WYLER GENÈVE CODE-S CHRONOGRAPH

Presented at 2009 Baselworld Fair, this new chronograph collection retains Wyler Genève’s distinctive identity. A total of 17 different models are available initially, in 18-carat red gold or stainless steel.

For the new Code-S collection, the brand’s familiar tonneau case has been reduced in size and its lines have been rounded. It uses the same sandwich construction as its bigger brother, the Code-R, with two metal plates fixed to a composite case middle by means of four polished titanium screws. All models feature Wyler Genève’s patented crown protector, which must be opened on both sides (using the sliding pins) in order to manipulate the tyre-like rubber-coated crown. Distinctive concave chronograph pushers resembling a car’s foot pedals blend harmoniously into the case, with three horizontal stripes following the contours around the case middle punctuated by the “WYLER” engraving on the opposite side.

The Code-S dial maintains a strong Wyler Genève identity with an applique comprising surrounds for the chronograph counters, an oversized 12 and an inner oval ring. It is available in the classic colours of black and white as well as more modern interpretations in brown, taupe, gray and – for the ladies’ models – mother-of-pearl. The bezel – a first on a Wyler Genève timepiece – allows further colour-coding possibilities and – for the ladies’ models – jewellery version set with 140 precious stones. All models feature a domed, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on the inside.

Four 18-carat red-gold models in the collection offer an equal choice for both sexes: the ladies’ models have a classic white dial complemented by an unusual white composite case middle and a bezel in either white ceramic or 18 –carat red gold set with 140 white diamonds for approximately 1.40 carats. The gents’ gold models come with a black dial with a black DLC-treated bezel or a rich chocolate-brown dial with matching brown CVD (chemical vapour deposition) bezel.

The scales are tipped firmly in the ladies’ favour for the stainless-steel models, with more than half the models carrying a feminine design and all but two of these being set with different precious stones. There are two models with the classic white dial and a choice of bezel in either polished stainless steel or white ceramic. Ladies who prefer the sparkle of diamonds can opt for a white dial with a bezel set with 140 white diamonds or a metallic grey dial set with 140 white or black diamonds. And for the full jewellery look, three mother-of-pearl dials are available with matching stone-set bezels: white with white diamonds, blue with blue sapphires and pink with pink sapphires.

Wyler Genève chose the reliability of its existing Swiss-made automatic chronograph movement, which has a 42-hour power reserve, to power the Code-S. A drilled, blackened oscillating mass with white Wyler Genève logo captures the wearer’s movements in order to power the watch and is visible through a transparent sapphire crystal aperture in the case back.

The new Code-S models are fitted as standard with an elegant foldover clasp with an engraved buckled in gold for the gold models and titanium for the steel models. They are water resistant to 100 metres and come with a 2-year international warranty.

Wyler Genève Code-R Night Racer Chronograph

The mysterious dial of the Wyler Genève Code-R Night Racer chronograph boasts a matt black dial inside the brushed titanium case.

The Wyler Genève Night Racer chronograph is inspired by the first-ever night-time motor racing grand prix on 28th September last year in Singapore (one of the brand’s biggest markets). Its unique shock-absorbing case is made of a lightweight but highly resistant carbon-fibre resin frame. This holds in place a titanium container inside which the movement is sealed. The two titanium plates of the case are fixed to this assembly in a sandwich-like construction by four sprung-mounted titanium screws, leaving the entire watch movement and dial suspended within the case and thus able to absorb shocks.

The screws are DLC-coated in black to match the polished black applied numerals of the dial and single them out as functional – rather than purely aesthetic – elements. Fans of motorsport will appreciate the attention to detail of the design, with chronograph pushers in the style of a car’s foot pedals and the grooved rubber-coated crown that resembles a racing tyre.

By day, the dark, tone-on-tone dial of the Wyler Genève Night Racer chronograph barely hints at its precision mechanical function. Its muted aspect instead further emphasises the distinctive Wyler Genève case. By night, however, the black SuperLuminova on the hands and minute track numerals fires up to reveal the passing hours and minutes against a background that blends into the darkness.

The Wyler Genève Night Racer chronograph is driven by one of the most reliable Swiss automatic chronograph movements and has a power reserve of 42 hours. The personalised oscillating mass that generates power for the watch by capturing the movements of its wearer offers further parallels with motorsport: its design in drilled blackened heavy metal resembles that of the latest ventilated ceramic disc brakes.

