Swiss luxury watch brand Rolex has announced a new program (Rolex Certified Pre-Owned Watches) that allows the customers to purchase genuine pre-owned watches from its Official retailers.
Certified as Authentic and guaranteed by the brand, these timepieces benefit from the exacting quality criteria inherent to all Rolex products and from a two-year international guarantee, valid from their date of resale in the Rolex Network.
The programm enables retailers in the brand’s official distribution network to sell second-hand models that are certified as authentic and which come with a new two-year international guarantee.
@Rolex SA
Rolex Certified Pre-Owned watches will initially be available at Bucherer boutiques in six countries (Switzerland, Austria, Germany, France, Denmark and the UK) from the start of December 2022. Other Official Rolex Retailers who choose to be part of this programme will be able to do so from spring 2023.
The Rolex Certified Pre-Owned programme attests the authenticity of second-hand Rolex watches – that are least three years old – at their time of resale by an Official Retailer displaying the special plaque. It guarantees that these watches benefit from the quality criteria inherent to all Rolex products and from the full know-how and professionalism of the brand’s worldwide network of experts.
The Rolex Certified Pre-Owned seal that accompanies the watches concerned symbolizes their status as certified second-hand Rolex watches.
The Rolex Certified Pre-Owned guarantee card, delivered at the time of the sale, officially confirms that the watch is genuine and guarantees its proper functioning. This card bears the words “Certified Pre-Owned” and serves as an official certificate of authenticity.
Rolex presents Deepsea Challenge, a professional-grade diving watch capable of withstanding the extreme pressures up to the depth of 11,000 metres (36,090 feet). Its case and bracelet are made from RLX titanium, a grade 5 titanium alloy selected by Rolex for its lightness and resistance to deformation and corrosion.
The Rolex Deepsea Challenge from the Oyster Perpetual range pays tribute to two historic underwater missions.
On 23 January 1960, the Deep Sea Special – an experimental Rolex watch designed to resist extreme pressure – accompanied oceanographer Jacques Piccard and U.S. Navy Lieutenant Don Walsh when they set their diving record in the Mariana Trench. Attached to the exterior of the bathyscaphe Trieste, it reached a depth of 10,916 metres (35,814 feet).
On 26 March 2012, filmmaker James Cameron explored the Mariana Trench inside a submersible, descending alone and reaching a depth of 10,908 metres (35,787 feet). A new experimental Rolex watch – the Rolex Deepsea Challenge – was developed and attached to the manipulator arm of the submersible. The Oyster Perpetual Deepsea Challenge is an extension of the experimental watch created for James Cameron’s dive.
Equipped with helium escape valve and the Ringlock system, the Deepsea Challenge is capable of accompanying divers in any environment – during open-water diving, submersible dives or in hyperbaric chambers.
Rolex Deepsea Challenge Ref. 126067-0001
RLX Titanium Case
The experimental watch that accompanied James Cameron in the Mariana Trench posed a wearability problem due to its weight, as it was made from 904L steel.
To address this issue, Rolex has opted for RLX titanium to create the case and bracelet of the Deepsea Challenge. It is 30% lighter than the experimental watch that inspired it. This new watch has a particularly visible grain in the satin finish on the bracelet and middle case – with the exception of the crown guard. In order to highlight the curved profile of the lugs, the top edges have been chamfered and polished.
The Oyster-type case in RLX titanium measures 50mm in diameter. The Deepsea Challenge is engraved with the words “Mariana Trench” as well as the dates “23-01-1960” and “26-03-2012” on the case back, in homage to the two historic dives into the Mariana Trench in which Rolex watches took part.
The Triplock waterproofness system provides strengthened impermeability. The watches fitted with this system have three markings located under the Rolex emblem on the face of the winding crown.
Ringlock System
This new watch comes with Rolex’s patented Ringlock system. It is a signature feature of the brand’s diving watches designed for extreme depths. This system consists of a reinforced case architecture comprising a thick, slightly domed sapphire crystal, a nitrogen-alloyed steel compression ring, and a solid screw-down case-back.
The Ringlock system allows the Deepsea Challenge to withstand the pressure exerted by water at 11,000 metres (36,090 feet), the depth to which it is guaranteed waterproof.
Helium Escape Valve
The helium escape valve overcomes limitations experienced by divers’ watches during saturation dives. In a hyperbaric chamber, watches progressively fill with helium, as the atoms of this gas, present in the mix that the divers breathe, are so tiny that they can pass through the watch’s waterproof seals. During decompression phases, if helium remains trapped, it can damage the watch and even cause the crystal to separate from the case.
Dial
This timepiece has an intense black dial enhanced with a proprietary luminous application. Exclusive to Rolex and presented in 2008 for the launch of the Rolex Deepsea, the Chromalight display is characterized by its luminescent material, applied to the hands, the hour markers and the capsule on the rotatable bezel. It emits a characteristic blue glow that is exceptionally bright and long-lasting.
Oyster Bracelet in RLX titanium
Made of RLX titanium, the Oyster bracelet comes with both the Fliplock extension link and the Rolex Glidelock system. Thanks to the combination of these two extension systems, the watch can be worn comfortably over a diving suit up to 7 mm thick.
