Alexander Shorokhoff CROSSING 2 Limited Edition

The second edition of the model “Crossing” from Alexander Shorokhoff has been extended with new dials. The division of both functional sectors – the upper part shows the minutes and the lower part shows the seconds – remains the same. As well as the hour indicator with an automatic movement from Dubois Depraz is still jumping in the big window at 12 o’clock. But the design gets a sporty, cool new look.

Alexander Shorokhoff CROSSING 2 Limited Edition

Unusual color combinations are the main motive of the new Edition. It’s getting more extravagant, however all components fit together harmonically. The new dials pay more attention to detail.

The small seconds ring with clear marks show a better advantage, while the seconds with black and white checkered plaids are easier to read. One of the new dials comes in a beautiful dark mother-of-pearl dial, which fascinates at the very first sight. The hands match the dial.

The distinguishing large numbers 20 and 40 are inconspicuous eye-catcher and underline the identity of this excellent watch. The exclusively outfitted genuine croc-straps are matching the dials of the new model “Crossing 2”.

The rotor is hand-engraved in traditional manner and additionally gold-plated and can be admired through the sapphire glass bottom. The case is made of stainless steel, the bezel and the case back have a high-gloss polishing, and the middle part is brushed. The top glass has an anti-reflective coating.

Alexander Shorokhoff Levels Limited Edition

Introduced in 2018, the watch “Levels” gets its name from the different levels of the dial. One level stands for your home time while the next level shows you the local time of the place wherever you are at the moment. On the third level the “Alexander Shorokhoff”-logo is placed and the fourth level shows the limitation number of the watch. All levels are of different height.

The most important and highest level is placed above the calendar window. There, at an elevated “bridge” a magnifying glass is positioned in a creative and innovative way in order to enlarge the visibility of the relative small date display of the refined ETA movement cal. 2671.

In this arrangement the magnifying glass resembles a monocle and underlines the creativity of Alexander Shorokhov, who is breaking with the practice to built-in the magnifying glass directly into the sapphire front glass.

The complete rose gold-plated “skyscraper” construction is built on a guilloched basement in petrol-blue or silver colour, creating contrasts and harmony at the same time. The colours have been selected perfectly. However, for an avant-garde artist it would be too simple and unimaginative to leave it like that. Alexander Shorokhov is looking to add something extraordinary in order to give the watch an inimitable characteristic.

By applying a coloured stripe of indefinite form the artist succeeded in keeping the perfect arrangement and, at the same time, to impart the watch the unmistakable “Alexander Shorokhoff-design”.

Among other unique watches by Alexander Shorokhoff this model belongs to the special philosophy of “Art on the wrist“ and is produced in limited edition of only 99 pieces per dial.

Alexander Shorokhov Revolution

With the watch “Revolution” Alexander Shorokhov wanted to realize his talentof engineer by showing more art and more “Avantgarde” in his design. At the same time, he was expressing his view to the future. Moreover, this new model should be in some contrast to the current watch models.

The new watch was presented, for the first time at the watch exhibition “Inhorgenta” in 2019 to a wide public and the press.

With the big case of diameter 43.5 mm Alexander Shorokhov is creating space for the movement and the dial and also makes room for his revolutionary imagination.

Continuing his direction of avantgarde art he completes the free space with geometrical elements as a square, a pyramid and a sphere as well as with small movement parts like springs and wheels. These parts are literally floating in the free room of the case which is likely to be broken through by the metallic bars. A small bridge with enamel coating in the centre is connecting the watch with the space which otherwise remains free and transparent.

The inner rim of the case and the outer edge of the small dial are similar to technical wheels. The aim was to create a feeling for the industrialisation and the heavy change of life of the people. Here, this emotion plays an important part.

The big industry and the fine mechanism of watches are connecting with each other perfectly. Both aspects are symbolic for the watches of the Avantgarde-collection by Alexander Shorokhoff – connecting the non-compatible. In this way, place for reflection, thinking over and philosophizing arises. This is what makes this watch so interesting and exciting and a real eye catcher.

There are different versions of the dial. On the one hand the designer wants to bring special symbols of revolution into the game – hammer and sickle. On the other hand some avant-garde and multi-coloured dials with different shape should be presented. So, every single dial will get its own art character. Hammer and sickle are assembled of rectangular parts and enamelled by hand. The additional use of transparent enamel gives rise to more depth of the colour.

In a further design version the hammer and sickle are completely engraved. Stars and of course the big number 60 help to read the time.

The third avant-garde dial with different shapes and colours fits perfectly in with the family of its predecessors “Miss Avantgarde”, “Plus-Minus” and “Kandy Avantgarde”.

The case back is enamelled in blue and black with further information about the watch. The rotor of the automatic movement is hand-engraved and refined.

Alexander Shorokhoff Los Craneos 2 – The Second Limited Edition Collection Dedicated to the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo

The first limited series of the watch model “Los Craneos’’ was already dedicated to Frida Kahlo, a famous Mexican painter. The successor was introduced at the watch exhibition “Inhorgenta“, in February 2019.

The skulls remain, but this time they underline the happy and colourful side of Frida Kahlo’s art. For quite some time, Frida Kahlo was in big pain after an accident and because of the corset she was forced to bear. However, this did not keep her from creating highly artistic paintings which are still appreciated and popular today.

Now, the skulls are covered by coloured enamel, resulting in a much more emotional, vivid and peaceful appearance. The colour of the enamel coating of each sector has been selected thoroughly in order to amend the transmission of artistic emotion. For the dials production mostly transparent enamel is used, giving the colour an additional depth. The back sides of the skulls have been set off by a mat treatment made by the engraver in hand work with a special stylus.

After this treatment, the sectors are artificially worked out in typical Mexican tradition inspired by ancient Aztec patterns. For better legibility of time the different sectors and their elements are arranged so that they can be subdivided in hours. In contrast to the first model of this series the colours of the dial’s background are not as radical as the popular all black predecessor. Now the dial shines in noble champagne colour or in a clean metallic grey tone. The 62 striking metallic studs are now covered in yellow gold.

The case for the two automatic movements is made of stainless steel in same manner as for the predecessor model. The movements are accordingly hand-engraved and refined. They can be seen through the glass windows in the case back.

This watch model is produced in a limited edition of 88 pieces with champagne coloured dial and of 65 pieces with dark grey metallic dial.

Alexander Shorokhoff Los Craneos – Dedicated to the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo

In 2018, Alexander Shorokhoff introduced Los Craneos, a limited edition watch as a tribute to Mexican artist Frida Kahlo.

At the beginning of the 20th century, artists like Diego Rivera, José Clemente Orozco, David Siqueiros and Frida Kahlo have revolutionized the Mexican art with their independent, avant-garde and for this time colourful nature of paintings. They all became world-famous artists.

