Seiko Presage Craftsmanship Series, Seiko Watchmaking 110th Anniversary Edition

To celebrate the 110th anniversary of the first Seiko wristwatch (Laurel, circa 1913), the Japanese watchmaking house has proposed various commemorative editions. The latest addition to this line-up is the Seiko Presage Craftsmanship Series 110th Anniversary Edition, comprising four special timepieces showcasing traditional Japanese handcraft combined with the company’s mechanical watchmaking skills.

This special anniversary series offers four limited-edition Presage watches featuring different artistic dials: Enamel, Urushi lacquer, Arita porcelain, and Shippo enamel.

Seiko Presage 110th Anniversary Enamel and Urushi Lacquer Dial Versions

The pristine white enamel dial of the Seiko SPB393 Presage model was created by master craftsman Mitsuru Yokosawa and his team. Moreover, this watch features a red Roman numeral at 12 o’clock, evoking the original Laurel wristwatch of 1913.

The Urushi lacquer dial of the Seiko SPB395 Presage watch was created by Urushi master Isshu Tamura and his team. The coppery brown hue of its dial is inspired by the streetscape of Kanazawa, located in Ishikawa Prefecture.

Furthermore, both Presage models (SPB393 and SPB395) are equipped with the Seiko Cal. 6R24, a 31 jewel self-winding mechanical movement with a 45 hour power reserve and stop second hand function. It drives centrally placed hour, minute and seconds hands as well the indicators of retrograde day & date, and power reserve.

Seiko Presage 110th Anniversary Arita Porcelain and Shippo Enamel Dial Versions

The Arita Porcelain dial of the Seiko SPB397 Presage model was created by Master craftsman Hiroyuki Hashiguchi and his team. The ivory color dial takes us to the Izumiyama Ceramic Stone Field in Arita, Japan. This small town in Saga Prefecture is world renowned for its porcelain.

Common Features

The timepieces from the new Presage Craftsmanship Series feature a new case shape with refined angles and an elegant sense of proportion.

Made of stainless steel with super hard coating, the case has a diameter of 40.2mm (models SPB393 and SPB395) or 40.6mm (models SPB397 and SPB399). Fitted with a screw-in case-back with exhibition glass widow, all the four watches are water resistant to 100 meters.

Each dial features a new design with alternating roman numerals and indexes. The dual-curved sapphire crystal enables the dial to appear even closer and more legible, bringing a truly striking appearance to the craftsmanship on display.

All the four watches from the Seiko Watchmaking 110th Anniversary Presage Craftsmanship Series will be available from June 2023 at the Seiko boutiques and select retail partners worldwide.

The enamel, Urushi lacquer and Arita porcelain dial watches will be offered as limited editions of 1,500 pieces. Meanwhile, the Shippo enamel dial watch is a limited edition of 800 pieces.
