King Seiko New Models SJE089 and SJE091

Seiko presents two new models (references SJE089 and SJE091) of its modern King Seiko watch.

In 2022, Seiko has revived the King Seiko collection by introducing modern reinterpretations of the iconic King Seiko KSK watch of 1965.

The 1965’s KSK, the most popular King Seiko model, was known for its emblematic appeal thanks to its sharp, angular case and high functionality. Today, Seiko introduces two new timepieces inspired by the classic KSK. They houses the automatic slimline Caliber 6L35. This marks the movement’s first appearance in the main King Seiko collection. This 26 jewel calibre offers a power reserve of 45 hours.

King Seiko SJE089 (SJE089J1)/ JDM SDKA005

Dressed in 38.6mm diameter and 10.7mm thick cases in stainless steel, the new references are thinner than the manually-wound vintage KSK watch. Effectively capturing the refinement of the original 1965 KSK watch, these models have angular cases with a flat dial featuring faceted hands.

The first King Seiko model (reference SJE089) comes with a silver-colored with a new sunray finishing technique that endows the watch with a finish more understated and delicate than previous KSK-based creations, resulting in a look that is even closer to the original.

The second model, King Seiko SJE091, features a sophisticated dial in a new shade of black created especially to harmonize with the new case design.

King Seiko SJE091 (SJE091J1)
King Seiko SJE091 (SJE091J1)/ JDM SDKA007

On the black dial, the hands have a fine hairline finish that heightens the level of contrast with the dial’s dark surface and enhances legibility.

These new King Seiko watches stand out with refined case design enhanced with slimmer lugs. They are faceted, with large, flat planes and sharp angles. The surfaces are polished to achieve a distortion-free, mirror finish.

A box-shaped sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on the inner surface delivers high legibility from any angle. Not only are the new watches slimmer than the previous limited-edition King Seiko watches that also used the 6L35 movement, but they are also 0.2mm thinner than the original King Seiko KSK, despite having automatic winding and a date window.

Fitted on stainless steel bracelets, both watches will be available at the Seiko Boutiques and select retail stores worldwide from July 2023.

Aquastar 2023 Model 60

Swiss diving watch specialist Aquastar presents Model 60, a new 37mm model that pays tribute to the brand’s earliest traditions in adventure and exploration activities. This timepiece is the re-edition of the Aquastar Model 60 from 1957.

Aquastar 2023 Model 60 diving watch

On 23rd January in 1960 when US Navy Lieutenant Don Walsh, wearing an original Model 60, and co-pilot Jacques Piccard, made a pioneering journey to the bottom of the Challenger Deep, aboard the bathyscaphe Trieste to a record-breaking depth of 10,916 meters (35,814 feet).

Walsh’s Model 60 is recognized as Aquastar’s inaugural tool watch housing the brand’s first major innovation – a friction ring in the rotating bezel to prevent accidental rotations. Devised and originally patented by Aquastar, this safety mechanism would later become a standard feature of dive watches.

Aquastar 2023 Model 60 diving watch

In the brand’s early years, Aquastar also produced a wide range of nautical instruments, like compasses and analog depth gauges, many of which could be worn in conjunction with an Aquastar watch to create a singular timekeeping and navigational instrument for the wrist.

Thanks to this expertise, Aquastar turned out to be a perfect choice for mariners, professional divers, and ocean conservationists during the sixties and seventies.

The 2023 Model 60 pays tribute to this special era, with a new oil-filled compass which can be secured to the watch head using the tail end of a Tropic or NATO-style pass-through strap at 6:00.

The new Aquastar 2023 Model 60 has a stainless steel case with a Swiss-made La Joux-Perret G100 automatic movement beating inside it. It has a black dial with ecru-colored SuperLuminova.

Aquastar 2023 Model 60

Fitted with domed sapphire crystal glass, unidirectional rotating bezel and stainless steel case-back, this diver is water-resistant up to 200 meters.