The chronograph movement and its oscillating mass are both visible behind a transparent sapphire crystal window in the case back. The Night Racer chronograph is fitted as standard with a black rubber bracelet with pushbutton-operated foldover clasp in steel and titanium. As with all Wyler Genève models, it comes with a 2-year warranty.

Wyler Genève Chronograph

Continuing in the spirit of company founder Paul Wyler, the Wyler Genève Chronograph offers the ultimate in shock protection in a unique and resolutely sporty design. This timepiece is available in a strictly limited edition of 3,999 pieces in a choice of red gold, platinum, titanium or stainless steel and incorporates a triple protection system that consists of a sprung case, unique crown protector and Wyler’s original shock-resistant Incaflex balance wheel in the movement.

The Wyler Genève Chronograph’s original case design involves a sandwich-style construction in which the movement is first encased in a titanium holder that rests in a carbon-fibre frame. The front and back of the case, as well as the rubber strap, are then attached by sprung screws that act as shock absorbers and suspend the movement inside the case. The case and strap therefore form one robust unit and the only remaining area of vulnerability of the watch – its crown – is fully protected by a crown protector on two sliding pins that must be fully retracted before the crown can be operated, thus ensuring that the crown cannot transmit any shocks to the movement.

A sporty dial with a touch of luxury: the black base is divided into inner and outer zones with contrasting brushed surfaces. These are separated by the applied counter ring that is secured with screws and includes the date window at 4 o’clock. The luxury finish is completed by individually applied Arabic numerals and an applied Wyler name. Matching skeleton hands with luminescent tips display the hours, minutes and chronograph hours and minutes, whilst red hands are responsible for the central chronograph seconds and continuous seconds.

The personalised self-winding chronograph movement is visible through the sapphire crystal aperture in the case back. One is immediately drawn to the striking oscillating weight in blackened heavy metal, whose drilled design is yet another feature that alludes to the world of automobiles, recalling drilled aluminium pedals or ventilated disk brakes, for example. The distinctive Incaflex balance wheel design, with its curved flexible arms designed to absorb shocks, can also be seen in the 12 o’clock position. The separate screw-in inlay surrounding the sapphire crystal aperture is engraved with the Wyler logo as well as the unique number for each limited-edition piece and a reminder of the precious materials used in its construction.

Undoubtedly the most intriguing aspect of the Wyler Genève Chronograph, the four visible sprung titanium screws show off the watch’s unique suspension system. The custom-built screws fix the separate case front and back to the carbon fibre middle section in which the movement is suspended in its titanium holder. Thanks to the sapphire crystal apertures surrounding the screws, the whole intricate system can be seen in action as it elegantly absorbs any pressure on the watch movement.

The Wyler Genève Chronograph’s strap is fixed directly to the case to further increase the robustness of the watch. It is made from durable natural rubber with the signature Wyler “W” pattern and secured to the buckle by ultra-strong titanium pins.

The crown protector on the Wyler Genève Chronograph is unique in the world of watchmaking. It is secured by two pins to protect the crown from shocks and must be retracted on both sides before the crown can be used to adjust the watch. This striking feature is boldly engraved with the Wyler name.

Wyler Genève El Camino Real Ceramic Chronograph

In 2008, Wyler Genève presented a special edition chronograph named El Camino Real, the legendary West-coast route.

The new El Camino Real model has a scratch-resistant black ceramic case with a modified design (9mm wider and 1mm shorter than the limited-edition chronograph) that adds even more muscle to an already beefy watch. A matt black dial with a matt black ring housing the hour markers and counter surrounds creates a deliberately understated look. Luminous orange SuperLuminova material is used for the dots marking the hours, the chronograph hours and minutes and the inserts for the hands, providing a sharp contrast with the sobriety of the rest of the dial.

The El Camino Real chronograph is powered by a Swiss-made self-winding movement with a power reserve of 42 hours plus. It is fitted with a personalized Wyler Genève rotor in drilled blackened heavy metal, with rhodium-plated bevels for the holes and a Wyler Genève engraving. The movement is housed inside a titanium container that is held in place by a carbon-fibre frame and mounted on springs between two matt black ceramic plates.

This assembly forms the shock-absorbing sprung case used for all Wyler Genève models, which is further enhanced by the patented crown protector in black ceramic. Diamond-like carbon (DLC) treatment on the titanium screws and pushers maintains the dark look and a black rubber bracelet with the signature Wyler Genève pattern and a new fold-over clasp completes the ensemble. Like all shock-resistant Wyler Genève timepieces, the El Camino Real chronograph is water-resistant to 50 metres and comes with a two-year manufacturer’s warranty.

