Rado Captain Cook Chronograph

The new Captain Cook Chronograph from Rado fuses most modern design, technology and style. It boasts updated, exquisite proportions thanks to a unique, slimmer automatic movement.

Rado has launched three variants of the new Captain Cook chronograph, in distinct shades and strap/bracelet configurations sure to please even the most demanding enthusiasts. Two models are in stainless steel and one in bronze.

The new Captain Cook Chronograph is mounted with the characteristic box-shaped glass, in scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both faces.

The thinner, more comfortable and stylish 43mm case comes in either polished stainless steel or circular-brushed bronze. The polished high-tech ceramic inlay on the bezel, in blue or black, is a perfect complement to the flange and the dial colour of the particular model.

Presented in a silver-to-blue gradient, silver-to-black or blue sunray finish, the dial features appliquéd indices, markers and numerals. The key elements are treated with Super-LumiNova® for excellent readability even in low-light conditions.

In particular, the hour hand, with its bold and characteristic arrowhead tip, and the minute hand, strong and unmistakeable, as well as the red-tipped chronograph seconds sweeper, allow easy timekeeping in any exploration or journey, in the city or the great outdoors.

The anchor symbol remains a delightful touch, in rhodium colour against a red backplate on this rugged and reliable timepiece, whose features now include a chronograph dial at 9 and standard seconds at 3 o’clock, in perfect visual equilibrium with the lower date window at 6 o’clock.

The date itself is displayed in red against silver, in keeping with former models. Inside, the new, thinner R801 automatic movement, with 37 jewels, five hands and 59 hours of power reserve thanks to a NivachronTM anti-magnetic hairspring, exceeds standard accuracy test requirements by as much as five positions.

Water resistance to 30 bar is assured by a screw-down case back, screw-in crown and pushbuttons, and Rado’s predictably unwavering high-quality production technics.

The new Captain Cook Chronograph is delivered with two additional straps in different materials and shades, according to the specific model.

The two stainless steel models come with a matching three-row stainless steel bracelet with brushed central links and extensible folding clasp, and an additional coffee-brown or blue leather strap with contrasting stitching, as well as a sporty NATO-style, woven nylon strap, in blue or black, with steel pin-buckle closure.

The bronze-coloured Rado Captain Cook Chronograph model comes with a NATO-style strap with a gold-coloured stripe down the centre, as well as a blue leather strap with accent stitching, and an additional NATO-style strap in deep blue, all with bronze pin-buckle closure.

The new Captain Cook Chronograph comes in a special case inspired by the built-to-last, two-strapped treasure chests of ancient explorers and navigators.

Protected by a tough, black diver-nylon outer covering, the wooden (FSC) box is equipped with metal hardware, around a soft ivory-coloured interior where your spare straps can be safely stored, along with your favourite Rado, when not in use.

Rado Captain Cook Over-Pole Limited Edition

Introduced in 1962, the “Over-Pole Worldtimer” watch by Rado was dedicated to globetrotters. This iconic timepiece featured a turning bezel with the key cities of the world, for quick estimation of the time in those locations.

To mark the anniversary of this popular timepiece of the 60s, Rado has launched a new Captain Cook Over-Pole Limited Edition, updated with the brand’s latest technological features, while preserving the “vintage” look.

The totally-modern workings are housed in a polished stainless-steel case, around which the key elements of the original design are clearly recognizable, such as the inward-sloping bezel with city names, the classic red date-numeral at 3 o’clock and the box-shaped glass, always a conversation piece.

In the reissue, the bezel carries a black, polished high-tech-ceramic insert with laser engraving, for the city names, and the new glass is sapphire crystal, treated on both faces with anti-reflective coating. Real watch-lovers will marvel at the tactile, hands-on quality of the new model, thanks to its action-ready, explorer-centred, manually-wound movement.

The screw-down case back now also includes its own sapphire crystal, showing the mention “Limited Edition” and the timepiece’s edition unit number.

Successful reissues of any iconic object typically retain key features, while updating those which technology has found smart ways of improving. As the “Master of Materials”, Rado has solid experience in evolving its product line in keeping with innovations in materials, design and production techniques.

The new Over-Pole model is a perfect example. The edition will be produced as an exclusive series of 1962 units, with a manual-winding movement that provides an impressive 80 hours of power reserve. The movement, equipped with a NivachronTM antimagnetic hairspring, was chosen for its distinctive reliability and accuracy, and allows the new Over-Pole to exceed test requirements by five full points.

The new Rado Captain Cook Over-Pole Limited Edition is delivered in a stylish brown pouch with a second bracelet, in rice-grain-style stainless steel, quickly interchangeable for a different look, thanks to the EasyClip system.

