BYRNE STAR 38mm

Celebrating its 3-year journey at Geneva watch week 2025, Byrne introduces STAR 38mm, a new milestone with a world-first and the brand’s most advanced timepiece.

BYRNE STAR 38mm watch

Launched in August 2022, Byrne Watch is the brainchild of Claire Cohen, a luxury & fashion expert, and John Byrne, a visionary designer and watchmaker.

The new Byrne Star watch draws its inspiration from a historical Vacheron Constantin pocket watch that John Byrne restored over 20 years ago. Purchased in India, this rare watch, believed to have belonged to a Pope, features an enlarged map of Italy with intricate details, making it a truly unique artifact.

John, a watch restorer, meticulously restored the watch in 2005, carefully recreating the lost champlevé enamel sections, including an entire top section at noon. His restoration work caught the attention of Vacheron Constantin, and the piece was eventually acquired by their museum. To commemorate the 200th anniversary of this masterpiece, John created the Byrne Star, a modern homage to this Pope watch.

The Byrne Star 38mm watch introduces two distinct complications: a classic 12-hour Worldtimer and a groundbreaking Time Flow gyro-complication.

The 12-hour Worldtime function displays 12 locations on a central disk, with an elegant display that makes tracking time zones simple.

The Byrne Star features a world first: the very original “Time Flow” complication, showcased on the signature gyro dial with four rotating cubes at the cardinal points, each showing a different phase of the day—morning, noon, evening, and night—offering a dynamic, visual and synchronized representation of time as it unfolds across the globe and going further than just a simple day/night AM/PM complication.

The brand adds a poetic twist to this watch with an entirely new complication: the moments of the day, brought to life through its signature and patented gyro dial, offering a dynamic, ever-changing view of time as it unfolds around the world.

The gyro dial divides the day into 4 phases:

  • Early Morning: The first light of the day, as the night fades away, is a soft, light sky blue—symbolizing renewal and the start of a productive day.
  • Noon: A vibrant turquoise blue, representing the peak of energy and activity.
  • Evening: Dusk. The transitional period between day and night, when light gently fades but some illumination remains, is represented by a deep, dark blue—evoking relaxation and introspection.
  • Night: A starry sky color, symbolizing rest and stillness, reflecting the quiet and peaceful nature of the night (and a nod to the piece’s name).

The cubes on the dial, representing 16 cities that are dear to John Byrne, don’t provide specific hours but rather the moment of the day in those locations. Each city holds a special meaning for John, tied to personal stories, encounters, moments of awe, or places where he has lived and experienced life.

The Byrne Star features a completely reimagined 38mm case that’s 2mm thinner, more rounded, and crafted from Grade 5 titanium for a lightweight yet robust feel. The result is a timepiece that blends modern innovation with timeless elegance, staying true to the brand’s essence while elevating its sophistication.

The rhodium dial is sunburst-finished, adding depth and texture. The hands, thin and open-worked, in yellow gold—an homage to the sun but also to the Vacheron Constantin pocket watch—enhance readability as they sweep across the dial.

The watch is paired with a luxurious double crocodile strap, featuring a top layer of navy blue Alligator Louisiana ‘Grandes Ecailles’ with hand-stitched ‘saddle’ seams, and a smooth, small-scale Alligator leather on the back, all in a rich blue color that adds a striking contrast to the timepiece.
