Vortic Watch Company presents Boston 480 Cherub, a new addition to its popular American Artisan Series watches.
Like all timepieces from the Vortic American Artisan family, this timepiece is a one of a kind creation. Most importantly, the Boston 480 has a beautiful Cherub-themed dial, a popular design choice for pocket watches of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
This timepiece features a restored pocket watch movement made by Waltham Watch Company. In the Vortic Boston 480 Cherub model, the original movement, dial, and hands come from a vintage pocket watch made by this historic company.
Originally manufactured in 1919, the 19 jewel pocket watch movement has been painstakingly restored before fitting into the 46mm case in sand-blasted titanium.
Visible through the exhibition case-back, this hand-wound mechanical calibre is capable of delivering 36 hours of power reserve. It can be manually wound by the knurled copper crown positioned between the lugs above 12 o’ clock hour marker.
CNC milled from a solid block of aerospace grade titanium, the case features a Gorilla Glass on the top and stainless steel case-back. Thickness of the watch is 12mm, lug/strap width is 22mm, and lug to lug length is 55mm.
The artistically crafted cherub-themed dial spotlights delicate Roman numerals and thin blued-steel hands. The natural leather strap perfectly harmonizes with the dial colour theme.
The Vortic Boston 480 Cherub is a unique piece and its suggested retail price is $3,100.
Made by TimeCore, a micro watch brand inspired by Industrial design, Eclipse is a retro-futuristic wristwatch with an automatic movement.
TimeCore is a watch brand based in San Diego, California. It has recently launched a Kickstarter online crowd funding campaign to undertake the mass production of the Eclipse Automatic Watch.
The asymmetric 3 piece case design of this timepiece evokes the motion of our sun, planets, and moons during an eclipse. Measuring 52mm in diameter, this stainless steel watch with a domed K1 Mineral lens is water-resistant up to 100 meters.
Framing the dial and bezel, is a concave outer radius edge inspired by the dish shape of UFOs. This distinct flying saucer shaped automatic watch is available with three variations: Silver, Black and Blue. The dial pattern, the color of logo and bezel finishing vary depending upon the version.
The TimeCore Eclipse Automatic watch houses the workhorse NH35 movement, capable of providing a power reserve of approximately 41 hours.
The watch displays the hour, minute and seconds with three central hands. It has a date window (crescent shaped aperture in case of Black and Blue versions) at 3 o’clock. In Silver and Blue versions, the TimeCore logo appears at 12H of the main dial. In the Black Eclipse model, the logo pops up at 12H of the oval shaped sub-dial.
The screw-down crown is finely machined to feel as though it’s straight off a starship. Unique detailed fasteners pull elements together along with a stamped and engraved screw-down case back.
TimeCore’s custom poly-band ties together the silhouette of the outer case. The case back is custom engraved and stamped with the TimeCore logo and surrounding engine core. Each Eclipse watch will be assembled in the USA using parts made in Japan and China.
The brand is presently offering this timepiece via Kickstarter at a special price starting at $325. The future retail price will be $499.

With its origins dating back to the 1960s, the Seagull 1963 Chronograph is one of the most recognizable wristwatches ever made. It is a product of Tianjin Watch Factory, the world’s largest manufacturer of mechanical watch movements.
Founded in 1955 in China, this state-owned firm was initially known as WuYi Watch Company. Producer of the first Chinese mechanical watch, it relocated to Tianjin in 1962 and came to known as Tianjin Watch Factory. This company rose to fame with the launch of the first Chinese pilot’s chronograph in the early 1960s.
The People’s Liberation Army Air Force wanted a reliable chronograph watch for its pilots, and the Chinese Government appointed Tianjin Watch Factory to manufacture a suitable timepiece for the Air Force Pilots.
Meanwhile in Switzerland, the iconic movement company Venus was searching for capital to develop the Cal.188 chronograph movement. Then known as Fabrique d’Ebauches Venus SA and based in Moutier, the Swiss manufacture decided to sell the production rights and tooling of the Cal. 175 to a potential buyer so that it could raise money for the production of Cal.188.
It was the right opportunity for the Tianjin Watch Factory, and it acquired the manufacturing rights and production facilities of the Venus 175 chronograph calibre from the Swiss company.
With the help of these blueprints and machinery, the Chinese manufacturer succeeded in creating movements for equipping the chronograph watches proposed for the Chinese Air Force.
Introduced by the Fabrique d’Ebauches Vénus in the 1940s, Calibre 175 is a manual-winding mechanical column-wheel chronograph movement with a 30-minute counter. To equip the Chinese Air Force chronograph, TWF modified the 17 jewel Cal. Venus 175 and produced the 19 jewel ST3 movement. The oscillator frequency was also increased from 2.5 Hz to 3 Hz.
Using the ST3 chronograph calibre, TWC had created several prototypes and submitted for approval. In the end of 1960s, the company supplied approximately 3,000 chronographs to Chinese People’s Liberation Army Air Force, also known as PLAAF. Later on, the production was discontinued.
In the early 2000s, Tianjin SEA-GULL Company launched a timepiece based on the prototype that they developed for the PLAAF in 1963. Named 1963 Chinese Air Force Chronograph, this re-launch model houses the Seagull ST1901 calibre with 21 jewels.
This stainless steel chronograph soon became a highly sought-after collector’s piece. The Seagull Watch Company subsequently expanded this series by adding several new models.
Equipped with the 21 jewel Cal. Seagull ST1901, this hand-wound mechanical chronograph is presently available in 38mm, 40mm and 42mm case versions in stainless steel, bronze or blackened steel. It still maintains the emblematic bicompax dial layout. Once fully wound, the movement offers a power reserve of 42 hours.
In addition to the emblematic vintage cream dial, the brand is offering new colour choices like black, blue, green, grey, yellow and white. The dial boasts the iconic star emblem just below the 12 o’clock. Below the star is the inscription 21 Zuan, which means 21 jewels.
The watches are available with a retro-styled acrylic glass or scratch-proof sapphire crystal. These watches also come with exhibition case-backs allowing to admire the iconic Seagull ST1901 manual-winding chronograph movement.
These highly sought-after homages of the historic Seagull Chinese Air Force Chronograph are now available for purchase via Seagull 1963, official reseller of Seagull watches.
Depending upon the version, the prices range from 279 to 429 Euros. Based in Belgium, the reseller is offering worldwide delivery.

