Glashütte Original Alfred Helwig Tourbillon 1920 Limited Edition

In 1920, Glashütte master watchmaker Alfred Helwig invented the Flying Tourbillon. This year, celebrating the 100th anniversary of this remarkable milestone in the history of mechanical watch making, German watch manufacture Glashütte Original created a limited edition flying tourbillon watch.

The Alfred Helwig Tourbillon 1920 – Limited Edition watch features a classic and elegant face. Inspired by historic models built by Helwig and his students at the German Watchmaking School Glashütte, this new interpretation is positioned, like its predecessors, with understated elegance on the reverse of the movement.

An example of pure elegance, technical sophistication and exceptional craftsmanship, this splendid masterpiece is limited to 25 pieces and presented in a rose gold case. The dial is fashioned in solid gold and subsequently silver-plated by friction. A railroad chapter ring and rod index appliques lend the timepiece an elegant, classic appearance. The filigree baton-style hands in rose gold contribute to the understated look of the watch as a whole.

Glashütte Original Alfred Helwig Tourbillon 1920 Limited Edition

Its attractive seconds display is positioned at 6 o’clock and bears the inscription “Tourbillon”. The latter serves as a subtle indication that this timepiece reveals its many sophisticated aspects in the course of time – certainly not at first glance. With this model, in fact, the famous Flying Tourbillon is hidden on the reverse of the movement – in keeping with the historic models of Helwig‘s era.

The Flying Tourbillon was developed in Glashütte in 1920 by one of the most eminent of German watchmakers: Alfred Helwig. In contrast to the classic tourbillion anchored on both sides, Helwig’s elegant construction required only a single anchor on the underside, with the result that it appears to be flying within its cage. In an open frame, the balance and escapement revolve steadily around their own axis at precisely 360° per minute. In this way, the tourbillon effectively counters the negative influence of gravity on the rate precision.

The German Watchmaking School in Glashütte was founded in 1878. Through its training of a great number of master watchmakers, it achieved considerable influence over the art of German watchmaking as a whole. In 1913, at the age of 27, Alfred Helwig was appointed to a position as technical instructor at the famous training institute. There he dedicated himself – together with his master class students – to the development of particularly accurate timepieces featuring cantilevered tourbillons, which Helwig called “rotary gear watches”.

From 1920, a series of such watches was developed under his direction and in accordance with his concept. When tested by the German Naval Observatory in Hamburg, the general testing centre for precision clocks and watches, they achieved excellent results. Alfred Helwig taught at the renowned watchmaking school for 41 years, in the course of which he trained more than 800 apprentice watchmakers. His publications remain important reference works for watchmakers, regleurs and watch collectors today.

Since 2008 the historic building that once housed the German Watchmaking School Glashütte has been home not only to the German Watch Museum Glashütte, but also to the Historic Workshop of Glashütte Original, whose staff specialise in the restoration and maintenance of valuable timepieces made in Glashütte.

Final assembly of the 25 pieces of the new limited edition will be performed by these supremely competent specialists, which means this masterpiece will not only bear the name of Alfred Helwig, but will have been produced at the original site of his work as master watchmaker and teacher.

This timepiece is powered by the finely finished Calibre 54-01 manual winding movement, which features a remarkable running time of 100 hours.

The eye-catching element on the reverse of the movement is, of course, the filigree Flying Tourbillon. Numerous elaborate decorations and finishes such as the sunburst decoration on the spring barrel cover, Glashütte stripes on the three-quarter plate, blued screws and screw-mounted gold chatons, as well as a great number of polished steel parts, contribute to the fascination of this masterpiece of the Glashütte art of watchmaking.

A brown Louisiana alligator leather strap with a pin buckle ensures a secure fit on the wrist.

Glashütte Original PanoLunarTourbillon Limited Edition

Limited to 25 pieces, the PanoLunarTourbillon features a Platinum case housing a flying tourbillon movement and a hand-engraved dial with skeletonized hands. This new haute horlogerie masterpiece combines the highest levels of craftsmanship, technical sophistication and exceptional beauty in an unmistakable design.

