Bulova Accutron Calibrator – The World’s First and Only Watch with External Fine Adjustment System (EFAS)

At BaselWorld 2012 Watch and Jewellery Show, Bulova Corporation announced a revolutionary advance in timekeeping accuracy, introducing the Bulova Accutron Calibrator, featuring the world’s first and only External Fine Adjustment System (EFAS). Setting a new standard in individualized timekeeping, this unprecedented development lets watch enthusiasts control the accuracy of their mechanical watches, maintaining 99.99% accuracy simply and without need for a technician.

With the introduction of the Bulova Accutron Calibrator with External Fine Adjustment System, watch enthusiasts, for the first time, have the ability to individualize the accuracy of a mechanical watch. Owners of fine mechanical timepieces know that maintaining peak performance can mean periodic visits to a jeweler for fine tuning.

The Calibrator, however, permits wearers to achieve and maintain a personalized level of accuracy without the assistance of a professional. With the Swiss-made Bulova Accutron Calibrator, the exclusive and proprietary external fine adjustment system lets users fine tune their watches when needed, maintaining extraordinary accuracy based on their individual circumstances.

The dial of the Calibrator includes a unique, easy-to-read adjustment gauge, located at the nine o’clock position that allows owners to visually track each individual modification as they adjust for timing accuracy. The gauge is an arched track with a minus symbol at the top of the arch representing a slower speed, and a plus symbol at the bottom representing a faster speed. There are three notches going up and down, each representing an adjustment of five seconds per day.

The fine tuning is facilitated by an external key that fits into a port on the side of the timepiece, letting the user adjust the length of the hairspring to optimize accuracy on an individual basis, with each adjustment visible on the regulator gauge. Providing 99.99% accuracy during intensive testing and validation by an independent laboratory in Switzerland, the Calibrator extends the Bulova Accutron brand’s reputation for technological innovation and extraordinary precision.

With the company’s commitment to design, the Bulova Accutron Calibrator is simply and beautifully crafted, expressing the fine intricacy and easy operation of the technology.

The Bulova Accutron Calibrator with External Fine Adjustment System will be available in three initial styles, slated to be available globally in September 2012 with a suggested price range in U.S. dollars from $1,595 to $1,695.

Bulova Accutron Curaçao Collection

With the Curaçao, BULOVA ACCUTRON introduces a collection of diving instruments with water-resistant to 300 metres.

Able to withstand considerable pressure of up to 30 bar, the case conveys a sophisticated aesthetic and houses, depending on the version, either a Sellita SW200 mechanical self-winding movement, or a Ronda 5030.D quartz chronograph calibre.

In both cases, the graduated unidirectional bezel serves to calculate dive times, while the screw-down case and screw-lock crown ensure that both movements provide optimal performance to impressive depths.

The mechanical versions feature a nod to the underwater world in the shape of a date framed by a semi-circle resembling a porthole riveted to the dial. The quartz versions ensure high-precision displays that are readable even at great depths thanks to the luminescent counter hands.

While perfectly suited to the aquatic milieu, the Curaçao collection exercises an undeniable visual appeal. Its steel case comes in black PVD or rose gold treated versions, framing a dial with faceted hour-markers and open-worked hands. It is equipped with a large-link steel bracelet or a rubber strap with tone-on-tone motifs echoing the dial pattern.

Bulova Accutron Sir Richard Branson Limited Edition Watch

Bulova Corporation announced the BULOVA ACCUTRON Sir Richard Branson Limited Edition Watch, celebrating a partnership that highlights its commitment to innovation on a global level. The new Swiss-made watch was developed in collaboration with global innovator and entrepreneur, Sir Richard Branson, the official brand ambassador for Bulova’s premier brand, BULOVA ACCUTRON. A prototype of the new watch was unveiled in New York coinciding with a major meeting of BULOVA ACCUTRON customers from around the globe.

Bulova Corporation announced the appointment of Branson, Founder of Virgin Group, as the brand ambassador for BULOVA ACCUTRON in March 2011, noting that Branson exemplifies the values and dedication that have guided Bulova Corporation from the beginning.

Branson has donated the proceeds from his work as BULOVA ACCUTRON brand ambassador to Virgin Unite, Virgin Group’s non-profit foundation, created by Branson in 2004 to tackle the world’s social and environmental problems, using business as a force for good. Bulova Corporation will donate a portion of the proceeds from the sales of the BULOVA ACCUTRON Sir Richard Branson Limited Edition watch to Virgin Unite as well.

Only 500 of the new BULOVA ACCUTRON Sir Richard Branson Limited Edition Watches will be made available. Each watch will be numbered on the caseback and on the accompanying Certificate of Authenticity to show its position within the run of 500, after which the molds will be destroyed forever. The Swiss-made watch has been developed in collaboration with Branson and carries his signature endorsement etched on the caseback.

The self-winding ETA 2893 movement is certified by the Contrôle officiel suisse des chronomètres (COSC) as meeting the highest standards of timekeeping. This new creation also includes a 24-hour GMT second time zone reading on the dial.

