AVI-8 P-51 Mustang Tuskegee Airmen Chronograph Limited Edition

In association with Tuskegee Airmen Inc. (TAI), AVI-8 has designed a timepiece limited to just 300 pieces that pays tribute to the distinguished men and women who were part of the US Army Air Corps’ landmark program to train African Americans to fly and maintain combat aircraft in WWII.

2022 marks the 80th anniversary of the activation of the famed 99th Pursuit Squadron which would become famous for being part of a collective of African American aviators known as the Tuskegee Airmen and Red Tails.

The 332nd Fighter Group flew P-51 Mustangs to escort the heavy bombers of the 15th Air Force during raids deep into enemy territory. The tails, noses and rudders of their planes were painted red for identification purposes, earning them the enduring nickname “Red Tails.”

AVI-8 has decided to support the work of the Tuskegee Airmen Inc. (TAI) as they focus on honoring the accomplishments and perpetuating the history of African Americans who participated in air crew, ground crew and operations support training in the Army Air Corps during WWII.

Each watch sold will contribute to the incredible work of the Tuskegee Airmen, including but not limited to their educational programs that help foster excitement and introduce young people across the nation to the world of aviation and science.

In commemorating the Tuskegee Airmen, AVI-8 has redesigned the P-51 Mustang Meca-Quartz Chronograph to highlight and pay tribute to their skillful flying of the P-51 Mustang in the many theatres of European air conflict during WWII.

Crafted from solid stainless steel, a fluidly streamlined 43mm case showcases a custom-built crown guard, with micro-detailing inspired by the P-51 Mustang’s engine exhaust. Completing the case is a bezel with an etched tachymeter scale topped by a scratch resistant sapphire lens with anti-reflective coating.

A clear and legible dial is perfectly designed with aviation elements drawn from the Red Tails’ P-51 Mustangs. The multi-layered dial with bold indexes and Swiss lumed hands is complemented by coloured minute tracks drawn from the nose art on the aircraft. The “Tuskegee Airmen” is stamped at the 1H position as a reminder of their legacy.

Equipped with the reputable VK series Japanese Meca-Quartz movement, the Tuskegee Airmen Chronograph Limited Edition is armed with both the reliability of quartz chronograph timing along with the nostalgic hand feel of automatic movements.

The watch is fitted on a padded leather strap inspired by the seats within the P-51 Mustang. Contrasting colours for the strap and its loops are drawn from the artwork on the Red Tails’ P-51 Mustangs. Each timepiece will be provided with an additional premium grade, genuine leather strap.

Individually numbered and limited to 300 pieces, each timepiece comes packaged in a stunning Tuskegee Airmen inspired red and black nylon-wrapped gift box.

Its suggested retail price is $350 (£285 or €320). The AVI-8 P-51 Mustang Tuskegee Airmen Chronograph is available  to buy from 23rd September at Avi-8.com.

AVI-8 Hawker Hurricane Kent Automatic

AVI-8’s new Hawker Hurricane Kent Automatic watch series is a tribute to the 303 Squadron of the Royal Air Force.

For true military aviation enthusiasts, there are few squadrons as influential as the 303 Squadron. Also known as the 303rd “Tadeusz Kościuszko Warsaw” Fighter Squadron, it was formed in July 1940. Led by Flight Commander John “Kentowski” Kent and equipped with Hawker Hurricanes, the squadron claimed the most victories during the Battle of Britain. The most effective Polish RAF squadron during the Second World War, it was disbanded in December 1946.

To honour their unparalleled achievements, AVI-8 has launched the Hawker Hurricane Kent Automatic with design details drawn from the iconic 303 Squadron.

The Kent Automatic is housed in a traditional pilot’s watch case measuring 43mm in diameter. Finely brushed surfaces provide a utilitarian charm whilst a domed sapphire lens offers a clear view into the dial. Completing the case is a cleanly engraved case back featuring the 303 Squadron emblem.

Impressively balanced, the Kent Automatic’s dial offers a timeless pilot inspired look with Swiss luminous applied indexes and unique details designed to pay tribute to Kent such as his aircraft code stamped at the 6H position and a custom seconds hand counter-balance shaped in the form of his Hawker Hurricane.

Powered by a robust Japanese Miyota 8 series automatic movement, this pilot watch is armed with both reliability and precision. On the wrist, the timepiece wears comfortably courtesy of a premium genuine leather strap with contrast accent stitching.

