Konstantin Chaykin Kolobok 2
With the new Kolobok 2 model, Russian watchmaker Konstantin Chaykin continues his Wristmons series with a character from a popular fairy tale.

Less than a year and a half has passed since the premiere of the Kolobok watch, the first wristmon dedicated to the character from a Russian fairy tale that everyone in Russia has known since childhood.
This character in the Wristmons collection has been enthusiastically received by collectors and connoisseurs of fine watchmaking.

Kolobok’s adventures in the world of luxury watches continue with the new Kolobok 2 watch. It is important to note that unlike the first limited edition Kolobok model, the Kolobok 2 will not be limited, but will become a regular model in the Wristmon collection, joining the Joker Classic watches.
The traveling hero who embarks on a journey – this motif appears again and again in many subjects of world culture, be it The Odyssey, Don Quixote, Journey to the West, Pinocchio or The Mandalorian, to describe this theme with just a few titles.

Konstantin Chaykin is close to the meta-message that unites all these stories, including the Russian fairy tale about the Kolobok: no matter what happens, you should move forward. That’s exactly what Chaykin does when proposes a new wristmon. There is another hidden meaning in the design of the Kolobok 2: Konstantin Chaykin believes that the image of this fairy-tale character has an additional dimension – it is a kind of premonition of the emoticon, the “first Russian smiley”.
In general, Kolobok 2 has retained the carefree character of his predecessor – he is chubby-cheeked, ruddy, smiling, blue-eyed and a little cheeky. The anthropomorphic dial with the moon “smile” and the constantly rotating hour and minute indicators in the shape of the character’s eyes, ensure that the watch is perceived on an emotional level, even subconsciously which are typical of all Chaykin’s wristmons.

By abandoning the integrated display of the moon phase and day of the week invented by Chaykin, which was one of the most striking technical ideas implemented in the original Kolobok, the Kolobok 2 watch received a more expressive, restrained and laconic design with a classic moon “smile”, with which the history of the Wristmons collection began.

The return to the original wristmons displays is underlined by the use of the basic G200 movement from the Swiss manufacturer La Joux-Perret, while the first Kolobok was equipped with a modified Eta 2892-A2 caliber as a base.

The La Joux-Perret G200, a high-quality automatic movement with a power reserve of 68 hours, is one of the latest developments from the Swiss manufacture, which was supplied to Konstantin Chaykin in a special, customized version. In addition to the extended power reserve, Konstantin Chaykin was particularly attracted by the reliable construction with a full balance bridge and a free-sprung balance with variable inertia.

The joker-indication module, which is installed on the base movement, is developed and made entirely in the Konstantin Chaykin Manufacture according to the standards of modern high-end watchmaking.
As always, Konstantin Chaykin attaches great importance to the decorative finish of the watch, which is carefully thought out to fully reflect the original concept.

The multi-layered lacquering of the dial with a color gradient effect, for example, has recreated the feel of a toasted bread crust – this is one of the key design elements of the Kolobok 2 watch. The playful character of the figure is emphasized by the use of gloss varnish in the eye decoration – it gives the eyes a vibrant shine that undoubtedly sets the Kolobok 2 watch apart from other wristmons.

Further design improvements, such as the removal of the frame around the Kolobok’s smiling mouth and a reshaped set of teeth for the character, ensure that Kolobok 2 is perceived as a model in its own right and not just a new version of the original design.
