The “Islamic Collection” features the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in Muscat, Al-Masjid An-Nabawī in Medina, Al-Masjid Al-Haram in Mecca, Al-Masjid Al-Aqṣā in Jerusalem, and Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi.

Louis Moinet Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque Tourbillon

Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, the main Mosque in Oman was funded and commissioned by Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said, and took over six years to build. It was inaugurated on May 4, 2001 – an emblematic achievement in art and design that is renowned worldwide.

The Mosque is home to the largest single-piece hand-woven carpet in existence. This feat of artistic and artisanal prowess measures 70 by 30 metres, and weighs in at 21 tonnes.

Made from 28 different colours of wool and cotton, the Persian carpet contains 1.7 billion knots; it took 600 weavers from Khorasan province in Iran 4 years to make it. Particular attention was also paid to the Mosque’s lighting; it is lit up by a total of 35 crystal chandeliers. The most spectacular of these, in the centre of the prayer hall, boasts a total of 1122 bulbs. It is the largest chandelier in the world, 8 metres in diameter and 14 metres high, and weighing 8 tonnes.

Louis Moinet Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque Tourbillon

The Louis Moinet Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque watch captures the beauty of the iconic Mosque with a hand-painted image on the mother-of-pearl dial. The tourbillon complication at 6h adds movement to the piece. A special luminous material has been inserted into the Dome and base of the Mosque to light it up at night. The white gold case has been set with 56 best quality baguette diamonds.

The price of this timepiece is CHF 825,500.00.

Alexander Shorokhoff Levels Limited Edition

Introduced in 2018, the watch “Levels” gets its name from the different levels of the dial. One level stands for your home time while the next level shows you the local time of the place wherever you are at the moment. On the third level the “Alexander Shorokhoff”-logo is placed and the fourth level shows the limitation number of the watch. All levels are of different height.

The most important and highest level is placed above the calendar window. There, at an elevated “bridge” a magnifying glass is positioned in a creative and innovative way in order to enlarge the visibility of the relative small date display of the refined ETA movement cal. 2671.

In this arrangement the magnifying glass resembles a monocle and underlines the creativity of Alexander Shorokhov, who is breaking with the practice to built-in the magnifying glass directly into the sapphire front glass.

The complete rose gold-plated “skyscraper” construction is built on a guilloched basement in petrol-blue or silver colour, creating contrasts and harmony at the same time. The colours have been selected perfectly. However, for an avant-garde artist it would be too simple and unimaginative to leave it like that. Alexander Shorokhov is looking to add something extraordinary in order to give the watch an inimitable characteristic.

By applying a coloured stripe of indefinite form the artist succeeded in keeping the perfect arrangement and, at the same time, to impart the watch the unmistakable “Alexander Shorokhoff-design”.

Among other unique watches by Alexander Shorokhoff this model belongs to the special philosophy of “Art on the wrist“ and is produced in limited edition of only 99 pieces per dial.

Alexander Shorokhoff Los Craneos – Dedicated to the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo

In 2018, Alexander Shorokhoff introduced Los Craneos, a limited edition watch as a tribute to Mexican artist Frida Kahlo.

At the beginning of the 20th century, artists like Diego Rivera, José Clemente Orozco, David Siqueiros and Frida Kahlo have revolutionized the Mexican art with their independent, avant-garde and for this time colourful nature of paintings. They all became world-famous artists.

In 2017, during his journey through Mexico, Mr. Shorokhov visited museums and sites, where these artists lived and worked. He was fascinated by the power of their paintings and the blaze of colour, by the exposure and creativity, as well as of their inimitable and national character. He was especially impressed by Frida Kahlo, who had a spectacular but dramatic life full of pain and passion. In 2018, Alexander Shorokhov dedicated a new watch “Los Craneos” to her.

Two items serve as main motif for this watch: The skulls and the tapering metal appliqués on the dial. Both elements represent the fight of Frida Kahlo against death. Furthermore skulls are deeply rooted in the Mexican culture as a symbol for gambling with life and death. This watch models name means Skulls in Spanish. The manifold pyramidal tapering metal elements at the dial symbolize the painful corset of Frida Kahlo. The production of such a dial requires a great deal of time and skill, concentration and patience, because all parts are separately made and then applied step by step.

“Los Craneos” is made as a double-time watch in order to illustrate the situation of Frida Kahlo hovering between life and death, a situation that was normal to her; nevertheless shewas always painting and creating her world famous artworks. Placed on one time zone is the calendar, on the other time zone a central second hand is placed. The artists also lived in two time zones – real life was running gradually, while time working seemed to fly by with the speed of light.

