LUMINOX

Like many other American success stories, LUMINOX came from a forward-thinking individual realizing a need in the market and meeting it. Barry Cohen had been in the fashion watch business for quite some time when he came across a Swiss self-powered illumination system and knew that it would make watches more visible and easier to read in low or no light situations.

As a result, Cohen and a partner developed watches using this unique illumination system (called Luminox Light Technology) and LUMINOX was born back in 1989 (Lumi is Latin for light while Nox is Latin for dark), driven by a commitment to offer cutting-edge luminescence and readability in its line of high performance sports watches.

The Luminox Navy SEAL watch is the timepiece that made Luminox famous. The officer in charge of procurement for the Navy SEALs, Nick North, was sent to a trade show specifically to look for a new, more dependable watch for night missions. He approached Luminox’s founder Barry Cohen to develop a watch specifically for them and the Navy SEAL watch was born.

After Luminox provided the watches to the SEALs, more elite units contacted them directly, while at the same time Luminox began marketing the watch across the country and the world. Luminox was then approached by US Air Force pilots flying the F-17 fighter jet. They were wearing the Navy SEAL timepieces, but chafed at the word “Navy” on the dial. Luminox then developed a watch for these pilots and approached Lockheed Martin, the makers of the F-17, for a picture of the plane to use in the catalog. This initial contact turned into an exclusive arrangement to produce Lockheed Martin timepieces, including watches dedicated to the F-117 Nighthawk, F-16 Fighting Falcon, SR71 Blackbird and the new F-22 Raptor.

Throughout the following 20 years, Luminox has never strayed from its mission and this has been confirmed and validated by the many elite military and law enforcement units that have adopted Luminox as standard equipment. Luminox has expanded its collection to include a variety of styles, created for the active consumer, the sportsman, law enforcement and military groups, divers and more. Currently, Luminox is distributed in 40 countries around the world and supplies elite units from all over the world. In addition, the man on the street has shown particular interest in Luminox, anxious to use the watches put to the test every single day – on the world’s most difficult jobs, figuring rightly that if they have been requested by, designed for and used by the Navy SEALs, they have to be able to stand up to every day use.

The Technology

The Luminox Light Technology makes Luminox watches extremely visible at night – in fact, the technology Luminox uses provides 24/7 luminosity, no matter the conditions, for 25 years. Most other watches use luminescent paint that has to be charged by a light source and fades very quickly, or a “push to light” system, where you push a button for battery-driven illumination. Luminox, however, uses propriety technology, in the past reserved for the military, that makes Luminox watches stand out, literally.

Each Luminox watch features tiny gas lights (borosilicate glass capsules), which are always lit, on the hands, hour markers and when necessary, bezels. As a result of this unique technology, Luminox watches are always readable at a glance, no matter the conditions. The U.S. military has long recognized the advantages of micro gas light sources and their use is mandated in procurement specification MIL-W-46374F. Being able to read the watches in any conditions, even in total darkness, is an important requirement of many military and law enforcement agencies.

The U.S. Navy SEALs use the watches, as do U.S. Air Force pilots, FBI and ATF agents, Secret Service officers, Border Patrol units, Coast Guard officers, SWAT teams, as well as general law enforcement officers, helicopter search and rescue pilots, professional divers and other groups. The Luminox Light Technology system is hand applied in each and every watch. Though more complicated, expensive and time consuming than normal luminescence, it is one of the things that makes Luminox watches special. This unique technology and the additional quality control steps Luminox mandates require extraordinary attention to detail and care in manufacturing. All Luminox watches are Swiss-made.

Production

Luminox watches are Swiss Made, produced by Luminox’s corporate partner, Mondaine Watch Company, one of the leaders in Swiss manufacturing. Located in Zurich with manufacturing facilities in Biberist, Switzerland, Mondaine recently won a Swiss Logistics Award for its “just in time” production. Mondaine applies all its years of experience when producing the complicated Luminox watches.

LUMINOX – LOCKHEED MARTIN® COOPERATION

Lockheed Martin®, the largest defense contractor in the world, and maker of some of the most unique and compelling jets in aviation history, is a giant in the aviation world, a standard bearer for professionalism, attention to detail and the highest possible quality. The fact that Lockheed Martin has chosen Luminox to make signature watches based on their airplanes is a true feather in the brand’s cap.

Like the U.S. Navy SEALs, military pilots flying the F-117 Nighthawk™ Stealth jets out of Edwards Air Force Base approached Luminox to make watches specifically for them, utilizing the brand’s unique design and the self-powered illumination system employed in all Luminox watches.

These pilots were already wearing the basic Navy SEAL models and using the illuminated second hand to time bombing missions, but they chafed at the word “Navy” on these watches. They asked Luminox to make a watch specifically for them. Luminox immediately began work on a new model for these elite pilots. In order to get a picture of the F-117 Nighthawk™ to use in communication materials, Luminox contacted Lockheed Martin®. The company was interested in developing a multi-year program to develop a series of aviation-inspired timepieces tied to specific fighters within their “collection,” and a deal was quickly signed.

