Maurice Lacroix Adds Mayk Azzato as a Member of the Ml Crew

Italian director and photo artist Mayk Azzato has recently joined the Maurice Lacroix crew. In his frequently admired and award-winning photography and films featuring famous names known worldwide, he brings together German precision and Italian creativity.

Mayk Azzato is a photographer and director. Born in Italy, he now lives in Frankfurt and has enjoyed an unprecedented career in the film and photography industry over the past few decades. After being forced to give up his career as a professional athlete due to a serious injury in his youth, he made use of his good network and his even better eye for aesthetics and began portraying actors.

He followed in the footsteps of his father, who was also a gifted photographer. Throughout his career, he has photographed numerous internationally well-known actors, models and footballers. Personalities including rapper Snoop Dogg, Bill Clinton and star violinist David Garett have also been in front of his lens. His photographs offer the perfect balance between German precision and Italian creativity.

Mayk Azzato

Azzato has worked on films like The Arrival with Kevin Costner, as a director and producer, as well as producing his own films featuring big names, such as Toni Garrn. His latest work ‘My Name is Josy’ is an exciting thriller due to premiere on 5th October 2021 at Villa Kennedy in Frankfurt with lots of famous faces in attendance.

The art-house short film tells the story of a young woman from Hollywood. Fittingly, Mayk Azzato managed to get Hollywood actors like Michael Bowen (Django Unchained) and Noah Segan (Star Wars – Episode VIII: The Last Jedi) on board for the film. He cast the German actress Josefine König as the female lead, who is also making a name for herself in Hollywood as a rising star.

‘My Name is Josy’ has already received 30 international awards, including the Los Angeles Film Award Best Thriller 2020 and the New York Movie Award Best Thriller 2019. His previous works have also received numerous awards.

“We’ve known Mayk for a long time and are so pleased that he is now a member of the ML Crew,” says Stéphane Waser, Managing Director of Maurice Lacroix. “Just like us, he is constantly on the lookout for inspiration, reinventing himself again and again – true to our mantra ‘success is a journey, not a destination’,” continues Waser. The artist also sees many parallels between his work and that of Maurice Lacroix.

“The product has to be appealing. Design, aesthetics and the combination of colours are extremely important. Styles are changing ever faster thanks to social media and classic things have to be reinterpreted.” For Mayk, time is a finite resource and having time is a luxury. The times he has spent travelling were some of the most valuable to him. In keeping with his urban lifestyle, Mayk likes travelling to Los Angeles.

“Maurice Lacroix is a modern luxury brand that moves forward and with the times, I like that very much.” Mayk’s favourite watch is the AIKON Automatic Chronograph Sprint. The watch is subtle and still exudes that certain something. He is not a fan of digital watches as, for him, watches are pieces of jewellery. He prefers wearing sneakers and a watch – a reflection of the man’s lifestyle. So, there aren’t just watches in his wardrobe but also 250 pairs of sneakers.

AIKON’s Easy Strap Exchange system allows the owner to easily swap a metal bracelet for a leather strap, or vice-versa, without the need for tools. Now, Maurice Lacroix builds upon this versatility by introducing a new range of straps formed of FKM rubber. This particular grade of rubber delivers superior flexibility to regular rubber, augmenting wearer comfort. In addition, FKM rubber offers greater wear -resistance and the colour is less susceptible to fading.

The new rubber straps feature a central row incorporating a Clous de Paris pattern, replicating the appearance of the dial motif. Positioned adjacent to this central row are two recessed channels which line up with the strap fixings projecting from the case.

Maurice Lacroix Aikon Automatic Chronograph Sprint

Introduced in 2016, AIKON soon became a best-selling series of Swiss luxury watch brand Maurice Lacroix. Known for its strong design codes, this collection new welcomes the Automatic Chronograph Sprint watch.

The AIKON Automatic Chronograph Sprint plays with colours and textures, endowing the model with a very different appearance to its siblings. This new model still features the AIKON’s distinctive six arms straddling the bezel, the M-logo on its strap and the model’s urban styling. Put simply, the new model is fresh and sporty but respects the legend.

Maurice Lacroix Aikon Automatic Chronograph Sprint

For the first time, the AIKON is presented in a 44mm stainless steel case dressed in matte black DLC. In contrast, the six arms spanning the bezel are delivered in a gleaming gunmetal finish. By juxtaposing different colours and textures, the AIKON Automatic Chronograph Sprint exhibits a sumptuous appearance.

Also presented in gunmetal grey, the surface of the dial is sunray-brushed and embossed with a square pattern. The facetted hour and minute hands are lined with Super -LumiNova, aiding legibility in dim light. They converse with the indexes, once again, presented in gunmetal grey. Black counters are positioned at 6 and 12 o’clock and combine opaline and snailed detail.

Maurice Lacroix Aikon Automatic Chronograph Sprint

The dial incorporates a refreshing splash of colour with the small seconds indication at 9 o’clock presented in a light shade of blue. The addition of the snailed detail results in the subdial appearing metallic, readily gleaming with the mere suggestion of light. The central chronograph seconds hand is also presented in blue.

Maurice Lacroix Aikon Automatic Chronograph Sprint

The AIKON Automatic Chronograph Sprint upholds the AIKON’s reputation for ergonomic design, delivering impressive levels of wearer comfort. The watch is presented on a light blue strap made of FKM rubber, a first for the AIKON. This particular grade of rubber delivers superior flexibility to regular rubber, augmenting wearer comfort. In addition, FKM rubber offers greater wear –resistance and the colour is less susceptible to fading. The strap incorporates the company’ s ‘M’ logo and is paired with a sandblasted black DLC pin buckle.

Consistent with traditional Swiss watchmaking, the movement is embellished with circular graining and incorporates vertical Côtes de Genève motif on the bridges and rotor.

Maurice Lacroix Aikon Master Grand Date Only Watch 2021

Maurice Lacroix has been a longstanding supporter of the Only Watch charity auction, donating unique pieces for over a decade.

For the 9th edition of the Only Watch event, Maurice Lacroix has created an eye-catching composition in collaboration with Mahindra Racing. The watch brand, synonymous with delivering high-perceived value, is the Official Timekeeper of Mahindra Racing. Maurice Lacroix’s involvement in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship surpasses merely applying a logo to a car or a set of racing overalls.

Indeed, Maurice Lacroix and Mahindra Racing share their know-how, enhancing the competitiveness of both companies. This is manifest with the Maurice Lacroix AIKON Master Grand Date Only Watch 2021, presented in a 47mm case formed of carbon fibre, formerly used on a Mahindra Racing car, and black DLC stainless steel.

Maurice Lacroix Aikon Master Grand Date Only Watch 2021

This is the first time Maurice Lacroix has presented an example of its highly successful AIKON collection in carbon fibre. The resultant watch is lightweight and looks contemporary.

The embossed off-centre hour and minutes display is presented in sun-brushed orange, framed with a yellow circlet. Maurice Lacroix has chosen these tones to match the Pantone shades inspired by the Only Watch 2021 theme. The hands and indexes are executed in black and lined with yellow Super-LumiNova, while an open-worked small seconds is positioned below. The main area of the dial is the reverse of the mainplate, vertically brushed and suffused with orange PVD.

