Maîtres du Temps

Imagine three of the world’s greatest watchmakers collaborating to develop just one timepiece. In 2008 Mr. Christophe Claret, Mr. Roger Dubuis, and Mr. Peter Speake-Marin together wrote the first chapter of a brand new story called Maîtres du Temps. And the watch, appropriately named Chapter One, was simply astounding. Picture the world’s most exclusive atelier with watchmaking’s finest artisans working together to concoct alchemy unprecedented in the history of horology.

Maîtres du Temps is a highly exclusive watch brand in which master watchmakers blend their vast and diverse experience in a collaborative effort to create exclusive and unparalleled masterpieces.

The driving force behind Maîtres du Temps is Mr. Steven Holtzman, a man with nearly three decades of experience in the watch industry. Mr. Holtzman is the catalyst bringing master watchmakers together, and Maîtres du Temps provides a canvas for their art. Mr. Holtzman realizes his vision by extracting and distilling the very best each master watchmaker has to offer.

Each chapter in the Maîtres du Temps story is a symbiosis of experience, influence, art, craft, and technique, all harmoniously encapsulated in a single watch. The philosophy of Maîtres du Temps is symbolized by a tree, with each branch representing a fresh opportunity to work with new masters, another collaboration, a future project. And as the branches intertwine and the tree bears fruit, so a new timepiece is brought to life.

Chapter One is imbued with the intoxicating fusion of Mr. Claret’s undisputed mastery of high-end complications, Mr. Dubuis’ rich lifetime of experience in haute horlogerie, and Mr. Speake-Marin’s unique ability to bridge the very best of both traditional and modern watchmaking.

The first piece from Maîtres du Temps is a world-first combination of complications with tourbillon, mono-pusher chronograph, retrograde date, retrograde GMT, and two idiosyncratic rolling bars at 6 o’clock and 12 o’clock, indicating the day of the week and phase of the moon, respectively. Steven Holtzman

Maîtres du Temps is not so much a new watch company as it is an entirely new horological concept. Founded by Mr. Steven Holtzman, the idea behind Maîtres du Temps is to bring together groups of the most talented master watchmakers to develop exclusive timepieces. Mr. Steven Holtzman began his career in horology over twenty-five years ago with the sale and distribution of watches in the U.S. In 1997, he created Helvetia Time Corporation (HTC) to distribute high-quality Swiss watch brands—including Roger Dubuis—throughout North and Central America.

HTC acquired the distinction of becoming one of the few high-end, independent watch distributors in North America. In 2004, Mr. Holtzman was instrumental in initiating the distribution of Jean Dunand in the Americas and Macau. In 2008, Mr. Holtzman realized his most ambitious project to date: his own brand, Maîtres du Temps. With Maîtres du Temps, Mr. Holtzman acts as a catalyst for today’s greatest master watchmakers to collaborate on the most innovative projects imaginable.

What Mr. Holtzman had in mind was developing teams of outstanding watchmakers who would work together to develop and craft incredible timepieces. Each master watchmaker brings his own ideas, his own style, and his own approach, and by providing the opportunity for them to work together, Maîtres du Temps harnesses and maximizes their incredible talent.

Christophe Claret

Vision and realization occasionally go hand in hand; more often than not, however, the journey is fraught with insurmountable difficulties.

Ensuring that what is seen in the mind’s eye becomes something that can be worn on the wrist is the business of Mr. Christophe Claret. His fascination with wristwatches began at an early age, and when only sixteen, he enrolled at the prestigious Geneva School of Watchmaking. An extensive background in restoration followed, providing Mr. Claret with exposure to the finest in traditional horological craftsmanship.

Beyond his training, Mr. Claret has the essential skills to realize designs that not only have never been conceived, but that previously would have been impossible to execute. Beginning in 1987, when he obtained his first contract for minute-repeater movements, Mr. Claret has steadily built what is possibly the world’s most sophisticated manufactory of complicated movements.

No challenge seems beyond him, from tourbillons of every conceivable variety to unusual automatic winding mechanisms via striking watches whose sophistication is without rival. His exceptional movements are as remarkable for their precision and reliability as they are for their complexity.

Mr. Claret’s manufactory at Le Soleil d’Or in Le Locle boasts a vast array of equipment that runs the gamut from a full complement of the most noble of traditional watchmaking tools to the latest computer-guided laser cutters. He has become both the first choice and the last resort for horological visionaries, whose dreams can be made real only by the deftest of magicians. In the creation of Chapter One by Maîtres du Temps, Mr. Claret played the role of both creator and developer.

Mr. Roger Dubuis

Mr. Roger Dubuis is a watchmaker in whom tradition runs deep. He was drawn at an early age to the magical world of watches and clocks when, as a schoolboy, he rang the noon bells and wound the weights in the clock tower of his local church.

By the age of twelve, his fascination with the beauty and ingenuity of watchmaking made him a fixture at a local watchmaker’s atelier. Mr. Dubuis then went on to the prestigious Geneva School of Watchmaking. From past masters there, he acquired the incredible range of skills necessary to create and repair the most complex of timepieces.

Equipped with rare talent, passion, and a superb horological education, Mr. Dubuis enjoyed a distinguished career that included fourteen years in the high complications department of Patek Philippe before teaming up to construct the world’s first perpetual calendar bi-retrograde movement.

At Patek Philippe, his own watchmaking atelier, and with the brand that bears his name, Mr. Dubuis continued to hone his vision of seamlessly bound complexity and artistry—a vision indispensable to the creation of Maîtres du Temps’ Chapter One.

