NOMOS Glashütte Tangente neomatik blue gold

NOMOS Glashütte presents two Blue Gold editions of its Tangente Neomatik watch.

Tangente is a best-selling model in the NOMOS Glashütte collection. It stands out with its flat stainless steel case with angled lugs and the sleek linear typography.

The German fine watchmaking company based in Glashütte has created new 35 mm and 38.5 mm models with the distinct blue gold dial.

The new blue dial with sunburst polishing gets its deep shimmer as it is gold-plated before being galvanized. It boasts rhodium-plated hands, silver numerals and indices, and the gold “neomatik” text denoting the efficient and highly precise mechanical movement (Cal. DUW 3001) beating inside this watch.

The in-house DUW 3001 automatic caliber is equipped with the proprietary escapement NOMOS swing system. The rotor winds the watch in both directions. Measuring just 3.2 mm in thickness, this exceptionally flat calibre offers a power reserve of up to 43 hours.

NOMOS Glashütte wins the “Highest Quality” seal from the Institute for Management and Economic Research (IMWF) and F.A.Z.-Institute

German fine watch manufacture NOMOS Glashütte was the winner in the competitive comparisons conducted by IMWF Institute for Management and Economic Research and F.A.Z.-Institute.

Product and Service, Availability, Customer Satisfaction, Innovation and Quality: In nearly all categories of the “Highest Quality 2021” study, “NOMOS Glashütte emerges as the industry winner and clearly occupies 1st place,” according to the study.

NOMOS Glashütte received 100 points, Omega 77.6 points, and Rolex 74.6. The researchers did not find any information concerning NOMOS Glashütte’s environmental sustainability efforts on the internet, which the manufacturer will have to communicate more effectively in the future.

The “Highest Quality 2021” study, which analyzes every conceivable aspect of quality, is probably one of the largest and most extensive of its kind. Over the course of twelve months, 438 million online sources—including 154 million blogs, four million news sites, a million press releases, and several million social media posts—are collated and analyzed using artificial intelligence and social listening tools.

After all, quality has long been one of the crucial factors when making a purchasing decision. Comprehensive quality assurance and quality certificates, along with more quality information, builds trust in products and brands.

In addition to the online analysis on the work of over 22,000 companies, as described above, extensive questionnaires were also evaluated as part of the “Highest Quality 2021” study.

The IMWF Institute for Management and Economic Research, commissioned by the F.A.Z.-Institute to conduct the study, has the task of bridging the gap between science and business. In the wake of digitalization, the Hamburg-based institute has established itself as a laboratory for big data and artificial intelligence projects. The F.A.Z.-Institute has stood for relevant information and professional recognition for 30 years.

NOMOS Glashütte Tangente 38 50 ans de Médecins Sans Frontières Special Edition

To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Médecins Sans Frontières (known as Doctors Without Borders), German watch manufacturer NOMOS Glashütte presents a special edition timepiece from its Tangente 38 series.

Doctors Without Borders was founded in Paris on December 22, 1971, to help people in war zones and those in the wake of inevitable disasters. Their first mission in a conflict zone occurred during the civil war in Lebanon, where doctors and nurses treated casualties from both sides in a hospital basement.

Today, Doctors Without Borders operates in more than 70 countries. More than of its 65,000 members assist people caught in crises. They are doctors, nurses, logistics experts, administrators, epidemiologists, laboratory technicians, mental health professionals, and others whose work is guided by humanitarian principles and medical ethics. In 1999, the humanitarian organization won the Nobel Peace Prize for their work.

For ten years, NOMOS Glashütte has been making timepieces for supporting this organization. To this date, the brand has made over 10,000 watches and 14 different models for humanitarian aid, all identifiable by the red twelve. And for each watch, between 100 and 250 Euros go directly to Doctors Without Borders.

2021 marks the 50th anniversary of Médecins Sans Frontières as well as a longstanding partnership of ten years. To celebrate this milestone, the Glashütte based Manufacture has created a special edition of Tangente 38, the famous NOMOS hand-wound wristwatch with a diameter of 38 millimeters.

This manual-wound steel timepiece can be distinguished by the inscription 50 ANS DE MÉDECINS SANS FRONTIÈRES on lower part of its white dial, below the small seconds counter.

As a special edition, 50 ans de Médecins Sans Frontières is limited to 2,021 units worldwide. For each watch, 100 Euros goes to Doctors Without Borders.

To certify the special status of this timepiece, the stainless steel case back is engraved with limited edition number X/2021 and 50 ANS DE MÉDECINS SANS FRONTIÈRES.

The white hands glow blue in the dark. Like its sister model in black, the watch has a diameter of 42 millimeters and is water-resistant to a depth of 1000 ft/300 meters. This makes it suited for all sports, including those in and under water. A signal-red ring around the stem of the crown alerts the wearer, before contact with the water, if the crown is not screwed tight.

The movement is the well-known and patented DUW 6101 date caliber from the NOMOS Glashütte neomatik series. It features a bidirectional, rapidly adjustable date with a super-small timeframe during which the date cannot be set, and an extremely efficient bidirectional winding rotor.

