Ernest Borel 160th Anniversary Jules Borel Collection Limited Edition

To mark its 160th anniversary, Swiss watchmaker Ernest Borel has unveiled a collection of 10 automatic movement watches for both men and women.

Among its new creations, Ernest Borel has designed a new and essential timepiece in homage to the founder of the house, a true work of watchmaking art released in a limited edition, with 888 pieces available worldwide.

Supplied in a leather and wood presentation case, this prestigious model epitomises the very essence of a craft know-how that has been recognised since 1856. It meets every criterion of perfection established by Jules Borel, the creator of superlative watches, a subtle balance between tradition and contemporary design, yet exuding a true timelessness.

Enhanced by the rose gold that surrounds the 12 diamonds on its dial and embellishes the hands and bezel, this piece of rare beauty features a Swiss automatic movement with complication enclosing the hour, minute, second, date, day and power reserve functions. Water-resistant to 50 metres, this commemorative watch comes with a strap in brown alligator and folding clasp.

Ernest Borel Duke Collection

With its new Duke collection of men’s watches, Swiss watchmaker Ernest Borel offers an artistic series whose supreme sophistication is powerfully expressed by the simplicity of its design.

Duke is an exquisite marriage of opposites and a distillation of the watchmaking expertise of Ernest Borel. It unites simplicity and complexity to pay tribute to the history of the Jura watchmaking brand, nestled at the confluence of tradition and modernity. The Duke collection, designed for lovers of fine watchmaking, is the ultimate expression of mechanical complexity showcased from its finest angle.

A pure and elegant, remarkably understated design dialogues with the supreme sophistication of a mechanical movement boasting several complications orchestrated by a master watchmaker: day, date, month and moon phases. The classically shaped case is an ode to Ernest Borel’s 159 years of expertise, and houses an automatic mechanical movement with complications that brings this timepiece to life.

The visually striking Duke collection combines the technical prowess of its movement with the aesthetic purity of its lines. The case, available with a steel or rose-gold-plated finish, provides the most superb setting.

Ernest Borel Danaus Quartz Series

19th Century French painter Claude Monet’s masterpiece, “Water Lilies,” brings to the world the infinite imagination and also provides Borel’s designers a romantic inspiration. For the brand-new dial in 2014’s Danaus Series, the elegant water lily (Nymphaea helvola) quietly blooms on the surface of mother of pearl, where the unique colorful glow shining with the flower creates a dreamy and elegant visual art with great admiration.

Ernest Borel boldly uses the fragile mother of pearl as dial material; due to its property of easily wear, when making such fine works on small and crispy mother of pearl, every step of carving and painting requires watchmakers’ delicate and precise craftsmanship. The unique colorful glow on each petal has embodied the aura of the ocean and the sun, shining the fresh and elegant water lily. The simple design of big three hands gives the watch a classic and agile look and a clear view of the charming flower.

The black mother of pearl surface with rose gold bezel is decorated with dark purple leather straps, bringing out the brand’s superior character of luxury and elegance; the white mother of pearl with silver stainless bracelets shines with dreamy glow and looks gentle and lovely.

Ernest Borel Cocktail Collection (Model: LGR8080-28291WH)

The Cocktail Collection is an excellent example of an Ernest Borel watch series which already received patents for its unique appearance and structure in the 1940s. The inspiration for this particular collection comes from European ornamental design, with the central plate being composed of several overlapping pentacles, to create a very special visual effect and romantic style.

In 2013 Ernest Borel brings historical moments to the present through the classic Cocktail Collection. The plate has a unique three-dimensional design and polygonal cut diamond holder. The dial is set with 6 natural diamonds and built with molded indexes.

The attention to these details makes this watch a kaleidoscope of color and pattern, showing its colorful and gorgeous, pure and elegant essence. This new generation of Cocktail Collection, based upon the original plate design, has beautiful colors and multiple model choices and is especially stylish and elegant.

Georges Braque was a famous French artist in the early 20th century and one of the initiators of the cubist art movement, which had a profound influence on the life style and European culture.

Inspired by the ideas and essence of this well-known artist, Ernest Borel designer cleverly applies the concept of “cubism” to the Braque Collection.

Ernest Borel Braque Chronometer

As early as the 1940s, Ernest Borel remarkably received chronometer certificates for a large amount of watches, soon becoming the second largest manufacturer of chronometers. Between 1945 and 1958, 4,172 timepieces obtained the “bulletin de marche” issued by the Swiss offices for the official verification of watch timing. A testament to this continuity, Ernest Borel was rewarded by becoming one of the top brands to receive COSC certification in 2009.

Today, the Officially Certified Braque Chronometer inherits the essence of the Braque Collection. In addition, each timepiece is specifically recognized via the official seal of the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC), thus being the perfect combination of precision and art.

The new Ernest Borel collection is inspired by the cubist art movement and its initiator, the artist Georges Braque. This watch is proposed with a COSC Day-date self winding movement to pair with its design. The warm radiance of light suffusing the two tones case, hour-markers and bracelet instills this timepiece with a subtle blend of classicism and creativity. The guilloche motif in the dial centre creates a sense of space and depth, while the diamond hour-markers show a more impressionist vision. A cleverly executed interpretation of the geometry of shapes for a timepiece that is anything but ordinary. This model comes in 2 execution, stainless steel and two tones.

Each Braque Chronometer is accompanied by an individual certificate, indicating the serial number of the watch and attesting the COSC certification.

Ernest Borel Artist Collection – Skeleton Automatic Mechanical Watch

The Skeleton automatic mechanical watch is a typical example combining the Swiss exquisite technique and Ernest Borel’s romance philosophy. It is also a wonderful production of the brand.

You will also see clearly each of the rubies that are bearing the rotating axes, and even the lubricant inside the watch. Ernest Borel’s skeleton automatic mechanical watch defines the inner meaning of movement and time visually, and hence revokes people that time is precious. Mechanical watch does not only represent a visual art, but also enables interaction of minds and communication of emotions.

Carving movement means carving as much as possible the bridges and other components of the movement without spoiling their functions and leaving only its skeleton. Carving movement requires a calm mind and exquisite technique. Any lapse will cause the previous hard work go down the drain. So each product is embodied with the painstaking efforts of the watchmakers. It is as if they are tending a new born baby scrupulously with all their concentration. Upon completion of carving, the watchmakers will polish the skeleton, and further engrave it with decorative strips. Polish and engraving procedures require real technical skills, craftsmanship and a great deal of time. The work is often accomplished with the help of a magnifier.

Ernest Borel’s skeleton watch employs a transparent dial scale. The perspective effect will not influence the accurate reading of time. The use of sapphire crystal enables you to appreciate the movement work from upside and downside. The perfect match of the steel 20 micron gilded case with the gold movement is the ingenious intelligence and magical techniques of the watchmakers.

Global limited collection – 1500 watches, each bearing a unique serial number.