Through Maîtres du Temps, Mr. Dubuis has shared his precious knowledge in collaboration with other great masters to create unique complications, entirely modern in inspiration yet expressing the most traditional values in craftsmanship. Mr. Dubuis embodies the rich depth of a lifetime’s experience in watchmaking, and Maîtres du Temps showcases the full extent of his talent.

Peter Speake-Marin

For English watchmaker Mr. Peter Speake-Marin, the preferred route has always been the road less traveled. From the outset, his iconoclastic personality has expressed itself not only in his chosen profession and passion for horology, but also in the way he has pursued that path. Mr. Speake-Marin followed his talent to study horology in the mid-1980s.

Mr. Speake-Marin’s talents were rapidly recognized, and he was soon given an opportunity by a prominent London antique watch dealer to establish his watch repair and restoration department. This was an invaluable experience that afforded Mr. Speake-Marin exposure to many different brands of vintage complications of the highest calibre.

To satisfy his desire for adventure and to broaden his experience, he left England for Switzerland, where he had studied in earlier years. His first stop was the workshop of renowned complications specialists Renaud & Papi.

He then dedicated himself to mastering the methods through which today’s increasingly audacious new horological complications are conceived. At the same time, he began work on his own masterpiece—a unique tourbillon pocket watch designed, constructed, and assembled entirely by hand.

In order for horological artistry to flourish, Mr. Speake-Marin believes watchmakers must be aware of the past and conscious of the wealth of new possibilities offered by the future. For Mr. Speake-Marin, Chapter One by Maîtres du Temps is the perfect medium through which to express his experience of the historical tradition of fine watchmaking and to convey his belief in its future.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter Three Midnight Blue

For this new execution of the Chapter Three, special attention was given to the color of the dial. The deep black color emphasizes the classical esthetic of the watch and the beauty of the guilloche finish. This new dial complements the choice of the existing silver and anthracite versions.

The ingenious mechanism of the opening of the dial becomes the DNA of the Chapter Three. A pusher on the center of the crown allows to lower two concealed dial panels of the dial in order to reveal two additional and hidden time indications: a second time zone indication (also known as GMT) and a Day/Night indicator, both displayed on cylinders, the signature feature of Maîtres du Temps – Atelier d’Horlogerie.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter Three Midnight Blue

Starting from scratch in designing the movement has allowed integrating the cylinders within the caliber rather than just adding a module needing much more space. The high precision conical gears improve the distribution of power and the reliability of the different mechanisms.

The tailor made architecture of the movement also includes the opening and closing mechanism of the revealing dial panels. Incorporating this mechanism into the movement rather than the case allows for the complete optimization of reliability without increasing its.

But a rich display associated with a distinguished elegance is not sufficient: an outstanding watch must also be a precise timepiece. For this purpose the movement is regulated by a Straumann escapement which is equipped with a low mass and energy efficient escape lever and a balance spring with Breguet overcoil improving the isochronism.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter Three Midnight Blue watch dial

The Chapter Three is a timepiece displaying hours, minutes, seconds, date and moon phase all set on a sumptuous guilloche dial in an elegant round 18K gold case.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter Three Midnight Blue

When the concealed panels are positioned flush on the dial, the hour and minute hands are completed by a small second counter at 8hoursharmoniously counterpoised by a date counter at 2hours and at 4hours by a moon phase indicator representing the shadow of the Earth passing over a photo realistic moon. The small counters of the second and date indicators are subtly enhanced by a guilloche “Clous de Paris” and are identified by small and neat name plates.

The opening and closing mechanism is a complication in itself. When the dial is closed a light pressure on the pusher in the crown lowers the panels below the level of the dial, and then releasing the pusher the same disappears below the dial unveiling the cylinders of the second time zone and the Day/Night indicator. A new pressure of the pusher creates an inverted rotation of the panels and resets them in the initial position before making them rise flush with the dial when releasing the pusher.

The hands in 18K solid gold and large Roman Indices are placed on the magnificent dial which is finely guilloche with a sunray design.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter Three Midnight Blue

The high precision cylinders are the esthetical and technical signature of all timepieces of Maîtres du Temps – Atelier d’Horlogerie. They have to be very resistant and extremely light in weight so as to optimise the functioning of the movement.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter Three Midnight Blue watch white gold

In order to maximize the readability the second time indicator positioned in the lower part of the dial is displayed on two separate cylinders: the hours 1 to 6 on one and 7 to 12 on the other one. In the transition of the cylinders (forward and backward) between 6 and 7 and 12 and 1, the cylinder which is not used moves horizontally out of view giving space to the other cylinder.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter Three Midnight Blue

This innovative and unique mechanism is patented. Using two cylinders instead of just one means that only 6 figures have to be engraved on the circumference of the cylinder and this offers the possibility for the figures to be twice as large and therefore twice as easy to read.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter Three Midnight Blue watch case back movement

The cylinder for the Day/Night indication, which is positioned on the upper part of the dial, requires a 30 days manufacturing cycle. This very demanding manufacturing process goes through high precision machining, lining of hybrid ceramic, polishing, colouring of the sunrays and the stars through a galvanic process and finally hand painting of the faces of the Sun and the Moon.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter Two TCR – Big Date Instantaneous Triple Calendar

The Chapter Two TCR—Triple Calendar Round—confirms Chapter Two’s status as the world’s most legible triple calendar wristwatch while showing that Maîtres du Temps is the horological master of the sporty and casual as well as the elegant and complex.