Each timepiece from the Kent Automatic collection is inspired by locations and stations Kent held commands in over his illustrious career with the RAF.

The watch is available now at AVI-8.co.uk, £235 – £255.

AVI-8 Watches: The Flyboy Royal British Legion Founder’s Chronograph Limited Edition and the Flyboy Royal British Legion Chairman’s Meca-Quartz Limited Edition

After the success of the Royal British Legion release in May 2021, AVI-8 presents two new timepieces, the Flyboy Royal British Legion Founder’s Chronograph Limited Edition and the Flyboy Royal British Legion Chairman’s Meca-Quartz Limited Edition. These wristwatches are produced to support and commemorate RBL in their centennial year.

AVI-8 Flyboy Royal British Legion Founder’s Chronograph

With an outstanding 1,000 units produced for each of the new models, every timepiece sold will help the RBL continue their vital work supporting those who serve and have served in the British Armed Forces and their families.

The two new timepieces have been inspired by the charity’s first Chairman, Sir Thomas Frederick Lister, and the first President, Field Marshall Earl Haig.

AVI-8 Flyboy Royal British Legion Chairman’s Meca Quartz

The Royal British Legion was formed by Lister and Haig in the aftermath of the First World War to fight for the rights of those who had given so much and come back to so little. Today, the charity continues to stand with the Armed Forces community and challenge injustices to ensure all those who have served and sacrificed on our behalf get the fair treatment and recognition they deserve. Every timepiece is presented with an exclusive RBL 2021 dated poppy lapel pin.

AVI-8 Flyboy Royal British Legion Founder’s Chronograph

Offering legibility and a balanced aesthetic, the Founder’s Limited Edition is a true bicompax chronograph fused with vintage elements, such as cathedral style hands and a telemeter on the chapter ring. Completing the dial is a striking red poppy on the chronograph seconds hand as a symbol of Remembrance.

At 40mm in diameter, the case is perfectly sized and proportioned. An “onion” style crown draws from trench watches in the early 20th century and became a quintessential feature later used in the first pilot watches. Topping the crown is a beautiful red two petal poppy encased in epoxy.

The Founder’s edition features a dependable Japanese meca-quartz chronograph movement that blends the best of both worlds – quartz accuracy and the crisp hand feel of a mechanical movement. A vintage inspired supple hand-stitched genuine leather strap ensures a comfortable and snug fit.

£15 from the sale of this product will be paid to Royal British Legion Trading Limited (Company no. 4783730 registered in England and Wales) which gives its taxable profits to The Royal British Legion (Charity no. 219279).

Priced at £225 GBP / $285 USD, the Flyboy Royal British Legion Founder’s Chronograph Limited Edition is available to purchase from October 22, 2021.

AVI-8 Flyboy Royal British Legion Chairman’s Meca Quartz

Blending modern and classical details, the Chairman’s Limited Edition’s vintage aviation inspired dial features syringe-style hands and bold applied Arabic hour indexes with Swiss lume on a textured ma e canvas. The Royal British Legion’s iconic two petal poppy symbol is stamped at the 6 o’clock position as a mark of Remembrance.

Comfortably sized at 40mm, the brushed and polished case features a unidirectional bezel and an elegant double domed hardened mineral glass with anti-reflective coating. An “onion” style crown drawn from trench watches in the early 20th century is expertly completed by a red poppy encased in epoxy.

Powering the Chairman’s edition is a reliable Japanese meca-quartz movement featuring a charming, smooth, sweeping seconds hand typically found in premium modern mechanical movements.

A vintage inspired supple hand-stitched genuine leather strap ensures a comfortable and snug fit. £10 from the sale of this product will be paid to Royal British Legion Trading Limited (Company no. 4783730 registered in England and Wales) which gives its taxable profits to The Royal British Legion (Charity no. 219279).

Available from 11th November, this limited edition timepiece will help raise money for this remarkable British charity. Help for Heroes was founded to provide lifetime support to those wounded in the service of their country.

Every course and activity offered from them aims to empower veterans to look beyond illness and injury, regain their purpose, reach their potential and have a positive impact on society. Dartmouth Brands, the parent company that owns AVI-8, will donate a minimum of £25,000 to Help for Heroes from this collaboration.

