LOUIS MOINET MAYA ECLIPSE

Swiss luxury watch atelier LOUIS MOINET has launched MAYA ECLIPSE, an extremely symbolic wristwatch that pays tribute to the charismatic Maya peoples and the rich history of Mexico. This unique and extraordinary piece was presented for the first time at SIAR (Salón Internacional Alta Relojería) in Mexico, from 18th to 20th October 2022.

The MAYA ECLIPSE watch evokes the mesmeric cosmic phenomenon named eclipse. It showcases the extravagant encounter between the moon and the sun 18 times per hour, with the magical axis of the Kukulcán Pyramid serving as its centre point.

Mayan society and culture drew an important association between astronomy, the vision of the Cosmos, religion and politics. Brilliant mathematicians and architects, the Mayans were also fervent observers of the stars and other celestial phenomena.

They used their observations to create various calendars, some of which were highly complex and extremely accurate. They used these to measure time, enabling them to determine the phases of the moon and the position of the sun during eclipses, solstices and equinoxes.

This unique creation combines striking elements of Mayan culture with the watchmaking expertise of Ateliers Louis Moinet. The concept was developed by the young jewellery artist, Nathanaël Schaller, national winner of the French Prix des Métiersd’Art in 2020.

Pyramidal architecture features in the shape of the watch’s mysterious and complex movement, whose stepped construction projects from the centre. This movement has two satellite tourbillons that rotate in opposite directions, with their counterweights representing a moon and a sun inspired by Mayan symbols.

They cross and overlap 18 times per hour, i.e. 432 times per day, with each meeting producing a striking and poetic eclipse, from where the timepiece gets its legendary name: MAYA ECLIPSE.

At the top of the movement’s mechanical axis sits a fragment of jade. Its position at the top of the pyramid is symbolic, since jade was considered more precious than gold by the Mayans, who used it to make various artefacts to feature in their rites and ceremonies.

The back of the dial is made from coloured mother-of-pearl, an exquisite and ethereal material which reminds us that the Kukulcán Pyramid is built over a cenote. Cenotes are natural pits primarily found in North and Central America. Usually filled with fresh water (though sometimes with sea water), they were considered sacred by the Mayans. The transparent flange features hour-markers with Mayan numerals made up of lines and dots. These graphical elements make for easy time reading.

The pyramid is made from 18k 5N rose gold and is adorned with guilloché geometric patterns that play with light and shade to stunning effect. This recalls the phenomenon that occurs at the Kukulcán Pyramid itself during equinoxes: the sun strikes the north-west corner of the pyramid, creating the illusion that the serpent is descending the steps of the pyramid.

The LOUIS MOINET MAYA ECLIPSE watch depicts the Kukulcán Pyramid seen from the above, with its nine levels and four staircases.

Louis Moinet Mars Mission Limited Edition

Louis Moinet Mars Mission’s timepiece aims to combine the visionary talent of the inventor of the chronograph and high frequency with contemporary architectural work.

The dial pays tribute to the first detailed photos of Mars taken in 1965 by the first Mars flyby probe: Mariner 4. The engraving results from hand-crafted hammering creating pleasing contrasts on the surface of the planet. The finish features two light and dark tones resulting from a light black patina achieved after the dial was copper-plated.

It has an opening between 8 o’clock and 12 o’clock, revealing each beat of its exclusive calibre including the escapement operating at a rate of 28,800 vibrations/hour, as well as the off-centre seconds hand.

Louis Moinet offers exclusive real fragments of Mars. This is an extremely rare and precious material, as only 277 Martian meteorites are known to exist worldwide.

After being torn from the Martian crust probably millions of years ago, this meteorite drifted through interplanetary space, travelling millions of kilometres, before finally being captured by the Earth’s gravity and landing in the Jiddat al Harasis Desert in Oman.

It has now been transformed into an objet d’art, sculpted by the expert hands of Daniel Haas and suspended above the void, protected by an anodised aluminium capsule with a shiny black base to make the red planet stand out.

Representing an essential stylistic element in this creation, the hour-markers involve an extremely sophisticated manufacture process. Each features three variously shaped facets designed to make the light dance over them. The flank features a diamond and satin-finished part to endow the dial with a deep radiance. The colour contrast is accentuated by its black PVD base and the lacquer in its centre.

The real accomplishment was to keep them suspended above the void, with the clear intention of creating a strong perspective. This virtuoso craftsmanship enables them to be linked to a central ring and to the inner bezel ring.