Zenith Defy Skyline and Defy Skyline Skeleton Black Ceramic Models

Swiss luxury watch brand Zenith presents new black ceramic version of the DEFY Skyline and DEFY Skyline Skeleton models.

The DEFY Skyline collection was introduced in 2022 as the modern successor to the ZENITH DEFY line of rugged and boldly designed wristwatches from 1969. Now the brand enhances this range by introducing new black ceramic editions of the DEFY Skyline and DEFY Skyline Skeleton watches. Even the integrated bracelet that follows the contours of the case is crafted in black ceramic.

ZENITH Defy Skyline Black Ceramic

A black patterned rubber strap with a blackened steel folding clasp is also included, and swapping between it and the ceramic bracelet is effortless using the quick strap-change mechanism integrated directly in the case back.

The DEFY Skyline Ceramic features a black galvanic dial with a sunray finish, shimmering as the light hits its surface. The entire dial features a geometric pattern, consisting of the ZENITH four-pointed stars that historically featured prominently on the case backs of vintage DEFY references as a “double Z”.

Evoking the starry night sky, the blackened star-shaped sunken into the dial feature sharp inward facets, with different angles catching light.

ZENITH Defy Skyline Black Ceramic

For the DEFY Skyline Skeleton Ceramic, the open dial features a blackened large central four-pointed star element, revealing the skeleton movement with black bridges and main plate.

ZENITH Defy Skyline Black Ceramic Skeleton

An exceptional feat, the Manufacture’s engineers successfully incorporated the shape of the open dial into the skeletonisation of the movement’s bridges and main plate, forming an integral whole. With its subtle contrast of dark tones, the visual depth is further enhanced in this unique skeleton watch with a 1/10th of a second indicator.

Both the DEFY Skyline Ceramic and DEFY Skyline Skeleton Ceramic feature faceted polished hands and applied indices filled with white Super-LumiNova for effortless readability – day and night.

Both references are powered by the El Primero 3620 automatic high-frequency manufacture movement, beating at the rate of 5Hz (36’000VpH), providing a 1/10th of a second indicator directly driven by the escapement. Its efficient automatic bi-directional winding mechanism with a blackened star-shaped rotor delivers a power reserve of approximately 60 hours.

ZENITH Defy Skyline Black Ceramic Skeleton

The DEFY Skyline and DEFY Skyline Skeleton are available from ZENITH physical and online boutiques, as well as authorized ZENITH retailers around the world.

Tag Heuer Monaco Chronograph Skeleton

To mark the prestigious 2023 Monaco Grand Prix, Swiss luxury watch brand TAG Heuer has launched three new avant-garde, innovative and vibrant Monaco chronograph skeleton dial versions.

TAG Heuer Monaco Skeleton Chronograph Original Blue

Over 50 years after the birth of the iconic Heuer Monaco, TAG Heuer is taking a further step towards a unique Monaco design by incorporating a skeleton dial. This marks the first time that the collection unveils the mechanism of the watch.

The modern Monaco Chronograph skeleton watch comes in three versions: Original Blue, Racing Red, and Turquoise. Each dial version tells a unique history.

The “Original Blue” draws inspiration from the first-ever TAG Heuer Monaco blue dial. The blue and red colours are featured on the dial, the blue on the column wheel and the oscillating mass engravings – an overall design paying homage to the TAG Heuer Monaco 1969 and its original success.

The “Racing Red” nods to the racing DNA of the TAG Heuer Monaco, with the colour red often referencing the racing sparks made on the tracks.

TAG Heuer Monaco Skeleton Chronograph Racing Red

The black and silver colour touches are especially noticeable on the dial, along with the red column wheel and red engravings being visible on the oscillating mass, which completes the racing-inspired feel.

The “Turquoise” piece is the third watch to round-off the collection, offering a fresh and avant-garde take on TAG Heuer’s Monaco design.

