Backes & Strauss Piccadilly Princess Royal Colours Natural Coloured Diamonds

As the name suggests, the Backes & Strauss Piccadilly Princess ‘Royal Colours’ is a lady’s cocktail watch bedecked in a variety of spectacular stones which reflect all the colours of the rainbow – and more.

No two examples of the Piccadilly Princess Royal Colours will be alike, nor can they be – because each watch is created using a unique hand-picked selection of white and fancy-coloured diamonds which are individually set to create an unrepeatable, one-off pattern.

Starting with a simple, 18 carat white gold case, the watch is created by hand-setting ‘royal colours’ diamonds of no fewer than 66 different colour hues and 10 different cuts on the dial, case and bracelet. Combining the various cuts (Baguette, Cushion, Marquise, Oval, Pear, Princess, Ascher, Emerald, Heart and Round Brilliant Cut) creates an impression of a piece that has been formed by a happy coincidence of nature, almost as if diamonds had been casually scattered across the watch.

But closer inspection reveals that each of the 225 stones – one to mark every year since Backes & Strauss was founded – has been set in a process taking hundreds of hours of our master craftsmen.

Backes & Strauss – The Royal Jester

The Backes & Strauss ‘Royal Jester’ is a bespoke watch series.

The Jester (court jester, or fool) was an important appointment in many royal courts during the medieval and Renaissance eras. His role was considered vital to the smooth running of the royal court, his humorous antics were often seen as the fruit of divine inspiration and his position was one of privilege.

The watch is so named because of its circular theme, in the centre of which a sparkling routine is performed by its very own version of the jester in the form of a single, round, Brilliant diamond weighing above 1.01 carats in either the finest colourless or natural coloured diamonds.

But the magnificent ‘jester’ diamond is not the only amusing aspect of this small and very special line of watches, each of which will be a bespoke piece with a different central stone – choose from the afore mentioned diamond, or indulge in courtly colours with a central stone of intense blue, intense pink or fancy vivid yellow. Around the outside of the case, there are a further 80 diamonds weighing 10.50 carats, with the dial being masterfully invisibly set with two rows of baguettes weighing 2.4 carats. Each distinctive timepiece has a single diamond hand set in the crown, the Backes & Strauss signature “Jewel in the Crown”.

A further 40 baguettes (0.85 carat) can be seen between the discreet, crimson hour and minute markers, which are ingeniously mounted on crystal discs to create the impression that they are simply floating, unconnected to any mechanism, in the great tradition of the mystery timekeeper.
These timepieces are driven by a superb mechanical movement with 36 hours of power reserve.

Backes & Strauss – The Berkeley John Bull

Proudly wearing the British colours on its diamond studded dial, the Berkeley John Bull watch marks the passing of over two centuries since Backes & Strauss established its first London office in the heart of the Hatton Garden diamond district. Named after the iconic and exquisitely manicured square whose trees were planted in the founding year of Backes & Strauss, the new John Bull timepiece is inspired by the honoured and most celebrated symbol and personification of unshakeable Britishness: John Bull.

Its dial is set with 202 Ideal Cut diamonds, 198 rubies and 92 sapphires to create the instantly recognisable pattern of the Union Jack flag, behind which lies a self-winding, mechanical movement. The 18 carat white gold case, meanwhile, is set with 124 further diamonds around the bezel, with a single, Ideal Cut diamond nestling in the crown.

The watch is completed with the addition of an alligator leather strap fitted with a white gold diamond set buckle.

Memorigin Orbit Series Lady and Gent

Introduced in 2014 and available in both ladies and gent’s versions, the Memorigin Orbit Series watch collection will let you imagine the beauty of the dawn. The stunning “mother of pearl”, shining with unique colours, encircles and decorates the multi-level dial.

With the classic Roman indexes, you will dream the fantasy expressed by the reflection of the shining “mother of pearl” though the light. Especially, the tourbillon, rotating continuously as the heart of the entire watch, injects the life to everything alike. This watch comes in stainless steel case and black alligator strap.

Not only does the dial have the rich detailed design, but the back of the watch also surprises all the watch collectors. Memorigin specially engraved the semicircular rotor of the movement with skeletal pattern, enriching with the artistic elements on the design. Although it is an automatic tourbillon watch, Memorigin still reserves the traditional winding method to all – manual winding.

Memorigin – The Time Machine, Designed by Mark Lui

Designed by Hong Kong based artist Mark Lui, the Time Machine from Memorigin is a modern tourbillon watch, while embracing a classic appearance. Through collaborating with Memorigin, Mark has been inspired by the brand philosophy of the fusion of traditional craftsmanship and modern cogitation.

With the combination of the above ideas, the concept of “steampunk” came across in his mind, where it was related to the industrial revolution of steamed mechanics dated back to the 19th Century.

Mark Lui had designed his tourbillon with both modern and classic design, combining with a rough feeling to produce a very special tourbillon that’s different from the ones in the market. There are 4 circular windows on the watch surface as one of the major breakthrough. Each of them is of different height giving us different visual delights at different perspectives.

The 4 circular windows symbolize factory smokestacks, where it also looks as if it is a telescope that attracts us to look into mechanical mystery. Looking in the user’s perspective, the crown is also coming with a cushion to avoid any injuries during winding the watch.

There are two shades for “The Time Machine”, giving us very different perceptions. The rose gold surface coupled with a dark brown alligator strap gives a retro feeling while the silver surface is coupled with a navy blue alligator strap giving simplicity and a modern style.

Memorigin KuTour Typhoon and Tweed Tourbillons by Ms. Priscilla Ku

Hong Kong actress – Ms. Priscilla Ku, who is also a GIA jewelry appraiser and designer, has been enthusiastic on the jewelry design for many years. She aims to merge her fashion sense with the traditional jewelry design. The fashionable appearance and magnificent function are penetrated successfully in her designs. Furthermore, she has designed an extraordinary phase on her artworks that accessory can be divided and assembled to feature with different apparels which enhances the utility and freshness of the jewelry.

