Jacob & Co. Astronomia Tourbillon Bucherer BLUE

Jacob & Co. unveils a unique Astronomia Tourbillon watch in collaboration with Bucherer and Sotheby’s.

The Jacob & Co. Astronomia Tourbillon Bucherer BLUE is a marvel of Swiss craftsmanship and the decorative arts. Moreover, this unique timepiece was the first triple axis tourbillon to leave the Earth’s atmosphere.

Jacob & Co. Astronomia Tourbillon Bucherer BLUE

On April 8, from the Launch Complex 39A at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, Axiom Space launched a four-person team to and from the International Space Station (ISS). The flight named AX-1, returned off the Florida coast on Monday, April 25.

A crew member on this historical mission was Eytan Stibbe, an impact investor and philanthropist, leading the Israeli designed Rakia mission to space. He had carried the Jacob & Co. Astronomia Tourbillon Bucherer BLUE watch during the space journey.

The Rakia mission, along with the Astronomia Tourbillon Bucherer BLUE, spent 17 days 1 hour and 37 minutes in space, as the space crew orbited the Earth 273 times at an altitude of 250 miles at nearly 17,500 mph, traveling over 7 million miles in total.

Jacob & Co. Astronomia Tourbillon Bucherer BLUE

With its return from space, the Jacob & Co. Astronomia Bucherer BLUE is set to embark on a public exhibition tour in New York City, first stopping at the Bucherer 1888 TimeMachine from July 11 – 17. From there, moving to exhibition at Sotheby’s New York galleries from July 21-25, before heading to the auction block in a single-lot dedicated live auction on July 26.

On offer with no reserve- and bidding starting at $1- proceeds will be donated to benefit charities, with further details to be announced at a later date.

Jacob & Co. Astronomia Tourbillon Bucherer BLUE

The Jacob & Co. Astronomia Bucherer BLUE incorporates a complex movement with a gravitational triple axis tourbillon.

The dark blue starry background mirrors the deep, captivating color of the firmament (“Rakia” in Hebrew) and the pronounced domed case, made of anti-reflective sapphire crystal, essentially features a microcosm: four satellites turn in constant motion, including the dial, tourbillon cage, a spherical diamond that reflects the moon, and a magnesium lacquered globe that reflects the Earth. All finished in the Bucherer BLUE color scheme, this timepiece is galactic to the core.

Jacob & Co. Astronomia Tourbillon Bucherer BLUE

According to crew member, Eytan Stibbe, the Astronomia Tourbillon Bucherer BLUE timepiece continued to accurately display the time during the launch and return to earth, enduring extremely high G-forces and also micro-gravity while in space.

Jacob & Co. Epic X Chrono Black Titanium Orange, Unique Piece for Only Watch 2021

Jacob & Co. will once again participate in the biannual Only Watch Charity Auction on November 6 in Geneva. For the same, the brand has proposed a unique version of the Epic X Chrono Black Titanium with orange details in keeping with the color theme of the 2021 Only Watch auction. The color scheme is being interpreted by Jacob & Co. as a new bright orange sunrise following more than a year spent in the darkness of the global corona virus pandemic.

Jacob & Co. Epic X Chrono Black Titanium Orange, Unique Piece for Only Watch 2021

The 47mm black DLC Grade 5 titanium case, black ceramic bezel and black mineral crystal dial are offset by bold orange highlights on the screw-down crowns, pushers, lugs, chapter ring and mineral dial. This color theme is completed with an open-worked orange rubber strap. The design of the case and dial retains its iconic bold “X” shape.

The Epic X Chrono Black Titanium is powered by the Jacob&Co JCAA05 – a semi-skeletonized automatic bi-compax chronograph movement with detailed high-end finishes and a 48-hour power reserve. The watch is controlled by two pushers (start/stop and reset). The seconds are counted by the central chronograph hand and the minutes are clocked by a right subdial.

The dial features a smoked sapphire glass that provides a partial view of the semi-skeletonized movement. A bright red chronograph central seconds hand is offset by the two black and orange sundials in the bi-compax layout.

The tips of the black skeleton minute and hour hands are topped with white SuperLuminova. A black chapter ring has the hours, minutes and seconds in orange and yellow. A push-down crown at 10 o’clock allows the ring to rotate.

Jacob & Co. Twin Turbo Furious Bugatti Edition and “Bugatti Chrono Edition Limitée 110 Ans”

During Baselworld 2019 exhibition, Jacob & Co. announced a long-term partnership with Bugatti, the world’s most celebrated high performance sports car manufacturer, to collaborate on a series of exclusive cobranded products. This partnership brings together two companies that share a passion for cutting-edge design, pushing the limits of what seems mechanically possible. Stephan Winkelmann and Jacob Arabo, the Presidents of Bugatti and Jacob & Co., formally announced the partnership in March this year at Basel-world.

BUGATTI CHIRON SPORT EDITION 110 YEARS

The partnership begins with a limited edition of the Jacob & Co. high complication masterpiece the Twin Turbo Furious Bugatti Edition. The original Twin Turbo Furious electrified Baselworld when it launched in 2018, with its breathtaking twin triple-axis tourbillons, column-wheel chronograph and decimal repeater.

Designed with high performance sports cars in mind, the Twin Turbo Furious Bugatti Edition features turquois around the dial that pays homage to Bugatti’s 110 year anniversary Chiron, positions the Bugatti logo proudly and prominently in the center of the dial and renames the power reserve indicator “fuel” and sports the colors of the French flag on the gauge.

Only 39 timepieces will be made, each individually numbered: 18 in carbon fiber, 18 in rose gold, and three with diamonds.

The partnership will also see the release of a special version of a sporty “Bugatti Chrono Edition Limitée 110 Ans” in a limited edition of 110 pieces to mark each year since the founding of Bugatti by Ettore Bugatti in 1909.

The defining technical element of the Epic X Chrono is the Jacob & Co. JCAA05 skeletonized self-winding chronograph movement. This high-end chronograph caliber is equipped with a column-wheel to launch the chronograph functions. Its counters are arranged in a bi-compax format, with the small running seconds on the left, at nine o’clock, and the elapsed minutes counter on the right, at three o’clock; the elapsed seconds are read on the central French flag red chronograph seconds hand.