Rado Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Diver

Rado presents the new Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Diver, an ISO 6425 certified diving timepiece equipped with a new generation self-winding movement. Its stunning high-tech ceramic monobloc case is scratch-resistant, hypo-allergenic and practically invulnerable.

This much-awaited model, available in six equally impressive variants, brings together the latest in high-tech ceramic production technics and the brand’s most innovative watchmaking. The 43 mm timepiece houses a latest-generation automatic movement, NivachronTM anti-magnetic hairspring and 80 hours of power reserve.

This timepiece boasts emblematic Captain Cook features such as the date window at 3 o’clock with red numbers and the box-shaped glass, now in extremely scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both faces.

Large, highly-legible hour, minute and second hands are treated with Super-LumiNova for excellent viewing in low-light conditions, along with the main markers and bezel numerals. The new model features ISO 6425 certification, a first for Rado, largely surpassed thanks to its 300-meter water resistance.

Rooted in nature but developed by keen human innovation, Rado high-tech ceramic is extremely hard but light, lovely to touch, and carries its visible colour right into the core, making it extraordinarily scratch-resistant. The use of a monobloc case adds to the structural stability of the timepiece while keeping its outer dimensions and weight lower, for greater comfort.

Visually, well-known Captain Cook features are instantly recognizable: the bold, easy-grip bezel with circular-brushed high-tech ceramic insert, engraved numbers and markers, as well as a triangle in white Super-LumiNova at the 60-min. position.

The circular-brushed titanium press-fit case back with two seahorses adds an echo of early Sixties models and an unequivocal reminder of the water resistance, confirmed by the ISO 6425 certification granted to these exceptional timepieces. Inside, the Rado 25-jewel, three-hand R763 automatic movement exceeds standard accuracy test requirements by a full five points.

The new Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Diver comes in six models, each one with a distinct character, to match the most discerning tastes of true watch lovers.

While all carry cases in Rado high-tech ceramic, two models wear black and two wear olive-green, each pair available as either a rubber-strap or high-tech ceramic-bracelet version. Two additional plasma models are available, with matching high-tech ceramic bracelet.

Rado Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Pink Dial Project

Rado is participating in the special auction “The Pink Dial Project”, organised to mark Breast Cancer Awareness month, in October 2021. Created by Revolution and other key industry publications, the event will raise funds for research, treatment and greater awareness for this important cause.

Along with a number of other high-end brands, Rado will contribute a one-off version of its famous Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic timepiece, with special pink detailing as well as commemorative markings.

The Captain Cook model is one of Rado’s most iconic timepieces. Bold and expressive in design, it is also built using the most cutting-edge technologies: a matt plasma high-tech ceramic case with monobloc construction, an R734 automatic movement with an 80-hour power reserve and Nivachron™ antimagnetic hairspring, as well as a contrasting matt/polished plasma ceramic-link bracelet and a titanium triple-fold clasp with Ceramos™ release.

Apart from its unique trim, this one-of-a-kind timepiece will be identical to the original model, with the same high-end R734 movement with 80-hour power reserve, a boxed sapphire crystal with antireflective coating on both faces, as well as a contrasting matt/polished plasma ceramic-link bracelet and a titanium triple-fold clasp with Ceramos™ release.

For the fundraising special event “The Pink Dial Project”, the one-off timepiece to be auctioned will feature, inside the stainless steel bezel with matt plasma ceramic insert, a stunning pink flange to honour the colour internationally associated with breast cancer. Neatly, the colour complements the ruby backplate and rhodium tone of the moving-anchor symbol beautifully.

Its case-back will also carry an engraved, special decoration with the organiser’s “REVOLUTION” logo and the mention “UNIQUE PIECE” to ensure that the event and charitable cause will long be remembered.

Other features such as the box-shaped sapphire crystal with antireflective coating on both faces, the appliquéd indices and rhodium-coloured hands, both treated with white Super-LumiNova®, and water resistance to a pressure of 30 bar (300m) are identical to those of other Captain Cook models.

Rado True Square “Over the Abyss”, in collaboration with Thukral and Tagra

Swiss watch brand Rado presents its newest addition to the True Square Collection, the True Square “Over the Abyss”, designed by New Delhi artist duo Thukral and Tagra.

Jiten Thukral and Sumir Tagra’s work focuses on something that is intrinsic to humans but sometimes forgotten in modern societies: the relationship of us individuals to our communities. This is why their work is often described as social design. The duo always tries to understand their existence and questions the status quo, thus naming their work: Over the abyss.

The Indian duo included their focus on social design to create together with the Master of Materials a timepiece with a unique time display that superimposes the local time of the wearer to several time zones of the world.

These different time zones are symbolized by 37 hands that are painted in a gradation of colours ranging from blue to pink, and looking like enchanting fireworks in the middle of the dial. Two discrete but powerful SuperLuminova dots indicate the local time.