In 2017, during his journey through Mexico, Mr. Shorokhov visited museums and sites, where these artists lived and worked. He was fascinated by the power of their paintings and the blaze of colour, by the exposure and creativity, as well as of their inimitable and national character. He was especially impressed by Frida Kahlo, who had a spectacular but dramatic life full of pain and passion. In 2018, Alexander Shorokhov dedicated a new watch “Los Craneos” to her.

Two items serve as main motif for this watch: The skulls and the tapering metal appliqués on the dial. Both elements represent the fight of Frida Kahlo against death. Furthermore skulls are deeply rooted in the Mexican culture as a symbol for gambling with life and death. This watch models name means Skulls in Spanish. The manifold pyramidal tapering metal elements at the dial symbolize the painful corset of Frida Kahlo. The production of such a dial requires a great deal of time and skill, concentration and patience, because all parts are separately made and then applied step by step.

“Los Craneos” is made as a double-time watch in order to illustrate the situation of Frida Kahlo hovering between life and death, a situation that was normal to her; nevertheless shewas always painting and creating her world famous artworks. Placed on one time zone is the calendar, on the other time zone a central second hand is placed. The artists also lived in two time zones – real life was running gradually, while time working seemed to fly by with the speed of light.

For the double time zones two ETA 2671 automatic movements of are used. Both movements are hand-engraved and can be seen through the sapphire glass back of the case. The case is of solid stainless steel with brushed sides and a hand-polished highgloss bezel.

For the design of this watch, Alexander Shorokhoff refrained from the application of colours – there are only black and silver parts in order to illustrate the dark theme of this watch. This watch model is limited to only 47 pieces. The same number of years Frida Kahlo has delighted people in the world with her artwork.

Alexander Shorokhov Tourbillon Picassini Limited Edition

With this ultra-limited edition timepiece, Alexander Shorokhov pays tribute to Pablo Picasso, one of the most important and significant artists of the 20th century. His work fascinated and inspired numerous artists in the world.

In his latest watch design, which is dedicated to the legendary painter, Alexander Shorokhov touches the issue of faces and genders. This topic was often illustrated in Picasso’s pictures and made him world-famous.

The central motif of the Tourbillon “Picassini” is the connection of two faces of men and women. The face of the woman is shown by curves: soft, pleasant, a little bit withdrawn. The face of the man taking up most of the circle: dominating, jagged, rough. Thus the dial is divided into two parts. On the left side there are sectors with curvy lines and elements, similar to a shape of a woman. The sector between 9 and 10 o’clock is engraved by hand and reminds of a diamond mine. The right-hand side reminds of a man – with more straight and sharp contours.

The stars represent an award from the military. Some sectors are enamelled by hand, some are covered with mother-of-pearl. The borders of the sectors correspond with the hour markers. This makes it easy to read the time. The round central part of the dial is surrounded by a round-angular ring. This shows the minutes as well as the alphabet on a chessboard pattern.

The movement is a manual winding tourbillon of the well-known producer Concepto.
Featured with a 60 hours power reserve it is not necessary to wind up the watch every day. The bridges of the tourbillion were completely hand-engraved by the engravers of the manufactory and turned into brilliant pieces of art.

The glass bottom permits a look at the mechanical beauty, which is located in squared stainless steel case, surrounded by 18 Karat red gold wires. All this makes this masterpiece even more special, more creative and more high-grade.

With the limited edition of only 5 pieces the manufactory differentiate from others and distinguish themselves from the market as an independent, future-oriented Brand with a focus on art and culture with own visions and independent development.

Alexander Shorokhoff Kandy Avantgarde – Dedicated to Vassily Kandinsky

Luxury watch maker Alexander Shorokhoff expands their Avantgarde-Line by presenting Kandy Avantgarde, a limited edition watch as homage to the legendary Russian artist Vassily Kandinsky.

The philosophy of the design by Alexander Sholokhov stayed the same: to create an extraordinary, avant-garde, fresh, modern, but likewise elegant watch for everyday use which is evoking emotions and can be worn with ease. And the most important criteria of good legibility stayed unchanged, too.

At first glance, the beholder can see that in any case the slogan of “Art on the wrist“has been completely transformed into a new design. All elements like dial, hands, case or strap have been combined with each other with a lot of care.

The manifold colours and forms do not create any chaos; they are not cluttered but give the beholder the feeling that everything is on its place; on the contrary the components create a feeling of lightness and fascination. That means that the traditions of avant-garde artists as Kandinsky, Malevitch, Hundertwasser and Gaudi are masterly continued with this watch.

For the case Alexander Shorokhov decided to use an angular form, where as the dial and the case back are round. The deep red and black colours of the dial are combined with pastel light blue or orange. At the side of the case red gold and black PVD-coated wires have been introduced in three special grooves. All these parts are not in confrontation but completing each other to a harmonious ensemble – the fascinating watch “Kandy Avantgarde”.

The movement is the flat and very reliable calibre 2892 ETA. The rotor is hand-engraved and refined. The functions are the most important for time measuring and easily to handle – hours, minutes, seconds and date. In this watch the focus is on the avant-garde design. This model is limited to only 100 pieces; most of them are already reserved.

It was the success of the model “Miss Avantgarde“, with an edition of only 500 pieces, that made dealers and partners of “Alexander Shorokhoff“ order this watch in advance.

Alexander Shorokhoff Model 63

The model “Sixtythree” by Alexander Shorokhoff with its cylindrical sapphire glass is inspired by flat watches of the sixties. The design was very popular at the time. The aim was to carry the spirit and tradition of the past into a new design, and create the flattest watch from Alexander Shorokhoff.

The stainless steel case is completed by a cylindrical sapphire glass on the front, which is complicated to manufacture, and sapphire glass on the back. The watch is water resistant up to 5 atm. Like the models from the sixties the curved dial of the 63‐model is available in dark blue, emerald green, Bordeaux red or deep black.

The rose gold plated indexes, 20, 40 and 60, are a masterpiece of precision considering that they have to compensate for the curved dial.

The fine appearance is worth the effort, and the curved glass makes the watch look more elegant and bigger than it actually is.

The rotor of the Swiss movement 2892.AS is engraved and refined in the Alexander Shorokhoff style.

Alexander Shorokhoff Newport Limited Edition

Alexander Shorokhoff has created a special edition watch collection dedicated to Newport city of United States.

Newport is a seaside city in Rhode Island, United States. It was founded in 1639 and is known as New England’s summer resort and is famous for its historic mansions. It was a major 18th‐century port city and also contains a high number of surviving buildings from the Colonial era of the United States.

Alexander Shorokhov Newport watch was specially created for the brand’s American distributor Ray Grenon.