Maurice Lacroix Aikon Master Grand Date Only Watch 2021

Part of this model’s charm relates to the open-worked area of the dial, revealing the screwed balance, hairspring, pallet lever and escape wheel all in motion. This dynamic characteristic is consistent with the world of motorsport, where each component must collaborate successfully to deliver the desired performance. The curved balance bridge is presented in black DLC and features an open-worked, twin-beam design, affording views of the components below.

A large date display is positioned in the north-westerly region of the dial. Unlike a conventional date display, the ‘Grand Date’ features two discs, one for tens and the other for units. The date values are presented in yellow atop black discs and along with the large format display, confer a highly legible indication.

Maurice Lacroix Aikon Master Grand Date Only Watch 2021

At the heart of the Maurice Lacroix AIKON Master Grand Date Only Watch 2021 is the automatic ML331 calibre, a Manufacture movement endowed with refined finishing. The movement features 43 jewels and the watch has a power-reserve of 50 hours.

The watch is presented with two straps, one in black with matching stitching and a second strap, executed in vibrant orange with contrasting yellow stitching. Each strap is paired with a carbon fibre pin buckle.

Finally, the successful bidder will be invited to attend a 2022 round of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship as a guest of Mahindra Racing, where they can look forward to a full VIP hospitality package.

Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece Gravity, New Version

Maurice Lacroix has launched a new version of the brand’s iconic Masterpiece Gravity watch. Housed in a 43mm stainless steel case, it looks very different from its ancestors despite sharing many design elements. Indeed, this latest model looks more contemporary and is best described as fresh-faced.

An off-centre hour and minutes display is positioned in the top right cor ner of the dial. Unlike earlier examples of the Gravity, this display eschews a chapter ring, conferring a neater, tidier appearance. Each hour is denoted with elongated Roman numerals, save for noon where the brand’s ‘M’ logo sits on high. The hour and minute hands are yellow gold plated, infusing the display with a soupçon of colour and heightening the sense of luxury.

Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece Gravity (New Version) 2021

The silver sun-brushed off-centre hour and minutes display sits above the exposed main plate which is adorned with concentric Vagues du Jura motif. A dark grey small seconds display is positioned at 4 o’clock, sitting above the main plate, but beneath the hour and minutes display, charmingly playing with depths to glorious affect. The remaining bridges are enriched with sandblasted and brushed finishing.

The left side of the dial area reveals the escapement and regulating organ. The oscillating motion of the balance wheel provides a visual spectacle that is difficult to ignore. Beyond its striking appearance, the Gravity was an early adopter of silicium technology. This glass-like material provides a virtually friction-free surface, aiding precision and obviating the need for lubrication. Moreover, silicium components have a low mass, mitigating energy consumption.

An exhibition caseback affords views of the automatic Manufacture Calibre ML 230, a rhodium plated movement featuring Grand colimaçon Côtes de Genève on its reverse. This latest version of the Masterpiece Gravity is supplied on a brown calf leather strap, featuring the ‘M’ logo, paired with a stainless steel butterfly buckle.

Maurice Lacroix Eliros 25th Anniversary Collection

Celebrating the 25th anniversary of its Eliros collection, Swiss watchmaker Maurice Lacroix has launched four new models.

Maurice Lacroix Eliros Date 25th Anniversary

To mark the anniversary of the Eliros, Maurice Lacroix has created the new Eliros Date 25 th. This timepiece is available with a choice of blue or white lacquered dials. Moreover, the wearer can choose from a blue calf-leather strap or a 9-rows steel bracelet.

Maurice Lacroix Eliros Date 25th Anniversary

For the first time the dial design blends long batons with elongated Arabic numerals, each presented in alternating colours, giving the model a modern vibe. The hands are silver-toned or blue, depending on the chosen dial colour, and contribute to the model’s impressive legibility. As its name suggests, this timepiece is endowed with a date indication which is positioned at 3 o’clock.

Maurice Lacroix Eliros Date 25th Anniversary

The 40mm stainless steel case is slender, measuring just 8mm in height, enhancing wearer comfort. A quartz movement is housed within the case, obviating the need for manual winding and delive – ring a high degree of precision.

Maurice Lacroix Eliros Date 25th Anniversary

The new model also features the company’s ‘Easy Strap Exchange’ system, allowing the wearer to change the appearance of their Eliros without the need for tools.

Maurice Lacroix Eliros Date 25th Anniversary

To commemorate this milestone in Maurice Lacroix’s history, the case back is engraved with the inscription ‘25th anniversary edition’.

Maurice Lacroix Eliros Date Adeline Ziliox Special Edition

Keen to mark this milestone in Eliros history, Maurice Lacroix approached Adeline Ziliox, a member of the ML Crew, famed for her Haute Couture creations. Adeline has worked with Maurice Lacroix’s design, conceiving two limited-edition watches.

One of the models created by Adeline sports a black dial. Once again, it employs Arabic numerals to denote the hours. However, the designer chose to depict the odd-numbered hours with a series of pyramid-like structures, often termed Clous de Paris. A circlet, again encompassing the pyramid-like structures, frames the dial. At the centre of the dial, Adeline sought to replicate the appearance of fabric, a medium close to her heart.

Maurice Lacroix Eliros Date Adeline Ziliox Special Edition

Consistent with other Eliros models, both limited editions include the Swiss brand’s ‘Easy Strap Exchange’ system. Where the Eliros x Adeline Ziliox creations differ is with the composition of the straps and packaging. Adeline is a proud vegetarian and cares passionately about animal rights. When she worked with the Maurice Lacroix team, she expressed a desire to use alternatives to leather straps. This resonated with the Maurice Lacroix and its vision for a greener future.

Maurice Lacroix Eliros Date Adeline Ziliox Special Edition

The pink strap is executed in synthetic leather while the black strap is made from Piñatex, a material containing pineapple leaf fibre. Although this latter, highly innovative, textile still contains some man-made ingredients, it represents significant progress and clearly signals Maurice Lacroix’s desire to play its part in creating a sustainable future. Furthermore, the packaging is made mainly from recycled materials, reinforcing the model’s green credentials.

The case back is engraved with the inscription ‘designed by Adeline Ziliox’.

Maurice Lacroix Aikon Venturer 38mm (with white dial)

Swiss luxury watch brand Maurice Lacroix expands its AIKON Venturer series with its 38 mm version in white. The strap, dial and bezel all feature a new shade and details that undeniably make it per fect for women. The design and strong AIKON Venturer is a watch made for urban adventurers.

Fully equipped for all adventurous women in everyday life, the original AIKON design evolves towards a feminine vision. As proof of its ability to adapt and push boundaries, the AIKON Venturer is designed in white. The AIKON Venturer 38 mm is a reinterpretation of the AIKON Venturer 43 mm launched in 2019.

Maurice Lacroix Aikon Venturer 38mm (with white dial) automatic watch

Still crafted entirely from steel, the surfaces of the 38 mm diameter case are satin-finished, while its edges are polished. The bezel’s six arms – a powerful, characteristic AIKON feature – have been given a functional role. They extend beyond the white ceramic bezel so that it can be easily grasped and rotated in one direction.