The Bugatti version features a newly invented special forged carbon case and incorporates the colors of the French flag into its bold dial design underlining Bugatti’s heritage. The timepiece comes on a special rubber strap inspired by the iconic rear bonnet of the Bugatti Chiron and will feature the iconic “EB”-logo on the buckle to commemorate the partnership.

Jacob & Co. Twin Turbo Furious (Twin Triple Axis Sequential High-Speed Tourbillon, Minute Repeater and Mono Push Chronograph) Baguette Version

Last year, Jacob & Co. turned watchmaking on its ear by introducing the Twin Turbo Furious, a grand complication that combined of a twin accelerated triple axis sequential tourbillon, a minute repeater and a mono-pusher chronograph.

To take the Twin Turbo Furious, Jacob & Co. has done what comes naturally to the brand – add baguette gems to this spectacular timepiece. The case of this timepiece is in 18K White Gold and is set with 344 Baguette Diamonds (~16.7cts). Even the clasp of this timepiece is set with 22 Baguette Diamonds (~1.4cts).

Jacob & Co.’s Twin Turbo Furious, which was three years in development, sets itself apart from this distinguished lot, incorporating two accelerated triple axis sequential tourbillon into its striking design. The tourbillons fly their courses at a rhythm of one rotation in 24 seconds on the first axis, in eight seconds on the second, and in 30 seconds on the third. The tourbillon cages housing the regulating organs sweep over all the positions in half a minute and compensates the effects of gravity on the chronometric precision of the movement.

The benefit of the connection between the two tourbillon cages is to stabilize the entire system. In case of impact, if either one of the two tourbillons were to be affected by the shock, the other would instantly compensate the potential discrepancy and maintain the movement’s perfect accuracy.

Minute repeaters are also the most difficult complication for watchmakers to conceive. Nevertheless, Jacob & Co. sought to push the boundaries of what was considered technically feasible when bringing the Twin Turbo Furious to life. In order to simplify the aural indication of time, the Twin Turbo Furious chimes every ten minutes, a so-called decimal repeater that is very rare in high watchmaking.

The power reserve is displayed on the dial side at 6 o’clock. Thanks to an ingenious planetary system comprising a differential gear mechanism; the hand points to a full power reserve on the left, then moves to the right as the 50 hours of reserve winds down. The watch is wound up through the crank placed on the crown at 3 o’clock.

With the Twin Turbo Furious, Jacob & Co. goes even further by adding a very specific chronograph function. Embodying the Swiss House’s determination to always seek new solutions or to create never-before-seen functions, the Twin Turbo Furious is equipped with a “reference time” indicator. The reference time indicator offers instant reading inspired by the timekeeping panels used in motor racing; with each lap, the panels displayed on the side of the track would tell the drivers the time difference between their time and the lap reference time.

The Twin Turbo Furious display is located in the center of the dial, which indicates the difference in seconds in comparison to a reference time.

Jacob & Co. Oil Pump

For the first time ever in watchmaking, and after more than a year in development, Jacob & Co. has incorporated two working derricks, an “oil” reservoir and a system of pipes into a timepiece, powered by a manual-wind double-axis tourbillon at its heart.

The tourbillon cage Oil Pump makes a full revolution on its first axis in 60 seconds and on its second axis in 2.5 minutes. The rose gold Oil Pump automaton is on demand, activated by a pusher at two o’clock.

All of this comes in a very wearable 47mm 18K rose gold and sapphire crystal case, with a solid 18K rose gold case back. Keeping the design clean, there is no setting crown, instead the winding and time setting is done using two bows built into the case back.

Everything is on display in the Oil Pump thanks to the unique domed sapphire with a double anti-reflective treatment. The watch is water resistant to 30 meters.

Jacob & Co. Opera God Father

The Opera masterpiece from Jacob & Co. integrates The Godfather film’s iconic music, the logo of the film and even a miniature Godfather figure, hand-engraved and hand-painted, into this extraordinary timepiece.

Introduced last year, the Opera musical timepiece combines two traditional Swiss crafts: a mechanical music box boasting two cylinders and combs and an exclusive Jacob & Co. JCFM02 manual-winding caliber. This breakthrough timepiece was challenging for the brand’s engineers and watchmakers, and as a result the Opera was in development for more than two years.

In this highly complicated timepiece, the two cylinders and combs are mounted on the movement and rotate around the dial each time they play the iconic theme from The Godfather. This works together with the triple-axis tourbillon and the hour and minute dial.

The making of music boxes has been a traditional Swiss craft for hundreds of years. In the Opera Musical Watch, Jacob & Co. has combined this artisanal work with high watchmaking for the very first time. The watch is able to play the haunting 120-note melody never-before-heard in a musical watch.

Using a sophisticated one-piece sapphire crystal that encircles the whole timepiece, the mechanics of the Opera are put on display for all to see, at the same time allowing the movement to deliver the purest sound.

A central flywheel drives the two cylinders, which was a real challenge for the watchmakers, due to the weight of the cylinders. A pusher located at two o’clock activates the rotation of the entire movement and simultaneously plays The Godfather melody. Each note is played as the tiny pins on the cylinder make contact with the individual teeth of the comb. As the cylinders turn to play the melody, the entire assembly on which they are fixed, including the triple axis tourbillon and the hour and minute dial, rotates 120 degrees around the dial.

The tourbillon rotates around its inner cage once in 40 seconds, while its intermediate cage rotates in three minutes and its outer cage in eight minutes.

Finally, in order to display the time with 12 o’clock always in its correct position, a patented differential gear system is used; the dial turns counter clockwise, while the hands keep time.

The manually wound caliber JCFM02 has been developed specifcally for this complication, using titanium for excellent sound. The movement, which is made up of 650 components, fits into a diameter of just 43mm.Jacob & Co. Regardless of whether or not the melody is playing, the triple axis tourbillon dances its round-the-clock mechanical ballet.

Jacob & Co. has the exclusive rights, awarded by Paramount, to use The Godfather logo and music in the amazing Opera timepiece.

Jacob & Co. Supernova Twin Central Tourbillons

The Jacob & Co. Supernova Twin Central Tourbillons watch combines high watchmaking, a world first with two linked central triple axis tourbillons, with high jewelry, as the case is invisibly set with baguette hexagonal diamonds and the dial is set with hexagonal, “overlapping” diamonds.