The dial with the beautiful hand‐engraved mansion plays the leading role, as the production was very complex. It is made out of silver and was blackened, in order to get the three‐dimensional optic. The lettering over the building was inspired by the art deco/Great Gatsby style, and fits perfectly into the overall picture. The back is enameled. The lady’s watch is limited to 39 pieces, while the men’s watch is limited to 16 pieces.

Since the first cooperation was very successful, both partners decided to create a second version. The new version of the Newport watch underlines the maritime topic of the port city. Here Alexander Shorokhoff shows a beautiful color range. The big square is coated with blue metallic and the small square, where the second hand is located, is gold‐plated. The striped hands perfectly match the theme. In order to underline its uniqueness, this version is limited to only 10 pieces.

Both models are exclusively available at Ray Grenon, in Newport, Rhode Island.

Alexander Shorokhoff Heritage Line Alexander Pushkin – Squirrel and Peacock

Alexander Pushkin belongs to the greatest writers of the Russian literature. All of his great stories are told in a colourful, emotional and charismatic manner. It is only consequent that the Heritage-collection includes a watch line dedicated to Alexander Pushkin. As a tribute to the great Russian writer, the Alexander Shorokhoff watch company has created two new handmade unique watches named “Squirrel” and “Peacock” and exhibited at the fair in Basel.

Squirrel:  Dial of this watch portrays the scenery of two squirrels and the branches produced as separate elements using a CNC-machine and then engraved by hand. Working with highest precision the engraver has created the squirrels face and fur. Afterwards, the branches and leafs are covered with enamel, also by hand. Then, the dial gets an exquisite guilloching and is rhodium-plated, before the gold plated squirrels are applied. The watch houses a Russian movement (cal. Z2009) that was completely re-worked, skeletonized, hand-engraved and refined. The screws are blued. The watchmakers assembled all components into a case of stainless steel with a glass back.

Peacock: This dial is also treated on a CNC-machine and afterwards engraved by hand. In the next step a range of see-through enamel in different colours is applied. The body of the peacock shines in deep blue colour. The feathers are covered in green, yellow and blue enamel whereas the wings and the crown shine in red colour – a wonderful combination to express admiration and elation. The time can be read by the blued hands at the inner ring. This ring is also covered by enamel. The case is made of stainless steel and has sapphire glass on either side as well as a hand-engraved ring. The leather strap in blue colour is matched with the wings of the peacock. The movement powering the timepiece is cal. Z2009 is re-worked, skeletonized, hand-engraved and refined as well.

These two objects of art of the line “Alexander Pushkin“belong to the Heritage-collection and presented for the first time, at the exhibition “Baselworld 2018“.

Alexander Shorokhoff Heritage Collection – Limited Edition Watches as a Tribute to Great Russian masters and artists like Peter Tchaikovsky, Leo Tolstoi, Fedor Dostoevsky and Alexander Pushkin

Introduced in 2003, the Alexander Shorokhoff Heritage Collection of haute horlogerie timepieces pays tribute to Great Russian masters and artists like Peter Tchaikovsky, Leo Tolstoi, Fedor Dostoevsky and Alexander Pushkin.

Heritage Collection – Peter Tchaikovsky
Introduced in 2003, the first series of Heritage Collection is a tribute to Peter Tchaikovsky, one of the most important composers of the 19th century. The overture to „Romeo and Juliet“was one of his first works to show the style he became famous for. It was well received by critics. Continuing to compose and visiting Bayreuth, he realised that his reputation as a composer has already surpassed the Russian borderlines. Nowadays, his works are among the most performed music pieces, especially for sophisticated collection of watches by Alexander are assembled from a multitude of tiny, artistically refined precious pieces. This is the birth of a unique objet d’art with long lasting value.

For this watch series to commemorate the Great Russian composer, Alexander Shorokhoff selected and developed a special watch movement. In order to obtain a fine and tender sound of the alarm function it was necessary to work out a complete revision of the Swiss calibre AS 1930. Due to a spring surrounding the movement, the alarm sounds much more fully. This innovation made it possible to give the watch a see-through glass back and to have a look at the refined watch movement in all its beauty.

The watches are engraved in a very imaginative way with the main plate being refined by a special “clouds’ polish”. After these steps, the bridges are gold or rhodium plated, the screws are blue-dyed. Another highlight of the watch is the complex case consisting of two parts. When pushing the button on the side near figure “2”, the inner case part can be lifted out. This construction makes it possible to observe the movement through the sapphire glass back without taking the watch from the wrist. It is a very practical way of using it as a travellers’ watch and to place it on the bedside table imitating a small alarm clock rather a wrist watch.

A further special feature of the watch are the two crowns, arranged close to the figures „11“ and „1“, countersunk in the recess of the case edge. This emphasises the curve of the case, while protecting the crowns from damage. The crowns’ surface is embossed with the logo „AS“. The crown close to “1” serves for setting the time, the crown close to “11” is used for setting the alarm.

Heritage Collection – Leo Tolstoi
The second watch of the series is dedicated to one of the most important writers of the 19th century, the count Leo Tolstoi.

From the cradle Leo Tolstoi were given all the right conditions for a beautiful and carefree life but in his early childhood the ups and downs of his life had already started. He was born as the child of a rich Russian family of aristocrats. He was still a little child, when his father and mother died. He was raised by a female relative, on an estate of his parents in the region of Tula. By the age of 14, the intelligent boy began to study oriental languages and law. However, some years later, he stopped these studies because they were quiet boring for him. Back at the home estates, he began to deal with social problems. In contrast to this work, he adopted the easy live of „laissez-faire“ of the aristocratic Muscovites losing a lot of money in gambling.

Later on, during his military service he saw the other side of the easy world witnessing the brutality of the Caucasian and Crimea War which was shocking to him. This was one of the reasons for the subjects of his following novels – the permanent search of the sense of life. He was longing for a useful life and wishing to find his peace of mind. He wrote all intensive experiences and adventures in an obsessive manner. As a genius and great realist he succeeds to describe feelings and emotions of people with an unbelievable precision and down to the last detail. His novels made him not only a famous writer, but also a world-wide accepted philosopher.

Novels like War and peace or Anna Karenina have impressed whole generations, now as ever, and were adapted for the screens of international film productions, attracting a lot of people into the cinemas world-wide. It is Alexander’s strong wish to bow to this genius by creating a watch collection, having invested all his talents and skills as well as his greatest respect.