The first project was the USAF F-117 Nighthawk™ Stealth series made of black PVD-plated steel to evoke the blacked out flavor of the famous airplane. Then came the F-16 Fighting Falcon™ series developed to herald the “workhorse” of the U.S. Air Force, and added in 2005 was the SR-71 Blackbird™ series, which celebrates the 1960s aviation icon that set records that still stand for flight speed and altitude.

Luminox – Sea Turtle 0300 Series & Sea Turtle Giant 0320 Series

Luminox, known for its pioneering use of self-powered illumination technology, launches the newest addition to the nautical SEA series – the Sea Turtle Collection. This is Luminox’s latest lower-priced watch collection targeting a new set of consumers in the Outdoor Market.

The Sea Turtle collection is being introduced at a lower price point making it accessible to a broader consumer base, but it still has all of the important components that make a Luminox watch lightweight, tough and reliable. Those features include an incredibly strong Carbon Compound case, 10ATM water resistance, scratch resistant mineral glass crystal and a stainless steel double-gasket protected crown. The classic Luminox case design with the protected crown balanced by an opposite outcropping has been compared to the shape of a turtle, hence the Sea Turtle name.

The Luminox Light Technology (LLT) provides unmatched night visibility through a self-powered illumination system that lasts up to 25 years without requiring an exterior light source or the push of a button. Traditionally, Luminox watches feature Tritium tubes on every numeral on the watch dial but the new Sea Turtle collection provides the same 24/7 visibility that Luminox consumers depend upon while using half as many gas tubes. Rather than all twelve numerals, the SEA Turtle watches have six tubes marking 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 & 12 and the bezel illumination at the 12 marker is SuperLumiNova.

Always striving for maximum wearability in all circumstances, the signature strap of the Sea Turtle collection is now featuring a loop-lock that guarantees enhanced comfort on the wrist. As a differentiator in the market, the Sea Turtle collection is extremely tough, lightweight and retails at a very reasonable and affordable SRP of CHF 240.  This new collection is offered in both the popular 44mm size (0320 Series) and a 39mm size (0300 series) for those who prefer a slightly smaller option.

Luminox Navy SEAL 3500 Series

This year, Luminox presents the Navy SEAL 3500 Series, the next evolution of the best-selling Navy SEAL collection of timepieces.

Navy SEALs require a sense of security that their gear will work when needed. Luminox honors the legacy of these elite teams by designing watches conceived with Navy SEALs input over the years and manufactured in a way that leverages the most advanced technology.  This effort results in watches that function in all circumstances, having performed under the toughest conditions and in the harshest environments during testing by these maritime commandos. Day or night, the Navy SEAL series from Luminox will serve you well and function perfectly.

The Luminox Light Technology (LLT) provides unmatched night visibility through a self-powered illumination system that lasts up to 25 years without requiring an exterior light source or the push of a button.

Available in the slightly larger 45mm size, the series comes in seven colorways from the stealth blackout to the bright yellow favored by divers. The Navy SEAL 3500 models feature a newly designed signature PU strap, with the exception of the 3502 and 3502.BO models which has the exclusive Luminox Carbon Compound solid link bracelet with stainless steel buckle.

The case and the unidirectional ratcheting bezel are all made of Carbon Compound which results in an attractive yet incredibly light and durable timepiece. The crystal is scratch-resistant, tempered mineral glass and the double gasket stainless steel crown enables water resistance to 20ATM.

The Navy SEAL 3500 Series is no short of refined details. Often compared to the shape of a turtle, the now iconic turtle-shape Luminox case design features a protected crown balanced by an opposite outcropping that depicts a 200M stamp at the 9 marker. Additionally, the Luminox logo is beautifully engraved on the crown.

The stainless steel screw down case back reveals an exquisite 3D Navy SEAL eagle logo. Always striving for maximum wearability in all circumstances, the signature strap of the Navy SEAL 3500 Series is now featuring a loop-lock that guarantees enhanced comfort on the wrist.

Luminox Black Ops 8880 Series

Luminox watches are employed by many Spec Ops groups around the world because of their lightweight rugged construction and 24/7 illumination technology.

The Black Ops series is durable, legible and specially designed for real world use. Black Ops refers to covert operations by a government, a government agency, or a military organization. Professionals in military, law enforcement and SWAT teams depend on Luminox’s accuracy, lightweight strength and unmatched night visibility to synchronize and time operations.

To better serve these elite forces, Luminox has developed a new series of stealth Black Ops timepieces with upgraded features. The Black Ops 8880 Series has a Carbon Compound case and unidirectional ratcheting bezel with the addition of a stainless steel screw down case back for enhanced water resistance. The new sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coatings is even more scratch resistant than previous Series and makes for improved visibility in bright sunlight.

Navy SEALs, law enforcement, emergency personnel and more wear Luminox watches, and these professionals need to be able to see the time no matter the conditions. That’s why Luminox uses tiny tritium gas tubes, which will provide illumination for up to 25 years. Unlike other luminosity systems, which depend on exterior light sources to charge luminous paint or a pushbutton to illuminate the watch, the luminosity is built right into Luminox watches, ensuring that you will always be able to see the time, no matter the conditions.

Luminox Scott Cassell UVP 3500 Set Series

Scott Cassell is an expert military operative – a Counter-terrorism Combat Dive Instructor to the Special Ops community, an anti-piracy consultant and sniper and a former Special Ops combat medic and MedEvac Flight Instructor in the Army National Guard.  Cassell is also a consummate adventurer, someone who embraces danger and relies on Luminox timepieces as part of his Essential Gear.