Wyler Genève Zagato Limited Edition – Special Edition Watch in Partnership with Zagato Automobiles, Italy

In October 2007, Swiss luxury watch brand Wyler Genève and Italy’s Atelier Zagato unveiled a special-edition watch to seal the long-term partnership between the two companies announced at the Geneva Motor Show 2007. The Wyler-Zagato watch is the first timepiece to bear the hallmark of the famous Italian atelier.

The high-end timepiece uses the same case, made of highly resistant titanium, as Wyler Genève’s exclusive tourbillon models and features a shock-absorbing case design in which the movement is housed in a water resistant titanium container that is cushioned between the bezel and case back in a carbon-fibre resin frame that is fixed on four sprung titanium screws. This gives the movement a form of shock protection that is similar to a car’s suspension. Additional shock protection is provided by the crown protector, which has to be opened on either side of the crown before the crown can be used to adjust the time.

Working within the micro-mechanical tolerances required in watchmaking, the designers at Zagato have succeeded in translating the unmistakable signature of Zagato cars on to a watch dial that is no bigger than a car’s door lock. The key to this is the use of a brushed aluminium look that is divided into two zones by the familiar “double bubble” shape seen on roof line of many of Zagato’s creations. The applied “Z” trademark in red at 9 o’clock reaffirms the model’s pedigree and, together with the red-tipped seconds hand, adds a sporty touch to the watch. Applied hour markers and the individually applied letters of the Wyler name complete the luxury finish of the dial and a closer look at the power reserve indicator at 12 o’clock gives a clue to the unusual heart that beats inside.

The Wyler-Zagato watch is powered by a manual winding manufacture movement that has an 8-day power reserve, which is achieved by the use of two barrel springs operating in series. Taking its inspiration from a car’s dashboard, the power reserve display stands out with its “E” (empty) and “F” (full) markings.

Following Zagato’s philosophy of producing strictly limited editions of its automobile’s, the Wyler-Zagato watch is also a limited edition of only 25 pieces, each of which has its individual number engraved both on the case back and the movement itself.

For perfect legibility, the time is displayed by the familiar hollowed-out Wyler Genève hands with luminous SuperLuminova inserts. The front and back glass is made of scratch-resistant sapphire crystal to ensure a perfect view of the dial and movement. The automotive theme of the watch is rounded off by the distinctive Wyler Genève rubber bracelet, which bears the brand’s signature tyre-tread pattern and is fitted with a standard buckle fixed with a titanium pin and screw.

The limited-edition Wyler-Zagato watch is presented in a special black presentation box reminiscent of a car tool kit that bears the Zagato name.

Wyler Geneve Tourbillon New Red Gold and Tantalum Models

For Baselworld 2008, Wyler Genève presents the successor model to its limited-edition Tourbillon launched last year, available in 18-carat gold and tantalum and powered by the brand’s unique manufacture movement.

Thanks to their distinctive new case design with in-built shock absorption, the 24 limited-edition Tourbillon models launched by Wyler Genève at Baselworld in 2007 were oversubscribed several times over. As a result, deliveries of the brand’s 2008 Tourbillon models will be limited only by the painstaking nature of their production, both for the case and the movement.

Because of its anti-shock design, the Wyler Genève watch case alone is much more complicated to produce than a standard watch case, but offers much greater protection of the precious tourbillon movement as a result. The movement is sealed inside a titanium container held in place by a carbon-fibre resin frame that is sandwiched between two metal plates. The four polished titanium screws holding this construction in place are mounted on springs, allowing the movement holder to move up and down within the frame and therefore absorb shocks. A patented crown protector, which is attached directly to the carbon-fibre frame and must be opened on both sides, offers additional protection for the watch’s time-setting mechanism.

A wide arc cut out of the bottom part of the dial reveals to the keen eye the subtle difference that makes the Wyler Genève tourbillon unique. Two small springs visible either side of the tourbillon cage mount the cage to the tourbillon bridge, leaving the tourbillon cage suspended in a similar fashion to the watch case and thus offering an additional form of shock protection. The base of the dial itself reproduces the carbon-fibre-like pattern found on the watch’s rubber strap, which is the core element in Wyler Genève’s corporate identity.

The “rice grains” of the pattern are hollowed out, as are an oversized “12” in the appropriate position and the Wyler name, giving a new lightness to the dial and further opening up the view of the manufacture movement beneath it. Everyday practicality is ensured by a power reserve indicator between 9 and 11 o’clock (the hand-wound movement has a power reserve of at least 5 days) and a big date window at 12 o’clock.

