CLAUDE MEYLAN LAC MOTORITIES

In the LAC MOTORITIES collection, CLAUDE MEYLAN revisits the art of mechanical watch making by combining the world of vintage car racing.

Introduced in 2019, the LAC MOTORITIES watch comes in a 42mm diameter stainless steel case. These watches boast specially created cut-out dials offering three-dimensional views inspired from the vintage car racing.

CLAUDE MEYLAN LAC MOTORITIES

Next to the off-centered dial that provides the view of smallest hand-wound openwork movement available to date, you can discover a superposition of cut out and colored sculptures which illustrate the particular moments of historical races.

CLAUDE MEYLAN LAC MOTORITIES

The specific construction of these elements allows a staging on both sides of the watch. In black, grey and off-white effects, the sculptures feature several design elements imported from the Haute Joaillerie savoir-faire.

CLAUDE MEYLAN LAC MOTORITIES

Beating inside this watch is a skeletonised, finely finished and engraved version of the ETA 2512 manual-wound movement. It provides a power reserve of 38 hours when fully wound. Bearing 17 jewels and beating at 21,600 A /h, the Caliber ETA 2512 is a small sized mechanical movement measuring 17.2mm diameter.

CLAUDE MEYLAN LAC MOTORITIES

Topped with a sapphire crystal front glass, the timepiece has a water resistance up to 30 meters. Presently this timepiece is available in three references: 6049-M1, 6049-M2 and 6049-M3.

CLAUDE MEYLAN TORTUE ‘LADY LA POINTE DE SABLE’

The inspiring story of this exceptional ladies watch began when Philippe Narbel – the founder and CEO of MANUFACTOR – discovered a beautiful Tortue Lady movement at a watch fair in London. He then approached Philippe Belais, the owner and CEO of CLAUDE MEYLAN for creating a watch based on this movement.

Both the companies are based in L’Abbaye, a village of the Vallée de Joux. MANUFACTOR has been is specialized in beveling, skeletonization and hand-engraving and CLAUDE MEYLAN is luxury watch maker specialized in mechanical skeleton watches.

To design this watch, the team has drawn inspiration from the natural beauty of L’Abbaye, specially the lake that flows through this region in the famous Vallée de Joux.

CLAUDE MEYLAN TORTUE LADY LA POINTE DE SABLE ladies mechanical automatic watch

The Tortue Lady La Pointe De Sable watch features a semi-open dial providing the stunning views of art-work on the dial and the mechanical self-winding movement ticking inside. Its superbly engraved oscillating weight is visible at the lower dial side. An arch from the first abbey dating to 1126 – hence the name – still survives, and that little detail is what gave rise to the engraving on the oscillating mass. This particular sculpture is a strong link to L’Abbaye itself, and to the CLAUDE MEYLAN workshop situated in the town.

CLAUDE MEYLAN TORTUE LADY LA POINTE DE SABLE ladies mechanical automatic watch

Like a window onto the lake, the dial and the bridge at 3 o’clock merge into a single work, an engraving that is made entirely by hand and combines vigor and nuance to suggest the breeze rippling the water’s surface, the movement of the boat, and Nature’s shimmying vegetation. This work gives a unique and personal perspective on the lake.

This unique timepiece takes its name from the water’s edge at a part of the lake known as the sandy point, or “La pointe de sable.”

CLAUDE MEYLAN TORTUE LADY LA POINTE DE SABLE ladies mechanical automatic watch caseback view

CLAUDE MEYLAN developed a deeply feminine caliber for the TORTUE LADY in response to the expectations of the company’s female clients. The company has built an entirely new automatic movement based on the sturdy ETA 267. The dial has been moved up to the 12 o’clock position, while the oscillating mass, with its own animation, serves as a counterweight at 6 o’clock. A gentle and mellifluous curve in the design running from 11 o’clock to 4 o’clock reveals the escapement and the balance wheel, while the bridge at 3 o’clock is integrated into the decorations.

CLAUDE MEYLAN LAC SKULLS

This mechanical watch collection from Claude Meylan celebrates Mexican culture by staging «calaveras».

CLAUDE MEYLAN LAC SKULLS

In Mexico, «El dia de los muertos» was established in the 1920s by the nationalist governments that emerged from the 1910 revolution. A blend of Aztec tradition and All Saints’ Day, a Christian holiday brought by the Spanish conquistadors, the Day of the Dead is strongly symbolized by these «Calaveras».