Maurice Lacroix Aikon Venturer 38mm (with white dial) diving watch for women

The AIKON Venturer 38 mm is water-resistant to 300 meters, a feature which makes it a genuine tool watch. Its screwed case back features a “Vagues du Jura” motif surrounding the engraved “M” logo in the centre, demonstrating the high standard of finishes given to the Venturer.

Maurice Lacroix Aikon Venturer 38mm (with white dial) automatic ladies diving watch

For the first time, the AIKON Venturer features white. The lacquered dial is punctuated by 8 rhodium-finished hour-markers and set with diamonds to further enhance its radiance and purity. These feminine codes can also be found in the white rubber strap.

Thanks to the EasyChange system, the steel attachment of the AIKON collection with 5 satin-finished links can be easily fitted on the AIKON Venturer 38 mm.

Once again Maurice Lacroix’s style vocabulary shows its full range and versatility. Just as the AIKON Automatic 42 mm evolved into the 35 mm versions, the AIKON Venturer follows a similar trajectory, adapting to specific wearing possibilities and feminine taste. But the original spirit of this family of sporty and chic watches, based on a strong aesthetic statement remains intact.

As further evidence of this commitment to AIKON codes, the AIKON Venturer 38 mm is equipped with a self-winding movement that displays hours, minutes, seconds and date.

Maurice Lacroix Aikon Automatic Titanium Chronograph

Maurice Lacroix expands the AIKON Automatic collection with a new titanium version of the AIKON Automatic Chronograph with a grey and blue dial.

Maurice Lacroix Aikon Automatic Titanium Chronograph

The new AIKON Automatic Chronograph features a 44mm diameter case. Titanium is 50% lighter than steel, a fact which is reflected in the weightlessness of this new version. Titanium also has a darker grey colour, with a more intense matte finish, which enhance its masculine feel even more.

Maurice Lacroix Aikon Automatic Titanium Chronograph

Extremely resistant to abrasion, the watch features a satin finish on the case and bracelet. Finally, with a water resistance up to 200 m, this timepiece is also rustproof, the perfect invitation to dive in.

Maurice Lacroix Aikon Automatic Titanium Chronograph

Its dark grey colour undoubtedly inspired the choice of a dial in the same chromatic style. The surface is embossed with the iconic squared pattern, typical of the AIKON Automatic Chronograph. It features the emblematic Gunmetal grey colour, sunray-brushed to provide infinite reflections.

Maurice Lacroix Aikon Automatic Titanium Chronograph

In contrast, the minute and chronograph hour counters, together with the small-seconds hand, are blue, and enhanced by a polished thread and snailing. Also polished, and in keeping with the AIKON design codes, the six bezel’s arms that punctuate the AIKON dial are a direct reference to the Calypso collection, of which the AIKON represents the contemporary heir.

Maurice Lacroix Aikon Venturer Bronze 43mm Limited Edition

Building on the success of last year’s AIKON Venturer Bronze, Swiss luxury watch brand Maurice Lacroix unveils a new version of the model, endowed with anthracite hues coupled with the honey tones of bronze.

Maurice Lacroix Aikon Venturer Bronze 43mm Limited Edition watch with anthracite dial

Maurice Lacroix’s romance with bronze began in 2017 with the release of the AIKON Bronze which was equipped with a quartz movement. The following year, the AIKON Automatic Bronze burst onto the scene. Both versions were limited-editions, now somewhat of a tradition for the company’s bronze-cased models.

The appeal of bronze is that it exhibits a stylish patina. The AIKON Venturer Bronze embraces some of the AIKON’s design language but is also imbued with boldness and robustness, making it the perfect companion for urban adventures.

Maurice Lacroix Aikon Venturer Bronze 43mm Limited Edition watch with leather strap

The anthracite dial is enriched with a sunray-brushed decoration. The plump golden hands and indexes are lined with white Super-LumiNova. Measuring 43mm in diameter, the AIKON Venturer Bronze delivers superb wrist presence. The AIKON’s six-arm bezel design features on this new model, however, the arms serve a functional role aiding manipulation when rotating the bezel.

The bronze bezel features a black ceramic inlay, a scratch-proof material that helps ensure the model retains its factory-fresh appearance. Unlike some bronze watches, the case of the AIKON Venturer Bronze is made from a special alloy that can be given a patina or browned without oxidising.

Maurice Lacroix Aikon Venturer Bronze 43mm Limited Edition watch with rubber strap

To the rear of the watch, the case back is engraved with the brand’s M-logo, surrounded by ‘Vagues du Jura’ motif. The AIKON Venturer Bronze is supplied with two straps, a black rubber strap and a second strap, presented in anthracite leather.

Both straps are embellished with a golden M-logo and each is supplied on a bronze pin buckle. The Maurice Lacroix Easychange system allows the wearer to swiftly switch straps without the need for tools. The watch is fitted with the ML 115 automatic movement.

Availability is limited to just 500 pieces.

Maurice Lacroix Aikon Master Grand Date

Inspired by the urban and dynamic design of Maurice Lacroix’s flagship collection, the AIKON Master Grand Date reveals a new movement and design.

With its open-worked, off-centre automatic calibre featuring a large date and open balance wheel, this voluminous watchmaking creation opens up new perspectives. Embodying the excellence of Maurice Lacroix’s watchmaking expertise, the AIKON Master Grand Date pushes the limits of complications, aesthetic balance and high watchmaking even further.

Maurice Lacroix Aikon Master Grand Date automatic watch, watches and wonders 2021

The AIKON Master Grand Date represents a breakthrough in watchmaking. The 45 mm steel case perfectly fuses the spirit of mechanical watchmaking of the Masterpiece collection and the iconic AIKON style.

The dynamic lines, the case/bracelet integration, the bezel’ s arms and the polished, matte AIKON steel case welcome the ML331 calibre, a newcomer in Maurice Lacroix’ s collection of manufacture movements. It offers a clear view of its balance wheel, visible through a large skeleton opening, and features a large date display with double window.

Maurice Lacroix Aikon Master Grand Date automatic watch dial view

This calibre represents a complete watchmaking development based on Maurice Lacroix’s self-winding manufacture movement. By creating an offset display, a skeleton opening on the balance wheel and adding a large date display, the ML331 takes on a new identity.

Designed with great attention to detail while staying true to its unique watchmaking expertise, the timepiece marks a new level of sophistication, providing a new dimension to AIKON. It is in line with the innovation represented by the AIKON Mercury.

Maurice Lacroix Aikon Master Grand Date watch steel case with cordura strap

The large, rounded, skeletonised balance bridge at 8 o’clock floats between the glass and sapphire crystal case back, revealing the AIKON Master Grand Date’ s regulating system. Its background will be intermittently obscured by the passage of the open-worked, brushed and snailed rotor. Just above it, at 10 o’clock, Maurice Lacroix has placed a unique double-window large date module.

Maurice Lacroix Aikon Master Grand Date stainless steel automatic watch case back view

Not by creating a functional layer, which would have added thickness, but by integrating it into the existing height of the calibre. Finally, the small off-centre seconds hand is also open at 4 o’clock, and it is suspended above a well that reveals the ML331calibre.

