Ferragamo Timepieces SS19 Collection

The latest additions to the men’s Ferragamo Timepiece family are the Ferragamo Timepiece and the F-80.

The Ferragamo Timepiece collection is vintage inspired with a contemporary twist and rectangular in shape. The case, either in champagne or rose gold, frames a white laquer dial and the case back is embellished with an engraving of Palazzo Spini Feroni, the historic headquarters of the house in Florence. The karung leather strap comes in a palette of sharp, vibrant tones – reflecting the Salvatore Ferragamo SS19 runway collection.

The men’s F-80 is the best-selling line from Salvatore Ferragamo Timepieces, and has been renewed with this year’s colour: green. The steel case is slimmer and smaller than before, offering pure comfort on the wrist.

A sunray finish makes the dial brighter and more elegant, while the Karung leather strap is backed with rubber, mirroring Salvatore Ferragamo’s iconic flair for experimentation with materials and the leatherwork that is part of its heritage.

The Gancini is the most iconic symbol from Salvatore Ferragamo, and has evolved with a more contemporary twist.

Available in two ladies sizes, the Gancini is slimmer and sleeker and the mother-of-pearl dial gives the watch a more chic, feminine feel with a touch of glamour.

These timepieces are available from April 2019, at Ferragamo Boutiques. Recommended retail prices are £750-£850 for Ferragamo gent’s, £770for Ferragamo ladies’, £950 for F-80 and £450-£820 for Gancini.

Ferragamo Timepieces

Salvatore Ferragamo was born in Bonito (near Naples) in 1898, the eleventh of fourteen children. Even before he reached adolescence he revealed a great passion for shoes: At the age of 13 he opened his own shop in Bonito. At the age of 14 he went to America and joined one of his brothers in Santa Barbara, California, where he opened a shoe-repair shop.

Salvatore started working for the movie industry and making boots for westerns and sandals for historic epics. Actors and actresses became aware of the beauty, craftsmanship and comfort of Salvatore’s shoes and soon began to order footwear to wear off the set. Meanwhile Salvatore himself, in his constant search for “shoes which fit perfectly” studied human anatomy, chemical engineering and mathematics at the University of Los Angeles.

When the cinema industry moved to Hollywood, Salvatore followed. In 1923 he opened the “Hollywood Boot Shop”, which marked the start of his career as “shoemaker of the stars”. Famous names such as Mary Pickford, Rudolph Valentino, John Barrymore Jr., Douglas Fairbanks and Gloria Swanson, became his devoted customers and his popularity boomed. In 1927, Salvatore decided to return to Italy, to Florence, a city traditionally rich in skilled craftsmanship. From his Florentine workshop he launched a constant stream of exports to the States.

Despite the great crisis of 1929 which brusquely interrupted relations with the American market, Ferragamo did not lose heart but instead turned his energies to the national market and exploited his inventive genius, succeeding in producing some of his most popular and widely imitated creations, such as the strong but light cork ‘wedges’. Cork, wood, metal wire, raffia, felt and glass-like synthetic resins were among the innovative materials that Ferragamo used to creatively replace the leather and steel which the regime of autarchy prevented him from using.

On the strength of his success, in 1938 Ferragamo was able to purchase the entire Palazzo Spini Feroni, which has been Company headquarters ever since. In the post-war period, all over the world, Salvatore Ferragamo shoes became a symbol of Italy’s reconstruction through design and production. These were years of memorable inventions: the metal-reinforced stiletto heels made famous by Marilyn Monroe, gold sandals, and the ‘invisible’ sandals with uppers made from nylon thread (which in 1947 were to win Ferragamo the prestigious ‘Neiman Marcus Award’, the Oscar of the fashion world, awarded for the first time to a footwear designer).

In 1950 the Company numbered 700 employees and was producing 350 shoes a day by hand. Success was once again international:the Via Tornabuoni shop became an essential stop-off for celebrities such as Greta Garbo, Sofia Loren, Anna Magnani, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor and Audrey Hepburn.

