Founded in 2013, Vortic Watch Company combines the cutting-edge technology of metal 3D printing with salvaged and restored antique American-made pocket watch movements to create bespoke wristwatches.
The company plays a great role to preserve the American watchmaking history. Most antique American pocket watches today are scrapped for the value of their gold or silver cases. Vortic salvages, restores and transforms those pieces of antiquity into unique wristwatches. Each and every timepiece is one-of-a- kind, and built by hand in the company’s Fort Collins, Colorado workshop.
Vortic Watch Company was co-founded by R.T. Custer and Tyler Wolfe. Inside a workshop in Fort Collins in Northern Colorado, the team salvages, restores, and preserves the historic pieces of American watchmaking.
The engineering system is entirely made in the United States with most components produced in-house. Individual craftsmen rebuild the classic movement, then design, engineer and manufacture a case and strap system for the new watch.
Vortic watch prices range from $2,500 to $12,000. The brand offers unique pieces from flagship American Artisan Series, which is comprise of collections like Lancaster, Springfield, Boston, Cleveland, Chicago, Rockford and Burlington. The company also makes military editions in limited quantities.
Each Vortic timepiece houses a professionally restored and artistically finished antique pocket watch movement manufactured in America. For example, the unique pieces from the Lancaster series are equipped with the rejuvenated mechanical calibers made by the historic Hamilton Watch Company, which was based in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
Similarly, each Vortic Chicago watch houses a vintage movement made by the Elgin National Watch Company. The Springfield series utilizes the movements originally manufactured by the Illinois Watch Company.
The one-of-a-kind creations from the Boston collection are powered by the movements created by the American Waltham Watch Company. The Vortic Burlington series watches are equipped with the pocket watch movements from Burlington Watches, a private label of the Illinois Watch Company.
The Vortic Cleveland models are driven by historic Ball Watch movements. The Rockford range employs antique movements of the Rockford Watch Company.