Maurice Lacroix Aikon Master Grand Date automatic watch blue dial steel case

By playing with the finishes the AIKON Master Grand Date acquires a new level of contrast and legibility. The off-centred Clous de Paris hours and minutes dial, the grained dial plate and the Cordura® bracelet feature a deep, matte and elegant shade of blue.

The dials’ bezels, the large applied date window and the small seconds are satin-finished, matching the polished chamfers of the 45 mm steel case, as well as the links of the integrated metal bracelet unique to AIKON. Maurice Lacroix has also revisited one of AIKON’s distinctive features by giving the date window the same shape as the bezel’s arms.

Those who have seen the Masterpiece Gravity will surely observe a resemblance. In actual fact, this isn’t the case.

While the Gravity may have had an off-centre dial and a balance wheel visible at 8 o’clock, the AIKON Master Grand Date is actually quite different: its case, sapphire glass, movement, finishes, colours and complication are unique and specific to this new AIKON. This is thanks to the EasyChange system, which allows to easily switch from the AIKON steel bracelet to the Cordura® bracelet, which come with the watch.

Maurice Lacroix Aikon Master Grand Date automatic watch with stainless steel bracelet

By redefining the design, dimensions and functionalities of the ML331 calibre, the AIKON Master Grand Date is pushing the boundaries of the AIKON’s architectural construction. It is governed by a subtle symmetry that brings a clear visual harmony. The width of the watch is divided into three, and each function is anchored on a vertical line of force. The hours and minutes dial is located on the same axis as the small seconds.

The balance wheel and the large date are displayed opposite it. This homogeneous placement reflects that of the six bezel’s arms, whose slot is aligned with the centre of the dial. These complex and harmonious anchors reveal AIKON’s aesthetic balance, which is based on the architectural codes of watchmaking.

Maurice Lacroix Aikon Quartz Chronograph Limited Edition Vikings

Swiss watch brand Maurice Lacroix presents the AIKON Quartz Chronograph, a limited-edition Vikings watch designed in collaboration with ML Crew members and professional beach volleyball players Anders Mol and Christian Sørum.

Maurice Lacroix Aikon Quartz Chronograph Limited Edition Vikings

Two years ago, Anders Mol and Christian Sørum joined the ML Crew. Throughout their careers they have won numerous gold medals and are currently ranked number 1 in their chosen sport. Building on its relationship with Anders and Christian, Maurice Lacroix has created a limited-edition timepiece encompassing the ideas of the ambitious duo. Indeed, both athletes played an active role in the design process.

Maurice Lacroix Aikon Quartz Chronograph Limited Edition Vikings

Anders and Christian wanted a watch they could wear while competing on the court. This meant the watch had to be light, comfortable to wear and precise. Moreover, the watch needed to be shock resistant.

With such an impressive stride, this young athlete has made her debut appearance as one of the greatest talents in the 100 metre hurdles. In 2020, and at the young age of 18, she became the fastest hurdler in the world for her age group, stopping the clock at 13.07 seconds.

Ditaji Kambundji

And one year on, the athlete’s fighting spirit is still flying high: «My ultimate goal is to take part in the Olympic Games», explains Ditaji, who is well on track as she has just claimed both the Swiss 60 metre hurdles title and Under-20 Swiss record with a time of 8.10 seconds.

Ditaji Kambundji

The youngest of four sisters, she was introduced to running by watching them, who are all runners, including the sprinter and multiple medallist, Mujinga Kambundji.

Ditaji has already embraced several of the brand’s watches: «I love the AIKON. I think it’s young, stylish and sporty. But even more so than the watch’s aesthetics, I especially appreciate how affordable the brand is — the prices are very reasonable for luxury watches — and the relationships I’ve been able to forge with the team members. I am not just an ambassador for the brand, they want to join me on my journey, which is something that I really value».

Maurice Lacroix adds Korean-American violinist Danny Koo to the ML Crew

Swiss luxury watch brand Maurice Lacroix has added the talented Korean-American violinist, Danny Koo to the ML Crew, a talented and passionate group of people from all around the world.

The Korean-American violinist has always been disciplined throughout his career, practising musical scores over and over again. He knows the meaning of hard work and realises that it is a prerequisite for success.

As an accomplished violinist, Danny Koo has made a career by understanding the importance of timing. However, he has also grown to view time at a macro level. «Time is routine and routine is a key component to my life. »

Maurice Lacroix adds Korean-American violinist Danny Koo to the ML Crew

However, Danny also appreciates the value of time from a philosophical perspective. The quote ‘Success is a journey, not a destination’, is clearly something that resonates with Danny. «It is so important to realise the beauty of the present. A few years back, I found myself always focussing on the next destination, next piece of music, next concert and I realised I wasn’t truly enjoying the ‘now’.» Often with age and experience comes maturity and Danny has realised that to remain ambitious and motivated, he has to enjoy the present.

Similar to Danny, Maurice Lacroix employs much creativity in order to produce new watches. It is this shared vision that appealed to Stéphane Waser, Managing Director: «We support talented individuals who have a strong desire to realise their ambitions. Danny shares our values. Like Maurice Lacroix, he appreciates the importance of precision timing. For Maurice Lacroix this may mean skilfully regulating a movement while for Danny it means hitting the right notes at the right time.»

Danny has enjoyed the sweet taste of success on several occasions, but he continues to push himself, seeking fresh challenges and new journeys. Recently, he released a new album called ‘Connected’ and he hopes with its release, more people around the globe will discover his music.

Maurice Lacroix welcomes the beach volleyball duo, Joana Heidrich and Anouk Vergé-Dépré to the ML Crew

Swiss luxury watch brand Maurice Lacroix has added the beach volleyball duo, Joana Heidrich and Anouk Vergé-Dépré to the ML Crew, a group of talented individuals from around the world.

In 2020, they won several medals, culminating in Gold at the European Championships in Jurmala. Moreover, they are ranked No 12 in the world, albeit the Swiss pairing continue to strive for even more success.

Joana’s journey began when she watched her compatriots, Patrick Heuscher and Stefan Kobel win bronze at the Olympic Games in Athens. She immediately knew that she wanted to compete in the sport.

Anouk’s romance with beach volleyball followed a different route. Her father was an elite indoor volleyball player who represented the French National Team, while her mother played in Switzerland’s women’s volleyball first league. It was her parents who attracted Anouk to indoor volleyball before she went on to compete in beach volleyball.

Joana Heidrich and Anouk Vergé-Dépré

As beach volleyball duo, Joana cites two particular reasons for choosing Maurice Lacroix, “We like the idea of being associated with a brand that is known for making accessible and quality watches that are perfectly suited for daily wear. They encompass traditional Swiss craftsmanship and incorporate numerous refinements and details. They look incredibly elegant. In addition, we feel an affinity to the brand as it joins ML Crew members on their journey, sharing experiences together, both good and bad.”

Anouk adds, “On the way to your goal, you experience great successes, encounter challenges and overcome obstacles. In the end, it is not merely the goal, but the story that is written along the way.”