With just 300 pieces available of the Flyboy Engineer Automatic Help for Heroes Limited Edition, each watch sold contributes directly to the charity’s vital role in providing emotional, social, and financial support to those with injuries and illnesses attributable to their service in the British Armed Forces. The watch has been designed and produced to support the thousands of military Servicemen and women who live with injuries and illnesses – both mental and physical – looking to a fulfilling and independent life.

This timepiece showcases powerful yet subtle design cues to pay tribute to those who have sacrificed their lives for their nation over the years, and today. At 42mm, this classic pilot’s watch is the ideal size. Forged out of solid stainless steel, the brushed case is topped with a domed sapphire lens for maximum durability. A moulded roundel inspired by the markings on British WW2 fighters sits on the edge of an ergonomically shaped conical crown.

The dial design, flieger hand shape and size ensure perfect legibility. A clear balance of each element on the dial has been complemented by pops of colour inspired by the Help for Heroes logo. The three colours (navy blue, red and light blue) represent the charity’s support for those who served in the British Armed Forces – the Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force.

From the charity’s tri-colour details applied at the 12 o’clock of the dial and stitched onto the extra leather strap, to the tip of the seconds hand with a custom carved roundel, details saluting the work of Help for Heroes have been subtly yet purposefully executed throughout the watch. To underline our collaboration, a textured fumé dial is framed by a raised chapter ring featuring the words “In Support Of Help For Heroes” at the 6 o’clock position.

The Help for Heroes limited edition is equipped with the reliable Japanese NH35 automatic movement.

A carefully articulated solid steel 5-link engineer style bracelet attaches the watch to the wearer’s wrist. For added versatility, the timepiece also comes with an extra hand-stitched genuine leather strap. AVI-8 Flyboy Engineer Automatic

AVI-8 presents Flyboy Engineer Automatic, a classic pilot all-rounder timepiece that draws inspiration from some of the most influential engineers in military aviation history.

The iconic P-51 Mustang, Hawker Hurricane and Supermarine Spitfire military aircrafts were the stalwarts of the Allied air forces throughout WW2. With AVI Flyboy Engineer Automatic timepieces, AVI-8 pays tribute to the unparalleled work of Edgar Schmued (designer of the P-51 Mustang at North American Aviation), R.J. Mitchell (designer of the Spitfire at Supermarine) and Sir Sydney Camm (designer of the Hurricane at Hawker Aircraft).

Perfectly proportioned, each Flyboy Engineer Automatic watch features a 42mm diameter case. The marine grade stainless steel case is topped with a slightly curved scratch resistant sapphire crystal lens for maximum durability and clarity of view. A reliable TMI Seiko built Japanese Automatic NH35 movement powers this watch.

Offering legibility and clarity, the dial design, hand shape and size deliver a perfect balance to the wearer. Allowing each element its own space, the dial matches the proportions impeccably without any fuss or overdone detailing, granting focus on a clear-cut view of the time.

Consistent with AVI-8’s vision to blend modern and vintage, two of the variations are offered with a fumé dial, whilst one is with a matte finishing. The face is marked by generously lumed applied Arabic indexes showing 12 hour time, along with a clearly printed 24 hour time on the inner dial. Flieger style hour and minute hands are balanced by a custom-made seconds hand with a roundel at the tip.

A conical crown is derived from the early days of pilot watches. As the cockpits of aircrafts were extremely cold, gloves were worn and thus needed a larger, more ergonomically shaped crown for easier time setting.

A strong yet supple engineer style bracelet tapering from 22mm to 18mm provides a practical yet appealing finish to the watch.

The carefully articulated 5-link solid stainless steel bracelet works with the straightforward look and feel of the watch head, whilst paying tribute to traditional field watch designs.

AVI-8 Flyboy Lafayette Chronograph (AV-4076)

AVI-8 presents Flyboy Lafayette Chronograph, a special edition quartz chronograph as a tribute to the courageous and patriotic warriors of Lafayette Escadrille, the unit of American volunteer fighter pilots who served under French command in 1916, during World War I.

The name of the unit pays tribute to Marquis de Lafayette, French hero of the American revolutionary war. Aside from the initial core squadron, other American volunteers would join the French air effort and their presence marked them as members of a wider Lafayette Flying Corps.

