HAUTLENCE HL SPHERE 02 Limited Edition

Reconnecting with its original identity by going back to basics, Swiss luxury watch brand HAUTLENCE continues to revolutionise the hour display by giving time a new dimension with the HL SPHERE 02, equipped with the eighth manufacture calibre of the brand. Following on from the jumping hour disc and the half-trailing hour chain, it now presents a jumping hour that spins on a sphere.

HAUTLENCE HL SPHERE 02 Limited Edition

A blue sphere occupies the left-hand portion of the case, magnificently showcased by a sapphire crystal with a small dome, attracting everyone’s attention. It features twelve engraved numerals and rotates on itself through three rotation axes to reveal the current hour. This hypnotic dance, which initially appears totally random, actually follows a strict choreography, dictated by a conical differential including four conical gears that move around two crossed spindles inclined at an angle of 21 degrees. Two polished titanium cases featuring a blue PVD treatment adorn this tri-dimensional complex system to form a sphere.

HAUTLENCE HL SPHERE 02 Limited Edition

To the right of the sphere is a retrograde minute display with a hand that travels along a fine and elegant minute track that opens onto the movement and partly reveals the balance. This aperture brings the gear train into view, which slows down the course of the minute hand when it returns to zero, regulating its speed so as to reduce impact forces.

HAUTLENCE HL SPHERE 02 Limited Edition

The differential and snail used to trigger the jumping hour can also be seen beneath the minute hand. The minute track and the applied diamond-polished and metal blue minute numerals are fixed to an intermediary rose gold grained dial. The design of this dial adds a delicate vintage touch to the HL SPHERE 02, contrasting with the utterly contemporary look of this creation.

HAUTLENCE HL SPHERE 02 Limited Edition

The white gold case of the HL SPHERE 02 adopts HAUTLENCE’s signature TV screen shape. With its balanced proportions, the HL SPHERE 02 model is compact and can be worn in any occasion, sitting perfectly on the wrist. An alligator-leather strap, in the same blue shade as the sphere, adds the final touch to the piece.

HAUTLENCE HL SPHERE 02 Limited Edition

The HTL 501-1 hand-wound calibre beats at the heart of the HL SPHERE 02 model. Entirely developed, designed and produced by HAUTLENCE’s watchmakers, this movement is the perfect culmination of technical and aesthetic expertise.

HAUTLENCE HL SPHERE 02 Limited Edition

The skeletonised balance bridge allows the owner to admire the oscillations of the proprietary balance spring produced by Precision Engineering AG, HAUTLENCE’s sister company. The equally skeletonised drum and ratchet reveal the barrel spring, thereby providing a simple yet ingenious visual indication of the power reserve.

HAUTLENCE HL2.3 PUNK

Cementing its status as the “enfant terrible” of watchmaking, HAUTLENCE takes rebellion to the next level with the HL2.3 PUNK model. Reinterpreting the signature case associated with the calibre HL2.0, with its three sapphire crystals cut from solid blocks, HAUTLENCE has taken the unconventional step of adding 84 studs of 14 different sizes to symbolically represent the Punk ethos.

Inspired by the legendary Perfecto jacket, HAUTLENCE is embodying personal liberty, daring to mix genres to create an haute horlogerie watch which boldly proclaims its individuality.

Above the speed regulator which ensures that the hours display changes smoothly via the half-trailing hours chain, HAUTLENCE has replaced the traditional MOEBIUS symbol with the “Circle-A” of the Libertarian movement, which advocates for absolute freedom, denying any principle of authority and rejecting all constraints.

The HL2.3 PUNK is driven by the calibre HL2.0, which combines the jumping hour, which is half-trailing, the retrograde minute – the brand’s signature – and the power reserve indication. Constructed around the retrograde minutes, the jumping hour is formed of a chain comprising twelve links.

The retrograde minutes are displayed on a sector set over 180°. A clever mechanism ensures this assembly moves with control, thereby preventing any accidental impacts linked to its operation.

Each hour, as the chain moves, the bridge-type movement rotates through 60°, enabling it to compensate for the effects of gravity on the regulating organ. To ensure it has sufficient energy, the main barrel, which is charged by the automatic system, winds a second barrel which drives the display complication.

With a sleek ergonomic design, featuring contemporary mechanical architecture backed with an ethos of rebellion, the HL2.3 PUNK model links back to the brand’s founding principle: to create different ways of displaying the time.

The HL2.3 PUNK is a unique piece which will be available in other materials.

HAUTLENCE HL SPHERE

To mark Baselworld 2019, HAUTLENCE is presenting its eighth manufacture calibre and launching an exceptional timepiece: the HL SPHERE.

HAUTLENCE is reconnecting with its original identity by going back to basics and offering an innovative way to display the time. Following on from the jumping hour disc and the half-trailing
hour chain, it now presents a jumping hour that spins on a sphere.

A blue sphere occupies the left-hand portion of the case, magnificently showcased by a sapphire crystal with a small dome, attracting everyone’s attention. It features twelve engraved numerals and rotates on itself through three rotation axes to reveal the current hour. This hypnotic dance, which initially appears totally random, actually follows a strict choreography, dictated by four conical gears that move around two crossed spindles inclined at an angle of 21 degrees. Two polished titanium cases featuring a blue PVD treatment adorn this conical differential to create a yin and yang watchmaking composition that forms a sphere.

The differential and snail used to trigger the jumping hour can also be seen beneath the minute hand.

The minute track and the applied silvered diamond-polished minute numerals are fixed to an intermediary sapphire crystal dial with a smoked metallic finish that adds to the piece’s transparency.

The white gold case of the HL SPHERE adopts HAUTLENCE’s signature TV screen shape. Reworked to reinterpret the brand’s signature codes, the case has been enlarged and equipped with a wider opening on the dial, to truly highlight the complication. With its balanced proportions, the HL SPHERE model sits perfectly on the wrist. The white gold notched crown, engraved with the HAUTLENCE logo, is used to wind the watch and set the time. An alligator-leather strap, in the same blue shade as the sphere, adds the final touch to the piece.

The HTL 501-1 hand-wound calibre beats at the heart of the HL SPHERE model. Entirely developed, designed and produced by HAUTLENCE’s watchmakers, this movement is the perfect culmination of technical and aesthetic expertise.

The reliable HTL 501-1 calibre is fitted with a safety mechanism that prevents incorrect manipulation during reverse time setting, leading the movement to simply rotate freely without any risk of damaging the mechanism.

Hautlence HL Vagabonde 03

Presented at SIHH 2019, the HL Vagabonde 03 boasts a blue dial, which is paired with titanium to create a timepiece with an ultra-contemporary look. In a case made from grade 5 titanium, the HTL 205-1 self-winding calibre moves the three hour satellites which gravitate around the central minute wheel. In a hypnotic dance, the open-worked discs reveal the hours when they are correctly aligned.

This is the third model equipped with this movement, which was developed by the HAUTLENCE team and launched in 2018. It is a modern reinterpretation of the famous star wheel systems, named after the star-shaped cogs which drive the discs.

Creating new ways of reading the time has been HAUTLENCE’s vocation since its creation in 2004. The HL Vagabonde 03 model is firmly in line with this philosophy. Set on different levels, four discs add volume to the base dial, which is deep blue and decorated with a filigree honeycomb pattern. The largest disc, made from sapphire, also features HAUTLENCE’s signature motif in its centre, and displays the minutes on a 240° sector.

Orbiting around this central point, and spread out across the dial in perfect harmony, are three smaller skeletonised discs, open-worked to allow the hour numerals to be seen once they come into the correct alignment. HAUTLENCE has chosen a font which resembles digital numerals made mechanical.

Great care has been taken to ensure the finishes are in line with the very exacting standards of the Neuchâtel-based brand. The intermediate dial, made from sapphire, and the openworked hour discs, required great technical skill and precision.

