In 2019, Grand Seiko introduced a new sports watch design inspired by the iconic Grand Seiko lion symbol. Now the brand presents a new Spring Drive Chronograph GMT watch with the same powerful design. This latest reference belongs to the Grand Seiko Sport Collection.
The lion symbol reflected the aim of the original Grand Seiko team to create the very best timepiece of which they were capable in terms of accuracy, durability and beauty.
The lion makes its presence felt on the new Grand Seiko Spring Drive watch in several ways. The strong and angular case has claw-like, hairline-finished lugs that stand out from the Zaratsu-polished elements.
GS Spring Drive Chronograph GMT Lion’s Mane Dial Version
The Grand Seiko Spring Drive Chronograph GMT (reference SBGC253) boasts an ivory-white textured pattern dial inspired by “lion’s mane”. The dark red accents on the dial allow the wearer to read the time at a glance. The hour and minute hands are designed for heightened legibility, and the wide indexes further enhance one’s ability to read the time immediately.
The hour and minute hands, as well as the hour markers, have green Lumibrite, while the bezel and GMT hand have blue, achieving enhanced legibility in dark conditions. A discreet indicator next to the eight o’clock marker displays the power reserve.
The case and bracelet are made of high-intensity titanium, which is about 30% lighter than stainless steel and brighter in color. The watch sits easily on the wrist, thanks to its curved lugs and low center of gravity.
The Spring Drive Chronograph GMT is water resistant up to 200 meters. The concave, textured chronograph buttons ensure better grip.
The timepiece is powered by the Spring Drive Chronograph GMT Caliber 9R86. Visible on the see-through case back, this movement delivers an accuracy of ±15 seconds per month and measures elapsed time up to 12 hours. The power reserve is 72 hours when fully wound.
The bracelet features thick, H-shaped links that wrap easily around any wrist size. It has a slide adjuster to enable perfect balance on the wrist.
The Grand Seiko SBGC253 Spring Drive Chronograph GMT watch will be available in March 2023 at the Grand Seiko Boutiques and select retail partners worldwide.