For the Leo Tolstoi watch collection, Alexander Shorokhoff has selected the movement cal. 3133. It was developed by the Russian watch industry and is similar to the well-known movement Valjoux 7734. The movement 3133 is made in Russia which is then dismantled, revised, hand engraved, refined and assembled by Alexander Shorokhoff watch factory. Whether skeletonizing, guilloching or engraving, all these working steps for the watch components are required the highest concentration, patience and precision. It takes many hours, sometimes even days for the engraver to work the cold steel parts into movements with “soul”, transforming each watch model into a unique piece.

Thus, the love for each detail, the excellent hand engravings and the perfect work of the watchmakers ensure the creation of a mechanical piece of high reliability and esthetical beauty, combining harmonically Russian soul and German quality.

The cases of the Tolstoi watch collection are created in a classical style and shaped in graduated well-rounded form allowing the height of the watch to be optically minimised. Each case consists of three parts: screw-type bezel, middle part and screw-type sapphire glass back. The well rounded, finely worked out pushers and the relative flat winding crown complete the timeless elegant design of this watch. Diamonds can be set either on the steel or on the gold bezel. This work is made under the microscope by high qualified master jewellers. Only of best quality diamonds are used for Alexander Shorokhoff watches.

As result of the exceptional mastery of the engravers, these chronographs present themselves a new dimension of engraving and skeletonizing. One of the models has a dial in 3-D, another shows a fine hand skeletonised dial and movement. When working out the 3-D-engraving, the main material is taken off from the dial and the remaining parts of the dial are decorated in the tradition of Russian ornamentation of the last century.

Through two gaps near „3“ and „9“ can be seen the hand skeletonised and engraved parts of the chrono movement and the calendar disc. It was decided to work out the skeletonised model with a Russian ornamental pattern, too. This decision helped to prevent removing too much material from the dials and movement, to emphasise the floral design and to give the watch more soul.

Heritage Collection – Fedor Dostoevsky
The genius Russian writer and philosopher Fedor Dostoevsky cannot be missing in the collection of „Great Russian Masters“ by „Alexander Shorokhoff“. The unusual roulette-design of this model was created by Alexander Shorokhov, in 2005. This watch remembers the gambling passion and the exciting life of Dostoevsky.

Fedor Dostoevsky is regarded by critical feature writers as the most important and best known psychologist in the world literature of the 19 century. The history of his life is a dramatic succession of ups and downs. His childhood and youth was spent in a family of aristocrats in   Moscow. After the death of his mother, he was sent to St. Petersburg where he attended the University for civil engineering. During his studies, he was already writing his first novel „Poor people“which suddenly made him famous. He joined a socio-critical group of young intellectuals dealing with literary but also political themes. At this time, a group called “Petrashevsky Circle” was in a certain sense subversive. Dostoevsky was arrested and sentenced to death for his work and involvement in this circle. The act of grace reached him, when the execution commando had already taken an aim at him. Two days later, he was exiled to the fortress Omsk, where he was spending the next years under the worst circumstances.

After his release, the Russian police was permanently spying on him. Nevertheless, he founded the magazine „The Time“, which was immediately censored, and eventually denied for its critical subject matter. This forced him to travel abroad. His restless way led him via Milan, Florence, Dresden and Prague finally back to St. Petersburg where he was working as an editor for a conservative magazine. Meanwhile, his life has not more been influenced by existential anxiety.

However, his epilepsy was causing him no end of trouble. He had to go to a health resort in Germany. It is during this time, he is mentioned in one breath by the famous Tolstoi. Once he was asked to make a speech at the opening ceremony of a „Pushkin“ statue. The audience was listening enthusiastically. Dostoevsky enjoyed this performance and continued reading, but like it happened often in his life, the up was following by the next down. A conflict with his sister about the family inheritance wore him down and he died in 1881. Despite of all bad blows Dostoevsky created great world literature like the novels „The Brothers Karamazov“, „The Gambler“, „The Idiot“ and others. Alexander would like to erect a very personal monument to him through the „Dostoevsky“- watch collection.

For this watch collection, Alexander Shorokhoff has used two different watch movements – the hand winding calibre 3105 AS and the automatic movement cal. 9060 Soprod. Both movements are dismantled and revised by „Alexander-Shorokhoff“watch factory. The bridges are engraved, the wheels are polished or guilloched, and the screws are blue-dyed. At last, all components are carefully re-assembled.

When developing the design, Alexander was inspired above all by the gambling passion and the unusual life of this great philosopher and writer. All models of this series feature modern yet classical cases with softly rounded off edges. Near the „12“ a flexible band connector is mounted at the upper side of the case in perfect shape, reminiscent of the 19th century style, serving to fix the croco leather strap. At this place was also arranged the winding crown, completing the harmonic and symmetric overall picture of this watch. The design of the dials is dedicated to the themes of the writer’s novels.

The hand winding model was created with a dial representing roulette with 36 figures and the green “zero” in the middle. The automatic watch features the gamble „Black Jack“ and with the four corners engraved with the symbols of the four suits – spades, diamonds, hearts and clubs while the display of power reserve shows the result of the card playing.

The „Dostoevsky“watch family also offers chronograph models. The case has the same harmonic shape as the other models with hand winding movements. Only the lugs are separately manufactured and then attached to the inside of the watch case. This facilitates brushing and polishing of the middle case parts.

Thanks to a well-thought-out lever construction the pushers could be arranged on the case in a vertical position. The roulette ring on the case back and the dial are meant to remind of the vile human craving for gamble, which Dostoevsky has portrayed and treated in a profound philosophical manner in his novels.

Heritage Collection – Alexander Pushkin
His father descended from one of the ancient Russian noble dynasties. His mother was the granddaughter of an Eritrean from East Africa, who was living at the court of tsar Peter the Great. Evidently, the little Sasha inherited the best of both continents and cultures. In an instant, he was able to connect in his novels ease with profundity. Pushkin’s parents were regularly visited by the best-known poets of the time. Already as a child, at Pushkin’s disposal was an extensive library. In spite of his elitist privileges he always remained a very modest and people-oriented man. He listened to his nurse tell him folk tales and aphorisms and sing him songs of the Russian people.

As a young man, Pushkin attended a lyceum in the Tsars Village, which nowadays bears his name. After having published his first poems and his examination, he became member of the Council for Foreign Affairs. As a free thinker he was writing besides a large series of poems, political scandalous epigrams too. Consequently, he was punished and transferred to Youth Russia.

From there he was travelling around the country. During his journeys, he picked up the subjects for his literary work. In the same easily and brilliantly manner he was writing about the life of the aristocrats as well as about the troubles of the poor people. In his novels and poems he presents himself as a passionate writer dealing with mockery and self-irony about the eternal questions of life.