The captivating dial with colour strikes is encapsulated by a 38mm matt blue high-tech ceramic case of square shape with gently rounded corners, an homage to Rado’s iconic shape from the 70s and updated for the 21st century.

The case back features a painting by the duo called Dominus Aeries that explores visions from the future with references from the past. Therefore, both front and back of this timepiece are beautiful art expressions of Thukral and Tagra.

About Thukral & Tagra

Jiten Thukral and Sumir Tagra from India form the art and design practice Thukral and Tagra. Their work is primarily manifested in painting, sculpture and art installations through which they try to paint a vision of the future which is compelling, comforting and engaging.

Their earlier work dealt with tropes of migration and motifs of a globally manifested consumer culture and their recent work has dealt with the interpretation of Indian mythological narratives and symbols.

Their 18 year trajectory and unique design eye have allowed them to participate in numerous exhibitions across the world, and have made them one of the most compelling and sought after Indian artists.

Rado True Square x Yuan Youmin, True Heart

To design this exceptional timepiece, Yuan Youmin – graphic designer, lecturer and curator – has drawn inspiration from traditional elements of his homeland China.

This new Rado True Square design collaboration watch evokes the fascinating cultural history of China, combined with modern minimalism. The traditional steelyard served as a motif. This important measuring instrument has been anchored into Chinese everyday life for almost two thousand years. It consists of a rod with markings, a weighing tray and a movable counterweight.

The new watch picks up on some of these elements stylised in its design. The recessed, round dial in the centre, for example, represents the weighing tray, the lever arms of the steelyard become the slender hands, and the traditional hexadecimal dot graduation serves as the basis for the design of the hour markings.

Their yellow gold colour has also been chosen carefully. It traditionally stands for the pure heart and honesty of the tradesman working with the steelyard.

The four segments that connect the round dial with the angular case feature polished black lacquer, a further classic Chinese technique. Yuan ultimately chose the image of a phoenix, the famous symbol of eternal rebirth, for the case back of the watch.

The craftsmanship of the watch is just as refined and sophisticated as its design. The basis was the new ground-breaking True Square – the first watch made from solid high-tech ceramic with rounded edges, whose flowing shapes are created using injection moulding. It unmistakably bears the signature of the watchmaker from Lengnau and impresses with pioneering materials, innovative design, scratch-proof longevity and a pleasant, sensual feel.

The new Rado True Square x Yuan Youmin is driven by a Swiss-made automatic calibre with an 80-hour power reserve.

About Yuan Youmin

Graphic designer Yuan Youmin was born in Anhui, China, in 1971. He is a professor at the China Academy of Art and Director of the China Design Museum. His agency is called STUDIO0909. He also works as a curator and art director and has previously supported Rado during Shanghai Design Week.

Rado Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic

The Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic watch is the result of many years of research and development together with the history and tradition of the Rado Captain Cook.

This new diving timepiece features some of the brand’s most stellar achievements such as Rado’s innovative high-tech ceramic monobloc case construction, scratch-resistant and hypoallergenic high-tech ceramic. It is powered by the premium Rado calibre R734 featuring a Nivachron™ hairspring, renowned for its antimagnetic properties.

The Captain Cook Ceramic is presented for the first time in a case size of 43mm, and in four versions. All of them have 30 bar (300m) water resistance.

A first version in black high-tech ceramic case and bracelet with a hardened stainless steel turning bezel and black high-tech ceramic insert.

A second model holds this same case and dial but is offered with a rubber strap for those who prefer a more casual look.

A third version is offered similarly in black high-tech ceramic case and bracelet but with contrasting rose gold coloured PVD coated stainless steel turning bezel, and black high-tech ceramic insert.

Followed by the fourth model, a highly distinct plasma high-tech ceramic case and bracelet, with hardened stainless steel bezel, and blue high-tech ceramic insert.

All the references are powered by the Rado self-winding calibre R734, which offers an impressive 80 hours power reserve.

The dial and case back are stunningly crafted in black tinted sapphire crystal allowing its wearer to explore and admire the inner workings of the skeletonised movement in a subtle manner, whilst still proving to be legible.

As the triangle on the bezel, the indexes, and the classic Captain Cook chunky arrow hands on the dial are filled with white Super-LumiNova® providing clear visibility in the dark. This magnificent sapphire dial is also home to the iconic Rado rotating anchor at 12 o’clock, and is protected by a chevé box sapphire crystal.

Rado True Thinline Stillness with Li Edelkoort

In partnership with renowned trend researcher Li Edelkoort, Rado created the True Thinline Stillness watch.

Li Edelkoort is one of the most well-known trend researchers of our time. Her accurate analyses not only offer insights into current trends, but also sketch out a vision of tomorrow’s society. She currently sees an increasing need to slow down the pace.