Glashütte Original PanoLunarTourbillon Limited Edition Platinum Case

The PanoLunarTourbillon is a new edition of its predecessor model from 2013 and a true work of art.

Glashütte Original PanoLunarTourbillon Limited Edition Platinum Case

Elaborate engravings adorn the galvanic silver surface of the dial and the back of the movement. These filigree decorations bear witness to the rich traditions of Glashütte watchmaking, lending each watch its uniquely individual character.

Glashütte Original PanoLunarTourbillon Limited Edition Platinum Case

The lavishly decorated dial with the characteristic off centre displays is framed by a case in platinum. Both the auxiliary dial for hours and minutes and the Flying Tourbillon with the small second are positioned on the left side of the dial.

Glashütte Original PanoLunarTourbillon Limited Edition Platinum Case

An exquisite moon phase display with blue night sky and the watchmaker’s signature Panorama Date grace the right side.

Glashütte Original PanoLunarTourbillon Limited Edition Platinum Case

The skeletonized hour and minute hands, indexes and the blued steel tip of the seconds hand provide accents in blue. All engravings on the dial side are executed in Glashütte Original’s own dial manufactory in Pforzheim.

Glashütte Original PanoLunarTourbillon Limited Edition Platinum Case

The Flying Tourbillon oscillates, lightly and gracefully, on the left side of the dial. As fascinating as it is to watch, the complication was originally designed to improve precision. With this “whirlwind“, the entire oscillation and escapement system revolves on its own axis within a minute. This served to counter the effect of gravity on the rate precision of the era’s pocket watches.

Glashütte Original PanoLunarTourbillon Limited Edition Platinum Case

The PanoLunarTourbillon is powered by the automatic movement Calibre 93-12. The timepiece has a power reserve of 48 hours and a fully integrated moon phase mechanism. The oscillating system with 10 weighted screws and 8 regulation screws ensures optimal rate precision.

Characteristic features of the Glashütte art of watchmaking, such as sunburst finish, blued screws as well as beveled and polished edges, reveal their beauty through the sapphire crystal case back.

Glashütte Original PanoLunarTourbillon Limited Edition Platinum Case

The off-centre, skeletonized rotor has an oscillating mass in 21-carat gold. On a screw-mounted decorative stainless steel plaque, one finds the words “Flying Tourbillon” engraved and lined with gold.

Glashütte Original PanoLunarTourbillon Limited Edition Platinum Case

The new timepiece is fitted with a blue Louisiana alligator leather strap with fold fastener in platinum.

Glashütte Original SeaQ Panorama Date New Red Gold and Bi-color Versions

Glashütte Original expands its SeaQ Panorama Date collection by adding two new models: a red gold version with black dial and in a contemporary bi-colour composition in stainless steel and red gold with grey dial.

Glashütte Original SeaQ Panorama Date New Red Gold and Bi-color Versions

In 2019, Glashütte Original introduced the SeaQ diver’s watch, the debut model in a new collection. Inspired by the first diver’s watch made in Glashütte, the Spezimatic Type RP TS 200 from 1969, the SeaQ combines history and modernity in a fascinating way. In 2020, the manufacturer added two new SeaQ Panorama Date models specially designed for the connoisseurs of gold or bi-colour sport watches.

Glashütte Original SeaQ Panorama Date New Red Gold and Bi-color Versions

High-contrast black and gold lend the red gold version a powerful presence: the hands, Arabic numerals and rod indexes on the black dial with sunray finish feature elegant galvanic gold surfaces. The rotating bezel’s ceramic ring with white lacquer inlay, the generous use of luminous white highlights and the Panorama Date’s white numerals on a black ground ensure maximum contrast and enhanced clarity.

Glashütte Original SeaQ Panorama Date New Red Gold and Bi-color Versions

The galvanic grey dial of the bi-colour model, which is also enhanced with a sunray finish, takes up the silver-grey hue of the stainless steel case. The warm glow of the rotating bezel and the crown, both fashioned in red gold, complements the cool shades of grey.

Glashütte Original SeaQ Panorama Date New Red Gold and Bi-color Versions

Galvanic gold numerals, appliqués and hands on the dial provide additional warm accents. The galvanic gold applied Arabic numerals and rod indexes as well as the galvanic gold hour, minute and seconds hands also feature generous Super-LumiNova inlays.