One and a half century ago, he succeeded to express his thoughts so clearly and passionately that his works are fascinating modern people to this date. His death came as spectacularly as was his life. In order to save the honour of his wife, Pushkin was fighting a duel against the Frenchman d‘ Anthès, guardsman of the Tsar. He was as a result wounded and died of his injuries. The 2009 inauguration of the monument of Pushkin in capital of Eritrea, Asmara was very proud moment for all Eritreans and Africans which further demonstrated his strong effect on the people of the region and the legacy he left behind. For Alexander Shorokhov he stays forever alive. The beauty of his words and the clearness of his thoughts were inspiring Alexander Shorokhov to translate these qualities into a brand new watch collection.

The first ladies collection by Alexander is dedicated to Alexander Pushkin. This is not by accident. Pushkin was a genius word master and could deeply affect people with a few words, what made him to the most loved poet of the society and women in particular. The filigree skeletonizing of the movement, the handmade engravings, the fine guilloching of the dial and the masterly set diamonds at the bezel and the inner dial ring transmit a feeling of feminine tenderness and perfect form like in Pushkin’s poetry.

The back side of this watch is decorated with an elegant hand engraved outer ring. This ring can be decorated with the name of the watch owner, giving the watch a personal touch. The watch is limited to 25 pieces. Anyway, all „Alexander Pushkin“- watch models feature elegant dials in a modern yet classical style. They are equipped with hand engraved or automatic movements, sapphire glass on both sides and also a ring to create a manual engraving on the case back.

Another new creation is an automatic watch featuring an enamelled dial. The poet Alexander Pushkin was fond of fairy tales since his childhood and heard them often from his grandma. Later he wrote a great number of suspenseful and poetic fairy tales. The motif gracing the enamelled dial of this watch was chosen accordingly: a frog, often occurring in fairy tales as central figure and later transforming into a beautiful prince or princess. The watch has a Swiss automatic movement 2000-1.ETA. A hand engraved silver or gold element on the rotor lends this watch a more romantic appearance. The frog dial is also available as guilloched version.

Customised Watches
On request, Alexander Shorokhoff can create the design of a skeleton watch featuring your initials on the dial. This work requires a special skill by the engraver, steady hands and of course, a great deal of time and patience. On average around three months is required to design this type of watch, to skeletonise the dial and the movement, to engrave and refine it’s parts, finally to assemble all parts and perform a trial run.

These exclusive watches can be passed on from generation to generation and become a precious family heirloom. Another occasion for requesting such a unique watch creation which can be made in steel, silver, gold or platinum, is to present as extraordinary gift to friends, relatives or colleagues. It is suitable for a wedding gift, to celebrate an anniversary or other important milestones in someone’s life. Production 1 of 1 will be engraved on the case edge and confirms that this watch model is the only one in the world.

Alexander Shorokhoff Watches

The Alexander Shorokhoff watch manufacturer in Alzenau was founded by the German-Russian entrepreneur Alexander Shorokhov. His watch design is polarising, provoking, and generating emotions. He was inspired by the artists of the European and Russian Avantgarde, which have changed art, architecture and design thoroughly. The AVANTGARDE collection by the manufacturer Alexander Shorokhoff is made for people to whom provocation means a good challenge; deciding to buy an AVANTGARDE watch means deciding for individualism in the broadly standardised watch market.

Alexander Shorokhov
Born in Moscow in 1960, the young engineer leaves for Germany in the beginning of the nineties. Shortly afterwards he took over the distribution of the Russian watch company “Poljot”. In 2002, he founded his own manufacturer in the Bavarian town of Alzenau. Being well rooted in his new hometown, he lives out his curiosity about foreign countries and cultures. Today the Alexander Shorokhoff watch manufacturer is a globally operating company and ready for setting new course in the well-established watch market.

It was in 2003, when the production of mechanical watches of the brand Alexander Shrokhoff has been started in the watch manufacturer near the castle of Alzenau. The collections HERITAGES and AVANTGARDE are representing an exceptional German-Russian cosmos originated in the biography of Alexander Shorokhov and his ambitions in quality, workmanship and design, precision and reliability. Thanks to this creative approach to the design of the watches, the excellent engravings and the top craftsmanship, nowadays the manufacturer is attracting attention all over the world.

The production steps in the manufacturer are going like clockwork. The engravings by hand, the procedure of refining, adjustment, assembling and testing are exclusively carried out by experienced watch masters. Each watch maker is responsible for the watches assembled by him, from the beginning until the final checking. Only after the final adjustment, each watch gets a warranty certificate with the watchmaker’s initials and the reference or limitation number in it and can be delivered to specialized shops and jewellers all over the world. In this way, every watch becomes a unique objet d’art.

HERITAGE Collection
The traditional HERITAGE collection by Alexander Shorokhoff with its watch models Leo Tolstoi, Alexander Pushkin, Peter Tchaikovsky and Fedor Dostoevsky is homage to these famous Russian artists.

The design of these watches is made in correspondence to the special character of these artists, doing justice to the genius of Dostoevsky, the power of Tolstoy, the poetry of Pushkin. Due to the loving and meticulously elaborated details every watch becomes a special work of art. So, the model Alexander Pushkin has a little frog on the dial – right out of one of Pushkin’s fairy tales. The compulsive gambling of Dostoevsky is the theme of the watches bearing his name and showed by the suits on the dials and also by the masterly made engravings of the watch movements. HERITAGE watches are mechanical objets d’art with their own aesthetical style – masterpieces of watch making. The watches are permanently checked, technical novelties and complication added.

AVANTGARDE Collection
Tradition meets creativity, non-conformism and avant-garde. The watches of the Alexander Shorokhoff watch manufacturer are special. The creative designer of the company is the German-Russian entrepreneur Alexander Shorokhov, founder and owner of the company with the same name.

The Alexander Shorokhoff watch manufacturer has been established 20 years ago, in the Bavarian town of Alzenau. Besides the traditional HERITAGE watch collection, Mr Shorokhov has created, in 2011, the young line “AVANTGARDE” following a new particular way. Inspirations to him were business trips to the Middle East, meetings with people and several paintings. His approach to the development of new watches is similar to that of an artist or fashion designer. The line AVANTGARDE features the unusual views of its designer and the provocative appearance of the watches.

The creative process of Mr Shorokhov beginning with the idea and conception until the completion of a new watch model can be described with the statement of Hussein Chalayan, conceptioner and crossover artist who is torn between fashion and art and well-known for his break with all conventions in his fashion design: he says, that he is making ideas, not fashion. This can be applied to Alexander Shorokhov, too. His conceptions are also beyond all ordinary ways and hit the spirit of today.

For dials like the watch model Miss Avantgarde is equipped with, the structure is broken off and replaced by multi-coloured turbulent painting. Unusual forms are following their traditional function, at the same time, producing new perspectives of viewing and, at first impression, even of absurdity.