Rado has been in close contact with the Dutch trend researcher for many years. Now, for the first time, Li Edelkoort is presenting a timepiece in her name together with the Swiss watchmaker.

The flowing shapes of the ultra-flat True Thinline served as inspiration, combining two of the Swiss brand’s most prominent innovations: scratch-resistant high-tech ceramic and the pioneering monobloc construction.

The watch is presented for the first time in the new Rado packaging, which is all about reusability. Its centrepiece is a small high-quality box made from recycled plastic that can be used as a travel case. It is accompanied by a card holder made from black cardboard. Instructions for use are omitted in favour of a QR code.

Overall, the new model delivers a modern interpretation of the design concept “less is more”. The 5 mm thin, warm-white high-tech ceramic case measuring 39 mm in diameter is adorned with a titanium back with sapphire crystal, which bears the words “STILLNESS Lidewij Edelkoort SINCE 2020”.

A white dial is presented under curved white frosted-effect sapphire crystal. White hour and minute hands, a transparent Rado logo and a high-tech ceramic bracelet in a matching colour complete the monochromatic look of this contemporary Swiss-made quartz watch.

She is the Dean of Hybrid Design Studies at Parsons in New York where she has founded a Textile Masters and the New York Textile Month festival each September.

Edelkoort has been named one of the most influential people in fashion by TIME Magazine and Business of Fashion, and is widely considered one of the most influential people in contemporary design. Rado True Square Undigital

Swiss watch brand Rado presents the True Square Undigital watch in collaboration with the Japanese design duo YOY.

The True Square Undigital watch combines two real design icons. The angular bars of the digital display meet the square Rado ceramic watch.

The digital display and the square Rado ceramic watch: both were the epitome of futuristic designs in the 1980s. YOY likes to use such well-known greats and gives them a completely new meaning, creative, clever and humorous. Just like its vision of the Rado True Square.

The Undigital plays with the distinctive shapes of the seven-segment display – the classic face of a digital watch – and transfers them to the analogue time display with hands. Luminous white Super-LumiNova clearly stands out, both during the day and in the dark, from the matt black dial, which has a completely puristic appearance.

The unique high-tech ceramic case of the True Square provides the appropriate setting and, thanks to its innovative monobloc construction, is ultra-flat at only 9.6 mm high. The matt black PVD-coated titanium back and the smooth, matt black high-tech ceramic bracelet also contribute to the low weight of the watch.

Style icons, contemporary design talents, innovative manufacturing technologies and high-tech materials that impress with a unique feel, durability and scratch resistance: the Rado True Square Undigital combines everything that makes Rado what it is. The watch is driven by a modern mechanical movement whose automatic winding is not only a work of art in itself but also a role model in terms of sustainability – in other words, completely undigital.

YOY is a Tokyo-based design studio founded in 2011 by Naoki Ono and Yuki Yamamoto. Under the motto “Between space and object”, they are dedicated to the design of furniture, lighting and interior decoration. Their work can be found all over the world, such as at MoMA. YOY has been awarded numerous international prizes around the world and has been teaching at Musashino Art University since 2015.

Rado True Square x Tej Chauhan

Rado has partnered with the award-winning British industrial designer Tej Chauhan to create this special edition watch. With flowing shapes, innovative high-tech ceramic and bold colours, the Rado True Square Tej Chauhan visualises the great futuristic visions of pop culture.

The basis was the new, ground-breaking True Square – the first square watch made from solid high-tech ceramic, whose flowing shapes are created using injection moulding. The matt yellow high-tech ceramic case highlights the unique texture of the high-performance material and is combined with a case back in polished dark grey PVD-coated stainless steel with sapphire crystal and special engraving.

It is complemented by a bracelet made from yellow cushion-shaped leather elements held by high-tech ceramic connectors. A stainless steel folding clasp with a dark grey PVD coating completes the composition.

On the matt black dial with silver-coloured concentric circles, the hands provide strong contrasts from the centre: the minute and hour hands are painted in white, the second hand in neon red. They are powered by a modern automatic calibre. In an opening at 3 o’clock, the date is displayed in a typography specially designed by Tej Chauhan.

Blue indexes between 9 and 12 o’clock refer to the time of day when things start moving – in the morning at the office or in the evening on a night out. Faceted sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on the inside provides the best insights and impresses as an independent design element.

About Tej Chauhan

Tej Chauhan is an award-winning British industrial designer known for his “emotive industrial design”: shape, colour and material are used strategically to create objects that bring joy. In his offices in London and Helsinki, a team of creative specialists works on a wide range of media and disciplines in the areas of industrial design, product development, creative brand strategy and future studies. Rado True Square Formafantasma

Swiss watch brand Rado has collaborated with award-winning Italian-Dutch designers Andrea Trimarchi and Simone Farresin to create the True Square Formafantasma automatic wristwatch with square shaped, high-tech ceramic case.