A man of high ideals and a true explorer, his exploits are undertaken with unwavering commitment to a clearly defined goal—the protection of the world’s oceans and their inhabitants. Never losing sight of this cause, Cassell explores the undersea world, documents his discoveries for science, and hunts down lawbreakers whose activities threaten ocean ecosystems. And Luminox is with him every step of the way, on his wrist and also supporting his work through sales of a new special edition set, the 3509.SC.SET.

When he’s not hunting down poachers, Cassell explores the underwater world. He knows that people are more motivated to protect the things they understand best, but the vast majority of the world’s oceans remain mysterious and unexplored. So Cassell created the non-profit Undersea Voyager Project (UVP), which helps marine researchers, educators, students, and “citizen scientists” explore and learn about the underwater environment through dives in specially equipped submarines and live webcasts of the expeditions. As an undersea explorer, Cassell has often encountered the unknown, documented his discoveries, and freely shared them with the scientific and educational communities. The UVP multiplies learning opportunities by opening the world’s unexplored oceans to those inspired by deep-sea discovery.

In support of the UVP, Luminox has created the new 3509.SET in collaboration with Cassell. A portion of proceeds from sales of this watch will go toward funding UVP and its mission of exploration.

The Swiss-made 3509.SC.SET is built for diving, with a sturdy Carbon Compound case. It has a stainless steel protected crown, unidirectional ratcheting bezel, 200-meter water resistance and a clear, high-contrast dial with Luminox Light Technology (LLT) that glow for up to 25 years, regardless of conditions, so that the watch is always visible. The orange dial is marked with both the Luminox logo and the UVP logo. The stainless steel case back depicts a 3D marking of Cassell’s U boat. The watch is provided as a set with three interchangeable straps – one polyurethane, one webbing textile, one Velcro faststrap with the UVP giant squid logo – a compass and a strap-changing tool – all packed in a dive mask storage box.

Luminox New Carbon SEAL 3800 Series

In the new Carbon SEAL 3800 series, the case is made of a compound using 40% Carbon in bar form. This amount of carbon changes everything, making the case lighter (three times lighter than titanium), more durable, exceedingly hypoallergenic, more scratch resistant than most other materials and more chemical and heat resistant.

Luminox, known for its use of self-powered illumination, is always looking for new materials and new ways to enhance performance. Carbon is used in state of the art vehicles such as aircraft, exotic and race cars, motorcycles and yachts. The use of carbon bars has revolutionized case manufacturing for Luminox, making it possible to produce a highly attractive yet incredibly light and durable timepiece.

In other carbon cases, Luminox mixed carbon powder with polymers, but with the Carbon SEAL, long carbon bars support the polymers. In fact, during testing Luminox set fire to the case and all that remained were the carbon bars, completely unmarred.

This construction results in a lighter, stiffer and more durable case. The material itself is a very attractive anthracite color, that doesn’t get hot in warm temperatures or cold in more frigid climates. Exceedingly comfortable and easy to wear, the new Carbon SEAL is water resistant to 300 meters/1,000 feet, enabling the timepiece to withstand incredible pressure on deep dives. The 3800 is engineered with more robust components; an extra thick sapphire crystal and stainless steel case back that ensure its water resistance.

The real Navy SEALs, law enforcement, emergency personnel and more wear Luminox watches, and these professionals need to be able to see the time no matter the conditions.

Luminox has changed the game once again with the new 46mm Carbon SEAL 3800 series, available in two dial colors, and all the timepieces in the 3800 series come on a rubber strap, while the special limited edition (500 pieces) comes on a carbon bar polymer compound bracelet.

Luminox F-117 Nighthawk™ GMT 6420 Series

Like the U.S. Navy SEALS, military pilots flying the F-117 Nighthawk™ Stealth jets out of Edwards Air Force Base approached Luminox to make watches specifically for them, utilizing the brand’s unique design and the self-powered illumination system. The first Lockheed Martin project was the USAF F-117 Nighthawk™ Stealth series and 16 years later Luminox has announced the redesigned F-117 Nighthawk™ GMT 6420 series paying homage to one of the most remarkable strategic fighter jets in aviation history.

With its refined design, the Luminox F-117 Nighthawk series references the sleek charcoal aerodynamic contours of the aircraft, from the diamond–shaped faceted bezel to the angular links of the bracelet.

The 44mm case sports a sandblasted finish to lend a matte look reminiscent of the jet’s surface. The Arabic numerals on the dial and bezel feature a stencil font from the cockpit in an ice blue SuperLuminova for a glow-in-the-dark effect. Along with the LLTs (Luminox Light Technology) in contrasting vivid yellow, the watch has unmatched night visibility in all conditions and a singular stealth aesthetic.

The Nighthawk boasts a multi-jewel Swiss Quartz movement with GMT function for dual time zones with anti-reflective sapphire crystal, and comes in two models; the signature solid link bracelet with gun-metal PVD-plating (6422) and, for those who prefer a strap, a leather-backed Kevlar band (6421).