Shorokhov is combining intense patterns with each other, inspired by the Russian avant-garde school of art; he reduces the appliqués and revives forgotten traditions by applying the figure 60 remembering to its meaning in ancient time measurement systems. Similarly to such well-known contemporary fashion designers like McQueen, Chalayan or Beirendonck, Shorokhov is creating risky and provoking designs. His avantgarde approach to the design creation is radical and producing – in the same way as in fashion – an area of projection and visualization of individuality. He gives special emphasis upon the esthetical and emotional sides of the AVANTGARDE collection line.

Watches as well as clothes are subject of an intensive forming and creation process. In the same manner as fashion is notably going beyond its mere purpose, the Shorokhoff-watches surpass their usual function of timekeeping. They have not only practical value, are not only important for the image of their owners, but should underline their character. The designer considers his watches as integrated in an entire system of artwork perceiving the individuality of the watch owner in context with his clothes and the watch. He relies on the sense of style of his customers and their feel for good design and quality.

Chronology

1991: Alexander Shorokhov was part of a group of 20 young, talented graduates chosen by then president of the Soviet Union, Michail Gorbatchov, and sent to Germany in order to broaden knowledge of the free market. The young managers were instructed by the ministry of economic affairs of Hessen, the Chamber of Commerce in Frankfurt and other companies like Mercedes, Siemens, the railway Deutsche Bahn AG. They learned and gathered experience in these firms. After this studies, Shorokhov‘s passion for architecture, mechanics and esthetical design led him to the art of high end watchmaking.

1992: Alexander Shorokhov gained a foothold in Western Europe and Russia. The Russian industry presented him several offers for working. He selected the First Moscow Watch Factory and established an international sale service in West Europe distributing watches of the Russian brand Poljot. For this propose, he founded the Poljot-V GmbH in September 1992 in Frankfurt, and after a short time he succeeded to extend it to other countries world-wide. In that year, the young company of Alexander Shorokhov became member of the German Association of Watch Industry in order to be better acquainted with the country, its industries, technologies and conditions. Regardless of several changes in the structure, responsibility and staff of this association – the “Alexander Shorokhoff Watch Manufacturer” remained true to its principles, for all the following years.

1993: The first presentation of Poljot watches at an international watch exhibition “INHORGENTA” in Munich caused a stir in Germany. Among the multitude of Swiss made watches, the Russian watches of the “Poljot-V GmbH” drew the attention of the visitors. Shorokhov’s decision to make a name for this brand in Germany was right and giving him the possibility to go on a risky way of distribution – only through German jewellers and specialised watch shops. Step by step, Alexander Shorokhov succeeded in gaining more than 100 shops, during the first year of distribution.

1994: Inspired from the success of sale of Poljot watches, Alexander Shorokhov decided to produce mechanical watches under his own brand based on his own standard for workmanship, quality and design. Together with a new team of specialised watchmakers he opened a little workshop, developing in that time his talent for creating design; and launched his own collection on the market, under the name Poljot-International. Basilika was the name of the first model of the new brand; later the same designation given to his second own watch brand.

1996: For the first time, Alexander Shorokhov presented his collection at the International Watch Exhibition in Basel. A. Shorokhov extended the circle of distributors of his watches again. He increased his sales staff, and employed new watch makers, too. He directed his attention mainly to the quality of his watches inventing a special quality system – from assembling until final control.

1997: Launched the golden chronograph „Nicolai-II“, which comprises the whole obsession of the AS-watch manufacturer. This model is equipped with a re-worked, optimised movement. The lovely decorated watch dial shows a little tsars crown with a tiny ruby jewel. This watch was dedicated to the last Russian tsar „Nicolai-II“and immediately, became one of the most exclusive collector’s items. These gold watches by Alexander Shorokhov were gaining great popularity especially in Russia and the USA. Consequently, the distribution net of the “Poljot-International” watches was extended, in that year, to Russia and the USA.

1998: Alexander Shorokhov celebrated 850th anniversary of Moscow by creating a special jubilee edition golden ladies watch. This exclusive model is decorated with 211 hand set diamonds and 7 sapphires. At a watch exhibition in Vienna, this high valued objet d’art was elected in the category of elegant ladies watches as one of the best watches of the year. While creating this watch and trying to keep the quality of diamond setting at the highest level, Alexander Shorokhov begins a co-operation with an experienced master of jewellery and diamond setting in Antwerp, Mr. Alexandre Sidorov, who has also founded his own specialised school.

1999: Alexander Shorokhov developed the”Millennium-watch” for the Russian Church. One of these watches was handled out to the Russian Patriarch Alexey II by Alexander Shorokhov himself, during a solemn ceremony in Russia. This was the first time of realisation of Shorokhov’s idea to create watches on special occasions and jubilees and for special personalities. In that year, the watch distribution was extended to Asia. The company gets new strong business partners in Hong Kong, Singapore and sometimes later, also in Japan. In that year, especially the watch model “Kirovskie“, representing a replica of a very big (43,0 mm) watch model of the forties with “antique” cramps for strap fixation and a dial in this old style, was going down well at the market. The watch movement of the “Kirovskie“ has been decorated by a special “clouds polishing“and blue-dyed screws.

2000:  For the 70th birthday of Michail Gorbatchov, Alexander Shorokhov created a jubilee watch in limited edition. The fine guilloched dial with the Russian and the Soviet flags is symbolising the transformation of the USSR into the Russian Federation. With this watch the company and its watch brand have shown their respect for this big turn in the history of Russia. Later, the watch “Gorbatchov“has been given as a present by Alexander Shorokhov also to members of the government of different other countries. In that year, a lot of exclusive “Poljot-International” watch models were launched at the market: “Tsars of Russia“, “Gagarin-2000“, “Simple Round“, “Maxim“ and others. The quality of the watches is very appreciated by the distributors and watch collectors; the new system of quality control is working smoothly. The watch return rate is about 3%.

2001: The success demands tribute: the departments of assembling, after-sales service and sale had to be modernised and enlarged. For that purpose, Alexander Shorokhov and his team are moving to a new more spacious domicile. The picturesque Alzenau, a little 600 years old town in the neighbourhood of lakes and forest, near the city of Frankfurt, becomes the new home town of Alexander Shorokhov. The company received generous support on the part of the town mayor, Mr. Walter Scharwies. Here in Alzenau, was born the idea to introduce a new high valued watch brand. It started with the preparation of the documents for the national and international registration of the brand Alexander Shorokhoff.