The finishing of the movement is based on the noble traditions of fine watchmaking: Côtes de Genève, diamond-polished chamfers, circular satin-finished wheels, circular graining.

The sapphire caseback reveals the movements of the rotor mounted on ball bearings. The Clous de Parismotif dear to Louis Moinet in the 19th century has been reinterpreted in a concentric version, giving an impression of movement.

The Mars Mission case has been christened Neo, as its novel technical solutions have created a silhouette that is unprecedented in watchmaking. Everything is built around two vertical bridges that cross the piece to accommodate the strap at each end of their openworked lugs. These bridges enclose the movement container, which is dominated by the six-screw bezel, one of Louis Moinet’s trademarks.

Its alligator leather strap is secured by a folding clasp adorned with the curved Fleur de Lys, the symbol of Louis Moinet.

Louis Moinet ONLY INDIA

Swiss luxury watch brand Louis Moinet presents ONLY INDIA, a one-of-a-kind creation representative of Indian culture. It notably features a unique Martian meteorite, Shergotty, which fell to Earth on 25 August 1865 near Sherghati, in the state of Bihar, India.

The shergotty meteorite is now kept in a London Museum. It represents one of the three categories of Martian meteorite: Shergotty, Nakhla and Chassigny. It is also extremely rare, as among the world’s 72,000 classified meteorites, less than 300 are from Mars, of which 200 come under the Shergotty name.

The dial base is made from a real peacock feather, giving it a natural iridescent effect. The peacock is the national bird of India.

The hand-engraved applique represents 20 spokes of the eternal wheel of the law of Dharma, embodied by the Ashoka chakra found on the Indian flag. The sense of movement suggested by the wheel is highlighted by the micro-painting delicately applied to the different spokes and in the centre of the engraving.

The decoration is inspired by motifs representing the grandeur of India. The lugs are accentuated by four rubies lighting up the engraving.

ONLY INDIA is fitted with the legendary LM-35 movement, winner of the latest International Chronometry Competition. The elegant dial offers a view of the tourbillon’s rotating cage. Inside, the balance spring, anchor and anchor wheel perform a full rotation every minute.

Louis Moinet Super Moon Limited Edition

Drawing inspiration from a rare lunar phenomenon known as Super Moon, independent Swiss luxury watch brand Louis Moinet has launched a limited edition collection.

Louis Moinet’s Super Moon watch combines the visionary talent of the inventor of the chronograph and high frequency with contemporary architectural work. It is a limited edition of 100 pieces.

A Super Moon is a full or new moon corresponding to the moment when the orbit of this satellite is closest (perigee) to Earth.

The dial depicts the first extra-terrestrial view of the Moon, as provided by Apollo 8 in 1968. The engraving results from hand-crafted hammering creating pleasing contrasts on the lunar surface. The finish features two light and dark tones resulting from light brushing performed after nickel-plating the dial.

It has an opening between 8 o’clock and 12 o’clock, revealing each beat of its exclusive calibre including the escapement operating at a rate of 28,800 vibrations/hour, as well as the off-centre seconds hand.

With this exclusive watch, Louis Moinet offers exclusive real fragments of the Moon. This is an extremely rare and precious material, as only 371 lunar meteorites are known to exist worldwide. This meteorite travelled more than 400,000 kilometres through intersidereal space before being captured by Earth’s gravity and landing in the Dhofar Desert in Oman.

The Lunar meteorite has now been transformed into an objet d’art, sculpted by the expert hands of Daniel Haas and suspended above the void, protected by an anodised aluminium capsule with a shiny black base to strike a contrast with the night star.

Each hour-marker features three variously shaped facets designed to make the light dance over them.

Louis Moinet MEMORIS SPIRIT

MEMORIS SPIRIT is a moderately sized watch based on the 46mm Louis Moinet MEMORIS chronograph.

This new timepiece unites ergonomics, the quest for beauty, the assurance of wearer comfort and functionality. MEMORIS SPIRIT’s 40mm case was created in association with famous Swiss watch designer Fabrice Gonet and case-making artisan Bertrand Crevoisier. Even though the case is smaller, its construction enables enhanced visual appreciation of the emblematic chronograph mechanism.