The pilots serving came from a diverse background. Some were idealists and patriots, while others were adventurers. Nevertheless, they all sacrificed their lives and showed immense bravery and courage to volunteer in the face of America’s own neutrality during WW1. After the war, many of the Lafayette Escadrille and the Flying Corps would serve as the founding fathers of American combat aviation, with the formation of the US Air Force.

To create a special timepiece that proudly bearing the Lafayette name, AVI-8 uses design bookmarks from the late 1910s to 1920s, fused with practical and modern watch mechanics and precision.

A 42mm pilot field case is sensibly sized, topped by a hardened mineral lens with both sapphire and anti-reflective coating. An “onion” style crown draws from early trench watches fashioned out of traditional pocket watches. These watches would eventually form the shape and design of quintessential pilot watches and would serve as critical pieces of instrumentation for the combat pilot. Piston like pushers operate and snap back reset the chronograph easily.

Art-deco inspired fonts mark the hours, and while the dial is calibrated comprehensively it remains clearly readable courtesy of intelligent spacing, proportionality and use of depth to dip into the chronograph sub dials.

The central dial layer’s subtle horizontal lines are drawn from the wing pattern of a Nieuport 17, an aircraft flown by many members of the Escadrille. A pulsometer is marked out on the tension ring of the dial with a nod to the French elements imbibed in the origin and inspiration of this watch.

The syringe like hour and minute hands are met with detailing on the chronograph seconds hand where a French Air Force roundel has been carefully applied true to the commitment of the brand to reflect history and narrative into the detail of the watches.

The case back is carved with the famed Indian head insignia of the Escadrille found on the Spad VIIs and other aircraft flown by them.

The AVI-8 Flyboy Lafayette Chronograph is equipped with a Japanese High Beat Meca-Quartz Sweep hand chronograph movement. Providing pin point split time accuracy to one fifth of a second, the movement’s behavior as an automatic with the precision of quartz makes for a very satisfying timing experience.

AVI-8 Spitfire Type 300 Automatic Edition (AV-4073)

AVI-8 is presenting its Spitfire range of timepieces, with the first model titled the Spitfire Type 300 Automatic Edition – paying tribute to the prototype Supermarine developed in 1934. Inspired by the lines, form and design of the famed World War 2 era fighter, AVI-8 delivers a unique take on a stylish timepiece that draws from one of the most famous aircraft to have ever flown.

This tidy, elegant fighter was a national hero and a pillar of the Royal Air Force. Its cutting edge design and superior specification gave it a fighting edge in the air against enemy aircraft during World War 2. Throughout the chapters of the air effort, pilots of the RAF skillfully moved the ever-impressive Spitfire from one battle to another. Arguably no battle was more important than the Battle of Britain, where side by side Hurricanes and Spitfires equipped with Rolls Royce Merlin engines helped successfully defend the skies over Great Britain in what was to be a crucial and pivotal stand against the Nazi Luftwaffe.

In designing a watch that takes its cues from the Spitfire, AVI-8 has looked at both the obvious and subtle details of its design and fabrication, purposefully injecting them into this timepiece.

A 42mm diameter case is shaped to follow the elegantly elliptical form of the Spitfire. From lug to case body, from the top curve of the convex sapphire lens to the case back and flowing side profile, the Type 300 is an immediate form driven echo of the Spitfire.

The crown, with its bulbous shape, subtly references the nose of the propeller. In designing the dial, the AVI-8 team looked immediately to the cockpit of the Spitfire. Taking the clear-cut legibility of the gauges and readouts of the aircraft, the Type 300 uses the indexes, hands and layout as its primary blueprint of the dial.

Through intelligent design and spatial arrangement, the outer ring of the dial slopes down to the lower dial’s main platform where a seconds subdial site at the five o’clock position is paired with the date display window at the three o’clock position. The hands are uniquely shaped for utter legibility and precision of readout.

Taking further cues from the cockpit, the syringe like hand set has been modified based on the hands used inside the altimeter and air speed indicators inside the Spitfire. Indexes and hands are lavishly layered with high grade Swiss lume for adept readout in low light conditions. The result is a dial that jumps the cockpit to the wrist all whilst delivering a timepiece that is clearly and undeniably functional as an instrument of time.

The Type 300 employs a custom modified Japanese made, 21 Jewels movement based on the robustly reliable Miyota 8 series. Using only the kinetic power of the wearer’s wrist, the custom designed rotor spins to generate a power source that delivers a beautifully honest battery free experience.