2002: The brand „Alexander Shorokhoff“was enrolled in register of the “Office of intellectual property” and patented. The successful sale of the middle-price level-collection “Poljot-International“ were reassuring and confirming Alexander Shorokhov to put his visions of perfection, high precision mechanics and typical design into practice. He employed high qualified engravers in order to “conquer” together with his team the market of the premium watches putting their heart, soul and creativity in this work. First he had the plan to continue the rich craftsman’s tradition of Russia inherent in the creations of Fabergé and Gabu or in the elitist products by Smirnoff and Davidoff; but his watches “Alexander Shorokhoff” should be also dedicated to such great Russian masters and artists like Peter Tchaikovsky, Leo Tolstoi or Fedor Dostoevsky.

2003: Peter Tchaikovsky and his music fascinate and impress a lot of people world-wide. This fact inspired Alexander Shorokhov to create the first watch of the “Heritage” collection under the name of “Peter Tchaikovsky“. For these watches, all the treatments of the watch movements like engraving, guilloching or skeletonizing are handmade with highest concentration, accuracy and professionalism by the watchmakers and engravers of the ASUM. The main plate gets a special “cloud polishing”, the bridges are gold or rhodium plated, the screws are blue-dyed. The movements are very carefully finished step by step assembled and adjusted. In that year, the AS watches was presented, for the first time, at the international watch fair “Baselworld” where they have won a lot of laurels by the specialists and watch collectors. The watch model “Moscow Nights“ by “Poljot-International“ is placed ninth in the competition „Goldene Unruh“ of the specialised magazine “Uhrenmagazin” in the price category until 500,- EUR.

2004: The second watch of the series „Heritage“Alexander Shorokhov has dedicated to one of the most important writers of the 19th century, the count Leo Tolstoi. The novels by Tolstoi are classic and the dedicated to him watches have been made in the same classical style. The watch cases have got a traditional, round and graduated shape. A reliable and wonderful looking mechanical movement, unifying Russian soul with German quality to a harmonic overall picture – this was the result of working with love for details and perfection and creating excellent manual engravings.

2005: The genius Russian writer and philosopher Fedor Dostoevsky cannot be missing in the collection of „Great Russian Masters“ by „Alexander Shorokhoff“. The unusual roulette-design of this model was created by Alexander Shorokhov, in 2005. This watch remembers the gambling passion and the exciting life of Dostoevsky.

2006: The art of engraving has achieved a high level at the ASUM. There have been created completely skeletonised top watch models for special watch lovers. It takes an engraver about 10 days to complete the skeletonizing or engraving of such a particular watch. To skeletonise the whole movement means creating a new one and a new dial, too. The hand winding watches of this line are characterised by their esthetical appearance and filigree skeletonizing. In that year, the “Tchaikovsky“ watch „Swan Lake“ became a real museum exhibit. The museum is located in the town of Klin, near Moscow. Here was Peter Tchaikovsky’s domicile. In 2006, Alexander Shorokhov handled out to the director of the local museum one of his “Tchaikovsky“watches.

2008: Kostya Tszyu, a Russian sportsman living in Australia and several times world champion in half welterweight, is very popular and this not only because of its good performances in sports but also his likeable and modest behaviour. Alexander Shorokhov honoured this great boxer by a personal watch bearing his name.

2009: Alexej Leonov was the first man of the world leaving his space ship and floating in the open space. He was the commander of the rocket Voshod and leader of the Russian-American mission Soyuz-Apollo-Mission. Alexander Shorokhov and Alexej Leonov met each other for the first time in 2007, in Moscow, and liked each other instantly. The result of this meeting was an exceptional watch named Soyuz-Apollo. This watch was produced in limited edition of 500 pieces and was sold out, after a very short time.

2010: The beautiful town of Alzenau with its green environs in the neighbourhood of Frankfurt became the new home town of Alexander Shorokhov. On the occasion of the 610th anniversary of the town, he created a high-valued watch “Alzenau“ in limited edition impressing his gratitude for the friendly welcome.

2011: The watches of the traditional “Heritage-collection“belong without any doubt to the most exclusive watches of the premium class. Alexander Shorokhov launched Avantgarde-collection targeted to a younger and wider customer range – however, without giving up his philosophy of handcrafted obsessions. Every watch of the Avantgarde collection is a unique piece with a striking particular design and a mechanical movement of high precision and refined by meticulously craftsmanship. The watches with the most striking, avant-garde design, like the models Miss Avantgarde or Watch Dandy have already caused a large attention of the press, the specialists and the watch lovers. The German chess master, Niclas Huschenbeth was selected as ambassador of the new Avantgarde watch line.

2012: Alexander Shorokhov manufacturer celebrated 20th anniversary and on this occasion, a new attractive jubilee watch model „Stripes“in limited edition and with double time display created.

Alexander Shorokhoff Kandy Avantgarde – Tribute to Vassily Kandinsky

Alzenau, Germany based luxury watch manufacture Alexander Shorokhoff pays tribute to the Russian avant-gardist Vassily Kandinsky by presenting a new timepiece from its Avantgarde series. A successor of “Miss Avantgarde” – the best seller of the Avantgarde-line, the new watch will be unveiled at the famous jewellery and watch fair Baselworld 2018.

The philosophy of the design by Alexander Shorokhov stayed the same: to create an extraordinary, avant-garde, fresh, modern, but likewise elegant watch for everyday use which is evoking emotions and can be worn with ease. And the most important criteria of good legibility stayed unchanged, too.

At first glance, the beholder can see that in any case the slogan of “Art on the wrist“ has been completely transformed into a new design. All elements like dial, hands, case or strap have been combined with each other with a lot of care. The manifold colours and forms do not create any chaos; they are not cluttered but give the beholder the feeling that everything is on its place; on the contrary the components create a feeling of lightness and fascination. It means that the traditions of avant-garde artists as Kandinsky, Malevitch, Hundertwasser and Gaudi are masterly continued with this watch.

For the case Alexander Shorokhov decided to use an angular form, where as the dial and the case back are round. The deep red and black colours of the dial are combined with pastel light blue or orange. At the side of the case red gold and black PVD-coated wires have been introduced in three special grooves. All these parts are not in confrontation but completing each other to a harmonious ensemble – the fascinating watch “Kandy Avantgarde”.The movement is the flat and very reliable calibre 2892 ETA. The rotor is hand-engraved and refined. The functions are the most important for time measuring and easily to handle – hours, minutes, seconds and date. In this watch the focus is on the avant-garde design.

This model is limited to only 100 pieces; most of them are already reserved.

ALEXANDER SHOROKHOFF AVANTGARDE Crazy Hands Limited Edition

German watch maker Alexander Shorokhoff unveils Crazy Hands, a new watch model of the AVANTGARDE collection featuring provocative hands as the dominating element.

Clear lines, circles and stripes strike on intensive yellow and red colours standing out against the unobtrusive colour of the dial. Very rarely used in the watch industry, the yellow colour is a design element for watches of the premium class. Alexander Shorokhov, designer und founder of the manufacturer is disregarding this tradition and created this watch by quoting art-elements of Kazimir Malevich, who is regarded as icon of the Russian Avantgarde, in the early 20th century.