Two of the world’s greatest living watchmakers, Daniel Roth and Peter Speake-Marin, have pushed the boundaries of haute horlogerie by creating a timepiece in which every single aspect—aesthetic and horological—has been meticulously refined to perfection.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter Two TCR - Big Date Instantaneous Triple Calendar

Chapter Two TCR sees Maîtres du Temps’ distinctive day and month roller indications seamlessly integrated into a complex circular case of high-tech Grade 5 titanium, available with either a high-polish finish or with sleek, black PVD.  The curved lines of the case are accentuated by eye-and light-catching 45° bevels along the case band that flow around the round, matte-black ceramic bezel to focus attention on the high-contrast, high-legibility dial.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter Two TCR - Big Date Instantaneous Triple Calendar

Central hour and minute hands are complemented by bold over-sized hour indices—with Roman numerals at 12, 3, and 9 o’clock—all filled with brightwhite Super-LumiNova that glows a vivid green in the dark. Arabic numerals mark five-minute intervals around the chapter ring, while small secondsat 6 o’clock are indicated by a visually arresting bright red handthat complements the 15-minute markers.

While this ensemble of clear, clean indications makes for the most readable of time-telling experiences, the big date window at 12 o’clock and the month and day-of-the-week indications—spelled out in full on their respective rollers in engaging Serpentine font—offer unprecedented legibility in a triple calendar wristwatch.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter Two TCR - Big Date Instantaneous Triple Calendar

As you might expect from the superstar lineup that developed Chapter Two, every single detail has been carefully considered, both visually and functionally. To ensure unmatched visual access to the dial-side indications, three anti-reflective sapphire crystals are utilized: one over the main dial and two curved crystals over the rollers, which are metalized to frame the month and date.

For ease of operation, there are two ergonomic, paddle-shaped pushers, each engraved with their respective functions, and located on the caseback to adjust the month and day rollers.  Similarly, the engraving on the big-date pusher in the case band at 2:00 identifies its function.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter Two TCR - Big Date Instantaneous Triple Calendar

The octagonal sapphire crystal display back provides a window to Chapter Two’s groundbreaking movement, which was developed by Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier in close collaboration with Peter Speake-Marin and Daniel Roth and was extensively tested, refined, and beautifully decorated until it satisfied the master watchmakers’ most exigent standards.

Through the display back, the eye is immediately drawn to the richly engraved and symbolically goblet-shaped rotor of the automatic winding system. The intricate panier guilloche decorating the rotor’s center provides a noble counterpoint to the text engraved around the rotor’s periphery: Maîtres de Temps’ motto, Masters and Their Craft—A Lifelong Pursuit of Excellence.

The richly hand-decorated movement features a veritable melody of harmonious fine finishing, from the sun-ray Côtes de Genève on the polished hand-beveled bridges, to the helical spirals and perlage on the mainplate, to the mirror-polished screw heads.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter Two TCR - Big Date Instantaneous Triple Calendar

Finally, the cool, casual aura of Chapter Two TCR is perfectly completed by a black, natural rubber strap with titanium folding buckle.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter Two Tonneau Classique

This exceptional timepiece by Maîtres du Temps was launched in 2014 on the occasion of the 5th Anniversary of the launch of the Chapter Two Original. This new model underlines even stronger the architectural aspect of the collection through its Art Deco inspired dial on which the bold indices majestically indicate the hours.

The Chapter Two collection features an instantaneous triple calendar displayed in large format thanks to the innovative high precision cylinders that in fact makes it the most legible mechanical calendar wristwatch in the world.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter Two Tonneau Classique watch with rose gold case

The technically revolutionary movement of the Chapter Two is the result of the unique know-how of Maîtres du Temps – Atelier d’Horlogerie and meets the highest requirement in terms of precision and performance. In particular, the driving mechanism of the cylinders required important cognitive development and innovative techniques. The performance of the instantaneous change of the big date and the displays positioned on the two cylinders at 6 o’clock (day) and at 12 o’clock (month) proves the quality of this innovative concept.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter Two Tonneau Classique rose gold watch

Chapter Two features elegant central hour and minute hands in solid gold with diamond-cut facets finishing and a small second at 6 o’clock, the big date at 12 o’clock and the day and month indication in full words on their respective cylinders. The combination of the big date and the displayed days and months in full letters gives the Chapter Two a legibility never seen before on a triple calendar wristwatch.

The Cylinders represent the essential DNA of Maîtres du Temps. They are manufactured in Anticorodal, an alloy of manganese, aluminum and magnesium which is resistant to oxidation and corrosion. The artisanal process of decoration of the cylinders requires several weeks of precise work, from the individual engraving of the day and month to the handmade coloring. Each step of the process needs a specific know-how and unique care.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter Two Tonneau Classique watch with white gold case

Inspired by the architectural codes of the Art Deco style the dial reflects a supreme purity of the shapes. Everything is done to facilitate the legibility of time. Long indices in solid gold set on a smart Opalin finished surface clearly indicate the hours. This original dial strengthens the character of the timepiece and makes it look elegant and classic.

The fluidity of the design of the distinctive tonneau shaped case hides its complex architecture and sophisticated design. Every single aspect of this timepiece is the result of refined and meticulous work: the inner lines of the lugs follow the wavy curves of the case giving it a unique harmony, while the day, date and month correctors have their functions engraved to facilitate their simple use.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter Two Tonneau Classique white gold watch

Six specially shaped sapphire crystals with anti-reflective surface treatment – three on top of the case and three on the case back – offer a unique visual access on the cylinders and the movement mechanism.

