’ watches radiate an aesthetic that instinctively creates a strong sense of belonging, freely interpreting – from dial to case, from lugs to crown, from stylised Arabic numerals to the galuchat strap – the distinctive signatures that have for more than 20 years reflected the emblematic de GRISOGONO style.

By deliberately creating a nonconformist design based on a set of nested circles with varying diameters and centres, Fawaz Gruosi has found the key to a perfectly balanced geometry. The result is an impetuous watch that proclaims its bold nature. Its name – ECCENTRICA – evokes its extravagant and original character, its resolutely contemporary architecture, its singular and extraordinary nature.

This elegant, self-confident, sensual and subtle creation vividly epitomises the multi-facetted, free-spirited de GRISOGONO woman. Its case is designed like an anthem to roundness, with a spellbinding depth effect created by the off-centred circles and the play on diamonds.

Its sparkling gem-set dial tells the story of time in a sweep of stylised Arabic numerals opulently laid out around a bevelled inner bezel ring. Its delicately asymmetrical architecture extends through to the lugs – like two arms in which the round case nestles gently, enhanced by the seductive cadence of dense gemsetting. Its crown adorned with a black diamond and its galuchat-dotted strap set the perfect finishing touches of elegance to a watch endowed with the inimitable identity codes of the Maison de GRISOGONO that naturally predestine it for success.

As is its custom, de GRISOGONO adopts an apparently simple approach in revisiting a traditional shape, transcended by the singular impetus and vision of Fawaz Gruosi.

de GRISOGONO New Retro Skeleton Tourbillon

In 2015, de GRISOGONO unveiled its new Retro collection after seven years of R&D, which included shaping a rectangular case graced with softly rounded angles and elegant, well-controlled curves. The result was a minimalist watch whose complexity stems from its construction, featuring a case composed of two cambered and perfectly matched sapphire crystals, elegantly united by a slender ribbon of gold. Now, the brand updates this collection by presenting a tourbillon model that pays tribute to the legendary complication in a daring and spectacular style.

The wide case houses a tourbillon bearing the de GRISOGONO signature. Symbolising the  philosophy driving Fawaz Gruosi since the creation of the Maison de GRISOGONO, the New Retro Skeleton Tourbillon admirably embodies this new take on watchmaking tradition: daring to create shapes that highlight functions, to develop original complications, to play with aesthetic codes in order to magnify the art of time measurement. Brilliantly escaping the bonds of existing conventions, de GRISOGONO has developed an exclusive movement with an original construction. As if suspended inside the case and held by majestic bridges with an architecture evoking the grilles of vintage cars, the tourbillon flaunts its free-spirited attitude at 3 o’clock. This skeletonised movement is elegantly framed by a sapphire crystal case offering a panoramic vision of time.

Without changing the case size or its cambered profile, the watchmakers have risen to the challenge of building a movement that is curved right the way through to its bridges. The carefully calculated proportions of this calibre, as well as the horizontal alignment of its components, have made it possible to create sufficient space inside the watch to accommodate the most elegant of horological complications: the tourbillon.

This in-line skeleton movement flaunts its non-conformist appearance and reveals its intricate inner workings in an oblong format smoothly embracing the case middle. At 3 o’clock, the heart of the movement – the balance-wheel, balance-spring and escapement – and its 83 components defy gravity.

The black rhodium-plated and gold decorated upper and lower bridges of the tourbillon carriage, holding the entire movement, are graced with alternating sandblasted and horizontal satin finishing. They feature hand-polished chamfers that called for more than 60 hours of work. The sunburst barrel with its open-worked scrolling motif, reveals tantalizing glimpses of its spring, while the ratchet wheel plays on the contrast between the sunburst swirls and a black lacquer coating.

A numbered movement issued in a 25-piece limited edition, housed in a pink or white gold case. The dG 31-88 calibre operates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour and has a 72-hour power reserve.

Water-resistant to 30 metres, the New Retro Skeleton Tourbillon is teamed with an alligator leather strap featuring large square scales and a saddle finish.

de GRISOGONO New Retro

With the new Retro Collection, de GRISOGONO once again demonstrates its skill at transposing the aesthetic principles and timeless elegance of the past into the present. A simple design made for modern-day individuals of taste and infused with a sense of broad panoramas evoking the chic style of the Fifties. This collection is entirely rooted in the idea that the whole concept of wearing a watch is similar to wearing a chic and timeless bespoke outfit. A piece that subtly combines vintage delights with modern touches.  The New Retro encapsulates values relating both to vision and tradition.

The clear, simple lines of its large, rectangular case – 12 mm thick, 50 mm wide and 44 mm long – are balanced with gently sensuous rounded angles. A minimalist, uncompromising design that soberly expresses time in a two-handed model. A black-lacquered gold crown, positioned at 12 o’clock, on which the de GRISOGONO coat of arms appears in shades of gold. An easily readable dial, adorned with a round counter and Arabic numerals in a new font developed by de GRISOGONO. Cut-outs at 3 and 9 o’clock create a transparent effect and the impression that both the dial and the movement are suspended in a glass cage. The two curved sapphire crystals are identical and subtly connected by a thin gold band. This was a veritable construction challenge overcome by de GRISOGONO.

Meticulously crafted right the way down to the finest details, this watch representing the ultimate in elegant timepieces is infinitely soft to the touch and radiates an extremely sensual smooth appearance. With this creation, de GRISOGONO succeeds in “squaring the circle” by revealing a new watch that bears within it all the wisdom of the passing of time, and which provides its own way of wearing time and history on the wrist. The New Retro fits perfectly into a minimalist ethos. Dressed in five different outfits, it remains true to the timeless spirit of the modern dandy. This tasteful watch with its impeccable clothes is also ideally suited to a more casual look. This is a truly versatile style that can be paired with all the mainstays of menswear, from chic dandy style to classically understated pieces, from a deliberately casual look to the most eccentric allure.

The refined aura of the New Retro imbues it with a strong feeling of kinship with the Fifties look, the ultimate expression of sartorial elegance and a style akin to that of the modern-day dandy. Meanwhile, the colour palette expresses classical dress sense through an off-white dial with creamy undertones and a deep house signature black tone. The most iconic version features an original and daring colour scheme in the form of subtly graded shades of green that convey the impression of a dial that has survived the passage of time. This unique hue strikes a powerful contrast with the super-LumiNova® markers featuring rich colour combinations that infuse the blue with a shimmering iridescence. These nuances are strongly reminiscent of Zellige, the famous enamel-covered terra cotta mosaic patterned tile work from the Mediterranean and Middle Eastern regions so dear to the creator of this watch. The result is a vintage-effect dial evoking the inimitable patina of time and giving the piece its strong, uncontrived character.