A massive stainless steel case with diameter of 46,5 mm and a height of 11,5 mm borders a black dial which is covered by the embossed characters of the word “AVANTGARDE“ . The figures “60“, “20“ and “40“ dominate the dial expressing a new meaning of time. A luminous outer scale makes it easy to read the time. This effect is reinforced by the luminous points near “3”, “6” and “9”. The watch still has another special feature: when looking at the case from the side, the luminous figures cannot be seen; embossed characters “AVANTGARDE” are emerging similar to a hologram instead.

The hand winding movement 2609.AS can be admired through the sapphire glass back of the case. Hand engraved bridges, the set AS-logo, blue-dyed screws and the rose gold plating are refining the movement achieving premium quality -“Avantgarde to Luxury“.

Alexander Shorokhoff “Peter Tchaikovsky Big Alarm”

This year, German watch maker Alexander Shorokhoff enriches their classic HERITAGE collection with a new model “Peter Tchaikovsky Big Alarm“. Unveiled at Basel world 2012, this new model is a modified version of existing “Peter Tchaikovsky timepiece”. The new variation, Peter Tchaikovsky Big Alarm features an additional alarm function.

The new model features an elegant, classy design and the imaginative details. The stainless steel case of 40 mm diameter and with height of 11,5 mm consists of two parts and can be opened. Pushing at the button close to “2” the inner part can be lifted off with help of a clasp-mechanism and the watch can be put up and placed on a table. With one handling the wrist watch transformed into a practicable travellers‘ alarm clock.

The alarm function can be set with the help of a turning disk at the dial. When lifting out the inner case part, the view at the refined mechanical movement (cal. 2612.AS) will get free through the sapphire glass back.

The refined and covered by special “cloud polishing” main plate is completing the complex over-all picture. Movement beauty is enhanced by handmade engravings of high artistic level. The bridges are gold or rhodium plated, the screws are blue-dyed. The watch has a water resistant of 3 atm. This model is available with leather straps in different colours and with normal steel buckles

Alexander Shorokhov “Watch Dandy”

“Watch Dandy” is a new masculine watch model by Alexander Shorokhov dedicated to modern gentlemen, and is distinguished by a dial done without any Colour. The result is an exciting contrast to the skilfully decorated movement of this automatic timepiece

Curved, silver graphic elements are drawn progressive and, at the same time, elegantly across the black dial. The typical of all AVANTGARDE models dominant figure “60” was displayed at the highest point of the dial. Both the “60” and the hands are made in golden colour, representing together with the silver appliqués a daring and inconvenient combination.

The case of the model „Watch Dandy“ has a diameter of 43,5 mm and is made of stainless steel the as well as the engraved case back which is fixed by seven screws. The vaulted top sapphire glass protects the precious inner part of the watch and guarantees a water resistance of 5 atm. The automatic movement calibre 2824.AS is equipped with a hand engraved refined rotor. A genuine leather strap with normal buckle holds the gem at its owner’s wrist. The “Watch Dandy” comes in a limited edition of 168 pieces of the limited edition and available in Germany.

Alexander Shorokhov “New Portuguese”

The Alexander Shorokhoff AVANTGARDE family welcomes a new member:  “New Portuguese”, a model launched this year to commemorate the country of seafarers and discoverers. The country and the inhabitants of Portugal inspired the watch maker to create the watch “New Portuguese”. His impressions during the journey to the land of seafarers and discoverers, made the way for this new chronograph model that combines architectonic patterns with sportive nonchalance.

Alexander Shorokhov converts in this watch countless impressions and emotions transforming them into a clear, structured design. A perfectly guilloched silver dial forms the background for the unusually shaped and placed figures. Every figure was separately defined. The white-silver coloration is very unobtrusive. The number “60” as main element of the AVANTGARDE style stands apparently out of the dial. The hands of the “New Portuguese” are coloured in sparkling ultra navy blue.

The watch movement of the mechanical chronograph (cal. 3133.AS) features a refined balance bridge as exceptionally attractive detail with regard to mechanics and appearance. The high gloss hand engraved and gold plated bridges still increase this effect.

The second available version features an automatic movement (chrono 2030.DD by Dubois Depraz) with hand engraved rotor. The solid, brushed and polished stainless steel case with diameter of 43,5 mm presents the frame of the model with glass back cover for a interesting view at the inner life of the watch movement. The anti-reflective and vaulted sapphire glass and the cut and polished bezel protect it of damage. The winding crown with stamped logo and the pushers are made of solid steel. The water resistance of the “New Portuguese” is 5 atm.

By creating the “New Portuguese” Alexander Shorokhov continues a classical watch series of the early 70s, the legendary “Portugieser“ presenting an independent reinterpretation of the chronograph.

Alexander Shorokhoff Leo Tolstoy Collection : Graf Skeleton Watch

The new skeletonised watch “Graf” of the series “Leo Tolstoy“ is decorated with an authentic Russian ornament. The master craftsman has removed only a small amount of material in order to better exhibit the floral motifs and to “put more soul” into the watch.

It takes roughly 10 days to create only one dial and movement following this procedure. All of the labour, such as engraving, guilloching and skeletonising, are performed by hand, requiring the highest concentration, accuracy and professionalism. After the completion of this stage, the movements are very carefully assembled – step by step – and adjusted to achieve precision. The ensuing extended trial run takes 500 hours and guarantees the watches’ singular reliability. Each watch receives its own name and the qualitative attribute “Made in Germany”.

Alexander Shorokhoff Fedor Dostoevsky Collection New Model – “Casino by Day and by Night“ Chronograph

The “Fedor Dostoevsky“ watch series will be continued by watch manufacturer “Alexander Shorokhoff“ and presented at the “Baselworld“ 2010 watch fair in Basel, Switzerland. One new member of the family of hand-winding and automatic watches is the chronograph “Casino by Day and by Night“.

The watch is going to retain its contours but show some constructional improvements. The case lugs are going to be manufactured separately and then attached by screws to the inside of the case. The facilitates brushing of the middle case parts. A complicate lever construction allows for the pushers to be arranged in a vertical position on the case. However, the spotlight is taken – as in all other “Alexander Shorokhoff”-watches – by the movement. Through a sapphire glass back the hand-engraved bridges, blue-dyed screws and all the finely polished levers present their special appeal.

The roulette ring on the case back and the dial are meant to remind – as do the other Dostoevsky watch designs – of the vile human craving for gamble, which Dostoevsky has portrayed wonderfully and treated in a profound philosophical manner in his novels. The price for this new creation is going to be 4500,- EUR.