Looking through the octagon-shaped sapphire crystal of the display back into the beautifully decorated movement within, the eye is immediately drawn to the richly engraved symbolically goblet-shaped rotor of the automatic winding system. The intricate pannier guilloche decorating the rotor’s center provides a noble counterpoint to the text around the rotor’s periphery that reads Masters and Their Craft—A Lifelong Pursuit of Excellence.

The richly hand-decorated movement features a veritable melody of harmonious fine finishing, from the sunray Côtes de Genève on the bridges with their perfectly beveled edges, to the helical spirals and perlage on the mainplate, to the mirror-polished screw heads.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter One Tonneau Transparence Titanium (C1-3T) Limited Edition

Maîtres du Temps, the world renowned horology atelier based in La Chaux-de-Fonds, unveils their latest timepiece Chapter One Tonneau Transparence Titanium: C1-3T.

Barely visible to the naked eye, the sapphire crystal replaces the dial revealing the handiwork of the master watchmaker: impeccably finished bridges, precisely beveled edges, and a symphony of mechanical complexity. The Transparence Titanium, presented here in a limited edition of 11 pieces, unveils the heart and soul of a rare timepiece with an outstanding personality.

The long and flowing curves that shape the case give it an air of nobility and power that embodies the outstanding complexity of the original movement.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter One Tonneau Transparence Titanium (C1-3T) Limited Edition

Chapter One, a real masterpiece of horology, was the first timepiece in the world to feature a tourbillon movement incorporating a mono-pusher column wheel chronograph, retrograde date, retrograde GMT, and phase of the moon and day of the week indications displayed on their own distinctive high-precision cylinders.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter One Tonneau Transparence Titanium (C1-3T) Limited Edition

Efficiently transmitting power 90° to the two high-precision cylinders and ensuring that they work simultaneously with the time, date, GMT, and chronograph was an immense technical challenge. The harmoniously integrated cylinders, for example, had to be both large enough to be easily read and small enough to be ultra light and homogeneous with the case.

Scintillating, laser-pierced moon and stars on the outer cylinder of the moon phase indication add to the stellar elegance of Chapter One. The high-precision cylinders are made of anodized aluminium offering solidity while being lightweight. The painting adorning the cylinders is applied by hand based on a traditional process.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter One Tonneau Transparence Titanium (C1-3T) Limited Edition

The three-dimensional, arched and bold design of the Chapter One evokes more a sports car than a wristwatch. The different finishes obtained through successive brushings on the titanium material strengthen this appeal.

Polished, satin or sanded finish, all the case surfaces benefit from a specific surface treatment. This feat is even more outstanding as the hardness of the material makes any surface treatment a challenge. As a comparison, the decoration of this titanium case requires twice the time of a similar gold version.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter One Tonneau Transparence Titanium (C1-3T) Limited Edition

The curves of the four correctors integrating a locking system follow a curved line ending in an imaginary spot in order to perfectly marry the elegant design of the case. Manufactured in 18K gold, they incorporate 14 different components and were developed exclusively for Chapter One. The case back screws are also manufactured of 18K gold.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter One Tonneau Transparence Titanium (C1-3T) Limited Edition

The sapphire dial designed for Transparence is a work of art and an example of the highest level precision engineering. The 0.40 mm, ultrathin high-tech sapphire dial is cut and precisely laser-pierced more than twenty times to provide holes for the anchors to securely fasten the appliqués that mark the passage of time.

The fastidious process of machining the multi-beveled minute track, which includes hand-painted Super-LumiNova indices, illustrates that the level of detail in Chapter One Tonneau Transparence Titanium is not just limited to the movement. While the meticulous process of fitting the tourbillon cage to the fine, nearly invisible dial is reserved for only the most accomplished of watchmakers who dare to take on such a complicated assembly, the result is an extremely legible timepiece with a breathtaking view into mechanical mastery.

A  look at the dial shows in the center; the hour, minute and chronograph 60 second hand, the retrograde date at 3h, the tourbillon and the day of the week cylinder  at 6h, the retrograde second time zone (GMT) at 9h, the 60 minutes chronograph counter and the moon phase cylinder  at 12h.

The opening at 6h allows a unique view onto the superb finish of the tourbillon cage with its finely decorated M shaped cage bridge standing for Maîtres du Temps. The tourbillon cage makes one rotation in sixty seconds showing the motion of the elapsing time.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter One Tonneau Transparence Titanium (C1-3T) Limited Edition

Equally notable is the addition of the precious metal finish chronograph bridge visible through the octagonal sapphire display back. Through a patented plating process, four precious metals belonging to the platinum family—platinum, rhodium, ruthenium, and palladium—combine to give the chronograph bridge the darkened appearance unique to the Chapter One Transparence collection.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter One Round Transparence Limited Edition

Guided by Steven Holtzman, the Swiss haute-horology brand Maîtres du Temps brings together contemporary watchmaking’s greatest creative geniuses in unique collaborations. The vision of Maîtres du Temps is to inspire the creation of timepieces that will synthesize the traditional crafts of haute horlogerie with the artistry of today’s foremost horological visionaries.

The voyage of masterpiece timepieces from this visionary brand started with Chapter One (2008) featuring a combination of tourbillon, mono-pusher column wheel chronograph, retrograde date, and retrograde GMT, as well as moon phase and day of the week on rollers. In 2009, Maîtres du Temps presented the world’s most legible triple calendar wristwatch, Chapter Two, with its distinguishing instantaneous big date and day and month indications on rollers.

The year 2012 saw the introduction of Chapter Three Reveal, a stunning timepiece that displays hours, minutes, seconds, date, and phase of the moon, with two secret panels revealing a hidden second time zone and a day/night indicator on rollers.