Glashütte Original SeaQ Panorama Date New Red Gold and Bi-color Versions

The SeaQ Panorama Date is water-resistant up to 30 bar (300 metres). Numerous details, such as the screw-down crown and the centrally screwed sapphire crystal case back, support the water resistance of both models.

Glashütte Original SeaQ Panorama Date New Red Gold and Bi-color Versions

The unidirectional counterclockwise rotating bezel with clearly perceptible minute-click and the Super-LumiNova coated triangle ensures reliable determination of the dive time. In addition, the ceramic inlay gives the rotating bezel, which is fashioned in red gold, a scratch-proof surface.

Glashütte Original SeaQ Panorama Date New Red Gold and Bi-color Versions

Within a 43.2 millimetre red gold or stainless steel case, the SeaQ Panorama Date houses 36-13 version of the award-winning Calibre 36 to meet the demanding requirements of precision timekeeping underwater.

Glashütte Original SeaQ Panorama Date New Red Gold and Bi-color Versions

Thanks to its bayonet mounting the movement is anchored in the case in a particularly secure manner. This self-winding caliber provides a remarkable 100-hour running time, while the silicon balance spring ensures reliable and high rate precision.

Glashütte Original SeaQ Panorama Date New Red Gold and Bi-color Versions

The SeaQ Panorama Date meets the most rigorous German and international quality standards. Each watch undergoes intensive in-house testing to ascertain its water resistance and air-tightness under over- and under-pressure conditions. During a prior homologation procedure, a number of test watches were examined to determine their shock resistance, resistance to saltwater corrosion and the resilience of individual functional elements, among other aspects.

Glashütte Original SeaQ Panorama Date New Red Gold and Bi-color Versions

The promise of quality integral to the Calibre 36 is also kept by the SeaQ Panorama Date. This means not only that the timepieces meet the stringent DIN and ISO standards for diver’s watches; they must also submit to and successfully complete a demanding 24-day test, the excellence test. This includes a simulation of the conditions of everyday wear, and a 12-day monitoring of rate precision in six different positions. An individual certificate provides evidence of this test.

Glashütte Original SeaQ Panorama Date New Red Gold and Bi-color Versions

Both models are available with a waterproof grey nylon mesh strap developed especially for the SeaQ or with a black rubber strap with relief pattern.

Glashütte Original Senator Chronometer White Gold Limited Edition

The Senator Chronometer limited edition from Glashütte Original is now available in a newly designed white gold case whose bezel takes the characteristic concave shape of historic marine chronometers. This new model is limited to 25 pieces.

Glashütte Original Senator Chronometer White Gold Limited Edition new model for 2020 with Solid gold, silver-plated dial

Inspired by the highly accurate ship-chronometers made Glashütte in 19th and 20th centuries, this new watch is distinguished by proven rate precision, perfect legibility and exceptional aesthetics.

Glashütte Original Senator Chronometer White Gold Limited Edition new model for 2020 with Solid gold, silver-plated dial

Made its debut in 2009, the Senator Chronometer was voted “Watch of the Year” by readers of the German trade magazine Armbanduhren in 2010. Since then the elegant timepiece has become a permanent and successful part of the Glashütte Original Senator Collection.

Glashütte Original Senator Chronometer White Gold Limited Edition new model for 2020 with Solid gold, silver-plated dial

The year 2020 brings a particularly exquisite and precious follow-up model featuring not only a white gold case but a dial in solid gold and a gold-plated manufactory movement with refined decorative finishes.

Glashütte Original Senator Chronometer White Gold Limited Edition new model for 2020 with Solid gold, silver-plated dial

The term “chronometer” refers to the most precise timekeepers of their time. These exceptionally accurate instruments were used primarily for navigation on the high seas in order to determine, by means of the precise time of day, the exact position of a ship. The manufacture of the first marine chronometers in Glashütte began in 1886, which were soon tested by the Naval Observatory in Hamburg, where they achieved excellent results.

