GLYCINE

Swiss watch brand Glycine is renowned for sturdy high-quality watches with large diameters. The 100-year-old traditional company Glycine Watch SA is a renowned specialist in mechanical aviators’ and diving watches with sales outlets in over 30 countries. Founded in 1914 by Eugène Meylan, this dynamic Biel/Bienne-based Company is headed up today by proprietor Stephan Lack.

Hans Brechbühler (1927-2010)
Hans Brechbühler was an enthusiastic achiever who loved his work and relished contact with other people.

During the Swiss watchmaking crisis in 1984, Hans Brechbühler took over Glycine and saved it from bankruptcy. At that time, he had already been working in the industry for 30 years following initial training in business management. He rebuilt Glycine and strongly influenced the brand, later together with his youngest daughter Katherina. In 2005, following 15 years of joint management and ownership, Katharina Brechbühler assumed sole control of Glycine.

However, her father’s broad knowledge and wide experience continued to benefit the company and he remained a constant pillar of support and a valued advisor.

Hans Brechbühler was fascinated just as much by the technical side of watch manufacture as he was by the commercial aspects. At the same time, it was not just the business that interested him but also the people behind it. His exceptional language skills allowed him to communicate easily with them. Consequently, many of them regarded him not just as a business partner but also as a friend. He was born in Zurich on 23 August 1927 and died at home in Mörigen near Biel on 19 June 2010.

In 2011, Altus Uhren Holding AG took over the Glycine Watch, and Stephan Lack was appointed as the new CEO. Katherina Brechbühler, daughter of Hans Brechbühler continues to look after the design department.

In 2014, Glycine celebrated its 100th Anniversary.

In 2016, DKSH sold Glycine Watch S.A. to the Florida-based watch manufacturer Invicta Watch Group.

Glycine AIRMAN AIRFIGHTER

The Airman AIRFIGHTER is a genuine pilot’s watch with three individual time zones crafted by traditional watchmaker Glycine. The second time zone sits elegantly on the luminous internal bezel with dynamic GMT hand with white triangle pointer indicating the time in the 24-hour zone. The hand can be easily operated and moved by turning the central crown. The third time zone is operated by the Airman’s signature 24-hour rotating bezel by simply turning the bezel after first releasing the catch by turning the lower crown.

The stage for the perfect orchestration of the three time zones is set by the precision-crafted dial which is in total harmony with the perfectly coordinated hands. A sapphire glass with anti-reflective scratch-resistant coating on both sides protects the watch, keeping it in optimum condition for precision readings in all three time zones.

The watch is set in an imposing 46mm case made with painstaking attention to detail and a chronograph mechanism operated in a revolutionary way with a push-piece to the left ideally situated for operation with the thumb of the right hand. The final flourish comes in the high-quality leather strap which guarantees maximum comfort and is supplied with an ergonomically designed folding clasp.

The Airman AIRFIGHTER is kept in time by a highly acclaimed GL 754-calibre automatic movement (ETA specification). The virtuoso piece is the beautiful aircraft skeleton on the oscillating weight of the movement which will set hearts racing among watch aficionados. Glycine Combat Sub “Aquarius”

Traditional Swiss watchmaker Glycine is introducing the AQUARIUS to the market, having developed this diver’s watch to meet the highest professional standards and the most exacting aesthetic demands.

Co-designed by Swiss professional diver Remo Laeng, the AQUARIUS has successfully passed the test on dives down to a depth of 500 metres. The highly functional and aesthetically perfect case boasts a screw-down relief valve on the left-hand side, and its crowning glory is an absolutely scratch-proof rotating bezel made of high-tech ceramic.

A sapphire glass with anti-reflective coating on both sides and clever magnifying effect provides the best possible clarity of display, allowing the professional diver to see the dive time easily, even at great depths. The product is finished by a beautifully integrated rubber strap which combines maximum comfort with practicality and aesthetics.

The Aquarius is fitted with a helium escape valve which allows helium to escape from inside the watch when it is worn by divers in pressure chambers. Breathing gases in diving bells can contain helium with atoms so small that they can find their way inside a watch. When the diver surfaces, the pressure difference between these trapped gases and the external environment could damage the watch. The helium escape valve prevents this from happening.

The GL224 automatic Swiss precision movement ticks away inside the AQUARIUS. The elegant timepiece is on sale at a recommended retail price of 1,990.00 euro.

