Breguet Type XXII XXII 3880 Rose Gold Version

The exemplary Breguet Type XXII is now available in 18-carat rose gold.

Introduced in 2010 in a steel version, the Breguet Type XXII houses an in-house chronograph movement with silicon escapement and flat balance spring whose frequency has been raised to 10 Hertz (i.e. 72,000 vibrations per hour), endowing the movement with exceptional regulating power, its chronograph seconds hand effecting a complete rotation in 30 seconds.

The timepiece’s start function and readout are thus twice as precise. At the heart of this technical exploit is the use of silicon, resulting in more lightweight mobile components and the avoidance of the lubrication problems generated by high frequencies.

The minutes graduation in the form of dashes – one red and the other white – situated on the flange, combined with the numbered seconds graduation also appearing in red and white, serves to establish whether the chronograph counter is in its first (red sectors) or second (white sectors) 30-second revolution.

Breguet Type XXII XXII 3880 Rose Gold Version

The Breguet Type XXII chronograph naturally features a flyback function, allowing the totaliser to be returned to zero and instantly restarted in one and the same operation. Furthermore, the dial includes a second time-zone indicator along with an aperture for a date calendar.

A two-position crown resets the second time-zone indicator by moving the hour hand at centre without affecting the minute hand. With the crown in that position, the date calendar obeys the time of the main time-zone displayed at centre.

A 24-hour night-and-day indicator at 3 o’clock tells the wearer whether it is daytime or night time in the area covered by the second time-zone.

At nine o’clock, a subdial showing the running seconds making full rotations in 30 seconds completes this truly exceptional timepiece. The chronograph’s brown dial contrasts crisply with the flyback indications in red. The model comes fitted with an integrated brown leather strap.

ZENITH – Pilot Montre d’Aéronef Type 20 GMT & Pilot Montre d’Aéronef Type 20 GMT Red Baron Limited Edition

The new Pilot Montre d’Aéronef Type 20 GMT is a worthy successor to the first Zenith aviator’s watches. This generously 48 mm-diameter model echoes all the same distinctive visual features: a wide grooved and screw-locked crown, imposing Arabic numerals entirely made of white Superluminova displaying the time, as well as a large matt black dial – forming a backdrop against which the finely satin-brushed ruthenium black, Superluminova-enhanced hands stand out clearly and visibly.

The solid case-back is composed of a medallion struck with the effigy of a Blériot plane and bearing the inscription: “Montre d’Aéronef Type 2 – ZENITH Flying Instruments”.

In a nod to the Swiss civil aviation registration system, the letters HB appear on the side of the case, followed by a figure referring to the model’s series number. Powered by an automatic Zenith Elite 693 movement with a 50-hour power reserve, this steel model with a brown leather strap drives the hours, minutes, small seconds at 9 o’clock and GMT functions. While modern-day travellers smoothly juggle time zones on their wrist, this was not always the case.

ZENITH Pilot Montre d’Aéronef Type 20 GMT

It was in the 1820s that the decision was taken to adopt a universal time unit based on a solar day comprising 86,400 seconds.

In 1833, the United States became the first nation to establish a time-zone system, and it was not until 1844, at the close of the fiercely contested International Meridian Conference in Washington, that the globe was officially divided into 24 time zones and the location of Greenwich, England was adopted as the Zero Meridian.

This would become the universally recognised Greenwich Mean Time or GMT, the sole international time reference for pilots the world over.

ZENITH Pilot Montre d’Aéronef Type 20 GMT Red Baron Limited Edition

GMT watches are thus direct heirs to the conquest of the skies, which is why Zenith wished to pay homage through a special GMT series to one of the most talented pilots of his era, who became a legend: the Red Baron. Born Albrecht von Richthofen in May 1892 in what is now Poland, he was fascinated by the budding field of aviation and soon became a true aerobatics artist.

His celebrity and his nickname are inseparably bound up with that of the bright red-painted Fokker Triplane Dr.1. Famed for his 80 air combat victories; he was one of the last representatives of the nobler values of such combat: honour, fair play and courage.

ZENITH Pilot Montre d’Aéronef Type 20 GMT Red Baron Limited Edition

It is in memory of this gifted pilot whose name is still cited to this day that Zenith has created a 500-piece limited edition: the Pilot Montre d’Aéronef Type 20 GMT Red Baron.

Made in black DLC-coated steel and fitted with an overstitched black leather strap, this model is also distinguished by its red GMT marking and by the caseback medallion depicting the Fokker Triplane Dr.1 and bearing the inscription: Montre d’Aéronef Type 20 – ZENITH Flying Instruments.