In order to achieve the accuracy of colour and the depth of nuance sought by its designer, the dial features a matt, sand-blasted finish. Its retro look is accentuated by the fact that it is reminiscent of the dials on old alarm clocks – made of light-coloured wallpaper with contrasting hour-markers that are extremely pronounced and readable – discoloured by time. A dial which also bears the chiaroscuro effect that is cherished by de GRISOGONO.

Powered by a black PVD-coated mechanical self-winding movement, the New Retro displays a highly elegant gold, open-worked oscillating weight reprising de GRISOGONO’S emblematic scrolling motif. Its impeccable style continues right down to the shape of its movement, whose mainplate has been incorporated into a base that is an identical reproduction of the shape of the watch. The New Retro’s large, elegant strap made of large square-scale alligator leather features a saddle-stitch finish.

de GRISOGONO INSTRUMENTO N°UNO TOURBILLON

Calling upon its avant-garde mind-set and daring expertise, de GRISOGONO has created a wristwatch equipped with a flying tourbillon featuring an inclined balance-staff. Acknowledged for its talent in the field of engineering and construction, de GRISOGONO presents a daring evolution of a technology developed by watchmakers of the past, such as Richard Daners.

Given that the position of a wristwatch frequently shifts between vertical and horizontal planes, the effect of the tourbillon is less pronounced, since the plat-pendu phenomenon lead to a loss in timekeeping performance in watches equipped with this device. To alleviate the problem of gravity’s influence on a wristwatch escapement independently of its direction, de GRISOGONO has gone beyond the traditional tourbillon to create a flying tourbillon fitted with a balance-staff inclined at a 30° angle.

The choice of the 30° slant was determined by both technical and aesthetic reasons. This optimal Inclination brings notable improvements and perfectly compensates for the variations in rate stemming from the plat-pendu phenomenon. The INSTRUMENTO N° UNO TOURBILLON is a time-measuring instrument ensuring stable rate in all positions.

The original design of the INSTRUMENTO N° UNO has been technically and aesthetically modified. de GRISOGONO has developed a totally innovative case with redesigned proportions reaching a generous volume of 59.2 mm x 33 mm x 14.99 mm, composed of a hybrid sapphire and precious metal structure and fitted with an original aperture at 6 o’clock revealing the off centred tourbillon.

A wealth of well-mastered details is on display beneath an elegant and daring three-dimensional sapphire lens. The architecture of the watch plays on transparency and allows the flying tourbillon with inclined balance-staff to work its visual magic. The INSTRUMENTO N° UNO TOURBILLON houses a rectangular-shaped movement in which the mechanical components and their aesthetic signatures are fully revealed through the see-through case. In a nod to the brand’s jewellery background, the spoke of the skeleton-worked oscillating weight is adorned with a diamond-shaped opening.

As far as the movement’s technical characteristics are concerned, it is equipped with a twin barrel and has a three-day (72-hour) power reserve. Its mainplate and bridges are skeleton-worked, graced with polished angles and clothed with a matt black PVD coating. Its 266 parts are accommodated within a total volume measuring 9.29 mm thick, 26.8 mm wide and 34 mm long. The tourbillon itself is composed of 62 parts weighing just 3.6 grams.

de GRISOGONO Crazy Skull

Launched this year, the de GRISOGONO “Crazy Skull” is a one-of-a-kind masterpiece that is the epitome of the art of watchmaking and jewellery. This exclusive bespoke art object takes the best of both worlds and admirably showcases de GRISOGONO’s dual expertise.

This superlative creation plays with the fleeting nature of life and perfectly embodies the de GRISOGONO spirit. The skull theme has been celebrated in contemporary art and fashion world for years. Often perceived as a provocative symbol, it also has positive and thoughtful meanings such as change, courage, bravery, non-conformity and free-thinking.

By proposing an endearing character, de GRISOGONO introduces an original and unique design. The talking piece asserts the brand’s audacity and excellence. Once again, by challenging the fundamentals of watchmaking and jewellery, by pushing boundaries and freeing himself of any constraints, Fawaz Gruosi demonstrates his ingenious and exuberant creativity; a non-traditional approach that speaks for itself.

Artfully designed and featuring rare and precious materials, “Crazy Skull” required almost a year of research and development and approximately 250 hours of intricate jewellery work in a subtle blend of know-how that lies within a close collaboration between skilled master watchmakers and top craftsmen such as gem-setters, goldsmiths, diamond-cutters and polishers.

This high-jewellery creation stands out for its sumptuous, eye-catching and playful style. By displaying time in an unconventional yet no less refined way, “Crazy Skull” perfectly embodies de GRISOGONO’s epicurean creativity.

More than 20 years after propelling the black diamond to the forefront of the international jewellery scene, Fawaz Gruosi once again glamourises this mysterious gem called carbonado by dressing it up in the mischievous form of its “Crazy Skull”. Since falling under its spell, he has heightened the appeal of the hitherto neglected black diamond, endowing it with the stature of a de GRISOGONO style signature and thereby opening the gateway to luxury for the stone he has always regarded as exceptional.

The “Crazy Skull” is also snow-set in white diamonds or rubies totalling approximately 23 carats and is embellished with a nose featuring a beautiful heart-cut white diamond of approximately 1.5 carats, which has been cut from a 3-carat square-cut raw stone.

As a tribute to the kinetic art, the passing of time elapses in dual time displays appearing through two magnetic eyes on which a spiraling setting of black and white diamonds subtly evokes movement.

Thanks to an intricate bespoke mechanism entirely devised and developed by the highly skilled de GRISOGONO master jewellers, the mouth is set with 7.70 carats of sparkling invisible-set white baguette-cut diamonds and mischievously reveals a precious tongue. When the lower jaw is triggered, the “Crazy Skull” sticks out its tongue set with 66 pink sapphires or rubies.

As always, de GRISOGONO is prepared to take however long is needed when it comes to going beyond limits and expressing creativity. It took 9 months to address this one-of-a-kind mouth mechanism. Finely, boldly and irreverently crafted in every detail, “Crazy Skull” features an original clasp made up of two bones set with diamonds or rubies displayed on a signature de GRISOGONO galuchat strap.

Once again, de GRISOGONO challenges conventions and brings its mischievous and crazy twist to the world of high jewellery watches.

Each stone’s place on the skull of the “Crazy Skull” has been marked out and guide holes have been drilled to create the pattern that will be set according to the snow-setting technique. Its jaw is made of an intricate bespoke mechanism entirely thought up and developed by the highly skilled de GRISOGONO master jewellers who devoted 9 months addressing its high complexity.

The “Crazy Skull” smiling mouth is set with an invisible setting of 7.70 carat sparkling white diamonds. The teeth are made of baguette-cut diamonds that have been set on a kind of denture entirely devised by the de GRISOGONO master jewellers and which is fixed inside the jaw.

