The car is Gunther Werks’ only fully exposed carbon fiber vehicle, and gives a rare glimpse of what lies beneath the exquisite paint job you usually see. The raw carbon fiber – as beautiful as it is strong – is painstakingly hand laid, with every seam and pattern aligned with absolute precision.

REC Watches 901 GW Carbon Exoskeleton

The timepiece takes inspiration from the car in both design and color scheme, and with tones blue and black, with highlights of orange. The model is limited to 188 pieces.

This limited-edition REC “Chelsea Grey” watch features recycled carbon fiber from Gunther Werks’ very first customer commission – the Porsche 993 “Chelsea Grey” Remastered by Gunther Werks.

The “Chelsea Grey ‘’ is Gunther Werks’ very first customer commission – a major milestone for any car manufacturer – and took over three years and thousands of hours of labor to develop.

REC Watches 901 GW Chelsea Grey

Dressed in a stylish gray-and-red color scheme and featuring an exposed carbon fiber dash and red leather interior, this is one jaw-dropping sports car. Limited to 232 pieces, this timepiece takes inspiration from the car in both design and color scheme, with tones of red and grey, with highlights of white.

REC Watches 901 GW Chelsea Grey

Based in Southern California, Gunther Werks was founded by Peter Nam on the principles of passion, performance and a drive to embed modern technologies in a classic masterpiece.

The company put a modern twist on the last air-cooled Porsche 911, the 993, which is considered by many to be the ultimate embodiment of the 911. Gunther Werks’ mission is to modify the DNA of the original car and beef up its performance while retaining the driving experience. During the restomod process, Gunther Werks strips each vehicle back to its frame before dressing it in their own carbon fiber bodywork.

Gunther Werks provided REC Watches with carbon fiber from the “Carbon Exoskeleton” and the “Chelsea Grey” build process. The craftsmen of REC watches then granulated and reforged the donated carbon fiber with new carbon fiber, into the visible middle section of the watch case.

REC Watches 901 GW Chelsea Grey

The two wrist watches also feature a top glass sapphire crystal with 3 layers of anti-reflective coating, BGW9 blue luminous on hour and minute hand and stainless steel caseback with laser-engraving and deep etching.

These timepieces are available on http://www.recwatches.com only. Pre-orders are open now. Price per watch is $2,495 USD. Expected delivery will be in November 2021.

REC Watches RJM Bluebird Limited Edition

Introduced in 2019, the RJM Bluebird by REC Watches incorporate aluminum from the wings of a 1944 Spitfire aircraft that crashed on the Russian Tundra during WW2. This timepiece is limited to 334 pieces.

REC Watches RJM Bluebird Limited Edition

The RJM collection was first introduced in December 2008 as a tribute to the mighty Spitfire aircrafts. The RJM 04 BLUEBIRD is the fourth timepiece from this family. In 1945, a Spitfire aircraft crashed on the Russian tundra during a dogfight. This incredible story is captivated in the RJM 04 BLUEBIRD, which also marks end of an era for the RJM as it completes the collection.

REC Watches RJM Bluebird Limited Edition

The RJM 04 BLUEBIRD features a blue sunburst dial and a blue woven strap, honoring the RAF pilots and their famous blue uniform. The story of how the azure color became synonymous with the uniforms of the British Royal Air Force pre-dates the RAF itself, as the blue fabric was originally manufactured for the Russian army. However due to the Russian Revolution the RAF acquired these uniforms after having been founded in 1918.

REC Watches RJM Bluebird Limited Edition

It sports a 40mm diameter stainless steel case with sapphire crystal top glass and mineral crystal case-back. The mechanical engine that powers this timepiece is a MIYOTA 9015 automatic caliber with a power reserve of more than 40 hours. Its oscillating weight takes inspiration from the spitfire metal rivet construction.

REC Watches RJM Bluebird Limited Edition

In honor of this one-of-a-kind aircraft, the brand has been donating part of the proceeds of every sold RJM timepiece towards the restoration of PT879, the donor Mark IX Spitfire aircraft.

REC Watches RJM Collection

Introduced in December 2018, the RJM Collection offers mechanical timepieces that incorporate salvaged aluminum from PT879 – the only Mark IX Spitfire aircraft ever to return to the UK after being shipped to Russia as part of lend-lease during WW2.

REC Watches RJM Collection

RJM is the world’s first mechanical timepiece that combines authentic salvaged Spitfire aircraft material with both the design of the aircraft itself and the watches worn by the pilots of the WW2 era.

