Mido Ocean Star – Inspired By Architecture 20th Anniversary Limited Edition, Reference M026.430.17.041.01

2022 marks 20 years of Mido’s passion for architecture. The third creation of an anniversary series encompassing five models, the Ocean Star Inspired By Architecture reliably accompanies the most remarkable expeditions at sea, just like the monument that inspired it – the Europa Point Lighthouse, located in the Strait of Gibraltar.

Mido Ocean Star – Inspired By Architecture 20TH Anniversary Limited Edition, Reference M026.430.17.041.01

Each watch from the limited series of 1,841 timepieces – chosen to commemorate the year the monument engraved on its case back was built – is delivered in a special dedicated presentation box, accompanied by a medallion.

Created in 2002, the All Dial collection was the first to evoke one of ancient Rome’s most famous monuments in its design: the immense Colosseum amphitheatre. Ever since, the art of architecture has been written into the creative DNA of Mido and has influenced all of its collections. Just as the Europa Point Lighthouse acts as a landmark on the Mediterranean Sea, the high-performance, reliable Ocean Star also supports seafarers in their quests.

The unidirectional rotating bezel with a blue aluminium ring tops the dial in a matching ‘velvet’ finish. The shape of the index at 12 o’clock, adorned with a touch of red, recalls the silhouette of the lighthouse which was built to guide men embarking on new maritime conquests. The Super-LumiNova® dot, meanwhile, evokes the light that safely guides them.

The day and date indications can be read off in an aperture at 3 o’clock. To ensure a flawless display, even underwater and at night, the bezel, indexes and hands are adorned with white Super-LumiNova®.

The varnished red tip of the seconds hand, enables the wearer to accurately track how much time has elapsed. The same red has been chosen for the stitching adorning the blue fabric strap with rolled edges, in a subtle nod to the lighthouse’s characteristic red stripe.

Mido Ocean Star – Inspired By Architecture 20TH Anniversary Limited Edition, Reference M026.430.17.041.01

The new Ocean Star Inspired By Architecture is powered by the Caliber 80, a next-generation automatic mechanical movement that has been carefully decorated according to watchmaking tradition. It offers up to 80 hours of autonomy.

Mido All Dial 20th Anniversary Limited Edition, Reference M8340.4.B3.11

This year, Swiss watch brand Mido is celebrating 20 years of architectural inspiration through five limited series. The anniversary edition of All Dial – in steel with a grained anthracite dial – inaugurates this exceptional series.

Mido All Dial 20th Anniversary Limited Edition, Reference M8340.4.B3.11

In 2002, the Mido All Dial collection was born. For the very first time, the All Dial collection is directly inspired by a monument – the extraordinary Colosseum in Rome. With a unique structured multi-level dial and round case with integrated strap, All Dial stands out thanks to its original aesthetics and timeless lines, reliability and strength.

Mido All Dial 20th Anniversary Limited Edition, Reference M8340.4.B3.11

The All Dial 20th Anniversary model comes in a limited edition of 2,022 timepieces, with high-precision chronometer movement. Each watch is presented in a special decorative case featuring a collectable commemorative medallion.

Mido All Dial 20th Anniversary Limited Edition, Reference M8340.4.B3.11

Created in 2002, the All Dial collection will be the first to evoke one of ancient Rome’s most famous monuments in its design: the immense Colosseum amphitheatre. This strong and contemporary watch has a unique shaped case and different dial levels paying tribute to the visionary architecture symbolic of the Eternal City. Ever since, the art of architecture has been written into the creative DNA of Mido and has influenced all of its collections.

Mido All Dial 20th Anniversary Limited Edition, Reference M8340.4.B3.11

The grained anthracite dial has a multi-level circular composition. The inner flange recalls the stands of the amphitheatre as seen from above, while the sandblasted texture is reminiscent of the building’s thousand-year-old stones and the indexes represent the arcades of the historic monument.

Mido All Dial 20th Anniversary Limited Edition, Reference M8340.4.B3.11

The round design also echoes the Roman Colosseum, with a 42 mm steel case that opens onto a perfectly visible display, thanks to sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective treatment on both sides. For easy night-time visibility, there is white Super-LumiNova® on the indexes and hands. The day and date are shown at 3 o’clock to complete the display.