The HL Vagabonde 03 model is a symphony in blue. Highlighting the minute display sector, a thin white line contours the disc. The 240° angle of the sector ensures outstanding technical precision. Driving the rotation of the discs, the HTL 205-1 bidirectional self-winding movement guarantees a minimum power reserve of three days.

Made from grade 5 titanium, the case on the HL Vagabonde 03 model adopts the TV screen shape favoured by HAUTLENCE. Reworked to reinterpret the brand’s signature codes, the case has been enlarged and equipped with a wider opening on the dial, to truly highlight the complication. With its balanced proportions, the HL Vagabonde 03 model sits perfectly on the wrist. The fluted crown is made from polished grade 5 titanium and is engraved with the HAUTLENCE logo.

A blue alligator leather strap with full square scales adds a distinctly masculine finishing touch.

Hautlence HL Vagabonde Tourbillon

The dial of the HL Vagabonde Tourbillon features a central disc, three satellites, and a one-minute flying tourbillon at 6 o’clock. As they perform their fascinating waltz, the three discs which gravitate around the central minute wheel reveal the hours, while the tourbillon, equipped with a double hairspring, performs its own dance. This creation is driven by a new self-winding calibre, the HTL 405-1, developed from the HMC 804 movement created by H. Moser & Cie., HAUTLENCE’s sister company.

At the heart of an intense blue dial, four discs are set on different levels, their eternal dance illustrating the passage of time. The central disc, made from sapphire adorned with HAUTLENCE’s signature HONEYCOMB pattern, displays the minutes in a 240° sector, allowing these to be read with great accuracy. Orbiting around this central point, and spread out across the dial in perfect harmony, are three smaller skeleton discs, open-worked to allow the hour numerals to be seen once they come into the correct alignment. The font used for the hours has been chosen to resemble digital numerals made mechanical.

Both the sapphire disc and the open-worked hour discs took great technical skill and precision to manufacture and to finish. The entire base dial, made from blue PVD, has been microblasted. The satellite discs have a sunray finish, while the central disc features an anti-reflective coating on both sides and a filigree HONEYCOMB pattern. The tourbillon bridge is skeletonised, offering an unobstructed view of the flying tourbillon and its double hairspring.

For the HL Vagabonde Tourbillon model, HAUTLENCE has paired deep blue with 5N red gold, creating a combination which exudes a rare elegance. The case of the HL Vagabonde Tourbillon, adopting the TV screen favoured by the Neuchâtel brand, is made from 5N red gold, as are the bezel and fluted crown, engraved with the HAUTLENCE logo. The hour and minute numerals feature 5N varnish. Highlighting the minute display sector, a thin 5N transfer line contours the disc.

Driving the rotation of the discs, the bidirectional self-winding HTL 405-1 movement guarantees a minimum power reserve of 3 days. This manufacture calibre is equipped with a one-minute flying tourbillon with a double hairspring, all of which have been manufactured in-house by Precision Engineering AG, HAUTLENCE’s sister company.

HAUTLENCE

HAUTLENCE is a Swiss luxury watch brand based at Neuchâtel, the historic capital of the land of watchmaking. Neuchâtel has a tradition of precision and innovation. The surrounding area has accrued a great deal of experience, which has contributed to Neuchâtel’s reputation for quality, in terms of advanced technology & authentic craftsmanship making the world of manufacturing procedures a unique & passionate play field for HAUTLENCE. Neuchâtel is the true cradle of modern watchmaking. In its constant search for identity and performance, the new brand has decided to unite its destiny with the capital by taking an anagram of Neuchâtel for its name – HAUTLENCE.

HAUTLENCE came into being on the initiative of Renaud de Retz, Guillaume Tetu, with Jean Plazenet, Jean- Christophe Chopin and Alain de Forges. Whether from the world of watchmaking or other precision industries, these enthusiasts have joined forces, shared their rich respective entrepreneurial and industrial experiences, and come together to develop products that conform to a shared philosophy of watchmaking.

In 2012, MELB family holding company, owned by Georges-Henri Meylan and his family acquired the entire capital of HAUTLENCE.

The Atelier d’horlogerie contemporaine HAUTLENCE
The atelier d’horlogerie contemporaine HAUTLENCE consists of watchmakers, designers and engineers, supported by the incredible watch industry talent from the Neuchâtel region. Its focus is to explore new avenues in time display. The research and development team is dedicated to creating exclusive, original and entirely in-house developed horological content, with all parts made by the best craftsmen from the region.

Once assembled on the workbenches, all these components are meticulously checked one by one and then patiently assemble. A watchmaker will then assemble all the parts for hours, days and sometimes weeks, in order to life to a timepiece. All are works of art designed and produced in limited numbers; HAUTLENCE watches stem from a global reflection on the theme of the golden section and on achieving perfectly balanced forms. They are pieces of pure horological architecture.

HAUTLENCE is currently defined in terms of three separate worlds, all related to architecture and design, while nurturing the inseparable ties between form and function:-

  • CONCEPTS D’EXCEPTION – Dedicated to Pioneering Mechanical Watchmaking: These models are the outcome of out-of-the box thinking, which leads to fantastic ideas that other industries refer to as concepts. Several years are required to develop and mature these exceptional products that showcase the expertise and creative cultivated by HAUTLENCE. The ultra-exclusive concepts developed in a pioneering spirit that takes the brand far off the beaten track, are able to catch the eye of the most demanding collector. (Series: HL2.0).
  • ORIGINE – Dedicated to Architecture, Industrial Aesthetics: The Origine collection represents the architectural DNA of HAUTLENCE. The integration of the calibre within the shape of the case is thus an inspired balance between aesthetic desires and technical and industrial constraints. Like architecture, this renders elegant that which is useful and this purity reveals the timeless nature of the object. (Series: HL, HLQ, HLQ Classic, HLC and Destination).
  • AVANT-GARDE – A Nod to Contemporary Design, Ergonomics: Offering a contemporary interpretation of ergonomic shapes and a choice of innovative materials, AVANT-GARDE enriches the brand range while addressing a new clientele. It embodies a renewed expression of mechanical codes, as well as the use of materials and shapes made possible by new advanced technologies. (Series: HLRS, HLRQ).

HAUTLENCE has thus far equipped all its models with in-house developed and assembled calibres under the “ATELIER” label. While the development of its own movements is an integral part of the brand DNA and will continue to be so, HAUTLENCE has made no secret of its interest in external cooperative endeavours on certain lines. Under the “SIGNATURE” commercial label, the brand now offers models equipped with externally sourced movements. DESTINATION, the new line presented at Baselworld 2013, was the first to be equipped with an existing movement – in this instance a Soprod 9351 movement.

HAUTLENCE timepieces are created and produced in keeping with the finest Swiss watchmaking traditions and are stamped on the caseback with the inscription “Horlogerie Suisse”. Apart from the straps, certain high -tech parts and the sapphire crystals, all parts are indeed developed, produced, decorated and assembled in Switzerland, including 90% in Canton Neuchâtel.

Hautlence HL Vagabonde 01 & 02

The HL Vagabonde, available in two versions, from Neuchâtel watch brand HAUTLENCE takes its inspiration from satellite systems. Three discs, open-worked to display the hours, orbit around the central minute disc. This timepiece houses a new self-winding calibre, the HTL 205-1, developed from the HMC200 movement created by H. Moser & Cie., HAUTLENCE’s sister company.

Set on different levels, four discs add volume to the dial, which provides a deep black background. The largest, made of sapphire adorned with HAUTLENCE’s signature HONEYCOMB pattern, displays the minutes within a 240° sector. Orbiting around this central point, and spread out across the dial in perfect harmony, are three smaller skeleton discs, open-worked to allow the hour numerals to be seen once they come into the correct alignment. The font used for the hours has been chosen to resemble digital numerals made mechanical.  Certain components required cutting edge expertise. Manufacturing and finishing the intermediate sapphire dial, shaped from sapphire, and the open-worked hours discs, took advanced technical skill and precision.