The rotor itself is an expression of the skill of the team at AVI-8, who have carved out a unique bird’s-eye view silhouette of the Spitfire as an ever spinning reminder of the plane that has inspired the watch.

Viewed easily through the exhibition see-through case back, the rotor, the movement and inner symphony of gears and wheels are a delight to behold as they work together in harmony to power the watch.

Securely holding the case to the wrist, a gracefully brushed solid stainless steel bracelet with solid deployant clasp tapers from 22mm at the lugs to 18mm. Each watch is paired with an additional premium genuine leather strap, offering versatility to quickly and easily change your style.

AVI-8 Flyboy Eagle Squadron Bronze Automatic Limited Edition

The Eagle Squadrons were three fighter squadrons of the Royal Air Force (RAF) formed with volunteer pilots from the United States during the early days of World War II (prior to America’s entry into the war in December 1941).

By 1942, following the attack on Pearl Harbour, the Americans had joined the war effort, and the three squadrons formed were transferred to the United States Air Force. Nonetheless, the bravery, sacrifice by a small group of Americans has not been forgotten and is commemorated by The Eagle Squadrons Memorial located in Grosvenor Square opposite a statue of Franklin D. Roosevelt.

The AVI-8 Flyboy Eagle Squadron Bronze Automatic Limited Edition pays tribute to the Eagle Squadron through a vintage pilot watch forged out of a classic silhouette. It is imagined with both history and technology, creating a timepiece that is a perfectly wearable homage to this chapter in the heroism of military aviation.

A 39mm diameter case with a 22mm lug width sits comfortably on the wrist in a proportion true to the pilot watches worn during the war. As these timepieces cases are bronze, it may develop a layer of oxidization over the surface of the case known as patina. A flat sapphire lens with anti-reflective coating offers a scratch-resistant clear window to the dial.

The dial itself offers legibility and clarity with the matt finish complemented by multiple layers of Swiss luminous painted on hour indexes. Blunt shape hands for the hour and minute display are also generously lumed for low-light visibility.

The Eagle Squadron is powered by a custom modified Seiko TMI NH35 self-winding automatic and is water-resistant to 50 meters.

The watch hugs the wrist with a vintage, horizontal hand-stitched leather strap but also comes packed with another supple yet sturdy genuine leather NATO strap.

Limited to 300 pieces, this uniquely elegant timepiece comes packed in a handsome canvas-covered field like box along with a brass plated plaque, extra strap and strap changing tool, making for a superb watch appealing to enthusiasts and collectors alike.

AVI-8 Hawker Hurricane Bader Chronograph Limited Edition

The Hawker Hurricane Bader Chronograph Limited Edition timepiece created by AVI-8 watches in partnership with the Douglas Bader Foundation commemorates and draws inspiration from the life, times and ethos of Sir Douglas Bader (1910 – 1982).

Sir Douglas Bader was renowned as perhaps one of the most celebrated flying aces for the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. His legacy and his life have over the years inspired countless people in many ways. As a double amputee, enlisted into the war effort, he was determined, fearless and intensely loyal. For a country in the grip of war, Bader’s exploits inspired a nation.

Sir Douglas Bader (1910 – 1982)

His bravery, skill and utter determination were a metaphor and echo for the allied effort in the skies and beyond. A book and subsequent film, Reach for the Sky, chronicled his life and RAF career to the end of the Second World War. Bader campaigned for the disabled and in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in 1976 was appointed a Knight Bachelor “for services to disabled people.”

AVI-8 has worked closely with Sir Douglas Bader’s family in producing a commemorative limited edition timepiece replete with visual and aesthetic cues from Sir Douglas Bader’s own life in the skies.

In addition to a lump sum donation, AVI-8 will donate 10% of all sales from the Bader Chronograph Limited Edition collection which will go towards the Douglas Bader Foundation that was set up in 1982 by Bader’s family and friends. The charity exists to advance and promote the mental and spiritual welfare of persons who are without one or more limbs, or otherwise physically disabled.

The Bader Chronograph Limited edition pays particular homage to his time as Wing Commander of No. 242 Canadian Squadron and his Hawker Hurricane, which took part in the Battle of Britain, where Bader alone was credited for 12 victories.