For the double time zones two ETA 2671 automatic movements of are used. Both movements are hand-engraved and can be seen through the sapphire glass back of the case. The case is of solid stainless steel with brushed sides and a hand-polished highgloss bezel.

For the design of this watch, Alexander Shorokhoff refrained from the application of colours – there are only black and silver parts in order to illustrate the dark theme of this watch. This watch model is limited to only 47 pieces. The same number of years Frida Kahlo has delighted people in the world with her artwork.

The Car Clock by John-Mikaël Flaux

Crafted by John-Mikaël Flaux, the Car Clock is a mechanical clock with a unique concept that combines 1930s racing cars with the art of watchmaking. The design of each element was created in order to combine aesthetics and automotive technology with that of a watchmaking philosophy.

This horological art piece takes inspiration from the racing cars of the 30s such as the famous Bugatti T35, Amilcar C6 or Alfa Romeo P3.

The propulsion of the wheels allows the Car Clock to roll at a speed of 13.2 mm / h or 32 cm per day. The time is readable by the numbers that are engraved on the rear rims, the index on the steering wheel makes it possible to specify the minute. The time can be set by the steering wheel and the winding is done from the front with a key, in the same way that old cars use to start their engine. A discreet transparent pedestal allows it to lift and immobilize the rear wheels.

Designed and manufactured by John-Mikaël Flaux, the Car Clock requires one month of craftsmanship to execute and assemble its 270 pieces following rules of the art of watchmaking (polishing, brushing, surface treatment, … etc). The main plates and wheels of the mechanism are in polished brass before being galvanized with palladium and the pinion are made in steel.

The bodywork is crafted from aluminum then carefully assembled, lacquered and polished by hand, each rivet is custom fit. Like its elders, the Car Clock will be limited to a small number. Each Car Clock is signed at the month of making.

• 270 components
• 11 Rubies

The Venture’s design is a modern take on the classic field watch with a BOLDR twist, in a super slim profile to suit wrists of all sizes. REC Watches RJM Collection

Introduced in December 2018, the RJM Collection offers mechanical timepieces that incorporate salvaged aluminum from PT879 – the only Mark IX Spitfire aircraft ever to return to the UK after being shipped to Russia as part of lend-lease during WW2.

REC Watches RJM Collection

RJM is the world’s first mechanical timepiece that combines authentic salvaged Spitfire aircraft material with both the design of the aircraft itself and the watches worn by the pilots of the WW2 era.

REC Watches RJM Collection

The iconic Supermarine Spitfire aircrafts have been widely celebrated for its crucial role during the Battle of Britain. Still, a handful of the approximately 20,300 Spitfire aircrafts ever built, were never intended to defend the British shores. PT879 was among the approximately 1118 Mark IX Spitfire aircrafts delivered in Murmansk in 1944 as part of the Allied Forces Lend-Lease aid policy to support the Russian war effort. The PT879 crashed on the Russian tundra in a dogfight in 1945.

REC Watches RJM Collection

A lot of Spitfire aircrafts went down over the Russian Tundra and none have come back. More than a half century later, in 1998, the battered aircraft was recovered in Murmansk as a complete but crashed aircraft – having spent 53 years in barn as she was recovered off the Tundra by an unnamed farmer in 1945. Currently, PT879 is undergoing a full restoration by Peter Teichman. An accomplished pilot, Peter has made it his life’s work to restore classic warbirds to their former glory and is uncompromising in restoring the PT879 to the same standards as when she left the factory at Castle Bromwich on the 4th of August 1944.

REC Watches RJM Collection

An impressive number of the PT879’s original parts are to be used in the restoration of the airframe, and more than 500 parts were used in the now renovated fuselage. Even so, there remained considerable aluminum parts of the salvaged PT879 wings which were not suitable for restoration. These parts, authentic pieces of world history featuring original marks and dents, are directly incorporated into the design of the RJM Collection, ensuring that every single RJM timepiece becomes visually unique.

REC Watches RJM Collection

In addition, in honor of this one-of-a-kind aircraft, the brand will be donating part of the proceeds of every sold RJM timepiece towards the restoration of the PT879 in order to make it airworthy.

Presently, the RJM Collection offers three models. These timepieces feature 40 mm diameter stainless steel case. The top glass of the watch is sapphire crystal with AR coating and the case back glass is mineral crystal.