The skull is snow-set either with more than 890 diamonds (white or black) or rubies totalling approximately 23 carats. This setting technique gives the gemsetter the greatest freedom of expression and combines more than 20 different sizes of stones to achieve the most harmonious possible composition.

The nose is made of an exclusive 1.5 carat heart-cut white diamond cut from a 3-carat square cut raw stone. When the lower jaw is triggered, the “Crazy Skull” sticks out its tongue set with 66 pink sapphires or rubies. Its original clasp is made up of two bones snow-set with diamonds or rubies displayed on a signature de GRISOGONO galuchat strap.

de GRISOGONO Meccanico DG Reloaded Limited Edition

de GRISOGONO, the prestigious Swiss luxury watch and jewellery manufacture, unveils a latest version of its exceptional complication watch, Meccanico DG.

Launched in 2008, the Meccanico DG, for the first time in the world, featured a digital display is driven exclusively by a mechanical system. With this exceptional mechanical wristwatch, Fawaz Gruosi, the founder of de GRISOGONO, explored an area where no watchmaker had ever been in watchmaking history: a digital display working thanks to a mechanical power.

It took 3 years of research and development to create this masterpiece, for which de GRISOGONO developed a digital-style display that works completely on wind-up power. Comprised of 651 components, this complicated movement has been patented by de GRISOGONO. The mechanically operated digital display of the second time-zone shows 4-digit decimal time, all displayed by mobile micro-segments driven by an assemblage of 23 cams connected to a set of gears and a triggering and synchronization system.

The Meccanico DG was awarded the Public Prize at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève in 2009. This mechanical marvel was produced in a limited and numbered edition of 177 pieces in total.

The 2014 novelty, Meccanico Reloaded will be produced in 3 limited editions of 10 pieces each. Technically, this new timepiece follows the same footsteps of its ancestor: A single hand wound mechanical movement, 2 time zones and 2 types of display: patented display featuring analogue and a world premiere digital display is driven by an exclusively mechanical system.

Currently available in three clourful versions, the Meccanico Reloaded timepiece is more vibrant when it comes to aesthetics and style. It is dressed in a luminescent carbon case on a titanium core, and inside it beats the hand-winding mechanical movement which powers the dual time and mechanical digital second time zone.

The ref. Meccanico reloaded N01 model has white indexes and digits featured on its open worked dial while two white SLN dauphine hands looks after hour and minute indication. This model is fitted with a black rubber strap featuring a matt titanium folding clasp. The ref. Meccanico reloaded N0 2 has green indexes and digits, green SLN dauphine hands, green rubber strap with matt titanium folding clasp. The ref. Meccanico reloaded N0 3 features yellow indexes and digits, yellow SLN dauphine hands, yellow rubber strap with matt titanium folding clasp.

Other features of the timepiece include, front & case back anti-reflection sapphire glass, power reserve indicator and rubber crown. Each Meccanico reloaded timepiece is tested for a water resistance up to 3 ATM.

de GRISOGONO GRAPPOLI

de GRISOGONO unveils GRAPPOLI, a brand new high jewellery timepiece which is highly precious, magnificently generous and eye-catching, thanks to the lively composition of precious metals, gems and stones. White diamonds, emeralds, amethysts, orange or blue sapphires compose a subtle snow set jewelling. The tone on tone artwork gives a feeling of deepness.

The moving briolette-cut stones sewed on the case, snow setting on the dial and the case: a one-of-a-kind jewel thanks to unique hand-setting and stone cut.

Each one this these exceptional creations is hand-setted, and approximately 30 hours per watch are required to set one stone by one.

Like a delicate flower in the wind, the briolette-cut stones subtly twirl around. The GRAPPOLI timepiece is available in Hand polished 18K pink gold, white gold, black rhodium plated white gold, or black rhodium plated pink gold case versions adorned with white diamonds, emeralds, orange and blue sapphires and amethysts.

This watch is a demonstration of de GRISOGONO master expertise in the art of gem setting. Powered with SF 10-47 quartz movement, this timepiece displays hours and minute indication. A push piece positioned at the case back can be used for time setting.  Each GRAPPOLI timepiece is tested for a water resistance up to 3 ATM.

de Grisogono Allegra Watch Collection

Fawaz Gruosi designed the first Allegra piece eleven years ago, and this jewellery collection was dedicated to his daughter, Allegra. This collection, a symbol of love of a father to his daughter, offered jewellery creations including rings, bracelets, earrings and pendants.

Now de Grisogono offers the Allegra watch. The square represents the essence of Fawaz Gruosi’s watchmaking style, even more than the circle. The Allegra watch – which gradually took shape in his imagination for ten year before it took shape in de Grisogono’s ateliers – is a double square, a squared square, a square to the power of two. It encloses time in a fortress, and encircles it with the dazzling fire, light, and energy of precious stones, these gems sculpt the perfectly proportioned square form of the case. So much more than a watch, it is a jewel that tells the time; but most of all, it is a quintessentially, exuberantly feminine bracelet.

In deciding how to place this double square on the wrist,Fawaz Gruosi recaptured the essence of wristwatches of the 1930s when the stars of the silver screen wore precious wristwatches on delicate cords.

Powered with Swiss quartz movement, the Allegra watch models are available in PVD steel, Pink gold, White gold and Diamond set white gold case versions. The dials are available Lacquered / black or white or Mother-of-pearl / pink, orange, red or black versions with Gold dauphine hands.

The Bezels are available with White diamonds (E, F – VVS), Emeralds, Pink or red spinels, Yellow sapphires and tsavorites, Orange sapphires, Pink sapphires and diamonds and Amethysts, sapphires, spinels and diamonds versions. The crown is set with a black diamond, de Grisogono’s signature.

The Allegra watch is supplied with custom fitted strap made of 20 intertwined leather cords of various colours with clasps in PVD steel, Pink gold, White gold or Diamond set versions depending upon the model.

de GRISOGONO Instrumentino Collection

de GRISOGONO’s new colorful Instrumentino Collection offers some sparking beauties. The double arabesque of the hours on the dial create an open lock on time, in its mother-of-pearl pallor or its shadowy depths and the topping of gem stones reminds us of Byzantine mosaics and cabinets of curiosities belonging to the mineralogists of the past.

The Russian Tsarina had her famous Amber Cabinet in the castle of Tsarskoye Selo. Now there will be cabinets of amethysts, pink sapphires and even orange sapphires. The stones create  a velour which, by the skill of the setting and the grain of the matching bracelets, underline the volumes of a watch that is open to the world with its two time displays.

de GRISOGONO SUGAR Collection

Fawaz Gruosi promoted Swiss luxury watch and high jewellery brand de GRISOGONO presents SUGAR, a new women’s timepiece collection as homage to beauty and colour.

The moving gems create a free movement all around the watch leaving a sparkling cascade of the highest quality of precious stones in white diamonds, emeralds, orange or blue sapphires.