Each watch is uniquely numbered and one of a highly limited edition run of 726 pieces reflecting 242 (in honour of the 242 Squadron) pieces each across the three colour-ways presented.

AVI-8 Hawker Harrier ‘Ace of Spades’ Automatic Edition

AVI-8 announces its new timepiece, the Hawker Harrier ‘Ace of Spades’ Automatic Edition.

The Hawker Harrier Ace of Spades refers to the Marine Attack Squadron 231 United States Marine Corps that flies the AV-8B Harrier II McDonnell Douglas evolution of the Hawker Harrier.

This version of the Harrier was launched in the early 1990s. U.S. Army General Norman
Schwarzkopf named the Harrier / AV-8B’s as one of the most important weapons of the 1991
Gulf War. It continues to serve the needs of the Ace of Spades squadron to this day in various theatres of combat, providing close air support for ground troops and performing armed reconnaissance.

Measuring 46 mm in diameter the watch is built around a sturdy well-built case featuring a flat scratch-resistant sapphire lens. A crown positioned at the 2 o’clock positioned features a start insignia in a nod to the US Air Force insignia marking its namesake aircraft.

The dial of the Ace of Spades is a representation of the best of the AVI-8 brand. Comprised of more than 30 unique pieces, each part of the dial has been carefully designed and laid out in keeping with inspiration provided by the Harrier.

The passage of seconds is marked out by a custom modified disc just below the 3 o’clock position and the 24-hour subdial has been constructed with a series of layers and indexes which have been individually facetted applied with brush and polish finishes.

This attention to detail and finishing can be found across the dial. The result is a dial that while offering a clear cut time display, presents a contemporary military industrialized look.

Bold Flieger style hour and minute hands are bold and utterly legible, allowing for a clear presentation of time and are lumed with Swiss luminous for low light visibility.

Through the exhibition case back the watch shows off the custom self-winding rotor developed to echo the turbine rotors of the famed Rolls Royce Pegasus engine which powers the Harrier II.

A robust but supple genuine leather strap with military-inspired stitching hugs the watch to the wrist with a fit that is durable and effortlessly wearable. The Hawker Harrier 2 Ace of Spades Edition will be available from October 2019.

AVI-8 P-51 Mustang Automatic Bottisham Edition

Watch brand AVI-8 presents a limited edition automatic timepiece as a tribute to the legendary P-51 Mustang fighter aircraft.

The P-51 Mustang, built by North American Aviation (NAA), was arguably one of the greatest fighters of World War II.

The aerodynamically fluid lines of the Mustang’s new laminar flow wing decreased drag at higher speeds, maximizing performance.

By 1943, the Mustang had been equipped with the famed Rolls Royce Merlin engine which could also be found in the Supermarine Spitfires and the Hawker Hurricanes manufactured in Britain. In doing so, the resulting aircraft proved to be one of the most successful fighters to enter the war, serving in many different arenas of combat including Europe, the Mediterranean and the Pacific.

Its long range, lethal weaponry and incredible speed with outstanding maneuverability enshrined it in the history of military aviation. The fact that the Mustang remained in service with various Air Forces around the world well into the 1980s is a testament to its superb abilities.

The Bottisham edition pays tribute to 361st Fighter Group, United States Eighth Air Force, comprising the 374th, 375th and 376th Fighter Squadrons, which operated out of RAF Bottisham Airfield.

In particular the “Bottisham Four” was a famous photograph featuring four P51s in a majestic formation that became perhaps one of the most iconic representations of the eventual airborne superiority of the Allies in WW2.

The watch that carries the AVI-8 brand into the realm of the P-51 is a suitably superb watch that imbibes aesthetic cues from the lines, details and form of the Mustang.

A 43 mm case features a curved crown guard with detailing that references the engine exhaust of the aircraft. The case has fine brush finishing on the bezel with articulated lugs that flow fluidly into the bulbous yet streamlined case shape. A slightly convexed scratch resistant sapphire lens tops the bezel, creating an altogether aerodynamic profile in shape and form.

The dial takes its cues from the cockpit and outer insignia of the Mustang. A multi layered dial offers up cutaway Arabic markers at the 3, 6, 9 and 0 hours with baton markers in-between. The effect is a clearly marked, no-nonsense dial layout that speaks to immediate legibility.