Glycine AIRMAN “DC-4”

Traditional Swiss watch brand GLYCINE pays tribute to the legendary DC-4 aircraft by unveiling the AIRMAN “DC-4” wristwatch.

Built by Douglas Aircraft Company, the legendary DC-4 is an American commercial aircraft with four piston engines which began its career as a military transport plane and was later used in civil air transport all over the world after the Second World War. It was also the DC-4 which, in 1953, led Glycine to conceive the legendary AIRMAN, the first pilot’s watch with double 24-hour display function.

As chance would have it, Glycine Sales Director and aircraft enthusiast Sam Glur was on a flight from Bangkok to Calcutta when he met airline pilot and watch enthusiast Captain Chat Brown who invited him into the cockpit of his DC-4. Captain (Chat) Brown evidently made the most of the time he had with watch expert Sam Glur to explain exactly what was required in a genuine pilot’s watch. Sam Glur reported back to headquarters on the very same day, sending a detailed account of the conversation and the specification. According to the brief, what pilots really wanted was an automatic watch with 24-hour display enhanced by the addition of a second 24-hour time zone. And there was no such watch on the market at that time.

The inspiration for the legendary AIRMAN therefore came on the fly, so to say. The market launch of the first AIRMAN took place before the year was out. This pioneering Swiss pilot’s watch was the genuine article and was extremely popular with the American pilots. The unique AIRMAN DNA has spawned a further 29 generations based on the original.

The pilot’s watch is controlled by an automatic rhodanised GL 293 movement (ETA specification). Following in the purist footsteps of the original AIRMAN, it has an exclusive market position as a 24-hour watch with two time zones. If preferred, however, it can also be used as a normal 12-hour watch with the additional feature of a 24-hour GMT display. The beautiful and timeless classic comes, as it did 60 years ago, in a wooden case true to the original with vintage-style warranty certificate. A book about the Airman is also included which tells its story in clear factual detail.

Glycine Airman Airfighter – In Camouflage Design

The traditional Swiss watchmaker Glycine, which has a tradition of specializing in bespoke watches for pilots and divers, took the market by surprise in 2014 with a genuine novelty by the name of the Airman AIRFIGHTER. Now this dynamic timepiece is available in a camouflage version inspired by Glycine’s long history of collaboration with the armed forces.

The Airman AIRFIGHTER is a genuine pilot’s watch with three individual time zones. The second time zone sits elegantly on the luminous internal bezel with a dynamic GMT hand with white triangle pointer indicating the time in the 24-hour zone. The hand can be easily operated and moved by turning the central crown. The third time zone is operated by the Airman’s signature 24-hour rotating bezel by simply turning the bezel after first releasing the locking crown at the 4H position.

The stage for the perfect orchestration of the three time zones is set by the precision crafted dial which is in total harmony with the perfectly coordinated hands. A sapphire glass with anti-reflective scratch-resistant coating on both sides protects the watch, keeping it in optimum condition for precision readings in all three time zones.

The watch is set in an imposing 46mm case made with painstaking attention to detail and a chronograph mechanism operated with a revolutionary push-piece, ideally situated at the 9H position with the thumb of the right hand. The final flourish comes in the comfortable high-quality strap in camouflage design which can also be supplied on request with a folding clasp.

The Airman AIRFIGHTER is kept in time by a highly acclaimed GL 754-calibre automatic movement (ETA specification). The beautiful aircraft skeleton on the oscillating weight of the movement will set hearts racing among watch aficionados. This masterpiece is now available in anthracite black with red and blue markings.

Glycine Airman “Double Twelve”

Biel-based watchmaker Glycine enhances its legendary AIRMAN range of pilot’s watches with the refined “DOUBLE TWELVE” , an entry-level model which boasts typical AIRMAN features. The result is a pilot’s watch made of stainless steel with excellent clarity of display, a rotating bezel with a second time zone and the hallmark Glycine locking bezel crown at the 4 o’clock setting.

But take a closer look and the revolutionary features of the new “DOUBLE TWELVE” will also become apparent to those really acquainted with the Airman. Like every one of its predecessors, the youngest Airman is a pilot’s watch with multiple time zones. It is, however, the first Airman to use the 12-hour display (only) since the launch of the legendary Airman line in 1953.

Producing the watch with a pure 12-hour display for both time zones has allowed Glycine to use the proven and high-precision GL 224 automatic calibre (ETA specification) which is a little less complex and pleasantly reduces the retail price, bringing the watch within the price range of Airman enthusiasts on a slightly lower budget.