AVI-8 presents a new edition of its popular Hawker Harrier collection by presenting a new multifunction model offering dual time retrograde display, date and 24-hour functions.
As the name suggests AVI-8’s Hawker Harrier is a tribute to the legendary British combat jet developed in the 1960s. The new multifunction watch model is named after the famed Hawker Harrier test pilot John Farley.
Retired in 2006, Hawker Harrier was capable of carried out multiple missions including ground attack and reconnaissance. Moreover, it was provided with the vertical/short take off and landing facilities.
Renowned for his work in developing and testing the legendary Hawker Harrier, Farley also displayed his mastery of the aircraft when he captivated the world with the now famous “Farley Take Off”, a stunt he performed by hovering the Harrier then tilting the nose almost entirely vertically before applying full throttle to “rocket climb” away.
Remarkably, during his aviation career, Farley flew over 80 different types of aircrafts and was the first British pilot to fly the Mikoyan MiG –29.
AVI-8 Hawker Harrier Farley Multifunction

This quartz watch is powered by a reliable and precise Japanese multifunction movement with a date, dual time retrograde display and 24-hour read-out.

Created as a tribute to diving pioneer Henry Fleuss (1851–1933), Spinnaker Fleuss is a popular dive watch collection. Now, the brand has expanded this series by adding a new model named after Marlborough, the birth place of Fleuss.
Henry Albert Fleuss
Henry Albert Fleuss was born in Marlborough, in the county of Wiltshire in the United Kingdom. Passionate about seafaring, he became a marine officer with the British shipping and logistics company P&O.
While performing his duties in P&O cargo ships, he found that the divers had to use heavy and cumbersome apparatus for recovering lost cargo. He wanted to simplify this system for making the diver independent of the surface, dispensing the heavy pump and the large crew needed to operate the apparatus.
Finally, Fleuss discovered a reliable method to incorporate a source of compressed oxygen and for absorption of carbon dioxide. This enhanced system was extremely useful for divers as it would minimize the need of any external support while diving.
Eventually, as engineer and Master Diver for Siebe, Gorman & Co., he developed the self-contained diving apparatus further. The Davis Submarine Escape Apparatus developed with Robert Davis was a neat and compact derivative of the Fleuss apparatus, recognized as the first practical closed-circuit breathing apparatus.
This crucial piece of equipment would pave the way for the Frogmen and Human Torpedo riders of World War II. The Fleuss Marlborough by Spinnaker pays tribute to this legendary diving engineer.
Limited to just 500 pieces in total, this new Spinnaker diving watch takes inspiration from the aesthetic and design language of the late 1800s and early 1900s.
The cathedral style hour and minute hands are cohesively matched with a set of index hour markers lathered in Swiss Super-LumiNova for optimal visibility in low light conditions. A semi see-through dial delivers a clear and legible view of the time, with a date window positioned at 6 o’clock.
The Spinnaker Fleuss Marlborough model features a “pumpkin” style crown inspired by the designs of the early 19th-century watches.
A purpose built diving instrument, this automatic timepiece features a solid marine grade stainless steel case measuring 43mm in diameter and topped with scratch resistant sapphire crystal front glass. Also made of stainless steel, the case-back is screw-down type.
Water resistant to 15 ATM (150M), the Spinnaker Fleuss Marlborough watch is powered by the TMI NH35 automatic movement made in Japan. It displays the hour, minute, seconds and date. This 24 jewel self-winding movement comes with bi-directional rotor, hand-winding feature, Diashock shock proof system, 21,600 bph, hacking seconds function, and 41 hour power reserve.
The Spinnaker Fleuss Automatic Marlborough features an updated custom built 7-link solid stainless steel bracelet with fold over diver clasp. In addition, this limited edition features an extra genuine leather water-resistant strap for added versatility.
Available in two colours – Strom Black and Teal – each watch is limited to 250 pieces. Its retail price is USD $370.