Mido All Dial 20th Anniversary Limited Edition, Reference M8340.4.B3.11

A screwed crown and back ensure that it is water-resistant up to a pressure of 10 bars (100 m/330 ft). The archaeological treasure is also evoked on the integrated satin-finished steel strap with polished elements, reminiscent of the amphitheatre’s arches.

The All Dial watch is equipped with the ETA 2836-2 COSC-certified automatic chronometer movement with refined finishes. The oscillating weight is decorated with the Côtes de Genève and engraved with the Mido logo. This calibre offers a comfortable power reserve of up to 38 hours. Finally, the back of this anniversary model’s case is engraved with a drawing of the Colosseum.

Swiss watch brand Mido celebrates 20 years of its unique alliance with architecture

Since 2002, Mido has been drawing creative inspiration from architecture. That was the year of the All Dial, its first collection, whose contemporary design was inspired by the Colosseum in Rome.

To celebrate 20 years of this unique alliance, the brand is set to unveil five exclusive models from its flagship collections: All Dial, Baroncelli, Ocean Star, Multifort and Commander. Each model pays homage to the iconic building to which it is linked. Presented in a special anniversary box, the creations from this architectural series will be revealed throughout 2022.

Mido has been creating watches with aesthetics and mechanics that stand the test of time since 1918. It is only natural, then, that this commitment has led the brand to be inspired by architecture and iconic buildings that also defy time, and in which Mido recognises its four essential values: innovation, functionality, aesthetics and timelessness.

Created in 2002, the All Dial collection will be the first to evoke one of ancient Rome’s most famous monuments in its design: the immense Colosseum amphitheatre. Ever since, the art of architecture has been written into the creative DNA of Mido and has influenced all of its collections. In 2019, this association even gave rise to the lines of a new women’s collection, the Rainflower. Petals, interwoven on the dial and case, are reminiscent of the lotus shape of the ArtScience Museum in Singapore.

Throughout 2022, Mido is celebrating 20 years of close ties with architecture, and of course, the unique watchmaking aesthetic it has inspired. Five limited editions from its flagship collections will be unveiled over the coming months. Each of them will pay homage to its own monument, subtly evoked in a detail on the dial and finely engraved on the back of each watch.

The number of pieces is limited according to the inauguration date of each monument, except for All Dial, of which 2,022 copies are available to mark its jubilee year. Presented in a special box adorned with a collectable medallion, each of these exclusive pieces is a tribute to Mido’s passion for architecture.

The first Mido collection directly inspired by this art, this anniversary year opens with the All Dial design watch – which is celebrating its own anniversary. Its dial structure calls to mind the circular construction of the Colosseum, as well as its easily identifiable arches.

Next, the curves of the Baroncelli will elegantly celebrate the round neoclassical shape, a nod to the Rennes Opera House.

Then comes the Ocean Star with its high performance and reliability, notable for its superior water resistance just like the Europa Point Lighthouse in Gibraltar, built to guide sailors safely home from their maritime quests.

The robust Multifort watch highlights its association with the mighty Sydney Harbour Bridge. A rock solid architectural creation conceived in 1932, qualities that it shares with this Mido collection. The Geneva stripes on its dial are reminiscent of the bridge’s vertical suspension cables.

Finally, the Commander – in constant production by the brand for the past six decades – pays tribute to the iconic and historic Eiffel Tower.

Mido Baroncelli Signature Pair Watches (M037.207.21.031.00 & M037.407.21.031.00)

Mido presents an elegant new duo of Baroncelli Signature watches for men and women. The pure lines of the 30 mm and 39 mm polished steel cases are each brought to life with a rose-gold PVD bezel.

Mido Baroncelli Signature Pair Watches

The rounded architecture of these watches evokes the graceful curves of the  Rennes Opera House. The Baroncelli collection, created in 1976, celebrates the timeless beauty of this iconic L’opéra de Rennes building. The crown also echoes the warm and luxurious shade of rose gold.

Mido Baroncelli Signature Pair Watches

With a finely sandblasted centre, the silver dial of the Baroncelli Signature offers a subtle contrast with the hour circle punctuated with polished rose-gold-coloured indexes and topped with delicate faceted hands in the same shade. The date is displayed at 3 o’clock. The balanced lines of the polished steel case, exuding timeless elegance, highlight this discreet harmony.