REC RJM-01 watch
RJM-01

Among the three variants available, RJM-01 features a Black sandwich dial with white luminous details. The RJM-02 has a brown textured concentric circle dial with vintage luminous details. The third model RJM-03 comes with a military green dial with vintage luminous details.

REC RJM-02 watch
RJM-02

The RJM watch models incorporate some unique design features inspired by the PT879 MK IX Spitfire aircraft.

REC RJM-03 watch
RJM-03

The case shape of the RJM watch is inspired by the watches worn by the British Royal Airforce and the British Army during WWII – with a modern twist and proportions.

REC Watches RJM Collection case

The four “holes” on the crown tip marks the number of blades on the MK IX Spitfire aircraft Rotol propeller.

REC Watches RJM Collection crown

The crown guard is heavily inspired by the spitfire elliptical wing shape & wing structure. The crown tip is inspired by the nose cone of the Spitfire fighter mixed with a traditional diamond shaped crown.

REC Watches RJM Collection dial date window

The watch features a unique date window incorporating a recycled piece of untreated aluminum cut directly from the PT879 MK IX Spitfire aircraft. The application of powerful lume on hands and hour markers provides better night time visibility.

REC Watches RJM Collection lume shot

Each RJM watch houses a Miyota 9015 mechanical self-winding movement that provides a power reserve of more than 40 hours. Fitted with a spitfire metal rivet inspired oscillating weight, this mechanical engine can be admired through the transparent case-back of the watch.

REC Watches RJM Collection RJM caseback

The RJM-01 & RJM-02 watch models come with double-layered black calf leather strap featuring matte stainless steel buckle and quick-release system. The first model has a black color strap whereas the second model sports a tan color strap. Breitling Navitimer 1 B01 Chronograph 43 Pan Am Edition

Breitling has recently launched its first capsule collection – the Navitimer 1 Airline Editions – celebrating the brand’s important role in the golden era of aviation and some of the most emblematic airlines of that time. The collection took off with Swissair, the former national airline of Breitling’s home country. The second member of the collection honors a true American legend, Pan Am.

Breitling’s first capsule collection captures the spirit of a memorable time for commercial flight and revives the cool and evocative style of the 1960s and 1970s. The Navitimer 1 Airline Editions pay an affectionate tribute to the pioneers of civil aviation and celebrate some of the most emblematic airlines of the era. Switzerland’s iconic Swissair has now been joined by Pan Am.

In the 1950s and 1960s, commercial aviation experienced an unprecedented boom. The world suddenly became smaller as the dream of flying was no longer limited to a privileged elite. Flying had become accessible to a wider group of passengers, who, for the first time, could consider flying across a continent or even an ocean. Breitling played a key role in the emergence of commercial flight. Its onboard chronographs became standard equipment, first in propeller-driven planes and later in the jets produced by the world’s leading aircraft manufacturers.

When the Breitling Navitimer wrist chronograph was launched in 1952, it became an instant favorite with aviators and notably with the dashing pilots of the late 1950s, who flew their iconic passenger aircraft, such as the Boeing 707 and the Douglas DC-8, across countries or on intercontinental flights. The Navitimer featured a circular slide rule that allowed the pilots to make any critical calculations they might need to make in the air. In these glory days of commercial aviation, the Navitimer chronographs were the original wrist-worn onboard computers and ultimately established Breitling – already highly regarded for its onboard chronographs – as the unrivaled official supplier to the world of aviation.

The Navitimer 1 Airline Edition watches are powered by the Breitling Manufacture Caliber 01. The in-house mechanical chronograph movement has been acclaimed as one of the world’s finest and delivers both remarkable precision and a power reserve of approximately 70 hours. All models feature a bidirectional rotating bezel fitted with the famous circular slide rule, which serves to perform the entire range of calculations relating to airborne navigation. Their distinctive straight hands give the watches a dynamic, contemporary interpretation of a classic look. This first Breitling capsule collection will be available from April 2019 at Breitling boutiques and official retailers for a limited period of time.

The officially licensed Navitimer 1 B01 Chronograph 43 Pan Am Edition is distinguished by one of the most recognizable logos in the history of aviation printed on its transparent sapphire caseback. For decades, Pan American World Airways was a dominant force in commercial aviation and, long after the airline ceased operations, it is still closely linked with the excitement of air travel. The Pan Am Edition has a stainless-steel case with a blue dial, silver subdials, and a vintage-inspired brown leather strap, a Breitling Air Racer bracelet, or a stainless-steel mesh bracelet.

