Rolex has upgraded its iconic Cosmograph Daytona family by introducing new generation chronographs equipped with the newly developed in-house self-winding movement, the Calibre 4131.
Rolex celebrates the launch of the new-generation Cosmograph Daytona with a number of versions is Platinum, Oystersteel, 18K Everose gold, 18K Yellow Gold and Yellow Rolesor (combination of Oystersteel and yellow gold).
Certified Superlative Chronometers, all models feature 40mm diameter cases with Oyster construction, with a waterproofness of 100 meters.
They also have characteristic details like screw-down case-back with fluted edges, triple locking crown, internal crown guard and scratch-proof sapphire crystal glass with AR coating. Depending upon the version, the tachymeter bezel comes in Cerachrom ceramic or metal.
The new Daytona boasts the emblematic three counter dial lay-out with centrally placed hour and minute hands, central chronograph seconds, 30 minute register at 3H, small seconds at 6H and 12H register at 9H.
The hour and minute hands employ the proprietary Chromalight luminous application that offers a long-lasting blue glow in the darkness. Depending upon the version, the dial hosts applied gold hour indexes with Chromalight or diamond-set hour markers.
In this new series, Rolex is also offering a number of 18K Everose gold and yellow gold models with the flexible Oysterflex strap.
Rolex Calibre 4131
The new Rolex Cal. 4131 is a brand-new self-winding chronograph movement. It is the most recent evolution of the iconic 4130 calibre. It comes with in-house innovations like Chronergy escapement, blue Parachrom hairspring, Rolex overcoil, and Paraflex shock absorbers. Powered by an oscillating weight with an optimized ball bearing system, it provides a power reserve of 72 hours.
The brand has also carried out some aesthetic refinements on the new calibre, such as cut-out oscillating weight and the exclusive Côtes de Genève decorations on the bridges. The special oscillating weight of the new platinum Daytona is made of 18K yellow gold where as other versions have standard rotors fitted with Cal. 4131.
Moreover, this movement offers chronograph function with a reduced number of components, thereby also enhancing the movement’s reliability. Its column wheel and vertical clutch system allows an instantaneous and extremely precise start. The special Côtes de Genève decoration applied on the movement bridges differs from the traditional Côtes de Genève by the addition of a slight polished groove between each band.
Rolex Cosmograph Daytona Platinum, Reference 126506
The leading model of the new Cosmograph Daytona series is the one with a platinum case and ice blue dial. This version also features a monobloc Cerachrom bezel in chestnut brown ceramic and Oyster style bracelet in 950 platinum.
A special attribute of the new platinum Daytona is the provision of sapphire crystal case-back, which allows the view of the new Calibre 4131 with a solid yellow gold bezel. Prior to this launch, the only Rolex watch to be supplied with an exhibition case-back was the Cellini Prince watch released in 2005.
The new Rolex Cosmograph Daytona Platinum comes with the highly admired ice blue dial with 18 ct white gold indexes with Chromalight (126506-0001) or diamond-set hour markers (126506-0002).

The brand has also released two Oystersteel versions of the new Cosmograph Daytona. The first one has a white lacquer dial (126500LN 0001) where as the second model comes with a black dial (126500LN 0002).
They have 18 ct white gold hour markers and hands. Both of them feature black ceramic Cerachrom bezel and Oyster type bracelet.