The two mystery disks turn to indicate the time, rotating around the twin triple axis tourbillons, linked by a single differential, set into the center of the watch. This is a unique positioning, as most tourbillons are either set at the twelve or six o’clock position.

This is the first time that Jacob & Co. has placed its two incredible triple axis tourbillon movements in the center of the watch, where they turn on three axes: the first axis in 60 seconds, and the second and third axes in two minutes.

The minute disk is set with 119 White Diamonds (≈ 6.80 ct.) and one ruby (≈ 0.18ct.) to indicate the exact minute. The hour disk is also with 119 White Diamonds (≈ 7.93ct.) and one red ruby (≈ 0.28ct.) to show the hours. The 50mm 18K white gold case features a special domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment to show off the diamonds and the tourbillon, and the bezel inner ring is also set with gems — 12 Blue Sapphires (≈ 1.49ct.) and 108 White Diamonds (≈ 4.56ct.).

Jacob & Co. Fleurs de Jardin

This high-end feminine timepiece from Jacob & Co. takes inspiration from the sophisticated mechanism of the Astronomia Solar watch. 11 brilliant flowers of kite-shaped amethyst, pink and icy blue sapphires, tsavorites, citrines, orange garnets and rubies rotate counter-clockwise around a mother-of-pearl dial once every ten minutes.

The entire timepiece is shrouded in pink sapphires, with 46 stones (~1.05cts) on the dial, 48 stones (~1.31cts) on the rose gold inner ring, 40 stones (~3.7cts) on the rose gold bezel, and 50 stones (~1.4cts) on the charming butterfly-shaped clasp.

Within all this beauty lies the legendary timepiece workmanship for which Jacob & Co. is famous, including the vertical Astronomia movement with three arms, which makes a full revolution in ten minutes around the central axis, a flying tourbillon and the patented Differential Gears System that allows the time display to maintain the 12/6 o’clock position regardless of where it is in the rotation. In addition, the flying tourbillon cage rotates on itself once every sixty seconds, as does the rose gold and blue lacquered globe.

On top of the movement sits a Jacob-cut Citrine (288 faces), taking pride of place.

JACOB & CO. EPIC X CHRONO “MESSI”

This limited edition collection was created in partnership with legendary soccer star Leo Messi.

The Jacob & Co. EPIC X CHRONO “Messi” watch features a polished grade-5 titanium case, anti-reflection sapphire glass, white ceramic chronograph bezel and buttons, titanium and blue-rubber horns, and red-rubber crowns. This eye-catching wonder is also water resistant to 200 meters, guaranteed shock resistant, and available in a strictly limited edition. Its immediately distinguishable light blue and white color was derived from the flag of Argentina, which is Messi’s home country.

Naturally, Leo Messi wanted to personalize his watch, so he put his iconic number 10 in red on the flange ring, his logo – a stylized M – on the dial at six o’clock, and his signature on the blue sapphire glass at the back of the case, which offers a view of the automatic bi-compax skeleton chronograph movement (JCAA05). This unique Jacob & Co. manufacturing gauge operating at 4 Hz reveals its sophistication with a column wheel and 48-hour power reserve.

The EPIC X CHRONO “Messi” marks the beginning of an exclusive three-year timepiece partnership between the football great and Jacob & Co. and will be the first of several limited edition designs to be released from the collaboration.

Jacob & Co. Astronomia 3-D Setting

This year at Baselworld, Jacob & Co. introduced the Astronomia 3-D Setting, a new horological marvel boasting a setting technique inspired by the unique relief architecture of a building across the street from the Jacob & Co. boutique and offices in New York City.

Jacob Arabo, the founder of Jacob & Co. masterfully blends the intricate worlds of high jewelry and high watchmaking in the Astronomia 3-D Setting, introducing a new way to set and view beautiful, sparkling baguette diamonds.

The large sapphire crystal case has been a consistent design element of Jacob & Co.’s Astronomia collection since the introduction of the first Astronomia in 2014. The transparency of the case allows the movement of the gravitational triple axis tourbillon to be clearly visible from multiple angles. In the spirit of constant improvement, the Astronomia 3-D setting elevates the level of transparency with the use of the Astronomia’s distinctive sapphire crystal case.

The new 3-D setting adds relief to the aesthetic of the precious stones. On the 18K White Gold front case, 103 Blue Sapphires (≈3.36 ct.), 150 Icy Blue Sapphires (≈2.27 ct.) and 134 White Diamonds (≈3.31 ct.) are all 3D set by hand. On the lugs, 80 Baguette White Diamonds are invisibly set (≈6.10 ct.), also by hand.

At the heart of the Astronomia 3-D setting lies the superior timepiece craftsmanship for which Jacob & Co. is renowned. A triple axis tourbillon counteracts the effects of gravitation on the caliber’s mobile components as the tourbillon cage rotates in 60 seconds and completes a revolution over itself in 2.5 minutes, while the entire tourbillon covers a full revolution around the watch’s central axis in 10 minutes. Both the 1-carat, 288-facet Jacob Cut® diamond and the magnesium-lacquered blue globe rotate on themselves in 30 seconds, and travel with the tourbillon and the time display around the dial in 10 minutes.

Jacob & Co.’s patented Differential Gears System allows the time display to maintain the 12/6 o’clock position regardless of where it is in the rotation.

Jacob & Co. Astronomia Maestro – Gravitational Triple Axis Tourbillon Minute Repeater Carillon

Jacob & Co. welcomes a new masterpiece to its phenomenally successful Astronomia collection. Having used the extremely complicated minute repeater in other collections, Arabo, founder of Jacob & Co. decided to include a minute repeater with carillon gongs into the already super complicated Astronomia.

Minute repeaters are the most prized complications by collectors and they are among the most difficult complications for watchmakers to conceive. Only a handful of watchmaking houses can successfully create a minute repeater, and when combined with other high complications, like the Astronomia’s triple axis tourbillon and rotating structures, the Astronomia Maestro is a true feat of watchmaking know-how, one that took more than three years of development time before it was ready to be released this year.