In 2013, the brand is introducing Chapter One Round Transparence, an haute horology complication that reveals the handiwork of the master watchmaker: impeccably finished bridges, precisely beveled edges, and a symphony of mechanical complexity.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter One Round Transparence Limited Edition

Presented here in a limited edition of 11 pieces in red gold, the Chapter One Round Transparence is as stunning as it is revealing. The high precision, laser-etched sapphire see-through dial invites you to discover the meticulously decorated movement and all its mechanical prowess and intricate inner workings.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter One Round Transparence Limited Edition

The sapphire dial designed for Transparence is a work of art and an example of the highest level precision engineering. The 0.40 mm, ultrathin high-tech sapphire dial is cut and precisely laser-pierced more than twenty times to provide holes for the anchors to securely fasten the appliqués that mark the passage of time.

The fastidious process of machining the multi-beveled minute track, which includes hand-painted Super-LumiNova indices, illustrates that the level of detail in Chapter One Round Transparence is not just limited to the movement. While the meticulous process of fitting the tourbillon cage to the fine, nearly invisible dial is reserved for only the most accomplished of watchmakers who dare to take on such a complicated assembly, the result is an extremely legible timepiece with a breathtaking view into mechanical mastery.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter One Round Transparence Limited Edition watch

Equally notable is the addition of the precious metal finish chronograph bridge visible through the octagonal sapphire display back. Through a patented plating process, four precious metals belonging to the platinum family—platinum, rhodium, ruthenium, and palladium—combine to give the chronograph bridge the darkened appearance unique to the Chapter One Transparence collection.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter One Round Transparence Limited Edition

Chapter One Round Transparence takes center stage as the evolution of the Chapter One collection continues.Chapter One is a world-first combination of complications, comprising a tourbillon, mono-pusher chronograph, retrograde date, retrograde GMT, and two idiosyncratic rolling bars indicating the day of the week and phase of the moon. The collection is quintessential Maîtres du Temps and became an instant classic among rave reviews by the press and collectors across the globe.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter One Round Transparence Limited Edition

Chapter One, then and now, is a horological work of art, both inside and out. Long, flowing compound curves traverse the case, imparting a sense of nobility and power without leaving a trace of the complexity involved. The ease of both reading and adjusting Chapter One’s many indications disguises the fact that the micromechanical movement powering this masterpiece is crafted from 558 components.

A tour of the dial reveals central coaxial hours, minutes, and chronograph 60-second counter; tourbillon and day of the week roller at 6 o’clock; retrograde GMT at 9 o’clock; 60-minute chronograph counter and precision moon phase roller at 12 o’clock; and retrograde date at 3 o’clock.

Meticulous attention to every minute detail throughout the design and execution of all facets of Chapter One’s development has resulted in a timepiece of exceptional presence and refinement. The harmoniously integrated rolling bars, for example, had to be both large enough to be easily read and small enough to be ultralight and homogeneous with the case.

Scintillating, laser-pierced moon and stars on the outer roller of the moon phase indication add to its stellar elegance. The iconic rolling bars are unmistakable Maîtres du Temps and the foundation of the brand’s unmistakable DNA.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter One Round Transparence Limited Edition

The Chapter One collection is an enduring beacon of ingenuity and architectural form. As sublime as it is complex, the original tonneau case put the industry on notice to a new standard of excellence.

Followed by a creative interpretation of the classic round case, Chapter One Round demonstrated the collection’s versatility. Now, with the advent of Chapter One Transparence, in both tonneau and round cases—the technical prowess of the collection is proudly revealed for all to see. The One of 11 elegantly engraved at the back of each timepiece highlights the limitation of this exclusive series.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter Two Diamonds Big Date Triple Calendar

The Chapter Two Diamonds is a stunning and sparkling variation of the innovative Chapter Two Big Date Triple Calendar timepiece created in 2009 by Swiss luxury watch brand Maîtres du Temps in association with Daniel Roth and Peter Speake Marin, two extra ordinary geniuses of watch making. This diamond version is set to become world’s most beautiful triple calendar wristwatch.

Twin parallel lines of VVSI Top Wesselton diamonds adorn and accentuate the sensuous curves along the sides of Chapter Two’s elegant case and are linked by single rows of diamonds that form a visual bridge along the roller indications, top and bottom. A coruscating full-cut diamond set in the crown catches the eye and completes the sophisticated ensemble.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter Two Diamonds watch rose gold

Chapter Two Diamond is available enveloped in a choice of two cases: sumptuously warm red gold or the timeless nobility of white gold, both of which form a complimentary juxtaposition with the fiery brilliance of their diamonds.

Chapter Two features central hours and minutes indicated by elegant diamond-cut, solid gold hands, sub-seconds at 6 o’clock, big date at 12 o’clock, and the day and month spelled out in full on their respective rollers. The combination of a big date and full text for the days and months confers upon Chapter Two a legibility unprecedented in a triple calendar wristwatch. All enhanced by the eye-catching vivacity of more than 200 dazzling hand-set, brilliant-cut diamonds.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter Two Diamonds watch

With Chapter Two, renowned talent such as Master Watchmakers Daniel Roth and Peter Speake-Marin went beyond “very special”—they pushed the boundaries of haute horlogerie. Chapter Two features an instantaneous big date triple calendar that, thanks to innovative roller indications, is the world’s most legible calendar mechanical wristwatch, as well as the world’s first unabbreviated triple calendar mechanical wristwatch.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter Two Diamonds white gold watch

The long, flowing, diamond-set lines of the distinctive tonneau case belie its complex architecture and sophisticated design. Myriad thoughtful details and sagacious finishes catch the light. Every aspect of the timepiece has been meticulously refined:

The inside curves of the lugs match the flow of the case, ensuring absolute harmony, while the day, date, and month correctors are engraved with their functions for ease of operation. A total of six shaped, anti-reflective sapphire crystals—three on the front and three on the caseback—ensure unmatched visual access to both the indications and movement.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter Two Diamonds

Chapter Two’s technically groundbreaking movement was developed in close collaboration by its highly experienced master watchmakers and was extensively tested, refined, and decorated until Chapter Two satisfied their most exigent standards. In particular, the mechanism for driving the rollers demanded significant technical and inventive reflection.

