Japanese watch brand Orient Star presents the new M45 F7 Mechanical Moon Phase watch with a blue gradation dial.
This new model from the M45 family (an Orient Star collection named after the star cluster M45 Pleiades) features a striking, blue gradation dial expressing the mystical star cluster that colours the night skies.
Known as Subaru in Japanese language, the M45 Pleiades (the Seven Sisters) refers to the open star cluster of Taurus observed in the eastern skies in early winter.
With its white light tinged with blue, this fascinating star cluster has been used to mark the time and seasons. Since ancient times, it has been admired for the mesmerising beauty of its hot blue luminous stars.
Thanks to complex manufacturing processes and advanced technology, the dial of the new M45 F7 Mechanical Moon Phase watch reproduces the enchanting beauty of the star cluster.
The surface of the dial is first stamped with patterns to represent the infinite stars. The delicate patterns change expressions depending on the angle from which light enters and create a scene of twinkling stars on the dial.
Next, uniquely formulated paint is applied using a gradation machine to delicately adjust the colour density and width, creating tones that change from blue at the centre of the dial to black towards the outer edge. The painted surface is then coated with wrapping that is thicker and more transparent than normal clear coating, giving the blue gradation dial the depth of the night sky.
The power reserve indicator at 12 o’clock and the moon phase, date hand and date display at 6 o’clock, are designed in a dual-plate structure.
The black Roman numeral indices, which match the colour of the dial’s outer rim, are printed in multiple layers to form exquisite contour and shading, distinguishing them from the background. The vapour-plated blue hour and minute hands blend in with the night sky, while the mirror and hairline finishes add legibility.
The gold-coloured accents by the index and power reserve are reminiscent of the stars shining particularly bright in the M45 Pleiades. The case is made of high-quality stainless steel (SUS316L) and set off with deep black plating.
Measuring 41.0 mm in diameter, the case houses calibre F7M65, a 22-jewel automatic in-house developed movement with a power reserve of 50 hours.
The M45 F7 Mechanical Moon Phase watch belongs to the M Collection recently inducted by Orient Star. Comprising three distinct ranges, this new flagship offers luxurious mechanical timepieces inspired by the Greek Mythology.
M45 is named after the Pleiades star cluster, M34 takes inspiration from the cluster of stars of Perseus, and M42 pays tribute to Orion, who is said to be the son of Poseidon, ancient Greek god of the sea.