Luminox Dress Field Series 1830, 42mm

Luminox announces the Dress Field 1830 series, the brand’s classic men’s stainless-steel timepiece combining rugged yet simple styling with a clean modern look that takes you seamlessly from the field to the boardroom.

Originating in the 1880’s, the field watch became popular during the First World War due to soldier’s demands for reliable and portable timepieces. The battlefield environment created the need for easy to read, exceptionally water and shock resistant watches and the Field watch evolved with a distinctive utilitarian style. Outdoor sports enthusiasts require the same features as soldiers, rugged watches with uncluttered, instantly-readable dials. Solid stainless steel cases and thick, strong leather straps make them a menswear staple – everyday gear that transitions easily from work to play, the office to outdoors.

These newest additions to the Field series feature a smaller 42mm (as opposed to the 45mm Atacama Field series) brushed stainless steel case, with a subtle dual texture metal dial and indices instead of numerals, on supple calfskin straps.

The Sapphire crystal has an anti-reflective coating for clearer visibility in sunlight and the trademark Luminox self-illuminating technology provides unmatched night visibility, 24/7 for up to 25 years.

Luminox F-22 Raptor Chronograph 9240 Series, Titanium, 44 mm

This year, Luminox is introducing new restyled models in the F-22 Raptor Chronograph series featuring solid titanium cases and slide rule bezels. Inspired by the legendary stealth fighter, these Swiss Made chronographs are great looking and extremely rugged, built to fly in the F-22 Raptor or just to fly through life.

The F-22 Raptor from Lockheed Martin is the most advanced fighter jet ever built. The Raptor’s combination of stealth, aerodynamic performance and situational awareness gives the aircraft unprecedented air combat capabilities, especially in today’s long range warfare. Lockheed Martin produced 195 of these amazing jets for the United States Air Force, with the last one being delivered on May 2, 2012.

The F-22 Raptor can soar 10 miles high and fly at supersonic speeds for extended periods of time, thanks to its ground-breaking “supercruise” technology, which propels the jet to speeds greater than Mach 1.5 without the use of afterburners. In addition, the Raptor has built-in stealth technology so it virtually undetectable by radar.

The Air Force described the F-22 as “unmatched by any known or projected fighter,” while the National Aeronautic Association awarded Lockheed Martin the 2006 Collier Trophy, American aviation’s most prestigious award, for “designing, testing and operating the revolutionary F-22 Raptor, providing total air dominance for America’s future.”

Luminox has partnered with Lockheed Martin for the last 16 years to bring aviation and watch enthusiasts a series of creative timepieces inspired by the most remarkable strategic aircraft in aviation history. The design of the Luminox F-22 Raptor Chronograph incorporates elements of this cutting-edge fighter plane: the crown shape is taken from the tail cone and the top view of the bracelet mimics the top view of the jet, all functional angles, while the case back features an engraving of the F-22 Raptor from above.

Built of solid titanium, a material that is both stronger and much lighter than steel, the new 44mm Swiss Made chronographs boast a utilitarian slide rule bezel, perfect for the calculations a pilot has to make while on a mission (e.g. conversions, fuel consumption, air speed and distance calculations and more).

The F-22 Raptor Chronographs are incredibly legible, easy to read at a glance in the day or in total darkness thanks to Luminox’s mastery of luminosity. These F-22 Raptor Chronographs are always visible, boasting self-powered luminosity that guarantees that these watches will be illuminated constantly for up to 25 years.

The dial layout is the traditional three-subdial chronograph format, displaying running seconds, elapsed minutes and elapsed hours, with a central chronograph second hand. An oversized date is positioned at six o’clock. The watches are powered by Swiss quartz movements for incredible precision and ease of use, and the 44mm titanium case is water resistant to 200 meters.

The watches are available in four models; a black dial version available on a solid link titanium bracelet, or a black or brown leather strap; and a white dial model with a gray webbing strap.

The new, redesigned Luminox F-22 Raptor chronographs in titanium are rugged timepieces that express a love for aviation, purpose-built design and adventure.

Luminox Special Operations Challenge – The 3050 Navy SEAL Colormark (3053.SOC.SET) and the 4220 ANU (4223.SOC.SET)

Luminox started its relationship with the Navy SEAL teams over 20 years ago when SEALs first discovered the unique self-powered illumination technology found in Luminox watches, and requested a watch series be made for them. Since that first meeting Luminox has continuously updated its line of watches to meet the demanding requirements of this community of warriors as well as the needs of other elite forces around the world. The Navy SEAL Colormark series is the evolution of that original series of timepieces.

Luminox Spec Ops Challenge 3053.SOC.SET: 44mm, carbon reinforced
polycarbonate case and case back, tempered scratch resistant mineral
crystal, water resistant to 200 meters, signature black PU strap, and
Luminox self-powered illumination. Swiss Made.

In 2013 Luminox had the opportunity to refine one of its watches to specifically address the needs of maritime commandos with the direct collaboration of SEALs, both active duty and retired.
This partnership resulted in the A.N.U. (Authorized for Navy Use) series featuring a stainless steel case, with screw crown and case back, sapphire crystal, multi-jewel Swiss quartz movement and 10 year lithium battery.