The “Double Twelve” Airman comes in stainless steel with carefully crafted dials in blue, black and red. A book about the Airman is also included as a gift with each purchase, fondly and coherently recounting the full Airman story.

Glycine Airman Seven (Ref. 3919)

Traditional Swiss watch maker GLYCINE unveils its latest timepiece AIRMAN SEVEN, an exceptional automatic wristwatch designed for frequent travellers. This new model has its origins back in the early 1990s when the traditional Biel-based establishment brought out its then revolutionary Airman 7 with three dials displaying the time simultaneously and made a big entrance on the wristwatch market.

In introducing the impressive timepiece, boasting no less than three automatic movements, GLYCINE had not only redesigned the arrangement of several time zones but had confidently ushered in the age of large watches worn on the wrist.

The Glycine watchmakers have now succeeded in building a watch for pilots and frequent travellers which again has a simultaneous display of three time zones. No longer is the Glycine creation based on three separate automatic movements, however, but for the first time on just one single movement which controls the three time zones simultaneously by means of an ingenious complication.

The advantage over conventional GMT watches is obvious: the face is divided into one main dial with the main time zone (12-hour clock) and two smaller integrated dials with a 24-hour time zone each. The human eye can take in the three time zones at one glance and the display is much easier for pilots and frequent travellers to read. The beautifully crafted dial with its quality finish is inspired by the sleek structure of the turbojet engine and comes in dark blue and anthracite.

Attention has also been paid to practicality and Glycine has come up with a really user-friendly feature by having two 24-hour time zones which can be operated directly can be operated directly by simply pressing the main crown at 02h00. (1st GMT zone) or the button at 04h00. (2nd GMT zone).

The AIRMAN SEVEN comes in an elegant, polished stainless steel case with an ample diameter of  46 mm, combining innovation and elegance in their most beautiful form.

GLYCINE AIRMAN No.1 – New Version with 36mm Steel Case

The 100-year-old traditional company Glycine Watch SA is a renowned specialist in mechanical aviators’ and diving watches. To mark its 60th birthday one year ago, Glycine relaunched its legendary pilot watch AIRMAN – the first 24-hour watch in the world with a second time zone – in a unique trilogy of yellow, red and white gold with the original “Felsa 692” movement.

The market response was extremely positive, which encouraged Glycine to reintroduce the AIRMAN No.1 in its original dimensions as a 36-mm steel version and to permanently include it in the collection as a genuine vintage watch.

The flying legend was born back in 1953. Sam Glur, then the enthusiastic Sales Director of Glycine SA, was sitting in the cockpit during a flight from Bangkok to Calcutta listening to the pilots explaining the ideal requirements of a pilot watch. The results of this stimulating discussion were then sent in a neatly handwritten letter to the Glycine factory. As they were always crossing several time zones, the pilots wanted a watch with a 24-hour display but not just an ordinary 24-hour watch, they wanted one with a second time zone so that they could see the time at the arrival airport as well as the time at the departure airport. The Airman concept was born a few months later: a compact automatic watch with rotating bezel, double 24-hour display and date. The watch became an instant hit in the market and gained cult status among US Air Force pilots in particular.

With loving care, watchmaking expertise and great attention to detail, the “AIRMAN No.1” is now being manufactured for the second time on the basis of the original plans and is presented in the legendary Airman wooden case, just as it was in 1953.

Following in the footsteps of the Felsa 692 (1953-1960) and various movements by A. Schild (1960-1978), the “AIRMAN No. 1” is now powered by a GL 293 calibre which ideally meets contemporary requirements. The legendary pilot watch is available in the original version as a double 24-hour watch and as a 12-hour watch with two 24-hour GMT displays.

GLYCINE F104 New References – 3932 (48 mm) and 3933 (40 mm)

The traditional Swiss watch maker GLYCINE is extending its F104 line. With the F104, Glycine pays tribute to the legendary Lockheed F104 aircraft, the leading fighter plane of the 1950s and 1960s.The unmistakable F104 can be identified at first glance thanks to its harmonious yet ergonomic shape and perfectly-balanced dial.

Glycine has recognised the possibilities offered by this timelessly beautiful, unique shape and expanded the F104 family (diameter 48 mm) with the particularly successful smaller version bearing a diameter of 40 mm.