Glashütte Original Senator Chronometer White Gold Limited Edition new model for 2020 with Solid gold, silver-plated dial

The standards today remain equally high: a timepiece may only be called a “chronometer” if certified as such by an authorised testing institute. All wristwatch chronometers from Glashütte Original have their rate precision tested by the German Calibration Service, whose tests are based on the German chronometer standard.

Glashütte Original Senator Chronometer White Gold Limited Edition new model for 2020 with Solid gold, silver-plated dial

The distinguishing feature of the German standard consists in the requirement that the timepiece enable setting of the time precisely to the second, and that the movement complete the entire test while mounted in its case.

Glashütte Original Senator Chronometer White Gold Limited Edition new model for 2020 with Solid gold, silver-plated dial

The design of the displays is inspired by historic marine chronometers: the small second is positioned at 6 o’clock, the running time display at 12 o’clock. In addition, the characteristic Panorama Date is located at 3 o’clock, whose colour matches that of the dial. Thanks to the “jumping date” mechanism, the date change takes place precisely at midnight and takes only a few seconds.

Glashütte Original Senator Chronometer White Gold Limited Edition new model for 2020 with Solid gold, silver-plated dial

The corrector, which allows one to set the date quickly, is located on the side of the case at 4 o’clock. A discreet day/night indication makes it easier to set the time and is located in a round opening within the running time display: from 6 o’clock in the morning until 6 in the evening the small circle appears in white, from 6 p.m. on in black.

Glashütte Original Senator Chronometer White Gold Limited Edition new model for 2020 with Solid gold, silver-plated dial

Historic models also served to inspire the concave shape of the bezel, which allows more visual space for the dial. The bezel is fitted with a delicate knurled edge, which served to improve the grip on marine chronometers of the past.

Glashütte Original Senator Chronometer White Gold Limited Edition new model for 2020 with Solid gold, silver-plated dial

The elaborate decorative finishing of the dial testifies to the craftsmanship of the experts who make this miniature work of art at the watchmaker’s own dial manufactory in Pforzheim.

Glashütte Original Senator Chronometer White Gold Limited Edition new model for 2020 with Solid gold, silver-plated dial

The blank is made of solid gold and is engraved with great care. The engravings are subsequently filled with black lacquer and burnt in with heat in a kiln. In a final step the blanks prepared in this way are manually silver plated. An elaborate process calls for a perfectly calibrated mixture of fine silver powder, salt and water to be rubbed on the dial by hand with a brush, in order to achieve a shining silver surface. This results in a fine, even shimmer across the surface texture of the dial.

Glashütte Original Senator Chronometer White Gold Limited Edition new model for 2020 with Solid gold, silver-plated dial

Pear-shaped hands in blued steel follow their paths to indicate the hour and minutes.
Additional blued hands mark the running time and small second displays, whose silhouettes have been milled into the dial, thus lending the dial additional depth.

The timepiece is powered by the finely finished Calibre 58-03 manual winding movement, whose wheel bridge is also silver plated and subsequently given a galvanic coating in rose gold. The other frame components are also coated entirely in galvanic rose gold.

Glashütte Original Senator Chronometer White Gold Limited Edition Calibre 58-03 manual winding movement new model for 2020 with Solid gold, silver-plated dial

The innovative manufactory movement features, among others, a refined second-stop mechanism: when the crown is pulled out, the time display stops and the seconds hand is reset to zero and held there; simultaneously the minute hand advances to the next full minute index. When one then turns the crown to set the time of day, the hand jumps from one minute index to the next – thus ensuring that the correct relationship between seconds and minutes is maintained.

Glashütte Original Senator Chronometer White Gold Limited Edition new model for 2020 with Solid gold, silver-plated dial caseback view

Through the sapphire crystal case back, you can admire the movement that highlights classic features of the Glashütte art of watchmaking. The characteristic three-quarter plate, screw-mounted gold chatons, polished and bevelled steel parts and the hand-engraved balance cock unite exceptional watchmaking expertise with a genuine work of art.

Any necessary adjustments of the date while traveling forward or back in time, i.e. to the east or west respectively, are handled by the movement’s intricate mechanics.

Glashütte Original SeaQ New Models

German fine watchmaking brand Glashütte Original has expanded its diving watch collection by launching two new models.

