Movado Museum Classic, Edition 2017

One of the world’s premier watchmakers and renowned for its modern design aesthetic, Movado is the hallmark of some of the most famous timepieces ever created, most notably, the Movado Museum® Watch.

Designed in 1947 by Bauhaus-influenced artist Nathan George Horwitt, the watch dial defined by a solitary dot at 12, symbolizing the sun at high noon, has been acclaimed for purity of design unrivaled in the history of time-keeping. When Horwitt’s dial was selected for the permanent design collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, in 1960, it became the first watch dial ever awarded this distinction. Known today as the Movado Museum Watch, this legendary dial is regarded as an icon of Modernism.

For 2017, Movado presents three sophisticated additions to its signature Museum® Classic watch collection. Crafted in solid stainless steel or yellow gold PVD-finished steel, the two new men’s watches feature round polished 40 mm cases, 7.40 mm deep. The ladies model is elegantly understated fashioned in polished yellow gold PVD-finished steel with a 28 mm case, 6.05 mm deep.

Cool and clean, the men’s stainless steel version has a simple blue lacquer Museum dial detailed with elegant silver-toned dauphine hour and minute hands, Movado’s signature concave dot at 12 o’clock and silver-toned metallic printing.

Simply sophisticated, the yellow gold PVD-finished models feature iconic black dials with yellow gold-toned accents and lettering. All three new watches are presented on soft black textured calfskin straps finished with a matching stainless steel or yellow gold PVD-finished tongue buckle. Water-resistant to 3 ATM / 30 meters.

In 2015, Movado unveiled a new generation of modern automatic timepieces with the launch of the 1881 Automatic. Powered by fine Swiss self-winding movements, this contemporary collection was designed for those with an appreciation for Movado’s modern design aesthetic as well as the intricate craft of mechanical timekeeping.

Now for 2017, Movado perpetuates the collection’s blend of sophisticated engineering and distinctive modern styling with the introduction of a striking dress model for men. Featuring a simple round 39.5 mm case, 9.0 mm deep, this elegant watch is crafted in rose gold PVD-finished steel, topped by a sapphire crystal. Movado Edge™ Edition 2017

Movado launched the Movado Edge collection, developed in collaboration with world-renowned industrial designer Yves Behar and his design firm fuseproject, in 2015. Uniting the talents of two of the most important industrial designers of the last 70 years, Nathan George Horwitt and Yves Béhar, Movado brought a dynamic new level of design innovation and sophistication to the legendary Museum Dial.

“We do not know time as a number sequence, but by the position of the sun as the earth rotates,” said Horwitt. In 1947, he conceived the iconic Museum Watch – its dial defined by a single gold dot at 12 symbolizing the sun at high noon, with the simple moving hands suggesting the earth’s rotation. Regarded today as an icon of mid-twentieth century Modernism, the Museum Dial remains one of the most recognized and acclaimed watch dial designs of all time.

Movado Edge reinterprets the clean, minimalistic aesthetic of the legendary Museum Dial with stunning new shape and texture. The signature dot rises from the dial’s deeply concave, sandblasted surface. Sculpted linear peaks around the dial’s edge suggest the sun’s rays, while subtly marking the minutes.

The Edge launch collection included men’s, women’s and chronograph models on stainless steel link bracelets with push-button deployment clasps, and black leather or silicone straps with polished stainless steel buckles. Many styles featured an exciting touch of unexpected color on the dial.

Now for 2017, Movado adds four new men’s 2-hand models to the transformative Edge collection. Each features a round 40 mm case, 8.50 mm deep, crafted in solid stainless steel, or coffee-colored or black ion-plated steel. Topped by a flat sapphire crystal, the concave sandblasted aluminum dials with signature ray-textured edge are detailed by a raised polished tonal dot at 12 o’clock, a matte-finish hour hand and glossy minute hand.

Cool and modern, the stainless steel model with tube-style lugs features a sandblasted silver-toned dial with polished silver-toned dot and matte/polished steel hands. The free-falling double-faced cognac calfskin leather strap imparts the look and feel of a contemporary dress watch. It secures to the wrist with a polished steel classic tongue buckle.

Dark and distinctive, the black ion-plated model with polished tube-style lugs creates tone-on-tone mystery with a sandblasted black dial detailed by a polished black dot. A matte hour hand and polished minute hand in stainless steel lend startling contrast to the darkened landscape. A black ion-plated steel classic tongue buckle comfortably secures the black free-falling double-faced calfskin leather strap to the wrist.

Entirely unexpected, the third new model captures attention with its sandblasted green dial detailed by a polished tonal dot, matte-finished bright orange hour hand and glossy black minute hand. The integrated matte black silicone strap is finished with a classic tongue buckle in black ion-plated steel.

A sophisticated palette of muted tones imparts a modern look to the fourth new model. A warm coffee-colored ion-plated steel case frames the soft purple dial with polished tonal dot, matte light purple hour hand and glossy black minute hand. Conforming and comfortable, the integrated smoky purple silicone strap secures with a coffee-colored ion-plated steel classic tongue buckle.

Futuristic in look and feel, these newest additions to the transformative Edge collection reflect Movado’s unique vision – a 21st century collaboration of fine Swiss watchmaking and design-focused imagination.  Water resistant to 3 ATM / 30 meters.

Movado Esperanza®, Edition 2017

Introduced in the 1980’s as an elegant new expression of the Art Deco, the Movado Esperanza® collection quickly surged in popularity. Distinctive in character, Esperanza was defined by its striking, architecturally inspired bracelet design with long, open vertical links. This signature bracelet was integrated with a round, softly curved case that complemented the simple purity of the Museum dial.