The Glycine F 104 has a flat sapphire crystal as well as a special leather strap in a “pilot look” with two rivets on either side. The glass back, fixed by six screws, allows you to view the fascinating Swiss automatic movement. The polished stainless steel case, which has a rounded shape, looks good on any wrist thanks to the movable lugs. The elegant conical crown – carried over from the original model – adds a touch of nostalgia to this watch, which is waterproof to 3 atm.

With this watch, Glycine will not only make fans of smaller watches happy, but also re-establish itself on the ladies’ watch market in an impressive manner, a mere 100 years after it was first founded. The new F104 (40 mm) will be available in the classic steel version with a black, sand-brown or silver white dial or blue and black mother-of-pearl dial with diamonds. And for those who would like something a little more sumptuous, Glycine has a particularly classy piece of jewellery for you with its diamond-studded black case with mother-of-pearl diamonds.

Glycine Airman Airfighter Reference 3921

Just in time to mark the company’s 100th anniversary, the traditional watchmaker Glycine has launched a new pilot watch, the Airman AIRFIGHTER.

No watch connoisseur will fail to see the unmistakable DNA of the Airman which forms the basis for the new Airman AIRFIGHTER’s fascinating case. The Airman AIRFIGHTER is first and foremost a genuine pilot’s watch with three individual time zones. The second time zone is located elegantly on the inner bezel and can be easily read thanks to a dynamic GMT hand with white triangular tip in the 24-hour zone. The hand can be operated directly and easily by turning the central crown. The third time zone is operated using the 24-hour rotating bezel, typical of the Airman by simply turning the bezel after releasing the lower locking crown.

The stage for the perfect interplay of the three time zones is a finely crafted and very high-quality dial, perfectly complemented by the beautiful hands. Anti-reflective and scratch-resistant sapphire glass on both sides protects the watch from external influences and guarantees maximum readability of the three time zones.

The watch is enclosed in a striking and carefully worked 46mm case. It is fitted with a chronograph mechanism with the revolutionary sliding actuator located on the left side of the case. This is easily achieved using the right thumb.

The Airman AIRFIGHTER is driven by a high-quality decorated movement of the automatic calibre GL754. A beautifully skeletonised aircraft on the oscillating weight of the movement will only make the hearts of watch enthusiasts beat faster and adds just that extra touch of elegance.

This masterpiece is available in three versions with a blue, red or carbon-black dial, each with matching leather straps.

GLYCINE AIRMAN SPHAIR

In good time for its anniversary, the popular Airman 17 has been given an elegant facelift without losing the typical DNA of a genuine Airman in the process. The new version is somewhat lighter and more elegant than its predecessor and is being offered in classic steel versions with blue, black and white dials. In spite of this, the “SPHAIR” has an impressive diameter of 46 mm and the slightly more unassuming AIRMAN 18 38 mm.

The high point of the new AIRMAN 17 “SPHAIR” has to be the attractive steel version with a black rotating bezel, crown and rotating bezel holder in rubber. The new version features an automatic rhodinised Swiss movement which is available either as the version with two 24-hour time zones (Purist) or as a 12-hour time zone with two extra 24-hour displays (GMT).

The new AIRMAN 17 “SPHAIR” is on the market at prices from 1990 Swiss Francs. The recommended guide price for the basic model of the AIRMAN 18 “SPHAIR” is 1890 Swiss Francs.

GLYCINE 1953 VINTAGE AIRMAN

1953 – It is now almost 60 years since Sam Glur, then Sales Director of the Biel watchmaking company Glycine, was sitting in the cockpit of a DC4 between Bangkok and Calcutta, listening to the pilots carefully explaining the ideal requirements of a modern frequent-flyer watch. Their wish list included a watch with an automatic movement, a 24-hour display, a second time zone and luminous numerals.

The Airman “1953 Vintage” is a tribute to the AIRMAN No.1 by Glycine, and is a faithful reproduction of the original, but updated with the latest technical requirements.

This timeless beauty is powered by a rhodanised Swiss automatic movement. Entirely in keeping with the AIRMAN No.1, the watch is only available as a 24-hour watch with two time zones, that is, as a purist design.

This ageless and alluring timepiece is presented just as it was 60 years ago in a wooden case true to the original, together with a 1950’s style guarantee certificate. Only 600 pieces of the anniversary AIRMAN are being made available at a recommended retails price of 2350 Swiss francs.

GLYCINE Airman “1953 Vintage” Limited Edition

1953 – It is now almost 60 years since Sam Glur, then Sales Director of the Biel watchmaking company Glycine, was sitting in the cockpit of a DC4 between Bangkok and Calcutta, listening to the pilots carefully explaining the ideal requirements of a modern frequent-flyer watch. Their wish list included a watch with an automatic movement, a 24-hour display, a second time zone and luminous numerals.