When actuated, the three spiral gongs of Astronomia Maestro’s minute repeater carillon chime out the hours, the 15-minute periods and the minutes, on display for all to see, and, thanks to the sapphire crystal case, the sound is fantastic.

The large sapphire crystal case has been a consistent design element of Jacob & Co.’s Astronomia collection since the introduction of the first Astronomia in 2014. The transparency of the case allows the movement of the gravitational triple axis tourbillon to be clearly visible from multiple angles, and the three elevated spiral gongs of the minute repeater carillon are clearly visible in the six o’clock position.

At the heart of the Astronomia Maestro lies the superior timepiece craftsmanship for which Jacob & Co. is renowned. A triple axis tourbillon counteracts the effects of terrestrial gravitation on the caliber’s mobile components as the tourbillon cage rotates in 60 seconds and completes a revolution over itself in 90 seconds, while the entire tourbillon covers a full revolution around the watch’s central axis in 10 minutes. The 1-carat, 288-facet Jacob Cut® diamond, the magnesium-lacquered blue globe, the hand-painted astronaut rotate on themselves in 40 seconds, and the moon phase and date, including two half-sphere Jacob-cut diamonds (one carat total) travel with the tourbillon around the dial.

The background to this mechanical mastery is pure aventurine, making it look like a deep blue starry sky, with a hand-painted Milky Way and planets as details.

Jacob & Co. Astronomia Flawless New Model, Unique Piece

The Astronomia Flawless watch by Jacob & Co. continues to impress with its multifaceted meaning behind the new Astronomia’s name.

“Flawless” not only refers to the watch’s impeccable appearance, but it is also the term for the highest grade of diamond clarity according to the Gemological Institute of America’s diamond grading scale. For a diamond to be declared flawless, no inclusions or blemishes should be visible under 10x magnification. Flawless is therefore a fitting benchmark for Jacob & Co.’s evolutionary interpretation of the Astronomia collection’s signature sapphire case.

Jacob Arabo, the founder of Jacob & Co. masterfully blends the intricate worlds of high jewelry and high watchmaking in the Astronomia Flawless. In its new avatar in 2019, this horological masterpiece boasts a flawless 2.88 ct. diamond on top of the amazing Astronomia movement.

The large sapphire crystal case has been a consistent design element of Jacob & Co.’s Astronomia collection since the introduction of the first Astronomia in 2014. The transparency of the case allows the movement of the gravitational triple axis tourbillon to be clearly visible from multiple angles. In the spirit of constant improvement, the Astronomia Flawless elevates the level of transparency with the use of the Astronomia Flawless’s monoblock sapphire crystal case. The sophisticated craftsmanship of the monoblock sapphire crystal creates the illusion that the complications within the case are floating effortlessly in midair.

To achieve this appearance, a number of the collection’s components that were previously produced in precious metal are instead made in sapphire crystal. These changes have added a considerable layer of complexity to the new watch, as the production of the case middle alone requires 15 individual steps that account for around 326 hours of work, while the case back requires around 297 hours of work. Add to this the 288 hours required for the production of the domed crystal evident in all Astronomia models and you can see why this year’s Astronomia Flawless is a unique piece.

At the heart of the Astronomia Flawless lies the superior timepiece craftsmanship for which Jacob & Co. is renowned.

Jacob & Co. Twin Turbo Furious – Twin Triple Axis Sequential High-Speed Tourbillon Minute Repeater and Mono Pusher Chronograph

The Twin Turbo Furious Jacob & Co. is an extremely complicated timepiece housing a Twin Accelerated Triple Axis Sequential Tourbillon, Minute Repeater and Monopusher Chronograph.

With this grand complication wristwatch from the brand’s celebrated “Twin Turbo” line, Jacob & Co. Founder Jacob Arabo, once again pushes the boundaries of traditional watch making. Unveiled at Baselworld 2018 International Watch and Jewelry Fair, this new timepiece boasts with an intricate combination of a twin accelerated triple axis sequential tourbillon, a minute repeater and a monopusher chronograph.

Twin Accelerated Triple Axis Sequential Tourbillon
Jacob & Co.’s Twin Turbo Furious incorporates a twin accelerated triple axis sequential tourbillon into its striking design. The tourbillons fly their courses at a rhythm of one rotation in 24 seconds on the first axis, in 8 seconds on the second, and in 30 seconds on the third. The tourbillon carrier housing the regulating organ thus sweeps over all the positions in half a minute and compensates the effects of gravitation due to the Earth’s attraction, considerably increasing the chronometric precision of the movement over time. This is a significant evolution from the watch’s previous version, which initially took 8 minutes to complete the sweeping over all positions. Today, the sweeping is done just 30 seconds – which speaks to the improvement in the stability of the new model’s precision.

Given the rotation speed of the tourbillons, the balance wheel’s beat (to-and-fro motion of the pallet): 6 ticks per second – a fragmented and visually-powerful rhythm that earned the movement its sequential appellation, can be observed.

The benefit of the connection between the two tourbillon carriers is to stabilize the entire system. In case of impact, if either one of the two tourbillons were to be affected by the shock, the other would instantly compensate the potential discrepancy and maintain the movement’s perfect accuracy.

Decimal Minute Repeater
Jacob & Co. sought to push the boundaries of what was considered technically feasible when bringing the Twin Turbo Furious to life. In order to simplify the aural indication of time, the Twin Turbo Furious chimes every ten minutes. Because this type of mechanism is known to be sensitive, Jacob & Co.’s movement engineering department included safety devices to prevent untimely occurrences such as the chiming being activated when resetting the time.

Planetary Gear Power Reserve
The power reserve is displayed on the dial side at 6 o’clock. Thanks to an ingenious planetary system comprising a differential gear mechanism; the hand points to a full power reserve on the left, then moves to the right as the 50 hours of reserve winds down. The watch is wound up through the crank placed on the crown at 3 o’clock.

Monopusher Chronograph Function with Reference Time
Jacob & Co.’s original Twin Turbo model, which debuted as a Baselworld novelty in 2016, was the first timepiece in history to combine two triple axis tourbillons and a minute repeater.

The reference time indicator offers instant reading inspired by the timekeeping panels once used in motor racing; with each lap, the panels displayed on the side of the track would tell the drivers the time difference between their time and the lap reference time.

