Cadanz by Kerbedanz

Swiss luxury brand Kerbedanz presents a new watch line named Cadanz by Kerbedanz.

The new Kerbedanz collection stands out with its sparkling and delicate aesthetic. Its exquisite geometric effects combine with craftsmanship while its elegance transcends genders. In total this line already includes more than 30 references and it will continue to grow.

Cadanz by Kerbedanz

The Cadanz by Kerbedanz timepieces are available in three sizes, 32, 36 and 41 mm in diameter. They are distinctive for their guilloche central pattern and, like all Kerbedanz watches, for the way the crown is positioned at 2 o’clock. The date window is also located at 2 o’clock. All the glasses are made of sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. The transparent caseback allows the wearer to admire the mechanical movement beating inside each timepiece.

All the straps in this collection, with their identity buckle, offer an elegant orange highlight, one of the brand’s signature colors, together with navy blue.

The Cadanz by Kerbedanz Idyll watches are distinguished by their two italic Arabic numerals, 12 and 6, intersected by a circular rib that also runs through the baton-shaped indexes. The lower circle shape boldly breaks up any visual dullness and adds to the aesthetic combinations.

As for the dials of the Cadanz by Kerbedanz Signature models, they spell out their numbers 12-3-6-9, sometimes with a slight openwork on the hour markers of the 41 mm diameter models. Dressed in 41mm diameter cases, both Cruise and Boutique Edition models display the hours from 1 to 12, using a sleek and stylish typographic font.

Cadanz by Kerbedanz

The Cadanz by Kerbedanz watch collection offers an extensive choice of case materials such as steel, rose gold or DLC on steel. The range of options includes mother-of-pearl, navy blue, black, eggshell color, sword hands, and date display under opaque glass. In addition to the aesthetic brilliance of the watch, jewel options can be added with precious sparkles: bezels, lugs and sometimes even the entire case middle can be covered with white diamonds.

The Cadanz by Kerbedanz are all self-winding mechanical watches with a generous power reserve. Their hours, minutes and seconds caliber, sometimes with a date, is housed in a three-atmosphere water-resistant case.

The Kerbedanz brand’s chronometry expertise, in harmony with the most prestigious manufacturers, contributes to the excellence of Swiss Made and to the co-creation of highly personalized manufactures, for example, the use of tungsten for the rotor of a Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier caliber.

KERBEDANZ Esperanza Classic Pink Limited Edition

Whether it is masterfully familiar with the watchmaking mother-complications or engaging in a few variations of precious-stones set on a background of jewellery-making know-how, KERBEDANZ brand with this art piece takes up the challenge of a pink with infinite delights.

This timepiece comes in a limited edition of 41 units. When our gaze sweeps over the dial of this watchmaking art piece, a KERBEDANZ Esperanza, it is taken away by the 10 carats of pink sapphires that surround its fully stone-set bezel…. It is difficult not to be pleased, in addition to remembering Grace Jones’ masterful interpretation of La Vie En Rose, of the 15,000 flowers of the Rose Garden in Los Angeles French District.

The wristwatch case is in 18-carat yellow solid gold, its diameter is 42 mm. The design and the space requirement of its lugs (wristband fasteners) make this piece totally comfortable even on very thin wrists. While the case is entirely set with 10 carat pink sapphires, the wristband fasteners are each overlaid by a 0.37 carat diamond row. Despite its caratage and gem-setting, this timepiece is guaranteed waterproof to 5 atmospheres, or 50 meters deep. Like almost all KERBEDANZ timepieces, the crown is located asymmetrically between the 1:00 and 2:00 positions.

The matrix of the dial is in solid gold. A guillochage expert has designed a luminous décor that KERBEDANZ glazing covers. Kerbedanz Maximus Royal Tourbillon

The KERBEDANZ Maximus, the wristwatch with the world’s largest tourbillon, is now available in a diamond set, paved version featuring invisibly set 453 baguette-cut diamonds totaling 18.47 carats. Christened Maximus Royal Tourbillon, this exclusive watch collection is available in a micro-series of 14 unique timepieces.

Exclusively on order, the 14 Maximus Royal Tourbillons to be made by Kerbedanz will each belong to a range of different coloured shininesses. Each piece will have a unique hue, subtle dosages of colours but, always, this common engraved inscription: “One of Fourteen”.