The HL Vagabonde model is available in a choice of two versions. The HL Vagabonde 01, a classic monochrome version, which showcases tones of grey, black and white, and the HL Vagabonde 02, a more sporty and dynamic version in black and vibrant orange. Highlighting the minute display sector, a thin white or orange line contours the disc. The 240° angle of the sector ensures outstanding precision from a technical point of view.

Driving the rotation of the discs, the HTL 205-1 bidirectional self-winding movement guarantees a minimum power reserve of 3 days. HAUTLENCE has made modular developments to a manufacture movement created by H. Moser & Cie. to create the calibre HTL 205-1, a beautiful version of the mechanism.

Made from titanium or DLC-coated titanium, the HL Vagabonde case boasts the TV screen shape so dear to HAUTLENCE. The case has been specially reworked for these pieces, reinterpreting the brand’s signature codes. Enlarged and equipped with a wider opening on the dial, it truly showcases the complication. With its balanced proportions, the HL Vagabonde model sits perfectly on the wrist. The fluted crown is made from polished grade 5 or DLC-coated titanium, and is engraved with the HAUTLENCE logo. A black alligator leather strap with full square scales adds a very masculine finishing touch.

Hautlence HL Kinetic Table Clock

As a prelude to its plan to unveil a new grand complication movement next year, HAUTLENCE has created the HL Kinetic table clock, which reveals part of this new mechanism. The HL Kinetic displays the hours and minutes via open-worked spheres which move inside two transparent columns. The Neuchâtel brand has thus added a fifth dimension to its collection: ‘Objets d’exception’ joins the ‘Atelier’, ‘Concept d’exception’, ‘Signature’ and ‘Playground’ categories.

Two independent transparent columns sit on the table. Each one contains a black rotating sphere featuring skeletonised hour and minute numerals. Rotating around a central axis, the spheres appear to move randomly. In reality, however, they follow a highly precise pattern. Thanks to a three-dimensional differential with four bevel gears, the spheres rotate around two intertwined axes in a hypnotic dance. This fully mechanical system is powered by a rechargeable lithium battery that provides a power reserve of one and a half months. The spheres execute one complete increment when the hour changes. Their dance can also be activated for approximately ten minutes using a demo button.

Setting the time on the columns is beautifully intuitive. The two objects can be arranged as desired – either close together or further apart – with each one functioning independently. HAUTLENCE’s signature, the Moebius symbol, sits proudly atop each glass tube on a piece that represents the new dimension adopted by the brand: Objets d’exception.

The HL Kinetic table clock is a precursor designed to herald HAUTLENCE’s new complication movement, which will be launched in 2019. This hand-wound movement will use a sphere to display the hours.

Hautlence HL Newton

With the HL Newton model, the Neuchâtel based independent luxury Swiss watch brand HAUTLENCE has added a new calibre to its collection, featuring an idiosyncratic reworking of the jumping hour mechanism that introduces a new time display principle. Using a system based on gravitational force, the HL Newton indicates the time only when required. The watch enters mechanical standby mode whenever the passing minutes are of no interest.

Equipped with a new self-winding manufacture calibre, the HL Newton timepiece uses the jumping hour principle, with the caveat that the usual criteria have been entirely revisited by the Neuchâtel brand. Instead of the hour jumping in a static window, HAUTLENCE opted for a moving window that approaches the hour numeral. It all happens under the effect of gravity, using a mobile window supported on three bearings with an off-centre weight.

On a mechanical level, a central wheel skeletonised in the form of the famous Moebius symbol, drives the blued minute hand, which is tipped with a white arrow. It also actuates the silvered opaline disc featuring the skeletonised hours. While the hours and minutes follow their inexorable trajectory, a mobile central flange with a blue DLC coating is driven by a snail, which performs a full revolution every 60 minutes.

This weighted flange, which bears the brand’s logo, features the minute track numerals and a window that displays the time, when desired by the wearer. The flange then moves to the correct location, bringing the window to the hour and the minute track opposite the hand. The movement is gentle, thanks to a brake that prevents shocks. When the wrist is in a random position, the time is not visible and the minute track is out of phase with the minute hand’s travel.

The HL Newton model features the TV screen shape so dear to HAUTLENCE. The titanium case has been specially reworked for these pieces, reinterpreting the brand’s signature codes. Enlarged and equipped with a wider opening on the dial, it truly showcases the complication while preserving the harmonious proportions.

The fluted crown is made from titanium and bears the engraved HAUTLENCE logo. The opaline base dial is equipped with silvered inserts engraved with the brand’s characteristic HONEYCOMB pattern, which adds a second layer to the dial. An alligator leather strap with full square scales in the same shade of blue as the mobile window adds the finishing touch.

HAUTLENCE VORTEX GAMMA TRON

Taking its name and inspiration from Steven Lisberger’s 1982 cult film TRON, the HAUTLENCE Vortex Gamma Tron is made with a revolutionary composite material hailing from the automotive and aerospace industry: HLLightColor. Charged with ceramic nanotube particles, HLLightColor can be body tinted rather than coated with colour. It can also be made phosphorescent, something which immediately appealed to HAUTLENCE, with the brand using it to accentuate the architectural lines of the case and further underline the references to the graphic universe of science-fiction classic TRON.

This highly stylised graphic universe, which employs a range of visual effects, inspired the lines of the Vortex Gamma Tron case, composed of six 3D sapphire crystals. Playing with the contrasts of colours — white for the case and blue for its edges — and light, with the outlines of its edges glowing in the dark, HAUTLENCE pays tribute to the iconic style of TRON. The Vortex Gamma Tron undergoes a metamorphosis when the light fades, including the brand’s Möbius symbol which also glows at the centre of the dial, turning on itself with each new hour.

The retrograde minute dial, varnished white and adorned with azure numerals, offers a large window onto the HL2.0 self-winding calibre which drives the Vortex Gamma Tron. Each of the 12 articulated links in the jumping hour chain features one of 12 white numerals.

The feature at the heart of the movement, the chain turns every 60 minutes, taking 3-4 seconds to move gently, with control, to avoid any shocks or loss of energy, whilst leaving enough time to admire the beauty of the movement and its mechanisms in action. The regulating organ is integrated into the mobile bridge-type calibre, with the change in position actuated by the display improving accuracy by statistically offsetting the effects of gravity.

The calibre HL2.0 is equipped with two barrels. The second barrel, dedicated exclusively to driving the complication, is continually reset by the main barrel, so that the optimal level of energy is available each time the hour changes. This double barrel system ensures the complex mechanisms are supplied independently, without affecting the watch’s ability to keep accurate time.

For the Vortex Gamma Tron strap, HAUTLENCE has opted for a high-tech loose-knit fabric, in white with blue top-stitching to match the colour codes of this model.

HAUTLENCE VORTEX GAMMA

Swiss luxury watch brand HAUTLENCE offers a unique technicolor experience with its latest timepiece, the Vortex Gamma, placing chromatics at the very core of this exceptional creation. Featuring a new and exclusive vibrant case material that can take on any color or shade, the Vortex Gamma allows for an unprecedented bespoke experience and a truly personalized setting for the HL2.0 in-house movement.

For this new horology art piece, HAUTLENCE has chosen a revolutionary composite material borrowed from the automotive and aerospace industries. Charged with ceramic nanotube particles, the HL LightColor is endowed with properties identical to those a conventional watch industry metal, while being four times lighter than titanium. It is machined with the same precision and to within the same tolerances, thus enabling extremely complex finishing operations, such as those featured on the case of the Vortex Gamma with its alternating brushed, polished and bead-blasted surfaces. In addition to this remarkable technological appearance, this material opens up boundless aesthetic possibilities. The HL LightColor is body tinted and enables HAUTLENCE to play with the entire Pantone colour spectrum, to the delight of its clients, who are now able to order custom-made models.