There is a display located on the center of the dial of the Twin Turbo Furious that indicates the difference in seconds in comparison to a reference time initially set by the chronograph’s hands. This solution, which is as esthetically-pleasing as it is technically efficient, will inevitably delight motor sports fans. The incorporation of the monopusher chronograph function in the Twin Turbo Furious was a priority for Jacob & Co.: a column-wheel and horizontal clutch ensure precise functioning while allowing smoothness in the controls.

Jacob & Co. Astronomia Maestro

Unveiled at Baselworld 2018, the Astronomia Maestro from Jacob & Co. Astronomia Tourbillon collection successfully merges two high-horology complications – the brand’s acclaimed gravitational triple axis tourbillon movement and a minute repeater carillon with elevated spiral gongs – in addition to its basic timekeeping function and the spectacular astronomical display.

Dressed in a massive 50mm rose gold case with sapphire apertures on sides, this grand complication watch was realized by Jacob & Co. Founder Jacob Arabo in partnership with master watchmaker Luca Soprana. Masters in their respective fields, the duo worked together to conceive and develop the entire span of the Astronomia collection’s movements (including the original Astronomia’s first-ever vertically-constructed watch caliber constantly revolving around a center axis and the Astronomia Sky’s sidereal time display) over the past four years, dedicated a total of two years to bring the Astronomia Maestro to life. Due to the complexity of its composition and the intricacy of its design, the Astronomia Maestro is a limited edition model, offering only 18 individually numbered pieces.

The highly complex minute repeater mechanism complication, which has been mastered by only a handful of watchmakers worldwide, is complemented by overall sophistication of the Astronomia Maestro. The Astronomia Maestro, whose minute repeater is equipped with a patented fusée barrel with a ratchet and pawl system, also distinguishes itself as a first in watchmaking: the three gongs delivering the cathedral carillon melody crisscross above the plate, into a clearly visible spiral.

To make this seemingly impossible mechanism a reality, many elements of the Astronomia Maestro had to be newly devised. The Astronomia caliber’s distinct concept, as well as the space available in its sapphire dome case, enabled Arabo and Soprana to enhance the chiming function. Chiming the hours, quarter hours, and minutes from a low to high pitch, the Maestro’s minute repeater incorporates three hammers to simplify the aural indication of time. Together, the three hammers generate the harmonious melody of a “cathedral carillon” with the finest, purest of tones.

The watch’s sapphire dome and sides allow for a crystal clear sound. The required energy is provided by a rapid-rotation barrel and the minute repeater function is secured through a patented system which protects the mechanism from any handling mishap.

Aside from the acoustic performance of its minute repeater carillon, the Astronomia Maestro is considered a cutting edge timepiece because of its gravitational triple axis tourbillon. Although initially designed to counteract the effects of terrestrial gravitation on the caliber’s mobile components, the system gains in effectiveness by rotating on three axes: the cage housing the escapement goes around the balance wheel axis in 60 seconds and completes a revolution over itself in 2.5 minutes, while the entire tourbillon covers a full cycle around the watch’s central axis in 10 minutes. The triple rotation ensures the extreme precision of this exclusive Jacob & Co. JCEM03 caliber.

Honoring the primary function of a watch, the Astronomia Maestro’s dial, which indicates the hours and minutes, is positioned at the heart of the four axes rather than its typical position on one of the axes. The tip of the axis which normally houses the dial in the Astronomia collection is thus freed in the Maestro and has found a new function; it holds a moon phase rotating around the movement in 10 minutes and over itself in 31 days. While the date is displayed through a traditional index, the moon phase is shown through the rotation of a 288-facets Jacob-cut diamond that is half black and half white.

Coming to the astronomical display, under the sapphire dome, which resembles a porthole of an interplanetary vessel, one can follow the course of the Earth as it travels around the timepiece. Placed on one of the axes the lacquered magnesium globe rotates on itself in 30 seconds while simultaneously revolving around the main axis. Juxtaposed next to this movement is the sculpture of an astronaut, floating weightlessly within the Astronomia universe. The miniature sculpture weighs a mere 0.2 grams and revolves on itself in 30 seconds, as well as, around the watch’s face in 10 minutes.

Jacob & Co. Astronomia Gambler

Jacob & Co. expands upon its signature Astronomia Tourbillon collection with the launch of a customizable, casino-inspired model, the Astronomia Gambler.

Unveiled at the Baselworld International Watch and Jewellery Fair in March 2018, this grand complication timepiece also encapsulates a miniature roulette wheel beneath the watch’s sapphire crystal dome case. The dial of the Astronomia Gambler features all 37 squares of a roulette wheel, numbered from 0-36, in a spectacular array of green, red, and black enamel with mahogany inlays.

Creating a genuine casino experience, the owner of an Astronomia Gambler is given the opportunity to select his/her lucky number amongst the 37 squares. Jacob & Co.’s master craftsmen then place a mother of pearl insert on the chosen number slot. The Astronomia’s signature movement is set in motion by the automatic manufacture JCAA06 caliber whose rotor is none other than the roulette’s wheel.

Once the timepiece has been personalized, all that is left for the wearer to do is contemplate the roulette’s endless spinning, offering a reminder that life is a game of chance, and that one should try one’s luck until success is found. The Astronomia Gambler demonstrates Jacob & Co.’s unique ability to blend the highest level of the horological arts with bold, and playful design. The limited edition model offers only 18 pieces, each individually numbered.

This cutting-edge timepiece boasts not only an intricate and eye-catching design, but also a gravitational triple axis tourbillon; a staple within Jacob & Co.’s Astronomia collection. Although initially designed to counteract the effects of terrestrial gravitation on the caliber’s mobile components, the system gains in effectiveness by rotating on three axes: the cage housing the escapement goes around the balance wheel axis in 60 seconds and completes a revolution over itself in 2.5 minutes while the entire tourbillon covers a full cycle around the watch’s central axis in 10 minutes.

Regarding the timekeeping function, the timepiece boasts an off-center dial with the hours and minutes clearly legible in large-size Roman numerals and blue hand that stand out against the colorful backdrop.

