Laurent Ferrier Classic Origin Blue

LAURENT FERRIER has launched an intense blue version of one of its emblematic models, the Classic Origin.

Initially developed to pay tribute to all the aesthetic codes created by Mr Laurent Ferrier himself in 2010, the Classic Origin has succeeded in becoming an icon of the LF collection.

After the Classic Micro-Rotor, the Classic Traveller, the Square Micro-Rotor, the École Annual Calendar, the Grand Sport Tourbillon and the recent Sport Auto, it seemed self-evident to adorn the Classic Origin with a deep blue dial.

Laurent Ferrier Classic Origin Blue

The carefully selected intensity of blue on this new dial, along with the graphic lines borrowed from the Annual Calendar, give this latest reference a very modern and dynamic feel, similar to the previous Classic Origin Opaline and Classic Origin Green.

The opaline dial presents a gradation of blues that transition from a lighter shade in the centre to deepest blue around the periphery. The discreet powdery-grey hour track is punctuated by sky-blue numerals.

Laurent Ferrier Classic Origin Blue

The composition is finished off with a powdery-grey centre cross and four of the brand’s iconic drop-shaped indices. A snailed seconds counter at 6 o’clock features subtle sky-blue markers. Sweeping over the dial are LF’s famous Assegai-shaped hour and minute hands, in 18-carat white gold.

This intense blue dial sits within the brand’s timeless Classic case. The Grade 5 titanium 40 mm diameter case features the same harmonious contours as the very first LAURENT FERRIER creation, the Classic Tourbillon.

It also features the same emblematic ball-shaped crown whose gracious architecture is inspired by 19th-century pocket watches. Its original proportions and plump shape make winding a true pleasure.

Laurent Ferrier Classic Origin Blue

The manual-winding Calibre LF116.01 has been crafted with the greatest refinement. Visible through the sapphire case back, it incorporates a screw balance and Breguet-type overcoil balance-spring. This combination enhances precision and mitigates positional timekeeping errors while improving isochronism.

The brand’s famous long-blade ratchet system is another highlight of the movement. This polished, hand-crafted ratchet is emblematic of the LAURENT FERRIER brand, offering an inimitable sound during winding that is characteristic of the most demanding watches.

When the Classic Origin Blue is perfectly wound, it can operate independently for 80 hours thanks to its excellent power reserve.

Laurent Ferrier calibre LF116.01

While the Calibre LF116.01 may be more minimalist than some of the brand’s complication movements, it offers the same high-end finishes as every other LAURENT FERRIER creation.

The bridges are microbeaded, with black rhodium finish and entirely hand-polished edges. Each screw-head is mirror polished and the escapement bridge is adorned with a hand-made interior angle, reflecting the workshop’s meticulous attention to detail.

LAURENT FERRIER Sport Auto

In February 2022, independent luxury Swiss watch brand LAURENT FERRIER introduced Sport Auto, a new timepiece inspired by automobile racing.

Made of grade 5 titanium, the case of Sport Auto watch is both sporty and curvaceous. The 41.5 mm diameter case is topped with a contrasting bezel with softer lines, an evolution of the brand’s Square case, to the tonneau-shaped middle case with a very pronounced look.

LAURENT FERRIER Sport Auto watch

The finishes are different on each of its faces. The bezel displays a circular satin-brushed finish that contrasts with its mirror-polished flanks as well as with the vertical satin-brushed middle case.

The emblematic ball-shaped crown is, for the first time, screwed down and elegantly integrated into the middle case. Combined with water resistance tested to 120 metres, the crown guarantees maximum comfort for daily wear.

The domed sapphire crystal glass offers a clear view of a dial bringing together all the LAURENT FERRIER aesthetic codes. Its different shades of blue, combined with its opaline finish, give it a soft and powdery line. White gold drop-shaped hands and indexes illuminated by green Super-LumiNova add tone to the dial. At 6 o’clock, a snailed small seconds dial is enlivened with powdered grey markers.

LAURENT FERRIER Sport Auto

The grey minute track enhances the dial readability. The logo and the central cross also match this colour. A beveled date window underlined with a fine coordinated transfer is delicately positioned at 3 o’clock. As with the Tourbillon models, the “Sport Auto” movement indication, tone-on-tone transferred between the central hands and the small seconds, completes the composition.

This timepiece houses the Maison’s second automatic calendar movement, the LF270.01 calibre. As a subtle blend of a tribute to the micro-rotor with natural escapement and a more assertive and sporty style, this movement is entirely designed, decorated, assembled and adjusted in the LAURENT FERRIER workshops.

LAURENT FERRIER Sport Auto

Less sensitive than the natural escapement and more suited to sports watches, this is a Swiss lever escapement using an automatic winding system with an off-centre micro-rotor. For non-negligible benefits in terms of resistance to shocks and vibrations, this movement is fitted with a unidirectional ball bearing replacing the traditional ratchet system.

Like a balance wheel, the micro-rotor is equipped with a 950 platinum oscillating weight, placed directly between the plate and the bridge to ensure ideal stability and maximised winding power. Once fully wound, this calibre offers a power reserve of more than 72 hours.

LAURENT FERRIER Sport Auto

A sapphire crystal case back, fixed with specific screws, similar to those used in motorsport, reveals a movement with impeccable finishes and whose architecture takes up the main codes of the brand’s first automatic movement.

The bridge of the micro-rotor movement is meticulously decorated by hand: the angles are softened then finished with gentian wood or diamantine, while the surface is mirror-polished. In addition, the movement features several internal angles, multiple zinc-polished surfaces and numerous satin-finishing and circular-graining, all executed by hand in the LAURENT FERRIER workshops.

LAURENT FERRIER Sport Auto

For the first time in the history of LAURENT FERRIER, the micro-rotor is made here in 950 platinum to achieve a more contemporary contrast with the ruthenium-coated bridges featuring a horizontal satin finish.

The LAURENT FERRIER Sport Auto watch comes fitted on a fully integrated metal bracelet has been added to this case, also in grade 5titanium, which takes up the vertical satin finish enhanced by polished flanks. The inclined sides of the centre links are also polished.

LAURENT FERRIER Square Micro-Rotor Retro

Inspired by the designs of the 1930s, LAURENT FERRIER presents two Square Micro-Rotor Retro wristwatches that combine vintage Art Deco influences with modern styling.

LAURENT FERRIER Square Micro-Rotor Retro watches

Combined with a modern, architectural hour circle, the Arabic numerals on a finely finished dial provide a casual feel while offering exceptional readability. This new Square Micro-Rotor Retro’s 1930s influence can also be seen in the use of metallic colours.

LAURENT FERRIER Square Micro-Rotor Retro stainless steel watch

The first Square Micro-Rotor Retro version has a steel case paired with a delicate silvery white dial, whose opaline centre contrasts with a subtle circular satin-brushed exterior. Its decaled charcoal grey hour circle matches the numbers and small second markers, beautifully enhances the whole timepiece.

LAURENT FERRIER Square Micro-Rotor Retro watch in 18k red gold

The second variant offers a charcoal grey opaline dial with the same refined finishes, nestled in an 18K red gold case. The decals, on the other hand, are made in matte white to ensure optimum legibility.

LAURENT FERRIER Square Micro-Rotor Retro stainless steel version

The brand’s iconic Square case demonstrates its Art Deco character through its contours, symmetry, aerodynamic curves and complex lines. With its 41 x 41 mm case, it also embodies the Swiss Maison’s streamlined aesthetic.

LAURENT FERRIER Square Micro-Rotor Retro red gold version

The Square case of these new watches is bolder than the brand’s Classic case. It features a ball-shaped winding crown for easy handling. The detailed design down to the hooked case back allows you to admire the movement, visible at the back, free from all distraction. The watchmaker can access the movement via the olivette. Its water resistance is guaranteed to a depth of 30 metres.

LAURENT FERRIER Square Micro-Rotor Retro

These two new additions are equipped with the calibre FBN 229.01, a self-winding movement with a natural escapement Micro-Rotor. This escapement stands out with a unidirectional pawl-fitted micro-rotor and a three-day power reserve. This exclusive movement is designed, assembled and adjusted in the LAURENT FERRIER workshops.