In designing the case of the Vortex Gamma, composed of six three-dimensional sapphire crystals, HAUTLENCE has drawn inspiration from the TRON style, stemming from the eponymous sci-fi film directed by Steven Lisberger in 1982. Playing with visual effects showcasing luminescent shapes representing integrated circuits, TRON has given rise to an extremely graphic universe. Through this style and by placing colour in the spotlight, HAUTLENCE magnificently enhances the architectural lines of the Vortext case, accentuating them through a striking set of contrasting effects.

The minutes dial, made of almost completely transparent sapphire, offers a broad view of the HL2.0 caliber powering the Vortex Gamma. As the guiding thread of this model, colour also makes an appearance on the 12 links of the half-trailing hours chain, the key movement function. The mechanical automatic HL2.0 calibre is protected by three HAUTLENCE patents. The first concerns the half-trailing hours chain: every 60 seconds, the chain turns in three to four seconds, in a controlled and smooth manner that effectively avoids shocks and energy losses, while allowing time to admire the beauty of the movement and the mechanisms in action. The second patent relates to the regulating organ integrated into the mobile bridge movement. Its constantly changing position, driven by the display, compensates statistically for the effect of gravity, enhancing its precision. The third patent relates to the contribution of the movement’s two barrels.

The second barrel, devoted exclusively to driving the complication, is continually rearmed by the main barrel, so as to ensure optimal energy with each hours change. This twin-barrel system makes it possible to power complex mechanisms independently and without influencing the timekeeping precision of the watch.

HAUTLENCE INVICTUS Vida Loca Choppers Chronograph Limited Edition

HAUTLENCE has joined hands with Swiss custom bike maker Vida Loca Choppers to launch the limited edition INVICTUS Vida Loca Choppers chronograph, limited to just 28 pieces.

With its mocking sneer, the stylised skull – the Vida Loca Choppers logo – appears to float weightlessly on top of the base dial. Its crown shows its colours. The skull reigns supreme in the centre of the dial, framed by two honeycomb inserts on a black and green background. At the heart of the titanium case, measuring 42 x 49 x14 mm, throbs an automatic chronograph movement, beating at 28,800 vibrations/hour.

Perfected to the very last detail, the timepiece is paired with a black “hornback” crocodile leather strap with green top-stitching.

This Rock ‘n’ Roll project arose out of a meeting between Joachim Besomi (master watchmaker at HAUTLENCE and passionate biker), Sébastien Mottier (one of the owners of Vida Loca Choppers), and Manu Vionnet (the founder of Vida Loca Choppers).

The partnership between HAUTLENCE and Vida Loca Choppers was an immediate and obvious connection, based on shared values: both brands want to break the rules, push the boundaries and create something unique; both have a passion for fine mechanics and design; both have a rebellious streak and a quirky style.

HAUTLENCE PLAYGROUND LABYRINTH

In this world of connected smart watches, HAUTLENCE is introducing the Playground collection whose intention is not to tell the time but stop the time. Through the Playground collection, HAUTLENCE brings new chronometric element to the table, extending beyond the original goal of telling time. In an increasingly connected world where everything, including the time, is available at the push of a button, the Playground collection plays with the idea of absolute disconnect.

LABYRINTH is the first model from this collection, a useless yet entirely essential object: a game of skill worn on the wrist, a portable labyrinth requiring absolute concentration and skill.

LABYRINTH may not tell the time; however, it is perfectly aligned with the excellence in watchmaking that is embedded in HAUTLENCE’s DNA. Moving the crown activates a clever mechanical lift, which feeds the ball onto the board using a camshaft system visible through the transparent backing. The maze-like dial is carved in solid gold with a forged platinum ball. The titanium case is rectangular, going back to the brand’s roots.

HAUTLENCE – Tourbillon 02 &Tourbillon 03

Contemporary watchmaker HAUTLENCE enlarges its newly unveiled Tourbillon collection with the addition of two new editions, the Tourbillon 02 and Tourbillon 03. Just like the Tourbillon 01 presented in October 2015, these two elegant timepieces are powered by H. Moser & Cie.’s exclusive Calibre Tourbillon HMC 802, equipped with a dual-time function, one minute tourbillon, three-day power reserve and automatic winding system.

Inspired by the design of the very first HL05 timepieces, the Tourbillon 02 and 03 follow the aesthetics of the Tourbillon 01, but come in new colour schemes. Housed in a round 44mm grade 5 titanium and steel case, the eye-catching Tourbillon 02 flaunts blue PVD-coated hour and minute hands, numerals and hour markers. The luxurious Tourbillon 03’s case is crafted out of grade 5 titanium and 18-carat pink gold, elegantly matching the red gold-plated numerals, HAUTLENCE logo, hands and hour markers on the dial.

HAUTLENCE  Tourbillon 02

Both of these new editions showcase HAUTLENCE’s signature three-dimensional dial. Built on several layers, the dial highlights a rhodium dial base embellished with Côtes de Genève. The numerals and hour markers seem to be floating above the dial thanks to the inclusion of an intermediate sapphire crystal dial, creating a mesmerising structural effect.

In addition to displaying a tourbillon at six o’clock, the timepieces also indicate a second time zone through a smaller hour
hand that is hidden behind the main hour hand. The second time zone
hand remains out of sight as long as the dual-time function is not in
use, staying below the hour hand as it rotates around the dial.

HAUTLENCE Tourbillon 03

Powering the timepieces is the Calibre HMC 802, an automatic movement manufactured in-house by H. Moser &  Cie., the  Schaffhausen-based  watchmaker  owned  by  the  Meylan  family  company,  MELB  Holding.  The movement comes equipped with a regulating organ produced by Precision Engineering AG (PEAG), a company also  part  of  MELB  Holding  that  specialises  in  developing  and  building  high-quality  escapement  components. Each  of  the  movement’s  parts  have  been  finished  and decorated  by  hand,  contributing  to  making  the timepieces beautiful from the inside out.

HAUTLENCE INVICTUS 04

Swiss luxury watch brand HAUTLENCE introduces its sporty and elegant INVICTUS chronograph in an eye-catching red and black colour scheme, perpetuating the invincible ‘gentlemen rebels’ spirit that is embodied within the state-of-the-art collection.

The INVICTUS 04 is powered by the same skeletonised movement as the INVICTUS Morphos, HAUTLENCE’s first chronograph launched in 2014, designed in collaboration with its dynamic ambassador, Eric Cantona.

Remaining true to HAUTLENCE’s avant-garde approach to design, the dial is built on several levels, resulting in a striking three-dimensional effect. The dial highlights an opaline black dial base embellished with HAUTLENCE’s signature honeycomb motif on a varnished red background, giving the timepiece a distinctive sporty look.

A sapphire crystal intermediate dial with powdered silver-toned print completes the dial design and is offset by white Super-LumiNova®-coated hour and minute hands, numerals and hour markers. The rest of the dial portrays the chronograph counters and a date window. Both beautiful and functional, this complex dial construction ensures excellent readability while bringing immense depth to the timepiece.

The INVICTUS 04 features a case middle and horns crafted out of bead-blasted grade 2 titanium, beautifully matching the black PVD-coated steel bumpers, bezel, push-buttons and crown. The steel screws securing the case stand out in contrast, accentuating the sportiness of the watch.

The INVICTUS 04 is available with a choice of a black Louisiana rubberised alligator leather strap with red topstitching or a black rubber strap, both fitted with a grade 2 titanium folding clasp with a satin-finish steel plate.

HAUTLENCE HL 2.6 – The Sixth Edition of HL 2.0

Independent Swiss luxury watch brand HAUTLENCE reinterprets its revolutionary HL 2.0 in a new 18-carat 5N+ red gold version, featuring the collection’s signature half-trailing jumping hours on a chain, retrograde minutes, power reserve indicator and mesmerising mechanism.

Like all its innovative predecessors, the HL 2.6 remains true to the collection’s dynamic way of displaying time, offering a three-dimensional dial that brings immense depth to the timepiece. Built on two levels, the lower sapphire crystal dial is embellished with semi-opaque metallised black and black-varnished opaque areas while the upper sapphire crystal dial indicates the hour markers and minutes in luminescent white. The hour numerals and minutes hand are plated with 4N pink gold, recalling the luxurious colour of the red gold case. Just as beautifully crafted as the dial, the ergonomic case provides a view of the heart of the timepiece through three three-dimensional sapphire crystals.

