Japanese watchmaker Seiko has announced the new “Seiko Watchmaking 110th Anniversary” models from the Presage, Prospex, Astron, and 5 Sports collections. These limited edition watches celebrate the 110th anniversary of Laurel, Seiko’s first wristwatch.
Presage Seiko Watchmaking 110th Anniversary Limited Editions
From the Presage collection, Seiko is offering three anniversary editions inspired by the design of Laurel.
The first one is reference SPB401/ SPB401J1 (JDM reference SARW071), a Presage Craftsmanship Series model that follows the design of the Laurel in nearly every detail.
Crafted by master craftsman Mitsuru Yokosawa and his team, the pristine white enamel dial of this watch comes with a red “12” and classically styled blue hands as a homage to Seiko’s first wristwatch.
Powered by Seiko’s high-performance Caliber 6R27, this model displays the date at 6 o’clock and the power reserve at 9.
The 40.2mm diameter case in stainless steel uses a recently updated design to emphasize the finely crafted dial and offer a slimmer look on the wrist. The Presage reference SPB401 will be available in a limited edition of 1,500 pieces.
The second Presage Anniversary model comes from the Sharp Edged Series. This watch (reference SPB413/ SPB413J1/ JDM SARX113) features an angular, modern case and a subtle red mark at the 12 o’clock position on the inner ring in honor of the Laurel.
The faceted hour and minute hands combine with the dial’s asanoha or “hemp leaf” pattern and the case’s sharp angles for a refined and modern look that exudes precision and quality. It houses the Caliber 6R55.
The Seiko Presage Sharp Edged Reference SPB413 is a limited edition of 2,000 pieces.
The third model is the automatic Presage Style60’s GMT watch (reference SSK015/ SSK015J1/ JDM SARY233) with a 40.8mm stainless steel case.
Powered by Caliber 4R34, this dual timezone watch comes with blued hands including the one for the GMT function. An inner ring with a small red mark at 12 o’clock enables precise indication of the minutes and seconds. Thanks to an application of Lumibrite on the hour and minute hands, the time is always easy to read, day or night.
Limited to 3,500 pieces, the Presage SSK015 model features a box shaped hardlex glass and exhibition case-back.
Prospex Seiko Watchmaking 110th Anniversary Limited Editions
From the Prospex collection, Seiko has announced two limited edition watches to celebrate the 110th anniversary of Laurel.
The first is a Speedtimer Solar Chronograph (reference SFJ009/ SFJ009J1/ JDM SBER009) with a bright white dial inspired by Laurel. Equipped with a solar-quartz movement, this analog chronograph is capable of measuring elapsed time to 1/100th of a second.
The sub-dial hands at the two, 10, and 12 o’clock positions are a vivid shade of red in honor of the Laurel. Black sub-dials provide this Speedtimer chronograph with a layout that enhances legibility while making a subtle nod to vintage Seiko chronographs.
The second anniversary model from the Prospex collection is a Seiko Alpinist (reference SPB409/ SPB409J1/ JDM SBEJ017) with a 39.5mm diameter stainless steel case.
Inspired by the historic Laurel watch, blue-colored hands are set against a light-colored dial. A red mark on the compass ring reinforces the connection to the Laurel while indicating the cardinal direction north.
It houses Caliber 6R54, the automatic GMT movement with a power reserve of 72 hours or three full days.
Astron Seiko Watchmaking 110th Anniversary Limited Edition
Seiko presents a special 110th Anniversary edition from the latest evolution of its high-tech Astron watch.
Powered by the latest Astron GPS Solar movement, Caliber 3X62, the anniversary edition (reference SSJ019/ SSJ019J1/ JDM SBXD019) features an updated design with a faceted titanium bezel that debuted this year.
The simple white dial is a tribute to the Laurel, and the inner dial ring is punctuated by numerals every five minutes, with a single red “60” at the 12 o’clock position in honor of the Laurel. A lone sub-dial indicates the receiving process of GPS signals as well as the watch’s charging status, leap second data receipt, and in-flight mode.
This watch connects automatically up to twice a day to the GPS network to maintain its precision of one second every 100,000 years.
Dressed in a 41.2mm diameter titanium case and secured with a solid case-back, the Astron GPS Seiko Watchmaking 110th anniversary edition is limited to 800 pieces.
5 Sports Seiko Watchmaking 110th Anniversary Limited Edition
And finally, Seiko has created an anniversary edition 5 Sports watch (SRPK41/ JDM SBSA241) from the Field Sports Style Category. Limited to 6,000 pieces, this stainless steel model features a dial with accents chosen in honor of the Laurel. It features hardlex glass just like all Seiko 5 sports models.
The hands, for example, are blue, while red numerals are used for the 24-hour scale. Fitted on a five-link bracelet crafted in stainless steel, this self-winding wristwatch displays for the day and the date in addition to the time.
Delivering a power reserve of 41 hours, the automatic Caliber 4R36 is visible through the exhibition case-back.
Each creation from the Seiko Watchmaking 110th Anniversary Limited Editions comes with a strap made with leather from Leather Working Group-certified tanneries, either as the main form of attachment or in addition to the bracelet pictured.
All the watches will be available at the Seiko Boutiques and select retail stores worldwide as limited editions from October 2023.