In 2014, Ms. Priscilla Ku worked with a Hong Kong tourbillon brand – Memorigin for creating her own brand – KuTour. Two separate tourbillon series, Typhoon and Tweed, were launched under the timeless effort of Memorigin and Ms. Priscilla Ku.

Typhoon is a tourbillon watch based on the satellite image of a typhoon passing through China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. On the dial, the curve lines represent the isobars of the satellite image. With diamonds in different colours encircled, they form the continental and ocean alike. In the middle, it is the location of Hong Kong. The typhoon is transformed into rotating tourbillon. Besides, the harmony among China, Hong Kong and Taiwan is the extraordinary blessing from the watch design. By using different diamonds with different colours, the details and shining gems enriched everyone’s eyesight.

For Tweed, the design inspiration comes from the checked woollen cloth pattern with a simple colour tone. In order to form the interweave effect of the woollen cloth perfectly, different kind of gems were assembled like the black gems, sapphire, diamonds and grey diamonds. Thus, the jewelry workers spent unlimited working hours on the cutting process to imitate the sophisticated pattern of the woollen cloth.

Apart from the special design on the appearance, a deep inspiration about life is implied. She aims to express the true meaning of harmony. Just like the pattern of the fabric, the circular outlook with rectangular inner design implies the concept of Chinese proverbs “following the rule and act wisely”.

Parmigiani Fleurier Bugatti Type 370 – Bugatti 10eme Anniversaire Rose Gold Ruthenium Mythe, Reference PFH340-1012700-HC3042

Introduced in 2014, this timepiece celebrates the 10th anniversary of Bugatti Type 370, the first timepiece born from the partnership between Parmigiani Fleurier and Bugatti.

The partnership between the two prestigious companies was formalised in 2004. Since then, the Fleurier based manufacture has striven to create timepieces for the Bugatti collection which are far more than a watch stamped with a car marque logo; they are cars reborn in watch form. The Bugatti 370, the first timepiece which celebrated the creation of the partnership in 2004.

Launched in 2004, the Bugatti 370 features a movement built according to a horizontal axis. It’s a world first. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the partnership, in 2014, Parmigiani Fleurier announced the unveiling of three limited editions of the Bugatti timepiece.

Bugatti Mythe

The brand has decided to take the iconic Bugatti 370 model, and its transverse tubular movement, as its basis. This piece, which marked the creation of the partnership in 2004, demonstrates the brand’s cutting-edge creative spirit and the quest for technical excellence which made it possible.

The Bugatti Mythe, the Bugatti Victoire and the Bugatti Révélation are the new versions of this Anniversary Limited Edition. These three pieces share an aesthetic which harks back to the artisan’s traditional techniques. In this respect, the collection moves away from the hi-tech, futuristic spirit which prevailed in some of the Bugatti creations of this first decade: the titanium of the Bugatti Vitesse case middle, for example, or the black carbon of the Bugatti Super Sport dial.

The first of the Anniversary Edition timepieces, the aesthetic of the Bugatti Mythe is based on an emblematic Bugatti component: the legendary Type 57 grille. This grille, which graced the very first Bugatti cars, has a striking structure, formed of lines rather than mesh. These lines are echoed in the watch dial and they extend downward beyond its perimeter, affirming the Art Deco style which made the historic grille such a success.

In addition to this homage to Bugatti’s history, the Bugatti Mythe timepiece also pays tribute to the ongoing collaboration between industrial and artisan traditions in both the automotive and watchmaking worlds. Inextricably linked at Bugatti, industry and craftsmanship see their potential combined in every creation, and this is what the brand’s reputation is based on.

The Bugatti Mythe evokes this marriage through the dual-colour effect of the surfaces of its case middle. A mottled anthracite grey surface, which reinforces its «industrial» appearance, represents this side of the spectrum; the burnished, gold surfaces reflect the refined, artisan side. The Bugatti Mythe is possessed of a powerful symbolism, which encapsulates the history of two brands and the success of a collaboration.

RESSENCE TYPE 1

RESSENCE represents a new way of thinking about fine mechanical watches – no less expertly hand-crafted, but with an industrial design philosophy that seeks to be progressive and a clear, graphic aesthetic that is decidedly 21st century. What really lights up the TYPE 1 is the original thinking behind it. Or rather, the re-thinking that comes with a different perspective.

The watch has no crown, for example, the winding/setting mechanism being the case-back itself, for better ergonomics and allowing a left-right fit. It is all tactile curves, the domed sapphire glass extending to the very edge of the case – making the watch more sapphire than metal, in fact – the lugs seemingly part of the case too, an organic whole. And that’s no illusion – lugs and case are milled in one action from the same grade 5 titanium block.

But, most strikingly, and characteristic of RESSENCE, is the lack of conventional hands. Here the time is displayed via its patented, 107-part Ressence Orbital Convex System (ROCS1) – a complex mechanism driving convex sub-discs that continually revolve, as does the main disc into which they are set, like moons in orbit around a planet.

This allows the curved dial to be set closer to the sapphire glass, which gives a sense of immediacy to the look and aids legibility. It also means that the watch’s uncluttered face is ever-changing – as everything is in time.

For all its seeming simplicity, it can transfix. It’s all about the experience – not an obsession with little cogs and wheels. Indeed, rather than being proudly displayed, the sophisticated mechanics of the operation are hidden away beneath a smooth surface.

Parmigiani Fleurier Tecnica Ombre Blanche

Introduced in 2014, the Parmigiani Fleurier Tecnica Ombre Blanche is one of the most complex timepieces in haute horlogerie as its mechanism houses a Minute Repeater, Tourbillon and Perpetual Calendar – three complications integrated into a single complete movement.

