Unveiled during the Watches and Wonders Shanghai (from 13 to 17 September 2023), the new Roger Dubuis Excalibur Spider Revuelto Flyback Chronograph takes inspiration from Lamborghini Revuelto HPEV.
This timepiece celebrates long-lasting partnership between Roger Dubuis and Lamborghini Squadra Corse. Its inspirational source, Lamborghini Revuelto represents a milestone in speed as the very first super sports V12 hybrid plug-in HPEV (High Performance Electrified Vehicle).
This new model incorporates the fifth generation of chronograph design from Roger Dubuis. So far in 2023, two outstanding watches have been launched in the new generation: Monovortex™ Split-Seconds Chronograph and Excalibur Spider Flyback Chronograph.
The new Excalibur Spider Revuelto Flyback Chronograph houses the automatic RD78 Calibre. This integrated chronograph movement carries two patents: one linked to the second hand of the chronograph and the other to the display of the minute counter. The calibre also features a column wheel, a tilted balance with variable inertia and a vertical coupling clutch.
Visible from the dial side, the column wheel at 6 o’clock governs the start, stop and return to 0 of the chronograph. This component also makes the pushers much smoother to operate.
Inspired by the gear-system of a supercar, the vertical clutch mechanism of this chronograph movement features an innovative Second Braking System (SBS). This brake, directly attached to one of the clamps, is a patent-pending innovation that brings extra stability to the chronograph seconds hand and drastically decreases its flicker.
Positioned at 3 o’clock, the 120° Rotating Minute Counter (RMC) includes a patent-pending tripartite hand that carries the 0, 1 and 2, accurately rotating past the 0-9 digits on the right.
Adorned in shades of orange and green, this 45 mm timepiece stands out in the eye-catching colours that supercars are known for.
A signature “Y” shape bar on the dial mirrors the headlights of Lamborghini’s V12 hybrid supercar. Along with skeletonised pushers, the case is matched by a ceramic bezel.
Visible though the exhibition case-back, the rotor of the self-winding movement has been shaped with five arms, like the rims of a supercar’s wheel.
The Excalibur Spider Revuelto Flyback Chronograph comes with a green rubber strap with orange stitching. Notched for extra volume, it features a Quick Release System that ensures the wearer can change the strap in seconds for more versatility.
The Excalibur Spider Revuelto Flyback Chronograph is available in a limited edition of 88 pieces only. Inscribed on the watch’s floating tachymeter scale, the number 88 is a tribute to Mr Roger Dubuis’ lucky number.