So the inspiration for the legendary AIRMAN occurred in-flight. The first Airman was developed and introduced to the market that same year, becoming one of the real pioneers of Swiss pilot watches. Since then, a further 25 generations have followed on from the original, all based on the distinctive AIRMAN DNA.

The Airman “1953 Vintage” is a tribute to the AIRMAN No.1 by Glycine, and is a faithful reproduction of the original, but updated with the latest technical requirements. This timeless beauty is powered by a rhodanised automatic movement ETA 2893.

Entirely in keeping with the AIRMAN No.1, the watch is only available as a 24-hour watch with two time zones, that is, as a purist design. The beautiful dial is highly reminiscent of the 1950s and the unforgettable era of the real pioneers of pilot watches. This ageless and alluring timepiece is presented just as it was 60 years ago in a wooden case true to the original, together with a 1950’s style guarantee certificate. Time is precious and Glycine has succeeded in packaging it exquisitely.

This watch will be enthusiastically received and not only by collectors and connoisseurs. GLYCINE AIRMAN Base 22 “MYSTERY”

Swiss watch brand GLYCINE adds the new Base 22 “MYSTERY” model to its impressive and distinctive AIRMAN collection. The “MYSTERY” is available in mysterious black and even at first glance, it is clearly an Airman and meets the exacting requirements of an aviator watch. The 42mm black case, black dial with clear luminous elements and comfortable NATO strap are not only aesthetically harmonious but make it ideally suitable for night missions.

This black beauty is powered by a rhodanised ETA 2893 movement. The Base 22 “MYSTERY” is completely in keeping with Glycine tradition as the watch is available in 2 different versions: a basic 24-hour watch with two time zones (the so-called “purist”) and the GMT version with 3 time zones and red GMT hand.

The origin of the legendary Airman dates back to 1953. It was developed in flight, between Bangkok and Calcutta. During the flight, the pilots explained to a Glycine employee exactly what airline pilots were looking for in a modern frequent-flyer watch. The first Airman was developed and introduced to the market that same year, becoming one of the real pioneers of Swiss aviator watches.

A year after the successful launch of the Glycine Airman SST Chronograph, Swiss watch brand Glycine announces the arrival of the Airman SST 12, Version Milano.

This eye-catching watch bridges the link between past and present. The Airman SST 12 is the 25th member of the Airman family since its debut in 1953. The SST watch is inspired by the Boeing Supersonic Transport (SST), the first scheduled supersonic airliner that was cancelled in 1971 before the two prototypes had been completed. An image of the plane is engraved on the back steel case. Glycine has chosen the proven ETA-2893 calibre to power the new watch which stays true to the elegant shape of the original Airman with its 43mm steel case equipped with a large angular steel bezel. The slit-headed crown is another typical feature that stays true to the original watch.

GLYCINE – KMU 48 & KMU 48 limited

Swiss watch brand GLYCINE announces the return of its “oversized” classic KMU 48. The imposing manual watch delights with its harmonious synthesis of watchcase, dial, movement and strap. With its 48 mm diameter, the KMU makes a familiar and striking impression on the watch market without straying from Glycine’s deliberately chosen path of always being one step away from the mainstream.

The KMU 48 is being relaunched in a steel version with black dial and an extra-large second display at the six o’clock position, as well as discreet brown hands with strong luminous material. The heart of the watch is a specially decorated and precisely worked manual winding movement, which is enclosed by a stylish smoked-glass back.

A special treat for watch lovers is the limited series of black PVD coated watches powered by the calibre, Unitas 6497. Glycine has devoted particular attention to the design of the dial. The dial is a wonderful construction on two levels with extra-large second display at the 9 o’clock position. Two hundred and fifty pieces of this classic contemporary watch have been made.

The origin of the KMU 48 goes back to the well-known military watches of the last century. Glycine launched the first replica of such watches as early as 1999. In the meantime, demand has grown so strong that the KMU 48 has established itself firmly as a distinct family of watches in Glycine’s proud collection.

Glycine COMBAT SUB Collection: “Stealth” and “Golden Eye”

Swiss watch brand Glycine expands its COMBAT SUB automatic watch collection with two new models: “Stealth” and “Golden Eye”.