When Salvatore Ferragamo died in 1960 he had realised the great dream of his life: to create and produce the most beautiful shoes in the world. His family was left the task of carrying on and fulfilling the plan that Salvatore had begun to embrace in his final years: transforming Ferragamo into a fashion house. His wife Wanda Ferragamo Miletti suddenly found herself at the head of the Company.

Thanks to her intelligence, strength of character and clear sighted economic and commercial vision, Salvatore Ferragamo has now become a major fashion house. It was under her direction that the Company took the ‘great step’ of expanding from footwear only into other sectors including men’s and women’s ready-to-wear and silk accessories. Her eldest daughter, Fiamma, started working for the Company when she was 16 and worked for a year under the inspired guidance of Salvatore Ferragamo.

The internationally prestigious “Neiman Marcus Award” paid tribute to Fiamma Ferragamo’s creativity in 1967, exactly twenty years after her father had received the same Award. Since then her talent has received further international acclaim following her creation of famous footwear models such as the VARA shoe, with its gros-grain bow designed in 1978 and still in production, and other accessories that became symbols of the Salvatore Ferragamo style, like the celebrated GANCINO used to decorate shoes, bags and garments. Today, the basic principles underlying Salvatore Ferragamo’s art of shoemaking are reflected in the entire product range. Quality of materials and craftsmanship, comfort and freedom of movement, together with “Made in Italy” elegance, are still the Ferragamo hallmarks that most appeal to the customer.

In 1998 Ferragamo entered an eyewear licensing agreement with Luxottica. In 2007 Ferragamo signed a licensing agreement with the Swiss Luxury Division of Timex Group to produce and distribute timepiece collections.

Salvatore Ferragamo Timepieces – Signature Collection

Salvatore Ferragamo presents the Signature Collection, a new special project focusing on the world of Eyewear and Timepieces inspired by the Gancio, the Maison’s iconic ring-like symbol. An exclusive capsule of sunglasses and watches that constitute a revisiting of key strands in Ferragamo’s DNA.

Rich of heritage and contemporary content, The Signature Collection builds on the main stylistic traits of Salvatore Ferragamo’s work: the use of colour (with a palette combining vibrant with more traditional tones), a sophisticated mix of materials drawing on continuous experimentation, and glamour, a key element in the strong and uninterrupted relationship between the brand and the world of cinema and Hollywood stardom.

Care over detail becomes a hallmark and culminates in a new and modern interpretation of the Gancio form. In the Eyewear line, the Gancio shaped ornament wraps around the oversize frame to end up on the back, while in the Timepieces collection it appears on the lugs on the sides of the case and climaxes on the case back. In all the versions – stainless steel, IP gold or two-tone – the watches measure 38 mm in diameter and mount a strictly Swiss Made quartz movement.

Inspired by the theme of colour – so central to Salvatore Ferragamo creations – the Timepieces offering plays on vibrant hues like the fuchsia, grey or orange of the elaphe skin straps and combines them with deliciously nuanced guilloché sunray dials. Likewise, the Signature sunglasses express this mood through a sumptuous palette of graded tones: black-grey, turquoise, airforce blue, orange, burgundy and brown.

Salvatore Ferragamo’s eclectic juxtaposition of materials, the fruit of symbiosis between creative experimentation and sheer craftsmanship, is seen in the original use of karung, a highly prized skin, in two of the sunglass versions: black with chocolate temples and havana with black temples. Similarly, the watch with diamond studded lugs has the eccentricity of a dégradé blue, nude or beige karung strap.

Lastly, The Signature Collection nods to the world of glamour in its more exclusive versions: on the wrist, diamond dust on dials and diamonds on lugs or top-ring, while eyes are veiled by sophisticated crystals and studs.

Salvatore Ferragamo Timepieces – GANCINO SOIRÉE

Salvatore Ferragamo Timepieces is enhancing the GANCINO SOIRÉE line with five new variations. Presented last year with a metal bracelet, this evening watch features smart, colourful straps that set off the iconic shape of the case.

