The Chronoking “Paul Newman” Orange is the latest addition to the Nivada Grenchen meca-quartz series of chronographs.
A meca-quartz watch houses a quartz movement for the time functions and a mechanical module for the chronograph.
For this reissue, Nivada Grenchen worked on a new version of its fabled Chronomaster, inspired by a vintage Chronoking dial of the seventies.
Originally sporting “Paul Newman” style sub-dials, it featured a tonneau case housing a Valjoux 72 movement. Its dial was manufactured by Jean Singer, a leading Swiss dial maker based in La Chaux-de-Fonds and highly regarded for producing some of the most iconic and collectible exotic dials.
Inspired by the 1970s dial design, this new version of the Nivada Chronoking has a black dial featuring tan sub-dials with the telltale art deco-style “Newman” typography. Lighting up the dial is the minute track with an orange gradient.
The Nivada Grenchen Chronoking “Paul Newman” Orange comes with a 38mm diameter case in stainless steel, black unidirectional rotating bezel in aluminium, sapphire crystal glass, and screw-in case-back. Assembled in Switzerland, it houses the Japanese Seiko VK64A meca-quartz calibre. The watch is water-resistant to 100 meters.
This timepiece can be booked during a 5-week pre-order campaign starting from July 27th to August 31st, 2023. The suggested retail price is 479 $. This being a limited edition, all orders will be honored and delivered in September and October.