The two athletes, who make up the Heidrich/Vergé-Dépré team, see precision as a characteristic common to both beach volleyball and watchmaking. As Joana explains: “To succeed on the field we must employ a winning blend of technique, performance and high precision. Clearly, these are prerequisites essential in the making of luxury watches.”

The two athletes have worked together 300 days per annum since 4 years. They are ambitious and their resolve remains undiminished: they want to win as many medals as possible, competing at major events such as the World Championships, the World Cup and the Olympic Games.

Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece Triple Rétrograde

This year, Swiss luxury watch brand Maurice Lacroix displays its watchmaking know-how of retrograde pieces once more with the release of the first Triple Rétrograde watch in the Masterpiece collection.

After launching the Masterpiece Double Rétrograde in 2003, Maurice Lacroix’s innovation continues this year with the release of a Triple Rétrograde model.

Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece Triple Rétrograde

This new watch is available in two dial versions. The first features a classic and timeless look with a silvered “Clous de Paris” guilloché dial, bead-blasted surface, black transfers and blued hands.

Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece Triple Rétrograde

The second has a bold, modern look and features an anthracite dial with snailed “Côtes de Genève” finishes, powdered silver transfers and 4N gold hands. The dial displaying the hours and minutes also shows the calendar at 6 o’clock, the time in a second time zone at 12 o’clock and the days of the week at 3 o’clock.

Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece Triple Rétrograde

Both timepieces feature a generously proportioned 43 mm stainless steel case to ensure that the display is legible and easy to read. Beneath these functions, the ML291 calibre ensures the smooth operation of the Triple Rétrograde Masterpiece.

Highly efficient, it perfectly combines a SW200 automatic-winding movement with a manufacturing module developed and assembled in Maurice Lacroix’s workshops. This meticulously finished calibre is visible through the sapphire case back.

The two versions of this bold and audacious watch are available with a black alligator -style leather strap for the version with an anthracite dial, and midnight blue for the version with a silvered dial.

Maurice Lacroix Becomes the Official Timekeeper of Mahindra Racing

Swiss luxury watch brand Maurice Lacroix has been appointed as the Official Timekeeper of Mahindra Racing, a founding team competing in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, the all-electric street racing championship.

The first race of the season, a double-header, will take place on the 16th and 17th of January 2021 in Santiago, Chile’s capital city. While both companies hope for podium glory, they also share a passion for mechanics, an eye for design and a concern for the planet. It is this commonality which provides a strong basis for a new, exciting partnership.

Maurice Lacroix Becomes the Official Timekeeper of Mahindra Racing

As part of Mahindra & Mahindra, a USD 19.4 billion federation of companies that enables people to rise through innovative mobility solutions, driving rural prosperity, enhancing urban living, nurturing new businesses and fostering communities, headquartered in India with staff in 100 countries, Mahindra Racing competes in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. Moreover, the team has competed in every season since the series was inaugurated in 2014 and is a multi-race winning outfit.

Both companies are driven by performance and the pursuit of mechanical perfection. Mechanical precision and optimal design are essential for success.

The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship is the closest and most competitive category in motorsport, with unpredictable and exciting electric racing in the centre of the world’s most iconic cities. It features 14 races across 12 cities. The racing takes place on city street circuits, the very urban landscapes that are close to the heart of Maurice Lacroix.

Mahindra Racing was the first Formula E team to be accredited to the FIA’s Sustainability Programme and holds the highest level of accreditation; it was only the second motorsport team in the world to achieve this. This responsible face of business is yet another virtue that resonates with Maurice Lacroix.

As Stéphane Waser, Managing Director of Maurice Lacroix explained, «It is important to us that we work with companies which share our passions and values. As you can see, Maurice Lacroix and Mahindra Racing are closely aligned. We both share a passion for success and a concern for the planet. We are both dynamic companies with much in-house expertise. We also choose to spend much time in the cities around the globe, engaging with our customers and responding to their desires. I look forward to both companies working together, embarking on this exciting adventure and sharing much success.”

Dilbagh Gill, Team Principal & CEO of Mahindra Racing added, “We are thrilled to announce this new partnership with Maurice Lacroix, a brand that is complementary to our team in terms of values and vision. Innovation, sustainability and passion in what we do is what underpins our drive at Mahindra Racing and we look forward to a partner that shares that ethos. We have some very exciting innovations to present to the world in 2021, so watch this space!”

Maurice Lacroix Pontos 20th Anniversary Collection: Pontos Chronograph Monopusher, Pontos Chronograph and Pontos Day-Date

Maurice Lacroix celebrates the 20th anniversary of its popular Pontos collection by unveiling new timepieces including a vintage-looking PONTOS Chronograph Monopusher limited edition, followed by two new versions of automatic chronograph and of the Day-Date model. These new pieces, all imbued with an elegant contemporary spirit, bear the hallmark of Maurice Lacroix design. The characteristically PONTOS details, finishes, contrasts and taut lines celebrate a vision of watchmaking where understated refinement reigns supreme.

The PONTOS collection is a meeting point of contemporary styling and the codes of traditional watchmaking. PONTOS watches offer a distinctive style that is dressy without being formal, refined without relying on design gimmicks. The highly detailed round case features a shoulder either side of the crown, which serves to protect it and to create slight asymmetry. This protection takes the form of pushers in the PONTOS Chronograph models.

The smooth bezel is slightly angled, polished on the surface and satin-finished on the thin edge. Finally, the crown itself is shaped and fnished with spiral notches, one last touch that makes PONTOS thoroughly contemporary, which remains the signature of Maurice Lacroix design.

The double lugs have a pronounced hooked shape with a satin-finished first level and a polished and sunken outer second level. This alternating set of matte and shiny finishes highlights the profile of a case shared by the three models of the PONTOS collection.

The first is the PONTOS Chronograph Monopusher, launched as a limited edition to celebrate the collection’s 20th anniversary. The second is a new version of the steel automatic chronograph, the PONTOS Chronograph. The third is a new extension of the Day-Date model, available as an exceptional bronze version with a green dial, or in steel with a silvered dial.

PONTOS Chronograph Monopusher (PONTOS 20th Anniversary Collection)

The PONTOS Chronograph Monopusher is a limited edition of 500 pieces.

The PONTOS Chronograph Monopusher features a 41mm diameter case in steel. Maurice Lacroix has coated it using PVD technology to make it totally black and durable, ensuring resistance to abrasion and scratches, but above all uncompromising aesthetics.

Maurice Lacroix Pontos 20th Anniversary Collection Pontos Chronograph monopusher limited edition

A gradient stretches across the dial, with black at the edges that gradually grows lighter towards the centre, which is a mid-grey. Halfway across, the telemeter and tachymeter come into view – one red and the other blue – and these two scales cross paths with the chronograph’s minute counter and the small seconds, creating a complex design.

Maurice Lacroix Pontos 20th Anniversary Collection Pontos Chronograph monopusher limited edition

To power this timepiece, the ML166 automatic mono-pusher chronograph caliber is used. Its single pusher creates asymmetry and breaks with common expectations of chronographs. This self winding mechanical movement features circular-graining and Côtes de Genève finishes. Its sunray-brushed oscillating weight is decorated with Côtes de Genève, visible through a transparent sapphire case back.