REC Watches 901 RS Limited Edition

Introduced in 2018, the 901 RS limited edition is the first ever stainless steel bracelet watch from REC Watches. This automatic wristwatch incorporates recycled parts from one of the most sought-after and iconic sports cars ever built – the 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7.

REC Watches 901 RS Limited Edition

The REC 901 collection offers timepieces incorporating recycled parts from salvaged Porsche 911’s. This REC 901 timepiece incorporates recycled parts of a legendary Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 made in 1973. The VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) of the donor car is 9113600237.

REC Watches 901 RS Limited Edition

The first owner of the Donor car was none other than the famous German Racing driver Clemens Schickentanz, who won both the GT European Championship and several World Championship rounds in the GT class. After sometime, the German rally driver Peter Rumpfkeil brought this car. During his 3-year ownership the car participated in several rallies, including the prestigious Monte Carlo Rally in the years 1976 and 1977 and Lombard RAC Rally in 1976.

Donor car for REC Watches 901 RS Limited Edition watch

In 1982 the battered 911 RS was acquired by Danish car enthusiast Jørgen Schultz, who initially was completely unaware of the rarity of the car. When he became aware that the car he had acquired was an original Carrera RS, he began restoring it over the next 3 decades until he finally sold the car in 2015, leaving several unusable parts most of which are now incorporated in the Limited Edition 901-RS watch. The details are all included in the scannable storycard, which accompanies every 901 RS Limited Edition timepiece.

The ’73 air-cooled Carrera RS 2.7 was the first 911-derived race car and the first production race 911 widely offered to the public. Only 1,580 were produced and prices on those still around have since skyrocketed, making it one the most sought-after and legendary sports cars ever built.

REC Watches 901 RS Limited Edition

The 901 RS is the very first timepiece from REC Watches introduced on a metal bracelet. This one-of-a- kind stainless steel bracelet follows the curvature lines of the 901 case shape – taking inspiration from the characteristic soft, curving corners of the classic Porsche 911.

REC Watches 901 RS Limited Edition

The dial of the 901 RS is cut directly from a 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS and coated with a grey, semitransparent lacquer, ensuring that no two dials are identical. The 901 RS black and yellow color scheme is a tribute to the original colors of the donor vehicle.

REC Watches 901 RS Limited Edition caseback

The case-back of the watch is inspired by the iconic 911 Otto Fuchs Rims – including the rotor decoration resembling drilled brake discs.

REC Watches 901 RS Limited Edition case back view

The 901 RS is engraved with the ‘VIN’ (Vehicle Identification Number) of its organ donor. The crown is designed to mirror the horn cap of the early 911 steering wheels.

REC Watches 901 RS Limited Edition

The REC 901RS watch houses a Miyota Cal. 9100 Automatic movement that drives three timekeeping hands, Calendar (day, date & month) and the power reserve display positioned at 12 o’ clock. The movement has a power reserve of approximately 40 hours. Its 44mm diameter stainless steel case is fitted with a sapphire crystal front glass and a solid case-back featuring K1 mineral crystal glass.

Garrick Regulator, New Versions with Engine-turned Dials

Garrick, the Nofolk-based watchmaker, once again, showcases British craftsmanship by offering its popular ‘Regulator’ with a remarkable handcrafted dial. The dial is adorned with an intricate motif formed using a rose engine lathe, imbuing the surface with a wondrous depth and three-dimensional allure. The work is undertaken in Great Britain by a time-served artisan, reinforcing Garrick’s belief that its home nation is a haven of peerless craftsmanship.

In 2017, Garrick released new versions of its existing Portsmouth, each endowed with an engine-turned dial, often referred to as a ‘guilloché’ dial. The dials, offered in a selection of colours, featured a fan-type pattern and evinced a traditional appearance.

Now, Garrick unveils a series of new engine-turned dials for its Regulator model. Whereas, the aforementioned Portsmouth dials appeared classical, the new Regulator dials bristle with modernity. The circular barleycorn motif emanates from the centre, steadily increasing in size, enriching the dial vista with a lustrous and dynamic appearance.

The separate indications of hours, minutes and seconds are presented in black and contrast beautifully with the silver hued dial. The movement is inverted with the balance wheel located at 10 o’clock. The open-worked balance bridge allows the wearer to see the balance in flight, oscillating to and fro. A partial view of the centre wheel provides a reminder that the gear train sits just below the dial surface, efficiently transferring energy from the spring barrel.