Precious stones have been at the center of de GRISOGONO’s creative process since 1993; daring, innovative use of these pieces has been one of the pioneering traits of the Brand. In this new collection, four precious gems used to create ten decadent creations breaking out from the mold and introducing a fresh and avant-garde look.

These new creations appropriately named SUGAR add a little sweetness to the already notoriously bold and lavish de GRISOGONO pieces. Fawaz Gruosi’s creativity is in continuous motion and he feels relentlessly inspired by all that he sees in life. He never ceases to surprise its most loyal followers and has kept doing so with this collection.

SUGAR combines the artistry of the skilled gem-setters with the craftsmanship of the Brand’s timepiece designers; the intricate gem-setting techniques perfectly conceal the mechanical details of the movement. The colored mother of pearl render a soft, rich texture and the precious stones shine with an endless flow. de GRISOGONO reinvents the already iconic marriage of materials and precious gems, as well as the use of brilliant colours which distinguishes the de GRISOGONO’s unique style.

de GRISOGONO Tondo Tourbillon Gioiello

de GRISOGONO unveils its first ever interpretation of the highly sophisticated tourbillon complication, and does so in a model dedicated to women. The diamond-swathed Tondo Tourbillon Gioiello houses an exclusive new in-house developed and assembled de GRISOGONO mechanical movement, fitted with an off-centred tourbillon at 8 o’clock. These boldly designed timepieces, stemming from advanced research, reflect the inimitable contemporary baroque style cultivated by de GRISOGONO – a perfect blend of exceptional technical mastery and jewellery artistry.

The Tondo Tourbillon Gioiello collection is interpreted in three versions: one with white diamonds, a second with brown diamonds, and a third with the brand’s signature black diamonds.

The Tondo Tourbillon Gioiello illustrates the brand’s ever-growing mastery of the art of time measurement. This model introduces the first ever in-house mechanical hand-wound movement equipped with a tourbillon, unusually positioned at 8 o’clock.  The exclusive DG 31-88 calibre specially designed by de GRISOGONO makes a perfect fit with the oval-shaped Tondo XL case.

Exquisitely covered with brown, white or black mother-of-pearl, the various parts of the main plate serve as the dial. The bridges, tourbillon carriage and barrel, all developed in-house, are also clearly visible. This watch with its 72-hour power reserve displays the hours and minutes.

The new de GRISOGONO movement is exquisitely enhanced with various finely crafted technical details. The hand-polished and bevelled structural components reflect the noble traditions of fine horological finishes. On the underside of the calibre, experts will inevitably recognise the famous Côtes de Genève motif, and the brand signature and its coat-of-arms are engraved on the barrel ratchet-wheel at 12 o’clock.

The white gold case is water-resistant to 30 metres and sparkles with more than 8 carats of diamonds, running along the sides and all the way up to the lugs. The so-called “four grain” gemsetting technique keeps the quantity of metal beneath the gems to an absolute minimum, thereby intensify the sparkling reflections. 33 larger sized diamonds frame the bezel and endow it with remarkable radiance; while the brand’s emblematic deep black diamond adorns the crown.

The natural diamonds are of D to E colour and VVS clarity. The polished dauphine hands are in white or pink gold. The Galuchat strap, another famous de GRISOGONO signature feature, comes in white, brown or black according to the versions.

de GRISOGONO INSTRUMENTO N° UNO XL Dual Time

The new INSTRUMENTO N° UNO XL dual-time, passionately created by Fawaz Gruosi, embodies the brand’s emblematic contemporary baroque style, appearing for the first time in a model exclusively dedicated to men. Superbly legible and easy to use, it features more generous dimensions and an exotic touch through the materials composing it: white or pink gold, black or brown titanium, and precious Macassar ebony wood.

The new INSTRUMENTO N° UNO XL radiates sophisticated exuberance. This original and eminently modern timepiece displays distinctly larger dimensions with a 30mm x 30mm dial, as well as a case adjusted to this new size. A finely crafted new self-winding in-house developed movement, Calibre DF 11-96, is user-friendly and powers these exceptional timepieces. It drives a dual time-zone display that will please travellers and is adjustable via the crown.

This movement is developed internally by the new de GRISOGONO’s Technical Development Department team. Various meticulously crafted finishes anchor it firmly in the finest watchmaking traditions. Coated with a “blackened gold” treatment and visible through the sapphire caseback, it is adorned with the famous Côtes de Genève motif. The date function is displayed through an aperture positioned in an original spot between 7 and 8 o’clock and topped by a magnifying glass ensuring a clear reading. Resistance to 50 metres is ensured by systematic testing at 5 atm. The two models available are distinguished by a complex structure combined with noble materials. One is clad in white gold, black PVD-coated titanium, and dark ebony on the dial.

The other appears in pink gold, brown ebony and chestnut brown PVD-coated titanium – based on an original technique perfectly mastered by de GRISOGONO. In addition, this PVD coating is given a specific treatment that protects it from any marks or stains. Each model comprises around 100 grams of gold. This opulence is echoed in the use of precious Macassar ebony evoking 17th century baroque art. Imported from the Celebes islands to the north-east of Java, this type of wood features regular veins and is a noble and living material that evolves over time to make each watch a truly unique and organic creation.

The carefully mastered curves of the two counters appear against this refined ebony background, each displaying an independent time zone. The finesse of the decorations is echoed on the central counter with its “Clous de Paris” hobnail guilloché motif; as well as on the brown decorative sunburst brushed dual time-zone display in brown for the pink gold version and black for the white gold interpretation.

The stylised numerals in different dimensions are gracefully arranged around these tiny discs. The lugs are adjustable thanks to a patented mechanism created internally which ensures a perfect fit on all wrist sizes.

de GRISOGONO TONDO BY NIGHT

Swiss luxury watch & jewellery brand de GRISOGONO presents: TONDO BY NIGHT, a spectacular collection of watches that sparkle both by day and night thanks to an original pearly photoluminescent composite fiberglass material. The refined art of gemsetting blends smoothly with the technical sophistication of an exclusive in-house movement specially developed to display a gemset oscillating weight on the front side.

de GRISOGONO keeps creating trends that have put it at the forefront of the industry in both terms of technical innovations and breathtaking designs. In collaboration with an external lab, the TONDO BY NIGHT timepieces are daytime beauties that also shine at night thanks to Pearly Photoluminescent Composite Fibreglass (PLF), an innovative and exclusive luminescent material and enriched with small pieces of mother-of-pearl that give a stunning finish. This iridescent luminous material on the case and buckle, professionally tested to ensure total comfort, soaks up the daylight in order to lend it a glamorous glow when evening falls..