LAURENT FERRIER Square Micro-Rotor Retro case back

The calibre FBN 229.01 is fitted with a silicon escapement featuring a double direct impulse on the balance. This innovation, developed by LAURENT FERRIER, enables the balance to be impelled twice per oscillation, which requires two escape wheels and an appropriately shaped lever.

This modern construction, combined with the use of cutting-edge materials, maximises energy efficiency. This escapement’s excellent performance thus guarantees the balance’s high amplitude. The mechanical force required to wind the barrel spring is reduced, thereby optimising winding of the movement.

Laurent Ferrier Square California Limited Edition

Swiss luxury watch brand Laurent Ferrier presents a Californian dial version of its iconic model, the Square Micro-Rotor.

The new limited edition watch features a distinctive dial configuration known as Californian, which has the particularity of mixing Roman numerals in its upper part with Arabic numerals in the lower part.

In addition to the mix of Roman and Arabic numerals, this new dial features a grey powdered decal at 12, 3 and 9 o’clock, reproducing the outlines of the brand’s famous drop-shaped hour markers, filled with white SuperLuminova. The blue dial is enhanced by a sunburst finish and overlaid with a white railway line.

Laurent Ferrier Square California Limited Edition

The watch has two 18k white gold stamped “arrow” shaped hands filled with white SuperLuminova for the hours and minutes. The snailed seconds dial is punctuated with a fine white decal and topped by a red-painted white gold “baton” shaped hand.

The bold square case is made of stainless steel, and measures 41mm x 41mm. This case is fitted with the ball-shaped winding crown, a true LAURENT FERRIER signature. As in most of the collection, the back is hooked. The movement is accessible to the watchmaker through the olivette. Its water-resistance is guaranteed to a depth of 30 meters.

The self-winding FBN 229.01 calibre of the watch is equipped with a unidirectional pawl-fitted micro-rotor. It offers three-day power reserve. This is the first exclusive in-house movement developed, assembled and adjusted in the Laurent Ferrier workshops. It is fitted with a silicon escapement featuring a double direct impulse on the balance.

This technology developed by Laurent Ferrier enables the balance to be impelled twice per oscillation, a principle that requires two escape-wheels and an appropriately shaped lever. This innovative construction, combined with the use of cutting-edge materials, maximises energy efficiency, thereby guaranteeing a high amplitude of the balance. This in turn reduces the amount of mechanical force required to wind the mainspring and optimises winding.

Laurent Ferrier Square California Limited Edition

For the finishes, LAURENT FERRIER draws its inspiration from centuries-old watchmaking traditions, such as Satin-finishing, polishing, chamfering, and circular graining. The Côtes de Genève motif is a reminder of the Canton and the city of Laurent Ferrier’s birth.

The specific bevelling applied to the engaging angles is a discipline to which LAURENT FERRIER devotes particular care. Although many manufacturers have abandoned this entirely manual technique, it remains the norm at LAURENT FERRIER workshop, where two specific movement decorators are responsible for this task, among other decorations.

This engraved “California Dreamin” serie is exclusively dedicated to the US market. Limited to 11 pieces only, they are each numbered from 0 to 10/10.

LAURENT FERRIER École Annual Calendar Navy Limited Edition

Swiss master watchmaker LAURENT FERRIER has revisited his École Annual Calendar and created a new version with an attractive blue and orange color theme.

This new creation is available in a limited edition of only ten pieces, each of them numbered and engraved as “Série Atelier II”. The École- case of this timepiece is inspired by a watch made by Laurent during his studies at Watchmaking School.

The two-zone blue dial features a contrasting vertical satin-brushed centre, and circular satin-brushed hour ring. The École Annual Calendar Navy offers a more contemporary and sporting appearance compared to earlier versions. Typically associated with aviation or the navy, vibrant orange here adorns the 18K white gold hands, providing the timepiece with optimal legibility and a compelling look.

LAURENT FERRIER École Annual Calendar Navy Limited Edition

The time is indicated with LF iconic hands stamped in “Assegais” shape. A snailed small seconds dial placed at 6 o’clock gives character to the composition, while two bevelled apertures, positioned at 12 o’clock, display the day and the month. Finally, the date is indicated by a hand coated in white accompanied by vintage-inspired numerals, on the edge of the dial. The whole offers the full array of information required for daily life while remaining uncluttered and with no unnecessary adornment.

LAURENT FERRIER École Annual Calendar Navy Limited Edition

This watch is equipped with an annual calendar complication, which recognises months with 30 and 31 days, progressing automatically to the 1st of the month as appropriate. Manual adjustment is required only once a year, on the 1st of March. The day display is easily set through a pusher on the left side of the case, at 10 o’clock. All the other settings are easily controlled by a pull of the crown and rotating it accordingly, with no need for any tools.

The École case also pays tribute to period pocket watches, from the time when pioneer watchmakers began transforming them into wristwatches. The “Série Atelier II” will be the last reissue of this case, since LAURENT FERRIER has decided to realign his collection by focusing on iconic cases: the Classic, the Square and the Grand Sport. As always, the “ball”-shaped crown, the emblematic signature of the Maison, offers all the ease of a smooth and very pleasant winding.

LAURENT FERRIER École Annual Calendar Navy Limited Edition

The calibre 126.01 is at the heart of the “Série Atelier II”. This hand-wound movement incorporates a Swiss lever escapement and offers a power reserve of up to 80 hours. The power reserve indicator is placed on the movement and visible on the caseback. The long-blade ratchet, characteristic of LAURENT FERRIER manual movements, here has a polished bassiné finish, handcrafted in the brand’s own workshops.

LAURENT FERRIER École Annual Calendar Navy Limited Edition

Admirable through the sapphire crystal caseback, various finishing details of the movement represent the pinnacle of traditional fine watchmaking. Each bridge is adorned with spotless Côtes de Genève decoration, and ruthenium plating. The plate is embellished with beading while the edges and inner edges are chamfered and then polished by hand, just like the screw heads.

The LAURENT FERRIER École Annual Calendar Navy watch is presented on a hand-sewn bracelet in orange or navy Nubuck leather with a navy Alcantara lining.

The “Série Atelier II” is a limited edition of only ten pieces, available exclusively from Atelier LAURENT FERRIER on their website.

Laurent Ferrier Tourbillon Grand Sport with Integrated Stainless Steel Bracelet

For the first time, Laurent Ferrier has equipped a watch with an integrated stainless steel bracelet. The central row of the 3-rows design is comprised of vertical satin finished links. The rounded edges of the links have a contrasting mirror-polish. The case back with sapphire crystal glass is secured with bolts inspired by those used in the racing cars.

The watch features an opaline dial which transitions from blue at its centre to black near its periphery. Both the hands and indexes feature orange Super-LumiNova, vitalising the overall composition. A snailed small seconds display resides above 6 o’clock. The tourbillon complication is only visible via the sapphire case back.

The high-end manual-winding tourbillon movement features a long-blade-type ratchet pawl system, delivering a reassuring click as the watch is wound. The Maison has furnished the movement with a horizontal satin-brushed finish and a ruthenium treatment, reinforcing the sporty character of the watch. The tourbillon carriage bridge is painstakingly decorated by hand. Furthermore, the movement features mirror polishing and 30 hand-crafted interior angles.

Laurent Ferrier Grand Sport Tourbillon Limited Edition

Geneva watchmaker Laurent Ferrier presents the Grand Sport Tourbillon, a contemporary styled wristwatch which upholds the company’s no-compromise approach to watchmaking. Housed in a sporty 44mm stainless steel case, this is the brand’s first model equipped with an integrated stainless steel bracelet. This new addition to Laurent Ferrier’s portfolio of models features a tourbillon, double balance spring and the firm’s legendary exalted finishing.

The stainless steel case of this timepiece predominantly features circular satin-finished elements. The bezel is cushion-shaped but encompasses contrasting mirror-polished flanks. The middle of the case has a barrel-shaped outline, yet, consistent with other Laurent Ferrier timepieces, every constituent of the case coalesces harmoniously.

Laurent Ferrier Grand Sport Tourbillon Limited Edition

For the first time, the Maison has equipped a watch with an integrated stainless steel bracelet. The central row of the 3-rows design is comprised of vertical satin finished links. The rounded edges of the links are presented in a contrasting mirror-polish. These details imbue the bracelet and case ensemble with a sumptuous appearance.

The present-day styling encompasses an opaline dial which transitions from blue at its centre to black near its periphery. Both the hands and indexes feature orange SuperLumiNova, vitalising the overall composition. A snailed small seconds display resides above 6 o’clock and sits beneath a gently arcing tinted sapphire crystal, granting a rounded appearance when viewed from the side.

Laurent Ferrier Grand Sport Tourbillon Limited Edition

In 2010, Laurent Ferrier won the ‘Best Men’s Watch Award’ at the Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix (GPHG) for its Classic Tourbillon. This watch was equipped with an ingenious hand-wound movement featuring a tourbillon and a double balance spring. The new Grand Sport Tourbillon is endowed with the same movement, albeit presented in a contemporary finish.

By equipping the balance with two reverse-fitted balance springs, the lateral displacement of the balance axis is also neutralised. The integration of both systems combines these respective benefits, conferring excellent precision. Indeed, this has been independently validated by the Besançon observatory, culminating in the award of chronometer certification.

Laurent Ferrier Grand Sport Tourbillon Limited Edition

The tourbillon, consistent with the discreet nature of the brand, is only visible via the sapphire case back, which, in turn, is secured with bolts akin to those used in motorsport. The movement features a long-blade-type ratchet pawl system, delivering a reassuring click as the watch is wound. Laurent Ferrier has embellished the movement with a horizontal satin-brushed finish and a ruthenium treatment, reinforcing the sporty character of the watch.

While the Grand Sport Tourbillon appears contemporary, it continues to uphold the traditions so dear to Laurent Ferrier. The tourbillon carriage bridge is painstakingly decorated by hand. Furthermore, the movement features mirror polishing and 30 handcrafted interior angles, details which are highly prized by aficionados.

Laurent Ferrier Grand Sport Tourbillon Limited Edition

Laurent Ferrier watches pay due consideration to the notion of tactility. This includes the feel of the crown when the watch is wound, the smooth unobtrusive crown guards sitting close to the wearer’s wrist and, most pertinently, the comfortable ergonomic relationship between the wearer and their Grand Sport Tourbillon.

The Grand Sport Tourbillon is limited to just 12 pieces.

LAURENT FERRIER TOURBILLON GRAND SPORT

Laurent Ferrier introduces a brand-new collection in an unexpected sporty style to celebrate 40 years since the brand’s founders raced together at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and 10 years since the conception of its very first tourbillon.

Laurent Ferrier is best known today as a master independent watchmaker, but rewind 40 years to the 1970s and his name was more likely to be seen on the roster of some of the most prestigious motor races. He competed in the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans seven times, coming first in the two-litre prototype category in 1977.

It was during this period that he met fellow driver and industrialist François Servanin. The two men shared a passion for both speed and mechanics which cemented their friendship and in 1979 they raced together behind the wheel of a Porsche 935T from the Kramer racing team, coming an overall third in the competition. Their performance was all the more remarkable considering that many of their competitors were professional Formula 1 drivers.

The two gentlemen’s love for mechanics never waned, leading them to form the Laurent Ferrier watch brand in 2009. Today they remember the beginning of their friendship and motor racing adventures with this brand-new limited edition Tourbillon Grand Sport that captures the spirit of 1970s motor racing.

LAURENT FERRIER  Tourbillon Grand Sport Numbered Edition

The Tourbillon Grand Sport catches the eye with its smoked taupe-coloured dial and orange luminescent hands and indexes that respect the brand’s love for elegance and finesse, while offering a sportier and more powerful design. The dial is protected by a spherical tinted sapphire crystal that softens the dial and provides a beautifully rounded profile when viewed from the side.

The 44mm stainless-steel case, with its cushion-shaped bezel against a slightly tonneau middle case, features all the design codes of a Laurent Ferrier timepiece with smooth rounded lines and a refined aesthetic, but it also presents a powerful new design with increased strength and character.

Like all of his creations, Laurent Ferrier designed the Tourbillon Grand Sport case for the wrist so that it would be extremely comfortable and a pleasure to wear throughout the day. Every aspect of the experience of wearing the watch has been considered, from the sensation of winding the crown in the morning, to checking the time while driving home at night. A closer look reveals refined crown guards, sporty bolts on the case back and highly polished parts next to satin finished elements that accentuate the attention to detail and exceptional workmanship that has gone into the fabrication of this unique case.

The year 2019 is not only the anniversary of the founders’ motor racing careers, it is also the 10th anniversary of the conception of the brand’s first tourbillon. It is for this reason that the Tourbillon Grand Sport features this highly-appreciated complication.

The tourbillon device created by Abraham-Louis Breguet in 1801 is fitted with a double balance spring. The two reversed-fitted balance-springs neutralise the lateral displacement of the balance axis, while the tourbillon compensates for the variations in rate in all vertical positions. Associating these two devices combines their advantages and ensures impressively high rating precision.

Laurent Ferrier has also developed its own escapement mechanism. In association with the tourbillon, with a specifically adapted construction and a rigorous choice of materials and manual adjustments, the regulating organ ensures excellent precision. The Tourbillon caliber is indeed chronometer-certified by the Besançon Observatory.

The mechanical hand-wound movement, entirely developed and produced within the Laurent Ferrier workshops, is fitted with a double balance-spring tourbillon crafted in the finest traditional manner. Visible exclusively through the sapphire caseback, the mechanism is not a mere aesthetic enhancement, but also discreetly serves its former functional purpose of guaranteeing the precision and reliability of the regulating system.

The calibre construction is inspired by the major 19th century chronometry models with their manual-winding system featuring a long-blade-type ratchet pawl system distinguished by the delicate mechanical clicking sound emitted during winding.

The movement has been given a horizontal satin-brushed finish with a ruthenium touch for a sportier allure and has been finished with extreme care, as evidenced by the manual decoration on the tourbillon carriage bridge. The design of the bridges is inspired by pocket-watches and the decoration is executed in keeping with the finest watchmaking traditions, including 30 hand-crafted interior angles.

The Tourbillon Grand Sport comes in a limited edition of 12 pieces, is water-resistant to 100 metres and is fitted with a taupe-coloured rubber strap with a new deployant buckle with three blades for additional ease and comfort on the wrist. Each edition will also come with a very special box including a commemorative plaque.

LAURENT FERRIER BRIDGE ONE

With the rectangular Bridge One, Laurent Ferrier marks the launch of a new caliber especially shaped for this new design but also marks the beginning of a new line inspired by the “Passerelle de l’Ile”, a very famous bridge in Geneva.

LAURENT FERRIER BRIDGE ONE

The middle case of the watch is inspired by the pure line of the bridge, hence its name Bridge One. For this industrial inspiration, Laurent Ferrier chose stainless steel as a material. The non-straight shape of the lugs are part of the magic of this new case, providing an interesting perspective on the overall timepiece but also offering a perfect fit on the wrist and consequently a great sense of comfort.

LAURENT FERRIER BRIDGE ONE

The traditional ball-shaped winding-crown facilitates handling. The originality of this exceptional case lies in the spherical sapphire. The sapphire is cut as if it was extracted from a dig crystal ball. Additionally, the smoked effect due to the hue on the glass provides a sense of uniqueness to the piece. Its water resistance is guaranteed to a depth of 30 metres.

LAURENT FERRIER BRIDGE ONE

Laurent Ferrier presented two special dials at SIHH 2019: An enamel Grand Feu white dial and slate grey enamelled roman numerals without sub-dial for a maximum readability, and a grained slate grey dial with a raised XII marker at 12 o’clock and a sub-dial for a textured feeling.

LAURENT FERRIER BRIDGE ONE

The 2 versions are swept over by “assegai-shaped” hour and minute hands, and a baton type seconds hand for the slate grey dial. The Bridge One is fitted with Honey Timberland leather or Honey alligator strap with Alcantara lining, secured by a pin buckle or a double blade folding clasp.

LAURENT FERRIER BRIDGE ONE

For this project, a new caliber needed to be designed to be housed in a rectangular case. The LF107.01 manual winding movement with a Swiss lever escapement offers an 80 hours power reserve. The bridges are beautifully shaped and the level of finishing is consistent with all the other calibers of Laurent Ferrier’s collection.

LAURENT FERRIER BRIDGE ONE

The sapphire crystal case-back of the Bridge One provides a fine view on the finesse of the finishing. In addition to the Côtes de Genève motif with a ruthenium treatment adorning the bridges and the circular-graining of the main-plate, the sides and interior angles are manually chamfered and the screw heads are polished.

Laurent Ferrier Galet Annual Calendar School Piece Opaline Black & White

In 2018, the Galet Annual Calendar Montre Ecole watch earned the award of GPHG in the Men’s Complication category. This distinction gave Laurent Ferrier the opportunity to offer a new line to this award-winner caliber. For this edition, Laurent Ferrier was inspired by the Black and White contrast and purity of the Chess Board. Two opaline dials complement the current collection.

Entirely designed in-house, the Galet Annual Calendar School Piece Opaline Black & White embodies all the values and spirit, Laurent Ferrier infuses in all his creations.

These timepieces were developed with the aim of ensuring extremely smooth handling, while also ensuring visual balance, readability and performance in all circumstances – all values dear to Laurent Ferrier. With its date and month fast-adjustment by simply turning the crown forward and backward, these timepieces offer a great experience to the wearer.

Laurent Ferrier Galet Annual Calendar School Piece Opaline Black & White

For its annual calendar complication, Laurent Ferrier decided to pay a tribute to its first manual winding movement: The tourbillon double hairspring. The new caliber features a long “blade” type click ratchet which became a distinctive signature. For the first time, Laurent Ferrier will introduce a “desert sand” 18K yellow gold version.

The Galet Annual Calendar School Piece Opalin Black & White displays the day of the week, the date and the month under consideration of months with 30 and 31 days, so the only adjustment required is once a year : on March the 1st. The date is clearly indicated by a central hand and the days of the week and the months in two beveled apertures. This display combines reading comfort and balanced beauty.

The user-friendliness was at the heart of the caliber design. Indeed all the adjustments are extremely easy to make. The days of the week are updated by simply pushing the “easy to grip” button delicately integrated on the left side of the case. All the other adjustments are made by pulling and turning the crown. No tool is required. The fast-adjustment of the date with the central hand can be made by turning the crown forward and backward, allowing the month to be automatically updated accordingly.

Laurent Ferrier Galet Annual Calendar School Piece Opaline Black & White

The Galet Annual Calendar School Piece Opalin Black & White houses a manual winding mechanical movement equipped with a power-reserve area indication positioned on the movement side. The power reserve is guaranteed for 80 hours.

The Galet Annual Calendar School Piece Opaline Black & White developed by Laurent Ferrier ensures smooth continuity in the watchmaking journey of the House. This same spirit of functionality, as well as readability and aesthetic appeal are already present in the other models from the brand.

With the School Piece case, Laurent Ferrier’s objective was to develop a case with the same roundness, as when those pioneering watchmakers converted pocket watches into wristwatches. For this new caliber, Laurent Ferrier entirely adapted the 40mm School Piece case to ensure perfect harmony and balance between the movement and the timepiece. The same straight, thin lugs offer another contrast of the modern and the traditional, the “pastille” end-piece decoration mirrored by the winding crown.

Laurent Ferrier Galet Annual Calendar School Piece White

The gold Assegai hands and baton-type seconds hand retain their characteristic shape. For black dials a red hand or for white dials a burgundy hand created for the date, brings modernity and visibility to the timepiece. The two beveled apertures for days and months ensure optimal readability. The date displayed all around the dial provides a view at one glance on all the relevant information. The dial comes in opaline black or white with vintage-inspired numerals painted in light blue and 31 in red for the dark dials or dark blue and burgundy for white dials.

Laurent Ferrier thereby once again proves its ability to find the perfect balance between a strongly identifiable neoclassical design on the one hand, user-friendliness on the other.

The sapphire crystal case-back of the Galet Annual Calendar School Piece Opaline Black & White provides a fine view of the finesse of the finishing. In addition to the Côtes de Genève motif with a ruthenium treatment adorning the bridges and the circular-graining of the mainplate, the sides and interior angles are manually chamfered and the screw heads are polished.

Laurent Ferrier has used a long “blade” type click ratchet, polished and with a curved shape that reminds the Galet Classic Tourbillon Double hairspring. The sub-dial at 6 o’clock has a circular satin brushed outer circle and a snailed finish in the center. A sunburst finish was chosen to decorate the power-reserve area indication.

The Galet Annual Calendar School Piece Opaline Black and White is fitted with honey alligator leather with Alcantara lining for white dials or matt grey Alligator leather with Alcantara lining for black dials.

Laurent Ferrier Galet Square Régulateur Black

For 2018, Laurent Ferrier launches the Régulateur in a 5N red gold square case with an opaline black nickel dial.

The combination of red and black is cherished by Laurent Ferrier and became a signature for its elegance, balance and legibility. Its visage is always classical, with the most important of the three indicators – the large, centrally-positioned hand – displaying the minutes. Above the centre, at 12 o’clock is the hours display, while below it, at 6 o’clock is the seconds subdial.

The movement is the LF Caliber 228.01, with automatic winding courtesy of a pawl-fitted micro-rotor, delivering a 72-hour power reserve.

Laurent Ferrier GALET SQUARE RÉGULATEUR BLACK

The 41mm red gold case is water resistant to 30m and is fitted with sapphire crystals for front and back, for a perfect view of the movement. Alongside the Côtes-de-Genève motif on the bridges and the circular graining on the mainplate, the wheel spokes are bevelled, the screw heads are chamfered and polished and the interior angles are hand-crafted.

For this new Laurent Ferrier Galet Square Régulateur Black, the brand decided to use the praised Square case. The dial is extremely clean and refined. Opaline black nickel has been chosen, with the hour and seconds counters recessed and contracted with a nickel black snailed finish.

The small hours dial bears powdered silver-toned Roman numerals, “railway track” ring with four Arabic numerals at 15, 30, 45 and 60 minutes. The hands for the three functions include a “leaf shaped” hand for the hours and “assegai-shaped” hand for the minutes and a baton-shaped hand for the seconds. All three hands are in red gold (5N).

The Galet Square Régulateur Black will be available from Laurent Ferrier agents from August.

Laurent Ferrier Galet Micro-Rotor “Montre Ecole” British Racing Green

This special Galet Micro-Rotor “Montre Ecole” British Racing Green watch was launched to mark Laurent Ferrier’s participation in the London Craft Week 2018, the event showcasing exceptional and innovative British and international craftsmanship.

The British racing green takes its name from the green international motor racing color of the United Kingdom used till the end of 60’s.

The dial is lacquered as cars used to be. The silver sub-dial reminds of car rims. The leather strap is inspired by the bonnet straps that were very common in the 60’s. The railroad and the hour markers are a nod to speedometer.

Laurent Ferrier Galet Micro Rotor “Montre Ecole” British Racing Green

For this very special timepiece, Laurent Ferrier chooses the “School Piece” case because it offers a wider view on this exclusive dial. On the movement side, the traditional Côte de Genève motif complements this elegant design.

The mechanical movement that powers this watch features three exclusive characteristics:-
• A micro-rotor pawl-fitted automatic winding system fixed between the main plate and the micro-rotor bridge
• A silicon escapement with double direct impulse on the balance
• A silent block shock protection system for the micro-rotor

The harmonious construction of this Caliber FBN 229.01 stems from the global approach envisaged for each of the movement parts, from development through to realization. Laurent Ferrier wanted to create a movement with a micro-rotor and a comfortable power reserve. To achieve this implied finding a system ensuring perfect winding in order to compensate for the lower inertia of a small oscillating weight. In fact a micro-rotor needs as twice as many rotations (300vs. 150) needed for one complete turn of the ratchet wheel.

This exclusive silicon escapement with double direct impulse on the balance is inspired by the father of modern horology, Abraham-Louis Breguet. This modern construction, associated with the use of cutting-edge materials, maximises the restitution of energy. The excellent efficiency of this escapement serves to reduce the torque required to wind the mainspring and hence optimises the movement winding.

Laurent Ferrier Galet Micro Rotor “Montre Ecole” British Racing Green

The exceptional finishing of the movement is crafted in the finest watchmaking traditions in Laurent Ferrier’s Geneva workshops. In addition to a Côte de Genève pattern on the bridges and the circular graining on the mainplate, the flanks are hand-drawn, the wheel spokes are bevelled, the screw heads are polished and the interior angles are hand-crafted.

The mirror polishing done by hand on the pawl, the balance-clock and the micro-rotor bridge, as well as the guilloché motif on the 18-carat solid gold micro-rotor, give this model an entirely distinctive radiance. The sapphire crystal case-back provides a glimpse of the finesse of this workmanship and reveals harmonious architecture stemming from a clever combination of lines and curves.

The Galet Micro-Rotor “Montre Ecole” British Racing Green is fitted with a dark brown leather strap. A pin buckle matching the colour of the case sets a refined finishing touch. The case-back is snap-fastened and can be removed by the watchmaker thanks to the olivette. Its water resistance is guaranteed to a depth of 30 meters.

LAURENT FERRIER GENEVE

LAURENT FERRIER GENEVE is a Swiss luxury watch brand founded by Laurent and Christian Ferrier who belong to an old family of Genevan watchmakers. Father and son perpetuate each in their own style a know-how in the “haute horlogerie” universe.

Laurent Ferrier
Born in Geneva in 1946, Laurent Ferrier completed a watchmaking degree at the Geneva Watchmaking School. After graduating, he was hired by Patek Philippe in the Prototyping Department where he became familiar with “haute horlogerie” movements.

Passionate about car racing, he interrupted his watchmaking career during a few years to work in the car components industry. As a talented racing car driver, he participated 7 times in the mythical “Le Mans 24 hours race”. In 1978, he won in the 2lt. prototype category and in 1979, he achieved a 3rd place overall, driving a Porsche 935T with his friend François Servanin.

In 1974, his passion for watchmaking motivated him to go back to Patek Philippe where he joined the Product Development Department. Started as an engineer, he became the Head of the Technical Department, reporting directly to the owner Mr Philippe Stern, with whom he developed products in purest horological tradition. In 2009, he decided to launch a high-end traditional watch brand together with his son Christian and his friend François Servanin. This was the beginning of LAURENT FERRIER GENEVE brand which launched officially at Baselworld 2010.

Christian Ferrier
Born in 1976 in Marseille, Christian Ferrier perpetuated the family tradition in the world of watchmaking and incarnates the future of LAURENT FERRIER GENEVE. His watchmaking education in the field of micromechanics gave him the opportunity to work in the aerospace industry. Thanks to this first professional experience, he joined Roger Dubuis manufacture where he deepened further his knowledge of watch movement development. In 2008, he was recruited by the two master watchmakers – Michel Navas and Enrico Barbasini. The founders of “La Fabrique du Temps”, a small atelier with an “haute couture” approach, gave him the opportunity to develop complicated movements for the most prestigious watch brands. And when his father decided to create his own watch, he logically turned to “La Fabrique du Temps”, initiating a fruitful collaboration.

Objectives

  • To come back to the great horological tradition, where only the man’s hand can change material into a piece of art.
  • To manufacture a very limited number of models.
  • To create accurate and reliable “chronometer” movements.
  • To design discreet and stylish watch cases made to last.

LAURENT FERRIER GENEVE
LAURENT FERRIER GENEVE approach is based on traditional values of craftsmanship, yet oriented towards the future. The development of the first exclusive LAURENT FERRIER GENEVE movement, the “Tourbillon Double Balance Spring”, was the result of a creative collective approach with “La Fabrique du Temps”. The conception and development of the movement and external parts were executed thanks to modern technologies yet respecting at the same time the codes of traditional “haute horlogerie”. This first timepiece takes its inspiration from great chronometer competition watches, emphasizing on discretion, quality and precision. The “Galet Classic Tourbillon Double Spiral” initiates a tradition both innovative and based on centuries old know-how.

Laurent Ferrier stands for 40 years of experience in the field of Haute Horlogerie and at last the fulfilment of a watchmaking dream: that of creating timepieces equipped with exclusive movements, decorated and assembled in harmony with the rules of the watchmaking art in the Ateliers LAURENT FERRIER.

When Laurent Ferrier decided to venture into the realm of independent horology, his desire was to take time to do things properly. Watchmakers do indeed traditionally take the appropriate amount of time to polish a component until the result is perfect.

Laurent Ferrier wants to give his team this freedom in order to ensure that the resulting timepieces reflect watchmaking know-how as well as the corresponding attitude. Each movement has been thought out right down to the finest details in order to find its way through time and generations and thereby testify to skills that are more than 200 years old. Laurent Ferrier likes to think that a 22nd century watchmaker will appreciate such workmanship and such respect for horological values and fundamentals. This demand for quality in all aspects, from development through to assembly is reflected in each model emerging from the ATELIERS LAURENT FERRIER.

LAURENT FERRIER offers a genuine alternative for devotees of Fine Watchmaking. With their pure lines, LAURENT FERRIER creations respect the rules of balance and harmony. But they do so much more, since they also house exclusive movements offering innovative solutions to the quest for precision and reliability. Thus equipped with calibers that are visible exclusively from the back, they display distinguished character imbued with discretion.Inspired by 19th century pocket watches, the pebble-shaped cases, the “assegai” hands and the exceptional dials embody a blend of elegance and refinement.

FINISHES: AN IMPERATIVE REQUIREMENT AT LAURENT FERRIER
The attention devoted to finishing details ensures a perfectly orchestrated stage-setting for the movement. In the case of the Tourbillon Double Spiral, Laurent Ferrier has opted to associate straight lines and curves in a smooth and appealing manner. Horological finishes – satin-brushing, polishing, beveling and circular graining – are performed in an entirely traditional way, harmoniously complemented by a Côtes de Genève motif.

An emblematic component of the LAURENT FERRIER Galet Tourbillon Double Spiral models, the Tourbillon Bridge combines the three finishes executed in the in-house workshops. This distinctive guitar-shaped bridge features 6 interior angles, a rounded-off “neck” and a satin-brushed surface.

Interior angles at Laurent Ferrier: Even today, there is no machine capable of polishing an interior angle. This distinctive form of beveling (or chamfering) can only be done manually by experienced artisans. While many manufacturers have abandoned this skill, it is still alive and well at Laurent Ferrier, where it is done by a person dedicated to this task. The profession of beveller or chamferer has all but disappeared, and this expertise is handed down from generation to generation through practice alone. The whole purpose of this technique is to give the part a perfect aesthetic appearance. In the Ateliers LAURENT FERRIER, bevellng is done with a file and polishing with a buff and a diamond powder applied with a hand-cut boxwood peg.

Round polishing: Round polishing the “neck” of the Tourbillon Bridge requires around three hours of hand-craftsmanship in order to reach the level of perfection demanded by LAURENT FERRIER in terms of both the shape and the polish. Round polishing consists in uniformly filing the part so as to give a semi-cylindrical shape to an originally rectangular component. Through the regular to-and-fro circular motion of the hand holding the base on which the part is placed, and the other holding the abrasive plate, the artisan shapes the material as required. Once the rounded curve is clearly defined, the challenge lies in achieving a perfectly polished final result by applying diamond powder with a boxwood peg.

Satin brushing: The surface of the metal is drawn out in the desired direction (horizontal or vertical) so as to achieve a matt appearance and a finely striated effect.

Specular (mirror or black) polish: The part is placed on a zinc plate coated with diamond paste and then rubbed in a circular motion so as to achieve a mirror-polish effect.

All the watchmaking decorative choices are precisely defined during the development phase in order to be smoothly integrated within the final composition.

GALET CLASSIC – TOURBILLON DOUBLE SPIRAL
Invented in 1801 by Abraham-Louis Breguet, the tourbillon is a horological complication designed to compensate for the differences in rate resulting from positions (vertical) that are unfavorable for the regulating organ. For the first time, this major invention is complemented by a double balance-spring.

The two balance-springs are mounted head-to-tail, making it possible to maintain the center of the balance firmly on its axis when the springs are deployed on either side. The combined advantages of these two devices guarantee high rating precision and enhanced regularity.

Inspired by the major 19th and 20th century chronometry (precision timing) models, the Galet Classic Tourbillon Double Spiral features a number of nods to the competition watches that testified to the expertise of the finest watchmaking artisans. For example, a long-blade ratchet pawl was chosen for its horological aesthetic, magnified by a smoothly round-polished finish, as well as for the fact that it was featured on historical pocket watches. Finally, it also features an extremely pleasing sound during winding. The ball-shaped crown makes handling particularly easy.

Galet Classic – Tourbillon Double Spiral

THE ÉCHAPPEMENT NATURELBY LAURENT FERRIER
Laurent Ferrier offers its own interpretation of an invention by Abraham-Louis Breguet dated 1789: the échappement naturel, or double direct-impulse escapement. The distinctive nature of the échappement naturel lies in its ability to impart two impulses per oscillation directly to the balance, a system that calls for two escape-wheels and a suitably shaped lever. To better understand the system, one can look on it as a swing. You traditionally push the swing and then wait for it to return before pushing it again. To illustrate the échappement naturel, simply imagine two people pushing the swing to and fro between them.

For Breguet, the aim was to preserve as much transmissible energy as possible, since an impulse is imparted to the balance with each vibration. This idea thus seemed very promising, yet Breguet fitted it on a very limited number of models.  The main reason was that this escapement resulted in additional friction which adversely affected long-term reliability.

However, with the materials and precision technologies available today, this construction lives up to its intrinsic promise, as Laurent Ferrier vividly demonstrates in its Galet Micro-Rotor model that derives full benefit from the facilitated winding of the barrel-spring. Laurent Ferrier has opted for a lever made of silicon for its intrinsic lightness and self-lubricating properties; as well as escape-wheels in a nickel-phosphorous alloy for its extreme hardness. The main advantages of these cutting-edge materials are the resulting perfect surface states along with strong resistance to wear and corrosion.

Awards
The Galet Classic – Tourbillon Double Spiral won the Best Men’s Watch Prize at the 2010 Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix.

Laurent Ferrier Galet Minute Repeater School Piece

Revealed at Baselworld 2018, Laurent Ferrier’s Minute Repeater is a rare horological complication piece manufactured according to the highest standards in fine watch making. This timepiece comes in limited edition and just five will be produced over the two next years.

To ensure the sound would be as beautifully rounded as possible, the case has been made of steel, a choice of material accentuating the chime and endowing it with a clear, light tone. So as to prolong the listening pleasure, the chime lasts is 17 seconds for the longest indications. A major highlight of this complication is well-modulated spacing of the hours, quarters and minutes chimes.

Laurent Ferrier Galet Minute Repeater School Piece

The striking mechanism is activated by a sliding bolt built into the left side of the case-middle. Tiny hammers strike a two-pitched gong to sound the hours, quarters and minutes. A minute repeater watch strikes on demand a low-pitched note for each hour, a double high- and low-pitched note for the quarters, and a high-pitched note for every minute that has elapsed since the last quarter.

Laurent Ferrier Galet Minute Repeater School Piece

For example, if the time is 11:59 the minute repeater will sound 11 low tones representing 11 hours, 3 sequence tones representing 45 minutes and 14 high tones representing 14 minutes after 45 minutes. The time is struck by small steel hammers on differently tuned gongs – steel coils curving in a circular shape around the movement.

Laurent Ferrier chose a very classically designed movement with a Swiss lever escapement and traditional materials for a complication whose originality lies in crystal clear sound and a long chiming sequence. This manual winding caliber has an 80 hour power reserve.

Laurent Ferrier Galet Minute Repeater School Piece

This new movement features signature Laurent Ferrier characteristics such as a winding pawl with a long blade, a distinctively shaped balance-wheel, a Côtes de Genève motif as well as finely cut bridges. The note-shaped bridge on the inertia flywheel is a delightful nod to the function of the model. The classically shaped hammers with their stark outlines are aligned on a bridge featuring distinctive interior angles.

Through the sapphire crystal case-back, one can admire the views of the finishing of the movement with its manually chamfered angles and polished screw heads.

For the Minute Repeater, Laurent Ferrier entirely adapted the 40mm School Piece case to ensure perfect harmony and balance between the movement and the timepiece.

The gold Assegai hands and baton-type seconds hand retain their characteristic shape. Laurent Ferrier has treated the Minute Repeater dial with a 6N red gold colour, featuring copper glints thanks to the vertical satin-brushed finish that is a favourite with the Maison. The silver-toned small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock is adorned with a snailed finish.

Laurent Ferrier Galet Annual Calendar School Piece

Presented at SIHH 2018, this new Annual Calendar watch is powered with Laurent Ferrier’s 5th exclusive calibre that combines a convenient and user friendly functionality with pure design and optimal visibility.

Entirely designed in-house, the Galet Annual Calendar School Piece embodies all the values and spirit, Laurent Ferrier infuses in all his creations. This new timepiece was developed with the aim of ensuring extremely smooth handling, while also ensuring visual balance, readability and performance in all circumstances. With its date and month fast-adjustment by simply turning the crown forward and backward, this new timepiece offers a great experience to the wearer.

Laurent Ferrier Galet Annual Calendar Montre Ecole watch

For its annual calendar complication, Laurent Ferrier decided to pay a tribute to its first manual winding movement: The tourbillon double hairspring. The new caliber features a long “blade” type click ratchet which became a distinctive signature. For the first time, Laurent Ferrier will introduce a “pale” 18K yellow gold version.

The Galet Annual Calendar School Piece displays the day of the week, the date and the month under consideration of months with 30 and 31 days, so the only adjustment required is once a year: on March the 1st The date is clearly indicated by a central hand and the days of the week and the months in two beveled apertures.

The Galet Annual Calendar School Piece houses a manual winding mechanical movement equipped with a power-reserve area indication positioned on the movement side. The power reserve is guaranteed for 80 hours.

Laurent Ferrier Galet Annual Calendar Montre Ecole watch

With the School Piece case, Laurent Ferrier’s objective was to develop a case with the same roundness, as when those pioneering watchmakers converted pocket watches into wristwatches. For this new caliber, Laurent Ferrier entirely adapted the 40mm School Piece case to ensure perfect harmony and balance between the movement and the timepiece.

The same straight, thin lugs offer another contrast of the modern and the traditional, the “pastille” end-piece decoration mirrored by the winding crown. Two gold (red and pale yellow) versions and a steel edition will be available.

The gold Assegai hands and baton-type seconds hand retain their characteristic shape. A new red or burgundy hand created for the date, brings modernity and visibility to the timepiece. The two beveled apertures for days and months ensure optimal readability. The date displayed all around the dial provides a view at one glance on all the relevant information.

The dial comes in silver-toned or slate-grey with vintage-inspired numerals painted in blue and two zones with vertical satin brushed on the center and circular satin brushed on the outer circle.

The sapphire crystal case-back of the Galet Annual Calendar School Piece provides a fine view of the finesse of the finishing. In addition to the Côtes de Genève motif with a ruthenium treatment adorning the bridges and the circular-graining of the mainplate, the sides and interior angles are manually chamfered and the screw heads are polished.

The Geneva watch manufacture has incorporated a long “blade” type click ratchet, polished and with a curved shape that reminds the Galet Classic Tourbillon Double hairspring. The sub-dial at 6 o’clock has a circular satin brushed outer circle and a snailed finish in the center. A sunburst finish was chosen to decorate the power-reserve area indication.

The Galet Annual Calendar School Piece is fitted with beige calf leather or black alligator strap with Alcantara lining, secured by a pin buckle or a double blade folding clasp.

Laurent Ferrier Galet Square Porcelain Limited Edition

It is fitted with a silicon escapement featuring a double direct impulse on the balance. This technology developed by Laurent Ferrier enables the balance to be impelled twice per oscillation, a principle that requires two escape-wheels and an appropriately shaped lever.

This innovative construction, combined with the use of cutting-edge materials, maximises energy efficiency, thereby guaranteeing a high amplitude of the balance. This in turn reduces the amount of mechanical force required to wind the mainspring and optimises winding.

Laurent Ferrier Galet Square Porcelain Limited Edition

The finishes reflect the high standards Laurent Ferrier imposes on all its creations. All are performed in keeping with the finest watchmaking traditions.

Alongside the Côtes de Genève motif on the bridges and the circular graining on the mainplate, the wheel spokes are bevelled, the screw heads are chamfered and polished and the interior angles are hand-crafted.

The sapphire crystal case-back provides a fascinating glimpse of this fine workmanship and reveals an attractively balanced structure stemming from a clever combination of lines and curves.

Arpal One by Laurent Ferrier and URWERK for Only Watch 2017 Unique Piece

Two Swiss independent luxury watch firms – Laurent Ferrier and URWERK – have joined hands together to create Arpal One, a one of a kind horological masterpiece in support of the Only Watch auction in aid of the battle against Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Its special case featuring aero-dynamic curves was designed by Laurent Ferrier. The case was shaped from an exclusive alloy called ARPAL+, specifically developed for this unique watch. ARPAL+ consists of 75% precious metals and resists wear and scratches better than white gold or steel. Its colour never fades, nor does it oxidise. This alloy was first developed for the electronics industry where it is much appreciated for its strength and because it is easily worked.

The polished case of the Only Watch by Laurent Ferrier and URWERK reflects light like no other and seems to sparkle. In contrast, URWERK’s movement was created with every restraint. Unlike the case, it is almost self-effacingly colourless. The four hours satellites are in a matt pearly grey with diamond-polished outlines while the hours and minutes markers are painted in white SuperLuminova.

The time is shown by four satellites, each bearing three hours numerals, which successively sweep past the track of minutes. This original and intuitive way of telling the time is aided by a cover in polyetheretherketone, a thermoplastic known as PEEK, which hides the satellites that are not engaged in indicating the time. The satellites turn on a hidden carrousel, at the heart of the successive passage of the hours.

Laurent Ferrier Galet Micro-Rotor Montre Ecole Regulateur

Presented this year, Laurent Ferrier’s Montre Ecole wristwatch represented the watchmaker’s earliest development, returning to the basic pieces which forged his abilities as a watchmaker. Known as a “watchmaker’s watch,” this minimalist creation was a watch that would speak to horologists who have been there, learning the basics – one they would love to wear themselves.

Now, Laurent Ferrier is presenting a new Regulateur display on a base of a Galet Micro-Rotor movement, housed in a School Piece case. Its visage is classical, with the most important of the three indicators – the large, centrally-positioned hand – displaying the minutes. Above the centre, at 12 o’clock is the hours display, while below it, at 6 o’clock is the seconds subdial.

Laurent Ferrier Galet Micro-Rotor Montre Ecole Regulateur watch

The FBN Calibre 228.01 automatic equipped with the pawl-fitted micro-rotor, delivers a 72-hour power reserve. The 40mm stainless steel case or white gold is water resistant to 30m and is fitted with sapphire crystals for front and back, for a perfect view of the movement. Alongside the Côtes-de-Genève motif on the bridges and the circular graining on the mainplate, the wheel spokes are bevelled, the screw heads are chamfered and polished and the interior angles are hand-crafted.

Laurent Ferrier Galet Micro-Rotor Montre Ecole Regulateur watch

For the dial, a silver toned, vertical satin-brushed finish has been chosen, with the minute and seconds counters recessed and contracted with a nickel snailed finish. The small hours dial bears Roman numerals in black, while the minutes are shown on a “railway track” ring in slate grey with blue painted Arabic numerals at 15, 30, 45 and 60 minutes.

The hands for the three functions include a “leaf-shaped” hand for the hours and “assegai-shaped” hand for the minutes and a baton-shaped hand for the seconds. All three hands are in white gold 18K/210Pd with a black ruthenium treatment.

The Galet Micro-Rotor Montre Ecole Regulateur will be available from Laurent Ferrier agents from July.

Laurent Ferrier Galet Micro Rotor “MontreEcole”

For this haute horlogerie creation, Laurent Ferrier has recalled his very first creation as a watchmaker: the School Piece, or “MontreEcole”.

The School Piece incorporated the 19th century pocket watches codes, the skills and techniques that traditionalists will never allow to disappear. In paying homage to his ur-watch, Laurent Ferrier has developed a case with the same roundness above and below its wrist, as when those pioneering watchmakers converted pocket watches into wristwatches.

Laurent Ferrier Galet Micro- Rotor “Montre Ecole” watch

The Galet Micro Rotor “MontreEcole” has a new 40mm three-piece bassiné case, its form enhanced by two satin bands, with a matte finish to contrast with the polished. The competing-yet-harmonious surfaces emphasise the curved shape and balance of the piece, assisting the eye in appreciating the subtlety of the curvatures. Straight, thin lugs were developed to offer another contrast of the modern and the traditional, the “pastille” end-piece decoration mirrored by the winding crown.

Laurent Ferrier Galet Micro- Rotor “Montre Ecole” watch

The Galet Micro Rotor “MontreEcole” will be available in three versions including Red Gold, White Gold or Steel:

The Galet Micro Rotor “MontreEcole” Steel

This new case demanded a new dial, also inspired by the Laurent Ferrier School Piece “MontreEcole” with a vertical satin-brushed finish in a dark silver hue. Assegai-shaped white gold hands and indexes point to anthracite painted indexes. The minimalist small seconds dial, free of clutter, enjoys two contracting surfaces: a snailed finish in the centre and a sandblasted outer section.

Laurent Ferrier Galet Micro- Rotor “Montre Ecole” watch stainless steel

Another nod to classicism is the finish of the main bridge, reminiscent of the “frosted” style of the great English watchmakers of the 18th century. Laurent Ferrier also chose a rougher decoration for its micro rotor movement, recalling the original materials uses in prototyping, such as brass, which offers a contrast with steel. Further hand-finishing skills applied to the movement include shot-blasting, known as microbillé, and mirror polishing for the parts in steel, including the balance cock.

It is fitted with a dark brown alligator leather strap with Alcantara lining, secured by a pin buckle or a double blade folding clasp in steel.

The Galet Micro Rotor “MontreEcole” Gold

Offered in Red Gold or White Gold three-piece bassiné cases, the gold models are fitted with Assegai hands matching the case metals. Sharing with the steel version’s dial are the vertical satin brushed finish in a silver hue and the minimalist small seconds dial with snailed finish in the centre and a sandblasted outer section.

Laurent Ferrier Galet Micro- Rotor “Montre Ecole” watch red gold

The Galet Micro Rotor “MontreEcole” in gold will exhibit the exact same decoration as our existing Micro Rotor models. The gold editions attach to the wrist with light brown alligator leather straps with Alcantara lining, secured by a pin buckles or a double blade folding clasps in white or red gold.

Laurent Ferrier Galet Classic Dual Tourbillon Double Spiral

Due to requests from customers and collectors eager to savour the view of the Galet Classic Tourbillon’s spectacle not only from the movement but also from the dial, Laurent Ferrier worked on a unusual view of the tourbillon itself, visible from the bottom cage.

To further showcase the raison d’être of the Galet Classic Dual, the task was to offer this view through the dial side, with the tourbillon remaining in its initial position. By turning around the tourbillon mechanism, a new look has resulted, providing an unusual take on the most elegant of watch features.

And yet it is a truly subtle exposé, one to be appreciated by connoisseurs of tourbillons. A tourbillon’s mechanical ballet is too beautiful to be hidden away. Equally, it is too precious, too rare a creation to be presented in any manner other than one of understated grace.

Laurent Ferrier Galet Classic Dual Tourbillon Double Spiral

For Laurent Ferrier, the only way to achieve this goal was to keep the original design intact, while creating a space to unveil the tourbillon cage from the dial-side.

Through insisting that the tourbillon remain in its initial position, he was able to create a subtle and elegant version that aspired to greater transparency. This demanded a specifically-developed bridge with two arms supporting the regulating organ. This part has such a singular shape, combined with a strong functional role that it is extremely difficult to finish: this tiny component features vertical satin-brushing, shot-blasting and hand-polishing of the sink and angles.

Laurent Ferrier Galet Classic Dual Tourbillon Double Spiral

In a Galet Classic, the finishing on the tourbillon cage takes up to fifteen hours just for the bottom cage bridge because of the seventeen interior angles. With this new version, the decoration achievement is seen from the two sides so the interior angles are decorated on both sides.

The cage, too, is extremely light and thin, providing the quest for greater transparency with another opportunity to better reveal the technicality and the high standard of decoration of the tourbillon. It achieves this by increasing the mount of space and light for the regulating organ.

To provide a perfect presentation of this most noble of horological feats, the Galet  Classic Dualis encased in a white gold housing, of a comfortable 41mm diameter.

This surrounds a dial with its circular satin-brushed chapter ring and its sole numeral – a Roman XII – in a raised, powdered silver-toned grey transfer. Delicate is the contrast between the chapter ring and the silver-toned vertical satin-brushed finish in the center, accented further by a railway minutes track painted in slate grey.