Like the other versions in the collection, the Astronomia Gambler also houses an eye catching cosmic world under the glass dome where a lacquered magnesium terrestrial globe and an exceptional 288-facet Jacob-cut diamond, revolving around the dial in 10 minutes and over its axis in 30 seconds. The patented Jacob-cut diamond and magnesium blue lacquered globe adorn the roulette inspired timepiece like good luck charms.

Jacob & Co. Astronomia Black Ceramic

Presented at Baselworld 2018, this new variation of its iconic Astronomia Tourbillon watch from Jacob & Co. offers a sleek and sophisticated take on the original design, housing its signature high-tech movements in case composed entirely of black ceramic. The pared-down setting immediately draws the eye to the watch’s four-armed vertical movements and further emphasizes the dramatic allure of the triple-axis gravitational tourbillon.

A spherical sculpture depicting Mars (rather than the Astronomia Tourbillon’s staple sculpture of the Earth) dances around the watch’s dial, which displays the hours and minutes. Accompanying the sculpture of Mars is a Jacob-cut rubellite, whose 288 facets sparkle like a fiery sun against the deep blue, star-studded aventurine background. Between the sculpture of mars, the Jacob-cut rubellite, and the red movement finishing, red accents reign supreme in the penumbra of the black ceramic case.

As with all the models within the Astronomia collection, the Astronomia Black Ceramic’s sapphire dome case protects the dial as though it were a precious jewel, while the transparent sides offer a clear view of the timepiece’s complex movements.

The Astronomia Black Ceramic’s refined aesthetic sheds new light on the artistry of its gravitational triple axis tourbillon. The triple rotation ensures the extreme precision of the highly complicated timepiece.

Like a satellite following its trajectory in infinite space, the Astronomia Black Ceramic’s off-center dial, indicating the hours and minutes, rotates around the watch’s center axis in 10 minutes. Jacob & Co.’s exclusive JCAM24 caliber design, with its patented differential system, allows the dial to remain vertical throughout its revolution. The vertical positioning offers clear legibility of the time, which is further enhanced by the contrast of the watch’s rhodium-plated hands and red-accented Roman numerals.

The Astronomia Black Ceramic uses the capabilities of its exclusive movement to set a lacquered magnesium terrestrial planet and an exceptional 288-facet Jacob-cut rubellite in motion under its glass dome. The lacquered magnesium sculpture of Mars and Jacob-cut rubellite revolve around the tourbillon’s cage. The dial, indicating the hours and minutes, is also in perpetual motion, circling the watch’s face like a space station orbiting in a sidereal void.

Jacob & Co. Epic X Chrono Luis Figo Limited Edition

Luxury timepiece and diamond jewelry house, Jacob & Co. has partnered with football legend, Luis Figo, of Sporting Lisbon, FC Barcelona, and Real Madrid fame, and introduced three new limited edition timepieces during the international watch and jewelry fair, Baselworld 2018.

The Epic X Chrono Luis Figo Limited Edition watches, featuring Figo’s name engraved on the case back along with his applied signature, and his jersey number “10” in red on the dial’s rehaut, will be expansion upon the brand’s existing Epic X Chrono Collection.  The limited edition collection will offer only 110 pieces in total: 50 in rose gold, 30 in black DLC titanium, and 30 in titanium.

Figo, who previously wore the brand’s signature Epic SF 24 model as his timekeeping instrument of choice, has long admired Jacob & Co.’s Swiss-made creations for their bold style and advanced complications. It’s only natural that the limited edition pieces bearing the football star’s name also offer a daring twist that complements his taste.

The three timepiece designs boast with a 47-mm diameter in an 18-k carat rose gold, black DLC titanium or titanium case. The piece features a ceramic bezel, push buttons, and crown, as well as an openwork rubber wristband that is sure to captivate with its compelling design and dexterous contrast between high-tech and precious materials.

The watch’s robust case is water resistant to 200m, and houses a high-performance automatic chronograph movement: Jacob & Co.’s exclusive JCAA05 skeleton Bi Compax caliber and it’s 48- hour power reserve. It offers 260 components in total that render the Epic X Chrono an extraordinary watch; 27 rubies, a column wheel and anti-shock system; an anthracite grey rotor and red-lacquered engraved logo; angled, polished and circularly grained bridges and movement components visible through the smoked sapphire case back. The case back of the Luis Figo limited edition pieces are engraved with his name, while the dial’s rehaut features his jersey number – 10.

Aside from this dual visual signature, whose elegance mirrors the Portuguese player’s mastery, the watch’s dynamic nature is expressed through the presence of two additional counters on the dial, an inner rotational bezel controlled by a crown located at 10 o’clock and oversized push-buttons on either side of the setting crown.

Each version of this new Luis Figo Limited Edition Epic X Chrono is equipped with a black rubber wristband, which will allow football aficionados to time the games during this summer’s World Cup in Russia while also championing their penchant for a distinct style.

Jacob & Co. Astronomia Solar

Unveiled at Baselworld 2017, the Astronomia Solar wristwatch from Jacob & Co. displays eight planets of our solar system: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.

Made from 18 carat red gold, 44.5mm diameter case of the Astronomia Solar houses a movement of 34.55mm diameter and 439 components in constant bi-directional rotation and a representation of the solar system, enhancing even more the celestial reality.

The vertically built Jacob & Co. manufacture caliber JCAM19 has 3 arms. The first arm holds the hour & minute dial made of sapphire, it rotates counter-clockwise to ensure that 12 o’clock is always in the correct position, regardless of where the subdial is thanks to a patented differential system. The second arm holds two axes (10 min/60seconds) gravitational flying tourbillon decorated with a Jacob & Co. logo on its cage. The third arm holds an hand-engraved globe of the Earth rotating around its own axis in 60 seconds and completing one full revolution of the dial in 10 minutes.

The center of the movement is adorned with a Citrine Jacob cut® of approx. 1.5ct. The bi-directional movement rotates clockwise to complete a full 360 degree revolution in just ten minutes, the aventurine base rotates in the opposite direction at exactly the same speed, creating an accelerated, stylized view of the solar system.

The idea behind the Jacob & Co. Astronomia collection has always been to highlight, in a playful and suitably gem-set environment, the place of the Earth in our solar system.

In the Astronomia Solar, all eight planets in the solar system are given a place on the dial for the first time, with the sun at the center in the form of a 1.5ct Citrine with the unmistakable Jacob Cut® and its 288 facets.