Movement
The Deepsea Challenge houses Calibre 3230, a self-winding movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. It features Chronergy escapement, blue Parachrom hairspring with a Rolex overcoil and oscillator with high-performance Paraflex shock absorbers. Power reserve of this movement is approximately 70 hours.
Like all Rolex watches, the Deepsea Challenge carries the Superlative Chronometer certification redefined by Rolex in 2015.

Among the 10 references introduced in 2016, seven have been discontinued. In addition to the newly released ref. 116503-0011, the other Yellow Rolesor Daytona models currently produced by Rolex are 116503-0001, 116503-0003 and 116503-0004.
Introduced in 1967, Sea-Dweller is a series of deep-diving watches from Rolex. The reference 116600 was launched in 2014 and the ref. 126600 in 2017. The brand discontinued the Sea-Dweller Ref. 116600 in 2017. Let us compare these two Sea-Dweller watches.
Sea-Dweller Ref. 116600 Vs Ref. 126600
Case
The case material is same: 904L steel (now known as Oyster steel). The diameter is different: 40mm for Ref. 116600 and 43mm for Ref. 126600. Water resistant to 1,220 metres (4,000 feet), both models feature helium escape valve, screw-down crown with fluting, screw-down winding-crown with Triplock waterproofness system, and integrated crown guards.
Crystal
The sapphire crystal glass of Ref. 126600 is provisioned with a Cyclops lens window over the date whereas Sea-Dweller Ref. 116600 does not have this element.
Sea-Dweller Ref. 116600
Bezel
Both references feature 120-click unidirectional diving bezel to carry out countdown function up to sixty minutes. It is a vital component of modern diving watches.
Rolex Sea-Dweller 116600 has an aluminium bezel insert with a triangle with lumed dot at 0/60, large rectangular markers (for 5, 15, 25, 35, 45 & 55 ) and numerals for 10, 20, 30, 40 & 50. It is to be noted that the 0 to 15 scale is highlighted with medium-size minute markers. The remaining minutes (between 15 and 60) are displayed with smaller markers.
The Sea-Dweller Ref. 126600 has a Cerachrom bezel-insert, which is more durable and scratch-proof than the aluminium ones. All graduations on the bezel of Ref. 126600 are in the same pattern of 116600.
Sea-Dweller Ref. 126600
Dial
The Sea-Dweller 116600 has a black, satin-finished black dial with all texts in white color. The reference 126600 features a glossy black dial with SEA-DWELLER in red and other inscriptions in white. Both models come with Chromalight hands and markers.
Movement
Both models feature Manufacture self-winding movements made by Rolex. The Sea Dweller Ref. 116600 is equipped with the Caliber 3135, which offers a power reserve of 48 hours. The reference 126600 houses the Calibre 3235. Thanks to the advanced Chronergy escapement, this movement provides a power reserve of 70 hours.
Bracelet
Both references comes with Oyster three link bracelet in Oystersteel (904L steel). This bracelet comes with the innovations like Oysterlock folding safety clasp, Glidelock extension system and Fliplock extension link.
In 2021, Rolex removed the provisioning of the Fliplock extension link from the Sea-Dweller 126600 series. Introduced in 2008 with the Rolex Deepsea model, this mechanism allows to lengthen the bracelets by approximately 26 mm.
The latest production Sea-Dweller Reference 126600-0002 comes without the Fliplock extension link. Similarly, the newly released Deepsea 136660 does not feature this bracelet extension system.
The new Rolex Sea-Dweller 43mm is a latest addition to the Swiss brand’s deep diving watch family. It belongs to the ref. 126600 series.
In 2017, Rolex released a new generation of its Sea-Dweller watches as a replacement of the Reference 116600 series. Featuring a 43mm diameter case in Oystersteel and the self-winding 3235 calibre, the Sea-Dweller Ref. 126600 maintains a water resistance of 1,220 metres or 4,000 feet.
The first model from this generation is Reference 126600-0001, which features a black dial with red SEA-DWELLER inscription as a tribute to the Single Red prototypes produced in the 1960s. In 2021, Rolex replaced this model with a new reference 126600-0002.
The majority of the aesthetic and technical characteristics of both references remain same. A notable difference is that the new Rolex Sea-Dweller 126600-0002 comes without the Fliplock extension links.

The large Chromalight hour markers and hands with luminescent material emit a long-lasting blue glow, ensuring excellent readability of the indications. The new Rolex Oyster Perpetual Deepsea 44mm references come with Oyster type bracelet made of Oystersteel.
The Oyster bracelet comes with an Oysterlock clasp, which prevents accidental opening, and an ingenious Glidelock, allowing fine adjustments of the bracelet without using any tools.
Rolex Deepsea 136660 Vs 126660
The Rolex Deepsea watch was introduced in 2008 with the reference number 116660. Specially created for professional diving activities, it has a case diameter of 44mm.
The case material and dimensions remain same for Ref. 126660 and Ref. 136660. The movement is also same: Calibre 3235. The visible differences that set apart the new Deepsea reference 136660 from its immediate predecessor are the narrower bezel design, slightly larger date window and the absence of the bracelet’s Fliplock extension link.