Tecnica Ombre Blanche features a stunning Grand Feu enamelled dial, created using the champlevé technique. The process in this case consists of engraving a gold base by creating a hollow which corresponds to the dial area. The enamel is then applied to this bas-relief with a paintbrush and the whole piece is exposed to very high temperatures so that the vitreous enamel melts and fuses. Several layers of enamel are successively applied, then fired, until the hollow is filled. The result is a dazzling white dial whose myriad enamel layers create an interplay of light which brings it to life; a perfectly flat, satin-finished dial, which nevertheless gives an exquisite impression of depth.

This interplay of light extends to the design of the case on the Tecnica Ombre Blanche and, more specifically, to its lugs. The side of its iconic lugs, traditionally straight and elongated, has been bevelled on this model, making it ever so slightly rounded. Although this is a tiny and almost imperceptible change, it makes a subtle difference to the appearance of the lug; it is no longer delineated by the concrete line of the material, but rather is discreetly highlighted.

On looking at it, the lug appears unchanged; however it is its softness and sophistication which catches the eye. The rose gold case is very slender for a timepiece which includes a minute repeater. The Tecnica Ombre Blanche is characterised by the quest for refinement which drives many creations by Parmigiani Fleurier. This is why the minute repeater is activated by pivoting a knurled bezel  which is delicately integrated into the profile, as a traditional side bolt would have disrupted the harmony of the timepiece.

The precious finishing touch made to the timepiece is a unique decoration on the bridges of the movement. It uses a very intricate guilloché technique, formed of thousands of ribbed lines which are parallel, but without creating a rigid geometric pattern. This decorative work is significantly more complex than a classic “Côte de Genève”; it generates a wave effect which animates the bridges and brings the fresco to life, reflecting light in all directions.

The minute repeater is wound elegantly by rotating a knurled ring under the bezel a quarter turn clockwise. This sophisticated activation mechanism represents a challenge in terms of water resistance, as the surface area to be protected from water is much larger than a traditional side bolt.

The rose gold case has been designed to ensure that the minute repeater chime has the best possible resonance in an optimal space. The chimes on the Tecnica Ombre Blanche are called “cathedral” chimes as they form two sets of gongs around the case; this greatly amplifies the acoustic quality compared with a single set, but the watchmaker’s work on the housing is considerably more difficult. The minute repeater chimes the hours, quarter hours and minutes with an exceptional chime, immediately signalling the Tecnica Ombre Blanche’s eligibility for a place in the watchmaking Hall of Fame.

Girard-Perregaux Tri-Axial Tourbillon White Gold Limited Edition

Girard-Perregaux, an uncontested point of reference in the production of tourbillon watches, introduces a white gold version of its Tri-Axial Tourbillon. A spectacular watchmaking mechanism designed to maximise timekeeping precision by eliminating the effect of gravity on the regulating organ of the watch.

Although the tourbillon was introduced more than two hundred years ago, watchmakers are still trying to improve its efficiency. Girard-Perregaux, a great historical specialist in this queen of complications intended to combat the negative effect of gravity, now increases its complexity and pushes the limits of innovation. The Haute Horlogerie Manufacture has developed a tourbillon with a regulating organ that rotates on three axes instead of the traditional single axis.

The balance performs a ballet that is much more captivating because of the high rotation speed of the different carriages. The interior carriage, shaped like a lyre in the Girard-Perregaux tradition, rotates once every minute. It is fitted into a structure that rotates on another axis every 30 seconds. Lastly, a third structure enables the whole assembly to rotate on yet another axis every 2 minutes. This complex mechanism is flawlessly finished, and its 140 components total only 1.24 g.

The complex architecture of this 13.78 mm diameter mechanism, and its multi-dimensional rotations led to a convex lens being incorporated into its sapphire crystal. This creates enough space for the tourbillon to revolve.

A window in the side of the case at 9 o’clock lets light into the heart of the movement, allowing the fascinating mechanism to be viewed from there as well as from the back of the watch. A new feature in the white gold version is a dial with open areas that display even more of the precision mechanism and highlight the modernity of the watch.

These different views of the movement reveal traditional and modern finishes of exceptional quality; mirror-polished surfaces and perfect bevelling indicate its pedigree, as do each of the components that are decorated and finished by hand with the greatest care.  On the bridge side, the black-coloured plate, stamped with the Manufacture’s symbol, underlines the modernity of the execution in a play of contrasts with the iconic Girard-Perregaux arrow-shaped bridges in pink gold. The brand logo area, also in pink gold carries the individual number of the watch while “Tri-Axial” is engraved on the satin-finish circular bridge supporting the differential of the tourbillon system.

It takes almost 160 hours for the watchmakers to assemble the 317 components of the movement, which is now fitted into a 48 mm diameter case in white gold. Typical features of Girard-Perregaux Haute Horlogerie collections are its bevelled bezel, elegantly curved middle and streamlined horns.  The watch is perfectly complemented by a black, full-grain, hand-stitched alligator strap with a folding clasp in white gold.

The Tri-Axial Tourbillon in white gold is available in a limited edition of 10 pieces.

Andreas Strehler Sauterelle à Lune perpétuelle 2M – The Most Precise Lunar Phase Wrist Watch

Unveiled at Salon QP Exhibition 2014 in London, the Sauterelle à Lune perpétuelle 2M by Andreas Strehler is the most precise moonphase wristwatch ever built. This extra-ordinary mechanical timepiece is available in 18 carat red gold and platinum versions.

At Basel World 2014, the award winning master watchmaker Andreas Strehler presented his Sauterelle à Lune perpétuelle with a practically perpetual indication of the phase of the moon. Now, he has built an even better moon phase: the Sauterelle à Lune perpétuelle 2M.

Andreas Strehler Sauterelle à Lune perpétuelle 2M - The Most Precise Lunar Phase Wrist Watch

The phases of the moon have always fascinated mankind. Luna in Latin and still feminine in many languages, the moon governs the tides, sowing and harvesting.