Introduced in 2019, the SeaQ diver’s watch takes inspiration from the first diver’s watch made in Glashütte, the Spezimatic Type RP TS 200 from 1969. The collection SeaQ offers reliable timepieces suitable for sports divers, water-sports athletes and adventurers of all kinds.

In 2020, Glashütte Original is adding two stainless steel variations to its existing line of diver’s watches. Applied Arabic numerals and indexes with Super-LumiNova inlays ensure optimal contrasts. The hands also feature generous luminous inlays.

Glashütte Original SeaQ line New Models 2020 Galvanic blue dial

The first model is fitted with a galvanic blue dial featuring a delicate sunray finish. The counter-clockwise rotating bezel is fitted with a deep blue scratch resistant ceramic inlay that takes up the blue hue of the dial.

Glashütte Original SeaQ line New Models 2020 Galvanic blue dial

This model also proves convincing thanks to the clearly perceptible minute-click and the Super-LumiNova highlight on the triangle marking the start of the dive.

Glashütte Original SeaQ line New Models 2020 Galvanic blue dial

This elegant timepiece was tested for conformance with DIN and ISO standards and meets the most rigorous German and international quality standards in terms of water resistance, legibility, shock resistance, resistance to salt-water corrosion and many other criteria.

Glashütte Original SeaQ line New Models 2020 Galvanic blue dial and diamond set bezel

The second model is a glamorous timepiece featuring a rotating bezel studded with 47 brilliant-cut diamonds and a sapphire, ensuring a dazzling appearance.

Glashütte Original SeaQ line New Models 2020 Galvanic blue dial and diamond set bezel

The sapphire on the bezel assumes the function of the triangle mark, which is normally used on diver’s watches to set the start time of a dive.

Glashütte Original SeaQ line New Models 2020 Galvanic blue dial and diamond set bezel

Since the blue gemstone replaces the luminous marking on the bezel, this version does not conform to the DIN and ISO standards, which require that the bezel be equipped with a triangle inlaid with luminous material.

Glashütte Original SeaQ line New Models 2020 Galvanic blue dial and diamond set bezel

Both timepieces feature an engraved case back, which is aligned and then secured in place with a threaded bottom ring.

The cool shimmer of the dials is the work of experts in Glashütte Original’s in-house dial manufactory in Pforzheim, Germany. There the dial blanks are first given a delicate sunray finish before being pressed into their characteristic domed shape and given a galvanic nickel coating.

To achieve the striking dégradé effect they are then sprayed with dark blue lacquer, which first gives them a dark edge. Then the entire surface of the dial is given a coat of glacier blue lacquer. This elaborate hand-crafting results in the individual colour gradient that renders each dial unique. In a final step the dials are heated in an oven to burn in the colours. The incised indexes, printed numerals and Super-LumiNova highlights on each hour marker complete work of art.

The new Sixties is powered by the Calibre 39-52 automatic movement, developed in-house, while the new Sixties Chronograph features the manufactory’s Calibre 39-34. Both models have a 40-hour power reserve. The three-hand model is presented in a 39 mm diameter polished stainless steel case, while the chronograph appears in a 42 mm stainless steel case.

Glashütte Original Sixties and Sixties Chronograph Annual Edition 2020 (With Glacier Blue Dials)

The Sixties Chronograph is equipped with a central stop-second along with two inset auxiliary dials for the small second and 30-minute counter. The domed sapphire crystal case back on both models offers a clear view of each watch‘s finely finished movement with three-quarter plate, swan-neck fine adjustment, Glashütte stripe finish and skeletonised rotor with 21-carat oscillating mass.

The new Sixties and Sixties Chronograph watch models come with brown grey nubuck calfskin straps with lightly contrasting stitching and pin buckle. Both models in this annual edition are available for a limited time only from Glashütte Original Boutiques and selected authorised dealers worldwide.

Glashütte Original PanoMatic Luna Limited Edition with Diamond-set Bezel and White Mother-Of-Pearl Dial with Lilac Colored Numerals

Celebrating love, this Valentine’s Day special edition watch from German brand Glashütte Original features an eye-catching mother-of-pearl dial surrounded by an array of 64 brilliant cut diamonds set on the bezel. This timepiece for women is limited to 25 pieces.