PONTOS Chronograph (PONTOS 20th Anniversary Collection)

The anniversary collection also offers two new versions of the PONTOS Chronograph. Inside the PONTOS steel case with a larger diameter of 43 mm, the ML112 automatic chronograph caliber gives PONTOS a whole new dimension. The dial is available as a lacquered white or sunray-brushed grey version, where the hour markers take the form of applied Arabic numerals for the first time.

Maurice Lacroix Pontos 20th Anniversary Collection Pontos Chronograph

The PONTOS Chronograph pieces draw on an unusual colour balance that is actually a common Maurice Lacroix stylistic feature. The white dial therefore contrasts with a bright blue tint, while yellow gold appliqués stand out against the grey dial.

Maurice Lacroix Pontos 20th Anniversary Collection Pontos Chronograph

These shades, textures and the soft, rounded font of the Arabic numerals create a powerful design dynamic and exude a contemporary, sport-chic style that lies at the heart of the PONTOS Chronograph identity.

Maurice Lacroix Pontos 20th Anniversary Collection Pontos Chronograph

These same shades are adopted by the partially skeletonised hands and the counters at 6 and 12 o’clock, which are used to read the chronograph indications. The PONTOS Chronograph pieces are available on a blue calfskin strap with Maurice Lacroix’s M logo, complemented by a three-link steel bracelet.

Maurice Lacroix Pontos 20th Anniversary Collection Pontos Chronograph

This bracelet adopts the same alternating satin-finished and polished finishes of the case that accentuate its edges. The PONTOS Chronograph anniversary watch case backs bear an engraving marking the 20th anniversary of the collection.

Maurice Lacroix Pontos 20th Anniversary Collection Pontos Chronograph

PONTOS Day-Date (PONTOS 20th Anniversary Collection)

The PONTOS Day-Date – the first model from the PONTOS range to have been redesigned in 2017 – is joined by two new versions. Yet the design details of this 41 mm model remain unchanged, with triangular hour-markers, a sunken minute circle, cut-outs in the dial at 6 o’clock and 12 o’clock that highlight the date and the day respectively, and slightly trapezoidal hands with a rigorous design.

Maurice Lacroix Pontos 20th Anniversary Collection Pontos Day-Date

The effect produced by these geometric elements and their clever positioning on flatteringly finished dials is the result of pertinent modernity. It makes the PONTOS Day-Date pieces truly timeless and capable of standing the test of time.

Maurice Lacroix has built on these foundations with an unlimited edition that presents a bronze case and a green dial.

Maurice Lacroix Pontos 20th Anniversary Collection Pontos Day-Date bronze version

The tones of the rose gold PVD-treated hands and the bronze case are reflected in the rhodium-plated hour-markers, their facets changing colour with each movement. This mirror effect is further amplified by the bottle green shade of the dial, which bestows a vintage yet contemporary look on the model.

Maurice Lacroix Pontos 20th Anniversary Collection Pontos Day-Date bronze version

Alongside this, the PONTOS Day-Date welcomes an incredibly understated silvered sunray-brushed dial, warmed up by an appliqué logo, hands and hour-markers that are rose-gold in colour. These PONTOS Day-Date watches are available with a three-link steel bracelet or a matte black calfskin strap.

Maurice Lacroix Aikon Chronograph Skeleton

Maurice Lacroix presents AIKON Chronograph Skeleton, a contemporary and sculptural horology creation that combines the powerful, angular and masculine lines of the AIKON Automatic with one of most iconic movements from the brand.

The skeletonisation of this automatic chronograph enhances the structure of its hands, bezel and push-pieces. By playing on sharp lines, alternating between circles and hexagons, Maurice Lacroix has created a steel piece with a strong watchmaking impact.

Maurice Lacroix Aikon Chronograph Skeleton

The AIKON Chronograph Skeleton features a strong 44 mm diameter case with an elegantly designed thickness. The reduced bezel allows you to admire the movement in its entirety. This uniquely designed bezel also features the six characteristic AIKON arms placed directly on the crystal. This masculine, ultra-sporty and technical chronograph is equipped with a large, serrated and black PVD finished crown and two prominent chronograph push-pieces with a hexagonal base.

The higher the components are on the AIKON Chronograph Skeleton, the clearer they become. The arms and bezel are produced in satin-finished steel. The front of the dial, featuring four hour-markers and counters, is also satin-finished and darker. The grooves of these counters are micro-bead blasted and even darker. The lower levels are occupied by the movement, treated with DLC black gold and highlighted by the lowest layer, which becomes light grey again to create a contrast.

Maurice Lacroix Aikon Chronograph Skeleton

The composition of the bezel, flange and dial create a vortex effect: all the markings are aligned towards the centre of the watch and draw the eyes to it. The black timer engraved on the bezel is extended by the one shown on the sapphire dial, continued by the hour-markers and finalized with the chronograph markings. A blue seconds hand and AIKON rhodium-plated hands embellished with SLN emerge from the centre.

This playful contrast is completed with a black calfskin strap featuring hand-sewn white thread. It is marked with an applied M logo, the signature of the brand. This strap features the Easychange system which allows it to be effortlessly changed in seconds.

Maurice Lacroix Aikon Chronograph Skeleton

The AIKON Chronograph Skeleton is driven by the ML206 calibre, an automatic chronograph with two counters and a 48-hour power reserve. This calibre also equipped the Masterpiece Chronograph Skeleton introduced in 2016.

AIKON is the descendant of the Maurice Lacroix Calypso. This steel watch was one of the brand’s iconic models in the 1990s and bore the same design codes that live on in the AIKON. The integrated and water-resistant case, the six-arm bezel surrounding a flat sapphire crystal and the strap marked with an applied M logo made this model with its exceptional presence the brand’s most iconic product. In 2016, Maurice Lacroix produced a contemporary reinterpretation of this iconic piece with the quartz AIKON. In 2018, an entire collection of AIKON Automatic pieces continued the saga and in 2019, the AIKON Mercury introduced Masterpiece-style complications to the collection.

These counters include a 30-minute counter at 9 o’clock, a 1/10 second counter at 12 o’clock and a small seconds display located at 6 o’clock. The latter counter also includes a date indication.

The hour and minute hands are rhodium plated and incorporate white SLN. Light blue hues enrich the central chronograph seconds hand, chronograph registers and the minute track, imbuing the dial with tasteful bursts of colour.

Consistent with other AIKON models, the bezel features the brand’s iconic six-arm design. The chronograph pushers are positioned close to the crown and crown protector, delivering a neat design, sporty aesthetic and masculine appearance.

At the heart of this limited-edition model is a quartz movement, eliminating the need for regular winding. After all, nothing should distract the wearer from achieving their goal. In addition, this movement delivers chronometric precision, an essential requirement for those who lead from the front.

Maurice Lacroix new Venturer 43 mm models

Maurice Lacroix expands their AIKON Venturer collection with two new Venturer 43 mm models. The bronze and brown ceramic version is bold and modern. The gold and steel model with the anchor blue dial is sporty yet chic.