The hand-engraved globe of the Earth rotates about its own axis once every 60 seconds and completes one full revolution of the dial in 10 minutes, as part of an assembly that also houses the subsidiary hour and minute dial and a one-minute flying tourbillon.

The reduced case size, new functions and faster rotation speed are all made possible by an entirely new in-house movement. The hand-wound Jacob & Co. calibre JCAM19 beats at a frequency of 4Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour), which is faster than any of the other Astronomia models. Yet in spite of its smaller diameter, at just 34.55mm, it actually comprises 439 components, excluding the precious and semi-precious stones, which is more than in the other Astronomia models.

Jacob & Co. Opera

The JACOB & CO. OPERA Musical Watch proudly houses two traditional Swiss crafts: a mechanical music box basting two cylinders and combs, and an exclusive Jacob & Co. JCFM02 manual-winding caliber.

In this new complication, the two cylinders and combs are mounted on the movement and rotate around the dial each time they play their melody. This works together with a triple-axis tourbillon and the subsidiary hour and minute dial.

The making of music boxes has been a traditional Swiss craft for hundreds of years. In the Opera Musical Watch, Jacob & Co. has combined this artisanal work with high watchmaking for the very first time, incorporating two cylinders and combs. The watch is able to play a 120-note melody never-before-heard in a musical watch.

Using a sophisticated one-piece sapphire crystal that encircles the whole timepiece, the mechanics of the Opera are put on display for all to see and allows the movement to deliver the purest sound.

A central flywheel drives the two cylinders, which is a real challenge for the movement due to the weight of the cylinders. A pusher located at two o’clock activates the rotation of the entire movement and simultaneously plays the 120-note melody. Each note is played as the tiny pins on the cylinder make contact with the individual teeth of the comb. As the cylinders turn to play the melody the entire assembly on which they are fixed, including the triple axis tourbillon and the hour and minute dial, rotates 120 degrees around the dial. The tourbillon rotates around its inner cage once in 40 seconds while its intermediates cage rotates in three minutes and its outer cage in eight minutes.

Finally, in order to display the time with 12 o’clock always in its correct position, a patented differential gear system is used; both the dial and the hands have to turn counter-clockwise. The manually wound caliber JCFM02 has been developed specifically for this complication, using titanium components for excellent sound propagation. The movement, which comprises 650 components, fits into a diameter of just 43mm. A pusher based at two o’clock on the middle of the case triggers the melody and thus the rotation of the movement. Regardless of whether or not the melody is playing, the triple axis tourbillon dances its round-the-clock mechanical ballet.

The Jacob & Co. Opera Musical Watch comes in two different versions: one 18-piece limited edition that is minimalist in its presentation with black and gold high end finishes showing the mechanical workings. The other is a unique version, which allows decorations on the cylinders. These decorations depict a romantic gala night with an orchestra.

Jacob & Co. Epic X Chrono

Launched at Baselworld 2013, the Epic X line from Jacob & Co. became synonymous with a sportive and active lifestyle. Now in 2017, it has been integrated into a new collection: The Epic X Chrono.

This new timepieces feature a 47mm case and a skeletonized automatic bi-compax chronograph. Boasting a column-wheel, the Epic X Chrono sets itself as a part of the most sophisticated high-end chronograph watches.

At the heart of the new Epic X Chrono models lies the Jacob & Co. JCAA05 skeletonized self-winding chronograph movement. This high-end chronograph caliber is equipped with a column wheel to launch the chronograph functions. Its counters are arranged in the so-called “bi-compax” format, with the small seconds of the running time on the left (at nine o’clock) and the elapsed minutes counter on the right (at three o’clock).

The elapsed seconds are read off of the central red chronograph second-hand once the red rubber pusher (at two o’clock) has activated the chronograph. As a practical additional function, the Epic X Chrono was created with a rotating inner bezel that can be controlled by pushing and turning a red rubber crown in the ten o’clock position, which will set a countdown timer. The movement has a self-winding mechanism and a power reserve of 48 hours. Its high-end finish can be admired through a transparent sapphire crystal case back.

The four models are distinguished by the use of high tech materials. The two models made in 18K rose gold have a white ceramic bezel and a choice of red or black rotating inner ring and chronograph counters.

A grade five DLC titanium version displays the sporty credentials of this chronograph, which comes with a red interior bezel to match the red rubber pushers. The all-black model with DLC-coated titanium, black ceramic bezel and contrasting red counters and pushers provides a motor sport look.

In all models, the open-worked movement can be seen through the red mineral crystal. For a customizable look, there is a range of colors in which the natural rubber straps are available: white, red and black with a honeycomb pattern.

A screw-down crown ensures water resistance up to 200 meters combined with the rubber elements qualifies the Jacob & Co. Chronograph for sport usage.

Jacob & Co. Astronomia Octopus

Inspired from the complex nature and symmetrical composition of Octopus, Jacob & Co. has created a unique edition of its Astronomia model: the Astronomia Octopus, which houses a hand-crafted sculpture of an octopus through the Astronomia’s signature gravitational triple-axis tourbillon.

Taking into consideration both the sophistication of the design and the comfort of the wearer, the intricately handcrafted sculpture of the Octopus is composed of titanium. While titanium is ideal for adorning the movement without adding significant weight to the piece (the octopus weighs just 2.83 grams) the material is notoriously difficult to engrave or sculpt, making it all the more difficult to bring the piece to life.

In the typical manner of an octopus, the sculpture appears fully entwined in the JCAM16 manually wound caliber. Its tentacles wind around the Earth, the sun, the time and the triple-axis tourbillon. The central part of the movement, where the octopus is screwed to the central axis so that it may revolve around the dial like all the other components, is too modified from the Astronomia collection’s prior models to accommodate the new gold-plated sculpture.

The first Astronomia model to include a sculpture in the core of its composition, the Astronomia Octopus is displayed as a true work of art, cased in a new sapphire monoblock casing that allows the sculpture and complications to be admired from multiple angles. The entirely transparent monoblock case was originally created for the brand’s limited addition Astronomia Flawless. In both models, it creates the illusion that the complications inside the timepiece are suspended in mid-air, as the only non-sapphire elements are the two bows on the back to wind the movement and set the time.