Taking the base of the ground-breaking new full high-tech ceramic True Square, this special design edition draws on the historic idea of a closed watch to create a bold and impactful style statement that is designed to stand the test of time.

The idea of the closed watch refers back to historical pocket watches. The housing of the watch was made to protect the delicate dial and mechanism inside. Only a small opening gave a glimpse of the time – the true function of the watch. The watch houses a high-quality Swiss-made automatic three-hand movement with a power reserve of 80 hours.

The True Square Formafantasma uses an extra layer of high-tech ceramic as the ultimate scratch-resistant protective layer in which a small window for the dial has been made. The window itself is protected by sapphire crystal, yet another super scratch-resistant layer.

The bracelet is also matt light grey high-tech ceramic titanium with a comfortable 3-fold clasp, and the titanium case back is hypoallergenic. They were all chosen for their tactility and embrace a distinct, unusual light grey tone-on-tone approach. The design comes not only from the inspiration of pocket watches, but also from the name of the design duo themselves. The ghostly appearance comes from both the monochromatic light grey construction and the ‘floating’ presence of the dial through the small aperture.

Studio Formafantasma represents two Italian designers – Andrea Trimarchi and Simone Farresin – based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. In perceiving their role as a bridge between craft, industry, object and user, they are interested in forging links between their research-based practice and a wider design industry.

Whether designing or investigating alternative applications of materials, Studio Formafantasma apply the same rigorous attention to context, process and detail to every project they undertake. The added nuance for the duo is that they do so with an eye to the historical, political and social forces, which have shaped their environments. Their work has been presented and published internationally and museums have all acquired Formafantasma’s designs for their permanent collections.

Rado True Thinline Anima Limited Edition

Rado presents True Thinline Anima, a new limited edition of the True Thinline Automatic made from olive green high-tech ceramic. It is lightweight and scratch-resistant. Transparent and complex, this ultra-thin mechanical watch gives the zeitgeist a new face.

The True Thinline Anima brings together some of the brand’s most important material innovations. This open-worked watch with high-tech ceramic case is presented in a completely new shade: matt olive green – the magnificent result of an elaborate development process.

The lightweight high-tech ceramic meets kindred spirits in the new special model limited to 2020 pieces. The watch houses an ETA A31.L02 automatic movement featuring date at 6 o’clock and skeletonised calendar disc.

The bridges and plates of its automatic movement are made from black anodised aluminium, which further reduces the weight of the watch.

The matt olive green dial, extensively skeletonised, provides in-depth insights into its mechanical inner workings. The same applies to the date window at 6 o’clock, the skeletonised calendar disc of which is cleverly exposed.

Rado Golden Horse 1957 Automatic Limited Edition

Rado recreates its iconic Golden Horse 1957 watch with a pristine new look whilst maintaining its vintage characteristics. A true homage to the original, this new timepiece is limited to 1957 pieces.

An iconic timepiece not only because of its emblematic design, but also as the watch name states, 1957 signifies a key milestone for Rado – it was the year the Swiss watchmaker released for the first time watches under the Rado brand name.

This special timepiece incorporates some of Rado’s most precious vintage characteristics. The Golden Horse 1957 comes with the original indexes and hands, the two traditional golden seahorses just above six O’clock, and the red date at three O’clock, – an emblematic feature of Rado watches from the 60s and 70s. A box-shaped sapphire crystal, replacing the polymer glass used in the past, secures the deep blue or lush green dials.

The colour gradient dial highlight Rado’s classic red anchor, an original feature from the past that signified the watch was automatic. The steel case back is adorned with 3 stamped seahorses and a special engraving stating: LIMITED EDITION ONE OUT OF 1957.

It comes in a 37mm diameter polished stainless steel case and houses an ETA C07.611 movement. This timepiece is paired with a vintage style rice-grain bracelet that perfectly accommodates to the wrist of the wearer.

Rado True Square Collection

In February 2020, Rado launched their True Square collection worldwide with 15 eye-catching new references.

Designed to look good for a lifetime, the True Square is made using ultra-pure Rado high-tech ceramic in black, white and plasma. These timepieces are smooth, light and comfortable to wear.

In 1990, Rado made the Ceramica, the Swiss brand’s most iconic square watch. Its distinctive black, shiny, square design is a result of manipulating the ceramic by pressing it. Now, 30 years later, Rado presents a square monobloc case using the pioneering injection moulding technology.

Featuring a full high-tech ceramic case and bracelet construction, the True Square is an enduring new icon, designed to stand the test of time, to look good for life and to speak to a new generation that is looking to buy less but buy better.