These patent leather straps are interpreted in five striking colourways: blue and white with a steel case and natural mother of pearl dial; black and Ferragamo red, providing the ideal accompaniment for the warm tones of pink gold and also reprised in the dial; and finally beige in the most precious version, featuring 40 diamonds set at the indices and on the top ring. Small in size as always (24 mm diameter), Gancino Soirée is an exclusive jewellery model with refined feminine styling.

Salvatore Ferragamo Timepieces – FERRAGAMO 1898

The name is a tribute to the Maison Ferragamo founder’s year of birth. This highly successful collection for men is now joined by five new chronographs featuring an equally determined and essential design. The 42 mm steel case and top ring, also in IP gold, reprises the shape of the Gancino.

The dial, powered by a Swiss Made quartz movement, contains the chrono totalizers, second indicator and date window. Salvatore Ferragamo Timepieces – VEGA

The collection VEGA consists of timepieces with striking personality dressed in clean and classical designs. The main feature is once again the iconic Gancino motif, interpreted here with a novel approach in which its profile doubles up to create the case structure and is reprised as a decoration on the dial. Ideal as a pair watch, Vega has two formats: a 32 mm diameter model for women’s wrists and a 38 mm unisex version. Both “time only” propositions have a Swiss made quartz movement.

The basic models feature steel cases and black mother of pearl or guilloché dials for self-assured, carefree tastes. The smartest and most sophisticated models have a total chocolate look for gents and trendy violet for ladies, featuring a dial embellished with diamonds at the indices.

Salvatore Ferragamo Timepieces – F80 Carbon Fiber 44mm and F80 Quartz Chronograph 44mm

Created to mark Maison Ferragamo’s 80th anniversary, this line is the best expression of the brand’s experimental and research-driven spirit. Based on the harmonious juxtaposition of hi-tech and innovative materials, it unites various models with cutting edge designs and a striking graphical impact.

F-80 Carbon Fiber is an absolute novelty. With its appealing look and high-performance functions, this GMT model is designed for the most demanding of globetrotters. It has a 44 mm diameter case in carbon fiber and an orange caoutchouc strap that is colour coordinated with hands, numbers and indices which stand out against the black display for immediate legibility.
The Swiss Made quartz movement has a second time zone indicator on the outer perimeter of the dial, with a 24h scale ring and a day/night function; the range of information provided is completed by the seconds counter and date window. F-80 Carbon Fiber is also available in two all-black versions with titanium and yellow detailing.
The brightest of colours are featured also in the new blue, fuchsia and yellow versions of the F-80 Chronograph, accentuating the model’s innate calling for sport-luxury, which is also clearly expressed by the materials: black IP titanium for the case, brushed ceramic for the top ring with tachometer scale and caoutchouc for the strap. Exuberant and full of determination, there is also a more sober version in dark colourways with a titanium grey XL case.

Salvatore Ferragamo Timepieces – Gancino Sparkling

Effervescent and playful, but no less precious for this, Gancino Sparkling represents a breath of fresh air and good cheer. A delightful little charm applied to the case-middle at 4 o’clock and coloured gemstones set in the revolving top ring represent two mobile features that give the watch a sparkling, vivacious look and together pay tribute to Salvatore Ferragamo’s passion for gemstones.

The novel Double Tour version revolves entirely around colour, with juxtapositions designed to emphasise the chromatic effects to the full. The strap winds twice around the wrist and is made of supple leather in various colourways: fuchsia, orange, white or tobacco, set off against pink, sky blue or multicolour topaz stones that embellish the steel or IP gold case with flashes of brilliance.
The new Gancino Sparkling Bracelet, on the other hand, has a metal bracelet and is available in two versions: all-steel, with black guilloché dial decorated with the iconic Gancino and a case enriched with black spinels; or IP gold, with dégradé rhodolite stones on the top ring and in the charm.

Salvatore Ferragamo Timepieces – POEMA Collection

The brand new POEMA Collection by Salvatore Ferragamo Timepieces consists of different models of watches inspired from the night sky that glow with stars. Its dial studded as it is with precious stones evoking the Milky Way.