CLAUDE MEYLAN LAC SKULLS

The LAC SKULLS timepieces feature 42mm diameter stainless steel cases. The fine cuts of the skulls are colored and are superimposed on a manual-wound ETA 6497 movement, which is entirely skeletonized and decorated.

CLAUDE MEYLAN LAC SKULLS

The skulls on the dial side reflect a «Rebel attitude» which, mixed with the festive colors invite us to a joyful and playful celebration.

CLAUDE MEYLAN LAC SKULLS

The cases and bezels match and put forward the force of the colors or the depth of the black. The white skeleton hands dress up the whole while the black bracelet in natural rubber or printed natural leather encircles the wrist.

CLAUDE MEYLAN MANGA’CH

First inspiration of this watch is the art of the Manga, a particular Japanese comic style that goes back to the 1860s. Second inspiration comes from the Switzerland’s own Heidi and Peter, the leading characters of children’s fiction published in 1881 by Swiss author Johanna Spyri.

The mixture of cultures, the richness of exchanges, the alchemy of a subtle combination of lifestyles, tastes and points of view that inspired independent luxury Swiss watch brand CLAUDE MEYLAN. In this new watch collection, CLAUDE MEYLAN associates two currents of the same era in a modern and humorous interpretation of a universal romance.

By associating cultures and know-how, CLAUDE MEYLAN revisits the spirit of erotic watches. First and next to the open work of the decorated mechanical movement, a superposition of cut and painted dials represent the subjects of our MANGA’CH adventure. Drawings are lively and powerful, the rendering is subtle and suggestive.

Once the piece is on hand, we instinctively turn it over to discover a scene that transports us to a non-feigned eroticism. The drawing is affixed on three different levels and its three-dimensionality encourages us to enjoy and dream. Represented in black and white, faithful to the Manga signature, the strength of the scene awakens our senses and our imagination.

CLAUDE MEYLAN La Poya Collection

With this watch series, CLAUDE MEYLAN celebrates the traditional Swiss festival called Poya.

The “La Poya” festival was originated in the region of Fribourg and describes the long procession of cows and wagons loaded with the necessary equipment to collect the milk, make cream and cheese on the heights. The cows are decorated with flowers and bells with belts embroidered with edelweiss and the name of each herd owner. The armailli (Shepherd of the Fribourg region, Switzerland) wearing the traditional clothes, guides the procession. The facades of alpine chalets have friezes painted or carved in wood, representing the joyous rise of processions.

The new watch collection from CLAUDE MEYLAN pays tribute to the processions of the Poya with fine mechanical timepieces featuring the scenes chiseled in ruthenium black steel echoing the art of traditional alpine carving. The rhodium movement creates the contrast to visually detach the figures while seeming to animate them by the beating of its escapement.

LAC Poya
CLAUDE MEYLAN combines its expertise with the traditional cuts of POYA arts to superimpose them to the decorations of the openwork movement.  At 3 O’clock of the work, the wheels of the hours and minutes drive the needles in an infinite ballet.

The expert hands have shaped the decorations and transparencies that, in a soft and powerful luminescence, play with the elegance of the contrasts. Each bridge is hollowed out, entirely decorated and in a harmony of particular shapes, they provide an intriguing transparency and light sublimated by the character of the suspended cutouts.

LAC Poya in Movement
CLAUDE MEYLAN is inspired by the passing of time and creates “Poya in movement”. Decorated and cut in traditional Poya art, the hour dials present a new sculpture of time.

The perpetual rotation of the dial allows you to discover, as the hours go by, all the subtleties, the magic and the secrets of the beautiful fully skeletonized mechanics combined with the Poya cut outs. The Poya pointer turns into a hand and tells the hour of the moment. The dial becomes the hour and depicts a ballet governed by the mechanics of the movement.

CLAUDE MEYLAN

In Vallée de Joux, the cradle of the luxury watchmaking, in the Jura Mountains from the Canton of Vaud, the company MONTRES CLAUDE MEYLAN S.A. carries on tradition and gives birth to wonderful timekeepers thanks to leading-edge techniques and innovation.

It is impossible not to fall in love with this Valley and its marvellous landscapes ; a great quietness reigns in its fir forest Risoud and on highest point Mont-Tendre, same quietness as in the Claude Meylan workshop, on the ground floor of the Berneys’family house. They love their Valley de Joux, worldwide known for its quality of life as well as for its famous watchmaking products manufactured in many factories around the Lake of Joux.

In this idyllic environment, Carol Voutaz manages her small team enthusiastically under the critical but kindly helpful gaze of her grandfather, Henri Berney, the very watchmaker who founded the company in 1972.