Luminox Spec Ops Challenge 4223.SOC.SET: 45mm, black PVD plated stainless steel case, screw down crown & case back, unidirectional ratcheting bezel, antireflective sapphire crystal, water resistant to 200 meters, signature PU strap and Luminox self-powered illumination. Swiss Made.

Luminox is partnering with retired Navy SEALs to offer the Special Operations Challenge – the chance for civilians to train like a SEAL for a day. The Special Operations Challenge watches commemorate this enduring relationship with the SEALs.

The L.S.O.C. sets are sold in two different sets one featuring the 3050 Navy SEAL Colormark (3053.SOC.SET) and the 4220 ANU (4223.SOC.SET). Each watch is sold as a set with an interchangeable webbing textile strap and changing tool.

A percentage of the proceeds of the sales of these watches will go to the Navy SEAL Foundation.

Luminox Atacama Field Series (New Models)

Luminox has yet again breathed new life into the very traditional Field watch category. The Atacama Field Series is named after the Chilean Atacama region, one of the driest areas in the entire world.

The Atacama Field Series blends the functionality of a modern Swiss Made timepiece with an updated retro look and rugged styling. The newest pieces, day-date models (1922.BOB, 1924, 1924.M and 1929) and chronograph alarm models (1942.BOB, 1944, 1944.M and 1949), feature both earthy and bold new color ways, and the return of the classic Black-on-Black.

Originating in the 1880’s, the field watch gained popularity during the First World War due to soldier’s demands for reliable and portable timepieces. Trench fighting required quick, accurate timing so watches had to be small enough to be worn on the wrist.

The battlefield environment also created a need for exceptionally water and shock resistant watches, and the Field watch quickly evolved a distinctive style – rugged and utilitarian with virtually no embellishment. For almost a century, the Field Watch has epitomized American heritage style, and its popularity continues to grow.

Over time, the style has been updated and contemporized growing in case size with the trend towards larger watches, and also with the addition of quartz movement reliability with the advent of this technology.

The Chrono Alarm models feature the innovative and proprietary highly audible sound box construction for which Luminox is renowned. Water resistance ratings are 200 meters.

Luminox Limited Edition Tony Kanaan Valjoux (New Model – 1181)

Luminox introduces new version of the Limited Edition Tony Kanaan Valjoux Automatic. Since 2008 Luminox has partnered with Indy 500 champion Tony Kanaan to bring his signature watch series to his devoted fan base. In collaboration, they have produced five successful Limited Edition series that have changed based on the evolution of Tony’s livery colors and now announces the latest Valjoux model featuring his new team number and colors. This new model is limited to 310 pieces worldwide.

All Tony Kanaan timepieces feature his signature asymmetrical black PVD-plated 316L stainless steel case with a high polish ceramic bezel and carbon fiber inlay on the case sides. The Valjoux model has a classic upscale look with a black vertically textured acid-etched dial for textural contrast. Kanaan is currently driving Car #10 for Chip Ganassi Racing Teams (CGRT) and this model features the TK logo, his car number ‘10’, with the Racing Red dial accent stripe and timing second hand. The thick black leather strap also has red contrast stitching and red leather backing.

The Valjoux features a skeleton back and sapphire crystals on top and bottom. The watch is water-resistant to 100 meters and features the Luminox Light Technology system of self-powered micro gas tubes, mounted on the hands and markers of the watches, which glow continuously for up to 25 years. The Tony Kanaan Limited Edition, like all Luminox watches, is Swiss Made.

Luminox P-38 Lightning GMT (9420) & Chronograph (9440) Series

Utilizing aircraft-inspired details, the watches of the Luminox AIR series pay tribute to some of the most remarkable strategic aircraft in aviation history. Now two new Luminox timepieces, created under official and exclusive worldwide license with Lockheed Martin, introduce vintage–inspired models to the Luminox collection. Vintage or “throwback” apparel is a strong trend in men’s fashion as designers are reinterpreting popular designs from the past. In the watch world, this offers men the opportunity to buy new throwback watches without paying a vintage watch price.

The P-38 Lightning had a unique and compelling design and the watches pay homage to this industrial pre-war design with their cushion shaped stainless steel case, and dial font pulled directly from the instruments in the plane cockpit. The P-38 is available in Day/Date, Chronograph and Automatic movements. The Day/Date model has a secondary hour hand that can be set to a second time zone (or to GMT time), while the primary hour hand is set to local time, enabling the wearer to track two time zones.

The new 9427 GMT and 9447 Chronograph models feature a handsome smooth grain tan calf leather strap with ivory stitching. These straps are 4mm thick single piece leather with rough cut edges (essentially like a belt for the wrist) adding to the vintage character of the series.

First conceived in 1937, the twin-boomed P-38 was the most innovative plane of its day and the ultimate weapon, combining speed with unheard-of advances: two supercharged engines and a potent mix of four 50-caliber machine guns and a 20mm cannon.

Upon its official introduction in 1940, the P-38 was capable of climbing to 3,300 feet in a single minute and reaching 400 mph, 100 mph faster than any other fighter in the world. It also doubled as an intimidating long-range threat, capable of carrying a larger payload than early B-17s and boasting a range of 1,150 miles. With its distinctive design, the P-38 was sleek and its twin tails gave it a radical new look. Nicknamed the “fork-tailed devil” by the Luftwaffe and “two planes, one pilot” by the Japanese, its versatility and ruggedness during WWII were tanks, and shoot down fighters and bombers.