About Zenith Pilot Montre d’Aéronef Type 20 Collection – 2013

The Manufacture Zenith, which has remained in the very same spot for almost a century and half, was an integral part of the early days in the amazing saga of aviation and was one of the first to supply onboard watches and instruments.

Six new Pilot Montre d’Aéronef Type 20 watches, including a special series paying tribute to the Red Baron, echo the fundamental role played by Zenith in the conquest of the skies.

Since the pioneering days of aviation Louis Blériot and Léon Morane were acquainted with each other. The two famous pioneering aviators took part in the conquest of the skies in the early 20th century. On July 25th 1909, at the age of 37, Blériot flew across the Channel in a plane he had built: a world-first accomplishment.

Less than a year later, 25 year-old Morane flew at more than 100 km/h at an air show in Reins, France – an unbelievable speed for the time. His aircraft was a Blériot XI. The two men shared a passion for aviation as well as a taste for risks – and of course for competition. Not only that, but Louis Blériot and Léon Morane also owned an instrument that was a must-have for pilots, a Zenith watch that they regarded as the most accurate on the market.

Zenith thus made a decisive early entrance into the extraordinary adventure of aviation. First partnering some of the greatest pioneers, the Manufacture subsequently became one of the first onboard instrument manufacturers. Altimeters and onboard watches (montres d’aéronef ) intended for inflight use were supplied both to the military and to civilian airlines.

Known among aeronautical industry manufacturers and professionals for its reliability, its sturdiness and its precision, the famous Zenith Type 20 appeared as of 1938 on the instrument panels of a number of planes – including the Caudron Simon C.635 used by the French Air Force as a training aircraft. Today’s Pilot collection is a worthy heir to these years of airborne glory and conquests.

The French term “montre d’aéronef” (onboard watch) is an apt name for these instruments specially developed for aviation, a field in which the conditions of use were considerably more demanding than elsewhere and severely tested the mechanisms. The latter had to withstand sudden fluctuations in temperature, magnetic fields given off by the engines and the other flight instruments, occasionally violent vibrations, humidity, as well as changes in atmospheric pressure.

Impeccable readability was also a must, and a large matt black dial provided the best possible contrast for the white luminescent-coated hands and other time indications. The latter featured characteristic Arabic numerals and an oversized font. As far as wristwatches were concerned, operating them was considerably facilitated by a distinctive crown enabling gloved handling of the winding and setting functions.

All these requirements were part of the technical specifications developed in the mid- 1930s and which have evolved over the years in step with aviation technology. As of 1938, the specifications became known as “Type 20”.

These professional watches regarded as survival instruments were regularly checked and maintained. In France, for example, they were supplied to the Air Force, the Naval Aviation and the Test Flight Centre. Today, the Type 20-approved instruments produced at the time by only a handful of stringently selected manufacturers belong to the flight instrument hall of fame.

Breguet Tradition 7067 GMT

In 2005, Breguet introduced its 7027 Tradition model, the first of its wristwatches to reveal the mechanisms of the movement on the dial side of the baseplate.

Since then the Tradition collection has become one of the most representative of the Breguet brand. Today it gets a timezone model that travellers the world over are sure to appreciate.

Breguet Tradition 7067 GMT

The new Breguet reference 7067 also has the distinctive architecture that opens the main components of the movement to admiration. Its stylistic elegance is commensurate with its ease of operation; a button on the caseband at 10 o’clock quickly sets the timezone, which can be seen on an off-centre dial at 12 o’clock.

Breguet Tradition 7067 GMT

A second engine-turned dial at 8 o’clock shows the reference time with its day/night indicator, alternating between silver and black at 10 o’clock.

Breguet Tradition 7067 GMT watch

Despite its additional function, this Tradition GMT remains true to the identity of the collection with its anthracite-coloured movement highlighting the balance-wheel at 4 o’clock. The Breguet spring with its raised terminal curve and the inverted inline lever escapement are both in silicon and ensure the outstanding stability of rate born of Breguet’s technical inventiveness.

Blending both hindsight and foresight, the Tradition GMT 7067 displays all the attributes of a Breguet watch: the delicately fluted caseband, the Breguet hands with a moon cut into their tips, welded lugs and an engine-turned dial with a secret signature and an individual number.

Christophe Claret Adagio – Minute Repeater Complication With Large Date & GMT

After the huge success of its DualTow timepiece ( A single-pusher planetary-gear chronograph with striking mechanism and tourbillon), which is introduced in 2009, Swiss watch manufacture Christophe Claret now presents Adagio, the second model from the brand.