Powered by the innovative calibre HL 2.0, the HL 2.6 displays the retrograde minutes on a 180° sector of the dial and the hours through a 12-link chain that moves forward each 60 minutes to indicate the hour. Right before the change of the hour, the retrograde minute hand returns back to zero, activating in turn the hour chain, with the entire mechanism rotating 60 degrees to change the position of the regulating organ. The kinematics of the movement are structured three-dimensionally through the use of special bevelled gears, thus giving the timepiece a truly impressive design.

Launched in 2011, calibre HL 2.0 took four years of development to bring to life due to its mechanical complexity. Protected by three patents, this ground-breaking calibre was HAUTLENCE’s first in-house automatic movement and contributed to establishing HAUTLENCE among the most prestigious contemporary watchmakers.

The HL 2.6, limited to 28 timepieces, benefits from the movement’s set of patents. The first patent pertains to the 12-link chain of the half-trailing hours, whichsmoothly advances in 3 to 4 seconds every 60 minutes to display the hour. Such a system differs from an instant system that switches the hours too fast for one to truly appreciate and from a dragging system whereby time cannot be easily read between the hours. The second patent relates to the regulating organ integrated into the mobile bridge-type movement. Its constantly changing position, driven by the display, compensates statistically for the effects of gravity, thus enhancing its precision.

The third patent is linked to the operation of the movement’s two barrels. The main barrel is wound by the automatic-winding system of the movement and transfers the necessary energy to wind a second barrel that is dedicated exclusively to driving the complication. The main barrel continuously winds the second barrel so as to ensure that energy remains at an optimal level to change each hour. This ensures that these complex systems remain powered independently without impacting the precision of the watch.

HAUTLENCE VORTEX PRIMARY – In Partnership with Eric Cantona

Independent Swiss luxury watchmaker HAUTLENCE cements its partnership with its dynamic ambassador, ex-footballer Eric Cantona, with the launch of a new multi-coloured and three-dimensional VORTEX PRIMARY. Unveiled at this year’s edition of the prestigious Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH), the VORTEX PRIMARY combines Cantona’s strong passion for art with HAUTLENCE’s unique reinterpretation of time, resulting in a timepiece that is sculptured like a mechanical piece of art.

Following the launch of the INVICTUS Morphos in 2014, HAUTLENCE’s first chronograph co-designed with Cantona, this incredible duo chose to reveal the second part of their collaboration with a new innovative timepiece in the Concept d’Exception collection. Stunningly designed from the inside out, the VORTEX PRIMARY is built on HAUTLENCE’s second Concept d’Exception, the VORTEX, introduced in July 2015. This new timepiece features the same spectacular mechanism while flaunting a whole new look made out of coloured glass structures, turning it into an astonishing creation.

Inspired by post-modern architecture and deconstructivism, the three-dimensional case of the VORTEX PRIMARY showcases facetted structures embellished with coloured glass that allow a view of the complex movement from all sides. Recalling the splendour of stained glass windows, this state-of-the-art case is crafted out of black PVD-coated grade 5 titanium and highlights a total of 19 different coloured glass panels, creating an eye-catching mosaic of shades. HAUTLENCE and Cantona chose a mix of materials in primary colours to create this vibrant design, which includes five transparent sapphire crystals, two semi -transparent sapphire crystals, four red ruby glass panels, five blue spinel glass panels and three yellow corundum glass panels. These windows reveal parts of the impressive movement from all sides of the case and let light through to focus on the mechanism. Besides its creative design, the case also weighs a remarkable 48 grams, making the timepiece both attractive and comfortable to wear.

In addition to its colourful exterior, the VORTEX PRIMARY stands out from the rest of the collection thanks to its lack of a dial. The retrograde minutes are placed directly on the sapphire crystal of the case, with the half-trailing hours indicated through HAUTLENCE’s signature jumping hour chain system that advances as time passes by. A power reserve indicator is portrayed in red at three o’ clock, while the movement’s regulating organ is on full display at six o’ clock as it rotates 60 degrees every 60 minutes. Such a dynamic design gives the timepiece a new look every hour.

Powering the VORTEX PRIMARY is the same movement as the VORTEX, a reinterpreted and redesigned version of the innovative in-house automatic calibre HL2.0 presented in the first Concept d’Exception in 2010. Angled at 90 degrees, the new in-house automatic calibre HLR2.0 is protected by three HAUTLENCE patents.

The first patent pertains to the 12-link chain of the half-trailing hours, which smoothly turns in 3 to 4 seconds every 60 minutes to display the hour. Such a system differs from an instant system that switches the hours too quickly for one to truly appreciate and from a dragging system whereby time cannot be easily read between the hours.

The half-trailing hours system rotates effortlessly without losing energy and displays the beauty of the movement and its mechanisms in action.

The VORTEX PRIMARY is available with six different straps that can be easily interchanged with a screwdriver that is included in the box. The straps come in a choice of black Louisiana alligator leather or five different coloured rubber straps, each fitted with a folding clasp in grade 2 titanium with a satin-finish steel plate.

Limited to 18 exclusive pieces, the VORTEX PRIMARY combines Cantona’s powerful artistic eye with HAUTLENCE’s daring vision and boundless creativity. More than simply a wristwatch, the VORTEX PRIMARY is a true chef d’oeuvre — one that pushes horological boundaries while respecting watchmaking traditions.

HAUTLENCE TOURBILLON 01

Conquering the pinnacle of high end horology, Independent Swiss luxury watch maker HAUTLENCE expands its Atelier collection with the addition of the Tourbillon 01, an elegant timepiece powered by H. Moser & Cie.’s exclusive Calibre Tourbillon HMC 802. Equipped with a dual-time function, one-minute tourbillon, three-day power reserve and automatic winding system, the Tourbillon 01 introduces new synergies between two brands owned by the Meylan family company, MELB Holding.

The Tourbillon 01 reinterprets all of the design codes that are dear to HAUTLENCE and follows in particular the aesthetics of the very first HL05 timepieces, offering a three-dimensional dial with a multi-level reading of time. Demonstrating HAUTLENCE’s avant-garde approach to design, this new timepiece is housed in a round 44mm two-tone case crafted out of rose gold and black PVD-coated titanium. Built on several levels, the dial highlights a black enamelled base embellished by Côtes de Genève decoration. Rose gold numerals and hour markers appear to be floating above the base thanks to the addition of an intermediate sapphire crystal dial, resulting in a mesmerizing structural effect.

In addition to displaying a tourbillon at six o’ clock, the timepiece also indicates the second time zone through a smaller rose gold hour hand that is hidden behind the main hour hand. The second time zone hand remains out of sight as long as the dual-time function is not in use, staying below the hour hand as it rotates around the dial.

HAUTLENCE VORTEX

Swiss contemporary watchmaker HAUTLENCE unveils its second and highly awaited Concept d’Exception, VORTEX. First launched in 2010, HAUTLENCE’s Concept d’Exception timepieces are extremely sought-after thanks to their extraordinary displays of time powered by incredible mechanical solutions that push the boundaries of traditional watchmaking. Avant-garde and daring, VORTEX is a true showcase of HAUTLENCE’s boundless creativity and audacious approach to watchmaking, reinterpreting all the design codes that are dear to the brand, such as a multi-level reading of time, materials that play on transparency and the use of nonconformist shapes .

This exceptional timepiece features three patents in a mind-blowing three-dimensional case that offers a glimpse of its impressive movement from all sides. Inspired by contemporary architecture, this unique case flaunts a new look every hour as the cage of the regulating organ rotates 60 degrees every 60 minutes, thus turning VORTEX into a mesmerising mechanical piece of art.