With this new True Square collection, Rado launches the first ever square high-tech ceramic watch with an injected monobloc case.

Rado True Square Open Heart (New models with high-tech ceramic case and skeletonised dial)

In 2020, Rado is expanding their True Square collection by introducing new Open Heart models. The True Square Open Heart is the only square, high-tech ceramic watch with a skeletonised dial. The watch offers a clear view of the C07 movement through the beautifully crafted dial.

The square watch has long been an iconic look closely associated with Rado, but it appears for the first time in 2020 in an injected monobloc high-tech ceramic case. Three new ‘open heart’ watches are presented in signature Rado glossy black, gleaming white and pioneering plasma.

It’s like looking back into the glorious past but with technology and high-tech materials that could only be produced in the 21st century. The watch houses an automatic ETA C07.631 movement with 80 hours of power reserve.

The monobloc case with its gently rounded corners is both enduring and a truly modern, comfortable, ergonomic shape. The movement and movement holder feature some of the best-loved traditional watchmakers’ decorations (Circular grain decoration visible through the open-heart and Côtes de Genève decoration of movement holder) and the jewels that reduce friction.

Front glass of the watch is a flat sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides. The rear-side of the watch is secured with a black PVD coated or sand-blasted titanium case back with sapphire crystal.

Rado DiaMaster Collection for Women – DiaMaster Ceramos and DiaMaster Moonphase

Rado is well-known for its balanced collection which offers an equal range of watches for women as for men. With the classic, minimalist DiaMaster collection, Rado is showing a softer side – even with the highest levels of hardness and durability.

In the new DiaMaster Ceramos models, high-quality, Swiss made quartz movements ensure lightness and accuracy as well as a super slim profile. The rose gold coloured material Ceramos is an amazing, scratch-resistant mix of 90% high-tech ceramic and 10% metal alloy. The monobloc case is just 5.3 mm thick and less than 38 mm in diameter. It’s a great fit for all wrist sizes.

The mother-of-pearl dial, 48 Top Wesselton diamonds and pearl effect stamped leather strap added to the Ceramos case is a complicated combination only Rado can achieve.

Joining the Ceramos models as part of the feminine new collection is the brand new DiaMaster Moonphase. Presented in durable plasma high-tech ceramic, these watches show the brand’s expertise in a range of rich jewel tones that contrast beautifully with the familiar minimalist DiaMaster design.

A mother-of-pearl dial ring surrounded by 21 Top Wesselton diamonds is the centrepiece of the watch and is the perfect foil to the all-new moonphase indicator. The Rado EasyClip system allows you to exchange the leather strap quickly and easily to personalise the watch for a truly unique look.

Rado True Thinline Deep Web Limited Edition: Flora Miranda for Rado

Rado presents True Thinline Deep Web watch, created in partnership with the Belgian-based Austrian fashion designer Flora Miranda as part of the 2019 Rado Designer Series.

The Swiss watchmaker follows the success of its 2017 designer collaborations with a raft of new limited editions and the True Thinline Deep Web is the latest creation in this project.

Using her True Thinline as a blank canvas for self-expression, Flora, the winner of Rado Star Prize Austria 2017, created the dreamlike Deep Web. Under the sapphire crystal, two transparent discs sit on top of each other. Each disc has a metallic coloured web pattern. As the discs overlap, an illusion of hands is created. It is a truly futuristic and ethereal approach to telling the time.

Unlike the other models in the series, the Deep Web is powered by an automatic movement, which was required to ensure there is enough momentum to power the overlapping discs that sit under the box-shaped sapphire crystal. As a result, the watch is very slightly bigger than the other watches in the Designer Series.

The True Thinline Deep Web in polished black high-tech ceramic with innovative turning disc hands is available in a limited edition of 1,001 pieces, each with a special case back engraving.

About Flora Miranda

A graduate of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Austrian-born Belgian-based fashion designer Flora Miranda won the Rado Star Prize Austria in 2017. Since then, she has continued to develop her unique aesthetic, which focuses on the human being, the body, senses and perception performing in an actual or virtual reality. She is breaking down boundaries in fashion and aims to create deep dreams, desires and motives. She embraces experimentation and explores techniques that are detached from design tradition or history. She is the first Rado Star Prize winner to design a watch for Rado.

Rado True Thinline My Bird Limited Edition

Rado presents a special edition watch created in collaboration with the renowned Russian artist and designer Evgenia Miro.

Symbolism, tradition, opulence and colour are the hallmarks of the work of Evgenia Miro. Drawing on emblems and motifs that trace their origins back through centuries of storytelling, Evgenia creates beautiful designs that she applies to a range of materials to create enduring pieces designed to stand the test of time.