The sapphire components of the Astronomia Octopus take a staggering 37 weeks to produce and each component requires at least a dozen different operations in its production. This excludes the time it takes to engrave the piece and the octopus sculpture, as well as the time allocated to assemble and meticulously hand-finish the movements.

Since its initial launch just under three years ago, Jacob & Co.’s Astronomia Tourbillon has consistently evolved with the introduction of each new model. Because of the additional layer of complexity added by the octopus, the Astronomia Octopus is piece-unique.

Jacob & Co. Astronomia Flawless

Jacob & Co. blends the intricate world of high jewelry with that of haute horlogerie to introduce the latest addition to the brand’s signature Astronomia collection, the Astronomia Flawless.

While the timepiece offers an exquisite display of immaculate aesthetics, there is multifaceted meaning behind the new Astronomia’s name.

The large sapphire crystal has been a consistent design element of Jacob & Co.’s Astronomia collection since the introduction of the first Astronomia Tourbillon in 2014. The transparency of the case allows the movement of the gravitational triple axis tourbillon be clearly visible from multiple angles. Last year, Jacob & Co. increased the transparency of the case and the visibility of the Astronomia’s complications with the 2016 Baseworld novelty, the Astronomia Clarity. Nonetheless, in the spirit of constant improvement, the Astronomia Flawless again elevates the level of transparency offered by the Astronomia Clarity, with the introduction of the Astronomia Flawless’s monoblock sapphire crystal case. The sophisticated craftsmanship of the monoblock sapphire crystal creates the illusion that the complications within the case are floating effortlessly in midair.

To achieve this appearance, a number of the collection’s components that were previously produced in precious metal are instead made in sapphire crystal: the one-piece case middle and lugs, the dial (a blue-coloured sapphire) and even the buckle.

These changes have added a considerable layer of complexity to the new watch, as the production of the case middle alone requires 15 individual steps that account for around 326 hours of work, the case back requires around 297 hours of work, the dial 280 hours and the buckle 295 hours.  Due to long hours of work required in the production of each parts of this highly complex watch, for example its requires 37 weeks of production for just the sapphire components, only nine individually numbered pieces of the Astronomia Flawless will be made.

The manually wound JCAM16 caliber with its triple axis tourbillon, rotating earth and sun and subsidiary hour and minute dial has also evolved in the Astronomia Flawless. A rose-gold finish has been applied to the titanium bridges and the central axis is adorned with a 2.23-carat Jacob Cut® yellow diamonds representing the sun, in addition to the 1-carat diamond, which also has the 288 facets of the Jacob Cut®. Although the dial appears the same as on other Astronomia models, the dial on the Astronomia Flawless is actually made out of sapphire crystal and has been given a blue coating.

Jacob & Co. Twin Turbo – Twin Triple Axis Tourbillon Minute Repeater

Founded in 1986 in New York City, Jacob & Co. celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2016. To mark this milestone of innovation and excellence, the house is launching a Grande Complication watch model with a sporty style that is reflective of the brand’s expertise and youthful vigor.

Debuting for the first time at Baselworld this year, the Twin Turbo combines two triple-axis tourbillons and a minute-repeater. Through a poising system, the tourbillons maintain a consistent rate set at 40 seconds, 3 minutes and 8 minutes per cycle, turning symmetrically at a similar pace. With a deep-sounding and resonating chime, the minute repeater, featuring a cathedral gong, offers a modern approach to striking the hour – doing so every 10 minutes rather than abiding by watchmaking’s traditional 15 minute time frame. A safety system is also in place to prevent it from striking while setting the time.

A rarity for a Grande Complication, the two tourbillons and minute repeater are housed into a uniquely shaped watchcase, equipped with 63 components. Its sporty look combines titanium and carbon in its exterior, making it ultra lightweight. Inspired by an extraordinary automotive design, its flange is trimmed in red neoralithe and the smoked sapphire crystal opens onto its impressive motor featuring two triple-axis tourbillons.

The transparent case back reveals an abstract architecture of triangles in openwork metal. A symbol of stability, spirituality and determination, this motif, dear to the founder Jacob Arabo, is iconic within the house of Jacob & Co.

Jacob & Co. Caviar Emerald Tourbillon

The Caviar Emerald embodies Jacob & Co.’s drive to stop at nothing in its quest to create masterpieces of incomparable beauty.

The 47mm hand-wound wristwatch represents the fruit of two years of tireless search for emeralds worthy of this ambitious project. Focused on finding emeralds of perfect dimensions and of a thrilling, radiant green, the watchmaker scoured the globe to assemble a collection of gems with perfect color homogeneity so as to accomplish its stunning final goal. The brand then took on the challenge, considered unachievable by conventional wisdom, of showcasing the emeralds with an invisible setting covering the entire timepiece. Achieved through 12 months of meticulous and delicate gem-setting artistry, the setting presents a sea of exquisite emeralds flowing into one another without a glimpse of human intervention, as if they were spreading naturally from the center of the dial before effortlessly enveloping the contours of the 18K white gold case.

Admired for millennia as symbols of love and eternal life, emeralds now adorn a timepiece befitting their unique resplendence. Surrounding an aperture in the dial through which the wearer is treated to a revelation of the JCBM05 caliber’s flying tourbillon, 140 baguette emeralds work as one to create an entrancing green hue of magnificent intensity. On the round case, 232 additional baguette emeralds, also invisibly set, extend the outward-spreading design and enrich the emanating effect, giving the impression that no structure even exists beneath them. A rose-cut emerald on the crown, framed by 16 additional gems, punctuates the exhibition of light and colour. Beneath the fabulous display beats a mechanical movement deserving of the masterful ornamentation.

The hand-wound caliber, which may be further admired through a sapphire crystal caseback, complements its one-minute flying tourbillon with a titanium balance, anti-shock system and 100-hour power reserve. Composed of 169 parts, the movement drives a two-hand dial display at a frequency of 21,600vph.

The strap’s tang buckle, in 18K white gold, completes the luxurious exhibition with an additional setting of 36 baguette emeralds. Created as a unique piece, the Emerald Caviar combines the apex of the jewelry arts and mechanical watchmaking in wearing its unforgettable beauty on the inside and outside alike.