In 2017, the Kerbedanz unveiled Maximus, the wristwatch with the world’s largest tourbillon with a 27 mm diameter cage, almost twice the model known until then to hold this size record. Above all, thanks to its mastery of the fundamentals of precision watchmaking, Kerbedanz produces an extremely precise watch, endowed with two patents, one of which concerns its original winding system. It is a toothed wheel to be operated on the back of the part.

The beauty combined by KERBEDANZ in its world premiere Maximus, is full of aesthetic richness and watchmaking harmony made of ultimate care, of polished finishings, such as these hand made polished bevels, these stretching of the sides of the parts, these ring gears, these screws proposed in a polimirror finish. As for the versions of this exceptional watch, offered with the most advanced customizations, there is the nobility of the materials: white gold, yellow, pink, platinum, titanium. In complement to the all-black treatments with their seductive depths, the infinite range of colors specific to precious stones and their combinations is now available.

The Kerbedanz Maximus Flying Tourbillon, with its XXL tourbillon size, makes it possible to better observe and understand the subtleties of this fascinating mechanism, but it also demonstrates the extent of its watchmaking skills: design and manufacture of a specific spiral, a racquetry with fine adjustment screws and a pendulum. Here, the cage rotates every six minutes and not in 60 seconds, as is the case most of the time.

KERBEDANZ Florence

With this creation, Swiss luxury watch maker KERBEDANZ pays fine watchmaking tribute to the Renaissance.

The spirit of Florence, cradle of the Renaissance, breathes on this rare masterpiece of jewellery. The capital of Tuscany, a gentle region set in the heart of an Italy of dolce vita and genetic elegance, is at the heart of this watch by KERBEDANZ, available in a limited series of 68 pieces.

As a result of CDO Aram Petrosyan’s creative impulses, the Chief Designer Officer, four fleursde-lis set with sumptuous rubies, echo Florence’s coat of arms. These four flowering fleurs-de-lis, adorned with rubies as buttons, shine through the sunny decor of a hand-guilloché dial. Regular grooves reminiscent of the Marzocco’s mane, this proud lion holding under his right hind leg the Florence crest. Here and there, we always come across this animal in several places in the city. This lion symbolizes the popular authority that was then embodied by the Medicis family, of which Laurent so called Le Magnifique due to his great generosity, remains the most emblematic figure.

Born in 1449, Laurent de Médicis was in charge of Florence until his death in 1492. We owe him Florence’s reputation as the city of artists, since it was the cradle of the Renaissance and even today the city alone gathers 25% of Italy’s artistic heritage treasures, with its libraries, churches, palaces, gardens, bridges, fountains, museums, exhibition spaces and covered markets.

KERBEDANZ

«Giving sense to the beauty», this is the vision of the KERBEDANZ, located in the capital of the canton of Neuchâtel in Switzerland. This is achieved by combining the symbolisms, a path as yet unexplored in a traditional Swiss watchmaking industry. This unusual approach differentiates it from everything that is done in the area of high watchmaking of mechanical obedience.

By founding KERBEDANZ, its current president Tigran Kerbedanz, firstly makes an eponymous tribute to his ancestor, to the origin of the family dynasty famous in the world of know-how coming from traditional goldsmith’s haute art. Then he refers to the etymology of his name Kerbedanz – the heirs of Karabed -which means the leader, the precursor. It turns out that these two terms come into perfect harmony with the spirit of the brand: leader in its hardliner attachment in the values of Swiss watchmaking craftsmanship, precursor in its concept which consists in transcending in an unheard tone, universal experiences and their immutable symbols.

Having already designed and manufactured more than a hundred models for MIP, these Most Important People who are statesmen or first class personalities, whatever are their areas of influence, it is on the way of unique pieces and ultra limited series that KERBEDANZ brand explores the history of civilization. The historical universes where jostle cultural and geographical allusions, peculiarities which are locally circumscribed to their original cradles or, conversely, globally universal. As a result, this rare and precious timepieces turn into concentrates of initiatory journey.

Aram Petrosyan is the chief designer of the brand. In 2015, KERBEDANZ introduced its watch collections at Baselworld jewellery and watch fair in Switzerland.

KERBEDANZ Armenian Alphabet Special Edition

The Swiss haute-horlogerie brand KERBEDANZ has created a special, limited edition timepiece paying tribute to the aesthetics of the Armenian Alphabet. One of these timepieces is now a part of rich collections of the Vatican Museums.