Admirably reflecting the vivid shades of summer, the TONDO BY NIGHT collection comes in several variations: white, yellow, pink, green, purple and orange. The Brand dedicated to excellence adopts a delightfully fresh new approach by offering a range of enchanting variations on its signature design codes. The black diamond on the crown, the Galuchat strap and the distinctive design of the Tondo case all stamp the collection with the hallmark of the inimitable de GRISOGONO style.

These radiant and playful oval-shaped timepieces sparkle with a row of 48 gems on the bezel as well as 60 precious stones arranged in three rows on the oscillating weight. Interpreted in various colours depending on the model, this precious timepiece glows with white diamonds, orange, pink or yellow sapphires, green tsavorites or amethysts.

de GRISOGONO OTTURATORE

Imagined by Fawaz Gruosi and combining a dynamic display and improved legibility, the highly original OTTURATORE design raises the art of horological complications to a new level of inventive excellence. The center piece of this unprecedented creation –the first to be entirely developed and crafted in-house –is a high-performance mobile “sequencer” boasting three patented de GRISOGONO innovations. This groundbreaking model confirms de GRISOGONO’s determination to shun the beaten track in favour of genuine innovation.

A new concept in the de GRISOGONO style and spirit only makes sense if it embodies a good measure of bold design, refined aesthetics, expert workmanship and contemporary sophistication. This complex and demanding vision gave rise to the OTTURATORE, first introduced as a prototype in 2008, and available on the market since 2011 in five different models, two exclusive for the de GRISOGONO boutiques.

Radiating a contemporary baroque design expressed through superlative technical features, useful functions, subtle detailing and eye-catching displays, its stylish lines conceal an unusually complex and resolutely world-first sequential rotating dial mechanism. To give a concrete idea of the extremes embodied in this technology that truly takes timekeeping into a new dimension, the dial rotates 18 times faster than the blink of an eye (16/1000ths of a second compared with 3/10ths of a second); and the acceleration energy required (9G) is greater than that of a jet plane (8G).

Along with the hour and minute hands at the center, the OTTURATORE displays on demand the seconds, the date, the phases of the moon and the movement’s power reserve. Its greatest originality lies in the selective display of each of these separate indications. Classic Haute Horlogerie timepieces usually fit all their complications together on the dial, thereby detracting from the latter’s instant legibility. Fawaz Gruosi chose to simplify the dial layout for much improved clarity: thanks to the OTTURATORE’s mobile dial, the wearer chooses which indication he wants to consult and his OTTURATORE will display it, while hiding the three others from view.

Patented by de GRISOGONO, the OTTURATORE’s basic feature is a mobile clockwise-rotated dial operated simply by pressing a mechanical pushpiece. The increment of rotation of such a device depends on the number of complications or indications of the watch; the OTTURATORE’s increment of rotation is 90°. While the principle seems simple enough, its design is totally unprecedented: it propels watchmaking technology from the sphere of slow speeds to that of hyper velocities.

Until now, horological complications focused mainly on a specific function, usually a matter of actioning a simple sequence of gears or springs. The OTTURATORE truly embodies another dimension in time. A slight pressure on a push piece –whose travel is of the order of one millimeter –is enough to harness enough power to drive the mobile dial by 90° instantly. In a standard mechanical construction, a finger pressing a push piece for a brief instant exerts insufficient force to set in motion mechanical components with strong inertial resistance. The OTTURATORE’s sequential selector can achieve this because it can instantly action the various dynamic functions (controls, connecting and disconnecting operations, mechanical memory, gears and so forth) while taking into account power drain, inertia and friction.

The complex interplay of the movements involved generates counterforces, a bit like a car instantly accelerating to its top speed then immediately braking to a full stop with absolute precision on a predetermined line.

de GRISOGONO’s exclusive sequential display module comprises over 300 components. It includes its own mainspring and barrel providing the necessary reserve power and manually wound by pressing a mechanical pushpiece. A second, more traditional mainspring-and-barrel unit gives the movement a 42-hour power reserve.

Since innovative mechanical solutions call for contemporary Haute Horlogerie design, the OTTURATORE’s substantial cambered rectangular case features a pair of large pushpieces, as well as a crown engraved with the signature de GRISOGONOcrest. The dial designed in three parts specifically highlights de GRISOGONO’s novel approach to time displays. Its exclusive design is notable for its contrasts and plurality of levels.

The case’s very contemporary character contrasts elegantly with a cobbled “Clous de Paris” pattern in the grand tradition, as do the finely proportioned “dauphine” style hour and minute hands with the strict geometry of the case. The “hidden face” of de GRISOGONO’s new design is protected by a cambered sapphire crystal, revealing a blackened movement and traditional decorative motifs characteristic of complex watchmaking. The transparent case back provides a revealing look at the heart of a timepiece that sets pioneering standards of elegance in luxury, innovation in refinement and excellence in performance.

The development of the sequential display selector proved such a challenge that de GRISOGONO’s research team had to resort to innovative, sophisticated techniques such as simulation and numerical calculations. Adding mathematics to software to apply physical laws, techniques of this kind are commonly used in the research labs of the aeronautics and automotive industries. Using models incorporating multiple variables, special programs of this kind serve to optimize mechanical operations and functions.

Were it not for them, designing the OTTURATORE would have been a hopeless task. The most expert watchmaker can of course gauge the movement of watch hands but he would be at a loss to master the dual relationships between fleeting mechanical functions lasting a few milliseconds.

The OTTURATORE’s unique design should be seen as an initial step in the development of a new generation of timepieces. Heralding a novel dimension in Haute Horlogerie design, the sequential selector patented by de GRISOGONO will inevitably appear in other applications that are bound to alter dramatically the world of horological complications.

de GRISOGONO Black Forever Collection

The Black Forever Collection was launched in 2011 to celebrate de GRISOGONO’s association with black diamonds.

Fawaz Gruosi, the passionate designer known for his daring creations in high jewellery and timepieces, pays tribute to black that has adorned the de GRISOGONO collections since its origins in 1993. Fifteen years after placing the black diamond at the top of the international jewellery scene, he has become renowned worldwide for his innovative designs featuring this precious gem, rich in colour and a symbol of contrast. Eleven years since having blackened his first watch movement, Fawaz Gruosi stands out as the luxury industry’s pioneer for having placed black at the centre of his timepiece creations which adds depth, mystery and glamour. A success rapidly emulated throughout the watch world that is celebrated by de GRISOGONO through “Black Forever”, a collection of its iconic timepieces.

This story began in 1996 with the love for the jeweller’ s artistry and the desire to break away from established traditions. Owing to the rarity and precious nature of the black diamond, only a select few emerge as settings on the luxury jewellery pieces. Months of research and detailed examination is carried out by its highly skilled gemmologists.