Christophe Claret Adagio Minute Repeater Complication With Large Date and GMT

The brand new timepiece Adagio is a Minute Repeater Complication, which definitively establishes Christophe Claret among the most prestigious names in Swiss watchmaking.

A compendium of the skills cultivated by the Manufacture Christophe Claret – a famous movement-maker under the same name – this minute repeater, large date and GMT model also heralds further surprises to be unveiled at Baselworld 2011.

Christophe Claret Adagio Minute Repeater Complication With Large Date and GMT

An exceptional demonstration of the know-how of the Christophe Claret movement manufacturer, the DualTow watch released in 2009 set the crowning touch to twenty years of passion and innovation in the service of the most prestigious brands. Created as an anniversary model – in a range of 68 different and thus unique models – this single-pusher planetary-gear chronograph with striking mechanism and tourbillon was to experience a swift change of destiny.

By revealing his watchmaking talents to the public at large, Christophe Claret was unexpectedly propelled to the centre of the watch industry stage. Hailed by collectors and connoisseurs the world over who recognised his distinctive “signature”, this model generated a desire for more, which is the driving force behind any new creations.

Now firmly in the spotlight and acknowledged as a creator of complete watches and not only watch movements, Christophe Claret simultaneously triggered a phenomenon with which virtuosos are well acquainted but which he had not anticipated: the hope to see him “play it again”. Faced with the eager anticipation expressed by his admirers, the decision to officially establish the Christophe Claret brand was the obvious next step. The DualTow thus switched status from “anniversary creation” to founding model.

Like a builder pursuing a single-minded mission, firmly establishing its name among the ranks of fine watchmaking brands, Christophe Claret is now presenting its second collection, named Adagio.

A classic model giving pride of place to watchmaking traditions in terms of both its mechanism and its exterior, this exceptional watch is equipped with Calibre SLB88, naturally created entirely in house and composed of 455 parts.

Christophe Claret Adagio Minute Repeater Complication With Large Date and GMT

The Adagio features central hour and minute hands, small seconds at 9 o’clock in a window or subdial, depending on the versions; along with a large date at 6 o’clock and a dual time-zone (hours and minutes) display complete with day/night indication in a subdial at 2 o’clock.

Christophe Claret Adagio Minute Repeater Complication With Large Date and GMT

In tribute to his Manufacture’s first calibre introduced over 20 years ago, Christophe Claret wanted to equip this timepiece with a minute repeater, a particularly intricate fine watchmaking complication that has become one of the great specialties of the Manufacture.

Christophe Claret Adagio Minute Repeater Complication With Large Date and GMT

Striking the hours, quarters and minutes on demand, the “cathedral gongs” of the striking mechanism are fitted with a patented device preventing them from knocking against each other when they vibrate under the hammer blows. The equally patented large date display features an unprecedented construction.

This 34 mm-diameter movement is adorned with finely decorated bridges and endowed with a 48-hour power reserve. The crown is also equipped with a security system: when the mainspring is fully wound, a mechanism disconnects the winding stem so as to avoid any potential damage due to excessive tension.

Christophe Claret Adagio watch Minute Repeater Complication With Large Date and GMT

The Adagio is available in three colours – rose gold, white gold or platinum – the 44 mm case is water resistant to 30 metres. It is fitted with two pushers at 2 and 4 o’clock to adjust the large date and dual time-zone displays, as well as a slide-piece controlling the striking mechanism at 9 o’clock.

Meanwhile, the dial comes in a choice of three versions. The first highlights the ancestral art of guillochéwork or engine-turning on gold – white gold in this particular case – elegantly enhanced by the blued hour, minute, seconds, and dual time-zone hands. The second is adorned with gemstones such as black onyx, ruby, jade, opal or lapis lazuli.

And finally, the third features a rhodiumed anthracite gold base punctuated by stamped dials, creating a three-dimensional effect. All models are supplied with an alligator leather strap and issued in limited edition of eight per dial and case version.

Suggested retail price for Christophe Claret Adagio is CHF 268,000.- for the rose gold/white gold versions and CHF 318,000.- for the platinum version.

Louis Erard 1931 New 44mm Moon Phase and GMT Big Date Models

During autumn 2009, Louis Erard released two new models in its Collection 1931: the Moon Phase and the GMT Grande Date, housed in larger cases.

Housed in a generously-sized, contemporary 44mm steel case, the new 1931 – offered in a Moon Phase or GMT Big Date version – embodies a special kind of elegance: refined lines, subtle interplays of structures and volumes, and judiciously selected materials. Added to this are a perfect mastery of technical elements and uncompromising finishing.