Laurent Ferrier Galet Classic Dual Tourbillon Double Spiral

Indicating the time are Assegai-shaped white gold hands with a ruthenium treatment, standing proud against a light background. The tourbillon, this magnificent timepiece’s raison d’être, enjoys pride-of-place in an aperture at the six o’clock position. A sculpted arc draws the eye to the tourbillon.

The Galet Classic Dual timepiece comes fitted with a blue alligator leather strap with Alcantara lining. This is secured by a pin buckle or a double-blade folding clasp in 18K white gold.

Laurent Ferrier Galet Traveller Night Blue for William & Son

On demand of its exclusive retailer in London, William & Son, Laurent Ferrier has created a special 18k rose-gold and platinum limited edition of the new Galet Traveller Night Blue, applying red gold-leaf to highlight the United Kingdom’s position in the enamel dial.

The UK-only edition is based on the Galet Traveller movement LF 230.1 – which offers 80 hours of power reserve and functions with a so called “natural” escapement – and is visible through the sapphire case back on which the name William & Son has been engraved in a unique blue lacquer displayed at 12 o’clock.

The centre of this dial is adorned with a convex planisphere depicting the five continents in 18K white gold, surrounded by a blue enamel sea. Crafted using the age-old champlevé technique, the area destined to host the seas and oceans is hollowed out from the material before the enamel is applied. The difficulty lies in performing this enamelling on a domed surface serving to re-produce the rotundity of the Earth and in highlighting the central five-continent motif. The edge of the continents slopes gently towards the coastlines, displaying various shades of blue.

Laurent Ferrier Galet Traveller Night Blue for William & Son

The three-dimensional effect is reinforced by several aesthetic details. The emerged territories are painted and the world’s cities seen by night are depicted by gold leaf-adorned dots further enhancing the contrast with the oceans. Hand-finished with a circular satin-brushed decoration, the outer gold ring dips towards the central sphere, thereby accentuating the illusion of a raised globe literally balanced on top of the dial.

The unique aesthetic of the model is heightened by the drop-shaped hour-markers whose tips extend beyond the ring, giving the impression that they are literally suspended in the void.

1- Cells are carved on the metal plate (dial)
2- Delicate enamel is embedded in the carved surface of the dial

The piece is then fired until the enamel melts

3- After cooling the surface of the object is polished and continents painted
4- 5N red gold leafs are applied on the enamel dial to highlight the United Kingdom’s position

The Galet Traveller Globe Night Blue was developed in such a way as to combine practicality with an overall balance of the timepiece, thus ensuring readability and performance in all circum-stances.

Two perfectly symmetrical oblong pushers delicately integrated into the left-hand side of the case serve to adjust the local time indicated by the central hand. When passing from one time zone to another, this central hours hand may be moved forward or backwards in one-hour increments by successive presses. The upper pusher moves the hand one hour forwards, while the lower one moves it backwards, all without affecting the minutes hand.

In addition to this fast adjustment of local time, the date appearing through an aperture at 3 o’clock automatically jumps when the hand passes midnight, thereby adjusting without any separate intervention to the transitions between different time zones. Meanwhile, the 9 o’clock aperture keeps track of the reference time (home time). The 24-hour display provides a natural distinction between daytime and night-time hours.

The Galet Traveller Globe is powered by self-winding LF Calibre 230.01, incorporating the dual-time adjustment mechanism as well as the date. It features a system of unidirectional automatic winding via a pawl-fitted micro-rotor, backed by a double direct-impulse échappement naturel. This escapement is distinguished by the fact that the balance receives two direct impulses for each oscillation, thereby guaranteeing excellent efficiency matched by an 80-hour power reserve.

The decoration and finishing are performed in keeping with the spirit of Haute Horlogerie, combining extreme dexterity with artisan-style expertise.

The sapphire crystal case-back of the Galet Traveller Globe enables one to admire the exquisite refinement of this craftsmanship and was engraved in a specific blue lacquer at 12 o’clock with the name of William & Son for this specific limited edition.

In addition to the Côtes de Genève décor on the bridges and the circular graining on the mainplate, the sides are manually chamfered and the screw heads are polished. The hand chamfering is particularly visible in the finesse of the interior angles, highlighting the authentic respect for the watchmaking art consistently cultivated by Laurent Ferrier.

The Galet Traveller Globe Night Blue for William & Son will be limited to five pieces in rose gold and platinum.

Laurent Ferrier Galet Square Walton Street Limited Edition – Exclusively For Swiss Finetiming

On demand of its partner Swiss FineTiming, Laurent Ferrier has created a new version of the Galet Square micro-rotor offering a two-tone red gold hued sector dial typical of the late 1930s with lugs designed for Swiss FineTiming. This special edition timepiece celebrates the opening of the new Swiss FineTiming store Walton Street, downtown Chicago.

For this special edition, Laurent Ferrier presents a new composition of space on its exceptional sector dial, while respecting the aesthetic codes of its collection. The harmonious division between an outer circle with a circular satin-brushed finish and a central zone with a vertical satin-brushed finish lends the dial this two-tone effect.

The space is marked out by an anthracite nickel and delicately accentuated raised chapter ring featuring curved markers paying a distinctive nod to the brand’s iconic drop-shaped hour-markers. This new red gold colored dial is punctuated by anthracite nickel Breguet type numerals at 9, 12 and 3 o’clock and an applied chapter with a round cabochon cut finish, polished manually offering a beautiful volume effect and focus firmly on readability.

The outer rail is complemented by anthracite painted Breguet numerals.  The small seconds echoes the central theme, thereby endowing this model with a perfect balance entirely respectful of the pure lines and the principles of readability cherished by Laurent Ferrier.

Laurent Ferrier Galet Square Walton Street Limited Edition - Exclusively For Swiss Finetiming

The dial is graced with “arrow-shaped” hours and minutes hands in gold, treated with ruthenium; while the baton-type seconds hand set the perfect finishing touches. The Laurent Ferrier logo is silver print depicted on the cartouche.

To highlight the unique nature of this model, Laurent Ferrier designed distinctive lugs featuring a side decoration exclusively for Swiss FineTiming. The timepiece is fitted with a ball-shaped winding-crown ensuring smooth and pleasant handling.

The back sapphire was treated to reveal on the inner part, the Swiss FineTiming logo. The back bezel shows the number of the timepiece out of ten. Its water resistance is guaranteed to a depth of 30 metres.

Once again, Laurent Ferrier testifies to its determination and its ability to create models imbued with a pure aesthetic while also giving a preference to “bespoke” interpretations for unique occasions.

Laurent Ferrier Galet Square Boréal

Galet is the name of the first watch collection from the Laurent Ferrier Manufacture, unveiled in 2010. Six years later, on the occasion of the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie 2016, Laurent Ferrier presented its new model: the Galet Square Boréal.

Its evolution has been gentle and gradual, like the curves of minerals polished by the waves. The pebble, stemming from centuries of the incessantly repeated work of nature, magnifies the softness and purity of shapes. For Laurent Ferrier, the Galet embodies the perfect integration of all case components, as if one were holding a pebble in one’s hand.

For this new model, Laurent Ferrier, revisits an Art Deco aesthetic while giving it a contemporary twist. This timepiece is intended to be resolutely original while complying with the brand’s signature design codes.

The dial is enhanced with harmoniously varied tones and textures through associating Superluminova for the chapter ring, a vertical satin-brushed finish on the dial, a snailed small seconds subdial, and a fine slate-grey transfer around the periphery.

The small seconds picks up the central theme, thereby endowing this model with a fine aesthetic balance, in keeping with the principles of purity and legibility cherished by Laurent Ferrier. The dial is also graced with “arrows haped” hours and minutes hands enhanced with Superluminova, and a baton-shaped seconds hand.

The pure aesthetic codes of the Maison have been maintained, but in this 41 x 41 mm size, the model is more powerfully present on the wrist than its predecessors. Fitted with a ball-shaped winding-crown ensuring pleasing handling, the back is equipped with a snap-on back ensuring that the movement remains easily accessible to watchmakers via the olivette.

The movement is a self-winding FBN 229.01 calibre, equipped with a unidirectional pawl-fitted micro-rotor and offering a three-day power reserve.

Laurent Ferrier reinvents the graphic composition of the Galet Square dial while preserving the distinctive aesthetic codes of its collection.

For this new variation, this so-called “sector-type” dial typical of the late 1930s attractively combines a vintage touch with a highly contemporary appearance.