With its fastidiously polished British case, expertly finished hand wound Unitas movement and engine-turned dial, this Garrick timepiece showcases superb craftsmanship. Indeed, there is nothing regular about the Garrick Regulator and its engine-turned dial.

Technical details

Hands – Handmade steel hands, frosted, polished or heat blued.

Tudor Glamour Double Date

TUDOR is revisiting its established Glamour Double Date model, featuring a high-performance Manufacture Calibre visible through an open back, a redesigned middle case and new dials with refined details.

The Glamour line embodies TUDOR’s sense of elegance and its vision of the tradition of fine watchmaking. Throughout its history, TUDOR has offered a diverse collection within the dress watch segment. With this in mind, the new Glamour Double Date model displays subtle lines, a wealth of detail, and superior manufacturing quality.

Measuring 42 mm in diameter, available in steel or steel and yellow gold with a choice of bracelets in genuine alligator, steel or steel and gold, the Glamour Double Date model is distinguished by its versatile elegance and the performance of its Manufacture Calibre, the finishes of which are visible through a transparent background, a rare occurrence at TUDOR.

The design of the Glamour Double Date model is the result of TUDOR’s attention to detail, for which it is renowned. The double bezel has a slight drop creating a characteristic relief and gently extends the curves of the polished steel case. The edges present an encompassing line. The angles they draw refine them and work together with the bezel to give the Glamour Double Date model a noble and refined look. The design is striking while remaining true to its function and to what TUDOR watches have become known for: robustness, waterproofness and precision.

The Glamour Double Date model dial is available in silver, black, champagne-colour, or opaline white. It has two concentric rings. The central medallion is adorned with thin straight vertical gadrooning. Their texture subtly catches the light without dominating the watch face. The outer ring has a sunray finish and is punctuated by elongated diamond-shaped hour markers. Their geometry echoes that of the calendar. Located at 12 o’clock, it is made of a large double window, which is fully horizontal and adds to the elegance of this Glamour model. At 6 o’clock, a small second beats time on a snailed background.

A new Manufacture Calibre has been developed by TUDOR for this new Glamour model; MT5641. For the first time, a TUDOR Manufacture Calibre has a small seconds hand at 6 o’clock as well as a double date function at 12 o’clock. Date change at midnight is instantaneous; changes are made by directly adjusting the crown.

The Calibre MT5641 has the typical appearance and finish of TUDOR Manufacture Calibres. Its openwork rotor is satin-brushed with sand-blasted details and its bridges and plate have alternate polished sand-blasted surfaces and laser decorations. Its build is designed for robustness, longevity and reliability, as is its variable inertia balance held by a solid double anchor bridge.

Coupled with a non-magnetic silicon spiral, the MT5641 Calibre is certified by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC), with a precision going beyond the criteria of the institution of -2 +4 seconds per day. The watch boasts a 70-hour power reserve.

Parmigiani Fleurier Toric Chronometre Guilloche Dial

In 2017, Parmigiani Fleurier unveiled the Toric Chronomètre, a contemporary reworking of the first watch designed by Michel Parmigiani. In November 2018, the brand revisited the aesthetics of this flagship model, introducing an eye-catching dial decorated to evoke the spiral pattern of a pine cone.

The hand-guilloché dial of the new Toric Chronomètre boasts a concentric pattern that evokes the arrangement of the scales on a pine cone – one of the innumerable examples of the Golden Ratio seen in the natural world. At 12 o’clock and 6 o’clock respectively, the elliptical Parmigiani Fleurier logo and the word “Chronomètre” used by COSC (Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute) stand out from the dial’s decoration.

The javelin-shaped hands are semi-openworked, making them even more discreet to complement the subtle minute track around the circumference and the finely proportioned Arabic numerals.

The Toric’s aesthetic impact and unique character come from its bezel, which features a hand-knurled design. Since the Toric was created in 1997, each piece has passed through the expert hands of the same craftsman in Le Noirmont (Jura), who has produced every one of the Toric bezels. Knurling is a rare and distinctive art; it consists of manipulating the material with a wheel that leaves the imprint of its notches in the metal. This work requires the craftsman to be both delicate and firm. Before starting, he must remain composed, as even a single imperfection will mean starting again from the beginning. Each knurling design is unique, just like each Toric.

