Genex Vintage Mechanical Watch
Recently I have purchased a vintage Genex hand-wound mechanical watch. In this article, I am sharing the details about this timepiece.

The history of Genex watch brand dates back to the 1920s. It was registered by Hans Wilsdorf, the founder of Rolex and Tudor. It seems that the company stopped producing Genex watches in the 1940s.
From internet, I couldn’t find any verified information about the model featured in this review. This stainless steel watch has a small, round case measuring approximately 27.5mm diameter excluding the crown. It also has a slightly domed glass above the dial.

The dial features a snailed track with indexes and Arabic numeral hour markers. It also hosts three centrally positioned hands for indicating the time. The brand name (GENEX) and its logo is placed below 12H.
On the lower part of the dial, you can find inscriptions 17 JEWELS, SHOCK PROTECTED and SWISS MADE. The hour and minute hands are gold-toned whereas the seconds hand is in red.
Made of stainless steel, screw-in case-back features inscriptions SWISS MADE, STAINLESS STEEL, WATERPROOF, SHOCK-PROTECTED and ANTIMAGNETIC as well as two numbers: 951667 and 8004.

After opening the case-back, I found a removable metal plate for protecting the movement components from magnetic interferences.

This manual-wound movement features the words GENEX, 17 RUBIES and SWISS MADE. Unfortunately, I could not find any hallmark or inscription to identity this calibre.

This vintage GENEX mechanical watch is fitted on a steel Bonklip bracelet. Sadly, it doesn’t have any seal or inscription to identify its origin.

It is to be noted that there was a watch case manufacturer named Genex SA in Switzerland. It was a subsidiary of Fabrique de Cadrans Stern Frères, a historic dial making company. In 1998, Rolex acquired Genex SA along with the iconic bracelet producer Gay Frères.
