Swiss Watchmaker Longines Times Sir Winston’s Victory at the 2019 Belmont Stakes

Swiss watch brand Longines returned as the Official Partner and Timekeeper of the 151st Belmont Stakes, timing Sir Winston’s impressive win at Belmont Park on Saturday, June 8, 2019.

Sir Winston’s jockey Joel Rosario and his mount navigated a field of impressive contenders, surging past Tacitus and War of Will down the stretch on the outside to take the victory.

Earlier that day, Rushing Fall, ridden by Javier Castellano, claimed the 2019 Longines Just a Game Stakes. Longines U.S. Brand President Pascal Savoy joined the winning teams after each race to personally present Longines timepieces to each jockey, owner, and trainer in recognition of their skillful performances.

In keeping with the Swiss watch brand’s motto, “Elegance is an Attitude,” Longines once again hosted the annual Longines Prize for Elegance fashion contest at Belmont Park. Elegant female attendees walked the runway before a panel of judges that included Style Expert, Style Director Joseph DeAcetis, actress Ana Villafañe, and Pascal Savoy, Longines U.S. Brand President. Elham Ayati was named the 2019 winner of the Longines Prize for Elegance fashion contest, and to mark the occasion, Pascal Savoy presented her with a Swiss-made ladies’ Longines timepiece.

As the Official Timekeeper of the Belmont Stakes, Longines reaffirms the brand’s long-time ties to elegance, excellence, and precision timekeeping. The legacy Swiss watchmaker’s equestrian sports timing activities began in the 1860s, when Longines first produced a watch engraved with a horse head, followed in the 1880s by a chronograph engraved with a horse and his jockey, which was widely adopted by American race enthusiasts and officials, starting in New York.

Available in two sizes (29.50 mm and 34 mm in diameter) and with select models featuring diamonds, the steel case of the new Conquest Classic houses a quartz movement.

The collection offers five different dials – sunray blue, sunray black, sunray silver, white mother-of-pearl or black mother-of-pearl – on which pink or rhodium-plated hands revolve. Pink indexes or diamonds complete the dial of this timepiece, while its steel bracelet lends it further finesse and refinement.