Luminox SR-71 Blackbird Limited Edition Valjoux Automatic (9080 Series)

Luminox announces the return of the successful SR-71 Blackbird Limited Edition Valjoux Automatic. This model features a deep Midnight Green enamel dial and re-designed crowns and pushers with a pyramid surface for aesthetic appeal and ease of manipulation.

Created with input from Lockheed Martin test pilots, the SR-71 features the famous Valjoux 7750 Automatic Chronograph movement renowned for its quality and reliability, with the added advantage of Luminox Light Technology. Only 300 will be made worldwide.

The Luminox SR-71 BLACKBIRD series is the crown jewel of Luminox’s proprietary collaboration with Lockheed Martin, the world’s largest defense contractor, and maker of some of the most accomplished jets in aviation history. The series celebrates the US Air Force’s groundbreaking and record-setting SR-71 Blackbird. The black PVD-plated stainless steel watch case and black steel bracelet both evoke the look and spirit of the legendary black reconnaissance jet, in a design that harkens back to the early 1960s.

The watch is water-resistant to 100 meters and features the Luminox Light Technology system of self-powered micro gas tubes, mounted on the hands and markers of the watches, which glow continuously for up to 25 years, so that the dial can always be read, even in low light or complete darkness.

Luminox launched its first SR-71 series in 2005 as a tribute to the legendary SR-71 Blackbird aircraft, an aeronautical triumph of the 1960s. The SR-71 was a groundbreaking supersonic strategic reconnaissance jet, capable of Mach 3.2. It set numerous altitude and speed records that remain unsurpassed, even today more than 50 years later! Lockheed’s SR-71 flew U.S. Air Force and NASA missions between 1966 and 1998, when it was permanently retired. Because of its innovative titanium composite skin (the first used in aviation), and its black color, it was nicknamed “Blackbird.”

Luminox RECON Leader Chronograph 8840 Series

Luminox introduces the Leader, a new chronograph alarm model in the successful RECON series. The watches in the RECON Series each bear the title of a Reconnaissance team member and have features specific to their roles in a RECON operation. The team leader coordinates, conducts and makes important decisions whenever required. He is in charge of successfully accomplishing the mission. Leadership qualities, such as determination, flexibility, a sense of calm, and the ability to quickly analyze a situation and make the right decision at the right moment are critical to being a RECON leader, and the key figure of a RECON team.

The RECON Leader has an alarm function as leaders (military or business) have deadlines to take into consideration and, when every second counts, the watch has a chrono function to enable split second timing. The World Time City Zones Bezel, also enables the leader to coordinate operations in different time zones.

All RECON models feature an easy to read walking speed tachymeter, either in kilometers (8841.KM) or miles (8842.MI) per hour, a contrast-color countdown quadrant of the dial that can be used to coordinate start times for manoeuvres, and a bezel compass rose to help establish the wearer’s position.

The watch strap features three common map scales which can be used to measure distances on maps without the need for calculations and an inch/cm measurement and comparison chart.

RECON Series watches are packaged in military-style MOLLE (MOdular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment) units that double as sunglass cases.

Designed in collaboration with former Swiss Army Military Security NCO Andrea Micheli, an internationally recognized law enforcement and military journalist and shooting instructor, the Swiss-made RECON Leader watch addresses the needs of military personnel for analog watches that can also be used as a simple and efficient navigation tool for orienteering, and other outdoor activities of civil consumers.

Luminox Tony Kanaan Ultra-Light PC Carbon Chronograph 1100 series

Luminox introduces the all new Tony Kanaan Ultra-Light PC Carbon Chronograph 1100 series in association with Indy 500 Champion, Tony Kanaan.

Following the enormous success of the four Limited Edition Tony Kanaan quartz chronograph series, the 1100 series makes TK’s signature watch series available to a wider audience. Featuring TK’s iconic asymmetrical black case, these ultra-light but strong carbon reinforced polycarbonate racing chronos are more colourful than past models with green and yellow evoking his Brazilian heritage.  The 1101 has a black dial with green hands and yellow numbers, and the 1105 has a yellow dial with black hands.

The Swiss Made watches are water-resistant to 200 meters and features Luminox Light Technology, a proprietary system of self-powered micro gas tubes, mounted on the hands and markers of the watches that glow continuously for up to 25 years, so that the dial can always be read, even in low light conditions.

Tony Kanaan started racing go-karts in his native Brazil at the age of 8, later making his way to Europe and then to the US where he established his racing career. In 2004 Tony claimed the IndyCar title, completing every single of the 3,305 laps of that season, making him the first IndyCar Series driver to achieve such a feat. In his third season with KV Racing Technology, Kanaan won the most important title of his career, the 2013 Indianapolis 500, and broke the IZOD IndyCar Series record for consecutive starts with 212.

Kanaan is a workout buff and an amateur triathlete. He often competes in Half-Ironman races and in 2011 he trained during his regular IndyCar season and, in between races, competed in the Ford Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii. Kanaan speaks four languages, English, Portuguese, Italian and Spanish and lists Ayrton Senna and Alex Zanardi as his racing idols. As of 2014 Kanaan is driving Car #10 for Target Chip Ganassi Racing.