From decorated silks to delicate china, Evgenia has now progressed to working on a micro scale with high-tech ceramic for the watch she has co-created with pioneering Swiss watchmaker Rado. Considered the most forward-thinking design player in the watch industry, Rado worked closely with Evgenia as she brought her unique vision and perspective to a watch collection that is known for its slim silhouette, confident construction and the way it revolutionised traditional watchmaking on its debut in 2011.

Created in durable and scratch-resistant high-tech ceramic, the familiar monobloc case and bracelet of the True Thinline collection feature precision laser engravings of a delicate and distinctive feather pattern. Evgenia’s unique concept sees the bird’s feather creating a new philosophy of time with its lightness and dynamic rhythm of fine lines.

She believes we are at our most active and productive between 1 o’clock and 7 o’clock and she chose to place the feather diagonally across the dial at these points to express this. The feather is also a symbol of the lightness of high-tech ceramic. Using the deep rich blue that she believes has a deep philosophical and symbolic meaning, Evgenia’s True Thinline is designed to communicate wisdom, nobility and spirituality. The strong, deep colour is complemented by contrasting rose gold coloured hands and the metallised Rado logo.

To Evgenia, the symbol of the bird stands for tenderness, wisdom and refinement as well as for freedom and she chose to place it on the case back where it is worn next to the skin. The bird she has chosen is opulent and proud, its red and gold plumage symbolising warmth and light – a theme often seen in her work. The bird is digitally printed on the sapphire crystal case back – a first at Rado.

The Rado True Thinline My Bird Limited Edition is one of the latest models in a series of designer collaborations for Rado, a multi award-winning designer in its own right. Featuring watches co-created with renowned designers from a range of design disciplines, Rado cements its claim as the go-to brand in watch design.

About Evgenia Miro

Russian artist and designer Evgenia Miro graduated from the St. Petersburg Academy of Decorative and Fine Arts with honours in 1998. A year later, she joined the Union of Artists and Designers of Russia. With a focus on colour and symbolism, she continued to develop and exhibit her work around the world. In 2009, following a period of further study at the School of Arts in London, she moved to Paris where she now has an atelier.

One of the key themes in her work is time, and she is known for her design collaborations which use materials including silk and fine bone china. Now Evgenia has created more than 500 collections. She was honoured by the cultural association, LA RENAISSANCE FRANCAISE for her contribution to French culture.

Rado Tradition Captain Cook MKIII Automatic

The eye-catching Tradition Captain Cook MKIII is a timepiece that retains the vintage look of the original 1962 Captain Cook, but adds a modern touch, with details such as an XXL case size and black textile strap.

Inspired by the 1962 original, the MKIII is ready for any adventure. State-of-the-art elements ensure that the MKIII is prepared for whatever you encounter, whether sailing on the open sea or navigating through rush hour traffic. The light, hardened grade 5 titanium construction features excellent scratch resistance, ideal for challenging environments and the luminous dial makes for easy readability in any situation, above and below the waves.

In reworking the bold, functional look of the original Captain Cook to suit the preferences of modern wearers, Rado has not sacrificed comfort in the name of style. The lug-less case design means the MKIII fits all wrist sizes, while the convex rotating turning bezel, used for measuring elapsed minute intervals, will ensure you never lose track of time.

Presented on a sporty textile strap, closer inspection of the MKIII reveals avant-garde touches behind the vintage look. The box-shaped sapphire crystal glass covers a dial with a day date function. The movement features a power reserve of up to 80 hours and the MKIII is water resistant to 22 bar (220 metres).

Rado Tradition Captain Cook MKII Automatic Limited Edition

Since 1957, Rado has been producing watches designed to stand the test of time and, since the launch of the Golden Horse in 1958, to stand the test of the elements when water-resistant watches were far from the norm.

Building on this base, 1962 saw the introduction of an early diver’s model that now makes a welcome comeback to the Rado collection in a reimagined version that is true to the look and feel of the original.

The Captain Cook MKII was first launched with an impressive 22 bar (220m) water resistance rating and an inner turning bezel capable of measuring up to 80 minutes of elapsed dive time. The reimagined Captain Cook MKII, retains these impressive features, whilst incorporating a whole lot more.

At first glance the Captain Cook MKII bears an uncanny resemblance to the 1962 original, with its red and white inner bezel and natural coloured Super-LumiNova® dots. On closer inspection however, the matt black dial and sleek rhodium coloured dial elements update the Captain Cook MKII for the twenty-first century.

Durable and versatile, the MKII features an easy-change strap system. This allows the wearer to change between the seven-row ‘rice grain’, polished stainless steel bracelet and the black NATO strap. It’s a feature that makes the MKII a timepiece capable of slipping from on-duty to off-duty in a matter of seconds.