NOMOS Glashütte Autobahn Director’s Cut Limited Edition

NOMOS Glashütte expands its Autobahn watch collection by introducing three new limited edition models: A3, A7 & A9 — named after major freeways in Germany.

Copyright: NOMOS Glashütte

With three new “Director’s Cut” versions of the automatic watch Autobahn, NOMOS Glashütte is celebrating 175 years of Glashütte watchmaking heritage in a very contemporary way.

Copyright: NOMOS Glashütte

Designed by renowned designer Werner Aisslinger, the Autobahn Director’s Cut collection offers three distinct timepieces: A3 in white-orange red, A7 in blue-yellow, and A9 in black-gray. The inspiration for these watches comes from the dashboards of beautiful vintage cars and other NOMOS timepieces.

Copyright: NOMOS Glashütte

Named after the tourist route from Holland through Passau into Austria, the NOMOS Autobahn A3 features a white dial with a luminous ring in orange red.

Copyright: NOMOS Glashütte

The Autobahn A9 timepiece boasts a black and gray toned dial inspired by a night trip along the freeway, which gives the watch its name. As the longest German freeway, the A7 connects the north and the south. The Autobahn model with dark blue dial and yellow luminous ring is named after this route.

Copyright: NOMOS Glashütte

The new NOMOS Autobahn Director’s Cut watches are equipped with the efficient DUW 6101 self-winding movement. Despite the date complication, the calibre is exceptionally slender, measuring just 3.2mm in height.

The lean design of the in-house built caliber enables the dial to transition from curve to curve: Once around the edge of the raised dial, and again on the sub-seconds dial. The elegant curves give the impression of depth on the dial, a dynamic and novel feature for such a timepiece. The dial incorporates a generously proportioned and patented date window at 6 o’ clock.

Copyright: NOMOS Glashütte

The elongated date window at 6 o’ clock displays yesterday, today, and tomorrow all at once. The date mechanism has received a patent: Positioned far out on the edge of the dial, controlled by a program disk (and not by the usual 24 hour wheel), this design saves space and downtime. The bidirectional quick correction with a special clutch is user-friendly and uncomplicated.

Thanks to the striking luminous ring, all three special models are legible in the dark. These limited-edition models have been adjusted according to chronometer standards in Glashütte.

Copyright: NOMOS Glashütte

To mark the occasion of 175 years of watchmaking in Glashütte, each is limited to 175 pieces worldwide. The self-winding movement can be admired through the sapphire crystal case back. Each timepiece features the limited-edition number and the inscription AUTOBAHN DIRECTOR’S CUT LIMITED EDITION on the case back.

Copyright: NOMOS Glashütte

Measuring just 10.5 mm in height, these elegant automatic watches are water resistant to 10 atm, 100 meters.

The bracelet with its characteristic openings and the NOMOS secure deployant clasp is, like the watch, a creation by the renowned designer, and is only available with these special versions. As such, the Director’s Cut bracelet is also limited edition.

NOMOS Glashütte wins the 2021 Green Good Design Award

Tangente Update from NOMOS Glashütte has received the 2021 Green Good Design Award for innovative and sustainable product design.

The Good Design Awards have been celebrating exceptional product design for over 70 years. Presented annually by the Chicago Athenaeum, it has become the most prestigious international design prize—and NOMOS Glashütte has been honored to receive this award six times for its mechanical timepieces.

Now, the Green Good Design Awards highlight products that are not only produced well, but sustainably too. Under the banner, “Build A Better World Now,” designs for buildings and products that use the most sophisticated methods and technology to reduce environmental impact and promote sustainability are given the recognition they deserve. The German city of Hamburg has been been announced as Green City of the Year 2021.

In the product design category, Tangente Update from NOMOS Glashütte is among the winners—the fourth major award for this timepiece, following the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève, iF Design Award and European Product Design Award.

Tangente, the iconic NOMOS timepiece, has been a design classic since its launch in 1992. This new iteration, Tangente neomatik 41 Update, features a unique ring date placed far out around the edge of the dial, with two red markers that frame the current date.

This new kind of display, now patented, was created by NOMOS’ R&D and product design departments before being handcrafted by expert watchmakers in Glashütte, Germany—demonstrating the brand’s commitment to in-house production throughout. Like all NOMOS timepieces, Tangente Update was made to last a lifetime—using high-quality materials such as stainless steel, sapphire crystal glass, and brass.

When it comes to in-house production, NOMOS Glashütte works as efficiently as possible before recycling waste materials responsibly. For example, the cooling oil, metal filings and used brass blanks generated by the production process are all returned to the suppliers to be converted back into raw materials. The water used to rinse newly produced parts is also purified before being returned to the wider water supply.

The vast majority of watchmaking parts, down to the smallest pinion, are produced in-house by NOMOS in Glashütte. In fact, up to 95% of a caliber’s value is generated on site—which is an exceptional achievement in itself. This sustainable approach to watch production shortens supply chains, and therefore emissions generated by transporting materials. It also allows the company to determine the quality of its timepieces in every detail.