The COMBAT Family is undoubtedly one of the most popular collections of Glycine and is considered by experts to be a watch for knowledgeable aficionado’s. Glycine’s Combat represents reliability and quality. The choice of components for the COMBAT SUB has a primary purpose: Robustness – and therefore safety for divers. The case is made of stainless steel and is equipped with a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal and a protected, screw-down crown. Luminous elements and a clear uncluttered design ensure outstanding legibility of the dial – a major concern of Glycine.

Glycine COMBAT SUB :Stealth

The distinctive rotating bezel is now also available in green, blue and brown. These new bezels give the COMBAT SUB a classic diver’s look. The dials were once again upgraded and the striking crown emblem of the 98-year-old brand is a real eye-catcher. The engraved divers’ symbol on the case back completes this sturdy diving-watch. The COMBAT SUB has a case diameter of 42mm and comes with a rubber divers strap, a high-tec tissue strap or a very sturdy steel bracelet.

The undoubted highlights of the new collection are the two COMBAT SUB models with a black PVD coated case named “Stealth” and “Golden Eye”. The almost sinister COMBAT SUB “Stealth” convinces during both day- and nighttime with its dark grey and black dial.

Glycine COMBAT SUB: Golden Eye

The prestigious “Golden Eye”, with its black PVD coating and a bezel made of 5N rose gold is appealing both underwater and on dry land. Both watches are equipped with the reliable ETA 2824 movement and cost between CHF 800 and CHF 980.

Glycine Airman SST 12

A year after the successful launch of the Glycine Airman SST Chronograph, Glycine announces the arrival of the Airman SST 12, 25th generation of the legendary Airman Line. This eye-catching watch embodies the link between past and present times in perfect shape. The Airman SST 12 is the 25th member of the Airman family since its debut in 1953.

Glycine is well known for its individuality and creativity and the new Airman SST 12 that combines unique shapes of a long gone era with the technology of today, confirms that. The new Airman displays three time zones with two time zones shown on the 24-hour display. For true purists, the watch is also available with just two time zones as a 24-hour watch.

The SST watch is inspired by the Boeing Supersonic Transport (SST), the first scheduled supersonic airliner that was cancelled in 1971 before the two prototypes had been completed. The illusive plane that never flew is engraved on the steel case back.

Glycine has chosen the proven ETA-2893 calibre to power the new watch which stays true to the elegant shape of the original Airman with its 43mm steel case equipped with a large angular steel bezel. The slit-headed crown is another typical feature that stays true to the original watch. The new Airman is available in three colors: black with an orange 24-hour rotating bezel, black with a black bezel and blue with a blue bezel. Prices for the new emblematic Glycine Airman SST 12 start at 1750 Swiss francs.

Glycine Airman SST Chronograph Reference 3902

Swiss watch brand Glycine unveils the Airman SST Chronograph, the 24th generation of its Airman family of watch collections. It is based on the legendary original model which was launched in 1968.

In 1968, this was Glycine’s first chronograph − at that time the watch company from Biel/Bienne had only produced about 100 pieces of this special version of the Airman SST. Today it is a desirable collector’s piece.

Glycine is now reviving the Airman SST Chronograph as the 24th generation of their Airman watches – combining the exceptional beauty of the original model with today’s technology. The features which make this watch so special are common to both the original and the remake − for example the 43-mm diameter steel case, the 14-sided screwed steel bezel or the typical crown to operate the 24-hour rotating bezel.

The ergonomic design of the case accommodates the ETA 7754 movement perfectly, making the watch comfortable to wear on the wrist. On the steel back, there is an engraving of the aircraft which gave its name to the watch: a Boeing Supersonic Transport (SST), which was planned to be the first supersonic plane but was never built. This Airman watch is affectionately known as “Pumpkin” due to the fact that the typical version has a black dial and orange 24-hour rotating bezel. Glycine produces a 24-hour watch with two time zones for purists. The GMT version with 12-hour display shows three time zones.

Included with the purchase of the watch is the book “Glycine Airman – a 24 hour timeline of flight”, which is an account of the story behind the Airman watch. All 23 previous generations of the Airman SST Chronograph are presented here, including the first Airman by Glycine dating back to 1953, the Airman Quartz from the 1970s, the oversized Airman 7 with three independent movements (2002) or the Airman Double 24 from 2009.

Glycine Lagunare Automatic L1000 Reference 3899

Ten years after the first Lagunare appeared on the market, Swiss watch brand Glycine is now launching the diver watch Lagunare Automatic L1000. With a diameter of 44 millimetres, it has a more compact design than its predecessors.