In 2016, Movado re-launched the Esperanza with the introduction of four women’s models crafted in solid stainless steel, and updated with a modern hinged case attachment offering ‘free falling’ wrist-conforming comfort, and new push-button deployment clasp for seamless elegance and convenience. Styled with Movado’s classic concave dot and dauphine hands, Esperanza’s re-designed Museum dials offered subtle double-layered dimension with a raised outer ring of contrasting texture creating tonal intrigue.

Now for 2017, Movado adds an elegant new women’s model to this sophisticated collection. With luxurious, two-toned versatility, this new Esperanza is fashioned in stainless steel and rose gold PVD with a round 28 mm case, a mere 5.70 mm deep. The polished rose gold-toned bezel frames a lustrous white mother-of-pearl Museum dial, simply detailed by a sand-blasted outer ring, rose gold-toned dot and matching rose gold-toned dauphine hour and minute hands.

Elegant and sophisticated, Esperanza is an evolving and best-selling collection that has always expressed Movado’s quest for timeless artistry in watch design. Water resistant to 3 ATM / 30 meters.

Movado Sapphire™ Lady (0606048 & 0607049)

A premier Movado design, Sapphire achieves its streamlined appearance through a flat sapphire crystal that flows to the edge of the round, bezel-free case, creating a smooth, seamless surface. In 2016, this sophisticated collection celebrates more than a quarter century of forward-looking design with two new women’s models that brilliantly capture Movado’s modern design aesthetic.

Elegantly monochromatic with an outer ring of matching metallization coloring the inner surface of the crystal, these timepieces introduce a new jewelry-inspired bracelet composed of a single row of fluidly faceted links. A push-button deployment clasp secures the bracelet seamlessly to the wrist.

Crafted in cool stainless steel or warm yellow gold PVD-finished steel, these Sapphire styles feature complimentary Museum dials in soft gray or gold-plated mother-of-pearl, each detailed by a coordinating silver-toned or gold-toned concave dot and dauphine hour and minute hands.

Movado Edge Watch Collection – In Collaboration with Industrial Designer Yves Béhar

Swiss watch brand Movado announces the launch of the new Movado Edge watch collection, developed in collaboration with world-renowned industrial designer Yves Béhar and his design firm fuseproject. Uniting the talents of two of the most important industrial designers of the last 70 years, Nathan George Horwitt and Yves Béhar, Movado has brought a dynamic new level of design innovation and sophistication to the legendary Museum Dial.

Movado’s legendary Museum Dial was created in 1947 by artist/designer Nathan George Horwitt. Stark and striking, the iconic dial has no numbers. It is defined only by a solitary gold dot at 12 o’clock, symbolizing the sun at high noon, while its simple moving hands suggest the daily rotation of the earth on its axis. This conceptual, groundbreaking dial is one of the most acclaimed watch designs of all time, and one of the most important of the 20th Century. Horwitt’s original design was accepted into the permanent collection of MoMA in 1960.

Movado Edge renews the brand with a thoroughly modern aesthetic through a heightened industrial lens, characterized by a new, visually tactile form. Celebrating Movado’s industrial design heritage rooted in the Bauhaus movement, a synergy of art and design are revealed in the collection’s simplified, geometric forms.

The dial reinterprets Horwitt’s original vision in three dimensions, with the signature dot emerging from the dial’s curved, newly textured landscape. Sculpted ridges that form around the edge of the dial suggest the sun’s rays, while subtly marking the minutes – a beautiful and purposeful design element. Fusing form, function and inspiration, this transformative new collection includes men’s, women’s and chronograph models.

MOVADO Museum® Classic

While the history of Movado is brimming with milestone events, including more than 100 patents registered and over 200 international prizes won since its founding in 1881, the year 1947 was a momentous date in the evolution of the brand and indeed of design as a whole.

Based on the principle that time measurement is first and foremost linked to the Earth’s rotation around the sun before being a mathematical division, artist Nathan George Horwitt drew an entirely numeral-free dial bearing only a 12 o’clock dot symbolising the sun at its zenith. Acclaimed for the purity of its design, this model went down in history as the Movado Museum® Watch. The brand now presents its new Museum® Classic model.

While it retains the original artistic simplicity of the dial with its famous dot at 12 o’clock, this variation is enriched with subtle aesthetic details orchestrated in a remarkably understated way. The tone-on-tone details endow the black lacquered dial with a subtle sense of depth, while the lugs prolong the flowing lines of the steel case and a black calfskin strap sets the perfect finishing touch.

Now for 2014, Movado expands it’s Circa collection with two sophisticated new men’s models on mesh bracelets. These new bracelets are designed with mesh-textured removable back links and a butterfly deployment clasp to offer a smooth, seamless look with an adjustable fit.

The polished intricate mesh-link bracelet imparts a seamless, flowing, thoroughly modern look.

The second new model, a sport chronograph, is dramatically rendered in polished, all-black PVD-finished stainless steel. Its substantial 42mm case is equipped with two chronograph pushers.

The black matte powder finish dial with tachymeter-scale reflector ring is defined by applied silver-toned cone-shaped markers and Arabic numeral at 12 o’clock, printed silver minute index, silver-toned dauphine hour and minute hands, and center mounted chronograph seconds hands, three black subdials with silver rings and markings – a small seconds hand  at 2 o’clock, chronograph tenths-of-a-second counter at 6 o’clock, and chronograph 30-minute counter at 10  o’clock – and a square date display at 4 o’clock.
