Cuervo y Sobrinos, the Official Timekeeper of Iberian Historic Endurance, presents the Historiador Historic Endurance limited-edition chronograph.
This Swiss made automatic wristwatch boasts a bicompax dial presented in British Racing Green with contrasting silver-toned counters, two colours that are synonymous with motorsport.
Iberian Historic Endurance is a series of races staged on some of Europe’s iconic race tracks. The luxury Swiss brand with Latin soul, offers an exclusive personalised watch to the winner of the Index Performance of each competition. More than valuing the first to cross the finish line, this index values the best “performance” according to age, cylinder capacity and type of car (Touring, GT or Sport).
Also, to mark its association with Iberian Historic Endurance, Cuervo y Sobrinos has produced a limited-edition, bicompax model, the Historiador Historic Endurance. The twin counter design contributes to the model’s symmetrical and harmonious look and vintage-inspired appearance.
The dial is dressed in British Racing Green and complemented with silver-toned counters. Both colours can be traced back to the Gordon Bennett Cup, a race staged in 1900 where the nationality of the driver dictated the colour of their car.
This system subsequently changed and the nationality of the team determined the hue of the car’s bodywork. For example, French cars were presented in ‘Bleu de France’, German cars were silver and British cars were painted in ‘British Racing Green’.
The composition of the dial is enriched with a myriad of subtle, well-chosen details. While the silver-coloured hour and minute hands, along with the small seconds hand located at 3 o’clock, are all leaf-shaped, the hand fitted to the 30-minute counter is presented in black and sports a prominent triangular tip.
The tachymeter scale is shown against a black background, augmenting legibility. The word, ‘Taquimetro’, meaning tachymeter in both Portuguese and Spanish, pays tribute to the origins of the historic race.
Measuring 40mm in diameter, the stainless steel case befits present-day tastes. To the rear of the watch, a pane of sapphire crystal affords sight of the CYS 8129 automatic calibre. Furthermore, the crystal is adorned with ‘Historic Endurance official logo of the competition and the number 76 (that’s refers to the limited number of watches produced).
The watch is presented on a black driving-style perforated calf strap with green stitching. The perforations are intended to evoke thoughts of the traditional racing gloves worn in yesteryear.
The Iberian Historic Endurance comprises several classic cars that fall into five categories based on the age of the participating vehicle. The H-1976 category applies to the youngest cars, dating between 1.1.1972 and 31.12.1976.
The new Historiador Historic Endurance is limited to just 76 pieces, a reference to the youngest cars competing in the historic series.