In 1996 having been introduced to the famous 190 carat “Black Orlov” diamond, Fawaz Gruosi fell under the spell of these mysterious gems rarely used at the time which was due to their extreme fragility. Fawaz Gruosi appreciated the gem’s powerful and mysterious colour and began experimenting. It was at this stage that he realised their ability to compliment and embellish his jewellery designs through their combination with other stones and colours.

This genuine revelation came to him, when he placed a magnificent white pearl in their midst. His first collection was born: a ring in blackened white and yellow gold, set with 120 black diamonds weighing 17 carats, highlighting a 17mm South Sea white pearl. With its classic composition and amazing volume and patterns, the white pearl is perfectly accentuated by the simple luster of black diamonds, creating a striking effect. The black diamond became de GRISOGONO’s emblem and from the year 2000, the crowns of many of their most iconic timepieces have been set with this precious stone.

In 2002, Fawaz Gruosi presented an exceptional ring set with the world’s largest black diamond of 312.30 carats, which he named “The Spirit of de GRISOGONO”. This exceptional stone was part of the “Diamonds” exhibition at the Natural History Museum in Paris for t he world to admire. It was cut from a stone of 587 carats and mounted on a ring set with 704 white diamonds. The ring was Moghul-cut, a style of cutting developed in India hundreds of years ago. It was not long before the world’ s elite began to notice, putting de GRISOGONO at the top of the luxury wish list. As a result, the price of the black diamond soared. de GRISOGONO quickly gained international fame with its jewels and timepieces set with black diamonds.

The black diamond derives its colour from the presence of a myriad of microscopic graphite or hematite particles that absorb the light and give the stone its particular lustre. However, this composition makes it all the more fragile and prone to crumbling during cutting. And so, by its very nature, the black diamond is intrinsically more difficult to work with than the white diamond, despite their equal hardness. In fact, the stone contains varying crystalline structures and different kinds of mineral deposits, each posing a challenge to the setter. The stone setter must demonstrate thorough vigilance and possess exceptional intuition, not to mention professional training and talent for this craft. So under these circumstances, it is not surprising that cutting a black diamond takes five times longer than a white one. In view of this, de GRISOGONO has had to develop special equipment for this work.

From the unique jewellery pieces to the boutique collections, it is this specialized expertise, which provides the value added, whereby each stone sold undergoes an appropriate assessment, conducted by one of the approved institutes. This practice obviously requires a rigorous pre-selection of all the diamonds set on the various models. From the most opulent to the most sober, they each have their own certificate of authenticity.

For fifteen years, de GRISOGONO has used the natural black diamond adhering to a strict selection process and an attested assessment procedure, for its luxury jewellery pieces, as well as for its timepieces and jewellery collections. Each of Fawaz Gruosi’s creations, whether a unique high jewellery piece or a complete jewellery collection, is designed and manufactured with the same passion, attention to detail and aim for perfection. The brand has one of the world’s most highly qualified workshops, capable of faithfully interpreting Fawaz Gruosi’s most innovative ideas and of fashioning jewel s of generous and harmonious volumes and dimensions.

These are veritable works of art, combining the classicism of handcraft know-how and precious stones with innovative technology and materials. The same emotion and passion emanate from the bracelet and the bezel in black diamonds of the Piccolina, as from the fully studded dial of the Instrumentino, two of the brand’s prestigious timepiece collections.

The black diamond evokes excellence and exerts a powerful influence on our imagination, leaving no doubt of the brand’ s knowledge and DNA in the world of luxury. This year at Baselworld 2011, the romance continues with a new jewellery line of Galuchat bracelets set with black diamonds in the form of the brand’s emblematic arabesque design. A new addition to the hi gh jewellery collection from Fawaz Gruosi’s imagination includes a ring in blackened rose gold set with a 20 carat black diamond surrounded by brown diamonds, purple sapphires and amethysts.

To further honour the stone, de GRISOGONO launched a special edition of timepieces entitled “Black Forever”. From the brand’s first watch collection “Instrument o No Uno”to the “Meccanico dG”, de GRISOGONO’s Black Forever Collection is a true concentration of the technological innovation of seven timepieces which have been re-inspired. A blend of materials and subtle lines highlight these exclusive pieces with a highly avant-garde personality.

After giving back the deserved nobility to the black diamond, Fawaz Gruosi let his imagination run free in this bold universe of black. A look that is both simple and quintessentially luxurious – black dials with anthracite decals on grey or white indexes and hands, watchstraps in black Galuchat or rubber, cases in blackened matte PVD, subtlety set or fully set with natural black diamonds and the brand’s signature blacken movements. The luxurious simplicity of black today gives birth to a collection of timepieces combining simplicity, elegance and artistic know-how.

de GRISOGONO Meccanico dG Edition 2011

Launched in 2008, Meccanico dG, the masterpiece horology creation from de GRISOGONO was a global hit and now its creator Fawaz Gruosi presents an exclusive edition of this horology marvel by offering a delightful play on contrasts between the white hour-markers and micro-segments and the matt black alligator leather strap. This new limited edition timepiece will be unveiled at Baselworld 2011.

The Meccanico dG from Geneva based luxury watch & high jewellery brand de GRISOGONO, with its double analogue and digital mechanical display, is firmly establishing itself as an exceptional example of contemporary fine watchmaking.

A prizewinner at the 2009 Geneva International Grand Prix, this model houses an extremely sophisticated movement. The inexorably accurate choreography of its gear trains, cams and micro-segments creates extraordinary emotion and a poetic sense of fascination. It is now introduced in an exclusive new version enhanced by a matt black titanium case featuring imposing yet elegant lines.

Beating at the heart of the watch is Caliber DF 22-93, a hand-wound movement composed of 651 parts assembled inhouse according to the finest traditions of haute horlogerie. The analogue display of the hours and minutes in the upper part of the dial features white hour-markers and hands, while the mechanical digital display in the lower part corresponds to a 2nd time zone.

The latter shows the tens of hours, single hours, tens of minutes and single minutes through the action of white mobile microsegments driven by a set of 23 cams combined with gears plus a triggering/synchronisation device. The transition between one indication and the next involves the instantaneous 90° rotation of between 1 and 12 different segments. In one year, the function is activated 518,400 times and sets a massive 285 million parts into motion.

The matt black alligator leather strap sets the perfect finishing touch to an understated and yet impulsive design. This outstanding micro mechanical art piece, which is bound to appeal to elegant men looking for chic and refined luxury, provides an exclusive horological foretaste of a special edition heralding a collection to be unveiled in its entirety at Baselworld 2011.

de GRISOGONO Instrumento N°UNO, 10th Anniversary Collection

In 2010, to celebrate 10 years of the Instrumento N°UNO collection, Fawaz Gruosi, founder and chairman of de GRISOGONO, revisited this icon with a daring, resolutely Pop Art approach.