LUMINOX SXC GMT Space Series – The First Series of Wristwatches Designed for the SXC (Space Expedition Corporation) Space Project

Luminox, the original self-powered luminous watch brand, is the watch of choice for U.S. Navy SEALs, F-117 NighthawkTM Stealth jet pilots and other elite forces. Now Luminox announces the SXC GMT Space Series. The first series designed for the SXC (Space Expedition Corporation) Space Project, these GMT watches in PC Carbon (carbon reinforced polycarbonate) or Stainless Steel are suitable for adventurers on Earth and in space.

When SXC wanted to create a line of signature watches made for space they partnered with Luminox. Trusted and requested by elite forces around the globe, Luminox has earned a reputation for toughness, durability and visibility in all light conditions, making it the perfect space timepiece. Designed with input from test pilots and astronauts, the Space watches are lightweight, durable and feature the Luminox Light Technology self-powered illumination system.

As a key partner in the space project of SXC, Luminox is committed to making passenger space flights possible. The Luminox Space watches will be worn by both the SXC astronauts and passengers.

Initial test flights within the atmosphere are being carried out in the Mojave Desert, a hotbed for this new reusable rocket technology, and the same area where Chuck Yaeger and other aviators pioneered breaking the sound barrier decades ago, as depicted in the movie The Right Stuff. Training sessions and tests for passenger flights are currently under way. The first commercial flights are planned for 2014/2015 and will depart from the Curaçao spaceport in the Caribbean. For $100,000 USD passengers will be able to enjoy a unique view of the earth from 103 kilometers.

The SXC’s XCOR Lynx II spacecraft is unlike any other spacecraft previously developed. It is equipped with an independent take-off and landing system, enabling it to depart from a runway using rocket power and land like a plane after its flight. The entire flight takes a little more than an hour and there is only one passenger per flight, seated next to the pilot, making the experience even more exceptional.

Seeing Earth from space has been described as a life-changing experience. In space there will be total silence and complete darkness, except for the 24/7 glow of Luminox timepieces.

Luminox P-38 Lightning Series

Featuring aircraft-inspired details, the watches of the Luminox AIR series pay tribute to some of the most remarkable strategic aircraft in aviation history. Now two new Luminox timepieces, created under official and exclusive worldwide license with Lockheed Martin, introduce vintage–inspired models to the Luminox collection.

The P-38 Lightning TM had a unique and compelling design and the watches pay homage to this industrial pre-war design with their cushion shaped stainless steel case, and dial font pulled directly from the instruments in the plane cockpit. The P-38 is available in Day/Date or Chronograph movements. The Day/Date model has a secondary hour hand that can be set to a second time zone (or to GMT time), while the primary hour hand is set to local time, enabling the wearer to track two time zones.

Nicknamed the “fork-tailed devil” by the Luftwaffe and “two planes, one pilot” by the Japanese, its versatility and ruggedness during WWII were legendary. It could sink a ship, strafe enemies on the ground, cripple tanks, and shoot down fighters and bombers.

Luminox RECON NAV SPC (Navigation Specialist)

Luminox introduces the NAV SPC (Navigation Specialist) a new model in the successful RECON series. The watches in the RECON Series each bear the title of a Reconnaissance team member and have features specific to their roles in a RECON operation. The Navigation Specialist is the person responsible for keeping the patrol on the designated route until the target is reached, keeping on track with the use of a map, a compass, and GPS. They are highly adept at navigation – always oriented to the target.

The new NAV SPC models 8831 (KM) and 8832 (M) have a larger dial and a 46mm case. The dial incorporates an easy to read walking speed tachymeter, a unique feature of the RECON series and a novelty for watches, either in kilometer (8831) or miles (8832) per hour. As Special Forces soldiers often work in different time zones, this Luminox model employs a movement with a GMT function enabling the wearer to set a second time zone.

In order to facilitate navigation with a map, the newly designed watch strap features three common map scales which can be used to measure distances on maps without the need for calculations. The watch strap also features an inch/cm measurement and comparison chart and holds a removable compass as an orientation device.

The combination of a black carbon-reinforced polycarbonate case, ratcheting dive bezel with two-tone aluminum ring, and black dial has a very recognizable military look. The graduated turning bezel and the contrast-color countdown quadrant of the dial can be used to time maneuvers and the bezel’s compass rose helps to establish the wearer’s position. The anti-reflective sapphire crystal is scratch resistant and the watch is powered by an always reliable and precise Ronda Swiss quartz movement. RECON Series watches are packaged in military-style MOLLE (Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment) units that double as sunglass cases.

Designed in collaboration with former Swiss Army Military Security NCO Andrea Micheli, an internationally recognized law enforcement and military journalist and shooting instructor, the Swiss-made NAV SPC watch addresses the needs of military personnel for analog watches that can also be used as a simple and efficient navigation tool for orienteering, and other outdoor activities of civil consumers.