Crafted entirely from steel or bronze, the case surfaces of these timepieces are satin-finished, while its edges are polished. The bezel’s six arms – a powerful, characteristic AIKON feature – have been given a functional role. They extend beyond the ceramic bezel so that it can be easily grasped and rotated in one direction.

The arms are engraved with 10-minute intervals, a feature which makes the AIKON Venturer a genuine tool watch. Its screwed case back features a “Vagues du Jura” motif surrounding the engraved “M” logo in the centre, demonstrating the high standard of finishes given to the Venturer.

Maurice Lacroix new Venturer 43 mm models

For the first time, the AIKON Venturer features bronze. The 43 mm case is made from a special alloy that can be given a patina or browned without oxidizing.

Maurice Lacroix AIKON VENTURER, Bronze version with brown ceramic rotating bezel

Maurice Lacroix has finished this tool watch with a deep green sunray-brushed dial. This is also the colour given to the rubber strap with grooves that add structure to the piece. Thanks to the Easychange system, it can be swapped quickly for a vintage brown calfskin leather version with ecru topstitching.

Maurice Lacroix AIKON VENTURER, Bronze version with brown ceramic rotating bezel

The ceramic bezel becomes a shade of brown, while the six hour-marker arms stay true to the Venturer’s style and are brown like the case. This watch fitted with the ML 115 automatic movement is available in a limited edition of 500 pieces.

Maurice Lacroix AIKON VENTURER, Bronze version with brown ceramic rotating bezel

There’s another first for the AIKON Venturer 43 mm which features steel and gold, with steel components gilded with 2N yellow gold. The small bracelet links, crown and bezel’s arms, as well as its bright and delicate touches give new life to what was previously just a functional model.

Maurice Lacroix AIKON VENTURER, Stainless steel bicolor version with ceramic rotating bezel

But this version’s function is completely different: a deep blue sunray-brushed dial with a ceramic bezel in the same shade that gives it an elegant, sporty-chic look that reflects the real-life uses of an entirely metallic watch.

The choice of 2N yellow gold and deep blue gives a premium vintage 80’s look to the ensemble, enriching Maurice Lacroix’s style vocabulary once more. The Easychange quick strap change system allows its user to change styles in a fraction of a second. Also fitted with the ML 115 automatic movement, this model is part of the brand’s current collection.

The Aikon Line

The AIKON Venturer is descended from the Maurice Lacroix Calypso, which included a diver’s version at the time. This steel watch was one of the brand’s iconic models in the 1990s and bore the same design codes that live on in the AIKON Venturer.

In 2018, an entire collection of AIKON Automatic pieces continued the saga and was topped off in 2019 with a new branch of the AIKON generation. The AIKON Quartz watches and the AIKON Automatic watches share a watchmaking culture of perceived high quality and affordable prices.

Maurice Lacroix Fiaba Moonphase

The Fiaba Moonphase timepiece from Maurice Lacroix features a moonphase indication, diamond set dial and a myriad of aesthetic delights. Moreover, the model is offered in three variants, including a bi-colour option.

The moon is regarded as a symbol of femininity. It is a metaphor for life, a combination of darkness and light and it is synonymous with time. In the world of horology, watchmakers have always been drawn to the indication of the moonphase, depicting its splendour in poetic form. As its name implies, the Fiaba Moonphase features a moonphase indication, in a crescent-shaped form, positioned above 6 o’clock.

Maurice Lacroix offers this watch in three variants: a blue sunray dial, a white mother of pearl dial or a white mother of pearl dial paired with bi-coloured detail. Each version of the watch incorporates a circle of 46 diamonds which frame the central area of the dial. The leaf-shaped hour and minute hands gracefully circumscribe the dial, imparting meaning with clear tone.

Each hour is gracefully denoted with a combination of ‘Goutte d’eau’ applied indexes and, for the first time on a Fiaba model, Arabic numerals. The Maurice Lacroix ‘M’ logo is positioned at noon, shining resplendently and reaffirming this model’s luxury status. A central sweep seconds hand and date display complete the inventory of functions.

The watch features a highly convenient quartz movement, housed within a 32mm stainless steel case. The bezel stands back from the case band, creating a becoming stepped effect. The crown is embellished with a blue cabochon and a date indication is positioned at 3 o’clock. The Fiaba Moonphase is presented on a highly practical 3-rows stainless steel bracelet, incorporating a folding buckle.

Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece Embrace

The Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece Embrace is a fusion of artistic expression and technical creativity, courtesy of its retrograde calendar and unusual small seconds display. Two hearts rotate, a metaphor for the highs and the lows besetting all relationships, however, they always remain together, locked in a perpetual embrace. This timepiece combines an alluring aesthetic with incredible watchmaking expertise.

The model is available in two versions, one with a blue aventurine dial and a second with a white mother-of-pearl dial embellished with radiating lines emanating from the small seconds indication.

The generously proportioned 40mm stainless steel case confers a strong wrist presence and is a worthy accompaniment to any haute couture ensemble. Housed within the sumptuous case is a Manufacture movement, the Calibre ML258. This automatic movement features high-end finishing such as rhodium plated bridges embellished with Colimaçon, a rhodium plated open-worked rotor adorned with vertical Côtes de Genève motif and a combination of sandblasted and Colimaçon decoration.

Open-worked, leaf-shaped hour and minute hands articulate the time with clear tone and notable style. In the lower portion of the dial is an arrow-like hand, a reference to Cupid. It points to the retrograde date indication, tastefully expressed with a series of circlets. When in love, the heart can miss a beat and the head can be overwhelmed. This is captured with the poetic statement on the dial, ‘je t’aime un peu, beaucoup, à la folie!’

Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece Embrace

However, the pièce de résistance of the Masterpiece Embrace is the model’s small seconds display, a reinterpretation of Maurice Lacroix’s patented Square Wheel indication. Every tooth has a unique profile, made to infinitesimal tolerances, engaging with its adjacent counterpart with seamless precision.

A discreet marking indicates the prevailing second without marring the clean dial design. Both versions of the Masterpiece Embrace feature their own interpretation of the heart’s appearance.

The Masterpiece Embrace is presented on a coordinating calf leather strap, paired with a stainless steel folding clasp.

Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece Moonphase Retrograde

Twenty years after the launch of the first Maurice Lacroix model featuring a retrograde display, the Jura-based brand continues to embrace contemporary, elegant watchmaking imbued with traditional know-how. The intricately designed Moonphase Retrograde provides a wonderful introduction to the world of complications, a characteristic shared with other members of the Masterpiece collection.

Inside its steel case, a new combination of complications are united together: a retrograde day , a retrograde date and a moon phase indication. For the first time, these three indications have been combined with a snailed blue or silver-grey Clou de Paris dial. The Moonphase Retrograde encompasses the precision, innovation and high perceived value for which Maurice Lacroix is known. This model perpetuates the brand’s reputation for making watches which are fairly priced.

This new addition to the Masterpiece collection marks the return of one of Maurice Lacroix’s specialities. Indeed, retrograde displays have been part of the company’s DNA since 1999. At this time, the Masterpiece collection was already part of the company’s catalogue. The rationale for the collection was to showcase the brand’s know-how. It called upon traditional skills such as skeletonization and knowledge of complications that were uncommon at the time. Maurice Lacroix used retrograde displays to reinforce its brand personality.