Housing a mechanical movement with automatic winding, Instrumento NºUno has two essential complications – a dual time zone display and a large date display in the 7:35 position. Its understated yet powerful look and the clean lines and exemplary readability of the face, have made it one of the benchmarks of the Geneva brand since its launch in 2000. The collection has maintained the classicism of the early days, while adding a touch of colour to bring it into a contemporary context.

The four designs for women give pride of place to works of modern art and it is easy to imagine these creations next to the great classics of Andy Warhol or Roy Lichtenstein in the Guggenheim in New York.

A touch of impertinence and a good dose of freshness emanate from the black steel case set with brightly coloured stones, brilliantly matched with shagreen straps and faces enhanced with the same shades.

It is a design that embodies a real joie de vivre and makes telling the time always a pleasure. Three shagreen straps in matching colours, enhanced with drops of white gold set with white diamonds, complete this very attractive special edition.

With three designs at the height of contemporary art, the men are not to be outdone. For him, Instrumento N°Uno takes on a black alligator skin strap perfectly suited to its black matt stainless steel case.

An understated and elegant masculine look enhanced with a black lacquered face that sets off the subtlety of the bright and sparkling colours of the pointer, hands and Arab numerals.

Green, orange, red… each man can choose the shade that represents him in a style reinvented by de GRISOGONO. A limited edition of 100, available in a boxed set of three, so that elegance goes hand in hand with exclusivity.

de GRISOGONO  also a launched a showpiece Instrumento N°Uno timepiece in a white gold case exclusively set with 240 white baguette-cut diamonds. The face is fully decorated with 148 specimens of the same gem giving it an understated and precious look and emphasising the dual time zone display, in which the hour and minute hands seem to float on an ocean of baguette-cut diamonds. In the first version, this true work of art of watchmaking plays fully on contrasts with the flashing black diamond set on the crown offsetting the black shagreen strap.

The second version of this opus is mounted on a white gold strap set with 362 baguette-cut white diamonds, some of which are even set in the clasp. This showpiece contains more than 52 carats of diamonds, brilliantly combining the skills of the watchmaker and jeweller, and perfectly marking 10 years of the Instrumento N°Uno collection.

de GRISOGONO Instrumento Novantatre

The Instrumento Novantatre collection was first unveiled in 2007. In 2010 de GRISOGONO enhanced this line with new sparking creations. The generous volume, sturdy lugs and cambered lines of the Instrumento Novantatre are lit up with a new radiance. Its distinctive sporting chic case is adorned with baguette-cut rubies, blue sapphires or diamonds.

Their meticulous assembly creates a stunning geometrical effect that creates a striking contrast with the gem-setting on the dial. In addition to the oversized 9 and 3 o’clock numerals and the white gold hands, the dial is finely set with baguette-cut black or white diamonds, blue sapphires and rubies. The result is an exquisitely precious stage on which time is played out to perfection, directed by a self-winding movement indicating the date and months in addition to the hours, minutes and small seconds.

To enhance the smooth appearance of these variations, the curve of the Instrumento Novantatre is extended by a strap in pink stingray for the ruby version, in blue stingray to match the blue sapphires, or in black alligator leather for the diamond-set version.

de GRISOGONO Instrumentino Steel & Diamonds

The elegant sportiness of the celebrated Instrumentino collection reconfirms its feminine appeal with two new luxury dial designs. With the signature « volutes » scrollwork, diamonds galore and improved legibility, these new Instrumentino Steel & Diamonds display singular elegance and exclusive glamour.

Instrumentino Steel & Diamonds’ original design instantly strikes the eye…harmonious proportions, streamlined silhouette, a trim square-shaped bezel. Strength and softness meet and match, enhanced by the contemporary sheen of polished steel and the lively sparkle of a pair of new dial faces. More feminine and refined than ever, stylishly fashionable in spirit, their understated design provides the crisp legibility so valued today.

The Instrumentino’s steel case features two new dial versions, with sleek trim but radically differing styling. While the original models displayed a discreet sprinkling of diamonds on the hour markers and mobile case lugs, today’s designs sparkle and shine with a thousand fires. Their polished steel case’s understated finish contrasts with the dial’s diamond-set patterns and the black « volutes » scrollwork motifs so prized by de GRISOGONO.

One version features 19 brilliant-cut diamonds set into the subdial at 6 o’clock displaying the second time-zone. The watch is also available with a setting of 64 brilliant-cut stones arrayed around the first time-zone indication in the pattern of a lunar eclipse. Six black diamonds at 3, 9 and 12 o’clock add a contrasting touch.

New dials for improved legibility – while the original Instrumentino Steel & Diamonds shows the time in both time-zones with diamond-set hour markers and oversized Arabic numerals, the two new versions have opted for quiet understatement. Small “nailhead” type markers and the absence of numerals compose a neat, trim legible dial face – elegantly harmonious graphics with a quietly feminine touch.

Reflecting de GRISOGONO’s traditional attention to detail, the Instrumentino Steel & Diamonds comes with a black galuchat strap secured to the case by mobile links. Together with diamond-set patterns and « volutes » scrollwork, this rare and precious material endows a steel-cased watch with a full measure of the elegance and refinement that, as always, spell de GRISOGONO.

de Grisogono Instrumento Grande Open Date New Version

This updated version of the Instrumento Grande Open Date can be defined by its elegant, easy-to-read dial. The 2, 4, 8 and 11 o’clock hour markers have been removed and the de Grisogono logo shifted to 9 o’clock, improving on the original Instrumento Grande’s readability and functionality. With its open dial displaying two exceptionally large discs forming the date, the Instrumento Grande Open Date combines utility and elegance.

Two perfect circles meeting in a strict rectangle, triangles contrasting with the case’s right angles – de Grisogono reinvents geometry with the Instrumento Grande Open Date, a harmonious combination of curves, straight lines and angles. The guilloché brass dial opening, divided into quarters, reveals two large date discs, with the current date appearing in a transfer aperture at 6 o’clock, where the discs overlap.

Offset towards 3 o’clock, the two large discs add to the originality and stylishness of this modern, refined timepiece. Several original details contribute to the perpetual-movement design of the Instrumento Grande Open Date. Its large dauphine hands are coated in Superluminova to match the pink gold case, as are the bevelled-arrow markers at 3, 9 and 12 o’clock, arrayed around the slowly rotating discs.

Like the Instrumento Grande, the Instrumento Grande Open Date features an exceptionally large case. A well proportioned horizontal rectangle, it displays generously rounded hinged strap connectors. With its ingenious, stunning and stylish “at-a-glance” calendar, Fawaz Gruosi’s new design will delight everyone with an eye for the unusual. Not only has its dial revealed its every secret, its heart can also be observed through an opening at 9 o’clock in the case rim. Protected by a sapphire crystal, it provides a penetrating view of the movement from an unexpected angle.