The red gold case houses the COSC-certified PF441 proprietary calibre, which measures the passage of time in its most elemental form: hours, minutes, seconds and date. All of the components have been meticulously decorated to Haute Horlogerie standards.

Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda Metropolitaine Selene Rose Gold

Parmigiani Fleurier has expanded its Tonda Métropolitaine Sélène range following the resounding success of this watch, launched in 2016, with two new models in rose gold. These models display the moon phases thanks to a movement produced entirely in-house and set in a modern, refined rose gold case.

The Tonda Métropolitaine Sélène in rose gold features two dial versions: the first, in abyss blue, is adorned with a central lotus flower – a symbol of femininity. This decoration is cut from mother of pearl and applied to the dial, from which it stands out 0.2 mm. The satin and polished finishes of the lace design create a play of light that beautifully showcases the quality of the workmanship. The second dial is made from highly reflective white mother of pearl, and features a lotus flower in solid rose gold, echoing the indices and the case. On each dial version, the bezel is adorned with 76 brilliant-cut diamonds totalling ~0.52 carat.

The russet moon of the Tonda Métropolitaine Sélène emulates the brilliance of the night sky. It is magnified thanks to its surface made up of craters — known as lunar seas — obtained by hand-applying successive layers of transfers. This watch offers a genuine embodiment of the moon on the wrist that disappears and emerges from wisps of cloud amidst its starry constellation.

The richness of the Tonda Métropolitaine Sélène resides in each of its individual details and its overall integrity. Decorative operations carried out by hand give it a tangible and unique value.

The PF318 movement and its moon phase module is the 33rd movement created within the Parmigiani Fleurier manufactures. The moon phase’s operating principle is based on a gear moved by the hour wheel, which rotates at half the speed of the gear. The gear drives the moon disc every 24 hours via a flexible blade integrated in the centre of its wheel. A corrector at 9 o’clock enables the wearer to independently index the moon in relation to the day and date in order to match its phase to the geographic reference location.

The PF318 self-winding movement has a power reserve of 50 hours and excellent isochronism thanks to its two series-mounted barrels that regulate the rate. Visible through the watch’s sapphire case back, this calibre is entirely circular-grained, decorated with Côtes de Genève and bevelled to the finest haute horlogerie standards customarily applied in the Parmigiani Fleurier manufacture.

Parmigiani Fleurier Toric Capitole Rose Gold Brown

The Edouard and Maurice Sandoz Foundation collection is a resource showcasing the genius of watchmaking’s “old masters”. Parmigiani Fleurier wanted to pay tribute to this unique collection of horological works of art by recreating some of these mechanical wonders in its own manufacture. The unique Toric Capitole Rose Gold Brown, with its sector display and minute repeater, is one of these exceptional timepieces. The watch takes its name from the Capitolium in Rome – the religious and political heart of Ancient Rome – the geometrically spiralling floor tiles of which are reproduced in the pattern of the dial.

The rose gold dial of the new Toric Capitole is hand engraved by a master artisan engraver who has left his lasting mark on the piece. The concentric pattern of the decoration evokes the arrangement of the scales on a pine cone – one of the innumerable examples of the Golden Ratio seen in the natural world. The captivating dance of the planetary gears continues above the engraved decoration. Parmigiani Fleurier wanted to showcase the sector time display complication, instead of concealing it behind a bezel that would only reveal one numeral at a time.

Inspired by the pocket watch made by Perrin Frères (Neuchâtel) dating from the early 19th Century, and now owned by the Foundation, the Toric Capitole reprises the unusual sector time display, translating it to a movement made by the Parmigiani Fleurier manufacture. The PF321 calibre features a module dedicated to the sector time display. This module, directly meshed with the hour wheel, incorporates a rotary system comprising three planetary gears with four arms, each end of which bears a numeral to indicate the hour (1 to 12). The time is displayed in a semi-circle on the upper half of the bezel, on a dial comprising 60 minute indexes. The set of discs is driven via a highly complex cam system.

The timepiece’s open case-back reveals the PF321 hand-wound mechanical movement and its minute repeater. Its gongs are known as “cathedral” gongs, a watchmaking term which means they form two sets around the case. This amplifies the acoustic quality compared with a single set, but makes the watchmaker’s work on the housing considerably more complex. The rose gold case has been forged to ensure the minute repeater chime acoustics are perfect, with the sound wave oscillating at the optimum frequencies inside the case.