Each hour and minute marker, along with the sword shaped hands, are generously lathered with high grade Swiss lume for low light visibility and clarity. The genuine leather strap that hugs the wrist is custom designed and offers subtly stitched details to continue the overall aesthetic harmony of the watch.

For even greater versatility, each watch comes with an additional nylon and canvas, Velcro-release cuff-like strap. This option provides a snug, ever more comfortable and durable fit, ensuring that the P-51 Mustang Automatic Bottisham Edition is no mere souvenir but a truly robust piece of aviation inspired watchmaking.

Each watch is uniquely numbered as part of a limited edition of 1490 pieces. The P-51 Mustang Automatic Bottisham Edition is available via the AVI-8 website in an early release sign up to be followed by wider distribution across select retail partners worldwide.

The Bottisham Automatic comes with an additional nylon and canvas, Velcro-release cuff-like strap.

AVI-8 Hawker Harrier Retrograde Chronograph – Blue Nylon Limited Edition

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of a record-breaking year in the field of aeronautics and aviation, AVI-8 in partnership with renowned aviation restoration company Jet Art Aviation, presents the Hawker Harrier Retrograde Chronograph Blue Nylon Limited Edition.

In an operation code-named Blue Nylon by the RAF, a Harrier GR Mk. 1 was enlisted to participate in the Daily Mail Trans-Atlantic Air Race organized to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Flight Lieutenants Alcock and Brown’s first non-stop flight across the Atlantic in 1919.

The race was held between 4th and 11th May 1969, although named an air race, it was actually a race of individuals between the Post Office Tower in London to the Empire State Building in New York. Each of the individuals who entered was required to use some form of air transport. With a number of different categories, a total of 21 prizes could be won.

On the 5th May 1969, flying Harrier XV741, Squadron Leader Tom Lecky-Thompson flew from St. Pancras railway station in London, landing in New York in 6 hours and 11 minutes. The race captured the attention of the general public on both sides of the Atlantic, highlighting the versatility and operational capabilities of the Harrier, dramatically underlined by its sheer vertical take-off from a disused coal yard in St. Pancras, in the middle of London.

The Blue Nylon Limited Edition, designed in collaboration with Jet Art Aviation, feature a genuine piece of the fuselage of the original Harrier XV741. Limited to 300 pieces and each uniquely numbered, the Blue Nylon will be an instant collectible.

AVI-8 Hawker Hurricane AV-4068 Chronograph Bulman Edition

With this new wristwatch, AVI-8 Time Instruments pay tribute to Group Captain Paul Ward Spencer Bulman (1896-1963), who was the chief test pilot for Hawker Aircraft.

George Bulman flew for the Royal Flying Corps (later Royal Air Force) and was awarded the Military Cross and the Air Force Cross for his bravery and service to the country. Following his retirement from active service, Bulman became a test pilot for and became a director of the Hawker Aircraft Company. He worked closely with the company’s chief designer, Sir Sidney Camm and had tested many of Camm’s prototypes, including the Hawker Hurricane.

In commemorating Bulman, Avi-8 looks to reflect and pay tribute to the behind the scenes efforts of engineers, test pilots, designers all working with the most critical of briefs, the very defense of their country, under the most trying of wartime conditions..

Measuring 45 mm in diameter, the watch boasts a deliberately subdued look at first glance with a bead blasted matte finish. The dial harmonizes a classic pilot watch outlook with a cockpit inspired design. Instrumentation like chronograph subdials sit at the 12 and 6 o’clock position with a raised debossed tone on tone roundel at the 9 o’clock position and date display at the 3 o’clock position.

Arabic and baton shaped hour markers frame the watch perfectly with cutaway detailing with a luminous under dial giving clarity and legibility in all lighting conditions. Classically shaped arrow or “Fleiger” style hands are suitably lumed and are precisely proportioned and balanced on the watch.

The strong bold lines belie a subtlety and layering of the dial which includes a finely distressed layer of dial work which marries well with the vintage military inspired aesthetics of the watch.

Vintage hand stitched leather is similarly distressed to create and to deliver more character with wear while offering a supple and comfortable fit on the wrist.

Water resistant to 5ATM and powered by a precision Japanese Seiko TMI module chronograph movement, the watch is as much a dependable piece of wrist instrumentation for every day wear as it is a suitable tribute to the Hurricane and one of the many unsung heroes attached to its legacy.