Mido Baroncelli Signature Pair Watches

The domed sapphire glass with anti-reflection treatment on both sides enhances the fine quality of this silhouette, extending into the comfortable bracelet made from five rows of polished steel.

Mido Baroncelli Signature Pair Watches

Through the sapphire case back, the self-winding movement can be admired. Mido has chosen the Calibre 48 for the women’s version and the Calibre 80 for the men’s timepiece. Both have power reserves of up to 48 and 80 hours respectively.

Mido Baroncelli Signature Pair Watches

Their oscillating weight is embellished with Côtes de Genève and the Mido logo. With flawless accuracy, these two movements are equipped with a Nivachron™ balance-spring. In addition to excellent resistance to shocks as well as wear and tear, this material considerably reduces the effect of magnetic fields.

Mido Baroncelli Signature Pair Watches

The Baroncelli Signature watches are water-resistant up to a pressure of 5 bar (50m / 165 ft).

Mido watch owned by Ettore Bugatti fetches 272’800 Euros

The Mido watch personally owned by Ettore Bugatti has been soldby the Stanislas Machoïr auction house for 272’800 euros (more than 300’000 Swiss francs). Classic cars and classic watches featured in the catalogue for the sale held last Saturday, on April 17th in Toulouse, France.

This unique Mido Bugatti watch illustrates the richness of the watchmaking expertise Mido has offered for the last century. Once again, the brand has made its mark at auction, with one of the most iconic and exclusive pieces from its watchmaking heritage.

Mido watch owned by Ettore Bugatti fetches 272’800 Euros

From 1926 to 1932, Ettore Bugatti ordered four exclusive series of manual winding “Radiator grille watches” from Mido in gold and in silver. The case echoed the shape of a Bugatti radiator – a completely new source of inspiration, then patented by Mido. The founder of the eponymous vehicle manufacturer gave them to friends and family, and to the most deserving drivers and mechanics. This special order of less than hundred pieces included a gold watch owned by Ettore Bugatti himself.

Mido Bugatti watch

Bolstered by the success of the Bugatti series, Mido made versions of this case shape for many other car manufacturers in 1925 and 1926, including Alfa Romeo, Buick, Chevrolet, Chrysler, and Rolls-Royce. The dials on these wristwatches, table clocks and pendant watches – known as “Montres de l’Automobiliste (Motorists’ watches)” – were inspired by the different radiator grille designs used on these vehicles.

Mido Bugatti watch

Founded in 1918, Mido has its own special place in the history of watchmaking, combining timeless design, high-quality materials and technical innovation. At the end of the 1920s, its “Montres de l’Automobiliste (Motorists’ watches)” were presented as elegant pieces, with movements offering resilience and reliability under all circumstances. In the 1930s, Mido made a name for itself in the field of water resistance, using its own system with a cork crown gasket, christened “Aquadura” in 1959.

Mido Bugatti watch

Illustrating this rich expertise, Mido watches from this period are highly sought-after by collectors, from the Mido Bugatti – often fetching five-figure sums at auction – to the iconic Ocean Star Decompression Timer from the 1960s.

Mido Bugatti watch

Today, Mido continues to reinvigorate and redevelop its vintage flagship models, enhancing them with the latest materials and technologies. The brand has just released several new pieces with irresistible vintage charm, such as the refined Multifort Patrimony Chronograph, a reinterpretation of one of the brand’s oldest and most iconic chronograph models: the Multifort Multichrono from 1937.

Also surfing the vintage wave is the Ocean Star Tribute, which takes its inspiration from the aesthetic of divers’ watches from the sixties, and pays tribute to the world of the sea, as well as Mido’s expertise in water resistance, first demonstrated in the 1930s.

Earlier Auction details of Mido Bugatti watch:

Mido Rainflower (Reference M043.207.11.011.00)

Exclusively dedicated to the modern woman, the Mido Rainflower watch takes inspiration from the floral architecture of the Singapore ArtScience Museum. Reflecting the delicate beauty of the monument, interlaced petals ornament the dial and sides of the case, while sapphires punctuate its harmonious face.