Luminox Blackout Craze : Original NAVY SEAL Series & Field Valjoux Automatic Chronograph

After the successful launch of Blackout models introduced over the past two years, Luminox is introducing one blackout model within several different series. Firstly the brand releases the Blackout version of its Original Navy SEAL watch. Luminox is also offering a top end Blackout Field Valjoux Automatic Chronograph series too. Luminox has gradually moved upstream with many new series that retail from $1000 to $2500, created to offer product more ideally suited for its fastest growing market segment – jewelry stores.

Luminox – maker of the world’s most luminous timepieces thanks to the proprietary Luminox Light Technology (LLT) utilized in them – is proud to introduce the all-black BlackOut series of timepieces – ideal ESSENTIAL GEAR for professionals and athletes. Luminox watches are known to be Always Visible and always glow, so the notion of going dark would seem to be contrary, but not to worry, the watches still glow continuously for up to 25 years, this time in a new blue color on the hands and hour markers for night viewing. The LLT-micro gas lights are glowing in blue – Blue by Night.

The look of the watches is completely blacked out, but telling time is still easy thanks to a tone-on-tone look achieved with a jet black dial and dark charcoal numbers and markings. The Original SEAL model is of course water resistant to 200 meters while the Field Valjoux Automatic Chronograph is capable of 100 meters and, like all Luminox watches, Swiss made.

The Colormark 3057.WO is Swiss Made and features Luminox Light Technology (LLT), a dial illumination system that glows for up to 25 years, regardless of exposure to light, so that the watch is always visible—whether in blackout or whiteout conditions.

This year, Luminox introduces Steel Colormark Chronograph 3180 Series, a brand new line of rugged watches cased in steel. A timepiece built for extreme adventure, this new series brings chronograph functionality to the steel color mark.

The addition of chronograph models represents a natural evolution of the Steel Colormark Series. The muscular 44-mm stainless steel case is designed to stand up to extreme conditions. Its unidirectional ratcheting bezel and highly scratch-resistant tempered mineral glass crystal protect the chronograph dial, which displays elapsed time up to 12 hours.

Its color-coordinated numerals, bezel markings and hands are earmarks of the Luminox Colormark line. The series has a screw-down crown and caseback ensuring water resistance to 200 meters and is available on a solid-link stainless steel bracelet or a signature polyurethane strap featuring the Luminox shield.

Like all Luminox watches, the watches of the Steel Colormark Chronograph Series are Swiss Made and feature Luminox Light Technology (LLT), a dial illumination system that glows for up to 25 years, regardless of conditions, so that the watch is always visible. And the watch is water-resistant to 200 meters.

Luminox Atacama Field Series with Heavy Duty Steel Bracelet

The Atacama field series, named after the Chilean Atacama region, one of the driest areas in the entire world, was the inspiration for the launch of Luminox’s Field series. Introduced in 2010, newly added to this series of Field timepieces is yet another extension to the series.

Two new offerings take the gun metal look to a new level by adding gun metal PVD plated bracelets to match their cases. The newest pieces, a day-date model (1824) and a chronograph alarm model (1844) round out the collection and add a more rugged sophistication. These two new extensions offer rugged durability that can withstand the most challenging conditions.

Both versions have 42mm case size and brilliant sunray blue dials with gray markings that match their gun metal plated bracelets. All the Atacama timepieces use the Colormark concept that has performed so well in other Luminox models. The Chrono Alarm models feature the innovative and proprietary highly audible sound box construction for which Luminox is renowned. Water resistance ratings are 200 meters for the day-date model and 100 meters for the chronograph model.

Luminox has yet again breathed new life into a very traditional Field watch category. The new Atacama field gun metal plated bracelet gives the once rugged looking watch a very sleek and everyday feel without loosing its original functionality.

Luminox Steel Colormark 38mm

The new Luminox Steel Colormark 38mm watch is dedicated women who enjoy an active lifestyle. For Spring 2011, Luminox extends its line of tough yet elegant watches for women with the Steel Colormark 38mm Series 7250, a feminine interpretation of the popular Colormark series. The six watches in the collection combine beautiful satin-finished steel surfaces with refined details such as mother-of-pearl dials and attractive pink or blue numerals echoed by the contrast stitching of the black leather straps.

They also exhibit all the hallmarks of the Luminox line: Swiss-made mechanisms for perfect functionality, strong materials and solid construction that stand up to everyday knocks, outstanding 200-meter water-resistance ratings, and proprietary Luminox Light Technology (LLT), which glows constantly for up to 25 years to illuminate the essential elements of the display and provide reliable legibility in low-light conditions.

LLT employs micro gas lights mounted on the watch hands, at each hour on the dial, and on the bezel. The system is self-powered and never needs to be “charged” the way typical photoluminescent compounds do. An LLT dial conquers the darkness so its owner can always read the time. The Steel Colormark 38mm will look stylish day or night and glows continuously.

It is controlled by lever-style blackened titanium start/stop and reset pushers.

Chronograph times are displayed via a central seconds hand, concentric minutes and hours totalizers in a subdial at 9 o’clock, and a 1/10-second subdial at 6 o’clock. Added to this is an easy-to-read big date display and day of the week indication. The dial is surrounded by the tachymeter and slide rule bezel.

An antireflective sapphire crystal covers the dial. The caseback depicts the F-22 Raptor aircraft. The watch comes on either a solid link titanium bracelet or a leather strap with red contrast stripe detail.