The dial of the new PanoMatic Luna watch combines classic and romantic elements in an elegant ensemble. The hand-crafted mother-of-pearl dial catches the eye immediately, especially the Arabic numerals in different sizes, drawn in a delicate shade of lilac as radiant forms reaching to the edge of the dial. To this end the dial was printed from the back, so that the colour shines through softly and the mother-of-pearl shimmers evenly throughout. At the centre the numerals form a heart, itself framed by nine rod indexes with 18 brilliant-cut diamonds.

Glashütte Original PanoMatic Luna Limited Edition with Diamond-set Bezel and White Mother-Of-Pearl Dial with Lilac Colored Numerals

The dial, made in the manufacture’s own dial manufactory in Pforzheim, is fashioned from the inner layer of sea shells. To protect the razor-thin material from breakage it is mounted on a thin disc of German silver.

The moon phase display owes its striking appearance to its elaborately crafted moon disc, which is also made in Pforzheim. The two silver-coloured moons are first cut out with a milling tool. The surface of the moons is then polished with a diamond milling tool, which gives them a unique brilliance. The special feature of this display, perceptible only upon closer inspection, are the little hearts in the night sky, which playfully take up the symbol of love.

Glashütte Original PanoMatic Luna Limited Edition with Diamond-set Bezel and White Mother-Of-Pearl Dial with Lilac Colored Numerals

In line with classic Pano style, the hour, minute and small second are positioned off centre in the left half of the dial, while the moon-phase at 2 o’clock and the characteristic Glashütte Original Panorama Date adorn the right side. The Arabic numerals too, take up the asymmetric design of the dial and are thus arrayed in different sizes.

The bezel forms a glamorous frame for the stainless steel case with 64 brilliant-cut diamonds. A matching purple strap in alligator leather takes up the coloured accents from the dial. With its delicate and playful elements this limited-edition PanoMatic Luna represents an elegant and romantic addition to the successful product line. Whether sparkling and set with rubies or radiant in delicate blue mother-of-pearl all models in the line prove convincing thanks to stylistic elements at once classic and feminine.

The sapphire crystal case back offers a clear view of the manufactory Calibre 90-12 with its highly refined decorative finishes. The duplex swan-neck fine adjustment from Glashütte Original, a signature feature of the brand, along with numerous other traditional elements of Glashütte watchmaking such as the three-quarter plate, blued screws and the characteristic Glashütte decorative finishes, offer further proof of the origin of the watch. The movement has an oscillation frequency of 4 Hz and features a power reserve of 42 hours.

Glashütte Original Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date Special Limited Editions in Green and Grey Dials

The Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date from Glashütte Original continues to enjoy an enthusiastic reception five years after it was first presented.

This timepiece combines the perfection of genuine manufactory production with the rich traditions of Glashütte watchmaking. And today the successful chronograph presents another facet, in two limited editions of 100 pieces each: equipped with fascinating dials in green and grey, the new versions pay special tribute to the landscape that has inspired the work of Glashütte’s watchmakers for over 170 years.

Glashütte Original Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date Special Limited Editions in Green and Grey Dials

Glashütte Original is located in the centre of Glashütte, a small town set in a valley in Saxony’s Ore Mountains; for hundreds of years the town was shaped by its principle activity, mining.

Today the manufactory is surrounded by thick forests, rich green meadows, steep rocky outcrops, moss-covered stone, and innumerable traces of tin and silver mining. Green and grey are thus the dominant colours of this natural backdrop to everyday life in the town.

Glashütte Original Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date Special Limited Editions in Green and Grey Dials

The dials of the special limited edition of the Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date take up the colour-play characteristic of the region and its impressive natural landscape. This successful chronograph’s striking new green and grey faces are fashioned in the watchmaker’s in-house dial manufactory in Pforzheim. There they are also ennobled with the sophisticated degrade effect, deployed with sensational effect on the latest models of the Sixties line as well: the lighter hues at the centre of the dial shade gradually into darker nuances at the circumference.