Crafted of titanium, with black alligator strap, the watch includes sapphire crystals over both the dial and the open exhibition caseback, to permit a first-hand view of the classic, 21-jewel self-winding mechanical movement in action. On the case, two separate crowns, at 2 o’clock and 4 o’clock, control the standard and GMT settings. Measuring 46mm, the watch provides water resistance to 100 meters.

The dial, in black, is engraved with a stylized representation of the globe, with latitude and longitude lines included. The hands are in anodized aluminum, with the standard hour, minute and second hands in blue, and the GMT hand in red, with a crescent-shaped tip. The perimeter of the watch dial includes the names of 24 destinations, each corresponding to one of the world’s 24 time zones. By adjusting the city ring to the GMT hand, wearers can instantly see the time in the selected city. Also included is a date window at 4 o’clock.

The watch will be shipped in a specially crafted limited edition case, and is scheduled for release in the fall of 2012 at a projected retail price of U.S. $3,500.

Bulova Accutron Conqueror Limited Edition

At BaselWorld 2011, Bulova Corporation celebrated its legacy in innovation with the release of the Limited Edition Bulova Accutron Conqueror wristwatch. The watch is inspired by the famous Lone Eagle timepiece that Bulova awarded to Colonel Charles A. Lindbergh in 1927, when he became the first person to complete a solo non-stop flight across the Atlantic Ocean. The Bulova Accutron Conqueror recognizes the company’s commitment to innovation not only in aviation – from air travel to space exploration – but also within the world of timekeeping.

For over 135 years, Bulova has stood proudly in the vanguard of American innovation. A pioneering force in the industry since opening a small store in Lower Manhattan in 1875, Joseph Bulova transformed how watches were worn and how time was perceived. An independent thinker alert to the era’s risk-taking ethos, Bulova laid the foundation for the company to present one innovation after another, introducing the first full lines of men’s and ladies’ wristwatches, the first clock radio and the first electric clocks, while establishing the first plant dedicated to the mass production of watch components.

Unsurprisingly, many adventurers and explorers, including Charles A. Lindbergh, used and endorsed Bulova watches. This commitment to innovation continued with the 1960 introduction of Accutron, the world’s first fully electronic watch, and endures today with such breakthroughs as Bulova Precisionist, the world’s most accurate watch with a continuously sweeping second hand.

This pioneering spirit has also contributed to Bulova’s long-term commitment to technological progress in aviation. Bulova continued by building critical instruments and clocks for planes during World War II. Later, Bulova outfitted over forty NASA satellites with various timing instruments – most famously, contributing its Accutron technology to the first Moon landing on July 20, 1969.

The launch of the Conqueror aligns with the introduction of Bulova Accutron’s new brand ambassador, Sir Richard Branson, an entrepreneur in air travel and space tourism, and Founder of Virgin Group. While Charles Lindbergh accomplished one of the first great advances in the Golden Age of Aviation, Branson’s present-day quest to commercialize space aviation has transformed him into a similar figure for our era. He was knighted for his commitment to innovation, and he embodies the pioneering spirit of the Bulova Accutron Conqueror. Available in two hundred sequentially numbered collectible pieces, the Bulova Accutron Conqueror honors this dedication to ingenuity and adventure.

The Bulova Accutron Conqueror is certified by the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres (COSC), as meeting the highest standards of contemporary timekeeping. Featuring a Dubois-Depraz 31340 53-jewel automatic mechanical movement, this distinguished Swiss-made chronometer incorporates a precision chronograph with flyback function for immediate reset, as well as a 24-hour GMT indicator to allow simultaneous independent dual time-zone readings.

The COSC certification number is engraved on each movement. Crafted of solid stainless steel, with a smoothly curved tonneau case, engraved to capture the essence of the 1927 original, the Bulova Accutron Conqueror includes green luminous numerals and hands, as well as a Mississippi alligator strap.

This limited edition timepiece is individually numbered on its caseback and includes a certificate of authenticity to attest to its position in a controlled production run of 200 pieces, after which the molds will be destroyed forever. Sold globally, the Bulova Accutron Conqueror retails at US$4,900.

Bulova Accutron Gemini Valjoux Collection

Named after NASA’s pioneering space programme that led to the triumph of the Apollo missions, the Gemini collection by Bulova Accutron expresses the visionary spirit of the 1960s. At a time when the cooperation between Bulova and the American space agency was in full swing, the Gemini Programme incorporated a Bulova Accutron clock with a 24-hour display into the instrument panels aboard the modules taking part in eight consecutive missions.

By providing astronauts with a fundamental point of reference after take-off, Bulova Accutron contributed to the success of the Gemini Programme which achieved unprecedented breakthroughs for the U.S.A in the space race, including taking humankind to the moon.

From the first satellites to the lunar seismometer from Apollo 11 that was deployed in the Sea of Tranquility, along with clocks on space module instrument panels, Bulova Accutron pays tribute to its rich past with the Gemini collection.

Admirably echoing these epic endeavours, the Gemini models combine classic lines with Swiss watchmaking expertise.