Furthermore, changing the big date and both rollers instantaneously bears testament to the success of their innovative design and high-precision manufacture. Chapter Two Diamonds harmoniously blends the sophisticated refinement of dazzling immaculately set gems with superlative horological innovation from two of the world’s greatest watchmakers.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter Two Diamonds watch

The Case back of Chapter Two is unique and innovative. Two ergonomic, paddle-shaped pushers to adjust the day and month are engraved with their respective functions, and the displayed month or day on the dial side is cleverly indicated on the back through geometrically complex sapphire crystals.

This is a detail that eliminates the need to turn the watch over while adjusting the roller functions and is typical of the deep level of thought Chapter Two’s experienced masters have devoted to its development and design. The date corrector, seamlessly blending with the lines to the crown, also has its function engraved on the back.

Looking through the octagon-shaped sapphire crystal of the display back into the beautifully decorated movement within, the eye is immediately drawn to the richly engraved symbolically goblet-shaped rotor of the automatic winding system. The intricate panier guilloche decorating the rotor’s center provides a noble counterpoint to the text around the rotor’s periphery that reads Masters and Their Craft—A Lifelong Pursuit of Excellence.

The richly hand-decorated movement features a veritable melody of harmonious fine finishing, from the sun-ray Côtes de Genève on the bridges with their perfectly beveled edges, to the helical spirals and perlage on the mainplate, to the mirror-polished screw heads.

With its distinctive tonneau case shape, signature roller indications, octagon display back, and the superlative quality of its finish and construction, Chapter Two Diamonds exhibits the essential DNA that has propelled Maîtres du Temps to the forefront of horological design and innovation.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter Three Reveal

Swiss luxury watch brand Maîtres du Temps introduces its latest horology creation: “Chapter Three Reveal” featuring Date, Moon Phase, plus Hidden Additional Time Zone and Day/Night Indicators.

The Chapter Three Reveal is a perfect companion for the well-heeled globetrotter might feature the following: time, date, moon phase, and a second time zone and day/night indicator.

This classic, yet multifunctional timepiece featuring a blue guilloche dial embedded with lots of useful functions has been created in association with independent Master Watchmakers Kari Voutilainen and Andreas Strehler.

The Chapter Three Reveal has a couple of intimate secrets in reserve, to be revealed, and perhaps even shared, at the owner’s pleasure. A pusher set into the crown lowers two invisible panels in the dial to reveal two more hitherto hidden indications: a second time zone indicator (also known as a GMT) and a day/night indicator; both displayed on Maîtres du Temps’ signature rollers.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter Three Reveal

Solid 18K gold hands and large Roman numeral hour indices are exquisitely and legibly juxtaposed against the majestic blue dial, which is finely engraved with a radiating sunray pattern. With the secret panels closed, the central hours and minutes are complemented on the dial by a small seconds sub-dial at 8 o’clock that is esthetically balanced by the date sub-dial at 2 o’clock and a moon phase indicator at 4 o’clock.

Both the small seconds and date sub-dials are subtly distinguished from the main dial by Clous de Paris guilloche and are clearly marked with neat little nameplates. The earth’s shadow passes over a photo-realistic moon to indicate its phase.

While Kari developed the most of the movement, Andreas invented and designed new mechanisms—including the mechanism for operating the dial panels. Opening the invisible panels reveals the day/night indicator at 12 o’clock and the second time zone indicator at 6 o’clock.

The day/night roller rotates in 24 hours and features engraved, polished, printed, and hand-painted icons: the sun to symbolize day and the night sky to represent night. This indication is of particular benefit when using the second time zone, which is why it is revealed at the same time, as it enables the user to keep track of the hour at home and to know at a glance if it is day or night there.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter Three Reveal watch

The second time zone is adjusted by means of the ergonomic quick-set pusher at 9 o’clock, which esthetically follows the form of the case. Each push advances the second time zone roller by one hour. These time zone and day/night rollers are permanently synchronized with each other and can adjust both forwards and backwards in time through the crown.

To maximize legibility, the second time zone at the bottom of the dial is displayed on two separate rollers: hours 1–6 on one and 7–12 on the other. When transitioning (forwards or backwards) between 6 and 7 or 12 and 1, the superseded roller slides horizontally out of the way and the new roller moves into place. This innovative mechanism has been awarded a patent. Using two rollers instead of one means only six numbers have to be displayed around the circumference of each roller, enabling them to be twice as large, so twice as easy to read.

The Chapter Three Reveal movement, developed by Kari Voutilainen with refinements and technical solutions by Andreas Strehler, is both Maîtres du Temps’ first completely in-house movement and the first movement Voutilainen has developed for a brand other than his own. Voutilainen also specified and is responsible for the high-level finishing of the movement. To incorporate so many indications and mechanisms in such a slim, elegant case necessitated more than three years of collaborative work.

Developing the movement from scratch enabled the rollers to be integrated to the caliber rather than added as a more space-consuming module. High-efficiency conical gearing—a Strehler specialty—contributes to both the efficacy of the power distribution and reliability of the mechanisms.