GVCHIANI MASTERBLOCK

In association with the Geneva based Blockchain technology company Cryptolex, Swiss luxury watch brand GVCHIANI has created a watch called MASTERBLOCK, which pays homage to the technologies of Bitcoin and the Blockchain.

This 100% Swiss Made mechanical watch gives a new dimension to the 12th Art. Never, in the history of timekeeping, has a luxury watch been created from A to Z in the Blockchain, thereby characterising the singular DNA of each piece. Thus, a watch, even part of a series, becomes as unique as its owner. Unique since this luxury watch is protected by a Blockchain-based certificate issued by Cryptolex.

GVCHIANI MASTERBLOCK

In 2015, the founders of GVCHIANI and Cryptolex joined forces to create a watch that is unrivalled, as much in its form as in its technology, by integrating the symbolic essence of Bitcoin and the Blockchain. The result is the remarkable MASTERBLOCK.

In order to keep up with our new era that offers this technological revolution, the choice to create an unusual design with a strong visual identity was easily made. Its rectangular form and bold dimensions make MASTERBLOCK a chronograph that attracts attention at first glance.

Each MASTERBLOCK’s exclusive address on the Blockchain is inscribed on the dial. Whatever the position of the pointers, one of the four QR Codes remains permanently and completely readable. This also allows the wearer to use the MASTERBLOCK as a “paper wallet”.

Creativity and originality are the characteristics of GVCHIANI timepieces. Beyond its atypical appearance in the shape of a “Block” made of DLC titanium, the outline of the “X” reflects the monetary code of Bitcoin (XBT). The leather bracelet represents the decentralized network of the “Chain”.

GVCHIANI MASTERBLOCK

The Sellita automatic chronograph calibre SW500 features a power reserve of 48 hours, with hands displaying hours, minutes and seconds as well as a day and date indicator.

The black oscillating weight is specially personalised. The X engraved on the crown, emphasised by a ring of titanium, attracts both attention and curiosity.

GVCHIANI MASTERBLOCK watch movement Sellita automatic chronograph calibre SW500

The case, featuring the raised numbers of 3, 6, 9 and 12, is water resistant to 30 metres. Adding to its technical prowess is the curved sapphire crystal in the form of an X.

  • Each MASTERBLOCK will have its own Blockchain address.
  • Each step in its production will be engraved in the Blockchain, thus providing the entire history of each MASTERBLOCK.
  • Each MASTERBLOCK is linked to the preceding MASTERBLOCK, thus creating another link in the chain.

The MASTERBLOCK comes in a limited edition, numbered from 0000 to 2009, the year Bitcoin was launched. While 2008 watches will be sold on the website, http://www.masterblock.ch, two exceptional timepieces will be put up for sale at auction: the number 0000, named “Genesis”, and the number 2009, named “Satoshi” in honour of the creator of Bitcoin.

Cryptolex was founded by Alec Avedisyan, an EPFL engineer and crypto-prophet, and Vicken Bayramian, a legal expert specialising in trading raw materials and in the Blockchain. For them, the Blockchain technology is the greatest revolution since the creation of the Internet.

Cryptolex uses Blockchain in the most innovative and reliable ways to achieve the best results in many domains, among them watchmaking and trading. Cryptolex’s slogan “Post Tenebras Cryptos” illustrates the Geneva identity of the two founders.

Zenith Defy Classic Black Ceramic

Style and substance come together seamlessly in the new DEFY Classic Black Ceramic, marking the first time the ultra-hard and inherently black material makes its way to the DEFY Classic collection. With an intriguing display of micro-mechanics and the kind of superlative performance that has become synonymous with the Zenith manufacture, the DEFY Classic Black Ceramic resonates with the style-conscious urbanite.

The DEFY Classic has made its mark as Zenith’s expression of neo-futuristic watchmaking in its purest form. With the DEFY Classic Black Ceramic, its distinguishing features are brought to life from its subtly nuanced darkness and the sense of volume it conveys through balanced geometry and a unique, visionary architecture – inside and out.

Forged from wear-proof black zirconium oxide ceramic, the DEFY Classic’s faceted 41mm case features a combination of polished and satin-brushed surfaces, emphasizing its geometric and resolutely contemporary case inspired by the original Zenith DEFY collection first launched in the 1970s. The angular, silhouette of the case is softened by the perfectly circular bezel that haloes above it.

The centre piece of the DEFY Classic Black Ceramic’s is its avant-garde open dial. Taking on a stellar form with ultramodern angles, the multi-layered element seamlessly blends the neoteric display with the movement.