It comes in three uniquely alluring models: the first, with a 34 mm stainless steel case and a full pavé of blue sapphires crossed by a luminous trail of diamonds; the second, with an IP gold case setting of rubies and diamonds; and the third, with a stainless steel case and a pavé of diamonds spangled with coloured gemstones (blue and yellow sapphires, rubies, purple sapphires and tsavorites).

As a tribute to Salvatore Ferragamo’s passion for precious stones, vibrant colours and prestige leathers, Poema has a genuine alligator strap, nuanced to match the dial, and diamonds set in the bezel. And the high precision automatic Swiss movement can be admired through the sapphire glass case back.
Similar aesthetically and as regards the movement, the automatic model is just as glamorous with its simple white dial and is ultra-feminine as well. Here as well the dial with a constellation of diamonds, has Roman numerals at the positions of 12 and 6 o’clock, while the elegant wrist strap is crocodile- print patent leather in hallmark Ferragamo red. This exclusive creation comes in a limited edition of only one hundred numbered watches.
Equally refined is the quartz version, differentiated by its black or silver guilloché dial graced by a diamond at the position of 9 o’clock. It also comes with a case in warm tones of gold and in a 25 mm mini version. It has a white, black or purple crocodile-print strap or a two-tone stainless steel bracelet.

The men’s model, on the other hand, is characterized by a sport-chic mood. It’s a classic three-counter chronograph with a large size stainless steel or steel-IP gold case, a guilloché dial and a tachometric scale on the flange. The watch comes with a metal bracelet or a soft leather strap in a choice of fashionable colours.
The maison’s outstanding care for detail can also be seen in the black onyx cabochons on the crown and lugs, the double “gancino” shaped seconds hand counterweight and the sapphire crystal common to all the models in this new line.Glass is Sapphire crystal anti-reflection and scratch-resistant. Water resistant to 30 meters.

Crafted to the highest technical and quality standards of Swiss Made watch-making, the Poema Collection is produced by Timex Group Luxury Division.

Salvatore Ferragamo GANCINO Charms

It splits the seconds with all the elegance and personality that the Ferragamo Maison has stood for since its very origins. GANCINO charms, the new watch in the Salvatore Ferragamo Timepieces collection, breathes an atmosphere of colour and fresh creativity.

The key feature in this new timepiece is a small pendant in the shape of the brand’s iconic gancino on the side of the case, an endearingly feminine detail that lends vivacity and movement to the design. Natural stones in various subdued colours – amethyst, smoky quartz, rhodolite and citrine – illuminate the rotating bezel, an apt tribute to Salvatore Ferragamo’s passion for precious stones, which he often used to decorate the uppers, wedges and heels of his unforgettable shoes.
The quartz-movement GANCINO charms has a 36 mm stainless steel case with an integrated crown and a guilloché dial with a gancino motif in the middle. A slightly more sumptuous version has an IP gold case, a diamond gancino on the dial and 12 brilliant-cut diamonds on the rotating bezel.

Elegant leather straps in various colours matching the stones complete this new timepiece from the Florentine Maison. GANCINO charms is a new development of the aesthetic approach seen in previous collections: iconic elements of the brand are re-interpreted in watches crafted with the technical expertise of Timex Group Luxury Division.

Salvatore Ferragamo Timepieces Collection

Classic and contemporary watches, able to evoke with their temperament the iconic musts of  Salvatore Ferragamo’s great successes: from the partnership with Timex Group – Luxury Watches, here come the four Salvatore Ferragamo Timepieces collections.

These original pieces recall with subtlety and elegance different aspects of Ferragamo’s long history focused on “beauty”.All four collections, each according to its own peculiarity and whim, with their pure and refined design, pay a brilliant tribute to the Italian tradition of craftsmanship, which has always been able to combine luxury and creativity. The collection’s mechanical movements are the result of Swiss watchmaking excellence: from the automatic ones with sapphire crystal glass to the GMT chronograph up to the precious Tourbillon movement. Timeless watches completely immersed in our times. Wrist accessories always recognizable due to the signs of the Florence-based fashion house’s unique style.

Launched in July 2008, all the Salvatore Ferragamo Timepieces models will be available in the best Ferragamo boutiques and in the most prestigious jewelry’s shops spread all over the world.