The Swiss high end watch brand and its management have been received by His Holiness Pope François following a demand for a private audience for the presentation of this very special gift. The use of the Armenian alphabet, whose unique aesthetic is a mixture of curves and entangled angles, replaces advantageously any form of index. This mysterious writing, invented by the monk Mesrop Mashtots in 405 AD, is still in use today.

KERBEDANZ Maximus – Mechanical Hand-Wound Wristwatch with the World’s Largest Tourbillon Cage

Swiss luxury watch brand KERBEDANZ presents Maximus, an unusual wristwatch housing the world’s largest tourbillon cage measuring 27 millimeters across. A world premiere creation in a limited edition of 99 pieces, the Maximus  was introduced  at the Baselworld trade fair.

With its 27-millimeter cage, which is almost twice the size of the largest one known to date, the biggest wristwatch with tourbillon in the world, by KERBEDANZ, couldn’t be called anything but Maximus. Indeed, the most imposing monument of all of Roman Antiquity is still in Rome to this day and is called the Circus Maximus in Latin and in Italian. This famous venue was used for horse-drawn chariot races. It was built between the Palatine and Aventine Hills in the early 6th century B.C.E. by the Etruscan king, Tarquin the Elder.

The tourbillon was invented by the great watchmaker Abraham Louis Breguet (1747-1823. The complication places the regulating organ of the watch inside a cage that turns on itself, thus varying the position of the regulating elements to compensate for errors due to gravitational forces, to non-concentric development of the balance spring, and the point where it is attached to the collet. In watchmaking, enlarging the size of certain components does not mean just multiplying their size. Everything needs to be reinvented, recomputed. Two patents are pending.

This watch required conception and manufacturing of a special balance spring, a rack with a screw for fine adjustment, and a balance wheel. The cage of this watch makes a full rotation once every six minutes, and not in sixty seconds, which is usually the case.

In terms of energy, the Caliber KRB-08, with its giant central flying tourbillon, in-line pallets, and 27-millimeter cage, boasts four parallel barrel springs that drive a central wheel mounted on ball-bearings. This produces enough power for a tourbillon of such size. It runs at a frequency of 2.5 Hertz, or 18,000 vibrations per hour. The feat lies in being able to develop a power reserve of 48 hours, which is displayed on a separate indicator. The watch is made up of 415 carefully assembled components, of which 73 are dedicated to the tourbillon cage. The latter is made entirely of titanium and only weighs 1.35 grams.

At Baselworld 2017, the beauty shown by KERBEDANZ by the world debut of the Maximus is not only symbolic. It has all the esthetic opulence emanating from meticulous watchmaking balance and scrupulous finishing, like the superb hand-polished beveling, the drawing of the watch’s flanks, the circular-grained wheels, or the mirror polished screws.

KERBEDANZ Squama Tourbillon

The ultra-limited edition KERBEDANZ Squama Tourbillon shows how the Neuchâtel-based brand continues to express its passion for creating all black themed horological creations as well as its mastery of the art of skeletonization.

In November 2016, at the Salon des Grandes Complications in Dubai, KERBEDANZ revealed for the first time the results of its adventure into the magical realm of the “dark art,” with an “all black” look shot through with somber flashes and nuances. Now, at Baselworld 2017 the brand is unveiling its latest work of art, the Squama Tourbillon.

The dial backdrop of the Squama has a smooth look much like the skin of a serpent. In religion, mythology and literature, the serpent represents fertility and creative power. As mythical creatures, they sometimes appear part human, part dragon, and they inhabit many fantastical and mystical tales. In ancient Greece, Echidna, half woman, half snake, gave birth to a number of dragons. As for Cecrops, an Athenian hero, he had the head of a man on the body of a serpent. In Toltec and Aztec mythology, the winged and feathered Quetzalcoatl was a key figure. And in medieval Europe, the basilisk, a serpent with a dragon’s body, was supposed to be able to kill just by looking at its victims. Melusina, another creature from European folklore, somewhere between a fish-woman and serpent-woman, had to spend a day per week in the water.

KERBEDANZ Black Editions – Sappheiros Tourbillon, Black Edition & 3-Horses Tourbillon, Dark Edition

KERBEDANZ, the Neuchâtel-based independent luxury watch brand is introducing a world premiere, the all-black versions of two timekeepers already considered exclusive.