The bespoke movement architecture also incorporates the mechanism for opening and closing the reveal panels in the dial. Building this functionality into the movement rather than adding to the complexity of the case maximizes both reliability and use of space.

The panel open/close mechanism is a movement complication in itself. With the dial closed, pushing the button in the crown lowers the panels below the dial, and releasing the button causes them to rotate out of view so that the second time zone and day/night rollers are revealed. Pushing the button again rotates the panels into position and, releasing the button causes them to elevate and sit flush with the dial.

As might be expected from two of the world’s best watchmakers, rich functionality and stylish good looks were not enough: a superlative watch should also be an accurate timekeeper. To that end, the movement is regulated by a Straumann escapement, featuring a lightweight energy-efficient escape lever and balance spring with an isochronism-improving Breguet overcoil.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter One Round

Maîtres du Temps presents Chapter One Round, featuring a bold, architecturally inspired round case housing Chapter One‘s groundbreaking combination of complications. The interplay of the multi-level concentric circles of the case and dial entices the viewer’s eye inward to the majestic amphitheater of the indication-rich dial.

There, attention might first alight either on the kinetic ballet of the sublimely finished tourbillon or on the eye-catching red of the counterpoised chronograph second hand, both in contrast to the backdrop of the dial’s dark brushed-satin finish. However, it isn’t long before the clear legibility of layout impresses with its elegant and functional design.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter One Round

The circles within circles are perfectly balanced by the juxtaposition of the rectangular forms of the two roller indications showing the day and moon phase, which curve down from the top of the muscular case like buttresses and seamlessly integrate the lugs for the strap. Large polished chamfers running the full length on each side of the case catch and dynamically reflect the light and provide a foil to the brushed finish of the vertical elements.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter One Round watch

Developed by a collaboration of world-renowned master watchmakers, Christophe Claret and Peter Speake-Marin, Chapter One Round features a world-first combination of complications: tourbillon, mono-pusher chronograph, retrograde date, retrograde GMT, and two rolling bars indicating the day of the week and phase of the moon.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter One Round watch movement

A tour of the highly legible dial reveals central coaxial hours, minutes, and chronograph 60-second counter; tourbillon and day of the week roller at 6 o’clock; retrograde GMT at 9 o’clock; 60-minute chronograph counter and precision moon phase roller at 12 o’clock; and retrograde date at 3 o’clock. Stylish ergonomic correctors with a slide-to-unlock feature make adjusting the calendar indications a tactical pleasure.

Actualizing the sophisticated case of Chapter One Round comprising 96 individual components requires the precision and care of an artist. The hand-polished and brushed-satin finishes of the three main case elements central body and two lugs demand meticulous exactitude to ensure that all of the finishes line up precisely so that the lines flow smoothly. The development of the case alone required a full year of research and development.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter One Round rose gold watch

The ease of both reading and adjusting Chapter One’s indications disguises the fact that Chapter One is an incredibly complex timepiece crafted from 678 finely finished and beautifully decorated components. Chapter One Round stands as an enduring testament to the skill, patience, and dexterity of its world-class creators.

The bold architectural form, innovative indications, and ergonomic functions of Chapter One belie the incredible complexity of its unique movement and the structural sophistication of its case.

Chapter One’s master watchmakers have come together to craft a horological work of art, both inside and out. Alternating finishes play with light around the case, imparting a sense of strength and majesty without leaving a trace of the complexity involved. The ease of both reading and adjusting Chapter One’s many indications disguises the fact that this is a world-first combination of complications crafted from 558 components.

No wristwatch before Chapter One has ever featured a tourbillon movement incorporating a mono-pusher column wheel chronograph, retrograde date, retrograde GMT, and phase of the moon and day of the week indications displayed on their own distinctive rolling bars. Efficiently transmitting power 90° to the two rollers and ensuring that they work simultaneously with the time, date, GMT, and chronograph was an immense technical challenge. That the challenge was met and surpassed is further testament to Chapter One’s enormously talented team.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter One Round watch with rose gold case

Myriad details make Maîtres du Temps Chapter One Round a timepiece that richly rewards a closer look, from the small window between the day roller and the tourbillon, which allows a unique view of the superbly finished gyrating tourbillon cage, to the contrast of the hands against the brushed-satin finish of the multi-strata dial. Even the locking corrector pushers are formed from curves running concentrically to perfectly follow the graceful flow of the circular case.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter Two – Big Date Triple Calendar

After the Chapter One watch, Maîtres du Temps presents a new addition “Chapter Two” to its line of extra ordinary high end time pieces.

The new timepiece was created in association with  three of the world’s greatest living watchmakers – Mr. Daniel Roth, Mr. Roger Dubuis, and Mr. Peter Speake-Marin – and one of the world’s most prestigious movement manufactures.

Equipped with a self-winding movement, the Maîtres du Temps Chapter Two features an instantaneous big date triple calendar that, thanks to innovative roller indications and the unparalleled experience of the master watchmakers involved, is the world’s most legible calendar mechanical wristwatch.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter Two – Big Date Triple Calendar

Chapter Two features central hours and minutes indicated by elegant diamond-cut, solid gold hands, sub-seconds at 6 o’clock, big date at 12 o’clock, and the day and month spelled out in full on their respective rollers. The combination of a big date and full text for the days and months confers upon Chapter Two a legibility unprecedented in a triple calendar wristwatch.

