DuBois et fils Celebrates the Successful Fifth Anniversary of Crowd-funding the Oldest Watch Factory in Switzerland

In 2012, the oldest Swiss watch factory, DuBois et fils SA, entered a completely new era by way of crowdfunding. The company raised 1.5 million Swiss francs and gained nearly 600 new shareholders.

Celebrating 5th anniversary of the crowd-funding project that helped the brand to achieve an active role again in Swiss traditional watch making, DuBois et fils is once again offering 99 watch lovers the opportunity to participate in the oldest Swiss watchmaking company.

In addition to participation in the watch factory, the 99 new shareholders will receive a voucher for the purchase of a watch from DuBois et fils with a 20 percent discount. To coincide with the anniversary there is also a care package for the watch: a five-year warranty as well as a free revision after the guarantee has expired. For ten years watch owners need only to enjoy the DuBois et fils watch.

Once a year, DBF shareholders are invited to the Annual General Meeting; the affinity shared by the family of shareholders is great. If you want to be one of them, you can also secure one of the 99 packages on the DuBois et fils website.

The DBF003-07 is waterproof up to 5 ATM and has an automatic basic calibre 2892-A2 from the Swiss mechanism manufacturer ETA SA. In addition to the intricate decorative finish, the distinctively ornamented and nickel-plated DuBois rotor shows the special attention given to detail by the oldest Swiss watch factory.

The large date and the small black coloured seconds counter are realised with the module DD14000 from the special workshop of Dubois-Dépraz. This increases the number of jewels for the entire mechanism to 26 rubies.

A brown leather strap with a rubber inlay rounds off the refined appearance of the DBF003-07. The surface of the round, multi-piece case (41.5 mm) is comprised of matt brushed stainless steel 316L, which creates a nice contrast to the highly polished notched bezel.

Beneath the scratch-proof, double-sided anti-reflective-coated sapphire glass is a black/blue and orange dial with guilloche hour circle. The tri-compax layout contains a small seconds counter as well as a 12-hour and 30-minute chronograph function at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock.

DuBois et fils DBF003

Swiss watch brand DuBois et fils presents DBF003, its latest watch collection with a purist design.

The form of the 3-hand self-winding watch subtly reminds one of the DBF001, yet with its refined purist design it is convincing as its own model with a clear statement. By concentrating on the essential – no calendar, no intricacies, only a dial, two hands and a small seconds counter – a perfect unity is created, which allows the true greatness of the watch model that is limited to 99 editions to be seen.

The DBF003 collection includes two ladies’ and 3 men’s models in various designs and with different case diameters (36 mm and 40 mm).

The round multi-part case made from stainless steel 316L is waterproof up to 5 ATM and comprised of different elements with polished and matte surfaces. The scratch-proof, double side anti-reflective coated sapphire crystal base offers a glimpse of the calibre DBF-CAL-100, the first in-house mechanism in the history of the Swiss heritage brand.

DuBois et fils DBF003 automatic watch

The new DBF-CAL-100 automatic movement is based on a Revue Thommen Caliber. The original parts were partially replaced; revised, ennobled and minor technical improvements were carried out on the mechanism.

With greatly skilled workmanship, an in-house mechanism has been created that is no longer comparable to its predecessor. The interplay of the prevailing anthracite colour with the ennobled parts gives the mechanism its distinctive character. The DBF-CAL-100 automatic movement offers a power reserve of 42 hours.

Defining style and design elements of the successful DBF001 line, such as the guilloche dial, were thereby partially reinterpreted and transferred to the DBF003. Appliqued Arabic numerals perfectly contrast the guilloche or lacquered dial in silver, black, white or dark blue.

Handmade wristbands made from the finest calf leather or satin in various colours and a 9-link band made from high-quality stainless steel 316L with a pressure snap flip-lock round off the stylish appearance of the DBF003.

DuBois et fils Concept 1 Chronograph and Big Date (DBF001)

DuBois et fils, the oldest watch factory in Switzerland  starts a new era with a new collection, in which watch lovers can participate as co-owners of the manufactory.

The concept 1 is the first watch of the new collection – CEO and owner Thomas Steinemann presents the timepiece in the tradition of the company: chronograph, big date, high quality guilloches and many details characterize the watch.

Only at second glance you will see the many details of the automatic watch – the guilloche of the bezel is adapted and continued by the dial.

All components are manufactured with high quality by the best suppliers. All digits of the dial are appliqués – the most expensive way of producing the face of a watch.

The timepiece will be equipped with the automatic caliber 2892-A2 of the Swiss ETA SA. The movement is supplemented by the Dubois Dépraz module 4500, offering a two-disc large date and the chronograph mechanism with measurements up to 12 hours.

The case with a diameter of 42.5 mm (without crown) is water resistant up to 5 ATM and made of high quality stainless steel 316L. Anyone who has already been involved in the crowd funding campaign as co-owner of DuBois et fils, can be pleased: they will be the first to be able to buy the watches – each of them limited to 99 pieces – at a high discount.

A scratch-resistant sapphire crystal protects the watch dial, equipped with Superluminova for the hour markers as well as the hands for the normal time display.

Next year, the watch will be available with a leather or rubber strap. Interested parties can still participate in the crowd funding project to become a part of the company. With various packages at prices from 500 to 10,000 francs, the watch lovers can acquire shares – and will be able not only to buy the watches at a special price but also to special quantities.

Philippe DuBois & Fils SA is the oldest watch factory in Switzerland. Since 1785 watches have been sold under that name.