Andreas Strehler Sauterelle à Lune perpétuelle 2M watch in Platinum

Unfortunately, the lunar phase cycle is it is not in sync with our calendar: On average, it is 29.530588 days. Hence, for a precise phase of the moon, watchmakers would need cog wheels with fractions of teeth – which doesn’t look good and doesn’t work either.

Andreas Strehler Sauterelle à Lune perpétuelle 2M - The Most Precise Lunar Phase Wrist Watch

If the Sauterelle à Lune perpétuelle had to be corrected every 14’189.5383 yeas by one day, Andreas Strehler managed to improve this value significantly: The Sauterelle à Lune perpétuelle 2M needs such a correction only every two million years – hence the designation 2M. To be quite precise, the correction is needed every 2’060’757 years.

Andreas Strehler Sauterelle à Lune perpétuelle 2M watch in Platinum

Based on calculations made by Professor Robert Baggenstos, Andreas Strehler designed a completely new gear train for the 2M. Professor Baggenstos has calculated the ratio and Andreas Strehler has turned these calculations into a gear train. For this, the available space inside the movement had to be reallocated and the position of the balance had to be adapted.

Andreas Strehler Sauterelle à Lune perpétuelle 2M watch red gold

All this was done while the size and design of the present Lune Perpétuelle remained unchanged.  In spite of the improved precision of the moon phase indication, Andreas Strehler managed to keep the number of components the same.

Like the Sauterelle à Lune perpétuelle watch presented in Basel earlier this year, the Sauterelle à Lune perpétuelle 2M only needs four components to achieve this feat.

Andreas Strehler Sauterelle à Lune perpétuelle 2M - The Most Precise Lunar Phase Wrist Watch

The Sauterelle à Lune perpétuelle 2M by Andreas Strehler is therefore the most precise phase of the moon ever built. And by some margin: About 2.045 million years. This timepiece has also won the Guinness world records as the most precise lunar phase wristwatch.

Andreas Strehler Sauterelle à Lune perpétuelle 2M - The Most Precise Lunar Phase Wrist Watch

Technically, the Sauterelle à Lune perpétuelle 2M is based on the Sauterelle watch by Andreas Strehler. Like the Sauterelle, the 2M has Andreas Strehler’s unique Remontoir d’égalité. This provides a constant supply of energy to the escapement.

Andreas Strehler Sauterelle à Lune perpétuelle 2M - The Most Precise Lunar Phase Wrist Watch movement

The Lune Perpetuelle 2M is a further example of Andreas Strehler’s technically mature constructions. Using only four components, Andreas Strehler achieves the precision of his moon phase indication by driving it continuously instead of switching it forward once a day.

Andreas Strehler Sauterelle à Lune perpétuelle 2M watch in Platinum

By a clever combination of internal and external toothing as well as by the use of prime numbers for the numbers of teeth in the cogwheels, Andreas Strehler could represent complex fractions by cogwheels having integral numbers (halve a tooth on a cogwheel does not work in horology – or in general, for that matter).

Andreas Strehler Sauterelle à Lune perpétuelle 2M watch in Platinum

All this leads to the unprecedented precision of the moon phase indication of the Sauterelle à Lune perpétuelle 2M.

Memorigin Orbit Series Skeleton Tourbillon

Presented in 2014, the Memorigin Orbit Series skeleton watch boasts an eye-catching tourbillon continuously beats at 6’o clock on its open-worked dial. The elegant design of this stunning dial pattern is matched by a stainless steel case and black alligator strap.

Not only does the dial have the rich detailed design, but the back of the watch also surprises all the watch collectors. Normally, there is no more detail on the semicircular rotor. However, Memorigin specially engraved it with skeletal pattern, enriching with the artistic elements on the design.

Although it is an automatic tourbillon watch, Memorigin still reserves the traditional winding method to all – manual winding. Moreover, if you may forget to wind it manually, the watch can still run when you wear it. Total 40 hours will be reserved after full winding.

Memorigin Jade Tourbillon Watch – In Association with Emperor Jade Limited

In 2014, Memorigin, in association with Emperor Jade Limited, the top brand specializing in the jade, created a jade-feature tourbillon watch.

Once, design director and famous jade collector, Mrs. Christy Tung, JP, and the experienced wood engraving antique collector and founder of Memorigin, Mr. Shum Mak Ling, met each other that aligned to the same value – enhancing the fusion of the Chinese and western culture. Through the essence of the western culture – tourbillon watch, the beauty of the oriental jade culture is perfectly expressed.

It is not an easy task to present the jade on the tourbillon timepiece. The source and the cutting of the jade are the critical points. Regarding the thickness control, “too thick” or “too thin” will affect the dimensions. With a perfect balance, the silky fibrous texture of jade can only be shown. On the other hand, a little error on these processes will ruin everything.

Besides the difficulty of sourcing of Jade, many factors are needed to take into consideration after polishing like the moist texture, i.e. the sense of the transparency and the smoothness of the jade’s colour. As talked before, the thickness of the jade will easily affect everything. The whole project team strictly controls the entire stream of procedures beginning from sourcing, cutting, to polishing.

Every piece of the jade will be cut into a perfect ratio. By embedding a block of jade at the center, the stream of natural green light is refracted. On the dial, a square jade is used for the indexes which are separated by several square diamonds. The whole picture is presented in simply beauty.

The Memorigin Jade tourbillon watch has two styles, one for gentlemen and one for ladies which are empowered by 40 hours and 60 hours respectively. Both two styles acquired a frequency of 28,800 oscillations per hour. Moreover, they can be paired up as a Lover Series. The Memorigin’s trademark was engraved on the balance wheel of the tourbillon. Gold, diamond, jade and tourbillon: these four high-valued elements merge together to form this masterpiece.

Memorigin Transformers Series Tourbillon Watch

In 2014, the Hong Kong tourbillon watch brand – Memorigin presented the Transformers Series – the first Transformers-themed tourbillon watch with Hasbro. One set with 2 different models in limited edition was launched.