The long flowing lines of the distinctive tonneau case belie its complex architecture and sophisticated design. Myriad thoughtful details and sagacious finishes catch the light. Every aspect of the timepiece has been meticulously refined: the inside curves of the lugs match the flow of the case, ensuring absolute harmony, while the day, date, and month correctors are engraved with their functions for ease of operation.

A total of six shaped, anti-reflective sapphire crystals—three on the front and three on the caseback—ensure unmatched visual access to both the indications and movement.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter Two’s technically groundbreaking movement was developed in close collaboration by its highly experienced master watchmakers and was extensively developed, tested, refined, and decorated until Chapter Two satisfied their most exigent standards. In particular, the mechanism for driving the rollers demanded significant technical and inventive reflection to obtain the most efficient and reliable system possible—the fact that the big date and both rollers change instantaneously bears testament to the success of their innovative design and high-precision manufacture.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter Two Big Date Triple Calendar Rose Gold watch

Turning Chapter Two over reveals a caseback unlike anything that has gone before.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter Two – Big Date Triple Calendar

Maîtres du Temps Chapter One with Black Dial and White Gold Case

Building on the extremely successful launch of the groundbreaking Chapter One watch in 2008, Maîtres du Temps now presents a sensational new limited edition, featuring a jet-black dial and rollers set in a high-contrast white gold case.

Timeless elegance is evoked by the juxtaposition of elegant white gold hands against the black dial and of the bright red of the counterpoised chronograph second hand against the engine-turned sun-ray guilloche of the sub-dials. The ethereal beauty of the moon and stars against a dark night sky belies the high-tech nature of its anodized aluminum roller—a roller visually and technically balanced by the day of the week roller at the opposite end of the long, sweeping compound curves of the stunningly finished case.

The highly polished tourbillon literally explodes from the dark dial in a highly reflective burst of light, some of which streams in through the opening to the day roller and sweeps up from under the tourbillon, adding to the three-dimensionality of the spectacle. Amid the indication-rich nature of the dial, the tourbillon cage and bridge stand out as if under a bright spotlight on a semi-darkened stage.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter One with Black Dial and White Gold Case

Developed by a collaboration of three of the world’s greatest watchmakers, Mr. Christophe Claret, Mr. Roger Dubuis, and Mr. Peter Speake-Marin, Chapter One features a world-first combination of complications: tourbillon, mono-pusher chronograph, retrograde date, retrograde GMT, and two rolling bars at 6 o’clock and 12 o’clock, indicating the day of the week and phase of the moon, respectively.

The dial reveals central coaxial hours, minutes, and chronograph 60-second counter; tourbillon and day of the week roller at 6 o’clock; retrograde GMT at 9 o’clock; 60-minute chronograph counter and precision moon phase roller at 12 o’clock; and retrograde date at 3 o’clock.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter One watch with Black Dial and White Gold Case

Chapter One is imbued with the intoxicating fusion of Mr. Claret’s undisputed mastery of high-end complications, Mr. Dubuis’ rich lifetime of experience in haute horlogerie, and Mr. Speake-Marin’s unparalleled ability to bridge the very best of both traditional and modern watchmaking.

The ease of both reading and adjusting Chapter One’s many indications disguises the fact that this is an extremely complex movement that has been handcrafted and meticulously assembled from 558 components. Efficiently transmitting power to the two rollers and ensuring that they work simultaneously with the time, date, GMT, and chronograph was just one of the immense technical challenges met and conquered.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter One

The elegant, streamlined form, innovative indications, and ergonomic functions of Chapter One belie the incredible complexity of its unique movement and the compound-curve sophistication of its case. Chapter One’s three Masters—Mr. Christophe Claret, Mr. Roger Dubuis, and Mr. Peter Speake-Marin—have come together to craft a horological work of art, both inside and out.

Long, flowing compound curves traverse the case, imparting a sense of nobility and power without leaving a trace of the complexity involved. The ease of both reading and adjusting Chapter One’s many indications disguises the fact that this is a world-first combination of complications crafted from 558 components.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter One tourbillon chronograph

No wristwatch before Chapter One has ever featured a tourbillon movement incorporating a mono-pusher column wheel chronograph, retrograde date, retrograde GMT, and phase of the moon and day of the week indications displayed on their own distinctive rolling bars. Efficiently transmitting power 90° to the two rollers and ensuring that they work simultaneously with the time, date, GMT, and chronograph was an immense technical challenge.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter One movement

That the challenge was met and surpassed is further testament to Chapter One’s enormously talented team.A tour of the dial reveals central coaxial hours, minutes, and chronograph 60-second counter, tourbillon and day of the week roller at 6 o’clock; retrograde GMT at 9 o’clock; 60-minute chronograph counter and precision moon phase roller at 12 o’clock; and retrograde date at 3 o’clock.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter One movement

Meticulous attention to every minute detail throughout the design and execution of all facets of Chapter One’s development has resulted in a timepiece of exceptional presence and refinement.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter One rose gold WATCH

The harmoniously integrated rolling bars, for example, had to be both large enough to be easily read and small enough to be ultra-light and homogeneous with the case. Scintillating, laser-pierced moon and stars on the outer roller of the moon phase indication add to its stellar elegance.

Maîtres du Temps Chapter One tourbillon monopusher chronograph

Myriad details make Chapter One a timepiece that richly rewards a closer look, from the small window between the day roller and the tourbillon, which allows a unique view of the superbly finished gyrating tourbillon cage, to the series of mirror-polished angled surfaces catching and reflecting light and bringing the multi-level dial to life. Even the locking corrector pushers are formed from curves meeting at an imaginary point so as to perfectly follow the graceful flow of the case.