1. Salvatore Ferragamo-F80 Watch
A collection of watches within the “Travel Luxury” area, characterized by an essential name, easy to remember yet strongly evocative. As a matter of fact, F-80 recalls the eightieth anniversary of the fashion house, featuring also the 8 number, considered a lucky number in Asia. The F-80 model interprets the “Travel Luxury” themes and the material experimentation, which are distinguishing traits of the brand’s tradition.

This watch combines the titanium structure with a refined ceramic, featured both on the bracelet and on the case top ring. The clean and linear design, the ultrapure sapphire crystal, the mechanical movement excellence characterize both the GMT Automatic Chronograph2 Time Zones and the outstanding automatic Tourbillon with an 18K gold case, produced on demand in limited edition.

2. Salvatore Ferragamo Gancino watch
A feminine collection centered on a peculiar symbol of the Ferragamo world: the famous Gancino, which was, and still is, used to close many accessories designed by Salvatore Ferragamo. The Gancino thus stars as the main feature of this elegant timepiece, strongly iconic, trendy and classic altogether.

The complete range starts from the basic version in stainless steel and goes up to the top one in solid gold with diamonds. Luxurious materials and precious jewel details further embellish this watch, perfect with the most sophisticated looks, as well as with the most informal ones.

3. Salvatore Ferragamo Vara Watch Collection
The Vara collection, inspired by the renowned Ferragamo shoe, which over the years has seduced women all around the world, pays a tribute to the creative use of the fashion house’s materials and colors. With a design borrowed from the shoe buckle, the Vara watch amazes with its kit of three interchangeable straps, allowing thus to customize the look in a fast, easy and stylish way.

The straps come from an accurate and original material research, as in the purest Ferragamo style: crocodile and lizard leather, gros grain, which feel soft and pleasant on the skin, all available in a rich chromatic offer, ranging from ruby-red to silver and orange, without leaving out the classic white and black. The collection includes models in stainless steel and in solid gold, with cases plain or embellished by 44 diamonds, mother-of-pearl or full paved dials.

4. Salvatore Ferragamo-Salvatore Watch Collection
Sharp and timeless, the Salvatore collection features a round case marked by a strong personalityvsubtly recalling, in its unique silhouette, the famous platform created by Salvatore Ferragamo in the ‘30s. Salvatore is a tribute to the fashion house’s “prophetic vision” and style which has always proved to be receptive of the spirit of the time.

Refined details pay homage to the brand’s craftsmanship tradition: straps in precious alligator leather, guilloche dials and, for the automatic models, case-backs in sapphire crystal that reveal the exclusive finishing of the mechanical movement. In some models, the stainless steel case is embellished by a bezel and by details in 18K rose-gold.

Special Features of Salvatore Ferragamo watches
SWISS MADE: All Salvatore Ferragamo watches are Swiss made as indicated on the dial. All movements used by Salvatore Ferragamo Timepieces are Swiss made (Valjoux, Eta, Ronda).

QUARTZ: The first quartz movement was created in 1967. Quartz is used to describe a watch powered by an oscillating quartz crystal which draws its power from a small battery. Oscillating 32,768 times per second, an electronic circuit divides this oscillation into precise increments of 1 second or less. At Salvatore Ferragamo Timepieces, quartz is used on 2 hands, 3 hands or quartz chronograph. Quartz watches are extremely accurate (3 minutes/ year). Watches have been made super-accurate by using a much higher frequency (e.g. 4.2 million cycles per second) or by using two oscillators and temperature compensation. If a Salvatore Ferragamo watch has a quartz movement, it is not written on the dial. Three examples of watches with quartz movements:ETA 956.112 on the F-80 33 mm, ETA 901.001 on the Vara and RONDA 1032 on the Assoluto.

BATTERIES: Only one type of battery is used for Salvatore Ferragamo Timepieces: a silver dioxide battery(between 4 to 6 years lifetime with a normal use). Three examples: RONDA 715 on the Salvatore Quartz 3 hands -6 years, ETA 251.471 on the F-80 quartz chronograph – 4 years and RONDA 1032 on the Palagio Lady – 5 years.