Three generations followed on but the passion for watchmaking has remained entire. During her childhood, Carol was cradled by the ticktock sound and very naturally she got used to taking part in everyday matters inherent to the company management. This young woman knows what she wants, and, even if she listens to her grandfather’s advice, she shows initiative and does not hesitate to give a personal touch in order to make her mark. For example, it was her will to change the company name in 2006: Antigone became MONTRES CLAUDE MEYLAN S.A.

In fact, two different brand names are used : The brand « CLAUDE MEYLAN », which was bought up to his founder, is reserved to the most valuable time pieces of the collection : self winding watches in white, yellow or rose gold or in stainless steel – Stainless steel chronographs are presently much appreciated by sportsmen – The brand « CHANDLER» is marked on the novelty watches, most with quartz movements.

History of Claude Meylan

In Mid-18th century Samuel Olivier Meylan from the Chenit District and Abraham Samuel Meylan from L’Orient had been initiated into the mystery of this art in Rolle and Fleurier. Once they were back home, both began to profit from their acquired knowledge: For example Samuel-Olivier Meylan manufactured the first pocket watch fitted with a disc-musical mechanism.

At the beginning of the 19th century, Philippe-Samuel Meylan, a watchmaker of genius, born in Le Brassus, founded with an associate, Isaac Piguet, a company in Geneva, which became one of the biggest companies in the city. There he was the first to use spring chimes, rather than bells, in his musical repeater watches playing a little melody every hour. In 1890, Manufacture Charles-Henri Meylan & Cie was founded and got an award in 1894 from Geneva Observatory for best adjustments.

In the Watchmaking School in Le Sentier, Emile Meylan (1898-1971), Claude Meylan’s grandfather, learned his trade he exercised all his life passionately. Born in 1957 and introduced to watchmaking from his earliest years by this grandfather, Claude Meylan obtained his certificate, the « CFC d’Horloger-rhabilleur » in 1977 and graduated by achieving an entirely hand made master watch.

For eleven years he could then develop his know-how and his natural taste for aesthetic design in two famous high-class watchmaking factories from Vallée de Joux. In 1988 he founded his own company « CLAUDE MEYLAN DIFFUSION S.A. ».

At the same time, Henri Berney, founding father of « Berney-Blondeau S.A. » since the seventy-years, was producing wristwatches, pendant and ring watches under the trade name « Berney ». In 1990 he bought up the name “ANTIGONE”, created in 1950 in Geneva and, in 1998, the brand “CHANDLER” from Jeanbourquin S.A. in La Chaux de-Fonds. Two years before, in 1996, he had bought the remaining Claude Meylan watch stocks.

When the time of retirement had come, Henri Berney sold his company Berney-Blondeau in the year 2000. But his daughter, Eveline Voutaz carried on under the firm name « Antigone S.A. » first with the brand « Chandler » she had kept for the fancy ladies’ watches and then, with the brand « Claude Meylan » for men’s watches, after buying this brand name in 2002. By doing so, the company had got the sole rights for marketing and distribution under the trade name « Claude Meylan ».

In 2004, Eveline was appointed District Prefect for Vallée de Joux. Her daughter Carol succeeded her at the company management, supported by her experienced grandfather, whom she often still asks for professional advice.

In February 2006, « Antigone » became « MONTRES CLAUDE MEYLAN S.A. »

Well, more than 200 years after the beginnings of Watchmaking in Vallée de Joux, the collaborators of the company « Montres Claude Meylan S.A. » maintain proudly the watchmaking know-how inherited from their ancestors, Meylans and others, and are very pleased to put their skill at the disposal of their esteemed customers.

CLAUDE MEYLAN TORTUE POP & PEARL

CLAUDE MEYLAN takes inspiration from Fashion and Grace to introduce TORTUE in strong and meaningful harmonies. TORTUE POP & PEARL associates colors with new sculptures of Time. The all new creation of the 7.75CM17 caliber demonstrates innovation right across the board. The dial is positioned at 12 O’clock to make space and allow the moving escapement to evolve above the gear train. At 3 O’clock, the decorating bridge enhances the dial decoration and effects. Therefore, these positions give way to the frontal moving rotor at 6 O’clock.

The rotor mirrors the dial and is fitted with a dedicated cover, decorated or set with precious stones. Rotating freely and in harmony with your wrist movements, the rotor provides a unique animation to TORTUE POP & PEARL. Each and every part is fully decorated to offer a very specific harmony. They contribute to create transparency enhanced by precious and colorful animations.