REC Watches RJM Collection

The iconic Supermarine Spitfire aircrafts have been widely celebrated for its crucial role during the Battle of Britain. Still, a handful of the approximately 20,300 Spitfire aircrafts ever built, were never intended to defend the British shores. PT879 was among the approximately 1118 Mark IX Spitfire aircrafts delivered in Murmansk in 1944 as part of the Allied Forces Lend-Lease aid policy to support the Russian war effort. The PT879 crashed on the Russian tundra in a dogfight in 1945.

REC Watches RJM Collection

A lot of Spitfire aircrafts went down over the Russian Tundra and none have come back. More than a half century later, in 1998, the battered aircraft was recovered in Murmansk as a complete but crashed aircraft – having spent 53 years in barn as she was recovered off the Tundra by an unnamed farmer in 1945. Currently, PT879 is undergoing a full restoration by Peter Teichman. An accomplished pilot, Peter has made it his life’s work to restore classic warbirds to their former glory and is uncompromising in restoring the PT879 to the same standards as when she left the factory at Castle Bromwich on the 4th of August 1944.

REC Watches RJM Collection

An impressive number of the PT879’s original parts are to be used in the restoration of the airframe, and more than 500 parts were used in the now renovated fuselage. Even so, there remained considerable aluminum parts of the salvaged PT879 wings which were not suitable for restoration. These parts, authentic pieces of world history featuring original marks and dents, are directly incorporated into the design of the RJM Collection, ensuring that every single RJM timepiece becomes visually unique.

REC Watches RJM Collection

In addition, in honor of this one-of-a-kind aircraft, the brand will be donating part of the proceeds of every sold RJM timepiece towards the restoration of the PT879 in order to make it airworthy.

Presently, the RJM Collection offers three models. These timepieces feature 40 mm diameter stainless steel case. The top glass of the watch is sapphire crystal with AR coating and the case back glass is mineral crystal.

REC Watches 901 RS Limited Edition

Introduced in 2018, the 901 RS limited edition is the first ever stainless steel bracelet watch from REC Watches. This automatic wristwatch incorporates recycled parts from one of the most sought-after and iconic sports cars ever built – the 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7.

REC Watches 901 RS Limited Edition

The REC 901 collection offers timepieces incorporating recycled parts from salvaged Porsche 911’s. This REC 901 timepiece incorporates recycled parts of a legendary Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 made in 1973. The VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) of the donor car is 9113600237.

REC Watches 901 RS Limited Edition

The first owner of the Donor car was none other than the famous German Racing driver Clemens Schickentanz, who won both the GT European Championship and several World Championship rounds in the GT class. After sometime, the German rally driver Peter Rumpfkeil brought this car. During his 3-year ownership the car participated in several rallies, including the prestigious Monte Carlo Rally in the years 1976 and 1977 and Lombard RAC Rally in 1976.

Donor car for REC Watches 901 RS Limited Edition watch

In 1982 the battered 911 RS was acquired by Danish car enthusiast Jørgen Schultz, who initially was completely unaware of the rarity of the car. When he became aware that the car he had acquired was an original Carrera RS, he began restoring it over the next 3 decades until he finally sold the car in 2015, leaving several unusable parts most of which are now incorporated in the Limited Edition 901-RS watch. The details are all included in the scannable storycard, which accompanies every 901 RS Limited Edition timepiece.

The ’73 air-cooled Carrera RS 2.7 was the first 911-derived race car and the first production race 911 widely offered to the public. Only 1,580 were produced and prices on those still around have since skyrocketed, making it one the most sought-after and legendary sports cars ever built.

REC Watches 901 RS Limited Edition

The 901 RS is the very first timepiece from REC Watches introduced on a metal bracelet. This one-of-a- kind stainless steel bracelet follows the curvature lines of the 901 case shape – taking inspiration from the characteristic soft, curving corners of the classic Porsche 911.

REC Watches 901 RS Limited Edition

The dial of the 901 RS is cut directly from a 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS and coated with a grey, semitransparent lacquer, ensuring that no two dials are identical. The 901 RS black and yellow color scheme is a tribute to the original colors of the donor vehicle.

REC Watches 901 RS Limited Edition caseback

The case-back of the watch is inspired by the iconic 911 Otto Fuchs Rims – including the rotor decoration resembling drilled brake discs.

REC Watches 901 RS Limited Edition case back view

The 901 RS is engraved with the ‘VIN’ (Vehicle Identification Number) of its organ donor. The crown is designed to mirror the horn cap of the early 911 steering wheels.

