Blancpain X Swatch Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms Collection

To mark the 70th anniversary of the Fifty Fathoms, Swiss luxury watch brand Blancpain in collaboration with Swatch presents Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms, a mischievous and surprising version of its iconic diving watch.

This range is comprised of five distinct models – Antarctic, Artic, Atlantic, Indian and Pacific – as a tribute to our oceans. The new Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms Collection also celebrates Blancpain’s commitment towards preserving and safeguarding the five oceans of our planet.

This non-limited series combines the best of both brands with innovative, bioceramic, water-resistant timepieces and a mechanical movement with a 90-hour power reserve.

These five Blancpain X Swatch models are made from bioceramic, a unique and patented blend of two-thirds ceramic and one-third biomaterials derived from castor oil.

Each of them boasts many of the features and characteristics of the iconic Fifty Fathoms, as well as nods to the Swatch Scuba collection.

The main Fifty Fathoms attributes present in these watches include the typical case, its unidirectional rotating bezel to measure the duration of the dive as well as its self-winding movement protected from magnetic fields – in this instance the SISTEM51 equipped with the Nivachron™ antimagnetic balance spring.

The Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms watch is water-resistant to a depth of 91 metres – corresponding to exactly 50 fathoms, a nautical unit of depth. The outer left-side of the bio-ceramic case is inscribed with the brand name Swatch.

The new collection of five watches, featuring colours never yet seen on the original Fifty Fathoms, lends a strong playful touch to Blancpain’s iconic diver’s watch.

The color theme of each model is inspired by Nudibranchs, a group of soft-bodied marine gastropod molluscs. These mysterious marine creatures are known for their extraordinary colours and striking forms.

All the five watches feature metal dials with gradient shade matching the overall theme of each version. Among them, Arctic and Antarctic ocean models do not display the date. The remaining three versions come with a date window at 3o’clock.

Inspired by a historic Fifty Fathoms watch, the Arctic model displays the NO RADIATIONS logo at 6 o’clock. The dial of the Antarctic version highlights the iconic moisture indicator design at 6H with SCUBA inscription.

The Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Ocean models have inscriptions SCUBA, fifty fathoms and 91m/ 300ft at 6H.

The hands and hour markers of the dial as well as the external bezel-markings are treated with Grade A Super-LumiNova® for enhancing the visibility.

Each model features the shared Blancpain X Swatch logos on the dial and crown. The straps are made from recycled fishing nets removed from the ocean floor.

The iconic SISTEM51 mechanical self-winding calibre can be admired through the exhibition case-back. As the name suggests, this movement comprises 51 parts, including 19 jewels.

The artistic work (digital print) employed on the rear side of movement takes inspiration from one of the five nudibranchs found in each of the five Oceans.

Depending upon the version, the winding rotor of each timepiece boasts an artwork illustrating any of the five distinct nudibranchs: Tritoniella Belli, Dendronotus Frondosus, Glaucus Atlanticus, Nembrotha Kubaryana or Chromodoris Kuiteri.

The bio-ceramic ring of the case-back spotlights the inscriptions: PASSION FOR DIVING – LICENCE TO EXPLORE – OCEAN BREATH – PROTECT WHAT YOU LOVE and IMMERSE YOURSELF.