As a first step in creating the dégradé effect, the experts at Glashütte Original’s dial manufactory in Pforzheim use rotating brass brushes to apply an elegant sunray finish. After the dials are galvanized, green or grey lacquer is applied in several passes. In a final step, black lacquer is carefully applied at varying angles using a hand-held spray gun, which results in individual colour flows unique to each watch. The lacquer-coated dials are then fired in a kiln to burn in the colour.

This striking timepiece makes a brilliant impression – in its new look as well – with the proven arrangement of the chronograph displays: central stop seconds, 30-minute and 12-hour counters with flyback mechanism, small second, power reserve display as well as the characteristic Panorama Date. The rhodium-plated rod indexes give the timepiece a clean, clear look.

The new timepieces are framed by a streamlined, stainless steel case holding the Calibre 37-02 chronograph movement: an automatic 4 Hz column wheel movement with 70-hour power reserve. Thanks to its stable and compact construction, it is remarkably impervious to interference. Its finely finished elements, characteristic of Glashütte watchmaking, are easily admired through the special sapphire crystal case back.

The Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date – Limited Edition features a new, grey-brown calf nubuck leather strap that takes up the shaded colourings of the dial in an elegant fashion, rounding off both models‘ natural play of colours.

Glashütte Original – PanoMaticLunar and PanoReserve, New Models in Red Gold with Galvanic Blue Dials

Glashütte Original introduces new versions of its successful PanoMaticLunar and PanoReserve featuring deep blue handmade dials framed by cases in red gold.

The new PanoReserve and PanoMaticLunar from German watchmaker Glashütte Original present contemporary, truly original designs. A satin-brushed and polished red gold case frames the signature asymmetric arrays of both models.

The hour/minute and small second dials are aligned along a vertical axis on the left side, while the characteristic Panorama Date, presented in white numerals against a blue ground, is positioned just below 4 o’clock. Luminous highlights on the gold hour and minute hands ensure clear legibility under all lighting conditions.

The PanoReserve’s fan-shaped Auf/Ab (up/down) power reserve indicator is placed at 2 o’clock, while the terms “Panoramadatum” (Panorama Date) and “Gangreserve” (power reserve) are presented in German, as a subtle reminder of the watchmaker’s origins.

The red gold case and blue dial prove equally characteristic as the eye takes in the exquisite white-on-blue Panorama Date.

The PanoMaticLunar impresses with its refined moon phase display featuring a golden moon and stars scattered across a silver sky. The various displays have been positioned on the dial according to the Golden Ratio – the law of aesthetic harmony that has inspired artists and architects for centuries.

The dials of both new Pano versions are made in Glashütte Original’s in-house dial manufactory in Pforzheim, Germany. Up to 40 separate steps are required to produce the distinctive details and perfect finishing of the dials. The rich blue, for example, is the product of a galvanic process that must be tightly controlled to achieve the exact shade of blue desired.

The dial must be submerged in the galvanic bath for precisely the right amount of time and the voltage held at the right level. All aspects of the galvanisation process are subject to strict standards designed to prevent even minor changes in the colour.

Similar rigorous standards govern the processes used to create the grooved “vinyl” pattern on the surface of the off-centre hour/minute and small second dials, or the pad-printed numerals of the Panorama Date display.

The dial-makers in Pforzheim are also responsible for the production of the small disc for the PanoMaticLunar’s moon phase display. The disc’s two gold-coloured moons are turned out using a diamond-tipped tool, which gives them their beautifully convex form and unique brilliance, while the silver, starry sky is the product of an elaborate galvanisation process.

The PanoMaticLunar is driven by the 4-Hz automatic movement Calibre 90-02 with a 42-hour power reserve. The sapphire crystal case back offers an unobstructed view into the finely finished movement and its characteristic Glashütte elements.

The heart of the PanoReserve is the 4 Hz manual winding Calibre 65-01 with a 42-hour power reserve. Here, too, the traditional elements of Glashütte watchmaking are visible through the sapphire crystal case back: from the hand engraved balance cock, screw-mounted gold chatons and blued screws on the three-quarter plate with Glashütte stripe finish to the duplex swan-neck fine adjustment developed by Glashütte Original.