Referring to the characters in the movie, Optimus Prime and Bumblebee respectively, Memorigin invited 3 talented designers to work on this project. Through unlimited improving and fine tuning, all the technical constraints are solved to realize this masterpiece. In order to match with the unique features in the movies, all elements including colour tuning, texture of the strap and the esthetics on the design are strictly controlled. Especially, the characterized colour setting of Optimus Prime and Bumblebee is fully expressed through the strap.

Designer sketched the outline of the Optimus prime on the dial. The sliver plated skeletal structure enriched the layers on the dial. Besides, there are total of 10 pieces of natural sapphire on the dial. The 2 sapphires act as the eyes of Optimus and rest 8 form the indexes on the dial. Under the sunshine, the texture of steel is excellently expressed.

At the 6 o’clock position, the tourbillon is located which create a great momentum for the watch. It seems like the heart of Optimus Prime. Especially, it is gorgeous that the characteristics of Optimus Prime can be found on the watch. The red threads on the navy blue strap accompany the stainless steel case creating a great contrast with the stylish case.

In the movie, Bumblebee is the character that is very energetic as if the ray of sunshine. To follow the setting in the movie, designer creates the entire design as a refreshing feeling with great contrast. By using the yellow and black colour, the sharp yellow strap captured everyone’s eyesight.

On the dial, there are 8 yellow diamonds as the indexes and 2 natural sapphires as the eyes of Bumblebee. The rotation of the tourbillon at the 6 o’clock position provides the energy to the Transformers that let it move.

F.P. JOURNE “ÉLÉGANTE” – The First Ladies Watch Collection by F. P. Journe Manufacture

Always ahead of his time, conciliating tradition, innovation and modern technology, F.P. Journehas developed a revolutionary horological concept for his first ladies collection. It was designed and conceived exclusively for women, with extremely precise technical specifications to offer this watch autonomy of 8 to 10 years when worn and up to 18 years in standby mode.

It took 8 years of research for F.P. Journe to develop this innovative movement that combines the comfort of use and the performances of an electro-mechanical watch with feminity, elegance, and precision. The “élégante” measures time impeccably, allowing it to be stopped and started again. This is the dream of all women and of all watchmakers as well.

All the mechanical elements of the “élégante” movement are manufactured by F.P. Journe, based on the brand’s own criteria of excellence in state-of-the-art haute horology. The electronic components were developed by a Swiss engineer and were made in Switzerland according to exclusive and exacting standards, with a microprocessor specifically created for the watch. The concept of this electro-mechanical watch features a mechanical motion detector visible on the dial at 5 o’clock.

When the watch is motionless, it stops after about 30 minutes. In standby mode, the microprocessor continues to keep time, while the mechanical parts – gears, rotors and hands – stop moving in order to save energy. When the “élégante” is again worn, it automatically sets itself to the current time, taking the shortest path – either clockwise or counter clockwise.

The novel luminescent dial of the “élégante” in its Titanium version recalls the shimmering surface of white mother-of-pearl. It offers maximum legibility in the dark, and at night the hands count off the hours, as in a shadow theatre. As a finishing touch to his first ladies collection, F.P. Journehas chosen a flat Tortue case, whose design is trademarked ®.

The case of the “élégante” is available in Titanium, with 6 coloured rubber partitions and a matching rubber strap: white, rose, light blue, midnight blue, chocolate, and khaki green. Its ergonomic shape perfectly embraces the wrist. The 18 ct. red gold version comes with a chocolate strap; the Platinum PT 950 version with a dark blue strap. A jewellery version of the “élégante” is available, with a diamond-set bezel and a dial that can be set with precious stones upon request.

If electronics had existed in the 18th century, they would have been used by master horologists for marine chronometry, to achieve maximum precision during ocean navigation, while offering a sophisticated construction and luxurious design. F.P. Journe produces haute horology movements; each watch is fitted with a sapphire back that reveals its magnificent movement. Faithful to the specifications of its haute horology production, F.P. Journe reserves a special treatment for the “élégante”s movement, with an outstanding decor that may be admired through the sapphire case back.

The exceptional horological savoir-faire that characterises all F.P. Journe watches, and his exclusive mode of assembly, are both present in the “élégante”. The basic conception of the electronic components is very important, which is why F.P. Journe made it a point to develop an efficient movement that consumes less energy – with its inherent ecological benefits. The integrated circuit of the “élégante” – in a sense the watch’s brain – incorporates high-performance electronic components. 10 years of use if worn, and up to 18 years in standby mode. In an ultimate feminine touch, a heart adorns the back of the movement, showing the location of the microprocessor that symbolises the heart of the watch.

The flat Tortue case and rubber bracelet fit all wrists with sensuality and perfect ergonomic design. For the dial, true to his philosophy, F.P. Journe emphasizes legibility. Based on the principle of cloisonné enamel, the case of the “élégante” is decorated with rubber partitions.

After the successful launch of 2 timepieces – the Helmsman and Chroma – Singapore based micro watch brand Zelos announces its third project: Abyss, a professional grade dive watch made with marine grade bronze. Built to withstand extreme pressures up to 3000 meters, Abyss takes its design inspiration from its first model, Helmsman.

Bronze has been closely associated with ocean world since ancient times because of its corrosion resistance. Like the first model, the Zelos Abyss will be come with a fine bronze case, yet designed to with stand extreme pressure.

An oxide layer, called a patina, forms a protective skin over time to protect the metal. This patina individualizes each Abyss, creating completely unique pieces. The chamfered edges of the case will be finely polished to perfection and the rest of the case is brushed to provide a contrast.

Zelos Abyss diving watch 3000 meters

The sapphire crystal mounted to protect the face of the Abyss measures 7mm thick. It is double domed in shape to reduce distortion when viewed at an angle. Inner anti reflective coatings also prevent any unwanted reflections and improves legibility. It is equipped with 120 click, unidirectional bezel and Helium Escape Valve to provide functionality for saturation divers. As with the Helmsman, an internal bezel is also added to provide additional timing functionality if required, without any risk of the bezel turning unintentionally.