Mido Rainflower (Reference M043.207.11.011.00)

A symbol of purity and infinity, the lotus flower unfurls its beauty across aquatic landscapes. With its white petals open to the Singaporean sky, the ArtScience Museum, too, seems to float above the water. The curves of this architectural marvel inspired by Nature were a source of creativity for Mido, giving rise to the smooth lines of the Rainflower collection devoted to women.

Mido Rainflower (Reference M043.207.11.011.00)

Mido also shares a vocation of sustainability with this exceptional edifice. The latter collects rainwater on its roof to reuse it in a virtuous cycle, while the former crafts watches designed to defy time.

Mido Rainflower (Reference M043.207.11.011.00)

The Rainflower reveals colours of great purity: a grained white dial, illuminated with eight pale pink sapphires on the hour circle. A lotus motif blooms on this clear surface, like an invitation to breathe freely and live life to the full. Polished baton indexes take their positions at the quarter-hours of this delicate floral ballet. The date, at 6 o’clock, is as discreet as it is useful for exploring everyday pleasures. The diamond-cut sparkle of the hands – finely skeletonised for the hours and minutes hands – round off this subtle display.

Mido Rainflower (Reference M043.207.11.011.00)

Housed in a case in polished stainless steel, with flanks polished and sandblasted to a petal-like finish, the Rainflower can be admired through a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides. This gently domed glass adds a touch of sophistication to the watch. A bracelet in polished stainless steel, with links in the “beads of rice” style, carries this harmonious composition onto the wrist.

Mido Rainflower (Reference M043.207.11.011.00)

The Rainflower houses a finely decorated Caliber 80 self-winding movement, which can be admired through the transparent case back. The oscillating weight appears, engraved with a “Rainflower” decor of intersecting lines, like the pillars at the heart of the ArtScience Museum. This reliable automatic movement offers an excellent power reserve of up to 80 hours.

Mido Commander Big Date (M021.626.36.041.00)

Mido’s new Commander Big Date features a shimmering, sunray satin finished deep blue dial. The timepiece highlights several warm touches of rose-gold-coloured PVD: on the hands, on the indexes and on the round case with its polished bezel. Similarly at 6 o’clock, a thin border in this same shade surrounds the large double date aperture that distinguishes this legendary collection.

Mido Commander Big Date (M021.626.36.041.00)

The finesse of a round satin-finished steel case gives the Commander collection an inimitable and instantly recognisable silhouette – just like the lines of the Eiffel Tower that inspired it.

Mido Commander Big Date (M021.626.36.041.00)

The rose-gold-coloured PVD indexes and hands, shining as brightly as a mirror polish, glint against the sunray satin-finished dial. White Super-LumiNova® makes the information easier to read, even in the dark.

Mido Commander Big Date (M021.626.36.041.00)

A large date aperture, characteristic of the Big Date collection, appears at 6 o’clock, presenting polished and sandblasted surfaces. A faceted and domed sapphire crystal, meanwhile, affords excellent visibility of this refined dial.

Mido Commander Big Date (M021.626.36.041.00)

Created by Mido in 2008, the Belluna collection is characterised by its elegant, timeless lines inspired by London’s Royal Albert Hall, a legendary British concert venue. Its famous glass dome has directly inspired some of the finely worked guilloché-style sunray dials in the collection. This magnificent cupola sits atop the cleverly structured levels of this monument, in a Victorian style that abounds in round, generous curves. Mido’s refined Belluna collection references this world of harmonious forms.

With a dial exuding refinement in every last detail, the Belluna Royal Milady presents a precious look that never ceases to appeal. In the light, its silvered centre presents a cascade of reflections thanks to a guilloché-style stamped sunray finish and an iridescent white mother-of-pearl edge.

Mido Belluna Royal Milady Special Edition (M024.307.37.116.00)

Eleven twinkling diamonds punctuate the Belluna Royal Milady, with one placed at every hour except 6 o’clock. Here, the date appears in a round aperture. This truly radiant composition is completed by faceted diamond-cut hour and minute hands and a flat diamond-cut seconds hand. A domed sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective treatment on both sides ensures that nothing detracts from the watch’s stunning display.