The Wyler Genève Tourbillon is available in 18-carat red gold or tantalum, with the hour markers and subdial rings matching the colour of the case. The natural rubber strap, which is imprinted with the same pattern found on the dial, is fastened by a buckle in the same metal as the case. Like all Wyler Genève timepieces, the Tourbillon comes with a two-year international warranty and its inner movement case is water resistant to 50 metres.

Wyler Geneve GMT – The World’s First Carbon-Neutral Watch

Building on the success of its shock-absorbing case launched in chronograph and tourbillon versions at last year’s Baselworld Show, for 2008 Wyler Genève presents a new GMT model that is the first watch in the world to be certified CarbonNeutral®.

The new Wyler Genève GMT watch uses the brand’s unique anti-shock case design in which the movement is sealed in a titanium container held in place by a carbon-fibre resin frame fixed between two metal plates.

The Wyler Genève GMT is powered by the industry-standard ETA caliber 2893-2, which operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4Hz) and has a 42-hour power reserve. It displays the time with hour, minute and sweep seconds hands. An additional hand with a luminous arrowhead tip mounted on the central axis makes one full revolution every 24 hours and can therefore be used to read a second time zone, or indeed Universal Time (UT) or GMT off the inner 24-hour scale on the dial – hence the name of the watch.

A choice of 18-carat red gold or stainless steel in combination with classic and modern dials offers two distinct looks for the new Wyler Genève GMT: The luxury of gold is accentuated by classic black or blue dials with redgold hour markers; the stainless-steel models offer a sportier look with dials in black with rhodium hour markers and a choice of white or orange SuperLuminova for the luminous dots on the 5-minute markings, the 24-hour scale and the GMT hand, or an eggshell-coloured dial with ruthenium hour markers. A final touch of luxury is provided by the individually applied letters of the Wyler name at 12 o’clock on the dial.

The dial is divided into three concentric zones, with an applied outer minute track, a middle zone housing the baguette hour markers and an inner zone displaying the 24-hour scale. A sectorial date window in applique at 6 o’clock shows part of the previous and next dates to avoid any confusion. The facetted hour and minute hands are skeletonised and have SuperLuminova inserts for better low-light visibility.

All models are initially available with a natural black rubber strap (with blue alligator leather also available for the 18-carat gold model with blue dial) featuring the signature Wyler Genève pattern and a matching buckle in 18-carat red gold or stainless steel. Other strap varieties and a new foldover clasp will become available as the models are rolled out into stores. Like all Wyler Genève timepieces, the GMT model has a two-year international warranty and the inner movement case is water-resistant to 50 metres.

Wyler Geneve WM2

Following on from the hugely successful Wyler Zagato watch launched in October 2007, Wyler Genève presented a new Power Reserve model at Baselworld 2008 in its standard collection. At its heart is a new manufacture caliber with a 10-day power reserve.

The WM2 uses the unique Wyler Genève anti-shock case design in which the movement is sealed in a titanium container held in place by a carbon-fibre resin frame that is sandwiched between two metal plates.

In this power reserve version, the watch is characterized by two distinctive features: The first is a dial that features Wyler Genève’s signature carbon-fibre-like pattern. The “rice grains” of the pattern are hollowed out, which gives a new lightness to the dial and at the same time tantalizes the wearer with a peek at the very special manufacture movement beneath it.

The second is that there are no letters or numbers other than the company name in hollowed out of the dial and “SWISS MADE” at 6 o’clock on the minute track, which creates a truly minimalist, sleek look for the watch. Furthermore, the dial offers an unusual symmetry with the power reserve indicator at 12 o’clock mirrored by the small seconds hand at 6 o’clock, both surrounded by applied rings. The only subtle differences between the two subdials are in the graduations and hands used.

The manufacture movement offers a minimum power reserve of 10 days that is achieved by the use of three barrel springs operating in series. The hand-wound movement has a distinctive design visible through the transparent sapphire crystal case back, with the subtle engraving “WYLER GENEVE WM2”.

The Wyler Genève WM2 is available in 18-carat red gold or titanium, with the hour markers and subdial rings matching the colour of the case. Both versions come with a black dial and matching black natural rubber strap, which is imprinted with the same pattern found on the dial, is fastened by a buckle in the same metal as the case. Like all Wyler Genève timepieces, the WM2 comes with a two-year international warranty and its inner movement case is water resistant to 50 metres.