From the outset, the brand developed specific display modules for functions. It demonstrated visionary thinking founded on technical innovation without ever losing sight of the lifestyles of its clients. This gave rise to the Maurice Lacroix Calendrier Rétrograde at the turn of the 21st century.

Twenty years later, the Masterpiece Moonphase Retrograde continues the brand’s tradition of using non-circular displays. The day, at 2 o’clock, and the date, at 10 o’clock, are both indicated by hands which arc through 150°. At the end of their journey, they instantly and simultaneously return to their point of origin, using a system of springs and cams, to start the following week and month. The small seconds at 6 o’clock also serves as a backdrop for the moon phase display.

Beneath these functions, the ML 190 calibre ensures the smooth operation of the Moonphase Retrograde. The exclusive automatic movement is large and tried-and-tested, delivering proven reliability. Maurice Lacroix has incorporated a complication module, designed in-house, that encompasses a retrograde day, a retrograde date and a moon phase. The calibre also incorporates impressive finishing, consistent with Maurice Lacroix’s quality standards and matching the high standards of the dial and case.

This latest Masterpiece reinterprets traditional aesthetics, embracing a contemporary perspective and encompassing Maurice Lacroix’s unique design language. The 43mm case is formed of polished and chamfered surfaces and features recessed sections to produce a slimmer profile. It incorporates the collection’s distinctive knurled crown. The dial reintroduces the small Roman numerals used by Maurice Lacroix in the 1990s, which in this instance sit atop a circular satin-brushed hour track.

The day and date sectors feature different patterns, depending on the dial colour selected. The silver-grey dial features a Clou de Paris finish, which is repeated on the small seconds display. The remaining surfaces are bead-blasted, creating a matt effect beneath the blued hands.

The blue dial version is endowed with snailed retrograde sectors, paired with Côtes de Genève motif on the remaining areas of the dial. Rhodium-finished indexes, markings and hands punctuate the rest of the dial. The purity, attention to detail and multiple patterns and textures bestow the Masterpiece Moonphase Retrograde with a sumptuous and noble appearance.

Maurice Lacroix Aikon Mercury X Only Watch 2019

For its participation in the new edition of Only Watch, Maurice Lacroix has revisited the AIKON Mercury. This unique Only Watch model is now available for the first time in titanium case. It will be put up for auction by Christie’s on 9 November at the Hotel des Bergues in Geneva in aid of the Association Monégasque contre les Myopathies.

At first glance, the AIKON Mercury appears to be a normal watch, with central hours and minutes and small seconds at the six o’clock position. With the slightest tilt, however, the hour and minute hands spin freely, abandoning their chronometric duties. Hold the AIKON Mercury upright, and the hands fall back and give correct time.

The patented mechanism behind this innovative display took 3 years to develop and perfect in the manufacture facilities of Maurice Lacroix in Saignelégier.

The AIKON Mercury combines an unprecedented “free hand” system that works with natural forces of gravity to read and display time from a double snail-cam mechanism hidden beneath the dial. One snail cam is associated with the display of hours, making one complete rotation every 12 hours, while the other is associated with the display of minutes and rotates once every 60 minutes.

When the wearer turns his wrist to look at the watch, with its movement perpendicular to the ground, gravity acts on two weighted levers, pulling them into contact with the snail cams. Dictated by the continuous rotating snail cams, the levers then drive the hour and minute hands to indicate the correct time. When the wearer leaves the upright position, hands follow a mercurial pattern before falling to gravity. The mechanism still computes in the background, ready to give back the correct time when the mechanism is triggered by the position of the wrist.

The launch of the AIKON collection in 2016 was a return to the iconic design codes of Maurice Lacroix in the 1990s, updated for the new millennium. The sophisticated lines of the AIKON incorporated a robust profile with strong angles and sharp interplay between matt and polished surfaces.

While the emphasis in existing AIKON automatic models has been on subtle elegance, with their textured guilloche dials, the AIKON Mercury takes a cue from the powerful Masterpiece series and features a transparent sapphire dial showcasing a darkened skeletonised module. The skeleton design that has been a signature feature of Maurice Lacroix since the 1990s has now been updated, with a combination of circular brushing and hollowed, sandblasted bridges towards the centre of the dial giving a strong, contemporary look.

Maurice Lacroix is known for thoughtful, attentive design that focuses on detail, and the AIKON Mercury is no different. The distinctive AIKON bezel and the leather strap with integrated M logo are hallmarks of the collection, but the AIKON Mercury, as expected, goes one step further.

The counterweights offer additional visual interest whenever the dauphine hands cross and the M logo counterweight of the hour hand is briefly encircled by the counterweight of the minute hand. This effect, as straightforward as it appears to be, required the Maurice Lacroix development team to undertake numerous stages of calculation, computer simulations and prototyping to ensure that the hands are not only well poised on the dial of the watch, but that their centre of gravity is perfectly situated in order to allow the hands to move easily when the watch is turned away from the upright position.

For this unique piece, the hours and minutes are indicated by hands covered in white Super-LumiNova as well as a blue coating. The rack, the cams and the topstitching on the bracelet all sport this same shade of blue in honour of the colour chosen for this edition of Only Watch 2019.

The name of the AIKON Mercury makes reference to the quicksilver fluidity of time, channelling a dynamic energy that is further reflected with the unpredictable hands. The versatility of the AIKON Mercury lies in its easy transition from urban chic to rugged elegance, in the organic curves of its skeleton design against the classic geometry of its hands and hour markers, in the high-concept time display housed in a contemporary steel case, offered with both black alligator leather strap and 5 rows metal bracelet.

Maurice Lacroix Announces Their Partnership with Fashion Designer Adeline Ziliox

Swiss watch brand Maurice Lacroix chose Paris Fashion Week to confirm its partnership with instinctive fashion designer Adeline Ziliox.

Precision craftsmanship, exceptional patience, avant-garde daring in all pieces, and the desire to equip the modern woman with the tools she needs for her everyday life are some of the features closely connecting the worlds of the French designer and Maurice Lacroix.

This vision of women can naturally be found in the very first collection of AIKON Automatic
35 mm watches to be entirely designed for modern women: sophisticated and assertive watches in four different aesthetics to suit everyone’s tastes. One piece certainly didn’t go unnoticed on the wrists of the designer’s models at her exclusive couture show for Maurice Lacroix at the Maison de l’Alsace on 5th July.

The French stylist’s career started off with a bang as soon as she finished her studies, where she was top of her class and the favourite of iconic brand Martin Margiela. Ever since, season after season, she has reworked the female figure through her couture and luxury ready-to-wear collections.

Her signature fashion cloths are known for their slightest detail, structured cuts, and blends of unexpected materials. Her latest collection presented alongside Maurice Lacroix also conveys an eco-friendly concept of fashion. Through her creations, the now friend of the brand Adeline Ziliox conveys an image of high-end fashion, unique pieces or limited editions designed in her French workshops. The Adeline Ziliox brand has already won over many major international celebrities and media figures. The watch manufacture shares its vision of the modern, conquering urban woman with the stylist and her fashion house, and is already looking forward to future fruitful collaborations.