In broad daylight, the faceted hands and applied markers appear as one with the blackened complex of the open dial and visible portions of the movement, with their polished ruthenium-treated surfaces gleaming through the darkness for surprisingly easy legibility. Come nightfall, they emit a subtle green glow from the Super-LumiNova® SLN C1 coating.

Visible through the open dial as well as the sapphire case back of the DEFY Classic, the automatic Elite 670 manufacture movement beats unerringly. A staple movement in Zenith’s lineup for decades, the DEFY Classic represents the first time the Elite caliber has been open-worked. Its entire anatomy has been reimagined – not just aesthetically, with its restructured and open bridges with cutting-edge finishing – but also in its performance, as the Elite caliber in the DEFY Classic features a silicon pallet-lever and escape-wheel.

Perfectly integrated with the contours of the case and following the structured lines of the dial and movement, the DEFY Classic Black Ceramic is fitted with a black uni-structure rubber strap.

Zenith Defy Classic Range Rover Special Edition

For the past three years, ZENITH has been associated with Land Rover. In 2017 the creative partnership launched the Chronomaster El Primero Range Rover Velar, a model celebrating the iconic Range Rover name. A new vehicle deserved a new timepiece, and the next-generation Range Rover Evoque is paired with the latest ZENITH watch from the DEFY Classic collection: a chic and sporty timepiece honouring a landmark design.

The new Range Rover Evoque is designed to expertly blend city living with country escapism, building on the original’s enduring luxury appeal with a purposeful and precise evolution of its instantly recognisable silhouette. A reductive design approach focused on simplicity, the most compact Range Rover is a vision of modernity and timeless design placing Evoque back at the top of the segment.

The latest addition to the associated timepiece collection, the new DEFY Classic Range Rover, is distinguished by its characterful design. It offers an evolution of the modern and graphic interpretation of this line. Like the Range Rover Evoque, its beautifully proportioned 41mm case endows it with a resolutely unisex appeal.

Specially co-developed by design and technical engineering teams working in close harmony, this 200-piece limited edition of the DEFY Classic Range Rover is a combination of its own streamlined looks and certain unmistakable elements drawn from its automotive inspiration. These notably include colour themes evoking the UK manufactured vehicle, such as the seconds hand and oscillating weight attired in Arctic Petrol (turquoise blue) inspired by the accents on Evoques steering wheel and seats.

The open-worked dial of this sophisticated timepiece is inspired by the sculptural design of the wheel design of the Evoque, while the quilted-patterned upholstery of the premium SUV is picked up in the ‘diamond’ motif gracing the rubber strap of its horological alter ego. Powered by a new Elite skeletonised movement, ZENITH’s first reinterpretation of its Defy Classic collection radiates a unique allure based on an inspired and powerful design.

Zenith Pilot Cronometro Tipo CP-2 USA Special-Edition Watch in Partnership with Wounded Warrior Project

Zenith has launched its first limited-edition timepiece in partnership with Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP). The Manufacture is proud to be expressing its support by making a donation to this charitable organization that honors and empowers injured service members who bravely volunteered to serve their nation on or after the events of September 11, 2001. The new Pilot Cronometro Tipo CP-2 USA Edition watch will be sold nationwide in a limited run of 50 units.

The ranks of Manufacture Zenith historically include models that have made an indelible imprint on watchmaking, notably including its iconic pilot’s watches. The original 1960s TIPO CP-2 is often identified under that name. ‘CP’ stands for cronometro da polso (wrist chronograph). TIPO CP-2 chronographs belong to the exclusive circle of legendary chronographs that have earned the status of exceptional timepieces in both military and horological history and are now sought-after collector’s items. At Baselworld 2016, Zenith presented its tribute to one of the most coveted military pieces, the Heritage CronometroTipo CP-2, and is now paying a fresh tribute simultaneously serving a concrete philanthropic purpose.

The 43mm case of the Pilot Cronometro Tipo CP-2 USA Edition features a rotating bezel inspired by the US flag, a theme picked up on the oscillating weight with its Côtes de Genève motif. In addition, for the very first time, the watch features a matte blue dial coordinated with a matching aluminum ring inside the bezel. The triangle marker and hand have both been changed to red. Fitted with a special blue kudu-hide strap with white and red stitching, the USA Edition puts on a modern spin on patriotism and pays tribute to the nation and its soldiers.