The aerodynamic treatment of the Louis Moinet MEMORIS SPIRIT lines began with the integration of a new, more fluid crown support. The sides feature an updated look notably including open-worked lugs featuring a subtly satin-brushed curve on top that accentuates the smooth integration of the strap.

The convex two-part dial with its legible markings features a sunburst chronograph plate lighting up the chronograph mechanism, while the glare-proofed sapphire crystals are domed on either side so to as to slim down the silhouette and guarantee optimal ergonomics.

The case is made of grade 5 titanium, which weighs only 18 grams. The strap is specially designed to be integrated into the case and to promote maximum comfort. The slender appearance is underlined by aerodynamic counters emerging from the mechanism.

The splendid magic of the chronograph is fully visible on the dial side. The design of this enchanting mechanism is inspired by the world’s first chronograph produced by Louis Moinet in 1816, inventor of the chronograph.

One gentle push on the single pusher and a unique choreography unfolds before your eyes. The different elements – levers, clutch, hammers, column wheel, springs and wheels – are set into motion and interact with the ultimate goal of activating the chronograph and measuring time.

The modern and spectacular design of the MEMORIS SPIRIT requires the production of 147 components for the upper part dedicated to the chronograph and 164 components for the lower part corresponding to the self-winding movement.

Louis Moinet Tempograph Spirit

Louis Moinet’s TEMPOGRAPH SPIRIT watch comes with an exclusive 20-second retrograde mechanism. The large central retrograde hand dominates the dial. Its running 20-second sequences are displayed on a dedicated segment, creating a unique animation.

The next animation comes at 9 o’clock, where a counter with a red, black and blue gradient marks the three 20-second sequences composing each minute. The watch has an hours & minutes sub-dial at 4 o’clock.

Clearly dictated by the decision to highlight a dominant visual concept, TEMPOGRAPH SPIRIT presents two distinct graphic zones. The right-hand side is devoted to time indications, with its twenty-second retrograde hand and hours & minutes subdial.

The left-hand side displays the mechanism required to drive this watchmaking creation. In particular, the spectacular interaction between the cam and the jewel-tipped rack is clearly visible.

The raised, rhodium-plated, chamfered and snailed bridges bear a retrograde reading zone rising towards a curved anti-reflective sapphire crystal. These bridges make it possible to play with space and reveal three different reading levels. The power of the mechanism is revealed in a new light.

Although the diameter of TEMPOGRAPH SPIRIT is only 40 mm, it enables better visual appreciation of the mechanism. This is due on the one hand to the design of the upper bridges, the retrograde zone and the hours dial, all of which emerge from the mechanism to bring it closer to the gaze.

The anti-reflective sapphire crystal is designed to complete the show by enabling technical details to be admired from the front as well as from the side, while at the same time slimming down the silhouette and guaranteeing optimal ergonomics.

The care devoted to the aerodynamic treatment of the TEMPOGRAPH SPIRIT’s design began with the integration of a new, more fluid crown guard. The flanks have been given a facelift, with open-worked lugs topped by a subtle satin-finish camber accentuating the integration of the bracelet.

The lugs are tipped with Louis Moinet’s emblematic signature, four black zircons featuring chatons held by screws. The case is made of grade 5 titanium which weighs only 18 grams, or of 18-carat gold. The bracelet is perfectly integrated to ensure maximum comfort.

Designed and developed by Ateliers Louis Moinet, the LM85 calibre comprises over 250 components. Its single-piece construction forgoes the use of an additional module for the complication, which is therefore fully integrated so as to demonstrate the full force of its mechanical beauty. This self-winding movement offers 48-hour power reserve.

Through the caseback, TEMPOGRAPH SPIRIT reveals circular Côtes de Genève, diamond-polished recesses and circular satin-brushed gears with a 5N-coloured finish. The rotor features a reinterpreted version of the Clous de Paris hobnail pattern, with a concentric decoration that lights up the entire timepiece.

LOUIS MOINET TIME TO RACE

Swiss luxury watch brand Louis Moinet presents TIME TO RACE, a series of mechanical chronographs embodying the beauty of motorsports.

TIME TO RACE is not a limited series, but a set of one-of-a-kind creation. Collectors will indeed be able to personalise their model by selecting a one or two-digit “lucky number” that will appear on the front of the timepiece, along with a dedicated colour code: Rosso Corsa, Racing Green or French blue.