INDICATOR OF END OF LIFE (EOL): All Salvatore Ferragamo quartz watches have an indicator of “end of life” – “EOL”: the central seconds hand jumps every four seconds in order to signal that the battery is depleting. The battery should be replaced as soon as possible.

2 HANDS OR 3 HANDS: 2 hands show minutes and hours. 3 hands show seconds, minutes and hours. Three examples:RONDA 785 on the Palagio quartz 3 hands:::ETA 901.001 on the Gancino 2 hands:::RONDA 715 on the Salvatore 3 hands.

AUTOMATIC: The system was invented in Switzerland by Abraham Louis Perrelet in the 18th century: the mainspring is wound by the movements of the wearer’s arm. On the basis of the principle of terrestrial attraction, a rotor turns and transmits its energy to the spring by means of an appropriate mechanism. The number of watch components varies between 50 for a 3 hands to 300 for a chronograph. The power reserve of an automatic watch indicates the number of hours it takes to a movement to stop ticking (46 hours for the F-80 GMT). Automatic movements are appreciated by watch-fans (“a watch with a soul”) and are environment friendly (no need to change battery).

Automatic watches are 12 times less precise than quartz watches: variation of 3 minutes per month. If a Salvatore Ferragamo Timepiece has an automatic movement, it is written on the dial and its backcase is transparent so that the mechanism can be seen. Three examples of automatic movements at Salvatore Ferragamo Timepieces: VALJOUX 7750 on the F-80 Chronograph, ETA 2824-2 on the Salvatore Automatic 3 hands Rose Gold and SOPROD 753-24H GMT on the F-80 GMT.

ROTOR:The oscillating mass which winds an automatic movement. A rotor most commonly is free to rotate in a full 360 degrees and may wind the watch when it is rotatingin one direction only or indeed may wind in both directions through the use of reverser wheels and gears. The Salvatore Ferragamo logo is always engraved on the rotor, which is often treated with black Ion Plating. The rotor and the watch movement can be seen on all Salvatore Ferragamo automatic watches through a transparent back case made of sapphire crystal.

TOURBILLON: Device invented by Bréguet to eliminate errors of rate in the vertical positions and therefore compensate the effects of the earth attraction on the movement. It consists of a mobile cage carrying all the parts of the escapement, with the balance in the centre. The escape pinion turns about the fixed fourth wheel. The case makes one revolution per minute, thus annulling errors of rate in the vertical positions. Tourbillon watches are rare, complicated, and difficult to create, belonging therefore to the most expensive timepieces.

CHRONOGRAPH: Defines a movement with two independent time systems: one indicates the time of day, and the other measures brief intervals of time. Counters registering seconds, minutes and even hours can be started and stopped as desired. It is therefore possible to measure the exact duration of a phenomenon. Not to be confused with the chronometer (or COSC – Official Swiss Certified Chronometer, which is an official Swiss certificate proving the preciseness of the movement in multiple position, under various pressures and temperatures). Chronographs are used for sports activities or as an accessory showing a sporty lifestyle. At Salvatore Ferragamo Timepieces, a chronograph can be either quartz or automatic.Three examples:ETA 251.471 on the F-80 quartz Chronograph, VALJOUX 7750 on the Salvatore Automatic Chronograph and ETA 251.471 on the Palagio quartz Chronograph.

GMT (GREENWICH MEAN TIME – 2 TIMEZONES): Mean time at the meridian of the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, which is the prime meridian of the world. GMT is a civil time beginning at midnight. At Salvatore Ferragamo Timepieces there is one watch which is GMT (or 2 time-zones): the F-80 chronograph automatic GMT. To read the time in the second time zone, follow the blue hand and read the 24 hours scale: the white part of the scale indicates the day-time, the black part between 18 and 6 shows the night.

WATER RESISTANCE
A water-resistant case is a watch-case whose joints are made to prevent moisture from entering. All Salvatore Ferragamo watches are water-resistant to either 30 meters,50 meters or 100 meters.