With its portfolio of unique pieces, ultra-limited series, and customized watchmaking excellence, KERBEDANZ has adopted the mission of “giving sense to beauty.” This company, whose name conjures images of mechanical watchmaking excellence, uses the design and execution of its timepieces to delve into the quintessence of the traditional Swiss watchmaking arts – including mastery of the greatest complications –combined with ultimate know-how inherited from a long family tradition of jewelry. KERBEDANZ uses the most avant-garde coating technologies for its extraordinary watches: an all-black coating, a world premiere that was first offered to buyers in the Middle East.

Amorphous carbon is produced in a vacuum and deposited in thin layers on any surface, be it a tiny part, or the whole middle case. It’s a material that combines the structure of graphite with that of diamond and varying percentages of hydrogen. The result is a deposit of great mechanical hardness and a blackness of varying intensities known as DLC, or diamond-like carbon. In addition to its decorative qualities and the amazing opportunities it creates for aesthetics, DLC has outstanding functional properties that are much appreciated by watchmakers. For example, there is its unparalleled resistance to wear and tear and a very low friction coefficient; in short, all qualities that are required by those who make superlative works of art that need to defy the scouring of time. KERBEDANZ and its team of designers headed by Aram Petrosyan as the CDO (Chief Designer Officer), created all-black versions of their 3-Horses and Sappheiros models.

They now have a look that reflects the contemporary quality this exceptional material gives to the gold middle case and dial, the harmonious contrasts between the infinite nuances of black and the nobility of the watchmaker’s metals, notably gold.

Kerbedanz is the only high-end watch brand that uses the concept of the initiation path as a creative and attractive element. Each work is a distillate of symbols borrowed from past and present civilizations. In terms of inspiration, it is studded with cultural and religious features from specific eras and regions. The brand makes use of known elements as well as ones that will always remain secret. The well-rounded aesthetics appear quite normal at first glance. A closer look reveals a wealth of symbols, allegories and references that are more or less directly related to social or geopolitical contexts that have marked the history of humanity.

Sappheiros Tourbillon, Black Edition
After diamond, the hardest material in nature is the sapphire, whose ancient Greek name was sappheiros. It is like some original drop of water offered for divine favor and immortality, prized by kings and mighty dignitaries from all cultures.

KERBEDANZ makes use of the high-tech properties of this colorless and transparent material to illuminate the micromechanical beauty of its KRB-02 caliber, a manually-wound tourbillon movement designed, manufactured and decorated by the company itself in collaboration with Concepto:19 jewels, 21,600 vibrations per hour, 72 hours power reserve, 168 parts, a tourbillon cage made up of 80 parts and weighing 0.42 grams.

The movement nestles inside a DLC-treated, full gold case, which is water-resistant to 5 atmospheres (50 meters). The sapphire crystal on the front and back has an antireflective coating. At the northeast– i.e., at 1:30 –is the crown, a kind of reference point and a symbol. The bezel preens with 48 diamonds (1.09 ct) divided up into segments by 12 sapphires. Limited edition.

3-Horses Tourbillon, Dark Edition
A supreme and universal symbol, the horse represents the freedom of great natural expanses still untouched by man, and universal elegance par excellence, as well as the most noble of animals domesticated by humans. KERBEDANZ has brilliantly managed the watch’s totem-like elegance, made up of the busts of three thoroughbreds, their mane in the wind, as if they were galloping, tied to the fullgold, DLC-treated bezel.

The rounded shapes that emerge will amaze any sculptor of animals with a feeling for the gracefulness of miniaturized arts. It radiates an air of lightness, poetry transcended by a few supporting lines necessary for the proper chronometric performance of the tourbillon caliber with visible gearwheels that appear to be floating in space.

It is water-resistant to 5 atmospheres (50meters), the crown is in the northeast, at 1:30. The watch runs on the tourbillon caliber, a manually-wound mechanical movement, conceived, manufactured and decorated by KERBEDANZ and Concepto. 19 jewels, 21,600 vibrations per hour, 72 hours power reserve. 168 components (80 for the tourbillon cage, total weight: 0.42 grams). Limited edition.

KERBEDANZ Polvs Arcticus, Double Tourbillon GMT

A singular novelty at Baselworld in 2016, the Polvs Arcticus, an exceptional timekeeper, is powered by a double tourbillon GMT caliber. Two miniature spheres celebrate the scientists and explorers of the past and offer a view of astronomy, maritime horizons and technical feats.