REC Watches 901 RS Limited Edition

The REC 901RS watch houses a Miyota Cal. 9100 Automatic movement that drives three timekeeping hands, Calendar (day, date & month) and the power reserve display positioned at 12 o’ clock. The movement has a power reserve of approximately 40 hours. Its 44mm diameter stainless steel case is fitted with a sapphire crystal front glass and a solid case-back featuring K1 mineral crystal glass.

REC Watches

Based in Copenhagen, REC is a young watch brand that incorporates a radically different approach to the art of creating wristwatches, by handpicking historically iconic objects and recycling them into charming new timepieces.

REC Watches was founded in 2011 by passionate watch lovers Christian Mygh and Jonathan Kamstrup. The brand takes inspiration from any old everyday objects found all around us. They identify, recover and recycle old and out-of-use objects, and reclaim these as part of brand new timepieces and each REC watch comes with a visible uniqueness, a sense of sustainability, and a heart warming or fascinating story to tell.

Concept

  • RECOVER: REC Watches identifies and recovers out-of-use objects. Careful attention is paid to the condition and individual history of the object.
  • RECYCLE: The object is preserved and carefully made into parts, so it fits into a timepiece.
  • RECLAIM: Watches are produced which incorporate the object. As a result REC Watches has a completely unique look and design.

What really marks REC Watches out are the personalities the accessory can convey. Each watch stands out as unique thanks to distinct individualities in the metal surface of each face. The finger prints like rarities in the material can be traced back by the VIN number on the back: telling the particular story of each watch’s recycled components. These watches can be further individualized with an easily changed watch strap, accommodating the accessory to fit with the casual, formal or sports occasions of the owner.

REC Watches – Current Collections
1. REC Mark I
Inspired by the classic elliptical dashboard of the Mark I Minis, the Mark I watch is a tribute to one of the most characteristic elements of the little iconic car. As the very first Mini to hit the pavement on a larger scale, the Mark I has in many ways become synonymous with the joyful 60’s, and was a favourite among both celebrities and the working class.

Here REC transfers the elliptical shape of the dashboard to the design of this timepiece, such that it encircles the two chronographs, providing a “dashboard within the watch”.

The remaining dial is produced exclusively from recycled Mini metal, and will feature very distinct and visible imperfections, providing an altogether unique feel to the watch.

  • Handcrafted recycled metal dial
  • Back case with link to dial’s origin
  • Circular and vertical brushed stainless steel case (44,3 mm)
  • OS21 Miyota movement with 24H indicator, 60-minute chronograph and date
  • Mineral Glass Crystal
  • Elegant genuine leather strap
  • Accompanying custom and sporty nylon strap M1

2. REC Cooper
The Cooper watch is influenced by the distinctive bonnet stripes of the Mini Cooper. While these “stripes” perhaps became most commonly known through the movie “The Italian Job”, they have since become very popular with both new and classic Mini Cooper owners. Being such a definitive and minimalistic feature of the Mini, it was an obvious choice to subtly incorporate in this design, and thus the Cooper watch was born.

The recycled Mini metal dial is complimented by the two familiar racing stripes, as well as the indicators. Having won multiple famous races, including the prestigious Rally Monte Carlo 3 times, the Mini Cooper has a rich history of its own. Therefore this watch is not only a tribute to the Coopers impressive pedigree, but equally to its minimalistic ideals.

  • Handcrafted recycled metal dial
  • Back case with link to dial’s origin
  • Circular and vertical brushed stainless steel case (42,5 mm)
  • Gold Plated, 5 Jewels, Caliber 763 Ronda Swiss Movement
  • Mineral Glass Crystal
  • Elegant genuine leather strap
  • Accompanying custom and sporty nylon strap C1

3. REC Minimalist
The inspiration for the Minimalist watch is derived from the very ideals of the classic Mini itself. Born out of inflated fuel prices during the Suez Crisis, the classic Mini simply necessitated a thrifty and innovative design. Sir Alec Issigonis’ result was a small, frugal car with impressive handling, which despite its small dimensions could fit in up to four people and their luggage. Little did he know that his invention would subsequently be produced in over 25 million units, and be considered one of the most innovative and revolutionary vehicles of all time.

Thus, while both the Cooper and Mark I timepieces feature subtle design references to the recycled metals origin, the approach for the Minimalist was somewhat different. Keeping in line with the brand’s Danish heritage, the fundamental approach to the design of this watch was to create a, just like the car, minimalistic and to-the-point timepiece.