TAG Heuer Monaco Skeleton Chronograph Turquoise

The engaging turquoise, a little nod to Monaco’s coastline and the red color can be seen specifically on the dial, with the turquoise also being sported on the column wheel and on the engravings of the oscillating mass.

The in-house Heuer 02 movement that powers all three timepieces employs a conventional column wheel to activate the chronograph and boasts an 80-hour power reserve. Its engraved oscillating mass is visible through the sapphire case back.

The new Monaco skeletons have a technical and rugged appearance thanks to their sandblasted titanium (grade 2) case.

The Super-LumiNova® treatment on the carved indexes and hands of the watch adds an edgy and futuristic touch. The date window with the same luminous treatment is also a first for the TAG Heuer Monaco, making it easy to read in low-light conditions.

Each timepiece comes the innovative bi-material strap, which combines rubber and leather for optimal comfort and style. These straps come in black or blue respectively, adding to the watches’ overall racing appeal.

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept Tourbillon “Spider-Man”

Audemars Piguet presents the Royal Oak Concept Tourbillon Spider-Man, as the second part of its collaboration with Marvel that began in 2021.

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept Tourbillon Spider-Man Limited Edition

Limited to 250 pieces, the Royal Oak Concept Spider-Man Tourbillon watch is accompanied by a unique piece, which will be auctioned off to benefit the First Book and Ashoka associations, non-profit organisations that work to empower young people to create change and a positive impact.

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept Tourbillon “Spider-Man” Limited Edition

Following the AP Royal Oak Concept “Black Panther” Flying Tourbillon, which launched in 2021, this second collaboration with Marvel features Spider-Man, one of Marvel’s most popular Super Heroes.

Presented in a 42 mm titanium case contrasted with a black ceramic bezel and crown, this timepiece stands out with its new and exceptionally crafted open-worked movement.

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept Tourbillon Spider-Man Limited Edition

Based on the Calibre 2948, the new hand-wound Calibre 2974 required all the open-working expertise of Audemars Piguet’s engineers, watchmakers and craftspeople. This movement comes with a high level of transparency that allows Spider-Man’s character to appear in a three-dimensional form as if suspended in the void through the sapphire crystal.

The silhouette and volume of the character are first cut from a block of white gold using a CNC machine. The Super Hero’s suit is then laser-engraved to obtain the differences in texture that give it its textile appearance. After this step, touch-ups and engraving-related finishings are meticulously done by hand by a single artisan, making each piece unique.

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept Tourbillon Spider-Man Limited Edition

The character is ultimately hand-painted to give him his recognizable two-tone aesthetic, contrasting mat red and metallic blue.

The dial hosts alternating black PVD-coated gold hour-markers and Arabic numerals that are overlaid by hands designed in the same material. All have a polished finish and are enhanced with a white luminescence that turns blue in the dark, subtly referring to the world of Spider-Man.

The AP Spiderman watch is adorned with refined decorations that are faithful to watchmaking tradition and the design codes of the Manufacture. The case alternates between polished and micro-blasted finishes on the top and bottom, while the sides are satin-finished. The movement, however, features a range of decorations, from traits-tirés to sandblasting and polishing.

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept Tourbillon “Black Suit Spider-Man”

Limited to 250 pieces, this model is accompanied by a unique piece called the Royal Oak Concept Tourbillon “Black Suit Spider-Man”.

This one-of-a-kind timepiece comes in a white gold case decorated with a spider leg motif. The case is first laser-engraved to create the spider’s legs, which are then filled with luminescent hybrid ceramic.

It is then polished and finely engraved by laser once more to form a spider’s web in the background. It is combined with a black ceramic bezel with ceramic also adorning the caseback that bears the words “Royal Oak Concept Unique Piece” in white.

Spider-Man appears on the dial in a black suit, a reference to the one worn by the Super Hero in several 1980s comics, notably The Amazing Spider-Man #252 in 1984.