The changes to the new Captain Cook MKII are not only on the surface. The much loved metallised anchor in the dial now sits within a sapphire crystal. Super-LumiNova® painted applied indexes ensure optimum readability in even the most challenging conditions. And, with the quality Swiss automatic movement featuring up to 80 hours of power reserve, the MKII is ready to dive into any challenge.

RADO

Rado is a Swiss manufacturer of high-end watches, with headquarters in Lengnau, Switzerland. It is noted for its use of scratch-proof materials, a field in which it is considered a pioneer. Today the company produces about half a million watches a year with a staff of about 300 in total.

Formed in 1917, Rado initially produced watch movements only. In 1957 the company launched its first collection of watches under the Rado brand. In 1962 the Rado Diastar Original, the world’s first scratch-proof watch, was launched. It has been in production ever since.

Rado is very peculiar in the watch industry, claiming high-end status despite not having as long a history as brands such as Omega. Rather the brand claims its elite position by virtue of its technological innovations since then.

In 1983 Rado became part of the SMH group which was renamed in 1998 as the Swatch Group. Rado differs from some of the more traditional luxury Swiss watchmakers in that it uses unconventional precious materials to achieve a more futuristic look. Rado has pioneered the use of a number of these materials, e.g., high-tech diamonds, ceramics, lanthanum and sapphire crystal. Many of Rado’s products include the use of steel & gold in harmony with high tech materials to allow for affordability to end consumers while enjoying the scratch resistant material.

Other than the material, Rado watches also look very different from most of the other luxury makers. The company is much more adventurous in constructing the shape of its watches than would normally be expected of a high-end maker. Market reaction to this is generally mixed, with some preferring the look of the more traditional makers, and others appreciating the more distinct Rado look.

Rado True Thinline Nature Collection

The Rado True Thinline Nature Collection is a beautiful fusion of nature and innovation taking the essence of Rado, and blending elements of the natural world into its design. The fruits of a creative partnership with Grandi Giardini Italiani – an organisation that promotes the rich heritage of grand Italian gardens – these additions to the True Thinline Collection celebrate the intersection between design and nature.

The Rado designers took the very best elements of the natural world and worked to incorporate this aesthetic into these new True Thinline models.  Although the palette is simple and comes from nature, recreating these colours consistently in high-tech ceramic is incredibly difficult.

To complement the lustrous cases and bracelets, each piece in the collection involves a unique dial treatment that echoes the natural world. Water gains a painted Mother of-Pearl dial that evokes the ebb and flow of the open sea, Earth boasts a metallised coating, which reflects and refracts light beautifully, and Leaf sports green Mother-of Pearl with a leaf structure applied to its underside which shimmers brilliantly in the light.

Rado HyperChrome Ultra Light

Presented at Baselworld 2018, the new HyperChrome Ultra Light watch from Rado features groundbreaking materials, innovative new elements and show stopping design.

Made with ultra-light high-tech ceramic, the HyperChrome Ultra Light watch weighs only 56gm however the watch makes a strong visual impact with its style. While ultra-light high-tech ceramic (Si3N4) is half the weight of standard Rado hightech ceramic, it is even harder and more scratch-resistant. Equipped with an automatic movement, the HyperChrome Ultra Light watch is presently available in two versions.

The super modern materials and high-tech case construction contrast strongly but impressively with the dial design. Taking their inspiration from 20th Century pocket watches, the understated simplicity and unparalleled legibility of the brown sunray high-tech ceramic dials give these timepieces a classic appearance.

The brown version is presented on a sporty, vintage look NATO strap while the bronze edition has a brown aged leather strap.

Rado DiaMaster New Models (2018)

With pared-down details, and large, open and readable dials, the DiaMaster has proudly represented Rado’s minimal side – until now.  Presented at Baselworld 2018, the new Rado DiaMaster models showcase Rado’s bold approach to design. The unique multi-level dial displays the elements of time – hours, minutes, seconds and date – in decentralised, intersecting circles. Each is connected to the other, but also exists independently. On the dial, the separate elements come together to form a harmonious whole.

The traditional Côtes de Genève detailing on the movement is visible through the transparent dial and the exposed gear trains from the movement also on display.

Making the most of the unusual arrangement of the movement with small second at seven o’clock and the hours and minutes dominating the upper half of the dial, the Rado designers have also brought in an additional design element in the form of a bar reminiscent of a horizon, bridging the transparent divide of the dial from left to right.

With two models, each housed in a 43 mm monobloc high-tech ceramic case, presented in scratch-resistant, light high-tech ceramic, the new DiaMaster has a case and dial combination to suit every taste. The all black model is a piece of polished perfection, and the plasma and white is punctuated by two diamonds on either side of the bar for an additional dash of luxury.