Strong in character with a robust and functional design, the Lagunare is a real eye-catcher. During the ten years since the first model was launched, Glycine’s diver watch line has gained considerable popularity, amongst both divers and watch lovers. Glycine is now launching another remarkable model: the Lagunare Automatic L 1000. This is the first model to have a diameter of 44 millimetres – all the previous models of this line were 2 millimetres larger.

The Lagunare Automatic L1000 is water-resistant to a depth of 1000 feet – hence its name –, that is to a depth of 300 metres. The watch is available with three different dials: the highly luminous version with a black dial and an orange minute hand which is a key requirement for diver watches, the elegant version with a white dial and the watery blue version which arouses a longing for the sea.

Distinctive features of all three versions are the characteristic luminous element on the rotating bezel and the blocking crown at the 4 o’clock position.Suggested retail price for Lagunare Automatic L1000 is CHF 1,350 (for rubber strap) and CHF 1,600 (for steel bracelet).

Glycine – Incursore II 44mm manual (Reference 3901) and Incursore III 44mm automatic (Reference 3900)

When Swiss watch brand Glycine first introduced its Incursore model 12 years ago, it was considered one of the precursors of the big-size watches with a diameter of 44 mm. This plain and simple timepiece was immediately successful in Italy and soon afterwards gained a foothold in other markets. Thanks to its clear design which is reminiscent of the military watches of the 1930s, the “intruder” has become one of Glycine’s most popular model ranges. After numerous further developments, including for example the power reserve, Glycine is now reverting back to the era when Incursore was first launched. The new models are visually strongly reminiscent of the first models of this line but with refinements. For example, the glass is now domed and the hands are plainer than those of previous models.

It all started with the manual winder. Glycine’s first Incursore launched in 1998 was a manual one. Glycine is also presents a manual watch in addition to the automatic model and has used the UT movement 6498 for the first time in the Incursore’s history. This means that the second hand is now at the 6-o’clock position, which will be appreciated by enthusiasts of manual winding watches.

Incursore II 44mm manual, reference 3901
The Incursore manual watch with satinated stainless steel case is available in two versions: the classic dial with Arabic numbers at 3, 6, 9 and 12 o’clock as well as the popular Incursore Lux dial which characterized the first generation of this model. On this unusual dial, there are Roman numerals in the top half and Arabic numbers in the bottom half.

It is available with a satinated or polished stainless steel case, with a classic dial or with a Lux dial in four versions: black as well as finely structured in black, aubergine and dark blue. Glycine Lagunare Chrono L1000

Besides pilot watches, diver’s watches are also a flagship for Glycine. This year, the watch company from Biel is presenting a diver’s watch with an integrated chronograph. The Lagunare Chrono L1000 is the ultimate sports watch which still looks like a piece of jewellery despite its range of features and is an elegant accessory to a suit and tie.

Domed sapphire glass, screwed pushers and rotating bezel give the Lagunare Chrono L1000 the typical appearance of a diver’s watch. The chrono functions are the most striking characteristics of the dial. The 12-hour counter is located at the six o’clock position, the permanent second display at the nine o’clock position and the 30-minute counter at the 12 o’clock position. The Lagunare Chrono L1000 also owes its name to its water resistance. The watch is resistant to a depth of 1000 ft, which is around 300 m.

Glycine Airman Base 22 Pilot Watch Reference 3887

It has everything an Airman needs, no more and no less. In appearance and size, it is reminiscent of the first Airman made in 1953, especially the model with a white dial. It remains true to the original right down to the details, for example the lattice structure on the crown. The Airman Base 22 is a watch for purists, for those who prefer the classic Airman.
The Airman Base 22 will be available in three versions: firstly, as a basic 24-hour watch with two time zones, secondly as a GMT version with 3 time zones and red GMT hand and finally as a frequent-flyer GMT version. This “GA version” – named after the initials of the initiator, a former pilot – allows time zone change on the easily legible main hour hand without having to stop the movement. Glycine Airman F 104 Regulateur Reference 3893

The first generation of the F 104 which came on the market in 2001 already had a strong association with flying – its appearance was reminiscent of the cockpit display in an aircraft. But the F 104 is now also available as a genuine pilot watch with corresponding functions.

The second time zone can be seen on the rotating bezel with its 24-hour display. However, you only recognize features of the original when you take a closer look at the Airman F 104 Regulateur. At the latest when you notice the antique crown or the flexible, conspicuous lugs, it becomes clear that this watch has to be an F 104.