Zelos Abyss diving watch bronze case

Maintaining a water resistance of up to 3000m requires a complex balance of thick metal casings and fine gaskets sealing every possible point of leakage. Each of the crowns has 5 gaskets to ensure a waterproof seal, while a double O-ring system seals the hefty 4mm thick stainless steel screw-down caseback.

The Zelos Abyss will be powered with the automatic Miyota 9015 movement, a work horse designed to perform precisely and reliably. A total of 500 pieces of the Abyss will be produced and each piece will be individually numbered.

Zelos Abyss diving watch with 3000 meters water resistance

The Zelos Abyss will be available in Blue, Green, Brown, Black and DLC bezel with Black dial versions. The CUSN8 Bronze case measures 43mm in diameter and 18mm thickness. 51.5mm lug to lug length makes it extremely wearable.

The Zelos Abyss crowd funding project is currently online on Kickstarter. Pre-order prices start from US$ 490/390 Euros. Delivery is scheduled for May 2015.

Memorigin ‘The Time Machine’ Tourbillon Watch, Designed by Mark Lui

The designer – Mark Lui has coordinated with Memorigin for launching a timepiece. He aimed to design a modern tourbillon watch, while embracing a classic appearance.

Through collaborating with Memorigin, Mark has been inspired by the brand philosophy of the fusion of traditional craftsmanship and modern cogitation. Especially, it is a big challenge to let the complicated mechanical movement to achieve the accuracy.

Memorigin ‘The Time Machine’ Tourbillon Watch, Designed by Mark Lui

With the combination of the above ideas, the concept of “steampunk” came across in his mind, where it was related to the industrial revolution of steamed mechanics dated back to the 19th Century. Through the design, Mark is hoping not only to present the timekeeping function, but it also be served as an art piece for users to appreciate its design.

Mark Lui has designed this tourbillon watch with both modern and classic design, combining with a rough feeling to produce a very special tourbillon that’s different from the ones in the market. There are 4 circular windows on the watch surface as one of the major breakthrough. Each of them is of different height giving us different visual delights at different perspectives.

The 4 circular windows symbolize factory smokestacks. Looking in the user’s perspective, the crown is also coming with a cushion to avoid any injuries during winding the watch. There are two shades for “The Time Machine”, giving us very different perceptions. The rosegold surface coupled with a dark brown alligator strap gives a retro feeling while the silver surface is coupled with a navy blue alligator strap giving simplicity and a modern style.

With Mark’s attention to every single detail, the packaging of “The Time Machine” is also very well designed with a gear shaped button that aligned with the timepiece’s design. Besides, accompanied with the delicately stitched cushion, “The Time Machine” is definitely an art piece with quality materials.

Victorinox Swiss Army – I.N.O.X.

Since its press launch at the Baselworld Watch Fair in March 2014, the I.N.O.X. watch has experienced a veritable success story. This runaway success is the perfect birthday gift for Victorinox, which is celebrating its 130th anniversary this year, and its watchmaking division, Victorinox Swiss Army, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary.

The cornerstone of this success is I.N.O.X.’s unparalleled strength. Designed to withstand unusual levels of stress, it has undergone and passed with flying colours a battery of 130 ruthless tests that far exceed the normal certification standards of the Swiss watch industry. Unusual resistance tests were developed specifically for the I.N.O.X., and no fewer than 421 prototypes were sacrificed to ensure that it could achieve and surpass the desired objectives for strength and solidity.

After four years of development and testing, the final result: a Swiss Made stainless steel watch that is second to none. Unveiled at Baselworld 2014, the I.N.O.X. was commercially launched on 01 September 2014 at Victorinox Swiss Army points of sale worldwide.

INOX is a pledge of quality. In addition to standard testing, Victorinox Swiss Army has put it through an intensive battery of 130 tests to demonstrate its exceptional resistance, among them 30 exclusively designed tests to certify INOX as a timepiece “made to last”. INOX can, for example, withstand a 10-meter drop onto a concrete surface, have a 64-ton tank drive over it, and resists two hours in a washing machine as well as a sandstorm.

It can resist variations in temperature from -51° C to +71 ° C and 12G forces of acceleration and deceleration. INOX has also been subjected to attack by corrosive products such as gasoline, solvents, oils, cleaning products and insecticides.

INOX pays tribute to Victorinox history. Its name honours an early 20th century invention that did much for the development and success of the Swiss Army Knife: stainless steel. ‘Inox’ (French for ‘stainless steel’) is synonymous with material strength, durability and resistance to corrosion. For Victorinox in particular, it marks the link between knife making and watchmaking, between the historical activity of the company, which was founded in 1884, and the manufacture of its first watch in 1989. Two key dates, two different crafts, but linked by a single philosophy: respect for Swiss know-how and its peerless standards of quality.

The watch’s case has been stamped and machined in the metal, creating a protective envelope of unsurpassed strength. Designed to withstand unusual vibration, shock and temperature changes, it has been reinforced well beyond the standards of a conventional timepiece, and is guaranteed to maintain a perfect seal underwater to a depth of 200 meters.

The dial is a single sealed piece. Indexes are not applied in the usual manner but stamped. The axis and the attachment of the hands are reinforced. The horns are protected against warping and solidified by a crossbar. The crown, too, is protected, as is the crystal by the slightly elevated bezel. And it comes with an original “bumper”—a removable protector composed of silicone and nylon that matches perfectly with the crown, the case and the back, without disturbing legibility. Useful and functional, the protector gives the INOX its unique look.

Made to last, with exceptionally strong characteristics, it remains nevertheless a harmoniously designed timepiece – compact and solid yet sleek. The steel has been subtly sculpted and polished to catch the light. The 2014 collection is available with dial and strap in black, khaki green or navy blue. All versions are equipped with a Swiss made Ronda quartz movement.

Highest Quality Standards for Ultimate Functionality
Some of the I.N.O.X. tests were so insanely extreme they merit special mention. For example, an I.N.O.X. is tested to be capable of resisting:

  • 8 tons compression under a hydraulic press; I.N.O.X. can also resist being driven over by a truck of 25 tons or a military tank weighing up to 64 tons.
  • Temperatures shocks from -57 ° to +71 ° Celsius. This corresponds to the standard set by the US Army for the manufacture of missiles.
  • Salt spray corrosion or chemical attacks by all kinds of fuels, oils, solvents, cleaning products, insecticides… including sulfuric and nitric acid solution. Again, a standard not for watches but for the military, borrowed from the US Army.
  • A fall of 10 meters onto a smooth concrete surface. This is the equivalent of a drop from a 3-floor building, with an impact speed of 50 km / hour.
  • Exposure to a flame at a distance of 5mm for more than one minute, which corresponds to a temperature of +1,200 degrees Celsius.
  • Glacial cold. The watch will function non-stop and without complaint, even when frozen in an ice cube for 168 hours.
  • Extreme conditions at a stratospheric altitude of 21,300 meters, which is twice the height at which the airliners fly.

These crazy performances also prove useful in everyday life: I.N.O.X., for example, will emerge unscathed after two hours in a washing machine… at 90° C and with full spin cycle. Given I.N.O.X.’s extraordinary robustness, one would expect it to look like a bunker. Its elegance, however, is apparent at first glance.

The refined design of the 43 mm stainless steel case is enhanced by a skilfully polished hexagonal bezel. Available in three colours (black dial and strap, khaki green dial and strap, navy blue dial and strap), it can be further personalized with a bumper. A totally new accessory in the watchmaking world, this removable protector in silicone and nylon lets you change the watch’s look to match your mood. Office, mountain, leisure and evening, nothing beats the I.N.O.X. for versatility: it can be worn anywhere, anytime.

Awards

  • I.N.O.X. has won a number of international awards and special mentions, including: ‐ WatchPro, the watch magazine of reference in the UK, chose I.N.O.X. over Rolex Deep Sea, Omega Seamaster Diver and Cartier Calibre for their “Sports Watch of the Year” award.
  • I.N.O.X. was selected by the American monthly Mens journal as one of the 53 most innovative products of the year.
  • The http://www.victorinoxwatches.com micro site, specifically designed to highlight the many qualities of the I.N.O.X. watch, including through videos, was designated “Website of the Day” by Design Licks, a platform showcasing the world’s most creative and inspiring websites.

Victorinox Swiss Army Night Vision 2014 Edition

The new Night Vision has all the features that made this Victorinox Swiss Army innovation such a bestselling success. This year, the iconic model with multi-function lighting module built into its case is offered with two new bracelets: “Black Ice” PVD steel or a black leather strap. The sporty, classic and versatile character of this precision measuring instrument is more expressive than ever.

Equipped with a stainless steel bracelet with “Black Ice” PVD, the new model sports the same features that have made the Night Vision a success since it first appeared in 2003. Victorinox Swiss Army is also launching a second edition, with a 42mm stainless steel case and anthracite gray dial, but accompanied by a black leather strap.

The Night Vision line illustrates a core value of Victorinox Swiss Army: functionality. The fact that it has for many years been among the brand’s best sellers is not just a coincidence. It illustrates perfectly the philosophy of the family business, combining the benefits of state-of-the-art Swiss watchmaking, the useful functions of a professional tool, and attractive contemporary design.

The evocation of Victorinox Swiss Army’s original métier underlines the link between the famous multi-function Swiss Army knife and a watch offering six of its own useful lighting functions, all operated using a push button located between 8 and 9 o’clock on the case.

For example, the wearer can illuminate the dial for optimal time reading, turn on a continuous beam and even launch an SOS rescue signal, in Morse code, that can be seen clearly a kilometer away. This avant-garde lighting feature uses low-energy consumption LED technology that is perfectly integrated into the sleek design of the dial and bracelet.

Developed and manufactured in Switzerland, the electronic module of the Night Vision is an exclusive Victorinox Swiss Army creation.

HUBLOT BIG BANG UNICO World Poker Tour Limited Edition

By signing with the World Poker Tour in Las Vegas, Swiss watch maker Hublot has become the first luxury brand to invest in the international professional poker circuit as Official Timekeeper and Official Watch. To seal the presence of the Swiss watchmaking brand in this new field, a Big Bang World Poker Tour®, with a design heavily inspired by the game, was presented at an event organised in Las Vegas and attended by CEO of Hublot Ricardo Guadalupe, as well as the greatest players on the circuit.

Ricardo Guadalupe, CEO of Hublot, chose to announce the partnership at the WPT® Five Diamond World Poker Classic, WPT Alpha8™ Las Vegas, organised and televised (FOX Sports) from 15th to 20th December at the Bellagio, the legendary Las Vegas hotel and capital of international poker. The event was attended by the greatest professional and amateur players on the poker circuit.

Hublot was the first luxury brand to enter professional football in 2006, with the immense marketing and commercial success that we expect of the brand. It was also the first luxury brand to enter American basketball in 2011. That same year, Ferrari chose Hublot to be its Official Timekeeper and Official Watch. In 2014, in addition to poker, Hublot was also the first luxury brand to enter cricket, one of the world’s most popular sports, particularly widespread in India, Australia, the Middle East and in all Commonwealth countries, which offers Hublot great additional geographic coverage on four continents.

To mark the announcement of Hublot’s entry into the world of poker, the brand has developed a limited-edition BIG BANG UNICO World Poker Tour with a design that suitably encapsulates the poker world.

The watch chosen to entice the players was the iconic Big Bang, equipped with the in-house UNICO Manufacture Chronograph, unique in the industry for its column wheel and double clutch visible on the dial side.

The new detail – which gives this watch its resolutely “poker” character – is a bezel made of 18K King Gold or steel that features an interplay of two different treatments, polishing and micro-blasting, which in particular showcase a heart, spade, club and diamond, the distinctive and universal symbols of card players.

The UNICO Chrono movement is revealed thanks to a skeleton dial featuring the famous voluminous indexes and Arabic numerals, hollowed out and filled with red SuperLuminova ™.

Two counters encircled by polished silver-plated rings, the first displaying the minutes at 3 o’clock and the second showing the small seconds at 9 o’clock, along with the date window located at 3 o’clock, complete the overall effect.

The sapphire crystal of the case-back also bears the exclusive symbol of the World Poker Tour® in transfer form.

This 45.5 mm diameter Big Bang Unico World Poker Tour® is available in two versions: a limited edition of only 100 numbered pieces in 18K King Gold (Hublot 18K gold with an extra 5% platinum which gives it an even more intense red colour, thereby making it even more precious), and a more impact resistant steel edition, of 200 numbered pieces.

Each watch is equipped with the famous, exclusive Easy One Click system which allows the wearer to switch easily between the three straps that come with the watch. All are made of alligator stitched onto rubber, and come in black, red and above all gold or silver treated.

Victorinox Swiss Army Maverick Sport 2014 Edition

Maverick Sport has a very strong and sporty character, built on subtle contrasts. In 2014, the collection is enriched with eight new models: four three handed watches and four chronographs, all with original detailing on their dials. The three colours, red, blue and yellow, are a nod to the flag of the town of Ibach, where Victorinox is headquartered. The same signature is on the complementary strap in NATO fabric that supplements the original black one. All are powered by Swiss Made Ronda quartz movements.

Maverick Sport is built for action. The design is very distinctive: whether the classic three handed watch or the chronograph, it immediately asserts its sporty character through an aesthetically pleasing play of contrasts. The polished and brushed 43 mm stainless steel case with polished angles, common to both models, is demonstratively robust, a quality further enhanced by the graphic crown guard. The dial in silver or black and surrounded by a black unidirectional rotating bezel, with oversized hour numbers for easier reading, is equally uncompromising.

Every detail on the dial bears the signature of the house: the flange displays military time, and the blue hour hand is generously covered with luminescent material, as is the minute hand. catching red adorns the second hand, the Victorinox shield at 12 o’clock, and the hands on the two chronograph counters. The date window – at 3’o clock on the watch versions and 6’o clock on the chronograph – is highlighted with a thin yellow line.

Red, blue and yellow are the three colours on the flag of the municipality of Ibach, the company was founded in 1884 and where Victorinox is still headquartered today. The tricolour signature is repeated the NATO fabric strap; though, of course, both watch and chronograph models are also available with a metal bracelet in brushed steel.

Inside beat Swiss-Made quartz movements: Ronda 715 for the watch, Ronda 5030D for the chronograph.

Victorinox Swiss Army Alliance 30mm, Quartz

With this newest addition to the Alliance collection, Victorinox Swiss Army proves once again that refinement and elegance combine perfectly with functionality and reliability. Powered by Swiss-Made quartz movements, the three new models for 2014 in powdery pastel colours subtly combine contrasting materials: steel for the case, mother of pearl for the dials, and delicate leather for the straps.

With their slender 30 mm stainless steel cases, the new feminine Alliance editions are sleek-lined exemplars of simplicity and delicacy.

Alliance is elegance personified, highlighted by a series of exquisite details and contrasting materials. The polished steel of the case plays against the iridescence of the mother of pearl dial and the softness of the brushed leather strap, which is particularly pleasant to the touch. The combination is discreet and refined, as are the colours choices: blue, gray and pink. The powdery pastel tones of the dials and straps create a harmonious monochromatic whole that is undeniably feminine.

Alliance remains faithful to the codes that have made the collection such a success for the last three years. The polished, pyramid-shaped indexes play with the light, as do the finely faceted central hands. At 3 and 9 o’clock, the indexes give way to two Arabic numerals. The date window appears at 6 o’clock. Finally, still on the dial, an iconic feature – the famous Swiss cross emblem at noon – completes the alluring design.

Inside, at the Alliance’s heart, beats the Swiss Made Ronda 705 quartz movement.

Victorinox Swiss Army Alliance Mechanical 2014 Edition

Victorinox Swiss Army Alliance is an elegant and sober watch boasting the best elements of Swiss-Made mechanical watchmaking. This year’s model is equipped with a self-winding ETA 2824 movement, famous for its robustness and reliability. An important detail marks the evolution of the 2014 edition: as a signature, the second hand now sports the famous Victorinox red, as does the “Automatic” inscription on the dial. The Alliance is available with two dials, dark gray or eggshell, and two bracelets, polished and satined steel or ecologically tanned black leather.

The lines are classic and clean. Alliance goes back to the basics and focuses on its primary function: to display the time as accurately and clearly as possible. To perform this task, the watch is equipped with an ETA 2824 mechanical automatic movement, among the most robust and reliable in Swiss watchmaking.

To accompany this high-quality engine, Victorinox Swiss Army has selected only the finest components. The stainless steel case is a generous 40 mm in diameter. On its dial, every detail has been designed to ensure at-a-glance legibility. The polished, pyramid-shaped indexes subtly catch and reflect the light. They alternate with Arabic numerals at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock. As on all the brand’s watches, the Swiss cross emblem stands proudly at 12 o’clock.

The sword-shaped and faceted hour and minute hands are topped with a second hand whose counterweight suggests the iconic shape of the Swiss Army Knife. It bears the famous Victorinox red, as does the “Automatic” inscription at 6 o’clock, just above the date window. Another brand signature — military time — is discreetly embossed at the edge of the indexes, so as not to disturb the aesthetic harmony of the whole.

Alliance is available with two dial options: dark gray or eggshell. The tones are highlighted by a delicately brushed sunray finish. Two bracelet choices are offered: polished and satined steel or an ecologically tanned black leather strap, both equipped with folding clasp.