Available in pink gold only, Instrumento Grande Open Date comes in a choice of four masculine dial styles: brown with brown discs and white numerals, black with white discs and black numerals, silvered with white discs and black numerals or set with baguette-cut white diamonds.

de GRISOGONO Occhio Ripetizione Minuti Limited Edition New Model

de GRISOGONO’s Occhio Ripetizione Minuti, introduced in 2005, proved a milestone in Haute Horlogerie design. Today, its maker is issuing a new limited series featuring a splendidly adorned case set with a multitude of baguette diamonds.

The novel styling approach unveiled by de GRISOGONO is meant as a salute to one of its most ambitious and exclusive creations, the Instrumento Occhio Ripetizione Minuti. Undisputed Queen of Complications, this exceptional minute repeater’s new and masterful interpretation features a mechanism inspired by a reflex camera’s. Formed by twelve mobile titanium blades, the diaphragm opens and closes at will, revealing the movement for the duration of the chimes.

While up to now the repeater has only been available with cool, understated styling, de GRISOGONO has just given its personality a dazzling makeover, setting 154 baguette-cut diamonds (totalling 18 carats) on the bezel, case flanks and lugs. This spectacular “suit of lights” contrasts dramatically with its highly complex mechanical systems.

The technical features that make the Occhio Ripetizione Minuti such an exceptional timepiece remain the same. Although it works on an identical principle, its exclusive diaphragm subassembly is more compact and resistant than those of cameras, opening and shutting instantaneously. It opens by the simultaneous movement of all twelve blades the instant the minute repeater is triggered, closing as soon as the hours, quarters and minutes have sounded on three gongs.

Since it is designed to display its mechanical wonders, the watch has nothing to hide. Its curved sapphire case back secured by six screws reveals the movement of the three hammers on the gongs and the movement’s exclusive decorative patterns.

On the front, a sharply curved sapphire crystal, not unlike a camera lens, reveals the play of racks, levers and springs. Testifying to the movement’s meticulous finish, its bridges and plates are anthracite gray and screwheads brightly polished, while moving parts retain the natural colour of the material they are made of – all visual refinements enhanced by the case’s splendidly shimmering dress.

de GRISOGONO Instrumento Doppio

Introduced in 2002, this exceptional mechanical timepiece has been baptised Instrumento Doppio’ by virtue of its double-faced case, giving a choice of either a dial with chronograph functions/big date or a dial showing a second time zone.

Born two years after Instrumento N° Uno as a tribute to the numeral 2, Instrumento Doppio features an ingenious pivoting-case construction that enables two complications based on a single movement, each displayed on opposite dials: an oversized date calendar (in twin apertures) and a second time zone.

The chronograph dial displays hours, minutes and chronograph functions along with a particularly legible oversized date calendar in twin apertures at 12 o’clock. On the opposite side, the second time-zone dial features an analog display of hours and minutes. Its strikingly unorthodox construction has the hands rotating directly through the oscillating weight that winds the movement. In contrast to a traditionally cased-up movement, this time the dial is under the rotor, which is inscribed with the words “Instrumento Doppio”, and briefly obscures some of the dial figures as it moves constantly.

From a technical point of view, the Instrumento Doppio broke new ground. Both of its analog displays are driven by the same movement and barrel, on which de GRISOGONO’s watchmakers have fitted an auxiliary chronograph module.

On the other side, they developed an exclusive, integrated mechanism made of two modules: one displays a time zone and the other resets it. 83 new components had to be designed for this now-patented device. For the first time ever, it combines a double analogue display and a hands system that goes through the oscillating weight.

de Grisogono Uno Grande Seconde

Introduced in 2006, de GRISOGONO’s Uno Grande Seconde brings sweeping change both to the presentation of passing time and the classic layout of wristwatch dials. It prominently features a large seconds hand at the centre of the dial, while the hours and the minutes are displayed in a sub-dial at 6 o’clock — reversing time-reading habits and bringing a fresh look on time.

Echoing this original approach to time, the dial is a study in originality, a perfectly-controlled play on levels and contrasts. Squares encounter circles. The engine-turned, hobnailed “Clou de Paris” pattern in the grand tradition meets the very contemporary design of the case.

And there is even more contrast between the slim, seconds hand, tipped with the de GRISOGONO crest, and the pair of stylish “dauphine” hands for hours and minutes. Its outcurved rectangular case holds a self-winding mechanical movement featuring a proprietary de GRISOGONO auxiliary module.

de Grisogono Instrumento Grande

Introduced in 2005, the Instrumento Grande by de Grisogono is a chic and resolutely masculine timepiece featuring an extremely large date displaying and an imposing rectangular case.

Clear, easy to read and functional, this is what Instrumento Grande’s oversized date is all about. This self-winding, mechanical model has the largest display of this kind on a wristwatch. For this purpose, de GRISOGONO has developed an exclusive, patented auxiliary module.

Curved on both sides, Grande’s generous dimensions form a horizontal rectangle on the wrist, echoed by the equally sober, rectangular aperture of its date calendar. Original in every respect, Instrumento Grande also features an aperture on the edge of the case at 9 o’clock, where a sapphire crystal provides an unusual perspective of the movement and the auxiliary de GRISOGONO module, a feature that cannot but delight aficionados of watchmaking originality.

The back of the case is also fitted with sapphire crystal through which one can admire the oscillating weight, engraved with the words “INSTRUMENTO GRANDE” while the crown bears the de GRISOGONO crest.

de Grisogono Occhio Ripetizione Minuti

Introduced in 2005, the Instrumento Occhio Ripetizione Minuti is a wrist-worn, minute-repeater timepiece featuring cathedral gong chimes. Its exclusiveness is further emphasized by a major technical innovation derived from a reflex camera split-second opening: the Instrumento Occhio features a twelve-blade diaphragm that opens to reveal the movement while the chimes are sounding. More compact and sturdier than on a camera, the proprietary diaphragm module that equips the Occhio Ripetizione Minuti also serves as watch dial when closed, and is made of twelve mobile titanium blades.

A fully original contribution to watch-making, the diaphragm opens and shuts instantaneously. It opens through the simultaneous retraction of its twelve blades when the minute repeater is triggered, and shuts immediately after the chime of hours, quarters and minutes on the three gongs. As the watch plays with eye- and vision-based concepts, its design is as transparent as possible.

Secured by six screws, its slightly convex case back reveals the strike of its three hammers on their respective gongs and the elegant decoration of the movement. The other side of the watch features a markedly outcurved, spherical sapphire crystal, reminding of a camera lens, that provides surprisingly clear visibility of the diaphragm and, when the latter opens, of the movement of racks, levers and springs.

As a testimony to the extreme care with which the movement has been finished and decorated, the charcoal-grey hue of its bridges, bars and plates contrasts dramatically with the brightly-polished screw heads, while the moving parts display their original metal colour.