Limited to 88 pieces, VORTEX displays half-trailing hours, retrograde minutes and a power-reserve indicator. Its futuristic and lively design changes every hour, as the entire regulating organ rotates 60 degrees every 60 minutes. Powering this new timepiece is a redesigned and reinterpreted version of the innovative in-house automatic calibre HR2.0 presented in the first Concept d’Exception. Named HLR2.0, this impressive new calibre is angled at 90 degrees, resulting in a remarkably ergonomic and modern timepiece.

HAUTLENCE collaborated with the prominent Parisian design studio BBDC, Berra Blanquer Design Consultants, to create VORTEX’s eye-catching and state-of-the-art design inspired by contemporary architecture. BBDC is active in many industries and is renowned for having brought to life several bestselling watch designs ever since its foundation in 1996.

The case of VORTEX is inspired by post-modern architecture and deconstructivism while remaining true to the DNA of the brand. The innovative case features dynamic lines, facetted structures and radical and disruptive shapes. Crafted out of robust titanium grade 5, the case showcases six three-dimensional sapphire crystals that highlight the complexity of the movement’s kinetic construction from all sides. The sapphire crystals offer a glimpse of the mobile bridge-type calibre and the transparent and protective cage of its regulating organ.

Rotating 60 degrees every 60 minutes, the cage of the regulating organ is a reinterpreted version of the one presented in the first Concept d’Exception, the HL2.0, redesigned to increase the visibility of the movement.

The dial provides a two-level reading of time thanks to the semi-transparency of the translucent metallic sapphire dial, portraying the intricacy of the movement’s superior bridges without compromising the readability of the watch’s functions. The dial displays the half-trailing hours, retrograde minutes and a power reserve indicator in a grey colour scheme, reinforcing the architecturally-inspired roots of the timepiece and evoking a metallic and mineral universe. The only dash of colour is seen on the power reserve indicator, displayed in red. The indication of the hours and minutes and the brand logo appear to be engraved directly into the metal.

The bridges of the rotating cage of the calibre were redesigned to feature a futuristic look that stands out from traditional watchmaking. The tense lines and angular shapes of the cage contrast beautifully with the roundness and refinement of the mechanical elements of the regulating organ. The inclined ring is embedded in the bridges of the cage so as to offer a clear view of the regulating organ as it rotates.

The in-house mechanical automatic movement, calibre HLR2.0, is protected by three HAUTLENCE patents, just like the first Concept d’Exception, the HL2.0. The first patent pertains to the 12-link chain of the half-trailing hours, which smoothly turns in 3 to 4 seconds every 60 minutes to display the hour. Such a system differs from an instant system that switches the hours too fast for one to truly appreciate and from a dragging system whereby time cannot be easily read between the hours. The half-trailing hours system rotates effortlessly without losing energy and offers the possibility to admire the beauty of the movement and its mechanisms in action.

The second patent relates to the regulating organ integrated into the mobile bridge-type movement. Its constantly changing position, driven by the display, compensates statistically for the effects of gravity, thus enhancing its precision. The third patent concerns the operation of the movement’s two barrels. The main barrel is wound by the automatic-winding system of the movement and transfers the necessary energy to wind a second barrel that is dedicated exclusively to driving the complication. The main barrel continuously winds the second barrel so as to ensure that energy remains at an optimal level to change each hour. This ensures that complex systems remain powered independently without impacting the precision of the watch.

VORTEX is available with three elegant straps that can be easily interchanged with a screwdriver that is included in the box. VORTEX comes with a black Louisiana alligator leather strap with large square scales, a black horn-back crocodile leather strap with red topstitching or a black rubber strap, each equipped with a folding clasp in grade 2 titanium with a palladium plate.

VORTEX will be available starting this September. Production limited to 88 numbered pieces.

HAUTLENCE – INVICTUS 01 & INVICTUS 03

HAUTLENCE’s two new elegant and sporty chronographs are now available at the brand’s recently inaugurated HAUTLOUNGE in Jakarta and points of sale around the world.

The INVICTUS 01 and 03 are powered by the same skeletonised chronograph movement as the INVICTUS Morphos, the brand’s first chronograph designed in collaboration with its dynamic ambassador, ex-footballer Eric Cantona. The bezel stands out in contrast with the stylish black titanium case and comes in a choice of two different materials – glowing 18-carat red gold (INVICTUS 01) or sophisticated black PVD-coated steel (INVICTUS 03).

Both versions are entirely in tune with the brand DNA, featuring complex multi -level dial constructions that ensure excellent readability while bringing immense depth to the design. The three dimensional overall effect is further enhanced by HAUTLENCE’s emblematic honeycomb motif adorning the dial base in gold.

INVICTUS 03

The INVICTUS 03’s aluminium case middle and horns contrast beautifully with the elegant black PVD-coated steel bezel, push-buttons and screws. A sapphire crystal intermediate dial with powdered silver-toned print completes the design and is offset by hour and minute hands coated with orange Super-LumiNova®.

INVICTUS 01

The more luxurious INVICTUS 01 features push -buttons, screws and a crown crafted out of red gold, as well as matching 5N red-gold plated details on the dial. The INVICTUS 03 comes with a black hornback crocodile leather strap with orange topstitching and a steel clasp, while the INVICTUS 01 is fitted with an upscale Louisiana alligator rubberised leather strap paired with a folding clasp with polished red gold plate.

HAUTLENCE INVICTUS Morphos Limited Edition by Eric Cantona

Neuchâtel based Swiss luxury watch brand HAUTLENCE unveils its first chronograph timepiece in association with its brand ambassador Eric Cantona. The INVICTUS, Morphos Limited Edition by Eric Cantona is issued as a 250-piece limited edition.

Dressed in a titanium case, the dial of this chronograph timepiece bears the colour and iridescent reflections of the large, magnificent blue butterfly for which it is named, while mother-of-pearl insets subtly illuminated with black decals emulate the markings on its wings.

The case-back of this new timepiece is numbered and engraved with the name “INVICTUS”, along with Eric Cantona’s signature and an engraving of his digital fingerprint – a kind of entrance pass to the Gentlemen Rebels Club of which he and every owner of a HAUTLENCE timepiece are members.

HAUTLENCE DESTINATION

Neuchatel based Swiss luxury watch maker HAUTLENCE unveils their first line under its recently launched Signature label. Drawing inspiration from the House style codes while reinterpreting them, the new model – DESTINATION addresses cosmopolitan watch lovers by offering a complication that is a first for the brand: a dual time-zone indication.

HAUTLENCE has thus far equipped all its models with in-house developed and assembled calibres under the ATELIER label. While the development of its own movements is an integral part of the brand DNA and will continue to be so, HAUTLENCE has made no secret of its interest in external cooperative endeavours on certain lines. Under the SIGNATURE commercial label, the brand now offers series-produced models driven by externally sourced movements. DESTINATION, presented at Baselworld 2013, is the first line to carry this label.

Picking up the original HAUTLENCE characteristics (architectural DNA, pure lines and a 3D spirit), while asserting its own more accessible style, DESTINATION is equipped for the first time in brand history with a self-winding movement sourced from an external partner, and thus able to offer new functions: the hours and minutes are complemented by a large date and a 12-hour dragging dual time-zone display, revealed by a 24-hour day/night indicator.

The interplay of discs and reading indications through transparency effects is an integral part of the brand spirit; to achieve this, the movement was modified in comparison with its standard execution ¡V a process that involved altering the day/night indication and adapting the hand cylinders.

For this model, HAUTLENCE has opted for a mechanical self-winding Soprod 935I/A10-2 movement. Housed in a titanium case, this calibre adorned with circular Cotes de Geneve is protected by an opaline base dial topped by a sapphire intermediate dial on which the Arabic numerals appear to be floating weightless ¡V a recurrent feature of HAUTLENCE designs. The base dial is composed of several elements, including the large date bridge engraved with the brand name, as well as a central ring bearing the minutes markings. A small opening in the case-back provides a chance to view the regulating organ and the oscillating weight. The back is also engraved with the characteristics of this line: the name DESTINATION, the series number, the time zones of 12 main cities, along with technical specifications and the brand-specific inscriptions HAUTLENCE and Horlogerie Suisse. The hand-sewn, rolled-edge strap is made of square-scale Louisiana alligator leather.