These colours have been specifically selected because they embody the most legendary cars in motorsports. To ensure clearer vehicle identification, national colours were assigned in motor racing until the end of the 1960s. This tradition remains present today in the collective imagination, as the tradition has endured. Thus, a red car brings to mind Italy, a green one England and a blue one France…

The aerodynamic quest embodied in the design of TIME TO RACE has defined a style reflecting a resolutely competitive spirit.

Its glare-proofed sapphire crystal features an imposing curvature serving to enable uncompromising appreciation of the column-wheel mechanism. This ingenious and original design has given rise to a new type of inner bezel ring, dissociated from the crystal. It also makes it possible to combine two different readings of short-time measurements: a tachymeter scale and a 60-second display.

The creation of this bi-material inner bezel ring is complex and owes its brilliance to the intensity of the colour present in its first quarter, made from an avant-garde material. Its bold character is further emphasised by a luminous transfer of the measurement indications designed to enable readability in the dark.

Finally, the inner bezel ring frames a woven carbon fibre mainplate highlighting the 147 components of the chronograph mechanism. It also provides the reading contrast that is so useful during chronograph operations, indicated by the large coloured hand and one of the two smoke-coloured counters.

The hours and minutes are read off a subdial at 6 o’clock. This central design element bears the wearer’s “Lucky Number”, painted in black on a white background with a glossy polished finish, and surrounded by a metal ring reminiscent of the bores used in racing cars.

Its case weighs only 18 grams, cut from grade 5 titanium, then polished and satin-brushed. It evokes the quest for minimum weight that means more comfort and a more seamless fit on the wrist, further enhanced by a strap specially designed to be a perfect extension of the case.

The lines of the case are fluid and taut. The sides feature a new crown base. The lugs are open-worked and feature a subtle satin-brushed camber that highlights the integration of the bracelet. They are tipped with the emblematic Louis Moinet signature in the shape of four black zircons with chatons held by screws.

One smooth press on the single pusher activates the chronograph mechanism and its unique choreography can be admired on the dial side. The various elements – levers, clutch, hammers, column wheel, springs and wheels – are set into motion and interact with the ultimate goal of activating the chronograph and measuring time.

The modern and spectacular design of TIME TO RACE requires the production of 147 components for the upper part dedicated to the chronograph and 155 components for the lower part corresponding to the self-winding movement.

The design of TIME TO RACE is inspired by the world’s first chronograph produced by Louis Moinet in 1816, inventor of the chronograph and high frequency (Guinness World Records™).

Louis Moinet MEMORIS YUCATAN

MEMORIS YUCATAN is inspired by the world’s first chronograph produced by Louis Moinet in 1816, inventor of the chronograph and of high frequency (Guinness World Records™).

This creation finds unique expression thanks to YUCATAN GREEN, an original colour that owes its vibrancy to a clever combination of sunburst satin-brushing, special-coloured varnish, as well as silvering to enhance its brilliance. It houses Calibre LM86, a spectacular and innovative self-winding mechanical movement, displaying the 147 elements of the chronograph function on the dial side.

Every detail of MEMORIS YUCATAN evokes sportiness, elegance and exclusivity based on a unique mechanism stemming from the most advanced research. The curved crystal of the MEMORIS YUCATAN reveals the spectacular and unprecedented design of the chronograph. The traditional mechanism has been entirely separated, with the chronograph device visible on the front and automatic winding on the back.

Unique to Louis Moinet, this vision enables the complexity of this measuring mechanism to be fully admired at each interaction: start, stop, reset. A single gentle press on the single pusher allows an amazing sight to unfold before your eyes. More than 500 components had to be developed in order to achieve this incomparable feat.

The curved YUCATAN GREEN dial endows it with energy and vitality. Modernism is at the forefront, highlighted by revisited hands, new typography and the introduction of hour-markers. The bright red chronograph hands ensure perfect legibility. The black plate adorned with a Côtes de Genève motif helps highlight the powerful chronograph mechanism.

The care devoted to the aerodynamic treatment of the MEMORIS YUCATAN’s design has extended to the use of strongly domed crystals on the front and back of the watch. These serve to refine the silhouette while guaranteeing maximum ergonomics.

This sporty chronograph is housed in a very light titanium case (only 31 grams), which makes it especially comfortable to wear.

The handmade alligator leather strap features unusual colour and finishing combinations, such as the clean-cut and waxed green edges along with seams in green thread. Its extra-matt rubberised finish combined with a green alligator leather lining adds an exuberant touch.