Louis Erard 1931 Moon Phase 44mm watch

Because Louis Erard wanted to preserve its impressive, highly distinctive case, while giving its new creations a more classical look, large Roman numerals now embellish a finely guilloched dial, offered for the first time in anthracite grey or in silvered tones as contemporary as they are timeless.

In the Moon Phase version, the printed date on the flange adds a remarkable sense of depth to the layered structure, while the moon phase gives the whole piece an impression of softness and balance.

Louis Erard 1931 Moon Phase 44mm watch with silver dial

Robust, elegant and unpretentious, the stylish, sophisticated 1931 GMT Big Date is particularly appealing when its dial scintillates with silvered reflections accentuated by a coffee-coloured strap, or when a noble aura emanates from its coal-grey accents skilfully orchestrated between the dial and strap.

Louis Erard 1931 GMT Big Date 44mm watch
An invitation to travel or dream, the new 1931 GMT Big Date or Moon Phase is a strong temptation to succumb to the pleasure of owning a true haute horlogerie timepiece without having to spend an astronomical sum.

Mido Belluna GMT

The Belluna line continues to explore the world of Art Deco with a design GMT model displaying bright and stylish contours. Inspired by the Chrysler Building, the most famous of New York skyscrapers, the design of this watch captures remarkable features of this jewel of Art Deco architecture.

Mido Belluna GMT watch

The watch design recalls the remarkable features of this jewel in the crown of Art Deco architecture. The steel case embodies the understated geometrical forms which still attract keen admiration for this 1930s style. Its formal simplicity endows this timepiece with strong structural cohesion.

The curves are harmonious and unusually soft, but the interest stems from the contrast created by the presence of the indexes with their straight lines and right angles. The hands are reminiscent of the arrow that rises majestically over the New York skyline. Reading of the second time zone is very clear thanks to a hand which completes one revolution in 24 hours.

Mido Belluna GMT automatic watch

The innovation and bold approach which permitted the construction of this prestigious monument are repeated in the technical elements which will surely attract male buyers who are sensitive to these qualitative values. A sapphire crystal protects the dial and guarantees a scratch-resistant surface, The transparent back is screw-fitted, as too is the crown. The Belluna model is water-resistant up to 100 meters.

Maurice Lacroix Pontos Decentric GMT Rose Gold

After a limited edition in titanium and a steel model, Maurice Lacroix adds a gold version to its Decentric Pontos GMT collection. The Pontos Decentric GMT rose gold works on colors with a know-how and a subtlety that reflect the technical innovation and the original aesthetics that sign the brand’s timepieces.

Winner of Red Dot Design Award 2006, Maurice Lacroix Pontos Decentric GMT is a ground-breaking mechanical timepiece, which is immediately identifiable by its architectural lines and contemporary design with eccentric functions.

The hours, minutes and seconds are freed from use which places them in the center of the dial to form part of a round segment shifted towards 10 o’clock.

Maurice Lacroix Pontos Decentric GMT Rose Gold

The day and night display of a second time zone takes place in a disc housed at 5 o’clock in which the symbols of the sun and the moon appear. Also surprising, the date display is optimized thanks to a patented mechanism, developed in-house by Maurice Lacroix, which allows raise the date disc. This innovative construction makes it possible to integrate an effect three-dimensional and create an additional design element in this uniquely arranged dial.

The Pontos Decentric GMT pink gold is distinguished by extensive research in terms of colors and finishing games. By multiplying the tonal subtleties in this timepiece with expressive lines, Maurice Lacroix highlights its functions and adds a distinctive character that aesthetes affirmed will not fail to identify.

The contrasting finishes cohabiting in the dial create a depth that seems to multiply the shades of brown. The day/night disc is covered with a sapphire crystal which reveals the choreography of the chocolate disc and the stars. The rose-gold plated indexes and hands perfectly harmonize with the brown color of the dial.

The 43 mm case and the buckle of the alligator strap are in 18K gold. The watch features an integrated second time zone corrector at 2 o’clock and an aircraft turbine blade inspired crown at 3 o’clock.

This is the brand’s key product line, one that harks back to the beginning of its extraordinary history, and even to its rebirth.

When it first appeared, the “1931” collection made a huge impact, embodying as it did Louis Erard’s ability to ennoble the germ of an idea. Slightly reinterpreted in 2007, the “1931” timepieces trigger even stronger sensations today, with lovers of fine workmanship immediately falling under their spell.

Discreet and refined, these new models display a classic design that is both distinctive and exceptional. These watches are equipped with useful complications: a small seconds, a moon phase or a second time zone.