HAUTLENCE Avant-Garde Retrograde

Neuchâtel based luxury Swiss watch brand HAUTLENCE introduces an ultra-contemporary new collection: AVANT-GARDE, a sleek, powerful collection born of alchemy of contemporary universes, largely taking its inspiration from the curves and aesthetic codes of avant garde design.

Created in HAUTLENCE’s Atelier d’horlogerie contemporaine, the first 3 models of this new collection offer an innovative, and seemingly weightless, approach to time display. The two multilayered dials create an exquisite play of depth and transparency to reveal the architectural balance of the piece.

The watch has a unique transparent sapphire dial: the dial’s upper face features a transfer logo, as well as luminescent minutes and indexes; its lower face includes a semi-opaque area and a metal coating made from highly polished rhodium or rose gold. Underneath, a base dial in silvered opaline or emblematic honeycomb further enhances the feeling of weightlessness. Luminescent numerals and indexes guarantee easy readability and reinforce the 3D effect of the jumping hours, retrograde minutes and subsidiary seconds.

A sleek, curved ergonomic case which combines steel and titanium – covered by black DLC on some models – imparts strength and lightness to this new line which incorporates all of the brand’s characteristic elements: HAUTLENCE in-house manual winding mechanical movement. Jumping hours and retrograde minutes using HAUTLENCE’s connecting rods system. Hand-drawn strokes and hand angled finish.

Through the AVANT-GARDE collection, the brand launches ready-to-wear timepieces, HAUTLENCE is aiming to consolidate its future and enhance its creative offering.

HAUTLENCE HL2 Collection (HL2.1 and HL2.2)

Neuchatel based Independent Swiss watch brand HAUTLENCE unveils HL2, a revolutionary horological creation that breaks away from the mechanisms of the past without forgoing historic regulation methods. The HL2.0 collection represents the second generation of HAUTLENCE watches. After 4 years of development, it was first shown in 2010 and officially launched in its final version in 2011.

HAUTLENCE HL2.1 (in White Gold)
HAUTLENCE HL2.1 (in White Gold)

HL2 Collection features futuristic construction and the way in which it delivers the time make it unique. Thanks to the integration work of the manufacture calibre and to deep reflection, the shape of the gear teeth has been optimised, higher-quality oscillators have been created and the energy consumption of the various complications has been regulated. Through effort and constant research, HAUTLENCE is today able to unveil the second stage of its vision of innovative time display.

HAUTLENCE HL2.1 (in White Gold)

Faithful to the brand’s fundamental concept of offering a different way of reading time, this collection goes even further and establishes HAUTLENCE among the most prestigious contemporary watchmaking brands.

The HL2.0 models display half-trailing jumping hours – one of the special features of this second collection, retrograde minutes – a signature of the brand, and a power-reserve indicator. The collection also includes an automatic movement for the first time.

HAUTLENCE HL2.1 (in White Gold)

Constructed around the retrograde minutes function, the jumping hours mechanism consists of a 12-link chain activated by a connecting-rod/crank as in the HL collection. The retrograde minutes are indicated on a 180° sector of the dial.

HAUTLENCE HL2.2 (in Rose Gold)
HAUTLENCE HL2.2 (in Rose Gold)

An ingenious mechanism governs the movement of the assembly with a speed control that protects the components from any shocks arising from its operation. The chain rotates the mobile bridge through 60° each hour, compensating for the effect of gravity. To provide sufficient energy, the principal barrel, wound by the automatic system, winds a second barrel, which drives the display complication.

Developed and produced by the Neuchâtel brand’s own teams, this collection is the first to offer a Manufacture mechanical movement with automatic winding. Two models are currently available, each limited to 28 numbered timepieces: the HL2.1 in 18-carat white gold and the HL2.2 in 18-carat 4N rose gold.

HAUTLENCE HL2.2 (in Rose Gold)

Technology

The HAUTLENCE HL2.0 watch displays the hours in an aperture, on a 12-link chain moving in a controlled, regulated manner every 60 minutes in 4 seconds without shocks. In this timepiece, HAUTLENCE has separated the energy necessary for chronometry from that necessary for animation, with the addition of a second dedicated barrel to the complication. This was to obtain an optimal chronometric result without disturbance from the energy required for the complication and animation of the display, in a system that compensates for the effects of gravity.

HAUTLENCE HL2.0 Movement
HAUTLENCE HL2.0 Movement – Front Side

This is initiated by the return to zero of the retrograde minutes, with a connecting-rod, sensor and spiral system (like the HAUTLENCE HL model) which frees the energy of the barrel of the complication. The speed of this barrel is controlled by a speed regulator (at the centre of the retrograde minutes).

HAUTLENCE HL2.0 Movement

As for the chain, it is driven every hour by the barrel of the complication at the passing of the hour. It acts on the chain via the speed regulator, which ensures the gentleness of the movement, and via a mechanism that moves it forward one step every hour. This advancement of the chain then turns, by 60 degrees, the main plate that supports the regulating organ and some of the chronometry wheels. The operation has no torque effect on the chronometry.

HAUTLENCE HL2.0 Movement

This new milestone in terms of time display places HAUTLENCE among the brands bringing a new dynamic to the watchmaker’s art by breaking new ground in terms of display, giving the profession a new, three-dimensional vision of time.

The regulating organ is a set of gears that change position (60 degrees) every hour (like the tourbillon, which does this continuously). This new milestone in terms of time display places HAUTLENCE among the brands bringing a new dynamic to the watchmaker’s art by breaking new ground in terms of display, giving the profession a new, three-dimensional vision of time.

HAUTLENCE HL2.0 Movement

Spectacularly architectured around a retrograde minute, the jumping hour comprises a 12-link chain triggered by a connecting rod system identical to those found in HL collections.

An ingenious system, unique in the world of wristwatches, allows the whole ensemble to be shifted in a controlled manner thanks to a speed regulator that preserves the components from any unwanted shocks caused by the workings of the timepiece. It features a dedicated barrel, the sole purpose of which is to provide enough energy for the entire system.

And in order to create a cinematic spectacle, HAUTLENCE has ensured that the movement of the chain allowing the hour to be changed in the aperture is accompanied by the 60º rotation of the regulating organ. This rotary motion taking place every 60 minutes allows the effects of gravity on the regulating organ to be statistically compensated for should the watch remain immobile.

HAUTLENCE HL2.0 Movement

The 4 Modules

1. “Jumping” regulating organ

The HL2 is a bold watch designed around an ingenious mechanism allowing the regulating organ to be rotated together with some of the gears, once an hour. Driven by the movement of the hour every 60 minutes, the regulation group comprising the balance, the balance spring of the lever and the lever wheel but also the second and third wheels will occupy a new position, different from the previous one by precisely 60º. Finally, this ensemble performs a rotation on an axis parallel to that of the wrist.

HAUTLENCE HL2 Movement - Jumping regulating organ
HAUTLENCE HL2 Movement – Jumping regulating organ

This original, sophisticated construction allows the regulating organ to change position every hour. Like on a classic tourbillon, this rotating movement allows the balance to occupy all positions successively. Through this process, an average rate of vertical positions is obtained, the impact of which is therefore a clear improvement in the timing of the instrument. Put simply, the regulating group corrects the errors of equilibrium of the balance-spring system, the result of which is a statistical cancellation of the negative effects of gravity on the precision of an immobile watch.

2. Hour with Jumping Chain

With this new watchmaking creation, HAUTLENCE has chosen to emphasise the aesthetics by creating a mechanical display system that allows the time to be read differently. Exploiting innovative mechanical solutions borrowed from other industrial fields, the HL2 has risen to the challenge of reinventing watch complications. The entire design of this new-generation timepiece revolves around the exploitation of a sort of chain, each link of which is moved forward hour by hour through successive jumps, the current hour being presented in an aperture.

HAUTLENCE HL2 Movement - Hour with Jumping Chain
HAUTLENCE HL2 Movement – Hour with Jumping Chain

This entire fine mechanism is driven by a speed-reduction train that accompanies the rotation for 4 seconds in order to protect the hour chain and the regulating organ from any shock from blows or butting. Every 60 minutes, the rotation of this mechanical ensemble therefore allows the wearer of the watch to observe the changing of the numerals indicating the hours in the aperture for those few seconds that the mechanical sequence lasts.

3. Speed regulator

In order to successfully master the rotation of the chain and the simultaneous rotation of the regulating organ, the energy stored in the barrels has been controlled by a set of ingenious mechanisms. The energy in the barrel dedicated to the complication is delivered to the mechanism once that of the retrograde minutes has returned to zero. Through the intervention of its connecting rod serving as a sensor and to the star wheel, the complication group initiates a rotation of a single turn thanks to a cam plus slide system.

HAUTLENCE HL2 Movement - Speed regulator
HAUTLENCE HL2 Movement – Speed regulator

In order to master and optimise the kinetic energy present, an inertia speed-regulator has been fitted in order to limit the speed of rotation of the ensemble for four seconds. As the mechanical sequences follow one another, it is therefore possible for the chain to move gently in order to display the next hour without any collisions that could be detrimental to the correct functioning of the watch.

4. Automatic Winding

HAUTLENCE’s in house developed self-winding mechanical movement features a high-performance gear system with an optimised gear-tooth shape. Based on a collaboration begun with Philippe Ruedin, HAUTLENCE’s external engineering consultant for many years, the idea of sharing the development of an “open-source” calibre has allowed many independent brands to have at their disposal components from a common base, which may be personalised as desired. This mechanical base, called ASXP 0300 in watchmaking jargon, has been thoroughly reworked in the HAUTLENCE design offices in order to create a new kind of calibre.

HAUTLENCE HL2.0 Movement

The complication’s high-energy needs forced the team of designers to re-think the calibre, giving it a self-winding mechanism in order to supply the main barrel, which serves to maintain the energy of the balance, and the second barrel, which serves to drive the complication.

As one can imagine, it is continuously reloaded thanks to the presence of a gear train connected to the finishing gear train. Furthermore, in order to prevent the watch from stopping unexpectedly, HAUTLENCE has added a power-reserve indicator to its new model in order to check the charge level, designed to function for 45 hours without movement of the rotor.

Patents

The HAUTLENCE HL2 watch incorporates three patents. The first patent concerns the half-trailing hours chain (as opposed to an instant system that is too fast to appreciate, or a dragging system that cannot be read correctly between the hours): every 60 minutes the chain advances in 3-4 seconds without jumps or loss of energy, making it possible to admire the beauty of the movement and its mechanisms in action.

The second patent relates to the regulating organ integrated into the mobile bridge movement. Its constantly changing position, driven by the display, compensates statistically for the effect of gravity, enhancing its precision.

The third patent covers the operation of the movement’s two barrels. The principal barrel is wound by the automatic system and transmits the energy needed to wind a second barrel that is devoted exclusively to driving the complication. It is kept fully wound by the main barrel to ensure that an optimal level of energy is available to change each hour. This means the complex systems are powered independently without affecting the precision of the watch.

HAUTLENCE HLQ Classic

Once again, HAUTLENCE is reinforcing the exclusivity of its products by offering lovers of beautiful time pieces the opportunity to choose between two dial types for the same case reference.

The first HLQ versions, which belong to the HL family of timepieces, were of a “skeletonised” aesthetic. Thanks to the “Classic” dial taken directly from the HLC collection, in 2011 HAUTLENCE brings a touch of sobriety and elegance to the HLQ model.

The design of this evolution, displayed in the perfect union of the curves, allows the minutes sector and jumping hour to be highlighted, in pure symmetry. The number of pieces in this limited edition remains 88 per reference.

With its calibre HLQ, HAUTLENCE enters the world of brands that have made their mark on history. By offering a second movement in its collection, developed and produced entirely independently, the young Manufacture proves that it is here to stay.

In order to maintain the connection between the oldest hand-wound calibre and the new movement, the team of HAUTLENCE developers worked together, coming to the conclusion that the new heart of the HLQ must maintain its visual associations, without in any way attempting to reuse the same kinematics for the time display.

In this configuration, which integrates a date disc, the round hand-wound calibre therefore uses a gear train of sectoral development coupled with a pinion with calibrated micrometric teeth, connected to the axis of the motion-work.

This layout allows space to be optimised and the minute display sector to be increased.
The jumping hour and retrograde minute continue to be commanded by the bold HL patent, combining a sliding translation motion under the effect of the backwards movement of the spiral sensor with a gold inertia block that acts as a fly for inertia, allowing the necessary energy to be brought to the jumping disc. Finally, in order to simplify the setting of the date, the internal creators have incorporated an instant corrector, judiciously positioned and accessible to the lug at 12 o’clock.

By continuing the circle effect right up to the minutes-display crescent, the round HLQ Classic redesigns its face, ingeniously alluding in its geometry to the repetitive nature of infinity.

The 44 mm case has been reconstructed according to the essence of the HL, conserving the latter’s pure lines. The cylindrical form of the case, architectured to optimise the aperture, orients the design towards a deconstructed construction; the 4 horns are therefore screwed onto the exterior of the casemiddle, thus optimising the adaptation of the bracelet, which swivels closer to the wearer’s wrist.

This curved watch possesses the ability to instantly attract the gaze, using the volumes of its dial in order to give its owner an incredible sensation of restraint through its various skilfully-worked curvatures. It therefore becomes a convergence of trends, between modernity and artistic craftsmanship, embodying a new breed of timepiece in which understated strength and originality are a symbol of excellence.

HAUTLENCE HLQ COLLECTION

Inspired by the architecture of shapes, the HLQ line demonstrates in form and mechanical function the extent to which HAUTLENCE’s avant-garde creativity is constantly brought into play.

In spite of all its differences, the round HLQ, born of the desire to fulfill the aspirations of the greater part of the watchmaking clientele remains the natural extension of the HL and HLs collections. Thus, using the time-display principle adopted for its first calibre, the HL movement has been rebuilt with the date in the form of a calendar disc peripheral to the jumping hour and retrograding minute assembly.

By offering a second movement that has been developed and manufactured independently as part of its collection, the young Manufacture is revealing to skeptics the extent of its intention to transcend time.

In order to preserve the ties of paternity between the elder of the hand-wound calibres and the new movement, HAUTLENCE’s team of developers worked in unison and arrived at the following conclusion: that the new heart of the HLQ should retain the same visual associations yet avoid seeking to reuse the same kinematics for reading the time.

Hence, the round calibre with manual winding uses – in this configuration integrating a calendar disc – a sectoral gear coupled with a calibrated, micrometric toothed pinion that is directly engaged with the minute-hand axis. With this arrangement, the use of space is optimised and the sector devoted to reading the minutes, increased.

The jumping hour and retrograding minutes are still commanded by the ingenious patented HL mechanism, which combines the slide-bar’s translation, driven by the retraction of the snail’s feelerspindle, with a gold inertia-block that acts as an inertia wheel providing the energy required to make the disc jump.

Finally, to simplify date setting, the in-house designers have included an instantaneous corrector cleverly positioned and accessible at 12 o’clock between the horns.

By playing on the repetition of circles right down to the arched sections reserved for reading the minutes, the round HLQ remodels its dial with the cerebral pleasure of knowing that its geometry is making an allusion to the repetitive nature of infinity.

The 44 mm case has been redefined based on the DNA of the HL, retaining the latter’s pure and minimalist lines. The cylindrical form of the case, designed to optimise the opening, orientated the design towards ideas of destructured construction; thus, the four horns are screwed to the outside of the caseband, thereby optimising the adjustment of the pivoting strap to ft the wearer’s wrist as snugly as possible.
