Seiko Watch Corporation expands its Seiko 5 Sports range by introducing new models that mark the 55th anniversary of this best-selling collection.
Introduced in 1968, Seiko 5 Sports series is known for durable and reliable mechanical watches. The collection was relaunched in 2019.
In 2023, Seiko 5 Sports celebrates its 55th anniversary with a new limited edition that re-creates the first watch from 1968, in addition to three other watches that pay homage to the designs and colors of the 1969 collection. Each of the four new watches houses the well-known automatic Caliber 4R36.
Seiko 5 Sports 55th Anniversary Limited Edition SRPK17K1
The first commemorative watch is a limited edition that re-creates the original Seiko 5 Sports watch. The recreation model (reference SRPK17) features a 39.5mm diameter case in stainless steel. This timepiece is limited to 15,555 pieces.
It has a black dial and a matching color bezel. The original Seiko 5 Sports logo is revived at the 12 o’clock position in honor of the 55th anniversary, and the word “SPORTS” appears at 6 o’clock. The hands and bar indexes are enhanced with Lumibrite for ensuring legibility in the dark.
The newly created bracelet features an upgraded, solid construction, yet it maintains the style of historic counterpart.
The limited edition Seiko 5 Sports Reference SRPK17 (SRPK17K1) comes in a special box that uses the same logo and color scheme as the original that accompanied the first Seiko 5 Sports watch. This model comes with a stainless steel case-back, featuring LIMITED EDITION text and number.
The Seiko 5 Sports 55th Anniversary Limited Edition Re-creation of the first 5 Sports watch will be available starting in July 2023 at the Seiko Boutiques and select retail partners worldwide. It retail price is Europe is €410.
Seiko 5 Sports SKX Sports Style: SRPK09K1, SRPK11K1 and SRPK13K1
In addition to the limited edition reference SRPK17, the brand is offering three watches in the SKX Sports Style (references SRPK09, SRPK11, SRPK13) that pay tribute to the 1969 Seiko 5 Sports collection.
The new special-edition watches evoke the color themes of three especially popular historical Seiko 5 Sports watches. They comes with a silver, black, or orange dial.
The black dial version has a bezel insert that closely follows the design of the one found on an original watch from the 1969 collection.
Water-proof to 100 meters, the legendary SKX case with iconic shape is fitted with crown protectors, curved Hardlex crystal, see-through screw case back, and a unidirectional rotating bezel. The case measures 42.5mm in diameter.
Each model comes on a three-link stainless steel bracelet. All three Seiko 5 Sports SKX Sports Style watches will be available at the Seiko Boutiques and select retail partners worldwide in September 2023.