Homage to the great maritime exploits KERBEDANZ has always been always enamored with collective symbols and has always found a way to slip them into each of its watches, turning them into initiation paths ideal for ultra-personalization. And now, the brand is taking its aficionados on a journey to the days of the great explorers. The Polvs Arcticus, a Latin name that reminds one of the makers of maritime instruments of old, does carry an emotional and artistic charge dedicated to the mythical days of global adventures. And once again, through references and discreet allusions, the brand goes beyond its motto “giving sense to beauty.”

This watch’s incredible feats of miniaturization turn it into a genuine work of art. At the micromechanical level, it represents a very thoroughly thought-out bit of chronometric science, because inside beats the double tourbillon GMT KRB-07 caliber. It’s a manually-wound movement composed of 341 parts, conceived, manufactured and decorated by KERBEDANZ in collaboration with the watch movement maker Concepto. It boasts a northern and southern tourbillon with microscopic cages made up of 80 components each and covered by two hemispheres. The beauty of the finishing, particularly the beveling and the different polishes that master watchmakers are so fond of, can be admired through the sapphire crystal at the back of the pure 18-karat white-gold, 50 millimeter case.

On the dial, the decorations and finishing includes motifs related to seafaring. One can make out the subtle contours of a navigation compass of an ancient galleon. The two hemispheres provide support for very meticulously worked reliefs. In fact and this is an incredible technical prowess – the one covering the northern tourbillon is a mere 0.1 millimeters thick.

The northern hemisphere of Earth seen from the pole emerges from a blue, translucent backdrop in grand feu enamel, with the visible parts of the continents carved out of gold. The total thickness, including the reliefs, does not surpass 0.3 millimeters.

On the southern hemisphere, we see an astrolabe made of pure gold and representing the celestial sphere. The key to this particular achievement lies in the faithful representation of the astrolabe, an ancient instrument that had a number of different functions, notably to determine precisely the time the sun would rise and set, or when a celestial body would pass over the meridian. These data were very handy for determining one’s position at sea. Ancient Greek navigators already knew how to use this instrument. Islamic scientists of the 15th and 16th centuries went on to perfect its functionality.

KERBEDANZ VERT

The time indicated on VERT is derived from “Vartama-way-track” meaning “something rotating or returning to its original position.”

Kerbedanz used the technology of guilloche to create these original watches. Originality is not only due to delicate and refined lines, but also the meaning and symbolism that they contain.

On the dial the funnel in the form of a letter V filled with a floral ornament represents prospering fullness of being. The laurel wreath since antiquity is a symbol of a victory, glory and peace. Perfect and delicate lines of a laurel wreath smoothly frame the logo of Kerbedanz, who revives symbols and historical references they contain.

There are only 60 movements of this caliber handcrafted by master watchmaker Karl-Christian Braun. Three of these exclusive movements are the key of originality of this collection and true treasure for experts –collectors, as they extol the spirit of golden era of mechanical watches.

KERBEDANZ FLORENCE

With this high jewellery timepiece, KERBEDANZ pays tribute to the famous city of Florence, the capital of the province of Tuscany and cradle of the Renaissance in Italy.

Four Florentine fleurs de lys on the dial, embedded with beautiful rubies, recall the arms of Florence with fleur de lys vermilion florencé, the term “florencé” meaning the fleur de lys includes among its fleuron of the stems the buttons.

Sun guilloche dial recalls the solar lion of the Medici who became rulers of the town in 1434. The representations of this lion, called Marzocco, holding in his right anterior leg a crest stamped with Florentine fleurs de lys, come across in several places in the city. It symbolizes the people’s power of Florentines (Medici lions symbolizing the power and the wealth of the Medici family).

Of this family, Laurent de Medici (1449-1492), called “The Magnificent” because of this great generosity, was undoubtedly the personality who has contributed the most to the reputation of the “city of art” of Florence. Leader of the Florentine Republic until his death, he was one of the most notable characters from this period of the Renaissance. Talented diplomat and politician he has worked with and protected a large number of scholars, poets and artists, among which Verrocchio, Leonardo da Vinci, Botticelli, Michelangelo…

City of art and culture, Florence is one of the Italian cities with the richest in works of art and cultural centers of all kinds, and assembles more then 25% of the works of the Italian artistic heritage: academies, libraries, churches, palaces, gardens, bridges, fountains, museums, exhibition halls and covered markets…

KERBEDANZ PAON

At all times, the peacocks were associated with beauty, nobility, wealth, royalty and majesty. KERBEDANZ PAON pays homage to this beautiful bird.

On white enamel background, on a sinuous branch of the eastern tree sits the royal bird, the neck gracefully arched. The half-open luxurious tail with magnificent character colors falls from the branches down and forward, turning to the spectator by its picturesque “eyes”, the most extreme of which are placed on the axes of the indications of hours.

On the axes of the indications 10, 11, 12, 1 and 2 –the diamonds, excellently shading the image of a bird -the true miracle of nature, correlated with the grandeur, luxury and beauty.

KERBEDANZ ESPERANZA

KERBEDANZ gave to this beautiful jewelry model the Spanish name of Hope: Esperanza.

The Hope is an attitude of mind to consider the possibility, or even the belief or the faith in a better future for oneself or for the others. To continue to hope, even when everything collapses around you, is a feeling that perhaps is unique to human beings. In any case, this optimistic attitude of mind can be noticed in the very first invocations to the divine.

KERBEDANZ – The Tree of Life

With this ultra limited series of forty-one watches, the Swiss brand from Neuchâtel, Switzerland, has connected with the delicate intimacy of the most refined and demanding women. This is a watch that explores the frontiers of female inaccessibility.

This extraordinary timepiece, the Tree of Life, is a distillate of all the ancient jewelry traditions, of which KERBEDANZ remains a rightful heir. It exudes the lavishness of massive gold and natural glass.

The Tree of Life features a total of 540 carefully selected, cut and calibrated emeralds, generously sprinkled in a snow setting around the bezel and stretching all the way to the delightfully sculpted lugs. This harmonious, esthetically balanced creation is deeply immersed in the opulent style of the jeweler, an ancient, flowering tree planted in a mossy undergrowth. It is the product of an inspired designer, a work of horological art brimming with gold leaves and spangled with diamonds – the indices – and harboring an ultra-precise Swiss mechanical automatic movement. It speaks to the heart of women who, in spite of their discreet inclination towards all matters transcendent, do maintain a feeling for earthy realities.

This great, very real jewel, made with the know-how and skill of the KERBEDANZ gem setters, expresses universal symbols redolent of celestial dews and the sacred fruit of the Garden of Eden.

KERBEDANZ Quintum Minute Repeater

The two KERBEDANZ minute repeaters, the mother of all horological complications, have just been acquired by a collector. These two pieces also have animations. They represent a distillate of extreme horological arts.

La Fabrique du Temps and Concepto, two movement manufacturers among the most sought-after by the various haute horlogerie brands, worked on the extraordinary KRB-05, the KERBEDANZ caliber inhabiting the two Quintums. It’s a 29-jewel movement, manually wound, with Côtes de Genève decoration. It boasts a power reserve of one hundred hours, and beats at 21,600 vph using an escapement wheel and pallets made of silicon.

These two unique timepieces were shown to a few select people at Baselworld. They have just found a buyer. They will nevertheless remain a part of the history of the Neuchâtel watch brand KERBEDANZ as an exclusive witness to the company’s claimed and mastered skills, the harmonious marriage between two histories going back centuries: the history of Switzerland’s watchmaking regions with their micromechanical expertise, and that of a veritable dynasty that has practiced the quintessential métiers d’arts connected to the ancient tradition of jewelry, namely engraving, enameling and miniature sculpting for generation upon generation.

The 45-millimeter satin-polished case and the double-layered dials of the two Quintums are in massive 18-karat rose gold. The case is immediately identifiable from the original positioning of the winding crown in the northeast, that is, at 1:30 o’clock, which is in itself a symbol. A bas relief with a miniature sculpture on enamel was exclusively conceived, made, hand-sculpted and decorated by KERBEDANZ.

It is in harmony with the symbolism depicted on this model, which is drawn from ancient Chinese culture and represents the Five Elements as seen from Earth: Water is in the north, represented by a turtle entwined with a serpent in black; Metal is in the west and is represented by the Celestial Tiger in white; Fire is in the south, represented by the Chinese phoenix or Vermillion Bird, in red; Wood is in the east and is represented by a dragon in blue-green or turquoise; finally, Earth is in the center and is represented by the unicorn or Qi-Lin, a kind of chimera in yellow. The Five Elements are omnipresent in the composition of the sky, the constellations, and in Chinese astrology.

And while the hammers strike the gongs and replace the visual hourly indications by acoustic signals –this is the mechanical idea behind the minute repeater –an animation is suddenly set in motion: One of the paws of the Qi-Lin begins to  move, followed by the wings of the Vermillion Bird, while the turtle entwined with the serpent starts to move back and forth.  The ballet performed by the two Quintums is above all playful, but it does draw its fantastical skills from the alchemy of the micromechanical sciences taken to an extreme level.

Kerbedanz Tourbillon A’Ghrian

In Gaelic, the term A’ghrian refers to the sun, which, as in German, is female. No wonder, then, that the metaphors used to describe this exceptional timepiece tend to be filled with femininity, Celtic musicality, and mysticism. The word, so luminous in its essence, lends itself well to the many seminal symbols that are so dear to KERBEDANZ, a brand headquartered in the canton of Neuchâtel, Switzerland.  Unlike other big names in the watchmaking industry, KERBEDANZ freely mixes symbolic elements.

The exclusive hand-crafted dials and movements are created, manufactured and decorated by KERBEDANZ. The hand-wound tourbillon caliber KRB-01 was designed, built and decorated by the brand and the movement manufacturer Technotime. It features 27 jewels, 28,800 oscillations per hour (4 Hertz), a double spring barrel and 120 hours of power reserve. A sapphire crystal with antireflective coating offers a glimpse into the finely decorated back of the movement, which is engraved with the KERBEDANZ colors. On the dial, the tourbillon cage is located in the southwest, between 7 and 8 o’clock, in the axis of the crown, located between 1 and 2 o’clock. This is in the northeast, where the sun comes up in the northern hemisphere, depending on the time of year.

This KERBEDANZ timekeeper is water-resistant to 50 meters. It is the first of a limited and numbered series. Its 43-millimeter case, cut out of 18-karat white gold, features a number of secret –or only discreetly visible –visual references. It comes with a “Birth Book.” The watch truly celebrates the great star, both as a fulcrum as well as a point of reference. It displays all the symbols and legends that surround the sun and all that it influences.

KERBEDANZ 3-Horses Tourbillon Sapphire

The KERBEDANZ brand, precursor in its yet unexplored approach in traditional Swiss watchmaking industry to initiate the way of civilizational and cultural symbolisms, chooses to represent the busts of three horses, the manes to the wind, like galloping hung from white gold bezel of a model named soberly 3-Horses. This novelty was launched in March 2015 in Baselworld in a limited edition of 14 exemplars.

The elegance that stands out in low relief exudes the finesse. It borders on admiration. It gives birth to rounded reliefs worthy of famous wildlife sculptors who have been affected by the grace of arts miniature. The effect of lights emanating from this scene full of poetry is accentuated by the fact that some parts which carry the tourbillon movement that inhabits this mechanical construction have been shaped in sapphire. The result is a luminous transparency in the middle of which still stand out more equine silhouettes and the visible gear trains.

With each of its timepieces, whether it is about the unique pieces open for more advanced customizations or pieces in limited even ultra limited edition, the KERBEDANZ brand offers a Book of Birth written to the glory of mentioned symbols. To decode the importance of the horse in current and past civilizations, it evokes its totemic dimension. The human is therefore recognized in horses, symbols of freedom, of motivation and desire to live. They embody the enthusiasm, the visceral desire for escape. They are the balance between instinctive and tamed parts of the being, between controlled reason and passionate unreason.

Kerbedanz Celtic Dog Limited Edition

KERBEDANZ – timepieces which exceptional character is dedicated to unique personalities. Its founder and president, Tigran Kerbedanz, chose the name “KERBEDANZ” in honor of his ancestor. “Kerbedanz” has a double meaning and signifies leader and precursor and is in the origin of the surname.

KERBEDANZ launches at Baselworld 2015 the Celtic Dog, a model provided in 41 numbered exemplars, dedicated to an animal figure which lunar symbolic embodied for the ancient Celts the hunter, the warrior or the messenger from the afterlife.

The dog, that was highly valued by the ancient Celts as both hunter and warrior was also regarded as the messenger of the Hereafter and was associated with the moon. A complete book on Celtic Dog’s symbols and legends is offered with the watch.

On the dial made from solid white gold in three-layers and blue enameled, are depicted the reliefs of Celtic Dog topped by the applique in white gold from the background of decorative interlaces of La Tene style.