As a regulator – hour, minute and second displays run separately – the watch immediately attracts attention. Experts may be baffled by the particular arrangement of the hands. Here, the 24 hours are displayed from the centre in accordance with the requirements of a pilot’s watch. Classic regulators, on the other hand, show the minutes from the central position. The Airman F 104 Regulateur has the minute function placed at the top at the midnight position and the second function below at the midday position. A further eyecatching feature is the luminous hour hand with red tip.

Glycine Combat 6 Automatic, Reference 3890

With the sixth generation of the Combat series, Glycine introduces both a new automatic watch and a manual wind watch to the market. The sober, traditional design gives the sixth generation of the Combat series a touch of military style from the 1940s and 1950s. As with all Glycine watches, it is easy to read the time, particularly thanks to Superluminova on the hands and index or numbers – a trademark of the Combat watches.

Case diameter is 43mm. As simple and functional as Katherina Brechbühler has designed the automatic and the manual wind models, it is still the details that give the Combat 6 its special touch: for example the see-through back or the orange coloured 24 on the index version. Both the dial and mineral glass are domed. The latter is domed both on the inside and outside – a detail that has made it possible to design the case very ergonomically.

Glycine LAGUNARE Certified Chronometer 3000

Beautiful, strong and very safe is a short description of the extraordinary diver watch LAGUNARE LCC 3000. Thanks to its elaborately designed case, it is water-resistant up to 1000 metres. The high class, refined, COSC-certified movement is protected by a coat of soft iron, giving the watch enormous resistance against magnetic fields – much stronger than official standards for antimagnetic watches require. The extra strong sapphire glass is domed.

The handling of the LCC 3000 when diving is also very dependable and safe thanks to its functionality: the unidirectional, rotating lockable diver’s bezel is marked with clear relief numbers and the deep grooves provide a good grip. The mechanism at 2 o’clock allows the diver to block or release the rotating bezel. The main crown at 3 o’clock is protected by a hinge- operated flap.

Located in the side of the case at 9 o’clock is the automatic helium valve, while the manual helium valve is operated by the crown at 4 o’clock. Limited edition of 300.

Glycine – Airman Double 24 09 and Airman 7 DLC Golden Rim

Glycine Watch SA demonstrates continuity at the Baselworld 2009, presenting two new models from their legendary Airman-Family. And, on display for the first time, the complete collection of World Time Watches since 1953.

The heritage company from Biel has been manufacturing the legendary world time watches for over 55 years. And the story continues. The long-established company from Biel will be presenting two new models this year: the Airman Double 24 09 and the Airman 7 DLC Golden Rim.

Airman Double 24 09 – 4 times 24 hours
The 24-hour watch is immediately recognizable as an Airman from Glycine – but the functionality of the Airman Double 24 09 goes even further than the previous models. Four independent time zones can be selected thanks to the special movement 2424 and independent inner and outer bezels. The inner bezel can be set with the screw down crown at four o’clock on the 24-hour display, the hands at six o’clock and the blocking system for the outer bezel at eight o’clock.

Katherina Brechbühler designed the watch with much care for detail. The inner orange or yellow coloured 24-hour scale, the perfectly matched length of the hands, the clear luminous elements and the diameter of 44 millimetres make the Airman Double 24 09 not only aesthetically harmonious, but also ideally legible.

Airman 7 DLC Golden Rim
The Glycine collection’s largest figurehead is the Airman 7 – and that is to be taken literally, too: The pilot watch with three independent movements has an impressive diameter of 53 millimetres. The newest version of the Airman 7, the DLC Golden Rim, combines four high quality materials: titanium, carbon, DLC and – gold. The case is made of titanium and coated with extra hard, black matt Diamond-Like- Carbon DLC, the movement ring is made of carbon fibre. The gold rim made of 18 carat red gold creates a stately contrast to the technically high quality materials. Glycine will put only ten of these noble watches on the market.

The whole Airman family in Basel
Along with the new models Glycine will, for the first time, present the complete collection of its Airman watches. “For the longest time we were missing the legendary SST-Chronograph dating back to 1969, but now we have finally found one again in Germany”, says CEO Katherina Brechbühler. Nobody knows exactly how many of these watches were manufactured back then – not even the Glycine chronicle. According to Katherina Brechbühler, there were probably no more than 100 of them even though more were planned.

The story began in 1953 with the Airman Original – and is far from being over:
